Apfelwein Dax in Frankfurt am Main

I had a stopover in Frankfurt to watch Athletic Scotland and decided to discover the city. At lunchtime I was near this place that was highly rated and I went in. The decoration is beautiful...German style. The first thing they showed me was that the restaurant did not accept credit cards... Well into the 21st century. I wanted to eat something typical so I looked at the menu and my choice couldn't have been worse. Two pieces of hard pork shoulder, a green sauce that didn't add anything and two small pieces of cooked potatoes. With a beer 22 euros. Perhaps my expression of disgust at the waitress was excessive, but the disappointment was huge.

Nice service, we were greeted in a friendly manner. Ate hand cheese with music, and that was also delicious. I didn't know. There were four of us and all the dishes were great. For those who care, the toilets were clean. 👍👍👍👍👍

Typical Frankfurt Äppelwoi pub, where locals, regulars and insiders come, far away from the tourist bars. Either just for a glass (or a few) or with exceptionally good Hessian food! The service is attentive and very friendly. But reservations are an advantage, especially in the evening!

Love this restaurant. The decor is very unique and interesting, very much a hub of Frankfurt Culture so would definitely recommend to tourists like myself. The food was very good, Apfelwein was cheap (€2.50) and also very good. My meal with 2 Apfelweins came to about €20. The waitress who served me was lovely, she spoke English but I wanted to practice my German, she was very patient and friendly and when I didn't understand she switched to English which I appreciated. It was very busy, I went on a Tuesday evening and it was packed. I didn't book beforehand, I had to share a table with some other people but I appreciated that they could fit me in even with it being so busy. Oh and the food came very quickly too! Would definitely recommend.

Great restaurant, cool decor, was definitely something different. Super friendly staff, the food (Jägerschnitzel with fresh mushrooms) was a dream. Price/performance top. It wasn't the last time I was there. 😄👍

I had to walk two blocks to the ATM and back because they don’t accept Visa or Mastercard. It’s definitely not a technical issue - it must be a deliberate decision by the restaurant owner to save 2% on payment commission (and taxes?) at the expense of their guests’ convenience. Hence the negative feedback and no tip.

The restaurant has a rustic, original Frankfurt feel. The cider and the food taste good, and even if it's quite busy, you don't have to wait long for your delicious meal.

Nice cozy pub with good home-style food and cider from jugs. Perfect for a fun evening with friends. There was a good atmosphere on Saturday evening, but not necessarily room volume.

Dîner du 19/03/25, L'endroit est bien situé dans une petite rue typique allemande peu passante pas très loin de l'arrêt de tram. L'accueil est très bien, la serveuse très sympathique qui parle anglais. L'attente était moyenne, c'est peu être le seul bémol. Tous les plats commandés étaient très bon avec une mention spéciale au veau zurichois. En conclusion : je recommande.

Rustic classic in Frankfurt, where you can enjoy the beautiful Frankfurt style including very good food and cider. The shop is very bright but has a pleasantly quirky decoration - check it out 😅

We travel from Nuremberg to Sachsenhausen once a year and then the DAX is a must and highlight for us. The overall composition gets 6 out of 5 stars from us!😉 Service 1a, food unbeatably delicious, ambience is cult! We'll be back! THANK YOU for the lovely evening!

You can go there and have a nice evening. But there are also better cider bars. Unfortunately, some dishes on the menu can't keep up.

Google Maps shows them open until midnight. Get there at 10:25pm, and already closed. Kitchen closed. “A long time ago!” 25 minutes is long ago??? Apparently whenever they want. SMH. For a country and a people so anal retentive about rules and following stupid ones to the letter, this is apparently an exception! So stupid! Just a waste of time. Completely unreliable information on Google. Which makes this restaurant completely unreliable for a traveler looking for an open restaurant. Useless.

The food was amazing and the service was top notch too! It is a popular schnitzel place among locals and tourists and has a very cozy and traditional atmosphere. Highly recommended and I will come back with other visitors

I was just there for a Frankfurter Schnitzel with a Schoppe, went in without expecting anything and was surprised. Very tasty and cool place!

Just what a typical German gaststube should be, good food and drinks, a friendly atmosphere and affordable.

