BUDDELS Gasthaus & Weinbar - Hamburg in Hamburg

Another delicious lunch (see pictures). Take bus line 6 to the Hafencity, the final stop, Auf dem Sande, and then head over to Deichstraße to the cozy BUDDELS restaurant and wine bar for wine and cheese, tartar, etc. A variety of delicious options are available. A cozy evening with a delicious goose dinner with red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, dumplings, boiled potatoes, sauce, and the HELBING caraway from Hamburg was also included (see picture). The service team was, as usual, extremely friendly and attentive; an all-around successful evening. It was once again delicious, cozy, and overall a pleasant experience at Restaurant Buddels - Deichstraße 37. A delicious, changing lunch menu every week. The evening menu also offers a very good, highly recommended selection, along with the beautiful rooms in the listed building on the first and second floors, which are used for groups, meetings, and weddings, among other things. The beautiful, flexibly furnished restaurant is also available for private parties. A pleasant evening with good wine, delicious bread, a small selection of regional cheeses, fig mustard, nut and Holstein sausages with bread and butter (see photos). It was another great lunch break at BUDDELS. Not only was there a very good lunch menu, but the dinner menu is equally high quality and always a surprise in how it's presented. Today it was a delicious currywurst with special fries. The staff is always very friendly and attentive, so it's a given that we'll be back. Perhaps the autumn specials include cheese fondue for two people or goose dinner for four people.

A very cozy wine bar with a lovely atmosphere. The outdoor seating has a beautiful view, perfect for a relaxing evening. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful - definitely a place I’d come back to!

Very pleasant in every way. We had our lunch break at this restaurant; the burgers are excellent, the food and ingredients are of high quality, a real pleasure. And when the service matches, it's 5 stars. We ate on the terrace, but don't hesitate to go inside; the interior is worth the detour.

Tried their lunch menu and it was very good at reasonable prices. Tried the white asparagus which is currently in season. The asparagus was cleverly mixed with potatoes. The sauce complimented it very well. Has one with beef and another with burrata. Completed the lunch with a affogato which was also very good.

The building is beautiful and the atmosphere is great. The wine selection is great and the staff knows how to pair what you like with the food. Food was excellent!

The wine, food and atmosphere was very good. Coffee was forgotten by the waitress, so we had to remind her. Payment process was quite confusing and we have only realized we would have been ripped off, once we exited the restaurant, if we didn’t ask for clarifications. When we asked for the bill, waitress came by with a payment terminal directly (in a fast-paced environment after a good dinner one is likely not to notice no invoice has been provided). We have requested to split the bill equally 3 ways, and the waitress asked us to divide 154 euros by 3. Once 2 of us have paid their share including tips, payment terminal was slow, which allowed us to realize no invoice was provided and overall number seemed higher than expected by around 40 euros. We have requested the invoice, which waitress provided later on and also let us know the third person doesn’t need to pay anything, because the invoice has been covered by the 2 persons. The printed sum on the provided invoice was 110 euros.. It could have been a misunderstanding, or was an attemp to be portrayed as such.

I love it and always like to come back. Such a nice restaurant, the service is always friendly and accommodating. Perfect for a great lunch or in the evening with a glass of wine. Lunch is priced according to the environment, but in the evening it is a bit more expensive.

Awesome atmosphere and the service is very attentive, "Flammkuchen" was okay but also underwhemling, go for their seasonal specials to get a true sense of what the kitchen has to offer.

We were at Buddels with a group of 45 people. It was a fantastic, culinary evening. The food was excellent, the service attentive, friendly, and fast. The atmosphere was fantastic. We'd love to come back!

I went to 'Buddels' because of the wine list... and I wasn't disappointed. The sommeliers know what's on the menu and can make sensible recommendations. The food on the first evening was well (tarte flambée, I've heard that it's supposed to be good now), but on the following evenings it was very, very tasty. Small card and well made. The 'ox cheek' is a starter and main course in one piece of meat, unfortunately delicious. I have been there four times and will recommend it and visit it myself.

The younger lady who served us was extremely polite and friendly. She really made the whole experience nicer. However, the slightly older waitress stood out negatively - she seemed like a classic unmotivated employee who gave the impression that the guests were more of a burden. Perhaps the older employees could be inspired by the younger colleague to show more passion and friendliness in customer service.

As already stated, everything was great. I found the dining room at the top with the double tables between guests uncomfortable. All four sides of the Construction were far too far from each other and guests couldn't really communicate with each other.

Very nice place! The veal cheeks were also excellent. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes were smeared all over the plate, which meant that the mashed potatoes and the five strips of salsify were cold. I got the last non-alcoholic beer, water and rhubarb spritzer were the alternative on a Tuesday evening. The snippy waitress had little sympathy for us.

