Terrible reception. Place open until 11pm, we arrive at 9.45pm and they tell us ... we are closed. Outside there were many people sitting at the tables eating. Draw your own conclusions. I think tourists are not well received

The reception or dining room is like a warehouse, so there cannot be children. Breakfast is of very high quality, varied and natural. The attention is very friendly, perfect location. Very comfortable rooms. You have to carry a suitcase like in all small hotels.

We had dinner in this enchanted place on Friday evening 23 August 2024. Impeccable service! Excellent and exquisite cuisine! Fairytale atmosphere. More than honest account, even cheap. Thank you for giving me a dream ❤️

We had dinner in the restaurant and I can only recommend it. Typical Franconian food, family atmosphere and fair prices. They only accept cash.

Very atmospheric inn. But a little heavy, a little dark, a little uncomfortable bed!!! You don't have to choose at breakfast, they have everything ready and served. If you can't eat something because you ran out, the taperaki is ready for you to take with you. But I was happy to stay there and experience an old fashioned Bavarian inn. Those with mobility issues, stay away. It doesn't have an elevator.

An absolute recommendation and experience. Great value for money... great service and very helpful. Very tasty breakfast, the location is great... That's something special...

What a pleasant surprise! The quaint ambience of this historic property was incredible. I spent lots of time looking at all the tchotchkes, while exploring the nooks and crannies. The breakfast quality and service was the best of-the 6 properties we stayed at so far, and I wish we could’ve stayed longer. Definitely a winner!

The two of us were looking for an authentic hotel and we found it. The entire ambience appears lovingly designed. We found the room OK for the age of the house. The rooms had old but high-quality furniture. The room was quite small, but this was already known when booking. However, the door was warped and some of it looked old (of course some things should be that way). What else I can mention positively: the breakfast. That was really world class. Ready-made table with everything you can imagine. And a bowl was offered as a lunch box for the day. What gave the whole thing a cloudy aftertaste: the rooms are extremely noisy. If the person next to you has the TV on, you can hear it loud and clear. Not to mention the celebration of the soccer goal at 11 p.m. Even though we were only there one night, I deduct one star from the room because of the poor soundproofing. That was really annoying and annoying.

The potato soup was the best we ever had. The smoked pork with potatoes and sauerkraut was delicious! Our family tried 5 different dishes and each was thoroughly enjoyed! The owner was very knowledgeable and friendly

We had booked a room here to stay overnight and also wanted to eat in the restaurant. After we arrived a little later, our table was taken. No problem for us, we briefly discussed with the boss that after moving into the room we would first have a drink outside. When we wanted to sit down, a stressed-out waitress barked at us: "Outside is closed!!" We would have understood that because it had rained if we hadn't clarified that beforehand. There was also a group of about 7 people sitting outside. The waitress didn't listen to us and left us standing in the restaurant. As a customer, I don't have to accept this behavior. So we ate at another restaurant that had very friendly service. The room was very dark and poorly lit, the whole house is completely overloaded with kitsch and clutter - a matter of taste. Breakfast is okay.

We have been going to Mario's at the Altfränkische Weinstube in Rothenburg for over 30 years and at different intervals. The location has always remained the same quaint and cozy over the years. The wine tastes great and so do the Franconian specialties. A must for every visit to Rothenburg

I always like to start with the positive comments if there are any. So I want to give this restaurant credit, where it is due. The food and atmosphere were both superb! No complaints on that front. HOWEVER, the service was awful and it affected our overall experience. We had somewhere close by we needed to be by 8 PM, so we thought that a 6:30 reservation would more than suffice. We ordered shortly after we sat down, but did not receive our food for close to an hour (and this was after we begged them to bring it, knowing we were going to miss our next event). They didn't come over once to explain why it was taking so long, nor seem particularly apologetic for the poor service. Then, when they brought the check and I took my credit card out, they announced that it was cash cash-only payment. There was no mention of this in our Rick Steves guidebook (he is usually good about mentioning such details), nor when I called them on the phone to make a reservation. Since.I didn't have enough cash with me to pay the bill (I tend to travel cash-light since it makes me nervous), I had to leave my kids there, as "collateral," while I walked 15 minutes to the nearest ATM to get cash, which was not only inconvenient but also put us further behind in trying to make our 8 PM tour. It is sad to write this review because this restaurant truly has a lot going for it, but they must step up their customer service! We ended up having to run to our tour and were still late.

