We were visiting this beautiful town and found this place by chance. We ate in the garden, pleasant atmosphere. The food was good. We ordered typical pork with potatoes and a burger with pulled pork. We found the prices consistent with the quality. The service was correct, but in Europe we are not used to having tips suggested.

We ate excellently, especially the strudel, one of the best ever. A beautiful storm was raging outside and we were enjoying our hot and tasty dishes. We also wanted to go back for the last evening of the holidays, but we weren't able to and so we are left with the desire and desire to return to Oberammergau!

If there had been 10 stars we would have given them, beautiful place found by chance after visiting Linderhof Castle. Excellent and plentiful quality of food accompanied by excellent beer, various quality dishes also for vegetarians, kind and knowledgeable staff who speak several languages, last but not least an excellent espresso, bill in line with the quality received. Absolutely recommended.

After our second visit to this wonderful place, there are only positive things to report. The location in the quiet village is wonderful for unwinding. The house-brewed Kellerbier is fantastic. I've tried many different ones and only a few are as tasty and fruity. The dishes (baked knuckle with pepper sauce, sauerkraut and dumplings / pulled pork burger / Bavarian cream with raspberry sorbet and local fruits) were really at a top level. The service is always there when you need it and not too present that it could become annoying. You are warmly welcomed and can also chat briefly about regional dishes if it is not too crowded. To the ambience. The beer garden is manageable, but offers plenty of seating, but you can still always be on your own. The interior is open to the outside and is very inviting. Very clean, pleasantly lit and the brewing kettles right next to the entrance make a great impression. The facade is an absolute dream and you can hardly walk past without at least taking a look. I can't say anything about the hotel or the sanitary facilities, but I would be very surprised if they weren't perfect. Absolute recommendation from me! As a North Rhine-Westphalia resident, I only know such levels at significantly higher prices.

Waren heute spontan zum Mittagessen dort. Wir haben sofort einen schönen kleinen Tisch für 2 Personen zugewiesen bekommen. Das Essen war mega lecker. Die besten Käsespätzle seit langem. Zum Nachtisch haben wir uns den Kaiserschmarren gegönnt, der wirklich was Besonderes ist und einfach nur göttlich geschmeckt hat. Der Service war super nett und zuvorkommend. Ich kann die schlechten Kritiken nicht nachvollziehen- wir kommen in jedem Fall wieder.

The knuckle was very tasty but very fatty, hence 4 out of 5, ambience and service 5 out of 5! Prices... well, knuckle 22,- is OK, but schnitzel over 30,-... well... we would come back!

The two of us were there on August 14, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. and had the following: 1. Ettaler mountain cheese spaetzle fried onions / gardener's salad => It was good and the salad with dressing was very fresh 2. Crispy baked “Maxbräu” pepper knuckle pepper cream sauce / sauerkraut / potato dumplings => The knuckle was crispy but had a very bland taste and the pepper sauce had nothing to do with a room sauce. The potato dumplings are the cheapest wholesaler quality Summary of the knuckle: unimaginative, tasteless, poor in taste, neutral in taste, sober, stale, unsalted, unseasoned... Grade 5- In comparison...here in Franconia I get a beer knuckle with dumpling and sauerkraut for 17 euros and eating it puts me in a really good mood! 3. Kellerbier naturally cloudy... phew, I had imagined a darker beer and not a light, fruity-tasting cloudy beer with a bitter finish. Kellerbier actually impresses with its unmistakable amber-like color. Brewed particularly originally, the naturally cloudy cellar beer is mild and balanced in taste. Anyone who has ever been to Franconia and the greater Bamberg area knows what a Kellerbier should be like... Service was very friendly. ... the atmosphere of the rooms is great. The reservation was time-consuming because the answering machine kept going off. Finally, I have to say that it was difficult to find the entrance to the restaurant next to the hotel. It wasn't clearly visible. I then asked the receptionist at the hotel. The young woman gave the impression that she didn't know exactly where the entrance was either. Unfortunately, she didn't describe the route clearly, which was also wrong. It wasn't until we were halfway around the hotel that an employee who was taking a break spotted us. He accompanied us to the correct entrance. He knows what service means, unfortunately the woman at the reception doesn't...I spoke to her about the poor service immediately after the meal and explained to her clearly what I thought of her directions/service and what I actually expect as a customer! Once you can enjoy the food and the beer... the man/woman will be full... but nothing more.

