From the oysters to the main dish, everything was perfectly fresh and flavorful. The grilled octopus with black rice and vegetables was incredibly tender and full of character, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection.

The food was, as always, absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, the attitude of the waiters massively lowers the overall quality of this establishment. The desperate attempt to appear cool and alternative is simply embarrassing and actually comes across as unpleasant and arrogant. Service is ultimately about providing a service. The older lady, in particular, who has worked there for many years, would probably be better off in a pub in the old town. But that doesn't change the fact that the chefs always do a great job.

This was our second attempt at Bar Olio – and unfortunately, it was disappointing again. Reservations aren't possible, even though there's always a long line on weekends. We waited about 40-50 minutes, only to be seated at a high-top table that only offered drinks and some bread – no real food. The staff was unfriendly and, when we asked, rudely told us we'd have to wait another two hours for a table and food. They understand that it's busy, but a respectful tone should be a given. Unfortunately, I can't recommend Bar Olio. When it's that busy, a reservation system would be useful – like in many other restaurants.

The old lady at the front desk was absolutely rude. We hear a lot of bad things about the service these days (the younger staff are excluded), and we always give it a chance... but it's simply aloof, unfriendly, and rude. Furthermore, most people are ignored for a long time. Our office will be avoiding this spot in the future. Luckily, there are plenty of alternatives.

Friendly service, delicious food, and good quality produce. Expect a wait for a table. Reservations are not possible. It's especially busy on weekends. A good wine list. The food is a bit on the expensive side, but the quality is well-deserved. A visit is worthwhile. Dogs are also allowed outside.

I've been there several times, and the food has never disappointed. Today, the service was a complete disaster. We waited over 10 minutes for our food orders to be taken, the staff made no eye contact, and were simply completely unmotivated. You feel like you're not being looked after or served. We ended up going home without ordering our food—never again.

Absolutely terrible service. The prices are unjustified. Asparagus salad is more like a cold soup with asparagus garnish. It has nothing to do with a salad. Cappuccino is a cup with frothed milk, more like a babycino. Parmesan is charged extra for pasta, it would be okay if it was freshly grated Parmesan, but not a ready-made product from a bag. The tables were only cleaned after we were seated, and it was amazing that the leftover food and breadcrumbs landed on our laps and in our bags. The glasses were dirty, hygiene was a complete 0. The waitress's strengths are not arithmetic either. A primary school child could have done better. In summary: Absolutely overrated place, price-performance ratio is crap, service is abysmal, hygiene is catastrophic!

We decided to have dinner at the Baroleum, but were very disappointed. We had to wait an incredible two hours before we were finally served. During this long wait, three different waitresses served us, with no discernible pattern or clear order. It also took another 30 minutes for our drinks to finally arrive. The service was consistently inattentive and somewhat rude, which further detracted from the overall experience. The food ultimately disappointed us so much that we will definitely never dine there again.

The only “off-location” that remained after the major renovation of the old railway site. It's a shame that Düsseldorf can once again only build Lego design houses. One should have taken a cue from other cities like Valencia's Turia belt. This restaurant is a wonderful escape with great atmosphere and good food. Prices are appropriate for the quality. Simple but beautiful outdoor lighting.

Last week I went to Bar Olio for the first time – and I was thrilled. In the middle of a rather sober, gentrified new development district, this charming restaurant immediately catches the eye: an old brick building with character that stands out pleasantly from the modern monotony around it. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was pleasant and calm. The outdoor area in particular is a real highlight - spacious, inviting, designed with attention to detail. I can vividly imagine how this place will become a meeting place for all generations in the summer: whether for an afternoon drink with friends, dinner with the family or simply for a relaxed glass of wine. Bar Olio is more than just a restaurant – it is a place with soul.

Der Reiz dieses Lokals erschliesst sich wohl eher den Locals. Als Gast aus Berlin fehlt einem das Verständnis dafür, dass wir hier bereits bei sehr früher Ankunft (um 18.30h) eine ellenlange Warteschlange vorfanden (Reservierungen werden nicht angenommen). Arbeitet hier niemand mehr in Düsseldorf? Die freundliche Kellnerin servierte uns draussen in der Kälte einen guten Hauswein für 32 EUR die Flasche. Und meinte, mit etwas Glück bekämen wir in 30 Minuten unseren Tisch. Nun gut, dann eben Warten, Warten, Warten. Nach 1 Stunde und 15 Minuten ergebnisloser Warterei brachen wir ab und gingen ein paar Blocks weiter eine vorzügliche Pizza essen im Su Nuraghe am Wehrhahn. Hier war auch die Luft viel besser. Im Olio steht die Luft, man kann kaum atmen - es war original kein einziges Fenster zum Lüften geöffnet. Und dort sitzt man auch eng an einander gequetscht - aber so scheint es der gesellige Düsseldorfer eben zu lieben.

