It tasted quite good. The vegetables had very little to do with Asian cuisine, which I found disappointing. No ice cubes for the drinks; this should be mentioned when ordering, not when the drinks arrive.

We were very satisfied! Both the appetizers and our main courses were delicious! The homemade mango iced tea was also very good. The staff was very friendly.

The food here is delicious! However, the portions are very, very small. Even I, a woman who doesn't eat much, wasn't satisfied. You only get a small bowl of rice with your curry dish. The prices are therefore not justified for the quality! Plus point: The staff was friendly and the food came quickly.

We had a delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere – we'll definitely be back! The only downside: we were charged without asking, and we would have liked to order another drink.

If Asian cuisine appeals to German tastes, then Banoi is the place for you. The food is served in generous portions. The dimly lit ambiance could also be perfect for a first date 😉. Enjoy Banoi and enjoy your meal.

Beware of a rip-off. When I checked out, they repeatedly claimed that my card wasn't accepted. In the end, I was charged twice. They keep you waiting on the phone and don't respond by email. I've been chasing my money for almost a month.

Almost authentic Vietnamese cuisine, it's a pity that typical herbs such as coriander, mint leaves, and basil are missing.

There is a reason why their score dropped to 4.2 lately. They got greedy and the food really does not justify it. We used to be regular. Not anymore.

I was invited by lovely people, so I endured the worst service. One meal was completely forgotten, and everyone at the table received their food at a different time. It was edible, so it probably didn't upset my stomach, but the overall experience was quite depressing. NEVER AGAIN to this restaurant?!

We had dinner last night and it was a disaster. It all started when I had to call again because no one had responded to our online reservation. When we arrived, it took ages for anyone to come to us. First we ordered starters and about 5 minutes later the main course. We waited quite a long time for the starter. When we had finished, someone from the service team came and asked again what we wanted because they had forgotten to put their receipts on the bill. There was no apology, and the tone was as if it was our fault because we hadn't ordered the starter and main course together. We then waited another 45 minutes for the main course, which was then served at different times. I had to ask twice to get my food, and by the time it finally arrived, my companion had finished eating. There was no apology, discount, or anything else. It was a disaster. The staff were slow and only moderately friendly. We weren't the only ones who had these problems. We are disappointed and will definitely not be back!

The food has always been very good. However, on our last visit, the service was very unprofessional. The dishes were served minutes apart, and even afterward, the service was inattentive, so we had to wait a very long time to pay.

We were there recently and even though it was very busy we were somehow pushed in, which was very nice. The atmosphere is nice, especially outside. The food came quickly, but we had the red curry with chicken, among other things, and I have to say that the amount of meat in it was anything but acceptable considering the very high price, and the portions were generally meager, you could count the pieces of chicken on one hand. Others are much more generous. You can do it once, but you don't have to. The taste was okay. And a 0.2L Coke is also questionable.

The food tastes good, but the service is very poor. I tried several times to get the staff's attention, but was ignored. One employee said she'd come right over, but she completely ignored me, and I couldn't even place my order. When my friends got their food, I was finally able to order something, but I never received it. This is unacceptable!

I discovered this restaurant by chance a few months ago, and I'm absolutely intrigued. I love exotic food from other cultures, especially Asian food. I'd never tried Vietnamese before, and I really enjoy it. They also serve snacks. I like it.

Unfortunately, it's happened to me three times now that a meal was missing from a pickup. I went back once to get it later. Then, for several months, I kept asking if everything was included. The last two times, I forgot: once rice was missing, and once the third dish was missing. I could, of course, check and/or return every time, but I'd like to be able to expect to get everything I order. It's improved!

Table for two right by the entrance – it was quite drafty. Chairs were showing their age. Table was cleaned after 45 minutes, after asking. Waited 1.5 hours for the food. It was lukewarm, and the mango salad was unbearably spicy (and I like it spicy). After asking for an hour, I got my drink. But it was the wrong one. Banoi has seen better days. Both in terms of service and food. Too bad...😏

The food was good, but the food took nearly 50 minutes and 3 reminders before it arrived. It was still 10 minutes after my wife's meal had arrived. I preferred the original restaurant, which is a 10-minute walk from this one, with the same name and less busy.

