We went there for the first time in a long time. It was disappointing overall. The tarte flambée was so incredibly thin (I know it's supposed to be thin...but not like that) and it still wasn't cooked through. Unlike the next table, the waitress only paid attention to us when we made her notice. I found that very strange. She didn't ask if we wanted to order food, even though we had looked at the menu. After our meal, we wanted to have a coffee...she cleared the plates...and I just wanted to wait and see if she would ask something like, "Did you enjoy your meal?" or "Would you like to order anything else?" Then, just as she was about to turn around, I said that we would like to order something else. She actually rolled her eyes. I felt strange not leaving a tip this time, because I usually always do. Anyway...we always enjoyed going to Alex...but we hadn't been back since the renovation. Speaking of the renovation: It's a shame...too many mismatched chairs. That makes the otherwise lovely shop too busy. But that's a matter of taste.

The selection at the breakfast buffet was rather meager, and the rolls were unfortunately inedible. €25 for a single roll (I couldn't eat any more because, as I said, they were inedible) plus some cold cuts, a fried egg, and a cappuccino seems a bit overpriced to me.

The bruschetta was very (!) delicious, the waffle could have been cooked a little more, but it was also tasty 😇 The atmosphere was also very nice and despite the size of the room (every table was occupied), it was still easy to have a conversation 👍🏼

There's definitely room for improvement... My girlfriend's food was cold, she sent it back and then had to wait another 20 minutes, and even then things weren't quite right...

I ordered coffee and a waffle, specifically requesting that they arrive together. The drink came after 5 minutes and the waffle after 30 minutes. By then, the drink was cold. Sure, it was busy (70% full), but if you can't manage it, just say so beforehand. The service was stressed but friendly, and the atmosphere was nice. Perhaps they should get more than one waffle iron?

On June 26, I was out and about in beautiful Bielefeld, and my lovely companion decided we should try ALEX. We were quickly greeted and given a nice spot in the sun. A little later, we were served in a friendly manner. The food was delicious and fresh. If it's "We're going to ALEX!" anytime soon, I'll definitely be there 👍

We had a Caesar salad with chicken breast and the Korean BBQ chicken. The salad was absolutely perfect for a salad in terms of size and amount of dressing, the chicken breast was perfectly seasoned, absolutely perfect. The BBQ chicken was a flavor explosion, the chicken skewer was perfectly seasoned, and the marinated red cabbage really won me over. There was a slight spiciness throughout the dish, but the lime sauce completely balanced it out. The service was simply super nice and friendly, and the food and drinks came quickly. I can only recommend this place to everyone.

I went there today with my boyfriend for lunch. I had the Caesar salad with chicken breast fillet. It was 10/10. Even though I don't eat spicy food, the baguette had chili on it, which I really enjoyed. It shows that the chef knows what he's doing. I'd love to go back!

We went to Alex for breakfast/brunch on a Sunday. First of all, the ambiance is really nice and well-maintained, but the prices are very high (€51 for two people, one hot drink each), which wouldn't be so bad if the quality of the food were also high. The rolls and the breakfast buffet are fine. The rolls aren't bakery rolls, but they're not cheap ready-made rolls either. The buffet was restocked irregularly, so there wasn't a large selection of cheese, and the fruit ran out quickly. Many dishes have a strange taste; for example, the cherry yogurt is creamy and very sweet, and the warm cherries with the pancakes are overly thickened. Unfortunately, the brunch buffet isn't entirely convincing either. The staff aren't particularly careful about cross-contamination. The dishes weren't labeled until the lack of labels was pointed out. For example, the pork steaks cooked in sauce are scooped out with the same spoon as the beef pieces. After I pointed this out to the staff, the waitress brought a spoon instead of tongs, which worked for a few minutes, but didn't last long because the guests then used them for the pork pieces. They couldn't place pork next to beef in that spot? Think through the setup! The roast beef pieces were also too dry, as the additional cooking time in the warming container hadn't been taken into account. The mini sausages were floating in an oil bath, which the chef noticed and rectified after I pointed it out. Overall, they use a lot of convenience products here, which isn't a bad thing in itself, but is unfair given the price level. Otherwise, the wait staff seem to care little about what the buffet looks like; there's a lot of chatter behind the counter, and the guests' well-being isn't regularly checked. There are many other things that bothered me about the buffet, but they would go beyond the scope of this review. Not recommended. We stopped in for a quick drink after 11 p.m. We ordered two identical cocktails, but the liqueur was forgotten for one of them, served with just water and no main ingredient. When we were offered the opportunity to correct this, the waiter reacted in an unbelievable manner, almost as if we were lying. I asked for the opportunity to try it, saying the other cocktail tasted as it should. We were waved off and, out of spite, a small shot glass of liqueur was brought to us, with the comment that we could replace it if we thought there was nothing in it. Afterward, both drinks tasted identical. But criticism and customer satisfaction look completely different. The right thing to do would be to take the drink and replace it. And the arrogant and condescending manner certainly won't let us return. A real shame!

