Burgschänke Restaurant & Hotel in Kaiserslautern

I had requested a quiet room in advance via email and, according to the hotel, received one in the main building (Room 4). Unfortunately, this room was right next to the stairs, and in addition, the window couldn't be opened at 28°C because there was a wasp nest right in front of it. After immediately contacting the friendly staff, I was assigned Room 1 in the main building, one floor below. Unfortunately, this room was also right next to the stairs – and the entrance to the restaurant's restrooms is nearby, which was further disruptive both acoustically and due to the constant coming and going. My stay was significantly disrupted by nighttime noise in the stairwell (sometimes until 4 a.m.), loud slamming doors, and noise from the beer garden. A restful sleep was impossible. Furthermore, I felt the room was not reasonably priced for its size and noisy location – in my opinion, the price-performance ratio is not good. Positive highlights: • Cleanliness: impeccable! • Staff: very friendly • Location: generally quiet • Dinner: excellent Conclusion: Unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy my stay as desired, as quiet accommodations were not guaranteed despite prior arrangements.

We spent a long weekend at the Burgschänke with our four-man motorcycle group. Everyone was thrilled with the super-friendly service, caretaker, and other staff. The food was quick and absolutely delicious.

I've always loved the Burgschänke, and we originally wanted to celebrate our wedding there. When my little one was going to be baptized, we went there to ask if it was possible to celebrate there. However, you have to reach a budget of €500.00 for one room and €1000.00 for the other. We had discussed everything, but the employee hadn't told us this information. The next day we went back, and the boss was there, and he said that he had seen everything yesterday and that the employee hadn't told us. Now I'm wondering why the boss doesn't think it's necessary to come right away and clarify things! Therefore, the Burgschänke is no longer an option for us, neither for our wedding nor for a spontaneous dinner.

Unfortunately, no, absolute chaos. The waiter runs the restaurant and hotel guests, which works very poorly when the hotel is full... Upon arrival, the bed wasn't made. So, basically, I found a used bed. They supposedly wanted to fix it while we were eating. Of course, that didn't happen. I had to bring it up again... Well, a filthy place... absolutely not worth the money...

Had a dinner event here with a buffet setup. Unfortunately after paying 70 euro the food was mostly gone by the time I got through the line. The service was slow and couldn't order drinks from the bar. The worst part is after already paying for drinks at the end I was accused of trying to leave without paying. Beautiful building and location but the service is terrible and employees are rude.

Rooms are okay, but overpriced; the restaurant staff mostly spoke broken German—which led to our incorrect orders. The rump steak was excellent, the salad bar less so. Convenient for motorcyclists due to the location and large parking lot.

Apart from a few minor issues, it was a great stay. The food was delicious and plentiful. Unfortunately, we were a little unlucky, as a non-German group was staying at the same time and they couldn't behave. We'd be happy to come back; highly recommended.

A quaint restaurant in an old half-timbered house with delicious food. The ox cheeks with potato gratin and the salmon in a Parmesan crust were incredibly tasty. The creme brulee is especially recommended; it's simply delicious.

I received a very friendly welcome from the staff on site. They explained to me where I could park and showed me how to get there. The food was very tasty. I had roast. Very good. Drinks came very quickly after ordering. Despite the restaurant being full, I didn't have the feeling that the employees were stressed. I'd love to come back. I can't say anything about the rooms.

We had a Christmas work party in the restaurant. We were able to all eat in a private room. Everything was well organized and they made sure everyone was taken care of in a timely manner. Would recommend for big groups or just for a nice dinner out!

My room was situated in across the street, across from the restaurant itself. The mattress was terrible and I also only had one pillow. The pillow definitely needed to be replaced, as it was very flat. The blanket also only took up half of the mattress-basically a twin sized blanket. No full size towels when I arrived. Second night I got sick from some sort of bacterial infection which wasn't surprising as the hotel room didn't feel very clean. Definitely a dingy hotel, and would 100% recommend staying somewhere else.

This is a must stay hotel. The room and board is clean, spacious, comfortable. The restaurant is some of the best German dishes I had during my time in Germany. Venison stew, beef filet, everything was perfect. No need to go anywhere else for food. And the ambiance is warm and cozy, especially during the winter months. The area is nice with hiking trails and castle ruins in the backyard. I hope to return to Hotel Burgschänke again during mushroom hunting season.

We came to eat dinner. Amazing, we shared a taste of our entrees so I was able to sample the lamb, ratatouille, au gratin potatoes, their spatzel, goulash, and steak. Everything, was amazing. Will definitely be making this my new favorite.

I dinned at Burgschänke just yesterday, and it was fantastic from start to finish. The cozy, rustic atmosphere made it feel so welcoming, and every dish was beautifully prepared with fresh, top-quality ingredients. The real standout, though, was our server a friendly, attentive young Asian gentleman who provided excellent service throughout the meal. Even though I was a bit disappointed that the Dry-Aged option wasn't available, his professionalism and warm attitude made up for it and really added to the experience.

We celebrated our wedding in the Burgschänke on a Saturday and thought the day was wonderful. The ambience suited the Burgschänke and our wishes very well. The lunch menu was delicious and was also praised by all our guests, particularly the Jägerschnitzel, the Cordon Bleu and the rump steak. There were also vegetarian dishes to choose from. Depending on the dish you chose, there was a lavish self-service salad bar. In the afternoon coffee was served à la carte, which was also very tasty.  In the evening there was a cheese board with bread on the agenda, which unfortunately was empty far too quickly. But we are also good cheese eaters. It should be praised that supplies were still provided. During this time we had a service employee as a permanent contact person as well as around 2 other waitresses, all of whom were very attentive and with whom we felt comfortable. We discussed all the details with Ms. Schwarzmüller in advance and our wishes were always taken into account. There was never any doubt that the celebration would be aimed at our complete satisfaction.

