Our first meal in Germany, and despite the reviews, it was phenomenal. We ordered schnitzel and bratwurst. The service was phenomenal, the entire staff was very friendly, and one of the waiters made several jokes that went down very well. The food? Out of this world. After visiting other places later, this place had the most delicious batter we've ever had. It wasn't just plain batter, it had flavor. The mix of spices gave it a unique touch. And the amount of food was generous! I will definitely return to this place, and if you have any doubts, for someone who likes to eat, go there! In total, with both dishes and a beer each, we spent about €35, and it's affordable!

We went with a reservation. When we arrived at the agreed time they seated us and after waiting for a while they told us that if we wanted to eat we would have to wait an hour and it's not like the place was full. It was easy to anticipate that they wouldn't be able to serve us at the time of the reservation.

We were looking for a typical place to eat in Gengenbach and found this one right below the tower. It's typical German... there are usually few people... it's run by an elderly German couple... you have to be very patient to order and be served at the table... Very dry, like all the others. The food is good value for money. We had the typical sausages and the equivalent of breaded steaks. We also tried a meat like venison, but the flavor was too strong.

We went because it was the most affordable place in Gegenbach, but we had to wait an hour and they barely gave us anything to eat, the food wasn't bad.

A very unusual place. They're open all day; we ate at 3 p.m. The waiters are older, but they try to understand you. They have a menu in Spanish. The food was very generous. Everything was good. Pictured are brackburst sausages, jagersnichel, and goulash with pasta. Recommended.

Highly recommended: We ate here with our family on the way back from our vacation. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, the size of the portions, and the price. A delicious cold glass of beer was also included, of course. The only caveat was that they didn't offer dessert. But the ice cream parlor 100 meters away more than provided us with that. All in all, we had a wonderful meal and drinks in this charming Gengenbach.

Very nice place and who served us

We went for lunch today and were very happy. The price-performance ratio was exceptional. The guy was super friendly and nice. He speaks some Spanish. The dining room was packed with Spaniards since it was almost 3:00 p.m. and we couldn't find any other places open at that time. My kids enjoyed it because there were board games and they got lollipops when they asked for the bill. If we're in the area again, we'll definitely come back.

We went to this restaurant for lunch following a recommendation we'd read, and it didn't disappoint—on the contrary. The food is homemade and traditional, very plentiful, very good, and reasonably priced. We were treated wonderfully. We went with my son, and the owner first offered him a game of 4-in-a-row to distract him, and at the end, he gave him three lollipops. A great touch from him. We were on the terrace, a very pleasant and quiet area. He also gave us information about the town and where to go for ice cream afterward. 100% recommended.

Best restaurant ever!!! We've been coming to Gengenbach for a few years now and always go to the Klosterstube. The food and drinks are absolutely fantastic. Typical Austrian place where you can eat exaggerated portions of chips and meat. Service a bit slow, prices super fair. I recommend it if you pass by these parts.

Absolutely subterranean, the outdoor area (the term beer garden would be too presumptuous) is cheaply stubbled together, dingy, the tables were not wiped down, the service was tough and listless, neighboring tables waited half an hour for their bill, we waited almost as long for our drink request. The menu was cheapest in cling film, our food order still wasn't there after 30 minutes, nor was the service, everything smelled of cigarette smoke, full ashtrays. Feelings of disgust. The interior also smells awfully of cold cigarette smoke. At some point we got up, there was no service in sight, I called for someone inside, nothing happened. And we were gone.

Our food was okay, but overall the visit to the restaurant was not convincing. The service in particular left a lot to be desired: the waiter smelled noticeably of alcohol and was talkative, but things became unpleasant when he put his hand on my shoulder without being asked. The atmosphere wasn't right either - the smell of the neighboring pub wafted into the restaurant, which made the stay unpleasant. Lo primero que me llamó la atención fue que tiene zona perfectamente separada de fumadores y no fumadores. El local es muy antiguo y acogedor, permite mascotas, hay juegos de mesa y dardos para prolongar la estancia y hacerlo más acogedor incluso. En cuanto a la comida es abundante y muy bien elaborada. Y el encargado es un señor muy amable y atento con muy buenos detalles y consejos sobre la zona. Si vuelvo por allí, repetiré.

Place with the charm of German inns where it is easy to travel back to the Middle Ages accompanied by its typical decoration and cozy atmosphere. You can taste typical dishes such as Goulass and many others where quantity and quality predominate. Furthermore, the manager is a magnificent professional who tries to understand everyone and treat them extremely well. We will return.

Absolutely recommended - we were there yesterday "unfortunately just for a beer" with a child and 2 dogs and were so pleased with the charming and friendly host - someone who loves his job and you can feel it! A somewhat peculiar place. On the route through the black forest we find Gengenbach. We decided to stop here because we didn't have much time or many options. It is a typical German village place. The quantity-price is excessive, food in abundance. The quality is fine. The service was good, the waiter was friendly and tried to understand Spanish with us. There is a menu available in Spanish. They do NOT have desserts. The place is cozy, the only thing that is a little shocking are the slot machines that are in the dining room itself. The site is recommended if you have to stop to visit the town.

Wer lieber gutes Essen mag, statt eine Luxus Gastro Deko, der ist hier genau richtig Die Portionen sind so gewaltig, daß kaum einer sie schafft. Und der Koch hat mindestens einen Stern verdient. Kaum zu glauben, daß da auch noch alles super günstig ist.

You have to come by here when you come visit Gengenbach. We stopped by around noon and decided to check out Klosterstube. The host was so warm and welcoming! He was extremely kind to our little ones and handed out pamphlets on what to do and what to see for both here and the surrounding areas. The food was delicious and affordable especially for the large portions that were served. The menu was in 3 different languages and easy to understand. There is two separate areas for the restaurant 1 smoking and 1 non smoking. A great place to eat and recharge for the day.

The site is well located if you make a stop in Gengenbach. We went to eat late and both the food and the service have been great. As a curiosity, they have a smoking and non-smoking room. If we return we would repeat without hesitation.

Food was very greasy & not very tasteful. Strong smell of smoke even though the restaurant is supposed to be smoke-free. We were unsure whether we were in the right place, it seems like a local community space with lots of light and little atmosphere. Large portions and friendly service, but that's about it.
