Very dark and not very inviting. We still had to wait over 15 minutes at very few tables to order and then another 15-20 minutes to get the coffee. Unfortunately the same applies when paying. I'm usually always enthusiastic about Cafe del Sol but this visit was absolutely the opposite.

Pizza was already dark brown on the bottom and black on the edge. The shrimp were swimming in oil. Only the burger was OK. The restaurant is well done. Only at this point there is almost no cell phone reception and the free Wi-Fi doesn't work. So a mediocre restaurant experience.

The Café del Sol has long been an institution here in Herne where you can eat, drink and relax. However, a lot has changed over time and not only for the better. The prices for food and drinks have risen sharply, for example you pay 4.70 euros for a latte macchiato with oat milk, which I don't exactly see as good value. I used to eat there often, but the portions have gotten smaller and the prices have gotten higher. In my opinion, the price-performance ratio no longer matches, the quality of the products is OK there. The company's answer was probably written by an AI, I can't explain the answer any other way.

Cappuccino without espresso, basically just got hot milk. Luckily it wasn't charged. If you know a café of this type, you know them all. I didn't eat anything.

Chilli cheese fries were only served lukewarm but were remade at my request. The bottom line is that it's far too expensive for the convenience stuff that's being served up. But what didn't work was that two waiters were at our table when we paid. One to collect, another to clear away. One of the two must have farted badly beforehand; our table smelled awful. Completely intolerable behavior. Someone like that should be terminated without notice!!!!!

Waiting time for food over 60 minutes

I'm pretty disappointed with the current menu (I haven't been here for about a year). The Penne Honey is no longer available, instead Penne Spezi without chicken. You have to order the toppjng separately. Instead of schnitzel pizza, which was really good, there is now pinsa (thick dough) and the schnitzel del sol now costs €18.90 and it's not even a veal schnitzel. The current season ticket looks nice, but I think €15 is too much for a frozen carpaccio. I don't know if I'm new to the world when it comes to restaurant prices for food, but I was definitely shocked. The ambience and service otherwise remained the same, only the terrace is very dirty (tips on the floor). For me it has lost some of the charm from back then.

We went there for brunch with friends and it was OK. Selection is okay, quality was OK. At lunch it is simply food kept warm from the morning onwards which was neither labeled nor really tasty. I'm here often and unfortunately the portions are getting smaller and smaller, everything is becoming more uncaring and at the latest when I get an iced tea for €6.90, which in the picture is full of raspberries and then comes red-colored water, the fun ends. Raspberries were out... Then take it off the menu and don't piss people off. Now I'm not someone who just vents his frustration here. The complaint was also communicated on site and an attempt was made to resolve it with an espresso. Well, that doesn't change the fact. Sorry. The ambience and staff are still great, there's nothing to complain about. But the fact that you are being ripped off in plain German stands in the way of another visit in the near future.

We've been back for a long time Café Del Sol, because we always had nothing but good memories of eating here. There's nothing to complain about about the food, it tastes very tasty (even though my wife's Cesar salad was just leaves in sauce without any nice additives, that's very meager for the price) - but when my vegan Schnitzel Del Sol with approx 25 pieces of fries arrived, I was amazed. The dish costs just under €20, which I'm happy to pay, meat and meat alternatives are expensive - but the fact that such a ridiculously small amount of fries are included as a side dish at that price... a bad joke. Luckily my daughter didn't finish hers, otherwise I wouldn't have been full. Too bad Del Sol! In short: without question, the food and drinks are delicious and the atmosphere is great. But the quantities for the price leave a lot to be desired.

