Ballhaus Watzke in Dresden

We were there for dinner last night. One hall was closed for an “Oktoberfest”. The music from this hall was very loud, so that you could hardly understand your own words. It was correspondingly loud in our room. After almost 20 minutes without a waiter coming to take our order, a young waitress came who was very confident despite the busyness and noise. In this case, kudos again. Afterwards things went more smoothly with the drinks and food. Other waiters were more busy with friends at neighboring tables. We experienced it completely differently, which is a shame.

Unfortunately, "my Watzke" is no longer what it was until a few years ago. Yesterday we tried it out again. I find the now very limited menu very sad. Unfortunately, Watzke classics such as spare ribs, pork knuckle meat or the super delicious goulash soup have not been available for a long time. I decided on half a knuckle for €18.90. It is only a very small overall portion. Just a few years ago the knuckles were twice as big and the whole knuckle cost €9.99! So the price has quadrupled. Unfortunately, half the knuckle wasn't cooked long enough and the rind was soft, almost like a knuckle of pork. Not good. I won't eat knuckle there again because it wasn't the first time. Beer garden with beer is very nice in summer, unfortunately the food is no longer available and very overpriced.

We like to come back again and again and always have very good experiences, but yesterday we were very surprised. We took a seat in the garden in the bright sun, tables and benches were not cleaned, bird droppings, (4 to 5 p.m.) Drinks were served quickly and yet unfortunately the waitress didn't notice us, we neither received a menu nor did the male attendant listen to us. One had the impression that he was unmotivated to do his work. It wasn't until the third time we asked that our order was taken. The food was delivered quickly and very empathetically by a female employee. As always, the food was beautifully prepared, tasty and very sufficient. We hope to find the usual pleasant atmosphere again on our next visit.

Food overrated! Better to visit Ribwort Plantain or Tramper nearby: authentic, large portions, delicious, without tourist flair, etc.

The food was very tasty and plentiful. The service was friendly. Ambiance is very nice and rustic, but very loud in the rooms.

The beer (Alt-Pieschner) is a very tasty thing. But unfortunately some of the staff occasionally tend to make unprofessional statements - a shame!

Even after the beer garden season, good quality and friendly service inside👌 a small criticism or suggestion: With so many sausage variations on the menu, the mustard could be served a little differently and more sustainably than in cheap plastic bags... and the flyer for New Year's Eve does not contain any price information🤔 Is the ticket price not yet fixed or can you figure it out yourself? There twice in quick succession and both times very nice👍good quality, friendly service, beer garden with a great view, thank you very much 😊

Great beer, great atmosphere, great location

I love the Ballhaus Watzke. Delicious home-brewed beer and the cuisine is also highly recommended. If you're in the area and love hand-made beer (in addition to the 2 "standard beers", there's also a great monthly beer (don't miss the honey beer in December)), you simply have to come here. If you're lucky, you'll also be offered highlights such as the delicious Estonian light (which was the journeyman's brew in August 24). Come here!

An extremely beautiful and attractive establishment. The dishes are a real culinary delight. I can only recommend it. It's definitely worth a visit.

The Kleine Watzke is located directly opposite the Ballhaus Watzke. There seems to be construction work going on there at the moment. It will be interesting to see whether this will be an extension of the ballroom or just used as a future office. There are many varied events at the Ballhaus Watzke. The beer garden is also well located with a beautiful view of Dresden and the Elbe.

It's always nice in the Ballhaus Watzke. The atmosphere is relaxed. The conditions are nice. The food is absolutely fine, but rustic. It's also a brewery. The beer is really tasty. The view of the Elbe from the beer garden is calming and always beautiful.

Absolutely recommended. Better reserve. We drank three beers and all three are great. Food also very good in terms of quality and price/performance.

We went to Watzke twice at the weekend. On Friday evening at peak time. Even without a reservation, there was still a nice spot outside. Despite the fact that the hut was full, the service was as expected. Extremely attentive, quick and friendly. The food came quickly and was great. Now to the actual highlight: a wedding with around 80 people on Saturday. Even though both the outside and inside areas were super crowded, everything was under control. You rarely experience such perfect service. Everything was fine. So: big praise to everyone involved and thank you. The only deduction in the ambience is because of the scaffolding

Had a super detailed tour, very good and friendly employees (I think I've never seen employees in a better mood 😁) and the food was also very, very tasty... I'm already looking forward to my next visit 👍

I can only recommend bacon bratwurst (filled with goat cheese and dates) with a couscous salad. Schnitzel with potato salad is not recommended for us Swabians, as I don't think the potato salad is homemade (bucket goods). It would be better if there were fried potatoes or fries with it.

Very nice, traditional restaurant with a beer garden, hall and brewery. Menu/beer selection very varied and something for everyone. Price is a little higher.

