Block House in Hamburg

We stay in this beautiful block house several times a month. The service is extremely friendly, even when it is very busy, you are always served quickly, courteously and very friendly. The food is also highly recommended, always fresh and very good. Recently we were there with our little grandchildren, they were given something to paint, at the end a small gift and of course a delicious meal. Very child-friendly staff, great service, very good quality steaks, fresh salads and much more. My favorite restaurant in Hamburg for years. Thank you for the great service and friendliness. We always enjoy coming here.

We always go there as a family, whether in the afternoon or evening. It is simply a sensational restaurant, the waiters are polite and respectful, and the food is also very good. The ambience is the same in each of the Block Housers and it suits my taste. All in all a 5/5.

Nach langer Block-House-Abstinenz des Rezensenten infolge mehrfacher Unzufriedenheit an unterschiedlichen Standorten gab es hier nichts zu bemängeln. Nach einem sehr freundlichen Empfang wurden Speisen und Getränke von netten Leuten in gehöriger Zeit den Gästen serviert. Was aus dem typischen Steakhaus-Angebot ausgesucht war, kam wie bestellt auf den Tisch, insbesondere die Steaks auch so gegart. Empfehlenswert!

We first sat at a table in an area where it was very drafty. After raising this we were given another table in a different area. The branch in Volksdorf is excellently managed, the food is fresh and excellent, you feel right at home and the service is first class. I can recommend the restaurant 100% and look forward to the next time.

Unfortunately the prices are no longer correct. I'm not willing to pay almost €40 for a tenderloin. Mushrooms have been left out of salads for years and the amount of salad has also been halved. The garlic bread is also just a shadow of its former self. For half the price, perhaps everything would be okay. But over the last 15 years the price has gone up and the quality has gone down. The atmosphere is still very nice.

Incredible. The receptionist is on the phone for minutes and we stand next to them and wait for a table to be assigned. When the conversation ended, he greeted us briefly and answered another phone call (which took a very long time because an take-out order was placed). When he was finished, he said to me and my companion: "I'll give you a table right away, just a moment". Thanks "buddy" I wanted to reply. What makes you think of calling us on a first-name basis? Then he disappeared for a minute and came back. So after what felt like 10 minutes of waiting, we were finally able to sit down. Food was OK.

In contrast to the Blockhouse Wandsbek, the steaks here are exactly as you ordered them. Service always great!

From arriving, to eating and leaving, I feel very comfortable in this store. We were served twice by the same lady (blonde, ponytail and with experience) and were thrilled. So attentive and kind, that impressed us. I have a problem with my arm and she recognized it immediately and informed the kitchen accordingly. The resulting requests were no problem at all. The kitchen always did a great job and the food was on point and a real delight. The fact that it is a bit dark there is simply due to the typical log cabin ambience and is not my thing... Because it in no way reflects the fantastic service and the great food. Still clean and well maintained. Many thanks to the service and kitchen! The only point of criticism that really bothers me: The women's toilet is always a problem as it is probably dingy (according to my friend) We will definitely come back again and again

Thank you for the great service and the delicious steak. I ordered the rump steak, but it came medium rare instead of medium rare. Not bad, it can happen. When I pointed this out to the employee, she was super nice and immediately offered me a new steak. The new steak was perfectly medium rare and served quickly at the table. It tasted heavenly. We'd love to come back

Absolutely INCREDIBLE lunch menu (Monday through to Friday lunchtime, ask for Mittagstisch menu). Food was BRILLIANT and at an incredible cost - A fab and large mixed salad bowl plus a choice of mains (I chose salmon and took a photo After having eaten some of it), all for 12.30€. For a veg option ask the waitress, they will put it together for you at the time from their available options. My mum asked for the mains to be packed so she could take it home for her dinner - that's how ample the salad was. Service / waitress wonderful despite the huge demand. Highly recommended. Note that in German restaurants you are able to take your dogs (on leash). Cleanest WC facilities you'll ever find in any restaurant, anywhere. Update Nov 2024. Still coming here when visiting Hamburg. It is ALWAYS top notch.

Well, I was invited. Otherwise I probably would never have gone there. The last time I was in the Block House was about 30 years ago. But what can I say, it was like traveling back in time. Everything has been unchanged. I think the block houses are no longer really contemporary. The service was extremely good 👍. But the ambience: Oh well. I also expected more from the food. The food came before the drinks came. Just boring.