Nice posh hotel with a restaurant in Bavaria atmosphere, waitresses wear traditional Bavarian clothes.since we arrived we were served within 10 minutes,we just asked for traditional bavaria food and home made beer.Food was a little bit fat...but tasty. Service was very quick and the waitress was very helpful and spoke very well English.

If you REALLY want to eat good traditional Bavarian cuisine, this is the place to come!

Rustic and pretty much exactly what you imagine in Bavaria if you want rustic food. Staff with a broad range of Bavarian and Bavarian language are friendly and quick. Crusty roast was quite dry, too dry. Dumplings and sauce are a dream, burgers too. Unfortunately, there were leftovers of food lying around our table for no apparent reason and were not disposed of

In my opinion, the male waitress with the white glasses deliberately entered €10 too much into the EC card machine. After I pointed him out, he acted completely surprised. But he knew immediately what I was talking about. We probably didn't generate enough sales because of our table water and vegetarian dishes. That doesn't work at all! ;) The food was ok…

Malgré un a priori favorable, nous n'avons pas pu apprécier le repas car notre table en terrasse a été envahie par les guêpes dans l'indifférence totale d'un serveur particulièrement hostile et agressif. A notre demande de changer de table, il a répondu qu'il faut aller diner ailleurs en nous intimant de payer vite et de libérer les lieux. Ce comportement est indigne d'un restaurant de ce standing.

The best schnitzel in the whole Werdenfelserland

Not good service!!! We hadn't made a reservation and were therefore probably not even noticed by the service staff. After 20 minutes of waiting without any interest from the waiters, we sat down at an unreserved table in the beer garden. After another 20 minutes, of course, no waiter came and when we asked, we were treated so unfriendly by Kellern with a bracelet on his arm and white hair because we sat down at a table without asking. The tone was anything but appropriate. We were then moved from one seat to another and informed that it could take up to an hour until we were served because everything was full (the beer garden was 20% full). The aggression and the tone of voice have no place in gastronomy.

Nice to enjoy the food outside. Good selection of dishes. The food was good, many people really enjoyed it. But the burger was not recommended. Staff nice. Gladly again next time

We ate there twice during our vacation. The vegetarian dishes (large salad plate and cheese spaetzle) were very good The breaded pork knuckle was good, the crusty roast was very good. The shandy was also very, very tasty. The service was very friendly and responded to additional requests without any problems. You can always go back there!

There were five of us there, but only one wanted a beer, so we ordered that, a short time later another waiter came and said five people who were "blocking" the table couldn't order a beer and we had to leave. Over half of the tables were unoccupied, so we felt completely ripped off. In other words, service is non-existent.

Sehr gute Schweinshaxe, Panade ungewürzt vermutlich ein gut und günstig Produkt, Pfeffersauce aus dem Beutel. Knödel ebenfalls ein Fertigprodukt. Guter Wein. 2 dl kosten auf der Karte 9.40 Euro, macht für die 0,75 l Flasche 42 Euro. Leider nicht ganz korrekt, wenigstens mathematisch.

Nice service and nice atmosphere. The table we sat at was a bit small for two people. The food tasted good and the size of the portions was particularly good and actually filled you up. After the special kind of Kaiserschmarrn we were fuller than we had been for a long time. The Kaiserschmarrn can almost be served as a main course by two people.

Excellent, mouth-watering Bavarian cuisine

Wir waren am 13.07.24 hier zu Zweit mit unserem Hund essen. Wenn man einen Tag vorher reserviert und man nicht in 20 Minuten abgespeist werden will, dann ist man hier exakt richtig. Tolles Ambiente, sehr gutes Entrecote und Pfefferhaxe, die Bedienung super auf Zack, anständige Hunde sind hier auch sehr willkommen. Wir waren rundum zufrieden. Vielen Dank dafür an das Team Tipp: Der Kaiserschmarrn als Nachtisch ist für mindestens 3-4 Personen, die Portion war Monströs. Als Hauptspeise passt er für 2 Personen perfekt.

A must visit for Oberammergau: Best beer in town and decent food, which is classically Bavarian. You do have to pay a little more for this than some of towns restaurants - but worth it). Service really friendly but it is always busy. Worth booking in advance if a bigger group.