Ich war gerade zum Nachtessen hier und bin echt mehr als nur ein bisschen angetan vom Essen und vom Service! Die Makrele welche ich zur Vorspeise hatte war extrem Lecker, weshalb ich vermute hatte, dass Matjes als Hauptgang nur knapp wũrde mithalten können, aber auch die waren extrem Lecker. Die Portionengrösse ist perfekt (für mich fast etwas zu viel) der Preis mega (für mich als Schweizerin schon überraschend preiswert). Der Service war nicht nur sehr freundlich, sondern so vorausschauend aufmerksam, dass wir vor den ersten Regentropfen und die Tische drinnen alle besetzt waren, einen Umzug ins Restaurant bekamen. Herzlichen Dank, Euch empfehle ich sehr gerne weiter!

I am vegan and gluten free and dinner here was amazing. The food had a great texture and interesting flavor. I will try to replicate at home, because was really delicious. Staff is knowledgeable about their dishes and allergies. A special thank you to Filipe (not sure if it is the way I write your name) it is very professional and talented at his work. When people love what they do you can feel it. (Хвала вам / Hvala vam) The environment is very cozy and clean. For sure a place to come back on my next trip to Hamburg.

Recientemente cené en Buddels. Empecé con una ensalada de espárragos fresca y deliciosa. Para el plato principal, pedí un fletán con almejas y puré de zanahoria que era sabroso. Los precios están en el extremo más alto, pero las porciones son generosas. El servicio fue amable y atento. Este es un gran lugar para disfrutar de una comida.

Very nice location not far from the Speicherstadt. Small menu with seasonal and regional ingredients, large wine list with smaller wineries and lots of biodynamics. The Buddels invites you to both a quick lunch and a cozy evening with lots of little things and a bottle or two. The service is relaxed and attentive but not intrusive. Definitely a recommendation for tourists and locals!

It was our very first restaurant in Hamburg, and it was an absolutely amazing experience! The food was an intriguing melange of both traditional and modern cuisine, while the wine offer was wide and very interesting. The atmosphere couldn’t have been better, with our table facing the canal, but the experience wouldn’t have been the same without Lara, our lovely waitress who has given us nothing but excellent recommendations - I personally loved the strawberry-pistachio pie!

The food was good, my steak was somewhat tough, was expecting a tender cut, and it wasn’t. For the price of the plate not expected. The restaurant is beautiful and simple inside. Potatoes and asparagus were delicious!

This was our second time at Buddels and we were really looking forward to the evening. Unfortunately, the experience was not like our first visit. When ordering there was the first challenge: we asked if it was possible to order another dish separately. We were then told that the plates were already so full that it wouldn't fit anymore. Nevertheless, people asked and the food was simply served on a separate plate, which only makes sense. When asked whether you could also order the starter as a main course, the answer was: you can, but the portion won't be any larger. Here I don't understand the problem of simply making the portion a little bigger (the price will of course be adjusted) instead of giving such an inappropriate answer. Then we wanted to order bread and salt, whereupon we were told that the bread would come with the starters anyway. After what felt like 20 minutes of waiting and almost starving, the bread and starters finally arrived. After the main course we didn't see our waitress at all because she preferred to busy herself with the other guests. And this had nothing to do with the store being full. The occupancy was very low for a Friday evening. There were also 7 of us sitting in the back part of the restaurant, all alone, where you can forget each other... After we continued to be ignored, we angrily asked for the bill. All in all, this stay was unfortunately a total disappointment. The menu is very small, which is very good, but when 60% of the dishes are asparagus and 2 are vegetarian, the selection is rather poor. The price-performance ratio is also not suitable. What a shame!

Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere

The restaurant is located on the idyllic Deichstrasse in a wonderfully restored house. The interior is very cozy and invites you to spend hours of enjoyment. The "cheese from the region" we chose was very tasty and very rich (almost too rich...). Plus crusty bread, wonderful. We also had a “goat” tarte flambée; Anyone who thinks that tarte flambée is tarte flambée will be proven wrong here. Very tasty and also a large portion. The wine list is very extensive. But the only point of criticism at this point: If none of the three selected wines are available anymore (because they have all been drunk), then the wine list definitely needs an urgent revision. But we still had an excellent Savigny-Les-Beaune, which helped overcome the small disappointment. The service was very competent, friendly and very attentive. We felt very comfortable and say “thank you very much”.

