Typical German restaurant. We tried several dishes, all good, and the pork shank was excellent. The service was excellent, fast, and spartan. Alessio served us, kind and friendly. The atmosphere was very friendly. Prices were medium to high.

A must-visit in Sachsenhausen with a typical atmosphere centered around the national drink, apple wine. Unfortunately, the food is a bit lacking and lacks flavor.

(Visited January 1, 2026) We wanted to have lunch at a restaurant in the Sachsenhausen area, but since it was January 1st, no other restaurants were open, so we chose this place. There were a lot of tourists like us, so we arrived early for lunch. After our food arrived, we noticed that the restaurant was already crowded. If you're four or more people, you can share a table, but if you're one or two, you're asked to share a table, and it seems they start filling the table in front of you instead of your preferred seat. We were seated right by the door for two, and fortunately, they didn't require you to share a table. As the reviews suggest, the waiter wasn't very friendly, but the food was above average. The schnitzel was about my third time in Germany, and it was good. The sausage was quite salty, so I definitely recommend it with mashed potatoes. The Apfelwein cider is available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions for €2.90. The non-alcoholic version is a bit bland, but since it was my first time trying it, it's hard to compare. Please note that tips are accepted by writing them down at the bottom of the receipt.

The food was surprisingly good. Unfortunately, there was very little sauce on the schnitzel. Although it's a very touristy place, and we knew that beforehand, we were pleasantly surprised. Friendly service, delicious food, and a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food arrived very inconsistently; friends told us this is often the case there. I wouldn't go there for a quiet evening with the family. It's perfect for a large group of friends who want to have a drink or two.

I am truly disappointed at the service in this establishment, upon entering the restaurant we were (quite literally) pushed by the workers to move out of the way and had to wait even though we had a reservation. A man with greyish hair seemed especially unfriendly and did not acknowledge us being there. We had to stand there for about 5 minutes before a blonde lady brought us to our seats. She seemed very indifferent to us being there and did not give a smile or anything.we were brought to share a table with 4 strangers. We did not receive any menus when we sat down and it seemed very rushed. We had to ask another server twice for menus and he responded with ‘relax, I’ll come to you’ in a condescending tone. We then had to wait another 4 minutes before receiving them (a while later another group had to ask for our menus because apparently they had not received them either) while ordering we felt ignored as the server did not say anything and seemed to be frowning. When we got our drinks the order was wrong. The dishes were okay but seemed slightly over salted. And at that point we just wanted to leave. We asked for our bill which we had to wait a while for. We even tried to ask the blonde lady and she simply walked away! When we left we said goodbye to them and they ignored us. Throughout our time here we did not feel welcomed and although the service could be excused by how busy the restaurant was, we felt especially turned away. We would highly recommend that you turn away from this restaurant and choose somewhere else.

While the traces of time are indelible, I enjoyed the convenience and comfort built up through years of experience, allowing me to relax and unwind. While it's a bit far from the city center, I was able to fully experience the charm of Strasbourg while reducing my physical exhaustion with a day pass for the frequent trams. I was deeply grateful for the staff's friendly service and friendly demeanor. If you're looking for a budget-friendly place to stay, I highly recommend it.

The service was very friendly but a bit slow – it took a good 10 minutes to order another drink. The soup with Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) was delicious, as was the red cabbage. The Wiener Schnitzel was decent, the potatoes average, and the portions large. Unfortunately, there were no children's meals. The Cordon Bleu was very tasty and seemed homemade, but it fell apart very easily. I ended up eating it with a spoon. The pork knuckle arrived 30 minutes late, so one person had to eat alone. The food before it also didn't arrive all at once, but gradually over the course of 15 minutes. That was a bit annoying. The ambiance is nice, but the atmosphere was somewhat hectic and really loud. Sure, that's typical of breweries, especially at Christmas, but being constantly pushed out of the way by cooks who also seem to be waiting tables with an annoyed "Attention!" is unpleasant, especially when children are around (you do have to stand next to the tables briefly to take off your jackets). I probably wouldn't come back.

It was very atmospheric, just like we imagined a bustling German bar to be, but the cider wasn't impressive. The Egg here was highly hyped and praised, but don't expect anything extraordinary. The schrudel, however, was quite decent!

The mash potato were instant. The shnitzl are great. Pork knuckle came out way later but tasted good. Kept the drinks flowing at least as we waited for dishes.