Portion sizes increase inversely with prices. For 20 € you will get 7 ribs and 23 pieces of mixed meat.🫤

Culinary an ABSOLUTE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!! Ordered 2 dishes, Del Sol Schnitzel and a Chilli Cheese Burger. The food came after about 45 minutes, but fries had obviously been thrown into the hairdresser several times (everything from very light to crispy brown was there) but despite all that it was cold, hard and dry). The sauce on the schnitzel had already dried out had already formed a skin. This meant that the sauce didn't run even when it was cut. Half of the burger consisted of jalapenos, the tomato was not removed! Cocktails are also not recommended, Tequila Sunrise tastes like water and the Driver Mojito had so much ice and mint that it was impossible to spread the sugar from the bottom! Our conclusion, NEVER AGAIN! *Staff was very accommodating and immediately brought new fries (they were warm but had probably already been in several frying pan baths)

I actually like Cafe del Sol, but we've been to this one twice now and both times weren't good. Today we were there around 2 p.m. and it was really quiet. We walk in and there were 3 employees at the bar who obviously saw us. There was no reaction. We then sat down and looked at the map and then nothing for 20 minutes…. An employee looked at our table a few times from a distance and then walked past several times. Orders were taken from others, but nothing from us. There were probably 5-6 employees running around in the store and no one felt responsible for our table. If the store is completely full, okay, it might take longer, but that wasn't the case. We then left because at some point it was too stupid. For me that has nothing to do with good service.

Very cozy atmosphere, unfortunately sometimes a bit too loud. We're looking forward to being able to sit outside again in the summer with a cocktail. The staff is always attentive and friendly. The food is delicious and the quantity is completely sufficient. Next door is the Decathlon sports store and the parking spaces can be used. Very easy to reach both through the city and on the highway. This time we had a burger that was worth the money. Update: Unfortunately today's visit was a disaster. We were here on a Wednesday afternoon. The weather was good so we sat outside. It was well attended but not overly crowded. The table was free but unfortunately still dirty from previous users. When asked to clean the table with a cloth, the first service employee referred to his colleague because it was not his table. The colleague seemed extremely annoyed, but then took care of the problem. We ordered a pomegranate/raspberry iced tea. The photo in the card had absolutely nothing in common with what we received. There were actually 2 small blackberries floating around in the glass. When we asked the waitress about it, she said snidely that they were just decoration. It is a large glass, but there were 12 large ice cubes in it. After a short time, these watered down the iced tea extremely. After sitting with empty glasses for some time and being ignored by her, we were able to get a coffee from a colleague. We hope that it was just a series of unfortunate circumstances that day and that we can report positively on the next visit.

I enjoyed service and food very well before the lockdown and also afterwards. Unfortunately, the breakfast buffet was too confusing for me, rolls were a little bigger than pizza rolls. Therefore 2 stars deducted. I'll still eat and drink, just not a buffet, as the competition offers a better concept with clarity and normal size of rolls. I also saw a review here from Chick and Chips, I also noticed the option shown.

I recently ordered a lemon iced tea and was deeply disappointed. The fresh lemons in my drink were full of mold - simply unacceptable! How can something like this happen? I immediately asked for a new drink but it seems like I just got the same drink back without the lemons. The whole incident was just disgusting and clearly shows a lack of hygiene and customer service. Very disappointing and definitely not recommended!

Never received such service. Waited ages for the drink order which was then delivered quite quickly. At some point the glasses were empty, called 4 times, ignored 4 times. Four waiters were responsible for the outside area but only served the tables in front of the door. After about 40 minutes we became aware of us and we actually wanted to order food. He wanted to come back and never came back, at least not to us. In this day and age you should really treat your guests differently. I'm surprised that they can afford this when there's a Losteria right next door and the waitresses are always super nice and funny. Never del sol again. I went for my girlfriend's sake because she likes it there. 2 girls who serve are superficial like Siamese twins, no reaction either.

Unfortunately, it is now so loud there that it is no longer possible to have a conversation in peace. The music is booming in every corner. The schnitzel is flattened and the fries would have been better off spending some time in the deep fryer. I'm going to stay away for a while now

I really like the building with big terrace and pavillon. The service was good but by times a little slow. They have a wide range of food. I think they could improve on their veggie offer though.

