The price was as expected. The Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were good, but the cheese took some getting used to. The sweet Schupfnudeln (potato dumplings) were a bit burnt and greasy, but otherwise good. The Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) was delicious! The service and atmosphere were average.

The food was absolutely awful. Selling a flattened schnitzel as a lumberjack steak is an outrage. The service staff clearly had given up on this dump. We had to get our own drinks because they wouldn't serve us. And to top it all off, they presented us with the wrong bill and demanded the higher amount. Never again.

For about 10 years now, we've been going to the Bauerntanz restaurant every December 26th with a group of 6-8 people, and we've always been satisfied. Unfortunately, this year was different. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn't heated; it was too cold, and the radiators were cold too. The restaurant was only half full, whereas it's usually fully booked twice during lunchtime. Now, about the food: I had a Zwiebelrostbraten (onion roast beef) that was supposed to have homemade caramelized onions, but these weren't fresh onions as advertised on the menu; they were pre-made ones. No one asked if I wanted it medium or well-done, which was unacceptable, as the meat was too small and too thin. (€27.90) It came with Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), but you practically had to search for the cheese. My husband had Jägerschnitzel (hunter's schnitzel) with spaetzle. The meat was so small you had to hunt for it in the plate; the rest of the plate was filled with spaetzle. There was far too little sauce (yes, you can order more sauce, but that defeats the purpose). The pork tenderloin with Käsespätzle was almost cold. The breaded schnitzel was oversalted. The roast pork came with only one dumpling. Afterwards, no one asked if we wanted anything else – dessert, coffee, or ice cream. No, quite a few things were wrong, especially the value for money! We'll be looking for a new restaurant for Boxing Day next year. What a shame! ☹️

We had to wait a very long time for the food; unfortunately, the quality and taste of the food were not satisfactory.

We stopped here for a quick lunch without a reservation. We were immediately assigned a table, and the service was quite fast. We found the place a bit cold, the bathroom even more so. Only after ordering and receiving our food were we told that payment was cash only. Information like this should be reported immediately.

An engaging experience immersed in a historic Augsburg restaurant, with a traditional Swabian-Bavarian atmosphere and dishes. I highly recommend the lamb with potatoes and green beans! Paired with a cold beer, of course. The desserts are also excellent!

As always, the food was delicious and the service was very friendly. I was here with my mother (and have been here many times in the 15 years I've lived in Augsburg) and had Gelbfüssler's favorite dish (pork tenderloin medallions). Changing the side dish was no problem. The portions were large. The pancake soup is also excellent.

The food tasted very good, but the portions were a joke: 2 spoonfuls of red cabbage, 1 dumpling, and 2 slices of roast pork... You definitely won't get full from that!

Decent food and friendly service. But the prices are a rip off in parts. They charged us 8€ for sharing a main- without notice. Sharing an already very expensive dish. Extra sides 9€- with notice this time. But in my opinion questionable practices and bad value overall.

The restaurant's interior is really beautiful. We love wood paneling and old-fashioned restaurants. Unfortunately, the food wasn't very good. Edible, but not a great experience. The half goose was far too tough and the flavor left much to be desired, and the same goes for the oxtail. Furthermore, upon closer inspection, we found the place a bit dingy, especially around the bar.

Good restaurant, but, as I've read in other reviews, the POS didn't work on my night either... hehehe. No receipt. I don't want to judge whether it's authentic or not, but I felt sorry for the restaurant owner, so I played along and paid the requested amount in cash. Obviously, I won't be returning to this restaurant; the food is good, but the service obviously falls short. It's strange that in 2025, people don't understand the fundamentals.

The alcohol in the Aperol Spritz and Limoncello Spritz was unfortunately only present in homeopathic doses. If it had been a beer, one would probably have ordered a "light" one.

Great location, but unfortunately the food isn't good. The dishes were prepared without any care and weren't worth the money. The service was very slow and the staff seemed very stressed when we were there.

The onion roast beef was good. The side salad was expensive at €7.90 and definitely the worst I've ever had. A bit of iceberg lettuce, carrots, coleslaw, and three slices of potato salad (outrageous!). The waiter wasn't very friendly. He noticed the salad wasn't on the bill when we were taking payment, added it in his head, but then entered the difference as an extra tip when he entered the card. Seriously. We had a Christmas party there with over 40 people. Occasionally, some people were out smoking, so the tables were a bit empty. The waiters kept asking if they could take our table with new guests, which was very annoying. I think they scared all 40 of us away from any future visits.