We were able to celebrate our wedding in a beautifully prepared room at the back of the Burgschänke. The staff and service were TOP! The room is reminiscent of an old knight's hall, which we really liked. We were very well supported in planning from the start and all of our wishes were fulfilled to our complete satisfaction. We got married last week at the Burgschänke and it was just perfect! Great service from Malik, great food, first class drinks and all at a fair price. The celebration lasted until the early hours of the morning and we couldn't have imagined a better place for our special day. Absolutely recommended!

We stayed in the Burgschäncke hotel for 30 days when we first arrived in Germany in 2021. Our room was large, almost apartment sized, and even had a kitchen to cook in. We enjoy the restaurant each year on the anniversary of our time in Germany. It has a special place for us and we always love coming back to eat the best cheesy spätzle and schnitzel. The area of Hohenecken-Kaiserslautern is nice and the hotel/restaurant itself has plenty of parking around. Of course a hike up to the Burg Hohenecken is convenient as the trail starts right behind the hotel!

Very nice restaurant, you can eat well, there is something for everyone. The menu could maybe get a few more new menus or replace the old ones. It's just an idea. Otherwise everything is good.

Pleasant culinary experience in a historical ambience. The service is friendly and courteous, although it could sometimes be a little more attentive and quick. The food impresses with its good taste. A small downside, however, is the portion size. If you have a big appetite, you might be a little disappointed here.

On Saturday we celebrated our wedding in the Burgschänke and were thrilled. We were able to implement everything we had planned. We were even provided with a table football table. Setting up a photo box and a candy bar was no problem. There was also room for the DJ. The service that evening was outstanding. Super friendly and very attentive. This also applies to the kitchen staff, who helped distribute the buffet. The food was plentiful and, above all, super tasty. Our guests were also thrilled. We couldn't have imagined a better location for our wedding celebration.

We only stayed one but the beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean. The breakfast was delicious and they had very good coffee.

We stayed in the former nurses' house for one night on June 30, 2024. The rooms were very clean and nicely located. Breakfast top. Booked 1 family room and 2 single rooms.

We really enjoyed the relaxing quiet in the evening on the small terrace next to the room. You sit right in the countryside. The breakfast is very rich and the fresh baked goods couldn't be better. Very friendly staff. Overall, highly recommended.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Burgshanke Hotel. From start to finish the service was great. When we arrived, jet lagged and much earlier than check in, they moved reservations around in order to let us check in early so we could sleep. We were only inquiring when check in was so it was a very pleasant surprise when they accommodated us early. Even in our exhausted state we could see how quaint and charming the hotel and it's surroundings were. Once we rested up we were in awe of our location at the bottom of a wisteria lined, cobblestone street leading to beautiful old churches and ancient castle ruins. It was right out of a fairy tale for us Americans! Our room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. Two things were different than we are use to in the US. The bed had a wooden divider down the middle so maybe not ideal for newlyweds but it was completely fine for us. We found the mattresses to be very comfortable. Also the shower curtain was too narrow for the shower making it hard not to get the floor all wet but the shower itself had great water pressure and a wand so we were happy. We ate dinner at the restaurant our first night and enjoyed it very much on the outdoor patio. We also loved the continental breakfast every morning especially the coffee, rolls, yogurt (with many toppings) and eggs. We found all the food to be good quality. The hotel staff spoke English well enough to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall it was one of the best places we've ever stayed. Highly recommend.

During our visit yesterday for our son's communion celebration, we had an unforgettable day at the Burgschänke. From the beginning to the moment we left, we were warmly welcomed and looked after by an exceptional team. The service was impeccable and always attentive. Every guest really enjoyed the menu and the dishes and our guests' individual requests were also taken into account. Delicious, authentic, homemade German cuisine at its finest. We had the seasonal Spargel (white asparagus) soup, a crispy chicken salad, and beef goulash with spaetzle (egg noodles). The soup was served with bread and was simple, buttery but tasty. The salad had a homemade dressing that I could probably drink in a glass by itself. I typically don't like chicken breast as it's usually dry, but the meat was tender and juicy. The breading was light and crunchy and never got soggy. My wife had the goulash and said "it was pretty good". I've never seen her lick a plate in public. We'll definitely be back.

Pleasant surprise for a one night stay for a work trip!

Addendum: Yesterday we visited you again for a celebration (approx. 21 guests). The service and quality of the dishes were an absolute disaster! A "small menu" was set in advance. However, you only had a low number of guests of around 15 guests during the entire period. The champagne reception was very disorganized and not set up at the scheduled time. The starters such as: Bruschetta was topped with canned tomatoes and not fresh ones, cheekiness and the broth was a fix product. The main courses were served at different times despite demand. Some guests, including children, only received their food after 2.5 hours, which is too long for children. If you wanted a drink you often had to go to the waiter and point it out. What was praiseworthy is the rump steak, salad buffet and garlic soup. A few guests also noticed that an acquaintance of the boss was probably there. Since the waiters were talking about how the guest could order as much without paying, it unfortunately gave us the impression that he was more satisfied than our group. All guests should receive equal priorities in terms of quality and services. I find it outrageous because you pay a lot of money and want to spend a nice day with your guests. It's a shame...We all definitely won't recommend them. December 2023 We were there for dinner a few days ago with a small group. Despite reservations, everything seemed very disorganized and was changed several times. The staff was very annoyed and unfriendly. The expensive steak wasn't particularly tasty, but it was exactly the desired level of doneness. The side dishes were a bit too few.
