Fantastic cuisine and a super friendly host. Highly recommended.

My friend suggested this restaurant, and I was skeptical at first because it's called Café Friends. I wondered if the food would be as good in a café. 🥴... It was the best decision. The restaurant is located in a side street, with a great atmosphere. The owners are super friendly, and the food is absolutely amazing. I had a steak like I'd never eaten before, and the side salad with the house dressing was absolutely delicious. The price is almost too cheap for the quality you get there.

To put it briefly, the owner is Dutch, the landlady German. And you get the best of both cultures, and not just in terms of food. Good beer... great steaks and schnitzels... perfect fries... Dutch, uncomplicated hospitality... structured yet creative cuisine. Nestled in the beautiful Zeller atmosphere, you can simply enjoy yourself here. Don't be confused by the café sign... you'll experience truly great food here.

A very cozy little restaurant with very friendly owners. We had a good and very affordable meal. There's also a much wider selection of excellent meat dishes, also at good prices. The staff were happy to have a chat. We would definitely go back.

There were eight of us looking for a restaurant (across the street, at the cheerful vineyard), but we were turned away (too many people), so we asked at Cafe Friends. The lady there then said... "Because you didn't get anything over there, are you coming to us now? You don't need to! Besides, we're closing soon." The gentleman sitting there, perhaps the owner, made a few more comments, and we were so stunned that we couldn't even respond. Definitely not recommended!

I was truly impressed! The schnitzel with fries was super delicious and perfectly prepared. The service was absolutely top-notch – friendly, attentive, and fast. The value for money was also excellent; you really get value for your money. The location is also very nice and inviting. All in all, a fantastic experience – I'll be back!

Been here a few times, the food is delicious

The food was super delicious. When we wanted to go to the restaurant with our dog last year, we were denied entry because the dog was a little wet. Years ago, when the restaurant first opened, that wasn't a problem. They were happy when guests came, even with a slightly wet dog. Since then, friends have died for us.

After receiving a somewhat unfriendly "welcome" from the "innkeeper" across the street, we went to Friends. All I can say is: The host is super friendly. The cook is sensational and friendly. I had veal liver... the best I've ever eaten. My wife had a steak, which was also very good. The salad plate before it was very good. Very well thought out. Two dressings available and varied. For me, it's quite clear... when we're in Zell, we'll eat here. They simply did everything right.

We two Erkelenz residents ate here three times out of four days. We absolutely had to try the swirled steak with glazed onions and garlic twice. Incredibly delicious and prepared with love. Kudos to the amazing cook and the friendly host. Highly recommended!

I've rarely eaten such a good schnitzel with side dishes. You can tell immediately that everything is freshly prepared. Even the salad dressing is homemade, not a ready-made product! This small restaurant is run with a lot of love, and you can feel it as a guest, and you feel very comfortable here.

The goulash was simply perfect! Even though we left a cell phone there and had to drive quite a long way back, we have very fond memories of the visit. A real recommendation.

I love this restaurant. The meals are amazing whether it you order Rump steak( a family favorite) or a lighter Salmon plate. You won’t be disappointed this is the food you wished your Mother made. Be reminded all restaurants and Shops on the Mosel have limited hours during slow seasons. Check with them or better yet call ahead and make reservations

In any case! I had the house specialty. Jack Daniels Steak, actually it's a sin to eat an excellent steak with a sauce, but the Jack Daniels sauce is awesome. Very nice staff (owner) and excellent food. There were six of us and every dish was excellent. Highly recommended.

Price-performance is still very important here. Good home cooking and mega portions. Taste simply heavenly. Quality great and very well made. Top chef who puts in a lot of effort and cooks with passion and a great host who always has an easy-going saying up his sleeve. They are a well-rehearsed team and are always very friendly and in a good mood. I've been coming here for years and have always been more than satisfied. Top and 5 stars... More than deserved!!!

Today we looked for somewhere to eat in the “2nd row” in Zell and were very positively surprised!! Had veal liver and pork salmon with flambéed mushrooms and cognac cream sauce. Everything was perfectly cooked, plentiful, with a large, delicious salad and a bottle of wine. Price/performance sensational, we can only recommend it!!!