A charming, traditional inn with very friendly service and excellent food! Many dishes are available in smaller portions, and the prices are reasonable. The only thing that bothered me was the curtain at the entrance, which was usually open, so there was always a cold draft at our table whenever the door opened.

Not just old, but also super cosy and delicious. Highly recommended for those who, like Goethe and co, are on a long journey and need large portions. For everyone else, the friendly staff have a high-percentage solution. Dogs welcome

A fairly centrally located hotel that's showing its age. You can't really get by without a "premium" room. The breakfast saved the day.

Disappointing food, very little sauce with the duck (and this in Bavarian Swabia!), Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) at best average. Small portion of soup for the price. The side salad consisted only of iceberg lettuce. Extras overpriced (extra dumplings €4, bread dumplings instead of potato dumplings €2).

Nothing to complain about the welcoming atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff, but Saturday night was a real disaster. The food was wrong and sometimes cold! Unacceptable in a historic place like this. Unfortunately, little or nothing remains of the German restaurant. Needs improvement.

It was great that I discovered it by chance on Maps the day before. The restaurant filled up very quickly from 11:30 am onwards; the locals are clearly aware of the high quality of the food. The food was also prepared very quickly, the dining room is a traditional, cozy room where you feel very comfortable, and the restrooms in the basement were clean.

One of the oldest and, in my opinion, best German restaurants in Augsburg. Reservations are highly recommended, as it's always busy. There were five of us there on the weekend. The atmosphere was charming, but the food wasn't very good. My companion's potato dumplings were swimming in an artificial sauce. My pumpkin dish was smothered in a generic packet sauce, the broccoli was very salty, and the whole meal tasted strongly of pre-made ingredients.

The Bauerntanz Old Town Inn is Augsburg's oldest inn. The current owners run the establishment very professionally. The location on the Vorderer Lech River regularly draws tourists passing through the Old Town district. Nevertheless, the menu offers down-to-earth fare that's neither expansive nor designed to quickly satisfy tourists—but so good that at least half of the guests are locals. The Bauerntanz Old Town Inn is—in the best sense!—simply a cozy, traditional inn where you can stop in for a beer and a newspaper.

Excellent food. Beautiful location. Unfortunately, it's very crowded. But that's probably because so many people want to use it.

I visited Bauerntanz again today after many years. The service was very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was rustic, and—most importantly—we all enjoyed the food. It's wonderful to have rediscovered Bauerntanz.

There were 14 of us there, we had a reservation, and our drinks order was quick, but the food took a while to arrive. The weekly menu is posted on boards outside the restaurant. There's no menu inside, and there's no menu insert either. Everything was delicious and plentiful. We'd be happy to come back.

A wonderfully cozy inn in Augsburg's old town. The food was excellent and the portions generous. The service just seemed a bit slow, so our appetizers arrived before our drinks. Nevertheless, it's a real recommendation if you enjoy good, home-style Bavarian-Swabian cuisine.

We spent three days in Augsburg and ate every evening at the Bauerntanz Old Town Inn. The historic atmosphere of one of the city's oldest pubs is impressive. The Bavarian cuisine is outstanding: the freshly roasted pork, the beef cheeks, and the Kaiserschmarrn were particularly delicious. The food is served very quickly—almost too quickly to finish the aperitif, but that's not a criticism. The service is attentive and warm. The prices are absolutely fair and not excessive. We will definitely be back and recommend it to others! Tradition, taste, and atmosphere of the highest order. Hats off to the entire team!

Wow. What a remarkable classic Swabian restaurant. We were staying so close to here all week and didn't know this was here. And this tavern has been here for 500 years. Highly recommend.

We went there for lunch today. The service was super fast and very friendly. Prices are on the high side, and the portions are rather small, but the food was great. They could have brought the plates a little more simultaneously, but it was still within reason. A great and, above all, well-organized restaurant.

They delivered incredibly greasy food, no love, huge chunks, pre-made sauces, dry meat, undercooked vegetables, and all for €45.48, without a drink, just the food. I had a stomach ache 10 minutes after eating. Never again!

