I ordered the tomato salad. I got arugula salad with one tomato. After I complained, they told me that's what the recipe says. There's nothing they can do. Ridiculous.

A solid, honest chain bar with great value for money. Highly recommended if the other restaurants nearby ignore you or even turn you away because you just wanted a drink.

We ate there on the evening of May 16, 2025. I haven't had such a bad meal in a long time. We ordered chicken and pork schnitzel. When they arrived, we were very frugal. Both schnitzels were very dark and, with the breading, maybe only 1 cm thick!!! The chicken schnitzel was undercooked in some places. They tasted like they had been fried and reheated in the microwave. The fried potatoes were colorless (no frying marks), floated in oil on the plate, and had a completely tasteless taste. The salad, in a tiny bowl, smelled rotten and tasted the same. When we asked about it, the waitress simply said "I'm sorry" and disappeared into the kitchen with the plates, not saying another word about our complaint. I then went to the restroom. Had I been there before ordering food, we would have left. We asked for the bill and were even made to pay for this garbage in full. We will definitely steer clear of this place on our next visit to Bielefeld!!!!!

On our last visit to Alex in Bielefeld, I opted for a classic schnitzel dish. The schnitzel itself tasted okay – nothing particularly refined, but solidly prepared. Unfortunately, the side dish, the fried potatoes, wasn't convincing. As can be clearly seen in the attached picture, these were less fried potatoes than pieces tossed in oil. They were very greasy, seemed more boiled than crispy, and lacked any of the roasted flavors you'd expect from real fried potatoes. Furthermore, the texture was somewhat mushy, which significantly diminished the overall impression of the dish. The ambience at Alex is pleasant as usual, and the service was friendly, but the quality of the food – at least for this dish – didn't live up to the standard you'd expect for such value. Conclusion: The schnitzel was okay, but the fried potatoes were a clear weak point. There's definitely room for improvement in the kitchen here.

We treated ourselves to the breakfast buffet. Various rolls and breads. Muesli, jams, honey, butter, margarine, sausages, salmon, sliced ​​cheese, salads, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, mini meatballs, fried bacon, quark, yogurt, fruit salad, hummus. Fresh ingredients were constantly being replenished, and we could serve ourselves. Drinks are an extra charge, and at €5.20 per coffee, it's not cheap, especially since the quality wasn't impressive. Drinks are a price increase. The service is friendly but rarely seen. The food selection was very varied and delicious. The decor is bright and pleasant.

Disappointing. I was at the new Alex on Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. The restaurant was not very busy and the staff stayed in the counter area. There was no approach or service whatsoever. After 25 minutes I left. There were strong smells of drains in the back area towards the toilet staircase.

The ChaiLatte didn't taste like anything, the cafe was standard. After an hour we tried to pay, which wasn't easy as no one felt responsible. We haven't ordered anything else, from whom? Sad.. Update, from October 23, 2022 The brasserie has gone downhill! First we had to wait forever at the door. The waitress walked past us a few times, but there was no time for a “good day” or at least a smile Since no one was looking after us, we took a seat at a free table. My wife ordered a chai and for brunch. I wasn't even asked and we had to get the young lady back so I could order too. She commented on this with: "I can't know!" Uh, no... where from? Although it wasn't crowded, full plates weren't cleared away and we were forced to place the stacks of plates on the empty neighboring tables. Paying was also a long process. At first it took a very long time until the young lady finally came back, then we were neither asked whether everything was okay nor whether it tasted good. We said goodbye with “everything is clear” after the payment process. But that could be better...

Went here for brunch on Sunday. Were very satisfied. Would love to come back.

Leider sehr enttäuschend. Wir waren vom Alex in Paderborn immer begeistert und dachten, dass es in Bielefeld genauso gut ist. Weit gefehlt. Die Gemüsechips in der Bowl waren bei beiden, bestellten Bowls verkohlt und tot-fritiert. Die Nacho-Vorspeise bestand nicht aus Nacho-Chips sondern aus reinen Krümmeln, die man mit den Fingern gar nicht essen konnte. Und die Bratkartoffeln zum Schnitzel waren fast kalt. Wir sind sicherlich keine anspruchsvollen Gäste, aber das war nichts und hat uns statt einen schönen Tag abgerundet glatt verdorben.