Wauwwwww everything fresh daily and made with effort and love. So many goodies you can't choose in cozy Hollywood with Moselle mix style ;) Lovely benches and cozy layout for some privacy, neat toilet. really lots of choice mmmm actually just go every day. Portions are generous. Even the sakades with dressing are yum. Friendly. Dutch and BE owners who really put love into it. Eg Angus beef etc great!!! And stew with game or something for the vegetarian. 100% recommended to enjoy for years to come! Dear all

Another great evening in Zell with Birgit and Maarten. We had a great Jack Daniels beef fillet (the sauce is amazing) and a great rump steak. Plus delicious Moselle wine. Everything is great. And it's always great to chat with both of them. Everything just fits there. Gladly again. M&R

That doesn't work at all!!! I asked (ok - a little late - 1:18 a.m.) whether there would be anything available at 6 p.m. on New Year's Eve. Was something ironed out in writing. After I reported the reduced tone, I was threatened with stalking charges. THAT'S NOT THE WAY TO MAKE FRIENDS.

Today we ate at Cafe Friends with four people and our dog. Excellent food, very nice hosts and a pleasant atmosphere. It couldn't be better in Zell, we'll be happy to come back.

A desperate search for a restaurant with home-style cuisine in Zell/Mosel led us to Café Friends. We immediately felt at home when we entered the restaurant and were greeted warmly by the owner. It is small but very comfortable. Before ordering, we were advised of additional dishes that were not on the menu. My wife ordered the cream schnitzel with fresh mushrooms, fries and salad. I treated myself to a 450g entrecôte with glazed onions, fries and salad. The salad alone was great, crisp and fresh with a nice dressing. When our main course arrived, we were already amazed by the look and smell. It tasted great, I've rarely eaten so well. We come from Nahe, about 50km away, but will definitely come again just for the food. Thank you two. P.S. The cook deserves a raise ;-)

A cute little restaurant with a super nice host/innkeeper. We had goulash and entrecote. It was exceptional, as was the delicious salad. You can tell that the cooking here is still done with love and, above all, that everything is made from scratch. Absolutely clear recommendation! Excellent food like “among friends”. Very friendly owner (also speaks Dutch) in a small restaurant in a cozy atmosphere. Reservations are not possible, so just go early. We both had a very tasty goulash, good portion and very, very tasty. Thank you for this delicious meal in a cozy atmosphere.

Super friendly :), we immediately felt at home after being turned away by the neighbor. The food was delicious, the salad was a dream. It was a bit tight because of the stroller, but the two of them got everything out again. Great people :) who then wanted to “earn money” ;)! We'd love to come back when we're in the area again.

Mega!!! After we only ended up here by chance because the unfriendly neighbor threw us out again, we were served very nicely. The food was very tasty and definitely home-cooked, my husband had the best veal liver and the cognac cream sauce for the delicious schnitzel was incredibly tasty! Rarely have we met such nice hosts...we will definitely be back next year.

Unfortunately no stars, grumpy rejection that there was no service outside because it rained three drops... it was really nothing... and we weren't welcome inside with our dogs... Then not, good if you do can afford to scare away guests. We will avoid this restaurant even without dogs...

Zero stars from us! Sunday 5:50 p.m. Innkeeper said he didn't have any room left. From the table next door, a guest said: “Our table is free, we’re paying now.” I look at the boss, she says “No, now fire evening”. And that was at 10 to 6 in the evening, with the restaurant opening at 5 p.m. Would rename the place “Café without Friends”!

The Cafe Friends – what a surprise!!! Last week, on our penultimate day of vacation, we discovered this small restaurant in Zell by chance and actually “got” one of the four (five) tables. You really have to be lucky here, as reservations are not possible. And what can I say – it’s worth it. Rarely have we felt so comfortable straight away. Cozy atmosphere, very friendly service (the owner is great to chat with) and not to forget the really, really delicious food. The cooking here is still fresh and you can tell. A big thank you to the excellent cook. For us it was a very nice evening where everything really went well. Absolutely recommended. I was skeptical at first, but the food was a dream. Regardless of whether it was the venison goulach or the Burgundy goulash, I have never eaten anything better. The meat is very tender and the sauce is a dream. The dumplings, red cabbage... Everything fresh and prepared with a lot of love. We'll definitely be back.

Actually the store doesn't deserve a star. Unfortunately, this doesn't work here. You are turned away directly at the table and no visitors are welcome without food. Although we still hadn't decided not to eat here. ... disaster at the store. Sorry, but it can't or shouldn't work like that. ... there can be no talk of mealtime. It was around 2:30 p.m. and there was no one in sight. Yes... we have always had respect until now. I also have a lot of understanding for a lack of staff or similar.

We have been to Cafe Friends many times and have always been 100% satisfied. Today it tasted very tasty again; A big compliment to the cook and to Marten, who, as always, served us very nicely and courteously.