I haven't been to the Olio in ages. Munich is simply too far away. I love the shop, the food, the service, the love for the food and the customer. In Munich you have to reserve with a credit card in the restaurant you cannot reserve in the Olio, perfect!!!!! Short wait with Peroni at the door, then to the bar or to the table. The perfect evening with sensational food. The wine is perfect and everything is written before dessert. We'll be back!!!

An absolutely awesome restaurant. Danger! No reservation possible, but waiting times are shorter outside of rush hour. Yes, Parmesan is charged extra for one euro. But why not? This also costs money and is not taken into account for these dishes. Then it may cost extra. By the way: Parmesan is unnecessary with this pasta because you can do without it ;-) The service is exceptionally good! The team blew us away. Combined with the fantastic food and drinks, it was a highlight of our Düsseldorf visit. You have to like the type of service. The price is appropriate to the food and, in our opinion, even reasonably priced. We cannot understand reviews about overpriced food given the great quality. So good that we went there for lunch and dinner. Inconspicuous from the outside. What matters here is the inner values :-)

Can confirm Nikla's experience, MONEY ADDICTED VAMPIRES!! Could be long The worst dining experience!! I was there on January 29, 2025 at 7:45 p.m. The first, you have 1.15 hours. closed earlier than stated online. I had ordered a small wine (5.95€) and had to drink it under time pressure and was made to pay immediately. When I paid, the boss gave herself a tip, but since I had to get to the train I didn't see it as a message until later via Apple Pay. At the train station I thought it didn't matter, I'd go back. Again I asked a waitress about the situation, perhaps you could only pay with a card if you exceeded a certain amount, she just replied "yes, only from €20" so apparently the rest was added together so that it came to €20...nowhere did it say or was it mentioned that you can only pay with a card if you exceed a certain amount, I myself couldn't see the payment amount and thought I was paying for the wine normally, clearly it was an attempt to tip myself. But well, I couldn't get the money back somehow... that's just how I wanted to ask and then everything was ok and the situation was clarified for me. The waitress, who was actually friendly, wanted to call her boss to make sure everything was happening. Everything was fine until then. After about 15 minutes, an older “figure” came into the store, who was the boss. She came to me immediately and told me the same thing that had already been clarified for 1 minute and said I should immediately pay for the bruschetta I ordered after the situation had been clarified, I get up and she continues talking and now it comes. It would be “unbelievable and disrespectful” not to give a tip in such a city and in such a restaurant, I should pay immediately and never see me again. Then while she was giving me the receipt she said that I was “permanently banned from entering the house” I was shocked and didn’t say anything. When I picked up my bag, I asked briefly whether the boss had misunderstood the situation, and she said, “Leave immediately, I don’t want to argue.” I think she has some kind of mental disorder because I can't explain it any other way. Never set foot in this sick property!!!

You can't “design” the atmosphere and that's exactly why the Olio is so special. Firstly, the food is the highlight. Creative, top quality, on point. (We've now forgotten other restaurants that believe that because they look cool that's enough.) Secondly, there's no fuss about the guests. First come first serve. It's tiring sometimes, but you just have to come to terms with it. And when it's full and the service is at its best, then it's exactly this atmosphere that defines the Olio. We come almost every week, for reasons :-)

We love the authentic little shop, the handwritten menu and the fact that you can't make a reservation... the cuisine is a very successful combination of Italian and Asian and the wine selection is simply top. Some evenings you have to wait a long time to get a table. But it's worth it, I promise.

Nice bar in Pempelfort with a fine selection of wine and food. In summer you can sit outside nicely. I would actually like to give an overall rating between 4 and 5 because there is still a bit of room for improvement when it comes to food. But you can definitely have a good and tasteful time here.