We don't all eat at the same time and it's very unpleasant!

Unfortunately, the quality of the food varies greatly. We ate in Banoi a few weeks ago and it was very tasty, ordered to take away today...the meat in the Pho was tough and inedible, the soup was bland and had hardly any taste. There was hardly any meat in the green curry with veal, which is also more expensive. It's a shame given the very high prices for Asian dishes. In the future, we will support the other Asians in Freiburg, who can demonstrate a more consistent quality.

This restaurant used to be really good. But now the quality has deteriorated so much that we won't go there anymore. The service also takes some getting used to. Until three years ago this was my favorite restaurant in Freiburg. But we have been disappointed too often.

The food was very tasty. Freshly prepared. The price was very good. There were 3 of us, we had 2 main courses and 1 starter, 2x cola, 2x homemade iced tea and 1x pineapple spritzer for €48. The main courses were large portions. Value for money 10/10

It's ok, nothing overwhelmingly good. Always thought the broth and soup was better at Chada Thai. They supposedly don't have any beer on tap - bit sus as the bottle beers are easily to make a large profit on.

The food was incredibly comforting and absolutely delicious, making for a very satisfying meal. While the restaurant can get quite crowded at times, it’s never really an issue for us. We don’t mind the bustle and still enjoy the overall experience. The lively atmosphere actually adds to the charm, and it’s always worth it for the quality of the food.

The appetizers in particular are highly recommended. We found the main course to be a little too bland in terms of taste. However, we are used to Asian and exotic food and for the average German it is probably just right. The service was super friendly. Unfortunately we had a table in front of the door downstairs - it was a bit crowded and cold there. However, the ambience itself is very nicely chosen.

There was a slight smell of urine in the room. Food was ok, the Pho was very salty, the bowl didn't have enough salt. The service was lousy and uncaring. Some dirty dishes, long waiting times, sticky table.

A very nice Vietnamese restaurant. We had a Pho soup, which was excellent, some spring rolls, curry dishes, and papaya salad. They were very tasty. It's definitely one of the best restaurants in frieburg.

A few years ago the store was good. Although I have never been to Vietnam, I have eaten in excellent Vietnamese restaurants in Paris for years and so I have an impression. Basho-An has never been able to compete with the good restaurants in Paris, but a few years ago you could still eat well here. Yesterday I had a bo bun, which was by far the worst bo bun I've ever eaten. Mainly pasta, then a few cucumbers, onions, some meat and "fish sauce" that didn't taste like fish but just spicy. This has nothing to do with a bo bun and nothing to do with a good meal. I will never eat here again.... Unfortunately, many restaurants in Freiburg generally seem to be declining extremely since Corona. Very sad, this makes the choice more and more difficult because you are offered more and more junk (often at very high prices)...

It's a real shame, we've been ordering for home delivery for a long time, we checked with the delivery person and a meal was missing. After calling both branches, we were told that we were unlucky and that the missing food would not be delivered, even though it had already been paid for in advance. They didn't approach us in any way and activated Paypal's buyer protection. We've always thought highly of the restaurant, but now they have a few fewer people than customers. What a shame!

I stayed at Banoi and I can only recommend it. We had the rice bowl with all kinds of fresh vegetables and delicious peanut sauce. I think it's very good that they have a sugar-free soda alternative (detox water). I also had the Coconut Miracle smoothie, very tasty and not too sweet. Luckily it also has chopsticks. When it's warm it's nice and cool under the trees outside. On cloudy days when it's colder you just need a jacket. Despite the high number of visitors, service was quick and friendly after ordering. 10/10 Btw vegetarian/vegan has never been a problem on site.

Hello, first of all I would like to say that it hurts me to give this place a bad rating because we actually liked eating at Banoi (until about 2 years ago). However, in recent years the quality has declined on several levels. I just ordered 4 vegan spring rolls and unfortunately I took home 4 rolls with chicken (unfortunately the sauce was also missing). Things like that can happen, yes. However, this wasn't the first time I've taken meat to go instead of a vegan dish in this shop. When you bite into it at home and almost puke because you're not meat, that's just disgusting. The last few times I accepted it like that. But this time it annoyed me so much that I had to call. Should I reveal what is being offered as 'compensation'? You get a voucher for a store where you no longer want to eat. Thanks Banoi. Really. Guests who have been there for years are treated this way. Get somewhere else. I was there last time. I also find it hard to collect a flat rate for packaging. Especially if you don't even manage to complete orders. Because the sauce from the vegan bowl completely leaked out in the bag because the container was simply broken 🥲 delicious.