Sat outside and enjoyed the view of Dresden. Fell straight from the bike into the beer garden. 😅👍🏻located directly on the Elbe cycle path. Tried the really delicious house beer and Watzkes No. 1 (currywurst). Only recommended. The service was super friendly and the price-performance ratio was great. 👍🏻

Every month Watzke has a changing monthly beer; Always on tap: Pilsner and Altpieschener (red-blond beer - very drinkable 😋). In the photos 2x dessert.

This place is a must try if you are in Dresden. It is a little outside the center, but what a location. Right by the Elbe with real German brauhaus atmosphere and great food. And the beer is so delicious

In the beer garden with a view of Dresden, friendly staff, which is sometimes fun, large portions, delicious home-brewed beer. You simply feel comfortable here. Parking is opposite. Don't forget to order the exit ticket (free of charge) with the invoice. Everything is completely relaxed here. 🥰

Next to the river Elbe and overlooking it, you can taste German cuisine in this typical restaurant. We tried "schnitzel", breaded cut of meat accompanied by potato salad and sauerkraut; all well accompanied and washed down with a craft beer that they make themselves, where the fruity touch stands out. Highly recommended.

We spontaneously went to Watzke and were really excited. We got a nice table without a reservation, the beer was tasty and the food was delicious. It was a bit loud, but that was to be expected around 7:30 p.m. and had a good brewery feel. We were back at the Watzke on August 1st, 2024 and only then discovered that it was located directly on the Elbe. We didn't see that at all in November. We were served very well again, and the food tasted very good and was plentiful. The beer was as refreshing as expected. We will definitely see each other again.

The Watzke brewery is always worth a visit. In the summer the beautiful beer garden (for me the most beautiful in Dresden) with a view of the Elbe, the Frauenkirche etc. Can't be topped. The taproom with the brewing kettle is so cozy in autumn and winter

This is the first and last time we ate there. The entire staff was very rude and not very hospitable, which was clear right from the start. We had made reservations online (with no option to choose whether inside or outside) and when they said that we could also look for tables outside, we asked if we could sit at the reserved tables there, which was met with a laugh and the sentence "Of course not "You made a reservation inside" was commented. When we still found a place, there were only two menus there. Nobody thought it was necessary to give us another 2 menus. When we ordered the first beers, they were almost thrown down so hectically that a good amount of beer spilled over and wet the table. The waiter didn't even notice it, so we cleaned it up with what was served. When we finally ordered, we ordered a bread plate (which was declared as a starter) and 4 main courses. The bread plate then came with the main courses, where of course we no longer needed it (we wanted to eat the starter BEFORE the main course). When we commented on this, the cheeky comment came back that we should have said so and the bread basket was reluctantly taken back. But that wasn't enough, one main course was wrong (probably an error in the booking process). We waited in vain for an apology - there was no information that the correct dish had been prepared. about 40!! Minutes later the real food came from the 4th person, while the rest of us had long since finished eating. My food came with the other 3 dishes as I ordered, but unfortunately the rump steak was almost completely cold - and I paid almost 30 euros for it! Overall just cheeky. The quality of the food itself was okay, but not worth the price. There was only nothing wrong with the beer, which was very tasty. The substandard service and the complete lack of hospitality pretty much spoiled the actually nice ambience, the view and the evening. If you want to avoid that, you should dine elsewhere.

Traditional brewery with a postcard-like view of Old Dresden located directly on the Elbe. Excellent beer and delicious food. Drinking under linden trees is how beer is supposed to be drunk. Prices reasonable.

Sugar cone festival celebrated today in Ballhaus Watzke. Very good organization, very good food and the service was mostly very good. Many activities for children with balloon figures, face painting and many other attractions. Thanks for the good organization. The price is also absolutely great.

I ordered the steak au four. What I got was beyond cheeky. The sauce on the steak was rather dry and the cheese looked like it had been waiting under the salamander for 30 minutes until we ate our starter. The beers were delicious, as was the view of the Elbe. The waiter was more than arrogant. A friendly hand signal is returned, explaining what that means. This was the last visit for us

After we had to organize the menu ourselves at the neighboring table in the beer garden, I wanted to show with a show of hands that we had a request. The waitress then mimicked me. Not to mention service or guest care, but you really don't have to put up with that. Really annoying experience like that. We then had a delicious halloumi pizza at Pizza Syndicate.

Terrible - have zero interest in the customers

It used to be great food and always the first port of call for a men's evening and today it's no longer worth a visit... unfortunately. Even the beer's taste has deteriorated over the years.

We were with you yesterday and wanted to thank Ms. Creutz again for the great service. We have rarely had such a great waitress with such a friendly smile on her face. We'd love to come back.

Knuckle of pork was good, but the Chicken Caesar Salad was a mess, with rock-hard pretzel croutons and swimming in dressing. The kicker was spending €18 for a minimalist ‘tour.’

