Block House in Hamburg

I have been visiting this restaurant on each of my Hamburg trips for about two years. It's right next to the train station and you can then hop on the train straight away. The ambience is also a bit reminiscent of a train station restaurant and could be "refreshed" a bit. The menu offers the usual offerings (including seasonal highlights, e.g. during the asparagus season). The service is actually good, but a little more enthusiasm is needed, especially with the prices you have to pay!!!

The food and the staff are just great! We were only in Hamburg for 3 nights and after eating here on the first evening we knew; We have to go there again! The food was super delicious!

The food was good and what I liked best was the service. We had a very nice and friendly waiter. Thanks for the nice service. We looked outside in beautiful weather.

Very good meat dishes, but the French fries are on the level of McDonald's, and the delicious bread in the burger is only available under the patty, which is then softened by the juice of the meat.

Not a good attention to tourists

Employees have to work 14 hours 3 sometimes 4 days in a row. That is slavery in our modern world. Is that really normal? The food may taste good, but the people are so exploited. I'm thinking about whether someone can come and check it out. The double duty and everything else makes the work impossible.

The food was actually quite good, but the portion sizes were rather small! The waitress was totally unfriendly and made us wait ages to order. She left the food somewhere on the table for us, so we had to pick everything ourselves. She simply made the tartare sauce for us after 10 minutes, we didn't even know where it belonged! So my overall impression was not good!

Favorite Block House! Spacious, nice service, very good steaks, great salads. Lots of interesting guests passing through, as Hamburg Central Station is directly opposite.

Unfortunately a bitter disappointment for the second time. I don't need that anymore. You miss the quality of other locations in the chain. Too bad.

I took my wife to Blockhouse for the first time for her wedding anniversary. As usual, the food was outstanding (French onion soup and rib-eye master cut). But what I would particularly like to highlight for us was Isabella, the pearl of the house...It's rare to find such incredibly friendly and customer-oriented service these days. A gem among the service staff at BH (and I have visited many branches in Germany over the years). Unfortunately you can't give extra stars for such a feel-good atmosphere.

We didn't have much time, the waitress noticed this immediately and served us quickly. There was also a drink on the house because we got married the day before and I had my bridal bouquet with me :) The food was very tasty and especially the waiter Mustafa Bal and the boss were very courteous and nice. Gladly again!

Really delicious food and generally good atmosphere. Next time we are in Hamburg, we will definitely go there again and eat. 🥳

Super nice waiter, great food, good prices

Great personal service and affordable steaks! Prime rib was tasty and worth the buy. Prices are very reasonable. The lamb steak comes very lean and has no fat. This suggests to cook it medium rare at the most. The cream spinach is worth it! It pairs well with the lamb. Red wine selection is acceptable and the Australian Shiraz is worth pairing with the steaks.

Despite prior telephone inquiries, this house is not barrier-free! Ordered a table for nothing and nothing again. That was an asshole. Thanks for nothing!

A block house like any other. The food is good, the service too. There is nothing more to report on this.

We felt comfortable, especially our great waiter, Mr. Bal, who was very attentive. The food was good. The ambience was typical Block House restaurant.

The Block House staff was very friendly. The meat was as I wanted it and tasted great. The dessert was also very tasty. You will definitely be full.

Terrible experience... ordered a medium steak, we received a rare steak and they had to cook it 3 times more to still end up burning the outside while retaining a rare inside. At the end I asked 3 times to talk to the manager, who never appeared to even talk to me. We got a "discount" and still had to pay 44 euros for 2 small salads, 2 baked potatoes, spinach, a glass of red wine and a bear... just ridiculous, would not suggest it to anybody.

The service employee didn't make us feel welcome. Too bad. If anything, I felt like I was her employee. Not good.

We had a burger and a steak and were very happy with both.

The food is tasty, and varied. The staff was nice, and kindly spoke to us in english. If you're looking for a place on the formal side, or to dine with your parents, this is definetly the place for you!💛

Was a great evening. A perfect ending. We enjoyed the food very much. The steaks were delivered as ordered. The salad was crisp, fresh and consisted of many components. The service was very attentive. We would love to come here again.

Reliably good steaks for many years

Very attentive and friendly service. As usual, good food at Blockhouse. Minor discrepancies with the invoice were quickly resolved via customer service. All in all, highly recommended, we would be happy to come back.

A regular guest for 40 years... Must be good 🤗 The meat quality is great. The fact that some of the great staff have been the same for years speaks for a good working atmosphere.

Only thing that you can eat here is bull soup, potatoes taste watery, steaks have minimal beef taste. Tartar and carpaccio was the worst thing I have tasted my entire life. Mushroom pan side dish taste like made from canned button mushrooms and powdered mushroom stock. If there would be 0 stars, i would give that. Not recommended at all.

Block Hause is a chain of restaurants that are favored by our family. The manner of welcoming and service are traditionally at a high level. The people working there are friendly and help you choose with a smile. Unfortunately, the portions have become twice as small, making them quite expensive.