The service is very friendly and focused on the clients. The dishes are very well served and the atmosphere is very relaxed and nice. I recommend the Schnitzels with sauce and fries. They don't accept payments with cards only cash.

Unfreundliche Bedienung, komische Atmosphäre. Das Essen ist zumindest in Ordnung, wenn man Appetit auf etwas in der Richtung hat. Service ist leider nicht ganz so sympathisch.

Wir haben unseren gemeinsamen Jahresabschluß auf dem Weihnachtsmarkt begonnen - traditionell wechseln wir anschließend dann in eine Lokalität in Frankfurt. Diesesmal haben wir uns für das Lokal Apfelwein Dax entschieden. Frühzeitig reserviert haben wir auch einen guten Platz im Lokal bekommen - erster Eindruck: typische Apfelweinkneipe (durchaus positiv) mit netter Deko. Unsere junge, freundliche Bedienung für unseren Tisch hat alles gut im Griff gehabt und jederzeit zügig auf unsere Bestellungen reagiert - gelernt ist gelernt! Die unterschiedlichen Speisen sind durchweg gut angekommen. Unser Aufenthalt mit reichlich Essen und Trinken hat allen Teilnehmern recht gut gefallen. Die Wahl vom Dax war wirklich gut - gerne wieder.

The food (Frankfurter Schnitzel and ribs) was very tasty. But the meat could have been more tender and the schnitzels could have been thinner. The service was quick and friendly. The ambience is typical of a cider bar. All in all good.

In a small alley, hidden between old buildings, was this cozy restaurant that immediately captivated me with its warm atmosphere. The furnishings - rustic and full of loving details - radiated a homely coziness, just right on a cold winter evening. The smell of hearty food was in the air, and we decided on a colorful selection: baked Camembert, meatloaf and schnitzel with cream mushrooms. The Camembert was golden brown and crispy on the outside, wonderfully creamy on the inside, perfect with the fruity cranberry sauce. The Leberkäse – hearty and with a crispy crust – tasted like it had been fresh from the pan, accompanied by a touch of mustard. The schnitzel was tender, the cream mushrooms were full-bodied and perfectly seasoned. Plus a glass of refreshing apple cider – uncomplicated and authentic, like the whole evening. Despite the full house, the service was attentive and warm. This place knows how to offer more than just food - it invites you to feel like you are part of a big, living table. A winter evening that couldn't have been better.

You can actually still find Frankfurt tradition here. I always enjoy coming here. The only downside is the volume when it's full here, which it almost always is! Oh and the Brezelbub actually has Haddekuche ❤️

Nice apple wine restaurant in Sachsenhausen. Our bowling club’s Christmas party took place there. We were very satisfied. The food tasted very good. The apple cider is also very tasty. The service was also great.

We managed to get a table for the third Sunday evening despite not having a reservation. Service was quick and good. Food was very tasty and value for money was good.

We actually come often and are usually very satisfied. Unfortunately there have been problems with reservations recently. Today we stood in a completely empty restaurant at 12:05, but were turned away because “everything” was supposedly reserved for 1 p.m. That was disappointing and seems poorly planned - resulting in avoidable losses in sales and frustration among guests. We hope you improve this point, otherwise we really enjoy visiting you!

The Apfelwein Dax restaurant is a good address in Frankfurt if you want to order typical Frankfurt dishes and apple wine. The service is always attentive. During the last visit, our group also included visitors from abroad. Without us asking, the waitress brought us an extra menu in English. Really attentive and friendly! The food and drinks have always been very good and tasty. Extra requests such as changed side dishes will also be taken into account. The interior walls of the restaurant are decorated with numerous signs from the past. In the warmer seasons, the restaurant also has a large courtyard that invites you to linger. Overall, I always enjoy coming here!

Cool location...the food was delicious and the service was in a good mood. We were there with a larger group of 3 dogs and the dogs immediately got water and treats. Super dog friendly! Gladly again

We arrived on a busy Saturday night without reservations, but staff was able to squeeze the 3 of us in. The food was excellent, the portions were large, the staff was helpful and charming. Two of us shared a weinerschnitzel with grilled onions, which came with home style mashed potatoes and a green salad. The other meal was 2 wurst with a large portion of saurkraute and mashed potatoes.