Ate at the restaurant only, kitchen is open until 9pm on Friday (most places were closing at 6pm). Roast beef looks like steak to an American. Prices for warm food range from 5 euro for the potato soup (amazing dish) to 25 euro for the roast beef, but most are 10-15.

Very nice atmosphere with very loving staff

We had dinner with a large group in the wine bar. The rooms are overflowing with knick-knacks, from jugs, pictures, decorative items to stuffed cats in the windowsill, not to mention the darkness. The cuisine is hearty/rustic and the quality is not of a high standard. The food came quickly and so we had enough time to treat ourselves to a nice ice cream sundae in the city.

Absolute top recommendation for Rothenburg ob der Tauber, lovingly prepared food, everything delicious and freshly prepared, great wines and friendly service, all at very fair prices and in a super cozy atmosphere, a bit away from the hustle and bustle of tourists and therefore a little oasis of relaxation. Also very nice outside in the beer garden, best discovery in the city!!!

We went for dinner. The food was very good.

From the outside it did not look like very much with it's low door. -on the inside it was dark packed with tables and dinner guest, we loved it, exactly what we was looking for :) I tried to order pork with mushrooms and spätzle; I'm not sure where I went wrong but a dish with potatoes arrived. -it was good :) No card, cash only.

I waited a year for my wife's birthday. It was worth it.

Excellent location for a sleepover and also dinner. We stayed here for one night and stayed for breakfast (great selection of breads, fruits, dairy, sweets and savory foods) and dinner. Friendly people, room was great and pet-friendly.

We had a fantastic experience! From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, everything was perfect. The breakfast was amazing; I've never seen so many gluten-free and lactose-free options, which was a real relief. Not only was the bed wonderful, but there was also a large bath available - always a nice addition. However, what really made this experience unforgettable was the friendliness of the people. Their warm and welcoming attitude made our stay extra special. A small point of attention for future guests: parking must be paid in cash, something to take into account. There is also an option to pay via an app, but a credit card must be linked to this and American Express is not accepted. Despite this small detail, our stay was unforgettable and without a doubt we will return! An absolute must for anyone looking for a stay where everything has been thought of.

We spent 2 nights here. It was just beautiful. To preserve such an old, 600-year-old building...hats off to you. You can just see that the owners do everything with passion, love and great hospitality. You can't get enough of this cozy interior in the guest rooms and the rest of the building. The rooms are perfect, as is the lovingly made breakfast and dinner. If you want something modern, this is the wrong place for you.

A nice, interesting restaurant with good food at really fair prices.

On the first evening in Rothenburg we went to eat at the Altfränkische Weinstube without knowing her beforehand. We were lucky to get a table with two seats without a reservation. The wine bar looks very cozy and we felt really comfortable. The staff is absolutely friendly and nice. A short time later, guests from a neighboring town sat down next to our table. We talked to them and got to know the wine bar. All the dishes we ordered were prepared first-class and tasted excellent. The wines offer something for every taste. We received information about activities in Rothenburg from our table neighbors and also tips on delicious desserts. So we were able to finish the meal appropriately. I can fully recommend the Altfränkische Weinstube. The location, ambience, food, drinks and staff are first class.

(Reviewing the restaurant not the hotel) Great old style medieval-ish atmosphere, limited selection of solidly executed Franconian dishes, good local wine list, good service. Be aware that it's very dark inside, though that adds to the atmosphere. It was also very warm on our visit, despite cold weather outside, best to dress in layers.

