Cafe Restaurant Pizzeria Wanninger in Oberammergau

Our second visit to Cafe Wanninger in Oberammergau once again impressed us. The food, drinks, coffee, and cakes are all of excellent quality. The new owners know their craft; guests feel very well served and their satisfaction shows. We wish the Gkakavouzi family continued success and many guests who will gladly return.

I recommend this pizzeria, confectionery where the service and dishes are delicious. We were greeted by friendly, dedicated people. We served two evenings in a row and I can tell you that we ate the best cheesecake with lemon-flavored cheese with a very fine cream, Strudel with apples and whipped cream and the second evening spaghetti carbonara and Bolognese and for home I received the best pizza with a very fluffy and fine crust baked in a wood-fired oven as I haven't eaten in a long time. The best choice for dining on this vacation and we will definitely go again where the staff welcomes you warmly with exceptional service and the food is the best

The restaurant has had new owners since August 2025, and it's completely transformed! The new owners are a very nice, friendly, and professional Greek-Bulgarian family😎 The food tastes excellent, prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The homemade Greek dishes, such as moussaka, are especially recommended 😋, but everything else tastes really good too! The ambiance is very nice, and it's very clean and cozy. Highly recommended! Cafe Restaurant Pizzeria Wanninger is an absolute gem! The owner, the Vasilis, is exceptionally kind, warm, and and welcoming - he truly makes every guest feel special. He personally prepares the meat using his own special recipe, and creating amazing burgers and other meat dishes that are full of flavor. The food is incredibly tasty, the atmosphere cozy, friendly and inviting, and overall ambience is beautiful and charming. Every moment we spent here was a delight, and we can't wait to come back!

We opted for the classic salami pizza and the BBQ burger and were not disappointed. We absolutely loved the food. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and the ambiance and furnishings were comfortable and harmonious, making the visit a complete success. Bravo!

I have to say, I'm truly appalled. From the food to the service, it was a disaster. The schnitzel and pizza were inedible, and we felt very harassed by the service.

We were treated to truly friendly service and excellent food today. The pizza was a nice size and very tasty. My daughter had spaghetti Bolognese, which was also delicious. They also served fries with feta cheese (never tried it before, so I had to try it ;-) ) which was also very tasty. My daughter and my wife also enjoyed the halloumi burger... but above all, we noticed the friendly atmosphere and very, very friendly service, and everything tastes even better ;-) New owner and decor, we'll be back next year and look forward to being guests here. Stay the way you are!!!

We ate at Wanninger last night. The restaurant reopened yesterday, August 12, 2025, after renovations under new ownership. The pizza and spaghetti Napoli were very good. The cakes in the refrigerator all looked delicious, and on top were specialty tarts from Greece. I tried one and it was delicious; I can only recommend it. The service and the chef were very friendly and accommodating; a very good restaurant in the heart of Oberammergau. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

The worst place we ever visited!!!! We wanted to eat but after the cashier, a young employee of Balkan nationality, told us to leave after we tried to ask again if we could eat at this place...He told us this quietly so that visitors of German nationality would not hear anything. Shame on such an institution where racists work!!! We would not leave a cent in this place and we found a better one where we told our story of worst experience!!!!

Not best or greatest in Ogau, but value for money and almost always open for business.

No, the chef doesn't know his craft. The potatoes were tough. The meat was bone dry, as was the fish. A lot of salt was used. The soufflé probably came from a packet.

Unfortunately I didn't like the pizza, the cheese seemed to come out of the bag grated (and tasted accordingly) and the sauce tasted quite sweet, as if it had been "seasoned" with sugar. I would have liked better quality ingredients here. I was satisfied with the service.

A small restaurant-cafe in the city center without any special pretensions. You can have a nice lunch with friends or family, which may take at least an hour). The waiters are attentive and friendly. There is draft beer and decent pizza.

We wanted to treat ourselves to a nice piece of cake/tart on Sunday, unfortunately the selection and quality of cakes and cakes is only average, although the restaurant/cafe was well filled (probably due to a lack of alternatives).

Eine große Auswahl an selbstgemachten Torten und Kuchen. Die Schoko-Marzipan Torte sehr zum empfehlen. Allerdings wäre es gut einen Tisch zu reservieren da es Nachmittags sehr voll im Café werden kann.

The place is very beautiful. I didn't really like the service because it wasn't always present and attentive. We had to call him a few times. The wet slice didn't excite me like the overly thin McDonald's style fries..

