Café Mexico Hamburg - Tequila Restaurant in Hamburg

Essen war lecker aber nicht herausragend. Man konnte dort gut sitzen, allerdings wurde es dann etwas voller und dann wurden die Wartezeit sehr lang.

Ich hatte ja schon viele merkwürdige Restaurant-Erlebnisse, ab das hier was bislang das Schrägste. Als wir ankamen, war zunächst einmal niemand zu sehen, weder Wirt noch Bedienung. Irgendwann nach fünf Minuten oder so kam dann der Chef heraus, begrüßte uns aber nicht, sondern murmelte irgendetwas von "Neuer Koch, hat keine Ahnung, muss ihn einlernen" und noch, dass irgendjemand nicht gekommen sei (Koch? Bedienung?). Dann verschwand er wieder. Einige Minuten später kam er dann wieder raus und brachte uns die Speisekarte. Wir bestellten eine gemeinsame Vorspeise und zwei Hauptgänge. Dann passierte wenig. Irgendwann einmal trudelte dann sogar eine Bedienung ein, die allerdings kein Deutsch verstand (nicht mal „Löffel“, um den wir baten) und mit der wir uns fortan auf Englisch unterhielten. Diese servierte uns dann ein paar Taco-Chips mit ein bisschen Salsa und Bohnencreme. Hatten wir zwar nicht bestellt, aber wir waren hungrig und interpretierten dies als Gruß aus der Küche (oder so). Das eigentliche Essen ließ allerdings immer noch auf sich warten. Als dann mein Bier alle war, bestellte ich dasselbe nochmal. Kurz darauf kam dann die Bedienung wieder, teilte mir mit, dass das Augustiner alle sei und hielt mir zwei Flaschen Weißbier unter die Nase - die hätten sie noch da. Ich entschied mich für eines, bereute dies aber kurz darauf bereits, denn es schmeckte sehr schal und ein Blick auf das Verfallsdatum bescheinigte mir, dass es bereits 9 Monate darüber hinaus war. Ich überlegte noch, ob ich mich beschweren sollte, aber das erübrigte sich dann schnell, denn es kam tatsächlich etwas zum Essen - aber leider nicht das, was wir bestellt hatten. Das wurde dann auch von uns moniert, worauf die Bedienung wieder in der Küche verschwand. Aus dieser tauchte sie dann irgendwann wieder auf und beschied uns, dass der neue Koch wohl eine komplette Pfeife sei und stellte uns frei, das Lokal kostenfrei zu verlassen, was wir dann auch schleunigst taten und uns beim Inder um die Ecke was bestellten. Mag sein, dass ich dem Restaurant mit dieser Rezension Unrecht tue und man dort normalerweise gut essen kann, aber ich kann nur das bewerten, was ich erlebt habe – und das war unter alle Kanone. Falls es wirklich an diesem Tag Probleme mit dem Personal gab: Dann macht halt das Lokal ein paar Tage dicht und lernt den Koch vernünftig aber. Aber vergrault nicht eure Kunden, denn die kommen nach so einem Erlebnis garantiert nicht wieder.

Die besten Suadero-Tacos, die ich je gegessen habe! Da wir nicht reserviert hatten, hat der Besitzer (zusammen mit seinem Sohn) kurzerhand noch Tische draußen aufgestellt, damit wir das schöne Wetter an Pfingsten genießen konnten. Sehr freundliche Leute und fantastisches Essen. Die Micheladas waren auch sehr lecker. Ich komme auf jeden Fall wieder, wenn ich in Hamburg bin!

Auch das gesamte Personal ist sehr freundlich und gut gelaunt. Wir hatten einen sehr schönen Abend im Café México, das Essen war super lecker und authentisch, genauso wie die Einrichtung. Ich habe mich direkt wie in Mexiko gefühlt. Auch der Service war super freundlich :) Die Preise wirken auf den ersten Blick vielleicht etwas hoch. Da man hier aber als Vorspeise Totopos mit verschiedenen Dipps sowie Tequila am Ende gratis dazu bekommt, sind die Preise eigentlich nicht höher als in anderen mexikanischen Restaurants hier und die Qualität des Essens war wirklich toll :)

Wir hatten einen richtig schönen Besuch im Café Mexixo. Das Ambiente ist angenehm und stimmungsvoll – man fühlt sich sofort willkommen und bekommt direkt ein typisch mexikanisches Flair vermittelt. Das Essen war super lecker und authentisch. Besonders begeistert hat mich das vegetarische Angebot – vielfältig, kreativ und geschmacklich hervorragend. Und ich habe dort zum ersten Mal Kaktus gegessen (zumindest glaube ich, dass es einer war 😉) – eine richtig tolle, neue Geschmackserfahrung! Das Personal war aufmerksam, hilfsbereit, freundlich und sehr herzlich. Man merkt, dass hier mit Leidenschaft gearbeitet wird. Ein rundum gelungener Besuch – absolut empfehlenswert! 🌮✨