We spontaneously went to Banoi for an early dinner and were very satisfied. We both eat vegan and had a nice selection. We sat outside and both the service and the quality of the food were good. We would eat here again.

Update from June 8th, 2024: We were there again today after more than two years. We waited a bit long for the food, but as soon as it arrived everything was forgotten. Food was super tasty and the price was totally okay. The two of us paid a good €40 (main course and homemade lemonade) Original review January 20, 2022 We finally went to Banôi last week. It was a bit crowded and we weren't sure whether we would be able to find a place without a reservation. We were pleasantly surprised, after moving tables around a bit we had our place with plenty of room for the next table. Everyone is sure to find something delicious to eat on the mega-detailed menu. My Bo Xao Sa really sizzled when it was served and created a little show moment 😉. Super tasty and great price, what more could you want. It is rounded off by friendly and courteous staff. Keep it up!

Lunch very tasty. 2-3 dishes with soup. Get there early as the restaurant was full after 15 minutes. Takeaway services also available. I will gladly come again.

Stopping here every now and then for lunch as they always have very yummy options, one always vegan / vegetarian and another with meat or seafood. Not cheap but delicious. Outside nice, inside crammed, only three tables for barrier free access directly after door.

The staff didn't feel like working at all. I preferred to sit at the garbage can and smoke 🚬. We had to wait 35 minutes for a simple drink order. Which in and of itself is a disgrace. In addition, the service was extremely unfriendly and dishonest.

Tasty but the service is catastrophic.

Intriguing restaurant in the basement with refined Asian decor: it makes you want to discover more. Intimate atmosphere. Adorable German waitress who makes you happy by speaking to you a little in French. Possibility of card in English for those who have poor command of German. Too bad there were no pieces of spring rolls in the bun bo.

Very tasty food. Also for take-away (count the bar!), otherwise reserve in advance, it always seems to be busy.

I recommend everything on the menu!

After ordering and picking up our food over the phone, we noticed that the prices on the website clearly hadn't been updated. This meant we paid over 10% more than stated on the menu, in addition to the packaging fee (which is completely fine). Even though I had ordered the food over the phone two hours before picking it up, we still had to wait fifteen minutes before we could take it with us. The taste of the food was okay; I ordered the seafood plate (No. 25) for over €20. Unfortunately, apart from the two mussels and two shrimps, it hardly contained anything from the sea. Overall, I would not fully recommend the restaurant, especially due to the unadjusted prices on the website, which give the impression that you as a customer are being ripped off. It is known that the tax increase in the catering sector leads to additional costs, but this has already been implemented for almost three months, not just last week.

There are stars for the lovely staff. Went to Banoi for the first time today and to be honest I was a bit disappointed. My partner ordered Pho Bo and I ordered Bun Heo. Since we are big Vietnam fans, we have already tried a number of Vietnamese restaurants and are still trying new things. Unfortunately, the price-performance ratio is not right here. Unfortunately, the amount of meat was saved, but there were vegetables and salad. We drank Tiger beer with each meal, which is highly recommended. Super tasty beer. Ambience is okay, but quite cramped and the tables are very small. We also found it a shame that the dishes came separately. While my partner was already halfway through, my food finally arrived. The taste is okay, but it still doesn't come close to my favorite Vietnamese.

Cozy restaurant with good food. We specially ordered our iced tea without ice so as not to have a watered-down taste. But it felt like it was only filled with water and didn't really smell like lychee coconut. The service was nice, maybe a little overwhelmed. The furnishings are cool, even if we unfortunately received chairs without backrests. But that was fine. The food was really tasty and very traditional in taste. So it's totally fine, but it doesn't necessarily have to happen again

Long waiting times, service not very helpful, loud music, soup: very salty, thin, overcooked rice and a few rings of spring onions as garnish. Although the menu says: “If you have an allergy, please contact us,” the waiter was not very pleased when asked about gluten-free food. He couldn't give any precise information and simply left the table. Of the three dishes offered for lunch, only two were available. We had to wait a very, very long time for the food and were only moderately satisfied with the quality. The quantity could also be a little more. Visually, the place is nicely decorated, but the loud disco music doesn't match the ambience.