Das Lokal ist nicht sehr einladend. Aber wenn man sich darauf einlässt, wird man belohnt:eine Minestrone mit frisch und üppig geschnittenem Gemüse, eine Auswahl an Speisen, die nicht alltäglich sind, und eine bemerkenswerte Weinkarte. I hesitated for a long time to come forward about the situation at the Bar Olio restaurant at Schirmerstraße 54, 40211 Düsseldorf. Since it also affects my neighbors, for whom I feel a certain sense of duty, I would like to describe a few incidents to you in week 18, 2023. A blonde grandma waitress welcomed us dynamically outside and after an interlude she simply left us standing because she obviously had no overview of the free tables, both outside and inside. We spontaneously decided to dine there. Jackets lay in surprise on the free tables. After several minutes we spoke to a waiter behind the bar. He assigned us a table, which appeared to be occupied a few minutes later. Reason: A lumpy grandmother gasping for air ran in the three steps and declared “The table is occupied, didn't you see the jacket?” Apparently she was waiting outside for a table in the sun and synchronously reserved another table inside using her jacket. It reminded me of a towel war in Mallorca. Unfortunately we did not receive a menu. The above blonde grandma waitress recommended and brought the dishes to us. These were pretty poorly prepared and not to our taste. We ate chips with long teeth. We did not receive a hospitality receipt/invoice on Signal. The grandma waitress above surprisingly sat down at the table with us and wrote down numbers on a piece of paper with a ballpoint pen. Your forehead muscles were heavily strained by all your facial expressions and wrinkles appeared on your forehead. She showed us all of her math skills and cheekily revealed that she learned her skill in kindergarten. We gave her a 10% contribution for this :) We left Bar Olio without a receipt for entertainment. In conclusion, we cannot recommend the Bar Olio restaurant in Düsseldorf Pempelfort unless you want to waste time and money pointlessly.

Unfortunately a failure We were in the restaurant and, apart from the food (which was delicious), we only had negative experiences. The food didn't come until an hour later, with guests who came after us getting their food well before us. When we asked in a friendly manner whether we had perhaps been forgotten, we promptly received a mushy answer. It is not possible to pay with a card there, and it is not common to hand out a receipt either. However, since we were there on business and needed one, we had to discuss it for a long time and then only received a handwritten note. The service staff always reacted annoyed and slightly arrogant. There were no prices listed on the drinks menu, so when I asked about the price I immediately received an annoyed, mushy answer. There was a sarcastic reaction to the farewell. The food was good, but if you're looking for friendly service and niceness, you're unfortunately in the wrong place there. We definitely won't go there again, there are much better restaurants in a similar price range.

Never again! I was very disappointed with my visit to Bar Olio. The service was simply catastrophic. Our food order was completely forgotten, while parts of the order at the next table were missing. None of the employees even bothered to ask. What was particularly annoying was that we were left sitting with a small child for over 1.5 hours without anyone looking after us. After asking when the food would arrive, we were told that the pasta was no longer in stock 😳 The wine we ordered was of poor quality and far too expensive. The pasta was also overpriced - but we can't say anything about the taste as we ended up leaving the restaurant disappointed. We will definitely never come back and can only advise against visiting Bar Olio.

We were initially greeted very friendly by a young gentleman and pointed out that we would have to wait a while, this waiting time was perfectly fine. Later, a lady at our table served us in a very condescending and unfriendly manner! In my opinion, a no go for such a price range. We got our starter quickly, but we had to wait a long time for the main course. Our son, a little boy, went to the waitress who didn't pay him any attention, the other told him she would check where the food was .There was no feedback. Unfortunately, when the food finally arrived it didn't convince us, we were very hungry so I can't rate it 100%.

Unfortunately, Bar Olio has developed into a negative one. The arrogant and inattentive service left a bitter taste even before the meal. Just like the unkempt appearance of the women with holes in their socks. The starter (salmon tartare) tasted okay. The second starter we ordered (octopus) was served with commercial Ajvar sauce, which I find quite outrageous for the price range. The risotto with seafood had the character of rice pudding and was not convincing in terms of taste, as the bitter taste left by the service was still deep.

Went to Olio today, we first had a drink until we were assigned a table after about 30 minutes. We knew this because you can't reserve in advance (perfectly ok). The service was slightly overwhelmed, sometimes a bit unfriendly (it was very busy in the evening), forgot little things (drinks, starters) but brought them straight away and apologized when they were made aware of them. Now the most important thing: the food. Nothing special in my opinion. The food doesn't have the character of a restaurant, it's more like a tavern (we had a salad and gnocchi, and the steak dish). The whistle was missing, little/bland seasoning. The prices are more than high. Not justified for me. I know the Olio from before - no comparison to the quality back then. Conclusion: location good, food ok. Pricewise higher. Given the prices, I expect good food and top service. You can do it, but you don't have to.