Some of the food isn't great. For example, the steak is much too thin for this price and the fries are very thin things. The waitress constantly improves and asked us "if we didn't know where we were".. it was an apple wine bar. Yes, we were aware of it, but you can order a large Appelwoi, you can't know that there are only 0.3l glasses. Same with coffee... I get bullied for asking for a large coffee. You can only ask for coffee there... A colleague asked for a slice of lemon for the cola. There would be no lemons. But there are lemon slices on a lot of plates, strange. I have rarely felt so reprimanded and taken for a fool. It may be that there are typical rules in an Appelwoik pub, but that can be solved with more charm and service. Ordering individual Apelwoi glasses is also not recommended, rather order Bembel. The less contact with the condition, the better. We were there 10 years ago and I didn't notice it. Maybe it was down to the performance of the individual operator. We ordered drinks several times and they didn't come. Strangely enough, the small bottles of cola always arrived promptly and correctly. The hand cheese with music was great, I have to say. And there are mispers, that's of course a good thing. The service could be a bit cooler, in my opinion. The air inside gets thin pretty quickly. A little more ventilation would be good.

Is it a local restaurant? There weren't many people at first, but it filled up and a table of 4 people joined me, and I was alone. It's called Franconian Beer, a small brewery beer, and it's unique and delicious.

For me personally the best apple wine bar in Frankfurt. Super cozy and attentive service. The food is delicious, the drinks are great and on top of that the prices are very fair.

We ate very well in this typical restaurant. It's a very friendly place. The specialties are very well explained and they are very good. Thanks to the blonde waitress for these tips. We had a great time. If we come back to Frankfurt we will return to this restaurant with pleasure.

A quaint restaurant with a great atmosphere on a Tuesday evening. Full to the last seat - it was worth reserving. I thought our waitress was great because she was very attentive, not intrusive and very friendly. We both found the food (coarse sausages, puree, sauerkraut & schnitzel, fried potatoes) extremely tasty. The dessert (vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce & warm chocolate cake) was the crowning glory. The delicious apple cider that accompanied us throughout the evening was also very tasty. Definitely go here!

Incredibly bad service with an incredibly rude and unfriendly waiter. (Gentleman with dark hair and glasses) First I would like to mention the positive, because there wasn't much of it... The food was really great in terms of quality, quantity and taste. There is nothing to complain about here. Big praise to the kitchen, because it did a great job here. The kitchen alone deserves the two stars. Now for the negative points. First of all, you should train your employees thoroughly in terms of friendliness. The waiter assigned to us was completely overwhelmed by the situation. Some of us sat for 40 minutes without even being allowed to order. When the waitress asked, the only response was “fine, I’ll run back and forth 10 times for the other table”. You were still not allowed to order. When it was finally possible to order, the waiter responded to simple requests like: “Could I please get a fork with my hand cheese?” cheekily with: “You can’t eat it with a fork” in a tone that I have never experienced in the restaurant industry have. There were a few more situations like this. Every penny tip is really too much when you consider how much money we left in this restaurant. I really can't recommend anyone to have a company party here. I can't judge the regular operation when 2-4 people eat. All in all very disappointing, food great, service a disaster, seats very uncomfortable. A lot of potential is wasted here due to the extremely cheeky, disorganized waiter.

Having moved from Frankfurt decades ago, it was even nicer to have spent lovely hours with friends and delicious food here in this very cozy cider bar. Absolutely recommended, the friendly and super attentive service also rounded off this stay positively. Price/performance is completely okay.

We loved the place, the local food was delicious, it had a warm atmosphere. Although it was very crowded, the service was fast and the lady who took care of us was very helpful. 50:50 was prepared with beef as we requested, although it was normally pork on the menu.

Great Ebbelwoi Schänke with a good restaurant. The portions are large enough and I liked the Frankfurter Schnitzel Deluxe made from veal. In terms of price, the whole thing is at an average level. 21€ for the schnitzel. It's OK. The employees there are all very friendly and patient. There is a star deduction for the ambience because there is a high noise level. Which of course also speaks for the store that it is full on Monday evenings. I was also pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the toilets. I would like to come here again. Parking is difficult here, so I would recommend public transport. Oh yes, dogs are welcome here.
