Chuan House in Berlin

The food is really good. I had just a few starter today but will come back for more! Had some wan tan, dumplings, and dim sum. For real origin spiced food, this is a good place to go. If it says spicy at this place, it means Asian typ of spicy (dragon dance on your tongue) not european ahh a bit of spicy is OK I can stand it. The host was quite busy, but still in a good mood and was able to read my mind to have another coke before I was able to order one 😀 Will come back soon, for sure!

Just disappointed. We were there for dinner on July 27th, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. Due to the very good reviews. Since we spend a lot of time in Asia, we can get a very good idea of ​​the food, service and ambience. The boss of the whole thing badmouths his employees in front of the guests, so loudly that everyone can hear it. His words, I'm understaffed, the chef is alone and overwhelmed. You cannot have dessert, otherwise other guests will have to wait for their food. The staff, dressed inappropriately, ripped pants etc. Staff are already clearing the tables, even though you haven't finished eating and drinking yet. The presentation of the food is good, but that's about it. The taste cannot be compared at all to the food in Asia. Every food stall in Asia makes the food taste better. We can no longer process the positive reviews.

Authentic Chinese food, fresh, freshly prepared and very tasty! The meat melts in your mouth because it's so tender, regardless of the meat (we ordered chicken, beef and duck, all delicious!) The owner (?) is very attentive and friendly! Always worried if we needed something, he gave us a delicious drink to try and recommended the best dishes in the house. We will definitely be back! Definitely the best Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten in, the food is of an amazing quality and the service is spectacular, the manager is very kind, very helpful and uniquely skilled. He was so disappointed that we had to wait half an hour that he offered us a glass of wine, which was also of a very high quality. If you are in Berlin I absolutely recommend going there, it is not just a meal but an experience. But make sure you book in advance.

A nice evening. Ordering in advance would be good but we also managed to get a table at short notice. The food is simply great 👍 The special nightcap with a guessing game is also recommended. But not all guests get it 😁

They don't make it easy here. The fact that the place has two names: Chuan House and Wei House is stupid. Nothing works here without a reservation. There are no wine bottles either. Instead, only 0.2 liter glasses were poured - but unfortunately the pouring was poor, so we had to complain. The cuisine is OK, but my Szechuan beef is a very oily affair. We've been to China many times and things taste a little different there. But the portions are fair, the guests are full and don't necessarily need an appetizer. But with some wine and a shared starter and two main courses without tea or desserts, we ended up with 95 EUR - not exactly cheap.

WOW! What a hidden gem in Alexanderplatz. I have found Chinese/Asian style restaurants to be very hit and miss across Europe. But this is so FRESH, you won’t mind the wait for the courses! Even though there was a language barrier, I politely wrote down on my phone my order and they were happy to use this! Definitely a revisit next time I’m in Berlin. The prices cannot be missed aswell!

I am very sick and unfortunately sometimes I cannot control my bladder. I didn't choose it myself. I begged the gray-haired, half-bald old man to be allowed to go to the toilet but he said no. When I continued to beg and made him aware of my illness, he grabbed my arm, screamed at me and threw me out. where I then peed my pants in front of the door. How can you be so inhumane! This is bodily harm, the whole thing was recorded on video and will be reported!

The restaurant is a total work of art. The interior looks a bit like 8 delicacies, but gentlemen, the food is at the top of the premium league that Berlin has to offer when it comes to Asian cuisine. The eggplant is out of this world - the owner is incredibly friendly and is so happy when his guests enjoy the food. His cooking is good - his chef mixes the most important things himself and makes really great Sichuan food. Do not miss!

Update: Went back today again, 2 months after the last time. And the owner just got more rude. How he treat his customer, being so agitated all the time. The worse is how he treats the other waitress, how he called her “useless”. No more, not worth it Amazing food as usual, although the service can improve a bit. I understood it was a busy night but must admit it felt at some point uncomfortable with the waiter being agitated. I’ve been here before and the atmosphere was great but also it was not as crowded.

There are strict rules that were explained to us right away. There is no possibility of making a dish less spicy, for example, no change of any kind. When we then asked for soy sauce, which is not available, the waitress was personally offended. You don't feel like constantly arguing with the chef, but we were complained about all the time. It became very rude and the waitresses stood together and complained about us so loudly that we heard it. One meal was too spicy and one meal just didn't taste good. Overall, very unprofessional behavior, we will not visit the store again.

We went there twice for dinner during our Berlin vacation. Both times we were impressed not only by the delicious, authentic Chinese cuisine, but also by the very warm service! The caramelized eggplant in particular is highly recommended (even for die-hard meat eaters)!

When we came into the restaurant we were greeted warmly and even though we didn't have a reservation we were immediately assigned a table. The food was delicious and quite plentiful. We didn't have to wait long for our food either. We liked it and would like to come back.