The atmosphere in the Buddels is really very nice. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and benefits from the historic building. There were four of us at dinner and three people ate the Odefey pastured chicken in two courses because we had already read in advance about the special nature of this chicken. The fourth person only had one main course: asparagus with salmon. The first course of pastured chicken was served as saltimbocca with polenta and jus. The second course came as a fricassee. Now my criticism: Unfortunately it took an extremely long time from ordering to the first course - around 45 minutes. That was long but still acceptable. Unfortunately, the second course took just as long to arrive. That's far too long and means that the person who only had one main course didn't get anything to eat for an hour and a half. Because the asparagus was only served with the second course of pastured chicken. Even if the restaurant was very full for a Monday evening, that's not possible. If necessary, something would have been enough to bridge the time. Well-intentioned, I'm only deducting one star for this waiting time, as the service was still very nice and attentive. There is actually another star deduction for the quality and composition of the pastured chicken. The specialness of the chicken was completely overpowered by the intensity of the ham and sage. That's really a shame and the menu is far too expensive for that. In addition, the chicken was very dry. Choosing skinless breast for saltimbocca is probably not the best idea. The menu price leads you to expect a lot more overall. The fricassee was better. It was a modern and very high-quality interpretation of the classic. Unfortunately, two factors came together during our visit, each leading to a star deduction. As a result, I only get three stars.

Delicious food, great service. However, the selection on the menu is really very limited. Without a starter or dessert, we made a good and also the cheapest choice at Buddels with the rocket tarte flambée (€17). All other dishes start at €20 and up. Otherwise, Buddels lives up to its name as a wine bar with an extensive drinks and wine list.

Historical building. Good selection of wines. Friendly service. I recommend making a reservation, as there are a lot of tourists there on certain days (as in all restaurants on Deichstrasse).

Beautifully furnished inn with a small menu and large selection of wines. However, in a wine bar I would also like and expect more off-dry and a few sweet wines. The service staff (otherwise very attentive and friendly) should also know more about the wines and be able to give advice. The dishes can't quite keep what their prices promise. The braised beef cheek was a large piece, but quite firm and heavily streaked with fat. The sparse side dishes were nicely presented but were served almost cold. The salmon was good, but you can get it just as good elsewhere but cheaper. Still definitely worth a visit.

Friendly service, good food and drinks, although you need a main course and dessert/starter to fill you up. A star deduction for the vanilla ice cream on the Kaiserschmarrn, the duck was juicy and cross.

The location is very nice. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio of the menu is not right. Very expensive and the quality does not match the price. It's a shame because the staff is very nice and polite. Maybe the dishes should be reconsidered.

Very nice location... fast and friendly service, good food and excellent wines

Travelling Hamburg we had the chance to "compare" two restaurants nearly next door - this is about the "Buddels". In a few words: hanseatic hospitality (not too many emotions visible), balance between price and quality a little bit towards the prices (but not overprized!), unique atmosphere in this historic 2 floors building. food with focus on local ingredients - interesting combinations, for our impression a few squiggles. Both fish dishes came not hot, but were immediately retaken and reheated. The explanation was that this fish is usually served not too hot ... well ... we just like it that the food remains at some temperature until we have finished. Nevertheless - as we wrote above - we were able to have two experiences: We think both are definetly worth a visit!

We were there for the first time with the Christmas party as an occasion. We were warmly welcomed and the staff were attentive and informative with drinks. The pre-ordered meal (starter, main course, dessert) went smoothly. My personal choice was dishes that I either didn't cook myself or didn't know about in the combination. Kale salad (with pear/beetroot/hazelnut) Sea trout (FlowerSprouts/mashed potatoes/licorice) Chocolate slices (vanilla/fruit) The dessert was more of a Christmas gingerbread slice (quite dry) with vanilla ice cream and berry topping. The starter and main course were super tasty and really great combinations! The service, apart from one who looked a bit grim (probably not her day), was all really attentive and patient! The team gave us a great, delicious and fun evening - thank you very much, keep it up!

Wir gehen seit Jahren sehr gerne ins Buddels. Leider bin ich nicht so oft in Hamburg und somit sind es wenige Besuche pro Jahr. Die Qualität und der Geschmack der verwendeten Produkte sowie die Kreativität des Kochs bei der Anrichtung und die Wein-Empfehlung zum ausgewählten Gericht sind bei jedem Besuch hervorragend. Wir freuen uns schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch.

Ich war jetzt ein paar Mal im Buddels. Ambiente, Service und Weinkarte sind top und auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert. Allerdings war das Manko bei jedem Besuch immer das Essen. Und das schlägt leider stark auf die Gesamtwertung. Es ist preislich höher angesetzt, was erstmal ok ist, wenn der Rest stimmen würde. Die Portionsgröße kann sich noch nicht entscheiden ob es jetzt haute cuisine ist oder nicht. Die Zusammenstellung der Speisen ist es allerdings nicht, ebenso ist der Geschmack manchmal etwas underwhelming. Alles in Relation zum Preis natürlich. Wenn hier nochmal an dem Speisenkonzept gedreht wird, würde ich auch wiederkommen, aber so war das erstmal der letzte Besuch für mich.