Food was okay, we did have to wait really long for the food, eve though we didn’t order so much, and we were there on a Thursday evening. The food didn’t seem to be cooked well and also lacked flavor. We payed a little under 100€ for three people, everyone had a dish, drink and we shared a platter. A pity. We had high hopes, unfortunately the wrong ones. The ambience looks really nice, but the price-performance ratio is catastrophic. It's okay to pay more for really good food, but €30 for a starter for three people is outrageous! Some of the meat was too raw, some of it was too well done. Eternal waiting times until everyone had their food. The first ones were already finished (there were three of us!!). Service was quick, but you also felt a bit being watched. A chair was rudely taken away without even asking and while food was on the table, the table was shaken really badly, WITHOUT even apologizing. You can eat much better somewhere else for the same price. And definitely too much coriander!!

Food was ok but honestly service and how the waiters were behaving wasn't lovely. The food there isn't the cheapest. They were really stressing us about how much time we have until we leave although it was 6pm and they would close at 8 pm. They didn't have the desserts and the food got shrinked since the last time we were there.

Very little space in the dining room and the seating is tight. In terms of service, an effort was made in principle, but some of the drinks were forgotten and the cutlery only came after the meal and upon request. I found the food itself very tasty and reasonable price/performance ratio. Overall, definitely my recommendation

The food is delicious and authentic and the prices are reasonable. The service could be a little better - clear the table when finished or ask if anyone else would like a drink. But everyone was very friendly with a smile on their face. The seating is a bit tight. But what doesn't work at all is the smell that you get in your clothes, on your skin and in your hair after the visit. Absolutely inadequate ventilation, and then three portions of sizzling beef at the next table. For us one (and actually the only) reason not to go there anymore.

We sat at the table for over ten minutes and when we ordered we were told that all tables were reserved! We would then have to leave our table again. Nothing professional.

Our reservation was completely screwed up, but instead of offering a reasonable solution, we first had to discuss and "prove" that we really called the day before and made the reservation... Diese Bewertung bezieht sich auf das BANOI im Lust auf Gut, wo wir am 11.11. zu zweit zum Abendessen waren. Als ich bei der Bestellung fragten, ob es eine vegane Variante der Pho gäbe, wurde mir geantwortet: "Ich glaube, die ist vegan. Doch die müsste vegan sein." Auf Nachfrage, ob sie wirklich vegan sei, erneut "Ja, die müsste vegan sein. Glaube ich." Der Vorspeisenteller für zwei war sehr lecker. Nachdem wir die Vorspeise ungefähr zur Hälfte aufgegessen hatten, kam die Bedienung mit einem Gericht. Wir baten darum, zuerst die Vorspeise essen zu können und dann das Hauptgericht zu bekommen. Nach ca. drei Minuten stand die selbe Bedienung mit beiden Hauptgerichten da, stellte sie mit "gutem Appetit" ab und ging. Da wurde uns unmissverständlich klar gemacht, dass wir genau JETZT die Hauptspeise essen MÜSSEN, ein entspannter Abend mit Gerichten nacheinander ist nicht möglich. Das Essen selbst war sehr frisch und schön anzusehen, geschmacklich war es allerdings fad. Nur durch Würzen mit den am Tisch bereitstehenden Soßen kam Geschmack. Das ist sehr schade, da die Gerichte eigentlich schon die Würze mitbringen sollten und nicht durch irgendwelche haltbar gemachten Soßen dazu kommen sollten. Noch ein Hinweis zu den Toiletten: nur eine Damentoilette von drei offen, kein WC-Papier, keine Handtücher und offensichtlich niemand, der sich kümmert. Unser Fazit: nette Location, bemühtes Konzept, aber leider im Ergebnis nur Durchschnitt. Vielleicht für ein schnelles Mittagessen, aber sonst keine Empfehlung von mir.