Nice lunch spot. Was uncrowded (off season). For a change we ordered the chicken schnitzel and were very pleased with it. Large portions and nicely breaded and fried.

Decent spot to spot for a to-go cup of coffee. Did not try the food but their cake was decent. Tiramisu was not impressive

Our private guide brought us here for a quick bite to eat after Neuschwanstein & Linderhof. When we arrived about 16.00 the place was rammed. We ordered Radlers and pizza finished off with gelato. All of it was delicious. We found the service efficient and did not wait that long. We sat outside and were able to enjoy the view of beautifully decorated houses and shops too. Would def go again.

We had a fine lunch when we visited Oberammergau. The staff was friendly, the menu had nice choices, and it was a perfect spot as we strolled around town.

We were a party of five that stopped in for a quick lunch while shopping in the area and so glad that we did. We all got different dishes and were all pleased with what we got. I got the wiener schnitzel and it was really good. My husband go the pizza and really liked it as well. The service was great and our server was very nice and helpful. He spoke enough English that we were able to get by. We sat on the sidewalk and enjoyed the wonderful weather and watched the people as they went about their day. We were there in July 2024. The prices were good for what you get. Would recommend and will be back when we are in the area.

We went to dinner today. The seating and menus have seen their best days a long time ago. The pizza was okay (a little dry). However, the side salad wasn't good. Hardly any taste, the salad was partly brown and mushy. A pity.

We arrived as a group of 12 and were directed to the tables outside that we requested. The drinks and food orders were taken promptly and all items came in good time and were correct. We had a mixture of pizzas and pastas; the pizzas were particularly good with a thin, crisp base, and an acceptable amount of toppings. We got caught in a heavy rain shower, and so were directed inside to a large table to finish up our meal. The service was great. We would certainly come back.

We would receive a friendly welcome. The food is overall ok. The pizza was tasty, but not outstanding. The halloumi burger seemed a bit bland.

We had pizza here for lunch. It was one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. The base was airy and crispy, just as you would expect from a good stone oven pizza. The service was very quick and the food came quickly. If we are in Oberammergau again we will definitely eat here again.

Despite the low rating, we spontaneously decided to have lunch here. The restaurant and furniture don't look inviting. The restaurant is very quiet. The staff was friendly. We chose Halloumi Burger and Pizza Margherita. Pizza Margherita was good, unfortunately we didn't like the Halloumi Burger. The Halloumi Burger consisted of small burger buns with a leaf of lettuce, two slices of cucumber, two slices of tomatoes, a dollop of sauce and a thick slice of Halloumi cheese. In addition, there was a lot more fries on one plate than on other plates. I don't think the price of this burger is justified. We paid €10.90 for this burger without a side dish, plus fries as a side dish for €4. For this price you can get much more delicious food elsewhere.

Acqua panna good stuff, friendly personal, helles vom fass very good. Since my stomach is very sick i just got a sidesalad. My Dad got wienerschnitzel with fries. i love the schnitzel, and the side salad and the fries. everything is so good. the staff super friendly. I say the schnitzel tastes like fish. My Dad's knife doesnt cut. the schnitzel was very thick and they threw the fries underneath it. cant cut the schnitzel without destroying the fries

Bruschetta didn't taste like anything! Service was very nice! Pizza too dry and hardly any sauce! For our grandson the plain noodles, a complete rip-off almost 10 euros😡Not recommended!

Condition is nice, but someone else will collect the money. The prices are far too expensive and the pizza is inedible with far too little tomato sauce. Bruschetta was far too expensive, only four small baguettes and that too without garlic. Pasta for small children is far too expensive 8.90 for plain pasta . Not recommended.

NEVER AGAIN!! rip off We went there as a family to eat and don't even need to start with the absolutely bad dry pizza. But the icing on the cake was that we ordered pasta without anything for our 10 month old baby and dripping oily pasta arrived. We let them go back and got basically the same thing again. We just accepted it but ended up charging €8.90 for it, which is something I've never experienced before. There is a restaurant around the corner where you can get it. 3.60€ a children's portion of fresh spaetzle with sauce. After we confronted the boss, only words came back. Never again.

This restaurant is definitely underrated. The homemade pizza is delicious and their German dishes are also delicious with their own improvements, thus, not so authentic.

Nice staff, delicious food. What you should perhaps serve with the cheese spaetzle would be fried onions instead of fried onions. We'd love to come back.

Waiter was knowledgeable and helpful for me which if important when traveling. I have celiac and must eat gluten free. I had salmon, potatoes and salad. It’s never a guarantee in small towns so it was lovely!