I occasionally go to the breakfast buffet at ALEX in Bielefeld – and I love it every time! Compared to the buffet at Bernstein or Café Barcelona, ​​I find the value for money better here, and the selection is also a bit larger. We ate there on the evening of May 16, 2025. I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time. We ordered chicken and pork schnitzel. When they arrived, we were very frugal. Both schnitzels were very dark and, with the breading, maybe only 1 cm thick!!! The chicken schnitzel was undercooked in some places. They tasted like they had been fried and reheated in the microwave. The fried potatoes were colorless (no frying marks), floated in oil on the plate, and had a completely tasteless taste. The salad, in a tiny bowl, smelled rotten and tasted the same. When we asked about it, the waitress simply said "I'm sorry" and disappeared into the kitchen with the plates, not saying another word about our complaint. I then went to the restroom. Had I been there before ordering food, we would have left. We asked for the bill and were even made to pay for this garbage in full. We will definitely steer clear of this place on our next visit to Bielefeld!!!!!

We treated ourselves to the breakfast buffet. Various rolls and breads. Muesli, jams, honey, butter, margarine, sausages, salmon, sliced ​​cheese, salads, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, mini meatballs, fried bacon, quark, yogurt, fruit salad, hummus. Fresh ingredients were constantly being replenished, and we could serve ourselves. Drinks are an extra charge, and at €5.20 per coffee, it's not cheap, especially since the quality wasn't impressive. Drinks are a price increase. The service is friendly but rarely seen. The food selection was very varied and delicious. The decor is bright and pleasant.

On our last visit to Alex in Bielefeld, I opted for a classic schnitzel dish. The schnitzel itself tasted okay – nothing particularly refined, but solidly prepared. Unfortunately, the side dish, the fried potatoes, wasn't convincing. As can be clearly seen in the attached picture, these were less fried potatoes than pieces tossed in oil. They were very greasy, seemed more boiled than crispy, and lacked any of the roasted flavors you'd expect from real fried potatoes. Furthermore, the texture was somewhat mushy, which significantly diminished the overall impression of the dish. The ambience at Alex is pleasant as usual, and the service was friendly, but the quality of the food – at least for this dish – didn't live up to the standard you'd expect for such value. Conclusion: The schnitzel was okay, but the fried potatoes were a clear weak point. There's definitely room for improvement in the kitchen here.

Disappointing. I was at the new Alex on Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. The restaurant was not very busy and the staff stayed in the counter area. There was no approach or service whatsoever. After 25 minutes I left. There were strong smells of drains in the back area towards the toilet staircase.

The waitress walked past us a few times, but there was no time for a “good day” or at least a smile Since no one was looking after us, we took a seat at a free table. My wife ordered a chai and for brunch. I wasn't even asked and we had to get the young lady back so I could order too. She commented on this with: "I can't know!" Uh, no... where from? Although it wasn't crowded, full plates weren't cleared away and we were forced to place the stacks of plates on the empty neighboring tables. Paying was also a long process. At first it took a very long time until the young lady finally came back, then we were neither asked whether everything was okay nor whether it tasted good. We said goodbye with “everything is clear” after the payment process. But that could be better...

Leider sehr enttäuschend. Wir waren vom Alex in Paderborn immer begeistert und dachten, dass es in Bielefeld genauso gut ist. Weit gefehlt. Die Gemüsechips in der Bowl waren bei beiden, bestellten Bowls verkohlt und tot-fritiert. Die Nacho-Vorspeise bestand nicht aus Nacho-Chips sondern aus reinen Krümmeln, die man mit den Fingern gar nicht essen konnte. Und die Bratkartoffeln zum Schnitzel waren fast kalt. Wir sind sicherlich keine anspruchsvollen Gäste, aber das war nichts und hat uns statt einen schönen Tag abgerundet glatt verdorben.

