All in all, the quality was high, but in accordance with the host's specific rules, which were enforced quite persistently and politely for paying guests, right down to the correct order of which meat on the platter had to be eaten first. The host also informed guests that if they felt they had ordered too much appetizer, he would only bring as much as he believed would be enough to eat the main course. And if the guests were still hungry after that, he would serve the other half of the appetizer as dessert. Unfortunately, the kitchen was already closed when we asked for our dessert—namely, the appetizer the host had halved. Instead, we received the bill and a complimentary drink. Up to that point, we were very satisfied with everything, until we looked at the bill and discovered that for two 200ml bottles of whiskey—it's worth noting that this was Jameson whiskey—which costs a maximum of €20 wholesale, the bill showed €160. This meant we drank half a bottle but paid for eight! All in all, we would definitely have come back again, especially considering that we paid €600 for four people, which would have been reasonable given the quality, but not in the situation described. Nevertheless, thank you for the lovely evening!

Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience in this store. The owner behaved noticeably dismissively toward me after learning that I was of Turkish descent. I had the impression that I was deliberately denied service because of this. Such behavior is disappointing and has no place in a professional environment.

When we made the reservation by phone, at some point we asked ourselves whether our dog was allowed to come with us. An unfriendly question started asking how big the dog was, how heavy it was, whether it could behave, etc. It was also said that guests were not welcome via Instagram. In the end, you came up with a number of reasons why you weren't wanted and why you should look for another restaurant. If it starts like this, I don't want to know how a visit like this ends.

Einfach Mega! Bestes Essen überhaupt! Natürlich muss man Umsatz machen! Das Restaurant ist kein Imbiss! Aber das Essen der Salat mit Schaffskäse, Lule, Schweinefilet, Rippchen, Kalbsfilet, Scampis auf Vorbestellung ein Traum! Besser geht es nicht!

Das ist seit Jahren unverändert: phantastisches Fleisch! Man isst was gereicht wird - aber da das was gebracht wird ganz toll ist, gehen wir immer gerne hin. Große Gastfreundlichkeit, nettes kleines Lokal mit einem wunderbaren Kellner. Der Hauswein (weiss) ist herrlich.

Waiter might be a little direct but he’s extremely nice and helpful. Ambience is rustic and matched the vibe within this tiny restaurant. The Armenian wine was really nice to drink, from the first sip! The food, especially the meat, is amazing! I’m a big meat fan and have eaten meat all over the world, but the meat here is something special! The used marinade, seasoning, herbs and spices are perfectly prepared and balanced. I had a really nice evening with really excellent meat dishes. The Lule were the best minced meat dish I've ever eaten. Afterwards came a platter with meat variations which I also thought was great. My favorite was the 1st pork skewer but every type was good. Gladly again, thank you!

The ambience isn't bad and the food would be good if it weren't for the disgusting service. Unfortunately, the service makes everything around it bad and severely detracts from the overall impression. In addition, some of the service staff seem to be extremely racist and do not want certain minorities in the store. It's a shame, the potential is there.

The reviews about the unfriendly treatment that have been found here so far seem to be absolutely correct - even on the phone! I called to ask a question about the menu or the food on offer. I was treated incredibly unkindly on the phone and rejected disrespectfully. Very, very unfortunate and completely incomprehensible and baseless. Für Fleischliebhaber Viele Geschichten hört und liest man zum Betreiber und zum Restaurant selbst. Meine Begleitung hat ebenfalls sehr gute Stories in petto. Zwei wunderbare Besuche später kann ich vieles nicht nachvollziehen. Vielleicht liegt es auch an den Leuten, ihren eigenen Vorstellungen und dem Bedürfnis sich nicht auf das Konzept einzulassen. Wir verfahren stets so, dass wir uns mit dem Service absprechen und auch Empfehlungen entgegennehmen. Mehr so im Beifahrersitz. Am Ende hat es aber immer geschmeckt. Das Fleisch ist schon einzigartig. Dafür allein lohnt es sich herzukommen. Doch auch der rustikale Charme Alt-Westberlins ist ein guter Grund hierher zu kommen. Und sich drauf einzulassen.