Vegetarian potato dumplings, never again. They're fried and swimming in an instant sauce. The recipe calls for mushrooms. When asked where the mushrooms were, the answer was a grin! The cheese spaetzle was way too salty! The worst vegetarian meal in years...

We were there for lunch on a company outing; we sat outside because of the nice weather. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was very good and served quickly.

We had dinner at Bauerntanz yesterday. Everything was good until the end. I went to the waiter to pay so my guests wouldn't notice. Everything was fine so far. However, my companion then went in to pay too, which of course I didn't notice at first, until he came back and said he had paid. We then went back to the waiter (an older gentleman in his mid-50s) and asked why he had taken the bill for the table again. He simply replied, "Well, if you want to pay, then pay," along the lines of... that's just not right. I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing. What a shame about the place... an impossibility!

A great restaurant with hearty, home-style food. The service team and kitchen crew do an outstanding job! Even with a packed beer garden and a packed dining room, they were always friendly and attentive. The food always arrived at the table at the same time. Excellent time management in the kitchen! This was our first time here, and our expectations were clearly exceeded.

Very good food. I had the roast pork and my son had the rump steak. Very tasty, and the steak was very large. You don't find that often these days for that price. The service was very friendly. The ambiance could be improved a bit, for example, by adding nicer cushions, etc. Nevertheless, it was cozy. I highly recommend the brewery.

The restaurant is very cozy and quaint. The food was delicious. The price was a bit higher. The male server was very attentive and very friendly. The female server who brought us the food was very listless and unfriendly. Hence, only 4 points.

Be careful and ask for your bill. The waiter asked me for 139€ in cash because the TP wasn't working, morally it seemed expensive to me and I asked for the bill, I felt uncomfortable about him and he took his time to give it to me thinking that I was going to leave without thanks to the wait. Result, my bill 99€ and the TP was working because the waitress used it. I didn't understand this scam and I felt really bad. So, is this a test on tourists thinking that we are stupid and inattentive? In any case, he didn't hit a bell but it could have easily done so, given the atmosphere and the context. 30 euros in return thanks to my attention. Not cool because I was invited to the house of friends who live there so he lost customers, whom he thought he would never see again.

Baked Maultaschen (ravioli) - tasted like a ready-made product topped with a lot of cheese - not recommended 👎🏾 When I asked if the apple fritters were homemade, the waiter asked who still makes something like that? No comment...

Everything was very good. The food was perfect and very good. Sometimes it takes a while to serve and order.

A cozy place where you can sit indoors or outdoors, and it's also part of Augsburg's history. And the Radler is delicious.

Fiddling with the bill leaves a very unpleasant aftertaste. Giving yourself a €25 tip only to be told the drinks couldn't be processed correctly. Beer was in the wrong glasses, and the food was otherwise fine.

A great restaurant with local dishes, fast service, great staff, and pure enjoyment!

In the heart of the city's old quarter is this little restaurant with a delightful garden. The gnocchi with Alpine cheese are excellent. Truly delicious, I could have eaten loads of them. The portions are generous and the price is fair. Only the service was decidedly slow, but it was worth the wait. Be warned: only one waitress speaks English, and be prepared to translate the menu into German. This last point, however, guarantees that it's far from the tourist trail. We were the only foreigners. PS The local wine is not bad.

If you like authentic Bavarian food, you have to go to Bauerntanz in Augsburg. A truly quaint restaurant right in the heart of the old town. The food is delicious, the service is fantastic, and they're flexible with special requests. We visited Bauerntanz on two days and were absolutely thrilled with the food. And if you like Kaiserschmarn, ordering the Kaiserschmarn is a must... it's a dream 😊 If our journey takes us back to Augsburg, we'll definitely be back 👍👍

After a tour of the old town, we stopped for lunch at the "Bauerntanz" restaurant. The ambiance was quaint and down-to-earth, as you would expect from a traditional restaurant. The service was efficient and businesslike. Drinks were quickly ordered and served promptly. The dishes we ordered varied in quality. While I enjoyed my "Bauernschmaus" (Farmer's Feast) quite well (see photo), the "Bauerntanz" salad my wife ordered was unfortunately a disappointment: The chicken breast was almost unseasoned, the salad dressing was far too watery and lacked any subtlety. After my wife complained, I tried the salad myself and could only confirm the shortcomings she had mentioned. I hope our feedback was passed on to the kitchen when clearing the plates. We will certainly give this restaurant another chance, but will opt for the traditional dishes when choosing food.

