5/5 experience!! Really appreciate that they have the allergens listed on the menu. The servers were so friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our meal.

It's simply fantastic here. The food is excellent. The waiter is as usual in Cologne. The Kölsch just keeps coming. It's a great place to build up stamina. We'll be back.

Super friendly service! If you're there with a group, there's something for every taste. The mussels are extremely great and come in many variations. Be sure to reserve so that you can be sure to get the number of seats you want.

Not only did I have an excellent meal here, but I was also treated excellently. The food was fresh, piping hot and deliciously cooked, and it also gave me great joy to come to a house where the employees were happy and in a good mood towards their colleagues and also showed this to their guests. A wonderful and charming place! We’ve been here twice, and the food is absolutely perfect. The mussels are our absolute favorite – we tried the À la Chef style and were blown away! Highly recommend!

Nice German pub with authentic food. Service was good, ordered the schnitzel with fried potatoes and Jaeger sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly, good flavor and yummy. I would come back to try other things on the menu.

Surprisingly good. Personally, I found the ambience a bit disappointing because it is not as rustic as it seems from the outside. The waiters are very stressed, but they try hard. But the absolute highlight was the food. Oh my god, the beef roulade made according to Grandma's recipe was simply amazing. Over and over again. YUMMY!!!

A house with tradition. My parents ate mussels there, we eat mussels there and our child is now in the 3rd generation ;-). It has to be once a year when visiting Cologne. Always delicious, rustic, fast service, always a good saying on your lips. We are already looking forward to the next visit.

Been there again for a while and was pleasantly surprised. The food and Kölsch are very tasty and the Köbesse are cool.

Came here without a booking but the waitress was kind enough to slot us in despite although the restaurant was relatively full. Awesome food! Portions are big but we finished it all cause it was good.

The Bier Esel on Breite Straße is a very good address for Rhenish cuisine. The specialty is mussels, Rhenish style. But you can also get grilled knuckles or Viennese schnitzel there. The staff (Köbis) are very, very friendly and are happy to help with any questions. We really liked it, so we give it 5 stars, keep it up!!!!!

Ich kenne das Brauhaus seit vielen Jahren und wurde bisher noch nie enttäuscht und darum freue ich mich schon auf den nächsten Besuch.

Essen ( Muscheln) top, Service 👏👏👏👏👏👏, Preise in Ordnung. Negativ ....zu laut, aber ist in jedem Brauhaus und nicht negativ gemeint. Trotzdem nächstes Jahr wieder zur Muschel-Zeit 👍👍

Open Table hat NICHT richtig funktioniert. Die Kellnerin hat aber sehr gut reagiert und mitgeteilt, dass Open Table bereits mehrfach zu Problemen geführt hat! Ich gehe daher davon aus, dass sich das hervorrangende Restaurant bei Ihenen ( Open Table) melden wird!!

We were there on Saturday lunchtime last weekend and got a table without a reservation after a short wait - but it was already very full at 12.30 p.m. The service is extremely friendly, quick and helpful - really great. Our mussels were very tasty, very plentiful - but the prices here are really juicy now too. The Mett bite was also very tasty! The clear negative aspect there, and I've noticed this many times, is that when you leave the restaurant you smell unbelievably of food/fat. All you have to do is go home and change/ventilate. That's really a shame. But we'll still come back :-)

...I usually eat the mussels here 'sailor style'. It's also not that loud for a brewery and you can still have a good conversation.

There are not many different restaurants in Cologne and I think the quantity is less than other cities. But this is one of the best places we ate. We recommend it.

There were five of us and we ate very, very tasty food. Service was also great. Will definitely come back!

The food is good but too expensive. The ambience is dated and simple. Bad smells from the toilet. The service was unmotivated. The request for an espresso shortly before 10 p.m. was refused, even though the taproom was still busy at 11 p.m., with a bill of just under 1,000 euros. For this outrageousness alone, it actually deserves a maximum of two stars.

Für ein Brauhaus tip-top! Konnten uns sehr gut zu fünft unterhalten, obwohl das Haus der gut besucht war. Essen war richtig Klasse, Muscheln ein Träumchen!

I'm a tourist in Cologne, but after many years I was really looking forward to an hour in the Bieresel. Unfortunately, the counter staff was so rude and unfriendly the whole time that I probably don't want to come back again. There are better traditional Kölsch bars nearby with much more pleasant staff. The atmosphere is cozy, I didn't eat anything Unfortunately I had to give at least one star for the service for technical reasons...