The food is great so far, the beer tastes great too. Only the price increases are more noticeable in this restaurant than elsewhere Unfortunately only for special occasions, but the occupancy shows that it is apparently accepted by the market

The food was really great and in large portions. The house's home-made beers have a unique taste and the old German-style decorations are very numerous and you can tour the brewery and look over the brewers' shoulders. One point is deducted for the relatively long waiting times for the food. Otherwise TOP!

Today we were at Watzke am Goldenen Reiter. I haven't eaten such a delicious broiler with western fries in ages. Nice service and nice ambience.

Happy in the summer, cozy in the winter. Food has become better, just a brewery with good, fresh draft beer. Staff top. The dish of shank aspic and colorful lentil salad with feta was delicious.

The best beer in the region. The Altpieschner as well as the naturally cloudy Pilsner and the monthly beers are always a pleasure. The ambience is great, the stills can be seen from the dining room and the staff is friendly. Yesterday we went to the beer tasting (hence my high price rating. The tasting was 45 euros and the price-performance ratio was great. Normally you get an average of around 20-30 euros per person). Great evening. Very interesting, tasty and the brewer answered every question competently. We will be back definitely.

Had dinner on Saturday evening and with a lot of luck got 2 seats. At least that day it was really loud, you almost had to shout at each other to hear the other person. But there were probably a few birthday parties, so we are happy for them. Nice staff, asked if it tasted good and indeed it did. 🍖🍗🌭🍕🥘🍲

The ambience and the beer garden are very appealing. The food was very tasty and value for money was right. It is advisable to reserve a table. We were 7 people for dinner. 4 adults and 3 children, all very hungry. Unfortunately we had to wait almost 2 hours for our food. Apparently the knuckle we ordered was freshly braised. Hmm... it was definitely delicious

This was our second visit. The fries we ordered didn't arrive for an hour and a half. The garden was quite busy and service can be interrupted in such situations and delaying service at a reasonable time would be normal and acceptable. But we are not informed about this situation and are treated rudely. I think we as customers don't deserve that. If you treat tourists like this, you should put a notice at the entrance saying “Foreigners are not allowed” so we know where not to go. I hope this was just a service staff problem. This is a cozy and beautiful beer garden. Unfortunately, the positive impressions of our first visit disappeared with what we experienced on this visit.

A really nice location with a very nice beer garden. According to the menu, everything is homemade and of the best quality. The Wiener-style pork schnitzel is a ready-made product from the deep fryer and comes with lukewarm boiled potatoes with sauce and coarsely chopped al dente carrots for 19.50 euros, about 10 minutes after the drinks. The first beer tasted bitter, but it was a different drink. Definitely the first and last visit.🤷‍♂️

Anyone who comes to Dresden or lives in the area should have been to this location. Great ambience inside and in the beer garden on the Elbe cycle path with a view of the Frauenkirche. Friendly service staff and mostly on their toes. The beer is home-brewed and delicious. Pilsener and Altpieschener are available permanently, supplemented by one of the 12 changing monthly beers. The taste of the food is okay, but the quantity and selection have decreased dramatically over the last 10 years.

Nice, rustic restaurant with a cozy beer garden. Good selection of food. We'd love to come back. It's quite drafty in the beer garden, so there are blankets for that.

The waiter seated us at the front of the entrance after hearing that we just wanted something to drink. Lots of places but empty. A pity. 2 stars deducted for this, otherwise 5 stars.

Last stop on the Watzketour. With beer, schnapps and final dinner. What a celebration! The service was a bit sloppy, but everything else was perfect. Schnitzel was great, but the vegetable side dishes for all dishes were very tasteless and bland. All in all, the crowning conclusion of the Watzketour. We will be back!

Please indicate on the website that the opening times are only a guideline! Shortly after 10 p.m. we wanted to have 2 siphons filled, unfortunately all the chairs on the tables and doors were already locked. According to the website it is open until 11pm today.

The brewery is now a complete tourist rip-off! As a Dresdener, I don't know a worse restaurant when it comes to customer friendliness and service. Furthermore, the food is not worth the price/performance ratio and the beer is no longer what the brewery was all about.

I liked the Watzke for many years. The location is beautiful and the beer garden is great too. However, unprofessional and condescending behavior from our waitress on Saturday evening. Our political views were thrown at us without being asked. We paid quickly and left. Unbearable. I had to be very ashamed of the Ballhaus Watzke.

Delicious home-brewed beer in different types and a different one on offer every month! Fast and friendly service and 3 houses in Dresden! Unfortunately, like everywhere else, the prices have gone through the roof 😕

We come here quite often and always love the atmosphere! Service is 1A. The Altpieschener is always booked anyway and the menu is varied. However, the steak a four could have a little more seasoning. But that's just my personal tip... 😅