Everything is great so far, In the case of the chicken bowl, the meat wasn't cooked through, but something new was made straight away without any problems, unfortunately not all of it was cooked through in the next one either. A little tip, the deep fryer definitely needs to be at a lower temperature so that the chicken nuggets can be baked well with this thick breading. If not, the breading is already brown and crispy, but the chicken isn't cooked through. Everything about the Thai Red Chicken Curry was great, except the side salad was nothing

I was at Café Alex when the weather was nice and was able to sit outside - that was really pleasant. The red velvet cake was a positive surprise: not too sweet and very tasty. The superfood latte was a real eye-catcher in terms of color and tasted good too. Overall, a quiet, relaxed visit with delicious cake and a lovely atmosphere.

Very tasty breakfast and the staff is extremely friendly and almost reads your wishes from your lips. Gladly again :)

So far I have always been a satisfied guest for many years. However, I must mention that one particular waitress (brunette with blonde highlights) is very judgmental, unfriendly and very inventive. Depending on your mood, you can get kicked out for no reason. Be careful of this operation. Everyone else is still friendly!

Unfortunately, we were annoyed by too many smaller things. Despite the renovation, I wouldn't recommend the ALEX to good friends, Bielefeld definitely has better to offer! First of all: the food was really tasty for system catering and the cocktails were absolutely okay too! Biggest criticism: the service!! Apparently untrained, or at least poorly trained, staff stands at the table for minutes to enter the order into the mobile device after the order has been completed. You don't want to continue the conversation at the table because the waitress is still so close. The order came, and even a drink that wasn't ordered came. The waiter's comment was a flippant “oh sorry” (which we heard several times in the evening..) One dish was missing a component and when asked about it, nothing happened. When asked about it repeatedly, the aforementioned “oh sorry” is repeated, but again there is no attempt to make amends. Yes - we had finished eating but you could offer compensation (espresso on the house or something similar) if you were genuinely sorry. The complaint was simply ignored. Later, a waitress brought a still-dripping beer to the table and punished us with a very annoyed/reproachful look when we asked for a beer mat. The time management was also not optimal, the order often arrived very late, so that, for example, one drink was already half drunk when the other drinks arrived. There is simply a lack of routine here, but definitely a lack of professionalism on the part of the service staff. The renovation was really good for the ambience, it's just a shame that the smell problem on the way to the toilet couldn't be eliminated. Unfortunately, as soon as you leave the guest room, it smells strongly of urine. Unfortunately, there were things on the bill later that we hadn't eaten, but due to the various reasons mentioned and the response from the "service staff", we no longer wanted to discuss this when paying, as the staff obviously hadn't learned how to deal with criticism sensibly. Unfortunately, in the end there were so many little things (we would be happy to ignore the details) that we agreed when we left the Alex: we probably won't come back here again.

Was there with friends after the renovation. Mediocre service, poorly mixed cocktails. Very loud and uncomfortable. I used to go to Alex every now and then, but not anymore. There is a lack of love and heart. You can tell that the restaurant is only run for profit.

We were a group of 6 people, everyone ordered a hot drink. We waited for an eternity, some drinks weren't even warm anymore, so they were rather unpleasant.

We had reserved a table, which unfortunately was still occupied at the reserved time. We had to wait a bit. It can happen. We had to ask the wait staff to clean the table, which was probably due to a lack of staff. Otherwise, the service was very attentive and good. Drinks and food were served within a pleasant wait time. The food was very tasty. After the renovation, the ambiance has really improved. Our only real criticism: having the main entrance door open all the time at this time of year, when it's still quite chilly in the evenings, isn't very pleasant for guests sitting directly in that area, as it creates a cold draft. Otherwise, we will definitely be back and are already looking forward to balmy evenings outside.

Incredible breakfast, ambience and very good service. Pleasant music plays constantly in the background and it's not too loud (although it was also quite empty). However, I would have liked descriptions or signage at the buffet so that you know exactly what kind of jam you are having, for example. Unfortunately, there are no vegan alternative products (i.e. salami, etc.), but I personally didn't miss them because I'm a vegetarian. The vegan selection is not particularly large. Still a top breakfast buffet/brunch!