Rustically furnished hotel restaurant in brewery style. We immediately felt at home. The food wasn't exactly cheap, but it tasted great. I've never eaten Kaiserschmarrn like this before! The two home-brewed beers were tasty and quite different in character. Service was friendly, but sometimes felt a bit overwhelmed when the hut was full.

Absolute insider tip, Real Bavarian cuisine, good cellar beer. Prices are also great. I will definitely plan a break here again the next time I visit the area. P.s. Hotel staff also very welcoming, In case of heavy rain we were able to rent umbrellas.

The baked pork shank was good and also the apple strudel. However 37 € is too high for this meal and the service was slow.

Really tasty, regional food, good beer, would return. However, it was, probably too busy evening, but the service level was poor - while they acted nice, they were short of team to provide service in time and quality. Food came late, not together.

My family and I wanted to have a little something to eat outside in the beer garden at Ammergauer Maxbräu on Sunday evening. The beer garden was very manageable and not all tables were occupied. Several waiters walked past our table. We were neither greeted nor given a menu at all. After 15 minutes we got up and left again.

they dont have great beer. their Weißbeer smells like feet and tastes like wheat. their lemon limonade is very sweet, i preper something real. the beers are not great but the food is very delicious I cane here with my Dad and we got news that our Zebra Finch layd an egg. We dont like the crunchy things on the mango ice cream. why give an ice cream that has nothing to do with the creme brullee. it wouldve been better with vanilla. plus the sun was blinding us. overpriced for one person. schnitzel 40 euro

The best food, beer and coffee we have had in Bavaria. The Kaiserschwarrn is to die for. Coffee made with fresh milk not preserved UHT milk.

This is what a brewery with a restaurant should look like. Beautiful wood paneling, brewing kettle right at the entrance. Very nice service. We had the pork roast and loved it. Tasty and plentiful. The naturally cloudy cellar beer had aromas of banana and mango. Finally, a herbal schnapps.

Great Bavarian casual atmosphere, and very good food. Yes, it took a while when there was a lot going on. It doesn't matter, there's a good atmosphere and everyone is understanding. We recommend roast pork, the knuckle is breaded here: it's good and very tender, but probably not for everyone. But the beer 10/10. The Radler is particularly refreshing in summer.

Dear Ammergauer Maxbräu team and Hotel Maximilian team, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your great work! We decided at rather short notice that we would look for a location for our daughter's blessing ceremony where we would feel comfortable even in bad weather and still be able to celebrate outside when the weather was nice. The fact that Sandra, as fairy godmother and interface between the restaurant and the hotel, responded to our request so quickly and openly (for a rather unusual event) was a surprise and a real stroke of luck for us. Sandra immediately took into account our ideas and also discussed them with the kitchen (excellent cabbage donuts were conjured up especially for us as a vegetarian alternative to roast pork with dumplings). For dessert there was a really large portion of really freshly cut fruit salad. The prices were very fair and we were never surprised with any unforeseen costs. On the contrary, the tables were set and set with white tablecloths and subtle fresh floral decorations inside for lunch and outside in the beer garden, which we were able to use in the morning. With around 30 guests and 10 children, we had more than enough space in the front part to organize a small ceremony under the blossoming chestnuts and to relax our souls with music (an Irish folk group was allowed to play during the morning) and a view of Laber and Kofel allow. In addition, it was not an issue to set up a small craft and painting station and the children were also allowed to drive on bobby cars in the forecourt to the hotel entrance and finally the adults could also dance. The proximity to the playground was simply brilliant at the end of the event! We also felt more than comfortable with the service in the restaurant! The waitresses and waiters thought for themselves and were friendly at all times, including towards the very little ones.

I can only recommend it to everyone. Great food, really great service. We sat in the beer garden until the end...it was just great.

We wanted to celebrate a family celebration at Maxbräu. Request almost 2 months in advance. Staff was very friendly and accepted the reservation. 1 week later the chef was supposed to report to discuss the menu. That didn't happen. When we asked, we were informed that it was not yet certain whether it would be open at all in April. The very friendly receptionist wanted to contact management and let us know within a week whether it worked. When we asked again after 2 weeks, we were told that she couldn't reach management. Another day later she had to cancel us as a precaution because she still had no information from her management. We had to quickly come up with a plan B, only to later find out that the restaurant was open on the desired date. Conclusion: Friendly and courteous staff, but there is a lot of room for improvement at the management level.