Food - top. And the service deserves special mention. Unobtrusive, polite, everything fits! 👍🏻

This restaurant is cozy, and nice deco and nice staff and good food

We were actually just passing through, wanted to eat something quickly and didn't expect it to be so tasty and so nice, the staff is so sweet, it somehow feels like being at home at the dinner table and the family is visiting. Absolutely magical, we left very happy.

Bedienung, Geschwindigkeit, Freundlichkeit sehr gut. Salat, Kartoffel und Toast auch super. Ich hatte das 300 g Special für 35€, meine Freundin das Steak für 23€. Ichchatte Medium, sie a Point bestellt. Ihr Fleisch war max Medium, meines war maximal medium rare. Dazu hatte da Fleisch eine starke röstung, die allerdings nicht gut schmeckte. Mein Fleisch war sehr zäh, ihr Fleisch war zart. Insgesamt gut aber trotzdem enttäuschend.

The Blockhouse in Kirchenallee is and remains the best in HH! In every respect, both from the food and the lovely service! Very happy with the food and service again today! Here we would particularly like to mention the very friendly service of Ms. Goretti and two young Afghan (?) service staff (young men whose names we unfortunately do not know, but whom we would still like to specifically mention)

After a long time I was back at the Blockhaus Kirchenallee, it was perfect, the lamb was on point, apple strudel was a must. As always, very friendly service. Thank you, see you soon. Sorry, my mistake. 5 stars in all areas.

I have been a guest at the Block House since the opening week in 1968 on Dorotheenstrasse, when I was an 8 year old boy. The furnishing style, which has not changed over the years, always gives me a little journey back in time and I am pleased that no wood had to be replaced by glass and steel. My wife and I have enjoyed eating out at Kirchenallee more often for over 20 years, on the one hand because of the central location and on the other hand because of the fast, attentive and long-standing service there. A steak, served charmingly by Ms. Goretti, is not just a steak, but a steak with style. The quality is always at the highest level, only in the past there was more garlic on the bread :-)

Burger was not even close to a burger: dead-fried patty on garlic bread with clumsy cheese on top. One Eisbergsalatblatt, no sauce. Wouldn’t recommend.

VERY good food, well made, friendly staff and acceptable price - we eat 2 steaks with 2 salads balls, fries, potatoes, garlic bread, coffee, water, dessert - for 68€

It was very tasty, unfortunately because we were busy the waiter forgot the garlic butter and the cola, but we were offered an extra. He was still very hard-working and friendly

A perfect evening – thanks to Ms. Goretti! I was alone at the steakhouse and couldn't have picked a better place to do it. I received a warm welcome as soon as I entered, and Ms. Goretti in particular made me feel welcome. Her friendly and attentive manner really made my evening special. The steak was simply perfect – cooked to perfection, juicy and of excellent quality. The side dishes were equally delicious, and thanks to Ms. Goretti's recommendation, I chose just the right ones. Whether alone or in company – you feel comfortable and well looked after here. A wonderful experience that I will definitely repeat!

It was my first time at the Block House and definitely not the last one! I needed a cheer up after a hard day, and I have definitely not expected at all to get so much positive energy and amazing experience overall! Everything was as close to perfection as possible from start to finish: even before entering the door was opened and I was greeted by a maitre d'. I also got immediately offered to choose between several different tables. The one close to kitchen appealed me as the kitchen is open and the hustle and bustle of the place actually had its own charm! I was almost immediately, after seating and hanging my coat, greeted by a lady waitress who made sure that my first stay in the restaurant was memorable and exceeded my expectations and was obviously a seasoned professional. My small adjustment to the classic menu was taken very seriously and I have gotten several different options on what I can choose from. Tea and my salad arrived literally in less than 2 minutes after the order was taken. Not even fast food restaurants can compete with that! They have arrived not only fast but with a smile and friendliness of the same lady who took my order. The main course arrived just on time- I have just finished my salad and another extremely friendly and also professional waiter helped me to rearrange my plates for the main course. The lady waitress was there a second later, when I have just cut the Tenderloin, to ask if everything is up to my expectations and if I needed anything. The food was delectable and tea was delicious! The timing, professionalism and impeccable work of the staff, the tenderness of the tenderloin (hehe), the way how everything works as a well-oiled machine, and while there could have been the tiniest of adjustments I personally would say would have made it absolutely perfect, I must say I was beyond impressed that it was “just” a Block House! And to that, the place was densely packed- and I was always able to get a very fast service even in between meals and when asking for a chèque. I myself, many years ago, have worked in 5* hotels for almost a decade, and I know a high quality service when I see one! The service of this establishment is worthy of 5* hotel. While maybe the ambience was a bit more down-to earth, and a couple of tiny adjustments were missing to be called the highest class, it still is service that makes it 5*, and this place has more than deserved it! P.S. Sorry for a bit blurry pictures, but my mission of the visit was to enjoy myself and not just make pictures so I had to make it haste!

The ambience could use some updating, but I was really happy with the food and service. Of course it is conveniently located, but the neighborhood is not always so pleasant. As soon as you're in the restaurant, you quickly leave that behind.

