Brunnwart in München

During our four-day stay, we ate at the Brunnwart restaurant two evenings because we were so impressed. Not only is the food highly recommended (a typical Bavarian menu), but the service is also extremely competent and extremely friendly. There's a children's menu for the kids, including typical Bavarian dishes. Our 1 1/2-year-old son had a blast here. The restaurant also has a quiet, beautiful beer garden with an adjacent playground. A real recommendation for families. We'll definitely be back!

Wonderful place with excellent price-performance ratio

We had a lovely Bavarian dinner at Brunnwart. Since it was a weeknight, the place felt relaxed and not too crowded. The beer garden was charming, beautifully lit with strings of lights, creating a warm atmosphere. We ordered Bavarian specialties – the pork knuckle and Nuremberg sausages – along with some tap beer. The drinks were good, and I especially enjoyed the refreshing lemonade-beer mix. While the food was as expected and not particularly outstanding, it was still satisfying. My 5-year-old daughter was delighted with a giant pretzel, and we all shared the daily special – Kaiserschmarrn flambéed with raisins and almonds, served with apple sauce. The portion was generous, more like a main course than a dessert.

Visited this afternoon in bright sunshine. We've known this restaurant since 1980, as our office was next door, and we were there often back then. Much less frequently in recent decades. The food was mediocre, and the service was well-matched to the standard of service. The prices are comparable to those at the Freisinger Hof or the Aumeister Terrasse, but the quality is miles away. Not our place anymore.

We stopped by on a whim and still got a table, a polite waiter, and a delicious knuckle of pork! Only the overly loud, inappropriate music spoiled the otherwise good impression.

Thursday evening at 7 p.m. The two of us were waiting at the entrance to the Brunnwart restaurant in front of a sign saying to be patient, as we'd be seated in the beer garden. There were numerous empty tables scattered throughout the beer garden! One waitress was bringing the food to the tables, another was taking the cash. There were a few more men setting the tables, but they didn't take any notice of us. We tried to contact the waitresses rushing by and were repeatedly told that only the cashier was in charge. She finally rushed over to us and said she unfortunately had to finish taking the cash. Our request to sit at an empty table and wait was declined. After standing in the heat for 12-15 minutes, we decided to leave. We've never experienced such poor service.

Delicious food and very friendly staff, the rooms are very cozy and the beer garden is also nice (when the weather cooperates)

Bavarian restaurant with great service! Had the roast pork with coleslaw and dumplings. Super delicious, the portion was just right. The food came quickly, and the staff was very friendly. When we were caught in the rain on our way out, they even offered us an umbrella. We were told we could return it the next day. But we returned it that same evening. A truly heartfelt gesture. Highly recommended!

On July 23, 2025, we were in Munich because our dog, who has a heart condition, was there for an examination and surgery. Shortly before our return home, we wanted to enjoy some truly delicious Bavarian food – and we hit the jackpot with the Brunnwart restaurant! As soon as we entered, we immediately felt welcome. The ambiance is cozy, traditional, yet modern, exactly what you'd expect from a Bavarian restaurant. The food far exceeded our expectations! Every dish was not only a visual delight, but also an absolute highlight in terms of taste. You can immediately tell that the food is cooked with love and high-quality ingredients. (See the pictures – they speak for themselves!) The service was warm, attentive, and very accommodating – we felt completely at home. For us, one thing is certain: The Brunnwart is a true gem in Munich and always worth a visit! We will definitely be back on our next visit. Thank you for this wonderful end to our stay! 🐾❤️

We've been to the beer garden several times, with very friendly service. We also enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and good food in the restaurant. We were impressed by the value for money.

The place was packed, but the food still came very quickly. The service was friendly and prompt. The food was delicious, and we thought it was very good value for money. We would come again. The beer garden also looks great.

Nice place, nearly decorated, good service, but … never ever have I eaten such a tasteless Schweinbraten … from the stale meat, over the artificial gravy to the chewy potatoe dumplings it was simply not worthwhile. Don’t think I’ll go back there …

Such a lovely quaint place to start our vacation in Germany. The staff was attentive and welcoming. The food was amazing. I highly recommend the warm red cabbage side dish. It pairs beautifully with any of the main entrees. We loved it!!