Saturday evening, 8:00. There is a sign in front of the door saying 'Please wait to be seated!' Exclamation mark! Ohh! And so we stand there and wait. And wait. And wait. Service in front of us, service behind us. And we wait. And wait. We take a step in, everyone sees us. And we wait. And it's getting too silly for us. If it starts like this then we don't want to know what happens next. With rumblings in our stomachs about this treatment, we move on. But it still ended well for us.

We went there for dinner yesterday because we had heard that it was very good there. Unfortunately we were very disappointed!!! There was nothing going on but we still had to wait an hour for our food. The menu was small, but we found something. The wild garlic soup was good, the ox shoulder was absolutely not recommended, very stringy, the vegetables were hard to find and that for 28 euros!!! Taste, yes!!! The small salad didn't come at all, but was later added to the bill! The service was friendly but not very attentive, we always had to wave over if we wanted something. The ambience is great, but you won't get enough of it!! We come from the catering industry and were pretty disappointed 😞

Such a nice hotel (went into the restaurant through the hotel entrance), great and very appealing ambience... BUT the food was unfortunately a total failure and disappointing for so much money: dumplings and red cabbage with the crusty roast were cold (a complaint was made and they were given a new warm portion without any problems), Burger only lukewarm inside, roll cold (I didn't want to complain again!) Kässpatz'n strange smell as if cheese is rancid, Wiener Schnitzel (from veal! €31!!!) Meat way too fibrous! (Here the disappointment was so great that it was embarrassing for us to complain further.) Unfortunately, Maxbier is not my taste, but that is a matter of taste and is rated neutrally. However, food price/performance was a clear disappointed no go for such a great restaurant... a real shame!

Beautiful restaurant in a neo-rustic Bavarian style. Lots of international audience. Friendly, sometimes attentive service. Good food, very tasty cellar beer. Wiener Schnitzel large and thin with a lot of breading and a little potato salad. Expensive at 31 euros, like everything else: roast pork 20 euros (!), knuckle 22, 0.5l cellar beer 5.70 euros, expresso 3 euros. The price level is really very high.

Nice restaurant, everything clean. Ordering food was such an issue, nothing was delivered between the holidays, there wasn't even potato dumplings and no wheat beer either. Okay, so the choice was a pork knuckle and the risotto. For allergy sufferers, everything seems to be baked with breading. Or lots of cheese on it. Food was very generous. The cooking is good there, the coleslaw is a bit poor, but salt and pepper are available upon request. The cellar beer is very tasty and fruity. When asked why the fruity taste is in it, it was explained that it is the Chinese hops or Chinese yeast. Still, it was delicious, no question. Children's chair was brought and painting supplies upon request. The service was a little annoyed at first, but then became very friendly over the course of the service. We ate there for 63 euros, I gave her 100 and said 70 euros please. I only got 25 back, but left it alone as she took adequate care of her guests.

Unfortunately, the staff is extremely overworked, which means that a lot of things are lost... the service suffers accordingly. 40 minutes in front of empty plates and glasses is too much, just as a polite gesture to draw attention to yourself is ignored. I don't like shouting cheekily at waiters, unfortunately that was obviously the method of choice at the other tables to get served. Important details in the meal are also lost because the cooks are switched around in the kitchen (a bacon-wrapped pike-perch comes without bacon wrapping, for example). A waiter told us that he was hired there as a "loan" because there were no staff there. The previous week he even acted as cook. The basic idea of ​​the inn with its own brewery is great and the food is basically very good! That has to be said in fairness. The inn could get a 5 star rating from me...

Preis und Leistung passen überhaupt nicht zusammen. Hauptgang nicht unter 30€, Suppe als Vorspeise nicht unter 10€. Preise die an der Sterneküche angelehnt sind, aber bei weitem nicht mithalten können. Es war definitiv unser erster und letzter Besuch in dem Restaurant.