The classic among apple wine pubs

This was my second visit, and each time it's been a positive experience. This time I was alone and lucky enough to find a table that became available immediately. I highly recommend making a reservation, as the restaurant is almost always full, even outside in December. The apple wine arrived quickly and was very tasty, and at €2.90, it was reasonably priced. Unfortunately, they were out of the daily special, beef roulades, so I opted for the classic veal schnitzel with green sauce. Both the meat and the sauce were exceptional; the green sauce added a wonderful zest to the dish, and it simply tasted fantastic. For dessert, I had gingerbread mousse, which was also delicious. Next time, though, I'll just have some of the hazelnut schnapps. I'll definitely be back!

Food was great. Vegan options really good. Only, be warned, no beer, but they have a wonderful apple wine.

Food is overpriced that’s why I am giving 3star

I ate here today with my friends. The food was delicious, and the price was quite good for Frankfurt. The apple wine was also very tasty. What I found very disappointing, and what prompted me to give it two stars, is that we wanted to play cards, but we were forbidden from doing so. I simply don't understand this. I think playing cards is a must in an apple wine garden. It's a real shame. I don't know if I'll go there again.

I recently ate there and, unfortunately, wasn't impressed. The food was mediocre at best and didn't arrive at the table piping hot. The service was unfriendly and generally inattentive – there's definitely room for improvement. Furthermore, the restaurant was very noisy, which made the experience even more unpleasant. Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant. With a little more friendliness and attention to detail, it could certainly be a much better place.

Everything was perfect as always, just as we've come to expect for years. Keep it up! It's a shame there are only 5 stars to give.

I just gave 3 stars because one of the waiters treat me very bad , when I asked him what is apfelwine! He treated me with a certain disdain, as if I were obligated to know about the drink.

Cider tasted more like flat wine. Ordered a sausage dish that came with mashed potato. Tasted bland and stale. Had to drink cider after every single bite to wash it down. Other people in the group ordered Schnitzel which was a bit better but nothing worth mentioning. The waiter wasn't exactly rude but more like he was bored and didn't enjoy what he was doing. Bonus fact: Toilets that look escape pods from sci-fi movie!

We were very disappointed with the service this time. The waiter already seemed annoyed at 5 pm. He answered our questions about the menu reluctantly and rather briefly. The food arrived quickly and was good. With six people, conversation was impossible because it was so loud. After the waiter reminded us that the table would be reserved for someone else in half an hour, we paid. He didn't like the €5 tip (which was actually too much considering his rudeness) and asked, who knows what, if we weren't satisfied with his service. You don't need to put up with this kind of service, even if the food is good. We've never experienced anything like this there before; it's a shame. I won't be back anytime soon.

Apple wine (tasted like apple cider) was their specialty. They also serve wines (sparkling, white, & red wines) but no beer. I noticed in the fully seated restaurant, most people just ordered the Apple wine and not food. The server were pushing the "special": goose (while goose for 4 people) not on menu. We also ordered rindwurst (beef sausage, pork knuckle, spare ribs, veal schnitzel. The goose leg was yummy!, however, the grilled spare ribs were hard & dried as if it has been deep fried after grilled. The knuckle also seemed to have been flash fried after braised. It got crispy skin but overall the meat was dried out. We had better beef sausage at the food stand than the one we had here. The schnitzel was a messy fried job. (I felt like the one thing should be fried well was not done right). The fried batter were oily and wet, fell off. This place maybe best as pre-dinner aperitif or post dinner digestive.

It was aesthetically pleasing, but the welcome was terrible, so we decided to leave. I wouldn't recommend it.

Review: Restaurant Wagner, Frankfurt I was at Restaurant Wagner last night with three friends. The cider tavern is cozy, the atmosphere is convivial, and we were served very kindly by a Thai server throughout the evening. However, an unpleasant situation arose at the end: Three drinks were apparently missing from the bill, and the head waiter suddenly approached our table in an extremely aggressive manner. He slammed the bill down on us, was loud and unfriendly – ​​both to us and to his colleague. At first, we didn't understand what was going on, and the atmosphere was completely ruined. As we were leaving, I confronted him about it. He explained the mistake and eventually apologized, but his behavior was completely inappropriate and unbecoming of a reputable establishment. Conclusion: It was a very pleasant and cozy evening overall, but the head waiter's behavior unfortunately left a negative impression.

