What a wonderful coincidence! We practically stumbled in on the cold and were warmly welcomed, along with our dogs. Despite many reservations, we were given a spacious corner in the wine cellar... and the wine cellar is legendary! So, if you're lucky enough to find this place, you absolutely must go down to the wine cellar – it's beautiful and cozy. Our meals were wonderful, and with the wine, they were still very affordable. Thank you for the warm hospitality! Highly recommended!!

Simply delicious, friendly, wonderful

A very nice restaurant, a typical establishment with great service and a pleasant atmosphere. The price-performance ratio is also excellent. All the dishes were absolutely delicious. We even managed to get a good table on a Saturday at lunchtime, and it was very child-friendly! P.S.: also dog-friendly.

Excellent food, delicious wine, and a lovely, cozy atmosphere. A perfect five-star experience. The only thing that wasn't so great was my table, as a solo diner. It was quite close to the kitchen and therefore very noisy, but that didn't detract from the rest (for me) because the food was truly delicious!

Can you give more stars? - The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is stylish yet very cozy! A definite recommendation for the "Cocotte"! Update on October 8, 2025 Unfortunately, my initial enthusiasm has faded; the food now tastes only average (except for the steak on the hot stone, but you don't have to be a cook for that...)! What annoys me most: they no longer feel it necessary to thank me for a generous tip... Will I go back to the Cocotte anytime soon? I don't know!

Nice atmosphere and enjoyed everything we ate. The servers were friendly and helpful and the food and drinks didn’t take long. The curry was flavorful and had tons of veggies. The steak you cook on a hot plate yourself and we thought it might be kitschy but it tasted great and made dinner more fun. Loved the small desserts so you can try a few things. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and a nice mid-range price dinner.

A cozy little restaurant with an outdoor terrace in Gengenbach's old town. Tastefully decorated, with a great wine list and delicious starters and main courses. Great service, and we got a table even without a reservation.

If I could give negative stars, I would give it 3. Bad food and way too expensive. Half the price would still be too much.

We were walking around the town and this place caught my attention because of the location, the atmosphere and the dishes we saw. We ate here and the result was very satisfactory. Highly recommended for both the food and the service. If we ever return to Gengenbach we will stop by again.

For 28 euros, a mini veal schnitzel and some plain fries. No schnitzel at all, Wiener Art. Stupid of us, we didn't ask for the price beforehand, otherwise we would definitely have left. We thought it would be around 19 euros, but unfortunately, it ended up being 65 euros for 2 x schnitzel Wiener Art and two drinks. The dog water was a positive thing 👍

The food was very good, the service was too many tables for two people, and the service was inappropriate. It's a shame. Then they let dogs inside (large, barking dogs). For example, it's impossible to order a second round of drinks, like water. It was unpleasant. The service and the service spoiled a meal in a beautiful place with quality products.

The food was excellent, especially the meats, although the service is a bit lagging since they need more staff during peak hours, and the atmosphere is average since they allow dogs.

We expected a French-style brasserie. There wasn't much of that on the menu. It was good local fare, which tasted good, but the food was missing that certain something. We also waited quite a while for our main course, even though the restaurant was far from full capacity.

Starter was lovely, main course was of poor quality and dreadful presentation. However the worst aspect of the experience was the God awful service. Often left with no drinks and waiting 30 mins have order taken then similar wait for food to arrive. Avoid.

Great local wines by the glass. Sharing concept for starters is good. We had prawns, tabbouleh and bread shared those amongst the three of us and the tastes were a very good combination. Selection of entrees is also very good. Thai curry is absolutely recommended, good strong tastes and plenty of vegetables with the duck. Other plates were risotto and surf&turf. Risotto was good to taste, rice was well cooked. Salad was needed to add vegetables. Surf &turf is something we can very much recommend, excellent meat and it's served rare with a searing hotstone so you can prepare exactly the way you want. Combine that with very friendly, fast serving personnel and the near fairy tale looks gengenbach centrale square... it's a great place.

A cozy little restaurant with outdoor seating. A great, creative menu featuring traditional German cuisine, bowls, and seasonal dishes. The service was excellent, friendly, and always present. It was particularly noteworthy that, upon request, our 3-year-old granddaughter received her meal within 10 minutes before the rest of us. A very cozy atmosphere. We look forward to our next visit!

