Thanks for the wonderful party. Mega delicious food, 5* for every chef who was involved in the cooking, great atmosphere with very nice table decorations. Super nice and attentive staff 👍🏻 always made sure that no one was dying of thirst. Simply wonderful 😁 I would love to come back and absolutely recommend it.

We visited Altenstein Castle last weekend. A must for this region, the castle is architecturally a feast for the eyes. We were hungry and thirsty after the tour, but with temperatures around 30°C we were happy to have some shade. Unfortunately all the shady spots were occupied. I have to say we were traveling with our little daughter. I then politely asked the waitress whether we could set up a table in the shade or whether there was the possibility of setting up another parasol. The waitress then said that this wasn't possible and that we should/can sit down either in the restaurant or in the blazing sun. We then left the restaurant and I am very dissatisfied and can only express my great astonishment at this absolutely poor service and statement from a grown woman. Never go there again!

Unfortunately the staff was very unfriendly today. You didn't feel so welcomed. Coffee & cake were delicious.

We were registered for dinner on July 19, 2024 as a group of 22 people. The food could be selected in advance from the “small menu”. We were completely satisfied. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was very friendly and accommodating and the location was also great. Even one additional person got a meal. We were all very pleasantly surprised and completely satisfied. A very big THANK YOU to the entire team!!!!!

The restaurant closes at 7:00 p.m., we were there at 5:40 p.m. and we were told that there was no more food, only cake. Hot meals only in the afternoon. The place is a real goldmine on weekends when there are lots of hikers out and about, but apparently it doesn't need any sales.

Hello. I don't recommend these restaurants with delicious food and great ambience because I first encountered such unfriendly conditions at the grill.

Were in the Altenstein Castle Park on June 26th, 2024. The restaurant only offered an outdoor grill with bratwurst. The Thuringian bratwurst was very tasty. At 4 euros including rolls, it's a bit high. The young man at the grill was very nice and the sausage was served quickly. Toilets in the container were very clean according to my companion

Good location, but unfortunately the food wasn't good. Pulled pork was like before... Fries were okay.

3 stars, why: I'm not sure whether the restaurant identifies itself as a fast food place, but we were informed twice that it would take at least 30 minutes until something to eat came. You don't want to hear something like that and you only hear something like that in a few, mostly German-run establishments. The food came at a reasonable time, so the notice shouldn't have been there. The food selection is manageable, for example there was no fish dish and the shutters were all gone. The schnitzel gets a grade 2, the pulled pork a 2-. And, well... question of attitude and/or upbringing: just as a tip... People who are over 80 usually don't want to be addressed as "Du" by strangers without being asked.

Men's Day 24: Another great event with good mood and music. The ambience is great and so is the food. Even the waitress was in a good mood, polite and courteous. I was thrilled again and will come again. E.g. Pentecost.

There was no food. The waitress was more interested in her appearance, which didn't fit her job. We waited forever for a Coke. No paper or soap in the toilet. Never again

Old-fashioned, unfortunately not what it used to be, food only because the selection in the afternoon was really poor, but all in all very tasty.

Unfortunately this is the only option to eat at the castle. But if you can, you should avoid Café Altenstein. We ordered food at that time. After 20 minutes a meal came, at the second meal we were informed that the kitchen had forgotten to cook dumplings. You can wait 10 minutes for the dumplings or choose another side dish. We decided to wait even if we couldn't eat together. Then the food came with the toilet, the toilet was completely raw and sauce with pieces of roulade was served with the duck breast because apparently they didn't have any sauce for duck. The food was returned and we were offered to choose something else. Because we didn't have enough time, we decided on the Kaiserschmarren, which came quickly, no wonder, it was all frozen... Everything in the gets You can get ready-made products here at a very competitive price!

At 11 a.m. a very nice service and spontaneously a small appetizer lovingly prepared by the kitchen. Great, thank you for that!!!

I was there on October 14th. We came here as a group for lunch. I was really looking forward to lunch and was very hungry. All the employees except the young man who was nice were overwhelmed and not so nice. I got the food and swallowed it first. For €17.50 such a small schnitzel with fat in it and very few fries that were actually good but far too few fries! €17.50 is clearly too much for that!!! In addition, it doesn't look like the price in the restaurant is justified and the employees don't know what you ordered and can't do the math.

BBQ Freitag Abend . Essen sehr lecker , Bedienung sehr freundlich. Preis Leistung top, wir kommen wieder !

Punktet komplett mit Allem! Die Speisen super schmackhaft & sehr nett angerichtet. Die Bedingung sehr freundlich, höflich und auf Zack. Das Ambiente ist ebenfalls top. Alles chic, gepflegt und sehr sauber. Café Altenstein kann ich nur empfehlen.

Wir tranken Kaffee und aßen Mohn- und Kirschkuchen. Ein Genuss! Nach der Wanderung genossen wir eine wunderbare Thüringer Rostbratwurst pur.