Brunnwart has the best pretzels and schnitzel hands down! If you have never had a real Laugenbrezel which uses a lye bath, you need to make sure to order one. For those visiting from the US that don’t speak German, it’s not an issue! The bad reviews are a complete lie and likely from people who want everything spoon fed. They have English menus and the staff speak English just fine. Be forewarned that Brunnwart is a smaller establishment and you might have to wait a few minutes to be seated which is standard almost everywhere. Shocker I know! If you have made it this far into my lengthy review then do yourself a favor and stop by on your next visit.

If the right chef is there, then yes... otherwise you might end up with apple strudel with béchamel sauce instead of vanilla sauce...

The food is good, the selection is adequate (few vegetarian dishes), prices are typical for the area, and service is fast and professional. The restaurant gets quite noisy (hence only 4 stars) when there are lots of guests. A lovely beer garden, which we couldn't use due to the weather. Reservations are recommended in case of bad weather.

A very cozy and typically Bavarian restaurant. The food is truly delicious and served relatively quickly. The staff is friendly and helpful. The seating is comfortable and inviting. Parking can sometimes be a bit tricky on busy days, requiring a search for a free space along the street, but you'll always find one.

Never again We've been going to the beer garden for 40 years. Sometimes for business, sometimes for pleasure. Today, for the first time, we noticed a sign saying we were being seated. The garden was half empty. We had to go back because we hadn't noticed it at first. So, first we went in, then we went out again. When asked why? The answer was: Because otherwise the waiters wouldn't know if the tables were clean and where new guests were sitting. We said that would lose the Bavarian coziness. Then we wouldn't feel comfortable. A beer garden thrives on "squeezing together." She said, "It's about clean tables." I said, "I'm about coziness." I asked, "And if that's why we stop coming?" The waitress replied—she seemed to be the boss—"Then so be it!" Well, then we'll have an empty beer garden with more clean tables. The boss later said business was great. Then everything's fine. The food was good, by the way, and so was the beer. As expected in a beer garden. But it was our last meal there. If we go to a beer garden, it has to be a beer garden.

I found the place by chance and ate here twice. Very tasty food and very good service thanks to ladies Lavinia and Oana.

Nothing special. The sirloin was dry and completely overcooked, even though we asked how it was done. The salad had a lot of wilted leaves; the freshness could have been improved. The service was okay, but not top-notch. No reason for a second visit.

We spontaneously dropped by Brunnwart without a reservation and received a very warm welcome. We were served promptly, and the food arrived less than 20 minutes later! We found it absolutely delicious, and the value for money is simply outstanding! Thank you so much!

Two of us spontaneously stopped by the beer garden for dinner one Saturday. The location, right next to the English Garden, is ideal. We got a table without any problems. The service was very prompt and friendly, and the drinks, in particular, arrived faster than you could blink. We had the roast pork and the hunter's plate with spaetzle, pork fillet, and creamed mushrooms. The roast pork was truly delicious, with tender meat and a well-seasoned sauce. The feedback on the hunter's plate was also nothing but positive. We would go back anytime.

Nothing special about what I ate here. The potatoes with schnitzel were heavy. We were a large group, and everyone complained that the potatoes weren't cooked well. I expected much more from Bavarian cuisine than I found here.

The restaurant is a fine example of Bavarian pub culture, although the frequency is already at the upper limit. The food was very good. Typical Bavarian cuisine, extensive menu, and plenty of choice. The service staff deserves special praise. Beautiful weather, a full house, and yet they weren't stressed or impatient; they were always clear, even if it would take a little longer for our food. Friendly, always making an effort to ensure that guests don't have to wait (e.g., we never had to wait to order a refill of drinks). Truly first-class; something like that is rare these days. I would make a reservation in the evening so you don't have to wait long, even though the business isn't small. Overall, I highly recommend it!