We always felt exceptionally well looked after and appreciated during our "outsourced" half-board package at the Hotel "Die Reichsstadt" (4-course dinner menu in the evening). A highly recommended restaurant in the heart of Gengenbach. You feel really comfortable in this beautiful half-timbered house. Here you will find a modern ambience in symbiosis with the old half-timbered architecture. The food is excellent. I had white asparagus with Wiener Schnitzel and a side salad. For dessert, espresso and chocolate tarts. The sauce is served foamed and creamy. The breading on the schnitzel was homemade and the asparagus was on point. The dressing on the side salad is a poem. The service was courteous, friendly and charming. The whole team is great. Having fun at work, you can tell that here. Keep it up 👍

Overall an average experience. If you come here for a drink, it is a great place. The staff is extremely friendly and fast. The place is central and it is nice sitting outside. The food is overpriced and the quality is average at best. On one meal they went too heavy on the salt and too light on the asparagus (3! pieces in an asparagus risotto is a joke). For the other meal the "Schnitzel" was dry and looked old. After pointing it out, I received a new one, which was juicy, crisp and generally okay. Not the best, not the worst. For the price I expect a whole different level of cuisine. In conclusion: come for a drink 🍷🍻 and leave for a meal 😉

The restaurant is located in the middle of the beautiful old town of Gengenbach. We were here at Easter and it is advisable to reserve on weekends or public holidays. It was interesting that you could roast your own meat on a hot stone. The food was very good in terms of taste and quality. The dishes are very traditional. But there are also curries and bowls. The furnishings are modern and rustic (Black Forest). All in all a successful restaurant.

Craziness! Pure eating pleasure. The idea of ​​the steak on the hot stone is great. The meat (rump steak from Urugay) was very good. The Poke Bowl left nothing to be desired. Anyone looking for home-style cooking will get their money's worth here. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not necessarily recommended for vegetarians/vegans. The bowl looked delicious - but was really tasteless, especially the pumpkin. The beetroot carpaccio lacked the kick/spice/some acidity. The couscous was quite average, you can actually prepare it more interestingly at home. The drinks, the service, the ambience were great.

When meat is roasted on the guests' hot stones, the atmosphere is unreasonable because of the cooking fumes.

It is a very stylish, nice, but higher priced restaurant, which is also justified. However, I find it strange that you don't get bread with a starter. For example, if you eat a goose liver, price 22€, and then have to pay extra for bread.

Lovingly and beautifully decorated restaurant! I went in with high expectations, as the map and the website also promised a lot. Starter was great, very nicely prepared and tasted great. I had the caramelized goat cheese. For the main course I had the meatballs with mashed potatoes. For my taste, the meatballs were not seasoned enough and there was too much bread in them. What struck me positively was that fresh parsley was used. The taste of the mashed potatoes was too boring for me and unfortunately it was already dried out by the thermal bridge at the top but cold in the middle. Despite the fact that the plate was preheated, the food was on average not really hot/warm! The strange manner of the waiter was also noticeable. When asked where the wine came from, he replied quite flippantly: "I don't know." When paying, the card machine was pushed without entering the amount first. After a questioning look they just said: "I didn't look at the bill, after all it's not mine." I think it could be done more professionally!

Cozy, clean place with a modern and classic feel at the same time. The waiters are super nice. On Sunday at 2pm only one table apart from us inside and two outside on the terrace were occupied. Very quiet. They offered a small menu but with enough options, I think 5 or 6 (meat, fish and vegetarian). We have eaten Maultaschen (delicious) and meat medallions with mushrooms and Spätzle (delicious). Well-made dishes, quality and a moderate quantity. With a beer and a limo €46 so no complaints. We recommend.

Went for dinner here and it was absolutely delightful. I got the dish which had a meatball, a potato with meat, and schnitzel with potato/cucumber salad on the side. It did NOT disappoint. It was absolutely delicious. The wine was excellent as well and the service was fabulous. Would 100% recommend for a nice dinner out in Gengenbach.