I had high expectations for this restaurant, considered one of the best in the area. The weather was lovely and the atmosphere on the terrace was really pleasant. There were about ten tables occupied, everything seemed promising. I ordered rigatoni and a green salad, my friend chose the risotto. But from that moment on an extremely “interesting” experience began. The wait for the food dragged on forever, a full 45 minutes passed before anything came to our table. To my surprise, the food was served faster even to the guests who arrived 20 minutes after us - also risotto and pasta. When the rigatoni and risotto finally arrived, the salad was missing. When I politely asked, I received the answer: “That is being processed.” Why the salad that I had ordered as a starter was only served after the main course remains a mystery to me. Five minutes later the salad finally arrived - why couldn't you just honestly admit that you had forgotten it? We preferred not to have coffee after our meal, and when paying I asked somewhat ironically whether the meal always took so long. The answer: “We don’t use microwaves. It just takes time.” As if the lack of a microwave would justify the endless wait. The rigatoni was a solid 3.5 out of 5, the risotto only got a 2. My friend, who normally has a healthy appetite, couldn't even finish his risotto. It's really unfortunate that we wasted our time here. We certainly won't be coming back again.

The entire team, including the kitchen, was replaced and, after almost 20 years, payment by card has also been possible. Unfortunately the food is no longer acceptable. The portions are smaller, the classic spaghetti with veal bolognese is not al dente, the “Bollo” can only be seen with a magnifying glass and a touch of Parmesan also costs extra. The octopus on black rice is just tough. This was our 2nd visit after the reset, we are still making a 3rd and final one. We hope you take the honest criticism to heart!

As always in the early afternoon, very relaxed, nice welcome from the new employee. Waited 10 minutes for a table. We always eat delicious food You should ask for the wine list, but there is also competent help. Can't you please always have a summer party the day before, with sunflowers in water trays??!!?? Just beautiful.

Vor ca. 6 Wochen wurde das komplette Team inkl. Küchenpersonal ausgetauscht und seitdem ist nach fast 20 Jahren auch Zahlung per Karte möglich. Leider ist das Essen nicht mehr akzeptabel. Die Portionen kleiner, der Klassiker Spaghetti mit Kalbsbolognese nicht al dente, die “Bollo” nur mit mit Lupe zu erahnen und ein Hauch von Parmesan kostet auch noch extra. Der Oktopus an schwarzem Reis zäh wie Leder. Das war jetzt unser 2ter Besuch nach dem Reset, einen 3ten und Letzten bekommt ihr noch. Wir hoffen ihr nehmt euch die ehrliche Kritik zu Herzen!

Ich war kürzlich in diesem Restaurant und muss leider sagen, dass mein Besuch enttäuschend war. Der Service war in Ordnung, aber die Qualität des Essens ließ zu wünschen übrig. Wir haben eine Tomatensalat mit Mozzarella bestellt, der leider überhaupt keinen Geschmack hatte. Danach hatten wir den Pulpo, der sehr zäh und hart war. Insgesamt war das Essen nicht das, was wir uns erhofft hatten. Ich hoffe, dass sich die Qualität in Zukunft verbessert.

We have been guests here since 2011, more or less continuously and quite often, except for the Corona hole. Today for the first time since 2019 (estimated). A lot has changed. Beforehand - come in, ask where something is available - sit down, wait. Now - wait until - perhaps - someone from the service sees that you are waiting and - more or less - friendlyly assigns you a seat. And then continue to wait until you can/are allowed to order. The “no reservation” policy remains active. The menu is unchanged except for 2-3 main courses - but not the portion size, which has changed and shrunk nicely. You can understand that, but you don't have to, because the prices have also been adjusted, but in the other direction. The fact is: if a concept runs for 10 years, it doesn't mean that you have to continue it forever. I have no problem waiting or going without a reservation (we live around the corner), but seeing the same menu for years and noticing how the portions and quality change negatively - I don't have to go through that, I don't pay less for it , rather more. Thanks Bar Olio, it was nice, but we'll try somewhere else.

Also, wie sich der titel sich beschreibt. Fantastische frische Qualität, wer das nicht mag, sollte bei all u can eat essen gehen. Wartezeiten, sowie es sich gehört, nichtmals dr oetker kann das so flott. Weinkarte, super auswahl. Bedienung, locker, ehrlich u flott. Logisch dass man sich nicht aufteilen kann.

I absolutely don't understand the hype. Incredibly UNFRIENDLY STAFF, I've never experienced anything like that. The FOOD was no more than LOW AVERAGE. Plus the WAITING TIME of OVER 1.5 HOURS for our food - NEVER AGAIN!!

I ordered tortellini with Gorgonzola and spinach – a dish that clearly appears vegetarian. Instead, I received tortellini with a ham or meat filling. When I called to report the incorrect delivery, the man on the phone (presumably the owner) was very rude and unaccommodating. He claimed it stated that the tortellini were filled with pork – but that's simply not true. There is no mention of meat or pork either on Lieferando or in the order summary. I'm a vegetarian and therefore couldn't eat the dish – it went straight in the trash. For that, I get one star. I would have appreciated more accommodatingness and, above all, clearer labeling of the dishes.