Keine Frage ! Das Big Window ist eine Institution und der Name ist gut gewählt, denn Ivan ist das große Fenster und er lässt uns darin reinschauen, was er für wichtig hält und was nicht. Wer hier herkommt und sich nicht drauf einlassen kann, der ist hier einfach falsch. Ich gehe ja auch nicht in eine Picasso-Austellung und will erstmal Van Gogh Bilder sehen! Lasst euch auf den Abend ein und stellt euch vor ihr seid zu Gast bei einem alten Freund der Familie. Erwartet nichts und fordert nichts und lasst euch begleiten in eine lukullische Welt des Fleischgenusses, das Big Window serviert excellentes Fleisch. Das Big Window ist definitiv eine schlechte Wahl für einen Vegetarier und eine Katastrophe für einen Veganer, aber umgekehrt wäre eine Fleischfan auch unglücklich in einem veganen Restaurant. Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Abend und kommen bestimmt bald wieder in diese kleine Oase der armenischen Gastfreundschaft. Vergessen sie das Bargeld nicht, das Big Window hat sich dem guten alten Bargeld verschrieben. Rechnungen werden jedoch ganz regulär ausgestellt !

Für mich ist das mehr als ein Restaurant, es ist ein Lebensort. Ich bin immer dort, wenn ich in Berlin bin und liebe es dort einen Abend zu verbringen. Es ist Erholung für mich. Klar ist, man muss sich darauf einlassen - und dazu gehört das Folgende: - Es ist ein Fleischrestaurant. Wer da nach Veggi oder Beilagen fragt, ist hier einfach fehl am Platz. Es gibt Fleisch und das ohne Beilagen - dies dafür in einer erstklassigen Güte und mit einem unvergleichlichen Geschmack. - Es gibt keine große Auswahl und deshalb eigentlich auch kein richtiges Bedürfnis für eine Speisekarte. Man bespricht einfach mit dem Kellner, was man Essen möchte. - Es ist ein besonderes Restaurant - deshalb sollte man nie mit Erwartungen hineingehen, dass hier alles so ist, wie in anderen Restaurants. Kann man sich damit anfreunden, dann wird man einen tollen Abend verbringen und wird immer wieder kommen. Mag man das nicht, sondern erwartet ein Essen wie in jedem anderen gehobenen Restaurant, dann sollte man gar nicht erst kommen. Das Big Window ist dann einfach nichts für euch. Allen anderen wünsche ich einen schönen Abend dort!

High accolades were given to this restaurant, so the expectations were high, but the picture turned out bleak unfortunately. The Big Window was more about window-dressing in a nutshell. This little hole-in-the-wall restaurant with his legendary, moody owner is an institution in Berlin for over 60 years. As you enter, you get the feeling you’re back in the 70s, which can be charming and romantic and you could be up for a great evening away from the hustle and bustle of today. You pretty much have a set menu which consists of various types of kebabs (5 to be exact). Since the owner is Armenian, that’s absolutely acceptable and welcoming. You then have the now hip concept of sharing these kebabs with your other guests at the table (no individual orders). No condiments can be ordered like veggies or potatotoes. Total no-go. You only have one choice of white wine by the glass, and only two types of desserts, part of the 3-course offer. So Big Window is more of a food rationing experience for a group than individual à la card orders. A way of service you have to get accustomed to and should be be aware of. When you finally want to settle your 50€ a person kebab you will be shocked to actually still discover a restaurant in Berlin that takes ONLY cash (not even EC-cards). No paper trail, no IRS issues, all under the table. Wow, this place is truly a trip back in time, but not the best of memory Lane with prices of 2025. Definitely not advisable for a romantic one-on-one dinner with a woman, who is vegan. Stay away to save you trouble.

Hier sind Kinder verboten. 😆 Aber bitte nicht zu spät, sonst kann man gleich wieder gehen. „Ich nehme nur die Vorspeise“ - wird direkt vor die Tür gesetzt. „Ich bin Vegetarier“ - Jacke anziehen und gehen „Ich bin vegan“ - vor die Tür „ Ich trinke dann nur“ - Tüüüür Nehmt einfach was der Kellner empfiehlt und auf keinen Fall Essen übrig lassen!! Tolle Musikauswahl. Cash Only! Ansonsten viel Spass :)

Kleine Auswahl, immer frisch zubereitet aus exquisiter (Kräuter-) Küche mit hervorragenden Weinen! Unbedingt vorher reservieren, Vegetarische Speisen nur auf Nachfrage!