We ate at Brunnwart. I had roast pork with dumplings – unfortunately, the food was more cold than warm, and the roast itself was quite dry. The taste was okay, though. For dessert, we had apple strudel, which was really good and somewhat saved the whole thing. Overall, it was okay, but with a classic like roast pork, I expect more care in terms of temperature and preparation.

El lugar tiene grandes asientos al aire libre y ambiente fresco. El servicio fue horrible! Teníamos un camarero nuevo y era un desastre. Cuando le preguntamos qué recomendaría del menú, dijo que no lo sabía porque solo comía comida india. Pedimos un aperitivo de pretzel y vino el primer pretzel, y estaba frío y rancio. El segundo que trajo estaba caliente fuera del horno y era mucho mejor. Pedí el especial del martes que era un schnitzel que se suponía que tenía queso dentro y una corteza de pretzel. No era como el queso derretido. Era un montón de salsa de queso viscosa que salía. Las patatas eran increíbles. Pedimos un pedido para un amigo y luego decidimos pedir el postre que no tenía idea de lo que estaba hablando cuando hicimos cualquier pregunta sobre los postres. Cuando le preguntamos si el strudel de Apple se servía caliente, dijo que no todo estaba frío. Después de recibir una llamada que necesitaba para llevar a alguien al hospital le preguntamos si podía encajonar nuestro postre y traernos la orden de ir para que pudiéramos irnos. Dijo que no podían encajonar el postre y que no podíamos entender lo que seguía murmurando. Él sale con el postre preparado para llevar que estaba caliente después de todo lo que dijo que no sería y nunca trajo el pedido de comida para llevar que pedimos para nuestro amigo. Nunca había puesto la orden. Así que lo pone y tenemos que esperar más cuando tenemos prisa. No solo era un camarero terrible, sino que parecía que no tenían suficiente personal para el volumen de gente allí.

A nice evening with international colleagues. Luckily we got a table at short notice. Crowd mix of locals and tourists. Beer OK. Roast pork OK. Service friendly. For the fifth star, that special thing that would make me come back is missing. But otherwise solid German home cooking.

Unfortunately we didn't like the food. The pork knuckle was as if it had been warmed up, the skin was hard and tough. Fried potatoes only tasted like butter. The service was very good, the staff was very nice and on point. However, we will not be coming back.

The food tastes very good, Munich schnitzel is a dream!! Service is very friendly, always makes sure everything is ok. The beer garden is fantastic, with old chestnut trees. And now the minus point: you are not allowed to play cards in the inn, it is forbidden!! A great Bavarian inn where no nines are allowed...it's a shame that tradition was banned. Otherwise highly recommended!

Food was good but service ignored us and our empty drinks.

We came with our tour group therefore our meals were planned and we had an option of three items. The pork knuckle was delicious and the noodles with cheese and onion was very good but heavy for me. The salad and cabbage slaw that was served with the meal was delicious.

Service is always very friendly. Food very good and moderately priced. Drink prices are papal. Franziskaner wheat beer, non-alcoholic, €5.70. Hallelujah. God bless him.

We stayed overnight in Munich while passing through (living in Hamburg). Of course we (2 adults and 2 children) also wanted to try the typical classic Bavarian cuisine and got a recommendation from the hotel employee where we stayed. He hadn't promised too much. The inn with a beer garden is located in a quiet residential area, we really enjoyed the Bavarian cuisine and the service was very friendly and exemplary. The price/performance ratio was more than reasonable. Unfortunately there wasn't enough for a classic dessert because we were more than happy and full. Nevertheless, this inn deserves a full 5*. An absolute recommendation.

Parking situation is rather poor. But you are warmly welcomed, given a table, very attentive service, "special requests" are implemented easily,... familiar... The food has now become a bit more expensive, but the quality, processing, size of the portions (including meat) and the taste really leave nothing to be desired. The menu is clear, but there is something for everyone (including vegetarians). Conclusion: Very inexpensive => it is really worth the price! Very happy again!