As always delicious! The tomahawk was really worth it...

We had lunch with the family at BLOCK HOUSE Volksdorf today and it was a great experience. The food was truly outstanding and absolutely delicious, even the starters were a delight. The service was extremely friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. We would definitely like to come back!

We were there on October 19th. for dinner there. Finally there is a dish with turkey again. Unfortunately we forgot to take photos of the food 🙈 The staff is so fond of children, we have never experienced anything like this before.

Always tasty, fast and friendly. Only the background noise is sometimes very striking...

Good food, unfortunately a bit noisy. Older people in particular have problems following a conversation due to the background noise. The service is friendly but at the limit of its capabilities due to the fully booked tables..

On our last visit we weren't so happy with the steaks we ordered. The service person reacted immediately and placed a new order. We were even very generous with the bill, even though we hadn't asked for or expected it. Our tip was accordingly good. The guest was actually king. This is something you rarely see today.

Very nice service, now well known. Dogs are always welcome and water is even provided for them. The food on site is also very good. Unfortunately, sometimes something is forgotten when ordering. Priced OK too.

We ate here again after a long time. From the reception, the lovely service staff to the food, everything was perfect! Although it was almost full inside and outside, we were served quickly. My son enjoyed the T-Bone Steak and I enjoyed the Mrs Steak. Grilled to perfection. Simply delicious!

We always have BLOCK HOUSE ready for special occasions. So we went to Volksdorf for lunch for the first time on our wedding day. We have often dined in other houses at certain times of the day and have never been disappointed. Unfortunately here. We weren't even sitting at the table when we were already asked for drinks. You can do that if you make recommendations. That would make the quick decision easier. After asking three times within 5 minutes whether we had chosen everything, we then ordered the food. Schnitzel Viennese style and 3 small pieces of meat with fries each from the lunch menu. We also decided on 2 starters. Beef tartare and goulash soup. Came pretty quickly. The shop was also quite empty. Goulash soup was good. The tartare meat was almost puree but of top quality. The overload of red onions and disgustingly bitter radish was extremely disturbing. Plus 2 mini slices of bread. The waitress saw that I had left the decorations behind, but didn't ask any further questions. Then after about 15 minutes more food came. The pieces of meat had 2 different degrees of doneness, but were of top quality as usual! The schnitzel was a disgusting disaster. Soft and full of fat. If you pressed it with a fork, it would come out bubbling. Fries light, not crispy or tasty. Very thin and nothing worth mentioning in terms of quality. The salad was actually the highlight, if it hadn't also been littered with bitter vegetables. After criticizing the food, the waitress tried to explain that the fat had been freshly changed and that was why the fries were so light and the schnitzel was not discussed further. She went to the kitchen and then came to us with a dessert menu and seriously asked if we wanted another dessert. I then answered this by asking for an invoice. There was no response to our complaint on site and since we didn't want to spend our wedding day arguing, we left. We felt like we didn't care that much to the lady who served us because we had never been there before. She has probably worked there for a long time and knows her guests. We didn't feel comfortable there and would prefer Wandsbek or Jungfernstieg again in the future. We were never disappointed there. It's a shame that it didn't work out differently, but we don't have any recommendations here.

Very good food at lunch time...4 small beef steaks...very tasty and goulash with spaetzle and red cabbage is a poem. We haven't been here for a long time...but we'll be coming back more often now.

The ravages of time are taking their toll on the company; the ambience is dark and gloomy, almost like the food. I was here in Volksdorf again with my in-laws. The older clientele still like it from 1938, the dark and conservative one. The service took our order and after a good 20-25 minutes the food arrived. I'm still stunned. My mother in law had lamb with spinach. The spinach is portioned in advance and kept warm in the bag. But instead of loosening it up a bit, it is served on the plate like this 🙈 Prices like Ikarus and serving like Mc D. incredible. My Mrs. rump steak, ordered medium rare, came to the table. Let it go back, the second one was cooked well. Only when there is an estimated 20-25 g of fat on 180g of meat do I feel like I'm being taken for a ride. The father-in-law also had an enormous amount of fat and his was even tough. Conclusion the 3rd visit was definitely the last. If only one of three visits is satisfactory, then you change the restaurant.