Höchst unhöflicher Umgang seitens der Bedienung und des Besitzers mit den Gästen. Uns wurde zunächst von dem alten Herren mit Brille, der anscheinend der Besitzer war, mit sofortigem Rausschmiss gedroht falls wir nicht in kürzester Zeit den Tisch komplett besetzen würden. Wollten dann Wein bestellen, Bestellung wurde zunächst aufgenommen, doch dann meinte der Kellner wir (zwei Frauen) sollten doch warten bis „unser Mann“ da sei und er für uns bestellen könne. Als wir dann komplett waren und unsere männliche Begleitung die Bestellung aufgeben wollte, wurde uns unfreundlich und hektisch vom Kellner suggeriert, dass wir gehen sollen, wenn wir nicht sofort das bestellen, was er uns vorgäbe. Egal, wie gut dieses Fleisch auch sein soll, eine derartige Atmosphäre macht selbst gute Qualität zunichte. Dieses Restaurant könnte wirklich etwas Herzlichkeit vertragen. Schade eigentlich.

Mal ganz anders...ohne Schnörkel super Qualität an Fleisch....einfach toll.... sehr interessante Bedienung.....man bekommt meißtens nur das was der Chef will.... speziell...aber irgendwie auch toll.... es ist schon ein Erlebnis dieses Lokal.... sehr zu empfehlen.....

Es wird gegessen was auf den Tisch kommt. Und das ist sehr gut so. Wer sich in diesen gastronomischen Timetunnel wagt, landet im West-Berlin der 60er und 70er Jahre, als Eventgastronomie noch nicht erfunden war und nur eines zählte: Qualität. Vegetarier, Kinder und übersensible Mägen gehören nicht hierher. Wer bestes Fleisch, ehrlichen Wein und bodenständige Gastfreundschaft mit Stil und Herz schätzt und gerne dafür angemessen zahlt, der wird immer wieder kommen.

Gegessen wird das, was der Chef empfiehlt. Wer das als Scherz ansieht und lieber überzogen freundliche Kellner erwartet, sollte einen grossen Bogen um das Bug Windows machen. Alle anderen erwartet ein kleines, aber sehr feines Restaurant mit kleiner Karte. Aber die braucht man ohnehin nicht, da der Padron und sein Oberkeller alles vorschlagen und erklären (und bestimmen). Bereut haben wir Vier es nicht, die Mischung aus armenischen und indischer Küche mit persischen Einflüssen und der Dominanz von über Holzkohle gegrilltem Fleisch war einfach nur sehr gut, schmackhaft und ausgesprochen aromatisch. Zu uns war der Padron freundlich, weil auch wir zu ihm freundlich waren... 🤔😉 Erwähnenswert ist auch, dass man im Big Window lange sitzen darf und nicht wie in vielen Schicki-Micki-Restaurants nach 2 Stunden freundlich an die Bar oder zur Kasse begleitet wird. Wir werden garantiert nochmals hier essen gehen.

Iwan ist einzigartig und dafür beehre ich ihn. Gastronomie auf andere Art und Weise und das macht diesen Laden einzigartig!! Es schmeckt alles fantastisch und ich meine wirklich alles!! Mit Ausnahme Schockorigel ( mit Minze )zur Mokka ist nicht mein Ding :). Wenn man die Regeln kennt dann ist der Abend gelungen. Wann ist mit weiteren Teesorten zu rechnen? Borik ist wie immer Top! Gerne wieder.

Ich kann mich den negativen Kritiken überhaupt nicht anschließen. Gut, der alte Mann schaut mürrisch und sagt nicht viel, aber sein Kellner ist klasse und was wir hier an Fleisch bekommen haben ist großes Kino! Wir kommen gerne wieder! Ein toller Abend

I found this restaurant to be one of my favorites in Berlin. Absolutely wonderful meats. I have to say if you’re a vegetarian don’t go to an Armenian restaurant. It’s like going to disco and not liking music.