Went there because we live nearby but never tried it before. We didn't expect much from a supposed 'standard Chinese restaurant', but we were pleasantly surprised by the cuisine (selection and quality). The interior looks like 'all' Chinese restaurants looked like when I was a child in the last millennium ;-) That's why we hesitated to give it a try... Don't be fooled, the selection isn't too big but it's very fine. The numerous starters (cold and warm) are very unusual, very different and well prepared. The quality of the supposedly standard dishes is also very good. You can taste the fresh preparation with high-quality ingredients. I can only recommend it if someone is in the mood for 'traditional Chinese cuisine' from different regions in China... The only thing that I personally didn't like was the beer selection, but that doesn't result in any deductions in my rating because it's my taste and not necessarily yours... Be curious and have fun

RUDE. UNPROFESSIONAL. CALL THEIR GUESTS JERKS. The owners - the husband and the wife, were very rude. It all started from the first order of drinks and continued till payment. Just to new a few incidents, they had desserts with ice cream that didn't have "F" for milk allergy. We assumed that they have lactose-free ice cream, but decided to double check. The waitress, who was also the owner of the place, or at least there was only a husband and a wife, who were serving the guests, very rudely replied that of course, ice cream contains lactose! We tried not to pay attention to the multiple rude comments, the unfriendly expression on their face. However, when it was time to pay, the waiter/owner told us that one of us pays him, and then we divide the amount between us. When we told him that each couple will pay for themselves (6 people, so 3 payments), he didn't agree and said it was very complicated to him. His machine cannot accept such payments. In the end, having a long conversation, he agreed to accept our separate payments. All went on with more comments, as we stood their, waiting for our turn to pay. One of our friends told the waiter/owner that our experience was not the best, as during the whole period the waitress was quite arrogant to us. The waiter literally called one of our friends a jerk. DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE.

Ok, the food was really good but the service wasn't good at all. The waitress was rude when asked about the allergens of the desserts. We asked to split the bill and the man was being extremely rude and even insulted my friend. Splitting the bill was pretty easy when we went up to the register and should be a common practice when we were all paying with a card. I did enjoy the food and the decorations of the restaurant but felt uncomfortable due to the service.

Very authentic Chinese restaurant. The owner explains right at the beginning that spicy is really spicy. Medium-spicy was a bit too spicy for me. I actually only eat dishes with meat, but I can really recommend the Aubergine V21. She calms the numb tongue... The owner is a number in himself but I think he's great. I would definitely eat here again even if the prices are slightly more expensive than usual.

Worst service!! I was eating there with my friends, the owner simply kicked us out of the shop and said in a very frustrated and rude manner that we had blocked the table and that he would have lost money for other customers. I've never had anything so unprofessional!! This is not how you treat your customers. We also left enough money!! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant even to my worst enemy. Compared to other restaurants in Berlin where the competition is high anyway, this one wouldn't even be able to keep up

We had a great time at Chuan house. We went here for dinner and the food was top notch! The host made sure we were comfortable and attended to us with great care. As a vegetarian I had many options and decided to try the Yüxiang fried eggplant and the Mapo tofu. Both the dishes were delicious. We will definitely be going back here again!

It is a nice and cozy restaurant. I would recommend this place for a date as well as for a dinner with friends. The staff were really kind and they made sure everything was perfect. The portions are meant to be shared and the food isn't overpriced. You definitely feel that is it fresh made and that's why they serve each dish separately.

Delicious and flavoured Chinese dishes. The place is nicely decorated, Chinese style, and it has a good selection of meals. We got the R2 and H2, they were both extremely tasty. We also tried the eggplants under the vegetarian dishes, which was good but not as good as the other main courses. The place is now on my shortlist of Chinese restaurants in Berlin. I'll surely visit soon this fine restaurant again. A clear recommendation from my side!

Really happy to discover Chuan House (which is in the process of rebranding as Wei House). The area around Platz der Vereinten Nationen is a bit of a food desert, so it's great to have this there, and Friedrichshain generally has been lacking in Chinese options so this is very welcome. It's authentic Chinese style dining, so dishes are intended for sharing and come out of the kitchen as soon as they are ready, not all together. You can tell from the decor of the restaurant (all imported from China) and the plating of the food that the owner/chef cares and pays attention to detail, and this extends to the flavours of the food which is delicious. There are dishes from various provinces of China. If you're not familiar with Sichuan food you should try these; the mapo tofu is a good place to start, and comes here in both meat and vegetarian versions. In general there are plenty of tasty veggie options on the menu. Service, from the owner's husband, was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Gutes Essen zu fairen Preisen. Von außen recht unscheinbar, überrascht das Restaurant mit sehr gutem Essen. Waren zu Dritt dort, hatten jeder Vorspeise, Hauptspeise, Nachspeise und mehrere Getränke und haben in Summe 150 € gezahlt. Sogar Kartenzahlung ist möglich, was uns auch positiv überrascht hat. Gerne wieder.

Super Essen-freundlicher Wirt und Servicekraft GERNE WIEDER

We had cravings for "good" Chinese and tried this restaurant by chance. We ordered 5 appetisers and Mapotofu, quite frankly we enjoyed every dish! I feel like everything tasted very authentic. Now we just went for a second visit after about two weeks and it's safe to say that we are addicted to their Mapotofu. And again, we ordered 5 appetisers and we liked everyone! We are very happy to discover this restaurant since a good Chinese restaurant is quite rare in this neighborhood. (Most of them are Thai fusion, millennials wanna be dumpling shacks or cheap looking not so cozy, tiny places) Also, for fine dining with good service, this place is very affordable. Last but definitely not least, I really appreciate this restaurant is super clean! The toilets are spacious and well lit which means they are "not" lazy keeping the toilets clean. Where I come from this is a first thumb rule but here I rarely see it. We will definitely be coming again!!

Nachdem die Qualität vieler anderer authentisch-chinesischer Restaurants stetig abnimmt wird dies wohl unser Lieblingsrestaurant. Nett fanden wir auch, dass das Dekor an die chinesischen Restaurants von früher erinnert. große Empfehlung!