I was at Café Alex when the weather was nice and was able to sit outside - that was really pleasant. The red velvet cake was a positive surprise: not too sweet and very tasty. The superfood latte was a real eye-catcher in terms of color and tasted good too. Overall, a quiet, relaxed visit with delicious cake and a lovely atmosphere.

Unfortunately, we were annoyed by too many smaller things. Despite the renovation, I wouldn't recommend the ALEX to good friends, Bielefeld definitely has better to offer! First of all: the food was really tasty for system catering and the cocktails were absolutely okay too! Biggest criticism: the service!! Apparently untrained, or at least poorly trained, staff stands at the table for minutes to enter the order into the mobile device after the order has been completed. You don't want to continue the conversation at the table because the waitress is still so close. The order came, and even a drink that wasn't ordered came. The waiter's comment was a flippant “oh sorry” (which we heard several times in the evening..) One dish was missing a component and when asked about it, nothing happened. When asked about it repeatedly, the aforementioned “oh sorry” is repeated, but again there is no attempt to make amends. Yes - we had finished eating but you could offer compensation (espresso on the house or something similar) if you were genuinely sorry. The complaint was simply ignored. Later, a waitress brought a still-dripping beer to the table and punished us with a very annoyed/reproachful look when we asked for a beer mat. The time management was also not optimal, the order often arrived very late, so that, for example, one drink was already half drunk when the other drinks arrived. There is simply a lack of routine here, but definitely a lack of professionalism on the part of the service staff. The renovation was really good for the ambience, it's just a shame that the smell problem on the way to the toilet couldn't be eliminated. Unfortunately, as soon as you leave the guest room, it smells strongly of urine. Unfortunately, there were things on the bill later that we hadn't eaten, but due to the various reasons mentioned and the response from the "service staff", we no longer wanted to discuss this when paying, as the staff obviously hadn't learned how to deal with criticism sensibly. Unfortunately, in the end there were so many little things (we would be happy to ignore the details) that we agreed when we left the Alex: we probably won't come back here again.

Was there with friends after the renovation. Mediocre service, poorly mixed cocktails. Very loud and uncomfortable. I used to go to Alex every now and then, but not anymore. There is a lack of love and heart. You can tell that the restaurant is only run for profit.

We had to ask the wait staff to clean the table, which was probably due to a lack of staff. Otherwise, the service was very attentive and good. Drinks and food were served within a pleasant wait time. The food was very tasty. After the renovation, the ambiance has really improved. Our only real criticism: having the main entrance door open all the time at this time of year, when it's still quite chilly in the evenings, isn't very pleasant for guests sitting directly in that area, as it creates a cold draft. Otherwise, we will definitely be back and are already looking forward to balmy evenings outside.

Incredible breakfast, ambience and very good service. Pleasant music plays constantly in the background and it's not too loud (although it was also quite empty). However, I would have liked descriptions or signage at the buffet so that you know exactly what kind of jam you are having, for example. Unfortunately, there are no vegan alternative products (i.e. salami, etc.), but I personally didn't miss them because I'm a vegetarian. The vegan selection is not particularly large. Still a top breakfast buffet/brunch!

The food was excellent! We've been there twice since the restaurant reopened and have been satisfied each time. Thanks to the improved soundproofing, it's now much quieter, and the ambiance deserves a solid 10/10.

Ordered 4 cocktails for €9.50 each Ipanema was way too acidic. Sex in the Beach only tasted like peaches and foam, no alcohol. 2 Pina colada lots of alcohol, but no milk/cream and tasted watery (see photo) I wouldn't pay €2 for it. Too bad

I generally really enjoy being here, especially sitting outside with a view of the old town. The price/performance ratio for the drinks is very good for the location, but the food varies a bit. Some things are very good, such as the tomato soup or waffles, but others are rather mixed and not appropriate for the price. With the bruschetta I find it, for example. B. It's a shame that no parmesan and very little rocket is used. That makes it rather bland for me. Because of the, in my opinion, rather inconsistent quality of the food and the somewhat long waiting times in places - especially if you sit outside - one star is deducted.