We have booked a table for 6 for the birthday of a friend. It started with the Owner (a grumpy old man) being rude to us that there were only 5 of us (one person couldn't make it)... then it continued with an order to us to have 5 main meet courses despite the fact that I don't eat meat at the time or we have to leave right away. We agreed... then once we started to have our starters he flipped out over me not eating and started to yell at me "it's a restaurant and if You don't eat you must leave or you all have to leave" After a short argument the man went nuts and was nearly pushing us out... Honestly, awesome drama out of nothing... I intend to come back and make more out of it... just to take a piss out of it

Eigentlich freuten wir uns auf einen Abend mit vorzüglicher Gastronomie. Leider wurde daraus nichts. Schon als meine Frau, deren Magen streikte, einen Tee bestellen wollte, konnte der Kellner diese Bitte nicht erfüllen. Wenig später erklärte uns der "Chef" des Restaurants sichtlich beleidigt, dass das hier keine Tschaichana, also Teestube, sei. Nach der Vorspeise für unseren Sohn und für mich nahm der "Chef" die Bestellung des Hauptgerichtes entgegen. Als meine Frau sagte, sie könne wegen Ihres Magens nichts essen, schimpfte der "Chef" in dummdreister Weise, wo es denn so etwas gäbe, ein Restaurant besuchen und nichts essen wollen. Wir sollten gefälligst bezahlen und "raus mit Euch"! Seit 50 Jahren sei er hier, so etwas sei ihm noch nicht passiert. Fazit: In den 50 Jahren mag dieser Mann vielleicht kochen gelernt haben, für den kulturvollen Umgang mit seinen Gästen allerdings braucht er ganz sicher noch ein halbes Jahrhundert. Zu bedenken ist allerdings, dass er die 80 bereits überschritten hat.

NICHT hingehen! Schmeißen Sie ihr Geld lieber zum Fenster raus, als sich den Abend von diesem unverschämten, kulturlosen Halsabschneider vermiesen zu lassen! Gehen Sie dort hin wo Sie wie ein Gast behandelt werden - im bigwindow können Sie dies nicht erwarten.

Die Beschreibung der Situation im Restaurant ist falsch, der Gast schrie herum, nachdem der Sohn kritsiert wurde, er sei von der jüdischen Gemeinde ... usw. ... usw. Mehr als merkwürdig, dass man sich so darstellen muss. Ich glaube nicht, dass die jüdische Gemeinde nach außen hin so dargestellt werden möchte. Alle anwesenden Gäste waren schockiert. Danach war der Abend sehr harmonisch und das Essen top !!!!

War heute in Big Window. Man hat uns tatsächlich rausgeschmissen, weil mein Sohn (7 Jahre alt) mit dem Glas gespielt hat. Der ätere Herr (wahrscheinlich der Besitzer), meinte zu mir, dass seine Menschenkenntnis das erste mal seit Jahren so schlecht gewesen ist. Also derartiges habe ich noch nie erlebt!!!!!! Geht nicht dahin!!!! Alle dort sind unfreundlich und richtig kinderfeindlich!!!!!!!

Für eine freche Bedienung braucht man nicht weiter zu suchen! Am Samstag 07.02. wollte ich meine Freundin überraschen. Ich lud sie ein zum Abendessen. Wir waren nie im „Big Window“. Gerade als wir angekommen sind, kam der Inhaber schon unfreundlich zu uns. Er war etwa unzufrieden. Wir brauchten uns nicht die Speisekarte anzuschauen, er wusste schon was alle dort nehmen. Als meine Freundin frug welches Fleisch das Filet war, frug er sie ob sie das nicht vom Bild erkannte. Sie bestellte Lamm, und ich Hühnchen. Als der Kellner unsere Bestellung servierte und meine Freundin bemerkte das es Kalbsfleisch statt Lamm war, konnte sie sogar nicht fragen ob er sich geirrt hatte, weil der „Pate“ ganz unfreundlich zu uns kam, und uns einfach ohne Weiteres auf die Straße schickte. So eine unverschämte Frechheit habe ich noch nie erlebt!