As always. Köbes is nice and friendly, which is not common in many breweries. Menu offerings moderate, except for mussel dishes. Checks very good, but already in the high price range. But if you try it once, you'll definitely come back again and again. Advice from Christa and Wilfried.

Definitely my favorite restaurant in Cologne!! There are many good places in this city, but I love the 'Bier-Esel' so much that I often give up eating elsewhere! From starter to dessert, everything is very fresh and truly home-cooked in the traditional way. The dishes have great taste and are generous. These are warm and comforting “grandma’s dishes”. The premises are simple but very old and authentic, with a lot of charm. The terrace is very nice (few or no cars nearby). Hygiene is impeccable (very, very clean toilets). The service is super efficient and friendly: you never wait too long. The map is available in English (you have to ask for it). The prices are reasonable even if you can find a little cheaper in Cologne, but the few extra euros are totally justified in my opinion. I love their generous homemade meatball ("frikadelle") served with mustard. This meatball is sublime and can easily replace a large starter for a low price (€4.5). It goes wonderfully with Kölsch beer. For the main course: everything is divinely good: the large Schnitzels, the bratwurst accompanied by delicious cream puffs and potatoes fried with bacon, the large portions of very fresh mussels (like in Belgium, but less expensive!), and at my big surprise: the best 'Fish & Chips' that I have ever eaten in my entire life (large portion, super white and soft fish, nicely golden breading). I would never have imagined being able to eat seafood from a such quality in Cologne, but it is apparently one of the specialties of this establishment Even the desserts are delicious, always with a little touch of originality and very little sweet and well garnished (I tested several suggestions of the day, the desserts vary every day). No criticism, it's flawless!

Typical Cologne brewery atmosphere, very cozy and great. What particularly struck us, and other breweries can follow suit, is the super friendly service from the staff. The portions are top notch in both quality and quantity. And the prices are absolutely correct. We are already looking forward to our next visit here.

We always enjoy coming here to eat mussels. There is a good selection and the food comes quickly and fortunately it is never overcrowded. Very pleasant. This time we only had to wait a lot for the beer. Normally this happens quicker.

Wir Reservierung hat prima geklappt das Personal war sehr freundlich und das Essen gut schöne Atmosphäre so wie es sich für eine Kölsch Bierkneipe mit gutem Essen gehört. Der Geräuschpegel war sehr hoch man hat sich trotzdem wohl gefühlt.

Wir hatten eine grosse Muschelplatte mit Garnelen, sehr lecker, auch das Haxenfleisch und das Kalbsschnitzel waren vorzüglich. Als Nachtisch zu empfehlen das kölsche Tiramisu und der Kaiserschmarrn.

Der Bieresel ist ein kölsches Lokal mit entsprechender Speisekarte. Die Gerichte sind immer frisch und lecker, ich empfehle derzeit die vielfältige Muschelkarte zu testen. Personal immer freundlich und hilfsbereit, entsprechend der rheinischen Mentalität

Wir gehen immer wieder hierhin, da sowohl das Ambiente als auch das Essen sehr gut sind. Vor allem die Muscheln und Haxen. Aber alles andere natürlich auch.

Bieresel zu besuchen, insbesondere in der Muschelzeit, ein ganz besonderer Genuss auf kölsche Art! Hier mal einzukehren ist für jedermann empfehlenswert!

The mussels were too heavily peppered, there was no salad with the schnitzel and the main course came during the starter.

Hatten leider einen Tisch, an dem es sehr kalt war, es war irre laut und mussten sehr lange auf das Essen warten, die Muscheln waren hervorragend, die Spätzle unserer Tochter leider schon fast kalt… Dennoch war das Service Personal sehr nett und freundlich!

Wir haben hier sehr leckere Muscheln in verschiedenen Varianten gegessen. Der Service war sehr nett und das Sünner Kölsch kam auch stetig an den Tisch. Hier gehen außerhalb der Altstadt, aber inmitten der Einkaufsmeile sicher viele Kölner zum Essen hin.

Wie immer super lecker. Die besten Muscheln in Köln , wenn auch leider deutlich an der Preisschraube gedreht wurde , aber lässt sich halt nicht vermeiden. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!!!