We were eating outside with four adults and four children. Just before we sat down, the chairs were wet. After asking the waitress if she could wipe them down, we were given a cloth to wipe ourselves after two requests. Okay. The food was edible, but not very well-seasoned. It was also quite blandly seasoned, and I'm pretty sure the Maultaschen were ready-made and the cream sauce came from a packet. Unfortunately, not satisfactory for the price.

The staff were very friendly and welcomed us despite the restaurant being full. The food was typical of the area, and very good; for once, we skipped the meat for a type of handmade pasta, which was very well-seasoned. The apple dessert was delicious.

We were there for work in December. It was busy, as many companies were having their Christmas parties there. The food arrived at most tables only lukewarm. Unfortunately, that's not an advantage with a lamb shank... All in all, the ambiance is rustic and cozy. The waitresses made an effort to serve all the tables. I'm sure things run better during regular business hours.

Oha, diese Bewertung fällt mehr als schwer: Das wichtigste vorab: Küche, Getränke, Lage und Bedienung in allem top. Kaum etwas zu beanstanden. Das Essen ist typisch bayrisch, wie ein Tourist es gewohnt wäre (vor alles die Spätzle sind ein Traum). Wichtig: gerade an Wochenenden sollte vorbestellt werden. Warum drei von fünf Punkte? Eigentlich war der Gedanke vier oder fünf Punkte zu geben. Letztendlich musste ich zwischen zwei oder drei wählen! Ich versuche es einfach zu erklären: Innerhalb von drei Tagen waren wir als Touristen drei mal zu Gast (jeweils mit drei Erwachsenen und zwei Kindern). Einmal zum Abendessen, einmal zum Kaffee mit Strudel und einmal für Getränke zum Abschluss. Beim ersten Besuch haben wir erst über 200 Euro gelassen, dann 60 und beim letzten mal 50 Euro. Wir wurden an den letzten beiden Tagen vom gleichen älteren Herrn bedient, der uns einzuordnen wusste und uns fragte, ob wir am morgigen Tage nicht nochmal kommen würden. Man war also bekannt genug für Smalltalk und Wohlfühlatmosphäre, die man sich im Halbsuff einfach auch gerne mal wünscht. Alles super, bis zum letzten Besuch: Auf die Frage am dritten Abend, ob wir Abends nur auf Getränke reinkommen können, wurden wir positiv reingebeten und haben als Nebenkommentar zugeflüstert bekommen "gestern habe ich euch einen Kaffee nicht berechnet, das haben wir irgendwie vergessen...aber naja" (ungefähr so muss der Wortlaut gewesen sein). Okay?! Cool, wir haben innerhalb von zwei Tagen über 180 Euro bei Ihnen gelassen und das zweite was man am Abend zu hören bekommt ist die Ansage, dass wir mehr Geld hätten zahlen müssen? Ja, mehr als unpassend! Stimmung danach gedrückt, man fängt an zu hinterfragen, dann b man nicht hätte wieder gehen sollen...man hat es natürlich nicht getan! Egal, wir haben als Familie trotzdem fleißig bestellt und haben dann um die Rechnung gebeten. Auf die Rechnungsbitte wurde in Bruchteilen einer Sekunde reagiert mir "47,5 Euro". Kein Plan, was dieser Herr für ein riesen Speicher mit reaktionsschnellen Getränkezusammenfassungsprogramm im Kopf hat, aber das war unglaublich fragwürdig, wie auf die die Rechnungsanfrage diese Antwort so unglaublich schnell kommen konnte. Es lag also nah, den nicht gezeigten Bon einzufordern. Naja, da die eigene Frau drum bat, den Abend nicht zu ruinieren, indem auf mögliche (hier nicht zu belegende) Missstände hingewiesen wird, wurde das gesamte verbale Rechnungssammelsurium akzeptiert, braf mit Trinkgeld bestückt und das Lokal verlassen. Ganz klar als Selbstkritik: Man hätte alles checken können, hat es nicht und kann sich nun nur auf TripAdvisor auslassen ohne Belege zu haben! Was bleibt nun am Ende hängen? Das Gefühle bei über 300 Euro in drei Tagen nicht wertschätzt zu werden und statt mal einen kurzen auf's Haus, erhält man eher einen Spruch, dass der Kassierer möglicherweise vergessen hat am vorherigen Tag ein Getränk zu kassieren. Zusätzlich fragt man sich, ob man als Tourist klassisch als Durchgangsverkehr wahrgenommen wurde und ob man vielleicht an den beiden letzten Tagen doch mal den Kassenbon hätte einfordern sollen! Wie massiv unnötig war dieser Anschluss? Wir haben doch eigentlich so gerne unser Geld in diesem Laden gelassen, warum wird dies nicht am Schluss auf gegenseitiger Augenhöhe anerkannt? Absolut unnötig (vor allem, wenn man sich schließlich noch fragen muss, ob man möglicherweise das eine noch ausstehende Getränk vielleicht doch noch im Nachhinein bezahlt hat - ich weiß es nicht!). Pointe: Essen super, Bedienung macht Sachen!