"Verbesserungswürdig" 2 /6 Leider mussten wir über eine Stunde in diesem kalten und ungemütlichen Restaurant auf die Vorspeisen warten, die Hauptgerichte sind nach ca 90 Minuten gekommen. Alles war durcheinander (wir waren zu viert) und machte einen chaotischen Eindruck. Das Essen war lauwarm, fast kalt. Mein Gericht erinnerte optisch eher an ein Bananen Split. Geschmacklich eher eine 4, kein Pfiff keine Rafinesse, totaler Matsch. Und zu teuer ist es bei der miesen Qualität auch. Ich liebe mexikanische Küche, aber diese Restaurant kann es einfach nicht. Da schmeckt es selbst bei Tacco Bell besser. Wir kommen definitiv nicht wieder in das Café Mexiko.

Die Angestellten waren sehr freundlich, aber leider mussten wir über 90 Minuten auf unser Essen warten. Das hat unser Erlebnis wirklich getrübt und war enttäuschend, zumal das Restaurant nicht sehr voll war.

Es war das beste mexikanische Essen, das wir je in Hamburg gegessen haben. Wir hatten Enchiladas – einfach fantastisch! Selbst so etwas Einfaches wie Pico de Gallo war besser als anderswo. Ich komme wieder.

Wir waren an Silvester da und es wär alles wunderbar !!! Das Essen war lecker und echt frisch und mal etwas ganz anderes und wirklich authentisch ! Wir wurden sehr freundlich bedient und haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt. Zum Abschluss gab es sogar noch einen Hochprozentigen aufs Haus. Würden auf jeden Fall wiederkommen und haben das Restaurant auch schon direkt weiter empfohlen.

WOW! 🤩 Compliments to Roman and his wonderful father Isidoro. They've created a gem. If you value truly delicious, authentic Mexican food, you should let Roman cook for you. Isidoro is in charge of drinks. He mixed a drink I wasn't familiar with. A little tomato juice, freshly squeezed lime, infused with beer. Sounds exciting, tastes sensationally refreshing!!! Even though I arrived late, I received a lovingly prepared plate of Taco Classico. So many flavors, fresh ingredients, and aromatic herbs, it was a feast to eat there. I got a plate with three delicious, traditional dips on the house. The refried beans were black and creamy, the guacamole was made from really good avocados, and the salsa was perfectly blended with fresh cilantro. The tequila at the end went down like velvet. Considering this is the finest Mexican cuisine, the price is certainly justified. The place itself has something magical about it. A piece of Mexico in the heart of Hamburg!

Wow, just wow. I always thought I'd eaten Mexican food before, but this was on a whole different level. Everything was homemade and presented and served with so much passion. The waitress was so attentive and kind, patiently telling me so much about the food and tequila/mezcal. Of course, it's a bit more expensive, but when something is made with love, I'm happy to pay a little more. I'll definitely be back.

We were spontaneously passing through Schanze and discovered this Mexican restaurant—a wonderful surprise! Very authentic cuisine, super attentive staff, and truly delicious margaritas that were absolutely worth the price. Everything tasted fresh and harmonious, much more authentic than many other places. We'll be back!

WOW... A simple Google search for Mexican food led us to discover this wonderful restaurant in the Schanzenviertel district today. A great ambiance, super friendly staff (!), and a wonderful family atmosphere (if you want to learn about tequila, just take a moment to chat with the owner 😊) combine to create a perfect symbiosis between the food and drinks. For fans (or those who want to become fans) of Mexican cuisine, this visit is an absolute MUST, in our opinion! We were truly blown away... or in short: ...when food makes you happy... For dinner or a drink, always a good choice. Perfect snacks (e.g. guacamole), a good margherita or tequilas. Very funny (for Bavaria): there is light beer from the Augustiner, which is served in a wheat beer glass :-)

We came here by chance and were keen to try it. It was definitely worth it, very tasty. Absolutely authentic food (I've been in Mexico for a while) at a fair price, very friendly and attentive service. The Tequila / Mezcal / Sotol drinks menu is very cool and unusual for Germany. I had the pleasure of dining at Café México last night, and I have to say, it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Café México is the epitome of authentic Mexican cuisine. As soon as you enter, you'll feel like you've been transported to Mexico thanks to the colorful decor and lively music. We started with homemade guacamole - seasoned perfectly. The tacos al pastor were incredible – tender, flavorful meat with just the right balance of sweet and spicy. The mole enchiladas were rich and complex, with flavors that could only come from a perfectly balanced recipe. A real highlight was the incredible selection of tequila and mezcal. The servers were very knowledgeable and gave us great recommendations - everything from mild, gentle flavors to smoky, intense notes. The mezcal margarita was an absolute delight! The service was first class - attentive, friendly and with a real understanding of Mexican cuisine and culture. If you're looking for authentic Mexican flavors and want to enjoy an impressive selection of tequila and mezcal, this restaurant is a must. Highly recommended!