In my opinion, the food is rather average, but the prices are still fair.

A classic Sachsenhausen cider tavern with everything you'd expect: simple, down-to-earth cuisine, a typical menu with the usual suspects, and daily specials. You'll also find dishes that stray a bit from the classic home-style cooking. I had a really decent tuna steak, for example. Prices are all in the solid mid-range. One real drawback, however, is the noise level. Especially during peak hours, it can get very loud, so much so that you sometimes practically have to shout to hear the person opposite you. If you can live with that, though, it's a good, reliable place for an evening of cider and classic food.

Honestly, who gives this place more than 4 stars? We were a party of four on a Saturday lunchtime with a reservation. Our order was taken quickly, and the first dish arrived promptly. Unfortunately, the other three dishes arrived about 10 minutes apart, meaning the first ones were already finished, but the last one still hadn't received their food. The meat quality and preparation were on par with the lower end of a commercial kitchen. Sorry, but that's not good enough. Our recommendation: Frankfurt has many excellent regional restaurants. I would give zero stars if I could! The food was served cold and it was the worst service I've ever experienced! The waiter tried to charge us for the food from the other table because they left without paying and tried to blame us for it! It was so absurd!!! Never again!

Everything was fine, but the waiter was miserable, as he lied to us that they were closing in 1 hour to kick us out, but we sat outside anyway. And the highlight of the disgrace is that in the end, instead of bringing the change from the bill, he brought less and simply asked with a laugh if it was okay. Visited Adolf Wagner, also known as Apfelwein Wagner – Traditionslokal seit 1931, and it took us a moment to realise both names referred to the same place! Once we figured it out, we were glad we went — the experience was great from start to finish. We ordered the Ribs and Sauerkraut, and when it arrived, the “pork chop ribs” turned out to be exactly what we were expecting. It absolutely did not disappoint — incredibly soft, full of flavour, and complemented perfectly by the sauerkraut. We also tried some of the classic Frankfurt dishes, which were just as enjoyable. I also really liked the apple wine here compared to other places — it wasn’t too sour or vinegary. Instead, it was smooth, balanced, and genuinely easy to drink. Service was excellent, too. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted immediately and shown straight to a table despite the busy atmosphere. A wonderful traditional spot with delicious food, great apple wine, and warm service — definitely worth a visit!

If someone ask me to recommend a German restaurant in town, this is the place. Typical German restaurant with bit more options for the food and drinks compare to some other nearby German restaurants. Been there as a tourist, visitor, and a local, with always different group of people. Always pleasant experience.

Food was average, once i had schnizzel, that one was ok, second time I have local sausages, these were almost missing taste, as there was lack of spices/seasoning. Don't have any beer so they can sell their production of apple wine, which don't have very consistent taste. But to be honest elsewhere i drunk worse. Atmosphere is quite loud but that typical.

This well-known local German restaurant has decent food but poor service. They are relatively unfriendly to Asians. If you ask for a 10% tip, they insist on increasing it to 15%. It's advisable to avoid this restaurant, which is suspected of racial discrimination.

Revisit Adolf Wagner (Apfelwein) at Frankfurt after 15 years. The atmosphere is hearty, rustic and communal — long wooden benches, lively chatter, a mix of locals and international visitors. We dined here for three consecutive evenings, enjoy the dinner with the locals, great atmosphere.

Ordered the pork sniztechel with gober sauce (green herb sauce) and sourkraout! The green gobern sauce tasted very greeny Herby cucumber taste! The sniztechel was good and fried well. Great service

When the food arrives after two minutes, you know it must have come from the microwave... the food was also very dry and tasteless. However, the service was very friendly and the interior was nice. Overall, a real tourist trap.

I visited Wagner again after many years, and unfortunately, it's deteriorated compared to how it used to be. The ambiance in the back has the charm of a tavern with a tent roof – not rustic or cozy at all. The staff seemed very annoyed and stressed, whether taking orders or serving. The food for six people arrived at different times, scattered over several minutes – that shouldn't happen. I would describe it as mass production – it simply lacks the feel of an authentic Frankfurt apple wine tavern. It reminds me more of a tourist restaurant. I wish the place had a bit more heart and soul. But that's not to be expected these days. A shame.