The log cabin has a typical ambience, which now seems a bit antiquated. BUT, as always, the steak was cooked great. Everyone got their own wish fulfilled. Medium rare, medium and medium well. The salad is fresh and deliciously mixed and the bread and potatoes are of tried and tested quality. As always, attentive and courteous service. Overall, always happy.

Wir wurden vor allen anderen Gästen angeschrien da wir uns draußen auf der Terrasse an einen Tisch gesetzt haben. Da ist uns der Appetit vergangen. Wir werden dieses Restaurant nicht mehr besuchen.

I've been there many times and tried various dishes. I was never disappointed. Everything is prepared to perfection and seasoned deliciously. The service is friendly and pleasant. The ambience is good, with interesting decoration that encourages conversation. There is a lack of music and special seating options. But it's comfortable.

Rarely eaten so well. The ambience was great. The food is locally grown and freshly processed. The kitchen is visible and the salad served was completely different than in the run-of-the-mill restaurant. I was even handed a pair of reading glasses because I had forgotten mine.

We come from the greater Dortmund area and eat with friends at Block House Volksdorf once or twice a year. The food was delicious and we would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to our service on Tuesday. 5 stars +

Familiar ambience, like a block house. Hectic hustle and bustle of the basically friendly staff at lunch. The portion of the €15.50 lunch (2 small sirloin steak medallions) turns out to be smaller than hoped. A note to the restaurant manager “is noted.” I'm not really convinced.

The BLOCK HOUSE in Volksdorf - excellent service - good food - live cooking - tried and tested ambience! Always good! In my opinion, the dark brown wall unit look from the last millennium is long outdated! Please think about a general update, for example in natural oak. You can also see the age of the location; it also lacks the accessibility that is common today! In addition, the vegetarian dishes can be expanded.

If Block House, then off to Volksdorf. The service there is great

We had something to eat here late on a Sunday afternoon and were given a really nice welcome. Here you won't be looked at askance if you're a little younger and will still be treated in a friendly, respectful manner (which we unfortunately experienced differently in other branches). A big compliment to the lovely lady and the nice gentlemen from the service area, great staff. The restaurant is in a nice, quiet corner where you could enjoy your meal outside, with free choice of seating. We also really enjoyed the food. To the dear blockhouse company, the only thing I have to complain about is that your employees have to work in long shirts in temperatures of 30 degrees, there are so many modern alternatives suitable for the weather :)

Blockhouse is always a pleasure. From the interior to the people who work here. Perfect food, attentive and friendly service and the “birthday present from Mr. Block”. It's nice that something like this still exists. It's almost like being on a dream ship.

No no no. I ordered a filet mignon - medium well. It came medium rare. No, I won't grill. This has only ever made things worse. If the beef quality is right, you can also enjoy it rare. But it was like bubble gum. That doesn't work in a steakhouse. A pity… Mr. Singh is not at fault. Good employee. Ambience also great. Service everything! But the main thing is unfortunately a 2/10. 😕

Hello. We stopped in shortly before closing time and were still given a very warm welcome. We had a delicious meal, as you would expect from a block house. We didn't even have the feeling that we were the last guests. Everything was great, service, food...everything was great. 1+

The quality of the steaks (I had Mr. Rumpsteak this week, filet mignon last week) is below average. It's a shame, service and ambience 5 stars. Please shop differently. Better goods. I'm happy to pay for good quality. But here the P/L ratio is simply not correct. There's no point in replacing the steak - it's about the basic class of beef. Kind regards to Ms. Lehmann. You can count yourself lucky to have such an exemplary, friendly service staff on your team.

Always a good choice. This time my baked potato wasn't great (kept warm for far too long, resulting in a very hard shell) but the salmon was great and really fair in price for lunch! Service top as always! A bit uncomfortable because it was very loud in the guest room. We still like to come back regularly 🙂

We got a comfortable table straight away without a reservation, the food arrived quickly and, as always, was very tasty and hot. This time I had a soup in advance, the goulash soup. Very hot, well seasoned and the beef had a nice bite to it. Main course with baked potato and garlic bread was good as usual. I like eating here, even if the prices have gone up a bit recently...

A very friendly welcome, above-average attentive service, nice steakhouse atmosphere. The food was delivered to the table quickly and was of the usual Block House quality. Leftovers were lovingly wrapped up and there was an extra portion of world-class sour cream on the side. Thank you for the great service, the good food and the lovely evening.