Never again Café del Sol. We have always not experienced good service at other Café de Sol locations. Today was the last time we were in one of the restaurants. What was initially positive in Herne was that we didn't have to wait particularly long for someone to take our order. After waiting 20 minutes for the drinks, we asked. After another 20 minutes we asked again. After a total of 50 minutes we left the restaurant and let them know. Inside there were 4-5 employees behind the counter. There were only two employees in the restaurant, which of course had a lot to do given its size. I come from the catering industry myself and know the difficulties. But you should work on structural things, because so far speed has always been the problem in all stores. Next door to restaurant colleagues, we had our drinks after 5 minutes.

Something was wrong with the coffee. Too light and not hot. It also took a very long time for the food to arrive. However, it tasted good and I like the decor. Update 2024. The coffee was very good today, but it was probably just an oversight back then. I'm surprised that the acoustics here are always criticized, it's just big and high. If possible, I like to sit outside anyway. It's the same as the branch in Bochum. I was satisfied and enjoy visiting the del Sols.

Outrageous. We ordered lasagne, the pasta sheets were so overcooked that they fell through the fork, complained about the food and ordered something else. When we wanted to pay, we were also charged for the lasagna that we didn't eat. When we said that it was inedible and we didn't pay for something we didn't eat, we were told that they would now go through with it and the next time something like that happens we still have to pay for it!!! This is so ridiculous and a shame, we've been there almost weekly for years. Then it's better to go 100m further to the competition with friendly staff and delicious lasagna! 😉

Well.. We were there around 2 p.m. and there was nothing going on, one drink was brought to us too many without asking, one main course was completely forgotten and there was something wrong with the food for two (1x wrong dressing and 1x jalapeños forgotten on a jalapeño burger ). The forgotten item was delivered and we were given a bowl of jalapeños at the table. The wrong dressing was simply accepted... Mistakes happen and it wouldn't have been so stupid if there had been more going on, but that was really a letdown. It was delicious, but I would still go back to Gelsenkirchen next time.

Hello, after a long time I had breakfast and brunch with my son again. I was there from the beginning often, but now only now and then. We went here for brunch for Mother's Day. What can you say about that, our service staff was nice and attentive, the food was ok but unfortunately it was often out and it took longer for it to be refilled. But what I find to be an absolute NOGO... If dogs are at the table, no problem, but head on table, or dog on chair, DIFFICULT..... What was absolutely amazing was the feeding from the table or from the plate and then the comment from the waiter that the owners wanted that to be INCOMPREHENSIBLE

Unfortunately, the creme brulee was served cold and the fries were at room temperature. We ordered the fries before the other dishes because a few family members hadn't decided yet. However, they arrived later after we pointed this out to the staff. The chicken avocado fries were also lacking. The only good thing about it was the fries, while the sauce & the poultry were not tasty.

We had breakfast buffet and were able to help ourselves to the buffet for 3 hours. There was everything your heart could desire, from salmon, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, etc. What was very annoying was that neither Cola nor Pepsi was offered on the drinks menu, so I had to drink Cola Zero from Sinalco, which I didn't like at all.

I ordered new glasses, one of the new glasses still had an orange-colored liquid in it... • The cutlery has leftover food or is sticky…. • Ordered the second plate several times... didn't come, so I organized it myself - gave it as a gift! • And to top it off, packaging material in the Pinsa • Damian, the person in charge, just said: yes, it's packaging... positive: we didn't have to pay for the “Pinsa with plastic”. • And the quality of the food was – to put it nicely – not good. Pinsa completely covered in pesto, no Serrano ham to be found...just the packaging... • The dip - offered as “truffle mayo” - was normal mayo!?!??! Very funny… No wonder the restaurant was almost empty. Unfortunately we couldn't get a table at the Bavaria Alm Herne next door. Now i know why! -> Conclusion: Service, hygiene, food – very bad. It's a shame, it's more of a snack bar, it wasn't like that a few years ago. I think something fundamentally needs to change.