I went to this restaurant by myself for dinner on Sunday evening, October 26, 2025. Overall, the restaurant was quite busy and noisy (can be either good or bad depending on your preference), the food was "OK" level vs their amazing reviews, and if I can be honest, the service was horrible. I can say it was the worst service experience of my life. I don't know if this is normal in Frankfurt, or it might be because I am Asian, as they seemed nice to other non Asian customers. When I got there, I needed to talk to at least 4 staff to be seated. Their attitude was quite rude; A guy saw me waiting at the entrance, looked disappointed as if I were a dirty homeless person, and ignored me even though I made eye contact and smiled at him. Another guy saw me influenced to go "go inside, not here!", so I went inside, and then a woman in the inside area aggressively said "go front!", so I needed to go back to the entrance. The only guy who found me a table was friendly. However, again, the guy who took my order was rude, too. He didn't greet or explain the menu situation in advance. It seemed the weekly menu was all sold out, but he didn't tell me, and when I was going to order one of them, he just said "no". I needed to ask what they have, as he didn't tell me that either. When he brought me a drink and a dish I ordered, he didn't say anything, and almost threw the dish. And when I paid, I tried to say "Thank you", but he didn't even see my face and left. I ordered a glass of apple wine and Frankfurter Schnitzel. The wine was good, but the Schnitzel wasn't worth paying 21.2 euros. The green sauce, which came with and cost extra, tasted like grass in a park, and the Schnitzel was greasy, not crispy at all. The potato that came on the side was surprisingly good tho. Even though the restaurant has a history, good evaluations, and is popular, I do not recommend This place is my family and friends', and I'll never come back. (I've had better ones in the past.) The accompanying fries were incredibly delicious, so if you order them, I recommend the cheaper option without sauce, fries by themselves, or another menu item. The apple wine was delicious. No matter how famous the restaurant is, the service was terrible and the food was mediocre, so I personally don't recommend it and will never go there again. I'm sure there are many better restaurants out there.

I visited to try Apfelwein. Even though it was 8 p.m. on a weekday, it was packed. Apfelwein is similar to White Ein, but with a slightly more tart and sour flavor. It's worth trying one or two glasses. The schnitzel was thin but crispy and delicious. However, eating a lot left me feeling greasy. It was similar to Namsan Donkatsu. The side potatoes were well-cooked but a bit salty. The green sauce tasted like a mixture of green juice and cream. It helped to tone down the schnitzel's richness.

We had lunch there on a weekday. Classic atmosphere, friendly service and very tasty dishes. We listened to the advice of the waiter, Mr. Giannis, and got a stuffed schnitzel and a beef cutlet with sweet potatoes and salad. All very good and at a good price. It serves cider - not beer. We will go back on our next trip!

There were three of us and we had to wait forever to order because the waiter just ran past us. The three meals all arrived at considerable intervals, one after the other. The green sauce with eggs was delicious, and the fried potatoes were basically the same, but unfortunately only lukewarm. My husband ordered Frankfurter Schnitzel, which was tasty, but the green sauce was forgotten. We were only able to complain once the plate was cleared. The waiter's reply: "I'll bring it later." We were charged anyway. Since we had to catch our train, we unfortunately couldn't complain, so we paid the full amount on the table and left. We won't be coming back. There are plenty of better alternatives.

Huge, delicious food, good cider

If you like event catering... I found it unpleasantly loud, crowded, and hectic...

Very busy restaurant but service was still pretty fast, and friendly. Full with locals and an occasional tourist.

Great restaurant on Schweizer Straße, good food and service, a Frankfurt staple. Unfortunately, I'm losing out because they don't serve beer, only red and white wines and apple wine. Still, a great location with delicious food.

The food was truly amazing – everything fresh, delicious, and typically Hessian. The apple wine was also excellent, just as you'd expect! Unfortunately, the overall experience was somewhat marred by the tight seating in the garden and on the terrace. You can tell they're trying to maximize the space, but it's simply too uncomfortable. Especially for older people, it's difficult to sit down or get up from the narrow benches, and you often have to get up to let others through. This unfortunately makes it difficult to eat in peace and enjoy your visit. Our service was also a bit reserved – a little more friendliness would have made the whole thing much more pleasant. It's a shame, because with a little more space and friendlier service, it would be a truly great place.