Super nice staff, nice authentic atmosphere, but unfortunately the ratio between price and quantity wasn't that good. We found it a bit too expensive for the size of the dishes. But everything tasted very good and the staff was very friendly. :)

So, right from the start: The food at Café Mexico is super delicious and the service is very friendly. From this perspective, I can only recommend this place. Card payments are also accepted without any problems. The food is quite expensive, but, as I said, very tasty. The downside was that it was quite cold in the restaurant. We were there at the end of January, and I had to put on my jacket inside. That's not a problem in the summer, but more difficult in the winter. The staff or owners shouldn't be walking around in sweatpants, either. But that doesn't have to bother everyone. Overall, I would give it 3.5 stars.

My friend and I made a reservation for her birthday and then found ourselves in front of the locked door. Although we received a reservation confirmation. Since it is January 2nd. Everything else was closed or full. We were so annoyed. We didn't find anything recently, even after walking around in the cold for a long time. Super disappointing and a real shame that no one responded to our message and questions about what was going on.

Wir waren mit der Familie im Cafe Mexico essen und waren hellauf begeistert. Ich habe selber eine Zeit lang in Mexiko gelebt und weiß, wie schwierig es ist, authentische Tacos in Deutschland zu finden (eben nicht dieses Tex-Mex-Zeug). Im Cafe Mexico bin ich fündig geworden. Und wie. Vorweg zum Ambiente und zum Personal: Es ist kitschig-mexikanisch eingerichtet, sodass man sich sofort wie in einem Restaurant in Guadalajara vorkommt. Der Gastgeber (den ich leider nicht nach seinem Namen gefragt habe) war sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Wir haben uns nett unterhalten. Essen und Getränke waren schnell auf dem Tisch. Top! Zum Trinken hatte ich ein Pacifico-Bier, eine Michelada und einen Tequila. Der Tequila war unfassbar sanft und geschmacksintensiv. Meine Frau trinkt normalerweise keinen Schnaps, hat ihn aber probiert mit dem Kommentar "wie wenn man ein Seidenkissen im Mund hätte". Das hatte ich aber auch so erwartet beim Preis von ca 10 Euro für 0,02 L. Zum Essen bekamen wir als Amuse Bouche Nachos mit Bohnenmus (Frijoles) und Tomaten-Zwiebel-Salsa (Salsa Mexicana). Da kann man wenig richtig, aber viel falsch machen. Die Küche hat alles richtig gemacht. War ein guter Start. Dann als zweite Vorspeise Nachos mit Guacamole. Die war selbstverständlich hausgemacht und sehr frisch und lecker. Weiter ging es mit zweierlei Tacos: Al Pastor und mit geschmorten Rindfleisch (hab den Namen vergessen - Pulled Beef quasi). Absolutes Geschmacksfeuerwerk bei beiden. Wirklich klasse, ich hab mich gefühlt wie im Himmel. Saftig, schön mit Limette und Koriander. Dazu perfekte Tortillas. Großes Kompliment. Gefühlt hätte die Portion Tacos auch 3-5 Euro günstiger sein können, aber in die Kalkulation einer Gastro 2024 hab ich keinen Einblick. Daher möchte ich da nicht meckern. Ich komme aus dem Schwarzwald und überlege ernsthaft, mal wieder aufgrund des Café Mexico nach HH zu kommen. Der Laden ist eine absolute Empfehlung für alle, die wirklich mexikanisch essen wollen.