The food was excellent! We've been there twice since the restaurant reopened and have been satisfied each time. Thanks to the improved soundproofing, it's now much quieter, and the ambiance deserves a solid 10/10.

Ordered 4 cocktails for €9.50 each Ipanema was way too acidic. Sex in the Beach only tasted like peaches and foam, no alcohol. 2 Pina colada lots of alcohol, but no milk/cream and tasted watery (see photo) I wouldn't pay €2 for it. Too bad

I generally really enjoy being here, especially sitting outside with a view of the old town. The price/performance ratio for the drinks is very good for the location, but the food varies a bit. Some things are very good, such as the tomato soup or waffles, but others are rather mixed and not appropriate for the price. With the bruschetta I find it, for example. B. It's a shame that no parmesan and very little rocket is used. That makes it rather bland for me. Because of the, in my opinion, rather inconsistent quality of the food and the somewhat long waiting times in places - especially if you sit outside - one star is deducted.

Breakfast buffet The buffet was simply great - a huge selection of hot and cold dishes that left nothing to be desired. Particularly positive: The eggs were fresh and not convenience products, which significantly increased the enjoyment. A small downside was that there was only one type of grain roll, but that's really just a minor thing compared to the otherwise excellent selection. Ambiance and service We were there at 9:00 a.m. and were able to enjoy the quiet ambience. After 10:00 a.m. it got a little louder, but the pleasant atmosphere remained. Particularly noteworthy is the friendliness and courteousness of the staff. My wish to sit slightly outside to avoid the crowd was fulfilled without any problems - that made the visit particularly pleasant for me. Conclusion The food was excellent, the service attentive, and the atmosphere pleasant. Except for the small limitation with the selection of rolls, it was a perfect experience. We give it five stars and would be happy to come back!

No alcohol sold despite ID and very unfriendly staff

Unfortunately very disappointed. Ordered pumpkin soup weeks ago and it was served cold. Didn't taste fresh! You want to support your Bielefeld gastronomy, but that's not possible. Been there again a few days ago and definitely won't go there again or recommend it to others.

We went there spontaneously on a Sunday morning without making a reservation in advance. That wasn't a problem though. However, the buffet wasn't fully set up at that time (9 a.m.), so we had to wait a while. The service was nice, although not very experienced. We had everything we needed for breakfast. However, we would have liked it to be explained to us that the dishes change and are gradually added to.

Today: there's hardly anything going on, two waiters are chilling at the counter and are overlooked several times when you wave to pay. We sat for about 20 minutes with empty plates and glasses, which originally became our reason for leaving. Ambience: after a certain time the lights simply dim and the music gets louder. During the week when you meet up with friends for dinner, it's stupid. It just gets louder. Other: Some of the men's toilets had not been cleaned by previous visitors and paper was missing. The staff has to be more on their toes and not chat so much at the counter. Too bad!

Not like it used to be. We used to often go there for breakfast and brunch. Now the breakfast buffet costs €16 and it was hardly refilled after 11:00 and you had to ask for everything. Scrambled eggs were cold, some of the fruit for fruit salad was still frozen! We've been waiting forever for something. That doesn't work at all. We'll go somewhere else from now on.

The scrambled eggs were the classic bagged scrambled eggs. Standard bacon and sausage - shame. Because you can get it everywhere else but cheaper. The selection was overall very good - but croquettes with imperial vegetables and pieces of meat with dark sauce are more likely to be found in a German restaurant. XXL milk coffee looks great. Unfortunately, it cools down far too quickly because there is too little coffee in it compared to the milk. We would come back if we had the chance, but we wouldn't come here specifically. The concept doesn't suit a brasserie.

I was there today with friends, unfortunately not a single vegan dish on the menu. Asking the waiter led to 'Bruschetta, probably, then it's going to be tight...' It's probably also with butter... I left. Here too, animal exploitation and climate protection are clearly of no interest to anyone. Conclusion: not up to date and not recommended if climate or animal welfare is important to you.