Un-German tasty food. They have a cozy little terrace in a side street of the shopping street. There is some space inside. There are a few tables outside and that is very manageable for the couple who run this cafe. Everything they serve comes from their own kitchen. They provide the best suppliers and you can taste that. A beautifully presented salad with delicious dressing arrived for us at the same time, with pork liver for me (post-correction: calf's liver of course) and my girlfriend's schnitzel with cognac-cream sauce. Sounds simple, but everything prepared with so much care and taste; you don't expect this here. The manager comes from Dutch Limburg and is a pleasant host who is up for a good conversation. And if the cook has time, she also joins in. A visit to Zell is not complete if you have not eaten here.

With the one star I'm in a giving mood. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to eat in this “restaurant” with the hopeful name “Café Friends”. The decisive reason was the unspeakable rudeness of the lady who was in the restaurant. We arrived at the location at 3:35 p.m. Guests were outside with drinks and the restaurant door was open. I just wanted to get some information, stood in the doorway, shouted hello and was approached from a niche around the corner saying it was time for a break. I responded with my request for information and was told even more harshly that the "lady" was on the phone. I then replied with “not then” and left the location. Our conclusion is that we don't need to eat in such an unfriendly atmosphere, especially since I can't see through walls or around corners and it wasn't obvious to me that there was a "break". And if the owners can do without well-paying guests after this behavior...

We found this place completely by accident! The food was super good and the service was so sweet and friendly. Definitely worth a visit!

Were here at Café Friends for the first time this afternoon and definitely won't be the last time. The service was very friendly, which I would like to explicitly mention here and cannot understand Jörg's review in any way. But the most important thing is that the food here was really delicious. We had pork steak and beef fillet with glazed onions, just great. The salad is also very tasty. So dear Joerg, maybe you shouldn't give any more reviews.

Delicious dinner tonight. All three of us ordered the Argentinian rump steak and it was delicious! Everything is prepared with fresh ingredients and you can taste it. The host is very cordial and we had nice conversations. We will definitely come here again!

Edit: back again and I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place!!! Maarten and Birgit are wonderful people and the food is amazing! She recommended the fish plate with fresh calamari and salmon. It was delicious and the homemade aioli is the best I’ve tasted. They open at 5:00 for dinner and I would recommend getting here right he at that time to get a table! Nicely cooked steaks and salmon and very fresh salads. The sauces on both the salmon and steak were rich and delicious. Very friendly service. Both the indoor and outdoor seating area are cozy and welcoming.

Last Wednesday we had a delicious meal with my wife. I ate a delicious steak with garlic butter and onion and my wife had a schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce. Both dishes were great.

Never had such a good meal before, my husband ordered a steak and said he had never eaten such a good steak in my life. What immediately stands out is the layout of the plates, which is done with love. Friendly owner who does the service himself. Definitely worth repeating.

Just wanted to add a quick question now that I'm sober again. Why are there only top reviews and very bad reviews? It's more than worrying. And why is this restaurant not accepted and visited by the people of Zell, definitely because the hosts are such super nice, friendly people. Food was very good. Everything looked good and was very tasty. Unfortunately, customer requests for changes are not taken into account even though this is even listed as an item on the menu. The two hosts have no feeling whatsoever about dealing with their guests so that they feel completely comfortable. The way you are addressed and treated is pretty modest. Minus stars would be appropriate here. What makes me think is the fact that the locals don't show up here. But if it's just about satisfying your hunger with a good meal and you don't want to spend any more time in the restaurant then you can try it and gain your own experience.

We would like to have something to eat and drink some wine. There were still a few tables available, but we were turned away just as we were about to sit down. No table would be free for “a little something”, but only for guests who eat “properly”.

We would like to award even more points. Everything just worked. The advice in advance, the salad with two types of dressing (I've never had it before). The food was simply divine 😋 We'd love to come back.

Super nice owner, great cook, the starter salads are super tasty, not as run-of-the-mill as we normally see it. The veal liver with onions and potatoes is a dream, as is the mushroom cream schnitzel. The sauces were made with pomegranate, which is super awesome.

Although we have been traveling to Zell frequently for three years, we only found our way to Café Friends today. The decision was spot on. The food, wild boar goulash... my wife had pork fillet was not only very rich but also tasty... The sauce harmonized perfectly with the game, red cabbage with glazed pear and the potato dumplings rounded off the dish. My wife was amazed when her pork fillet stood in front of her. A huge piece...+- 500 grams! Fries and herb butter went very well together. Nice hosts and a more than good price-performance level rounded off the evening. We would love to come back...