Hey Leute, wir waren auf einem Donnerstag Abend da. Wir hatten vorsichtshalber über Facebook einen Tisch reserviert aber das hätten wir nicht machen brauche da ein anderes Pärchen und wir die einzige waren an dem Abend. Ist aber echt schade da die Örtlichkeit beim Schloss richtig toll ist aber auch sehr abgelegen. So zum essen, wir hatten beide Bürger mit sehr leckeren selbst gemacht Pommes... Ich für meinen Teil muss sagen, das mein Bürger einfach Standart war. Wie ich ihn zuhause auch ohne Probleme hin bekommen würde. Meine Frau fand ihren Bürger vollkommen in Ordnung, ich zitiere "ist nix besonderes gewesen aber in Ordnung". Die Pommes fanden wir klasse. Das Ambiente ist richtig toll mit der bernstein Farben Beleuchtung aber leider bei genauerem hin schauen waren die Gestecke staubig und Spinnweben waren auch daran sowie auch an den Fenstern. Wir waren das zweite mal da und leider war es das erste mal auch so. Tipp von uns... macht mehr werbung an der Straße zu euch und untem im Ort, man findet euch sonst nicht und das ihr Donnerstag Bürger und Pizza macht und Freitags BBQ weiß auch keiner... Die Bürger brauchen mehr pfiff, Gewürze und die Patties nicht ganz durch Braten bei frischen Hack oder den Gast fragen wie er ihn gerne hätte. Das ist nur unsere Meinungen und ansichten, Probiert es selbst aus... essen ist ja Geschmackssache...

Essen schmeckt sehr gut, die Spareribs waren sehr zart, auch die Pommes schön knusprig und die soße ein Genuß. Das Servicpersonal war sehr freundlich. Allen im allen kann ich es nur empfehlen!

Wir waren Freitags da, zum BBQ Abend. Sehr sehr leckere Gerichte, es hat allen sehr geschmeckt. Das Ambiente und das Personal waren sehr angenehm. Ein echter Geheimtipp, denn obwohl wir aus der Region kommen wussten wir nicht, dass man dort so gut essen kann.

Wir hatten nur die Bratwurst und das Röstel außerhalb auf die Hand mit Getränken, aber hier war fast nichts auszusetzen. Einzig das Fleisch hätte etwas zarter sein können. Für einen Besuch des Schlosses als Stärkung allemal gut geeignet. Preislich auch ok.

Diese Location war für uns eine echte Überraschung. Nicht nur die tolle Atmosphäre des umliegenden Schlosses und dessen Parkanlage sondern auch das Café Altenstein konnten uns vollends überzeugen. Hervorragendes Essen mit sehr fairen Preisen. Eine tolle Karte und sehr freundlicher und zuvorkommender Service haben uns nicht weniger überzeugt als die wunderschönen Location mit luxuriös anmutendem Ambiente. Immer wieder gerne.

Wir haben die Lokalität zum Ostersonntag spontan besucht. Obwohl das Restaurant nahezu ausgebucht war, machte man es möglich, dass wir trotzdem dort essen konnten. Das nenne ich Service! Im übrigen war das Essen sehr lecker. Preis-Leistung stimmt dort absolut!

Eis und Kaffee waren ok. Aber Bedienungen wirkten unprofessionell, überfordert und genervt. Lange Wartezeiten.

Freundliche Bedienung, leckeres Essen, faire Preise, kurz gesagt: Da kann man nix verkehrt machen ! Ein Besuch lohnt immer!

Das Café Altenstein haben wir nur kurz besucht um eine kleine Verschnaufpause zu machen und etwas zu trinken. Die Bedienung war auf jeden Fall sehr freundlich. Auch die Sauberkeit im und um das Café war bestens. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder wenn wir wieder Vorort sind.

Wir sind spontan bei einem Spaziergang im Biergarten des Cafés eingekehrt. Das Personal war freundlich und nicht zu aufdringlich. Das Bier hätte besser gekühlt sein können. Gefühlt hatte es nur Zimmertemperatur.

War zum Burger Essen dort und war zufrieden, Ambiente ist nett, Personal sehr freundlich und fix in der Bedienung. Bier war gut kalt und das Essen warm.

Wenn man nicht von der Würstchenbude abgeschreckt wurde und die Gaststätte betritt, wundert man sich über ein stylisches gemütliches Ambiente. Sehr gutes Essen. Schade nur, dass draußen keine Werbung zu finden ist und wir rein zufällig die Tür öffneten.

Nachdem so einiges schlechtes geschrieben wurde, war ich sehr gespannt was mich erwartet. Es war eine gepflegte Gaststätte, unser Kellner war auf Zack und mit meinem Essen war ich auch zufrieden. Ein selbstgemachtes Schnitzel findet man leider nicht überall. Andere am Tisch waren leider nicht so überzeugt von ihrem Essen. Sehr schade fand ich es,das sich die Lokalität "Café" nennt, aber überhaupt keinen Kuchen und keine Süßspeisen anbietet🤷 Ansonsten kann man wunderbar verweilen im Schloss Park.

Auf Grund von teilweise nicht so guten Bewertungen haben wir das Lokal mit gemischten Gefühlen besucht. Unsere Bedenken wurden aber in keinster Weise bestätigt. Im Gegenteil: ein überaus freundliches Personal, hervoragendes Essen zu einem verhältnismäßig gutem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis haben uns überzeugt. Die Tische waren wegen Corona in einem großen Abstand und es war das erste Lokal, das im Gastraum einen viralen Luftfilter aufgestellt hatte., das wir besucht haben Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und können das Lokal jederzeit empfehlen.

Die drei Sterne gebe ich ausschließlich für die Bratwurst. Ansonsten hatte die Gaststätte Stil. Aber eben leider schlechten Stil. Verschiedene Getränke ausverkauft hieß es von der sichtlich überforderten Bedienung. Das Essen ohne Geschmack und teilweise lauwarm. Selbst Salz- und Pefferstreuer fand die Bedienung zunächst nirgendwo. Dann waren sie gefunden aber leer. Auf die Sauberkeit und die Toiletten gehe lieber nicht näher ein. UNTERIRDISCH muss reichen.

Schöne Erholungsmöglichkeit nach einer Wanderung durch den Park. Bedienung aber nur nach Zuruf. Dauert auch, bis dann das Bestellte kommt. Bratwurst vom Grill empfehlenswert.