Wir waren nicht zufrieden. Der Service war sehr unfreundlich. Das Schnitzel war in Ordnung. Die vegetarischen Ravioli, für einen stolzen Preis von 21€, eine viel zu kleine Portion und der Parmesanschaum hat auch noch gefehlt. Die Reklamation wurde vom Service mit den wortwörtlich „…ich habe das Essen nur aufgetragen…“ abgetan. Mehr als Schade!

Wir sind seit einigen Jahren regelmäßig Gäste im Maxbräu und waren immer rundum zufrieden. Nun waren wir diese Woche erneut und waren einfach nur super enttäuscht. Die Tische wurden so eng gestellt, dass man fast keinen Einzeltisch mehr hat. Man konnte nicht aufstehen ohne andere zu stören, bei den Gesprächen am Nachbartisch hätte man direkt mitsprechen können. Es war wirklich so eng, dass man sich richtig unwohl gefühlt hat. Wir sind dann deshalb auch ohne Dessert gegangen. Der Service war auch schon mal besser! Das Restaurant war nicht voll und trotzdem ein richtiges Stressgefühl im Service vorhanden, das man als Gast auch gespürt hat. Das Essen war gut, ist nur leider an diesem Abend in den Hintergrund gerückt. Für unseren Geschmack, war die Karte auch schon deutlich besser was die Auswahl angeht. Die 2 Sterne gibt es rein für das Essen, alles drum herum hat leider nicht gepasst.

Terrible attitude, treating us as of we were idiots, disregarding an order for a special desert that we ordered as soon as we sat at the table, and because of her neglect we ended up leaving without......we felt discriminated, badly treated, ended up cancelling further reservations.........what a shame!

Das Essen war kalt, der Salat ungenießbar nur mit Öl vermanscht. Die Käse Spatzen waren fettig, kalt und ungewürzt. Der Tee für fast 4 € nur 3/4 gefüllt. Der Krustenbraten nicht mehr als Durchschnitt. Auf Rückfrage nach einem Salat der nicht im Öl schwimmt bekommt man als Antwort: ist halt so, gibts nur so...

Sehr gemütliches Brauerei-Lokal mit leckerer bayrischer Küche

Ein wunderschönes Lokal mit rießen Defiziten und Macken. Wir haben uns folgendes Essen bestellt, einmal Krustenbraten und einmal Käsespätzle. Einen Pfefferminztee, ein Bier und ein Wasser. Bekommen haben wir einen Tee für fast 4 € der nur 3/4 voll war, die Käsespätzle erste Runde waren kalt, die Reklamation ist entsprechend unfreundlich angenommen worden. Der Salat zu den Käsespätzle war eine reine Ölpampe mit Blättern und div. ohne Geschmack. Das Öl hat alles dominiert. Auf eine höfliche Anfrage hin, ob es den Salat auch mit weniger Öl gibt, wurde pampig mitgeteilt, dass ist halt so, das gibts hier nicht anders. Als ich sagte, dass ich den dann nicht essen mag, wurde er wortlos mitgenommen. Ein Ausgleich fand nicht statt, es wurde nichts anderes angeboten oder alternativen genannt. Die Käsespätzle in der zweiten Runde schmeckten einfach nur - naja - eine fettige, ölige Substanz mit einem seltsamen Geschmack, wie Bergkäse hat es nicht geschmeckt. Auch hier hätte ein paar Gewürze nicht geschadet. Der Krustenbraten war mittlerer Durchschnitt und sehr fettig und ebenfalls ohne Gewürze. Die Kruste war so, wie man sich eine Kruste vorstellt, allerdings so ohne jeglichen Geschmack, schlichtweg ungewürzt. Vom Fleisch wurde viel aussortiert, weil man das ganze Fett weggenommen hat auf dem Teller. Die Knödel waren wie zwei kleine Minigolfbälle und das Blaukraut schmeckte ebenfalls extrem fettig, die Soße wirkte „gestreckt“ nur das Würzen hat man wieder vergessen. Niemand hat gefragt, ob es geschmeckt hat oder ob wir zufrieden waren, das war schon deutlich, was es hier für Defizite gibt. Berechnet wurde alles - stehengelassen das meiste weil ungenießbar. Wir haben schon lange nicht mehr so schlecht gegessen wie in diesem Restaurant. So ist das halt in Touristen und Nato Hochburgen, da ist es ziemlich egal ob der Kunde zufrieden war, das ist ein reiner Durchlaufposten Kunde.