Anyone who goes there will find a building overgrown with ivy or wild vine, and in front of it there are small pots with thyme and other spices. In mid-March there is a pink wild cherry blossoming right in front of it, which is visited by many people. The restaurant area on the ground floor looks like it has grown over centuries and if you like the Middle Ages, this is the place for you. There is an old piano in the entrance area, which I have completely lost sight of. The breakfast in the hotel is an absolute highlight! If you wish you can add egg and ham, just like that :). Evening menu is good and tasty, as a tourist I would have wished that there were more typical Franconian dishes in the appetizer price segment so that I could try something :D - it doesn't have to be stomach-filling. The rooms themselves could sooner or later be more rustic (medieval) and the TVs are relatively old and cannot be connected to Netflix 🤣 - is a suggestion for improvement. I would book there again at any time!!! So absolute recommendation and thanks again :)

Very cozy, rustic restaurant in which the light mainly comes from candlelight. Service was super nice and quick, and the food also came relatively quickly (still definitely freshly prepared food). Reservations should be made in the evening. As the name suggests, the food on offer is typically Franconian. We ate pork loin on toast with porcini mushroom sauce, as well as a salad with trout, salmon and shrimp (see picture). Both were very tasty and the portions are really sufficient. The restaurant/hotel is about 5 minutes from the central old town and is easily accessible on foot and right next to the city wall, which means you can take a nice walk at the end :) You can spend a cozy evening here.

We did not use the hotel, only the restaurant. The food was absolutely fantastic. German cuisine at its best. Excellent sausages, delicious pork steak with vegetables and wonderful mushroom sauce with dumplings. The prices are not excessive, which may be a positive surprise considering the place is in the very center. You must have a beer with your meal, we chose wheat beer and we were not disappointed. There are relatively many places, but what is important ‼️ PAYMENT ONLY IN CASH. It is worth visiting the local ATM. We definitely recommend it!

Great atmosphere...Rustic rooms, everything clean and tidy. Great wine bar with a good variety of wines. Everything was freshly made, really tasty. Service excellent, fast and friendly. They can do it. Breakfast is a dream. Any time again and recommended. Great value for money

Wir waren schon ein paar Mal hier Essen und sind immer wieder begeistert. In dem Restaurant ist es dunkel und man isst bei Kerzenschein, eine ganz urige und romantische Atmosphäre, auch für besondere Anlässe geeignet. Der Service ist sehr schnell und sehr freundlich. Man fühlt sich rundum wohl. Reservierung ist auf jeden Fall anzuraten. Die Karte ist klein und fein und wir waren mit dem Essen sehr zufrieden. Auch die Preise sind sehr fair. Einziger Wehmutstropfen: Es gibt keine Nachspeisen auf der Karte. Wir freuen uns schon jetzt auf unseren nächsten Besuch in diesem besonderen Restaurant!

We've eaten here a few times and are always impressed. It is dark in the restaurant and you eat by candlelight, a very rustic and romantic atmosphere, also suitable for special occasions. The service is very quick and very friendly. You feel completely comfortable. Reservation is definitely recommended. The menu is small and fine and we were very satisfied with the food. The prices are also very fair. The only downside: There are no desserts on the menu. We are already looking forward to our next visit to this special restaurant!

Hier wir man in eine andere Zeit versetzt die nichts mit TikTok, Facebook und Insta zu schaffen hat🤓. Das Restaurant ist urgemütlich…. Die Salate mit dem hausgemachten Dressing sind mega, das Dressing macht der Chef selber und ist ein “Geheimrezept”! Wir haben dort auch übernachtet, die Zimmer sind nett und gemütlich und dem Haus entsprechend eingerichtet. Alles pikopello sauber und das Frühstück war der absolute Hammer🙏🏼. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder👍

The ambience, staff and food are in absolute harmony. Clocky and very comfortably furnished, great staff! Absolutely quick and really well-engineered home cooking. It's fun and filling at the same time. An insider tip in the city! We will be back!

Ein uriges und sehr gemütliches Restaurant, getragen durch die Kerzenschein Atmosphäre. Die Bedienungen waren sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Das Essen war hervorragend, regional, geschmackvoll und mit Pfiff. Die Vesperplatte und die Schweinefilets mit Champions waren sehr lecker. Ein viertel Silvaner, Kabinett und trocken für 5.50 €…, wo gibts sowas noch. Unser Abendessen mit Getränken für unter 50 € und von hervorragender Qualität…Besser geht es nicht…👍🤩

Freundlicher Empfang, man fühlt sich schon beim Hinsetzen wohl! Das bestellte Essen und die Getränke einfach top! Ihr müsst unbedingt die Kartoffel-Suppe als Vorspeise probieren!