We ate with the family at Cafe Mexico and were absolutely thrilled. I lived in Mexico for a while and know how difficult it is to find authentic tacos in Germany (not the Tex-Mex stuff). I found what I was looking for in Cafe Mexico. And how. First of all, about the ambience and the staff: It's decorated in a kitschy Mexican style, so you immediately feel like you're in a restaurant in Guadalajara. The host (unfortunately I didn't ask his name) was very friendly and accommodating. We had a nice chat. Food and drinks were on the table quickly. Top! To drink I had a Pacifico beer, a michelada and a tequila. The tequila was incredibly smooth and flavorful. My wife doesn't normally drink schnapps, but tried it with the comment "like having a silk pillow in your mouth". But that's what I expected given the price of around 10 euros for 0.02 L. As an amuse bouche, we were given nachos with refried beans (Frijoles) and tomato and onion salsa (Salsa Mexicana). There is little you can do right, but a lot you can do wrong. The kitchen did everything right. Was a good start. Then the second starter was nachos with guacamole. It was of course homemade and very fresh and tasty. We continued with two types of tacos: Al Pastor and with braised beef (I forgot the name - pulled beef, so to speak). Absolute fireworks of taste for both. Really great, I felt like I was in heaven. Juicy, nice with lime and coriander. Plus perfect tortillas. Big compliment. It feels like the portion of tacos could have been 3-5 euros cheaper, but I have no insight into the calculation of a gastro in 2024. So I don't want to complain about that. I come from the Black Forest and am seriously considering coming to HH again because of Café Mexico. The shop is an absolute recommendation for anyone who really wants to eat Mexican food.

The food was really great and the cocktails were really like in Mexico. The service was a little understaffed. Unfortunately, the prices are really very high - we paid just over 100 euros for two people, for starters, main courses and a cocktail each.

There were 2 of us in this restaurant. The dishes were delicious as was the authentic atmosphere. The cellars were also helpful and could speak many languages ​​(de/en/fr/es). Cocktail was great too. It's a bit expensive 70eur for two but many things like tequila, water, salad are released. Maybe you could automatically install lights in the toilets. I didn't find the switches.

I always come here with my boyfriend. The tacos are amazing. And there are even enchiladas with mole. You rarely find something like that. But at least the food is authentically Mexican and not gringo Tex-Mex food. Large selection of mezcal and tequila. You can sit outside in summer. Mexican music is playing inside. Service is very friendly. To say goodbye, there is sometimes a tequilita after paying. I will always come back!

Two of us were there a few weeks ago and found the young man's service extremely friendly, attentive and accommodating. Everything's great! The food seemed very authentic and tasty, a bit expensive, but that seems to be the case now. But there was a really tasty home-made appetizer. It's better to pay more and support small, privately run restaurants than to just end up with boring chain food. There is a bit of a deduction for a look into the kitchen. Clean and hygienic looks a little different. And in the end the boss personally came to collect the money. As a former waiter colleague, this seems very strange and unfortunately you don't really know where the tip goes. I like to give tips to those who looked after me the whole time and not to the head of the house at the end.

Authentic Mexican cuisine, all freshly prepared and delicious, takes a while but is worth the wait. No Tex Mex, I loved it

Bad service and I got the worst food poisoning ever from the meat tacos. Kitchen looked very chaotic and kids were running around between bathroom and kitchen.

Super tasty, fresh and also really spicy (if you want) with very nice service.

I am completely satisfied. If you want to enjoy authentic Mexican food, good service and beautiful Mexican music, this is the place for you. 5 stars from me👍❤️

The food was good, the price was quite high. Unfortunately the service wasn't good. Our waitress had so little desire to serve us that it was unpleasant. When we had almost finished eating, the Magaritas arrived. When we said we had ordered margaritas, we asked if this was really the case. The room is high with many tables. Accordingly the volume, so not recommended for a leisurely meal. We barely understood our own words.

LO MEJOR!!!!! Comida preciossssissssssimaaaaaaa! My absolute favorite original Mexican restaurant, far and wide! Enjoy and close your eyes and you'll be sitting right on the Zocalo with the smell of coriander in the air!

Used to come here years ago, today I came back and was just as I remembered, food delicious, warm and welcoming service. If you like spicy ask for their special chile oil. Sooooo good!

Essen top, wenn auch nicht ganz günstig. Service leider etwas langsam da anscheinend nur der Chef die Getränke und die Bezahlung macht. Wie hatten aber trotzdem einen sehr schönen Abend!

Sehr leckeres und authentisches mexikanisches Essen. Schnelle und freundliche Bedienung. Hat mir persönlich besser geschmeckt als zB Mexiko Straße auf dem Kiez, komme auf jeden Fall wieder!

Das Personal war sehr freundlich. Das Essen kam zügig, allerdings waren die Portionen für den Preis zu klein. Ùber 20 EURO für 4 kleine Tacos ist deutlich zu viel.

Für mich ist Café Mexico das Restaurant mit der authentischsten mexikanische Küche in Hamburg. Hier findet man auch Gerichte, die es sonst nirgends zu finden gibt wie Nopales und Mole. Die Portionen sind angemessen groß, das Restaurant ansprechend eingerichtet. Bei schönem Wetter kann man draußen sitzen. Die Bedienung ist manchmal etwas langsam.