This was my second time visiting here and both times I was completely impressed by the food, service and the overall package. Our waitress Goretti (the “charming bitch”) in particular provided us with excellent service and is just a really nice employee. Next time we will definitely come here again.

Location is a bit dark and outdated. Food and service are top.

An excellent restaurant. Very nice staff, nice atmosphere and the food, excellent. We ate a T-bone steak for two. The meat is very tender and tastes just as you would imagine. It is fried over the grill, nice and medium, a dream. The waiter, Mr. Ferki Terdevci, was very, very nice, attentive and recommended a salad to us, 👌. I can only recommend the restaurant. And when we come to Hamburg again, our path will take us there again.

Delicious food, but the waiter was not very customer friendly

Actually everything was great. The waitress tried to give us a large table because the group consisted of 7 large, strong men. The food was tasty but the portion was a bit small for my standards.

Ci vado con mia moglie perché l'attiguo locale della Paulaner è chiuso. La delusione passa velocemente. Il locale è intimo e il servizio rapido e gentile. Ottime le weiss alla spina della Erdinger. Proviamo due Bull Soup (brodo di carne con pezzetti di carne ed erbette) niente male, Poi io mi prendo un Putenbrust steaks (bocconcini di tacchino con patate e verdure in salda) molto gustosa e mia moglie una baked potato. Prezzi nella media. E' di fronte alla stazione centrale, uscita sud. Andateci!

Great service and that's how I imagine a steak

Wir (2 Erw. + 1 Kind 11 Jahre) waren hier zum Abendessen zu Besuch. Wir wurden super nett begrüßt und zu unserem Tisch geführt. Unser Kellner war super nett und lustig. Das Essen (wir hatten 2x Filet Mignon und 1x Tenderloin) war superlecker und genau, wie bestellt, gegrillt. Uns hat es sehr gut geschmeckt. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

My steak was excellent. There is a star deduction for service because I got a baked potato instead of the fries I wanted. But that was okay too. Otherwise everything was great, super nice service.

It was a place we wanted to experience in Germany. They take it by reservation. But if you don't have a reservation, you can enter if you wait a bit. Prices can be a little expensive. But I recommend it for a pleasant dinner.

Block House: When service is faster than appetite The visit to the Block House was... let's say entertaining, although not in a good way. The waitress had apparently activated “speedrun mode”. As soon as she served the drinks, she seemed to want to test gravity - if I hadn't intervened, we would have been allowed to drink the water straight from the table. The food wasn't any better: it was catapulted onto the table with such a flourish that I wondered if she had mistaken it for a Frisbee. She was particularly creative when ordering: “Leave spinach with that?” Of course, that sounded like a nice offer – the fact that it costs extra was charmingly concealed. The same applies to the choice of dessert: “Ice cream with that?” “Yes, please, instead of cream!” – Sure, but please include a surprise price on the bill! Clear away? Lightning fast! My companion hadn't even finished chewing the last bite before the plates were already gone. A service that apparently thought: “Why give customers time when you can set records?” But the real highlight came with the bill. Without batting an eyelid, my companion was informed that when paying by card you could please click on the tip percentage. After such a service? Without smiles, without kindness, without effort? For a moment we thought we were on a hidden camera. Additional costs? Surprise! The spinach leaves that she politely offered me were of course not included. Just like the scoop of ice cream for dessert. But hey, who doesn't like reading their bill with the same thrill as a crime novel? Conclusion: If you like chaotic service and a surprise bill, you've come to the right place. For everyone else: Maybe it's better to eat somewhere else - where the drinks stay, the plates aren't vacuumed away and a smile is included.

On the one hand, the HBF location is ideal, but on the other hand, it's not that great because of the crowd that lives there. Otherwise great, fast friendly service and the food was of the usual quality.

I came without a reservation, so when I asked about it, the staff greeted me warmly. In particular, a tall young man with a small tattoo on his arm reassured us by telling us in a cheerful voice, ``Please take the seat of your choice.'' That made me very happy. (*Actually, the other day, we had a very unpleasant experience at a restaurant we had made reservations for in Bremen.) The waitress in charge was also very nice. All of the food served was very delicious, and the beer at the restaurant was also great. A tall and nice waiter brought us dessert. At that time, he said ``Enjoy~'' and made me feel at ease. Germany is a far away country in Europe. I was very happy to see such care and kindness. We hope that everyone from Germany will come to Japan as well. Actually, I just wanted to go to the toilet because there was a police operation at the main station and I had a one-hour bus ride ahead of me. I was shown the way to the toilet as if I were a guest who had made a reservation. This really impressed me because I had never heard of this type of service before. When I came back to the dining area, I decided to have some dinner here when I saw the fresh vegetables that were arranged in a kind of bar and positively dominated the entrance area. I'm currently changing my diet so I ordered meat with vegetables. It tasted delicious! Beef with cooked vegetables (onions, peppers, beans, mushrooms). I can highly recommend this location. The staff are in a good mood and the guests are happy.

Great steakhouse, making a reservation also made sense. The food and service were great, everything was delicious and the service was on point and friendly. Would love to come back.