The restaurant has a beautifully quaint, rustic feel and authentic atmosphere. The staff was always on fire but friendly. Unfortunately, the food, the cocktail (Rhubarb Spritz), and even the beers didn't impress me. But, as we all know, tastes differ. Table reservations are recommended.

Delicious food, friendly staff and good value for money.

The Bauerntanz grilled pan was served after a few minutes—too quickly to have been truly freshly prepared. The meat was too firm and not particularly fresh. The fries were greasy. Overall, it wasn't particularly good and had probably just been reheated. It's a shame; I remembered the food at Bauerntanz differently. The service was friendly. The drinks were fresh and cold.

Friendly service & good food. The chairs aren't exactly inviting, so we didn't stay long. Personally, I miss a chicken schnitzel on the menu.

Edit July 2025 Today, for the first time in a long time, we gave Bauerntanz a try. This time we ordered. The Kässpatzen (cheese dumplings) are still delicious and were a normal-sized portion – even though €18 is quite high. What was completely disproportionate, and in my opinion, completely unacceptable, was €18 for ONE bread dumpling with a flavorless mushroom cream sauce, which, due to the poor packaging, was half-spilled in the bag. If you're not capable of packing sauce-heavy food in secure delivery containers, you shouldn't offer it for delivery. Only the taste of the Kässpatzen keeps me from giving it a 2-star rating. Old review: 3 stars from 6 years ago: We used to come here often and enjoyed it, but since pretty much the entire service staff was replaced, it hasn't been the same. The familiar, friendly atmosphere that once characterized Bauerntanz is unfortunately completely gone, and the entire service seems disorganized, often inattentive, and not well-trained. The food is still consistently good, but nothing truly exceptional. Homely, with room for improvement.

Food is good, service nice. But outside depending on the wind, it smells like trash. It's 2025 and you never can pay by card. "Device not working" they keep saying...

The waiter's greeting seemed forcedly friendly, even arrogant. I ordered the farmer's dance salad. I expected a bit more from a dish that practically bears the restaurant's name as an advertisement, namely a nice colorful salad plate with fried chicken strips (according to the menu). Instead, we got unimaginative and unloving green lettuce leaves, half of which already had brown edges, some were cut into strips, with grated carrots on top. Three small pieces of chicken and a soggy dressing. Not a piece of bread with it! Unacceptable for almost 15 euros. The waiter didn't ask whether we were satisfied or whether we enjoyed the food. We grabbed our plates and left. My companions had wedding soup, which was delicious.

Beautiful restaurant with outdoor seating. The service was incredibly rude and practically kicked us out when other guests arrived, even though there were plenty of other seats available. That was our last visit. What a shame.

We love local restaurants and are happy to visit them. It's really not a problem to pay a Euro more, but when you are delighted with the dish. Mozartplatte for one person 33.00 Euros - let's say the meat was marinated or something special, but this is ridiculous. I'm not saying it was tasteless, but I certainly don't support that price. "Ordinary Grill" can be eaten anywhere for half the money. That's why we came to you, but disappointment. The salad is also not to be praised.