Local super germânico e aconchegante. A comida bem elaborada e o atendimento maravilhoso, os próprios (casal) proprietários atendem. Vinho local muito bom e a comida super saborosa. Experimentem o Camenber gebakened.

Ein echter Geheimtipp 😉. Es wurde uns auch von Freunden empfohlen. Danach waren wir auf gut Glück da. Leider war an diesem säbelnd schon alles ausgebucht. Also super leckeres Essen uns super angerichtet. Aber es empfiehlt sich vorher einen Tisch zu reservieren.

Everyone's opinion of their accommodation is different, so I only detail the things I thought were good and bad - make up your own mind. We booked a economy double room (6) and car parking. THE GOOD This hotel is VERY quirky, it had a great power shower, was very clean and had a comfy bed. The location is very good, situated within the walls of the old city. The hotel is also a pub, we didn't use it, but we weren't disturbed by it. THE BAD DARK, DARK, DARK, there is no reception desk, ivy covers nearly all windows and the hotel was PITCH BLACK when we arrived - we had to put our phone torch on, and thought we had arrived at the 'Hammer House of Horror' with all the taxidermy on the walls / furniture. There was no lift and no one to help with bags. TV did not work, but were only there for one night and did not complain. There was no air con or fan, but the windows did open, allowing a small breeze in. The bathroom was very small, so was the room. The breakfast was set up as a beautiful banquet on a table for your room, in a beautiful quirky breakfast room, however there was only one item between two people - one piece of ham, one piece of cheese etc... so actually it was very disappointing, as we both wanted the same items. There is NO car parking at this hotel, we were directed to a public car park, 10 minute walk away over cobbled streets approx €10 overnight. We did pull up outside the hotel to offload baggage, but be aware the streets are very narrow, and you need to be a confident driver. If you want DARK and QUIRKY, this hotel is for you!

We spotted this hotel/restaurant whilst exploring Rothenburg. It looked so pretty, we thought we must try it for dinner. We were lucky enough to get a table without a reservation. The staff are lovely, very friendly and welcoming, I had a lovely salad with smoked salmon, trout, prawns and crayfish. My husband had pork steak with herb butter and potatoes. It was the best meal we’ve had since starting travelling in Germany. The decor is quirky, and historic. The restaurant is lit by candles. The wine and beer were both excellent. No credit cards accepted, so take cash. Day 2 - we decide that our meal last night was so good, we’re going back. I booked this time. We were given a warm welcome. This time, I had cheese topped noodles and my husband had the same pork dish. They both came with tasty salad on the side. Prices are very reasonable - around €11-€15 for most main courses. Very much recommended.

Nos habían dicho que era difícil conseguir mesa, fuimos a preguntar esperando un NO ya que lo habíamos visto en otros lugares, y para nuestra sorpresa nos hicieron un lugarcito. Nos atendieron fenomenalmente y tanto la comida como el vino estuvieron espectaculares. Mucho encanto, muy buena comida y gran atención.

Wonderful place to stay in a great town. The owner met us for check in and helped us to park. The restaurant wasn’t open but we were directed to one a few minutes walk away. I would recommend booking at a restaurant as there were queues to get in many around town. This hotel is very quirky and is 650 years old. The room was dark but that added to its ambiance. We had a great sleep and was welcomed at breakfast with a Buffett set out for 2 with eggs cooked to order.

Schon bei der Getränke Bestellung viel mir auf, wie überfordert die Bedienung war... Pils hielt sie ausserdem für das gleiche Bier wie Helles. Der Eindruck sollte sich leider fortsetzen... Dass mal eine Bestellung verbaselt wird, kann passieren. Aber dass auf Nachfrage, ob man uns vielleicht vergessen hat "weiß ich nicht" geantwortet wird, fand ich irgendwie komisch. Die Bedienung wirkte richtig konfus ... was vielleicht hoffentlich nur dem Samstag Abend und dem vollen Restaurant geschuldet war. Nach den Getränken hielt ich es jedoch richtiger, das Haus zu verlassen und einen Döner Imbiss aufzusuchen, der tatsächlich auch richtig gut war.