Block House is not the same as Block House... of course, the menu and the ambience are identical everywhere. But the branch in Volksdorf is simply even better.

I don't understand why the salad in "The Three Classics" doesn't have pumpkin seeds? But the small salad is very... One more thing: why are there no prices in the PDF menu on the BH Volksdorf homepage? Otherwise food okay.

Waren das letzte Mal vor 10 Jahren im Blockhaus……keine Ahnung warum. Essen wirklich gut…Bedienung aufmerksam und schnell. Man wird bis an den Tisch begleitet…..toll wo hat man sowas noch. Auf das Essen mus nicht lange gewartet werden dazu noch ein tolles Ambiente. Wir kommen bald wieder und lassen nicht so viel Zeit verstreichen. Die Karte ich übersichtlich und entspricht der Zeit, alles was neu ist ist gekennzeichnet.

Sehr guter Mittagstisch der 24 nicht um 20% angehoben wurde. Hut ab, und mehr als verdient dass es so gut besucht ist. Mittagstisch mit steak für 11,50€ ist Top/Preis Leistung aktuell.

Immer ein Besuch wert Einfach lecker Der Teller ist voll Man selbst ist satt Toller Service,der Kellner erfüllt schnell alle Wünsche Kurze Wartezeit obwohl es gut besucht ist. Macht einfach Spaß da essen zu gehen

Nice food and lots of choice of burgers. Fish was too fancy on the kiddies meal and there wasn’t enough for a 10yr old but an adults plate would be too much. We ended up sharing food with friends children.

Super leckeres Essen, mit gutem Service. Hier ist es fast immer voll, eine Reservierung ist somit zu empfehlen. Wir gehen seit Jahren hier essen und waren immer sehr zufrieden!

Hohe Qualität zu einem Preis an den wir uns nun leider gewöhnen dürfen. Von Zeiten von immer mehr Intoleranz im Bereich Ernährung hätte ich mir gewünscht in der Richtung mehr Angebote zu erhalten.

Sehr leckeres Essen, auch Änderungen waren kein Problem. Service toll, schnell, aufmerksam. Nix zu meckern :)

Super netter Empfang, sehr leckeres Essen. Bekamen sogar zusätzlich Knoblauchbrot. Das Ambiente war schön kuschelig. Auch wenn es voll war, konnte man sich gut unterhalten. Ich gehe sehr gerne in dieses Block House. Kann es nur empfehlen.

Sehr beliebtes Restaurant mitten in Volksdorf, am besten man ruft vorher an und reserviert. Die Einrichtung ist in die Jahre gekommen aber irgendwie auch Typisch Block House. Durch den großen Raum ist es bei Vollauslastung sehr laut. Das Service Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Küche versteht ihr Handwerk, besonders beim Fleisch. Das Block House ist sehr Kinderfreundlich. Wir kommen immer gerne.

Super Essen , Tolles Personal [ Freundlich , auf Zack und Hilfsbereit ]. Das Restaurant könnte mal nee Renovierung gebrauchen es ist aber dennoch sehr gemütlich.

Block House ist mal etwas feines. Das Essen war lecker. Leider gab es keine alterativen - allergie bedingt konnte ich weder die Steaksauce noch Sourcreme essen. In der Filale in Volksdof hatten sie leider keinen Ersatz/ amAlternative. Somit war das Essen trocken / langweilig.

Früher waren wir oft im Block House Volksdorf, aber die ständig steigenden Preise passten irgendwann nicht mehr zu den oft schlechten gegrillten Steaks. Dann wurde auch noch das Mövenpick Eis abgeschafft, die neue Marke ist einfach nur schrecklich. Am 3.11. waren wir mal wieder da und es war alles ausgesprochen erfreulich. Sehr nette Bedienung, ein perfektes Steak, Beilagen und Salat, alles sehr lecker. Ohne das Geschrei eines 20köpfigen Kinder-Geburtstags wäre es ein schöner Abend gewesen, aber dafür kann das Restaurant ja nichts.

Super Qualität, tolles Ambiente, nette und schnelle Bedienung. Preislich gesehen, ist es schon eher die obere Kategorie, aber das, was man bekommt ist jeden Cent wert!
