Please note the opening hours. There's no information on the website either. Google says it's open. We wanted to stop in here because we were really hungry, but it's closed.

Excellent food with generous portions. The service is super friendly. Always a good choice.

We found the house rather by chance during a tour and were surprised to find such good food somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Unfortunately, the mushrooms served with the schnitzel weren't fresh. My companion's meal (kale) was otherwise fine. Seating for groups of 5 or more seems to be scarce; our makeshift table was taken away before we'd even finished our drinks and paid.

Fabulous restaurant with good service and delicious dishes. We've been there twice now and weren't disappointed either time. Everything from traditional fish dishes and "all you can eat" kale to pork knuckle and half a duck was on offer. The ladies also loved the vegetable platter. 😉. Great team and prompt service.

We received a very warm welcome and were exceptionally well-groomed. The young waiter was extremely attentive. The food is excellent! The portions are generous and the prices are absolutely reasonable for the quality. The ambiance is cozy and solid. Not a modern venue, more for those who want to enjoy typical Fehmarn cuisine. On a Thursday evening, people were lined up at the entrance waiting to get a table. On weekends, you can't get in without a reservation. The restaurant is very popular. And rightly so.

You should definitely make a reservation there in the evening. Unfortunately, phone calls are ignored. The times are strictly regulated. The ambiance is very nice, and the service is very friendly and accommodating. The food is a matter of taste, and it didn't quite suit my taste. Nevertheless, I would recommend it without reservation.

First-class in both the food and the service. A well-stocked, yet not overly crowded menu awaits you, seemingly focused on the kitchen's core competencies. The cod was of excellent quality and perfectly prepared. Both the mustard sauce and the fried potatoes served with it seemed homemade and were a taste experience, as they were very well seasoned. The service is in no way inferior to the high quality of the food. Very attentive and extremely friendly staff, who leave nothing to be desired. Even if the price isn't exactly cheap, every single cent is well spent here, and I can only recommend visitors to Fehmarn to visit this rather remote gem. I'm convinced that no one will be disappointed... Addendum from August 2025: We visited here again and were once again overwhelmed by the excellent quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. Absolutely top-notch!

It was our first time eating at the old customs house, and we were surprised by how delicious it was. Freshly prepared, so the wait was reasonable. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit. We definitely would.

It's a shame we can only give it 5 stars, because in our opinion, the team and the atmosphere deserve more. We'll be back, if only for the excellent food and the people in general. Drinks are good, the food is amazing, and the whole team is top-notch.

We had the meat platter for two people; the pork steak was riddled with tendons and had large edges of bacon in places. We were very disappointed.

We wanted waffles. Unfortunately, they weren't available. Instead, we had blueberry pancakes, which somehow didn't seem particularly fresh. After initially being very reserved, the service thankfully warmed up later.

Just as great as every year, the food and drinks are always outstanding (flavor explosions). The service and ambiance also create a feel-good atmosphere. We'd love to come back again!

We've been traveling to Fehmarn regularly for over 20 years and go to the Alte Zollhaus for dinner at least once. Always good quality at reasonable prices. Since we have a dog, we can't go into the dining room but sit on the terrace, which is perfectly fine. Reservations aren't possible on the terrace. This year, on a Friday in early September, there was still room on the terrace at 5 p.m. We particularly liked the service this year. Keep up the good work.

Our dishes ranged from okay to delicious. The wait was very nice and friendly. The wait was still okay; a family who arrived five minutes after us and was sitting outside got their drinks and food earlier. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely stop by again. We were here again two years later today and had lumberjack steak. Very tasty and plentiful 🤤

We ate at the Altes Zollhaus again today. It was delicious again. We had the beef roulade with potatoes and red cabbage and the creamed mushroom schnitzel. We'll definitely be back soon.

I actually always eat the same thing here, and that's the ox cheeks, and they're incredibly delicious, especially the sauce is amazing! My companions were also extremely satisfied!

We both ate a super delicious lumberjack steak. We could barely open it. Homemade cream and herb butter. A poem. On October 20, 2024, we ate kale with smoked pork and cabbage sausage. Delicious, just like mom's. 😋 Fish platter on August 23, 2025.

A very nice restaurant, inside and out, delicious food, nice cheerful service

The warm welcome was only surpassed by the delicious food. I'd also like to mention the excellent Engelbier in this context. The cod fillet with savoy cabbage and, for my wife, the Labskaus brought back childhood memories. A definite recommendation. 👌👍

We just ate at the old customs house. We ordered the fish platter for two people. You can get fish quite often here in the north, but this meal was divine. All the fish was super fresh and fried the way we like it. The vegetables weren't overcooked. The fried potatoes were so delicious. We were absolutely thrilled. The platter for two people is really big, even for a very hungry person. The service staff was super friendly. From the very first second, we felt warmly welcomed as guests. Thanks to the chef and the entire team. We'll be back.

We received a very friendly welcome and were even able to sit outside. We ordered our food and drinks, and after a normal wait, we received our food. We had the fish platter, but for three people. For the price and quality, it was a really good dinner. The fish was cooked to perfection, the vegetables were nice and crisp, and the fried potatoes with bacon were very well seasoned. Then we ordered dessert. These cinnamon plums were simple but very, very tasty. But what they did: I immediately thought of my grandmother when she used to "preserve" plums in the 80s. A simple recipe instantly transported me back 40 years. I want to thank you for that. 🫶👍🏻😃 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I would like to thank you again for a fantastic dinner, great service, great atmosphere, and for the dessert. We ate there today while on vacation and were all impressed by the freshness and deliciousness of the food. Definitely worth a visit; the food is still prepared with love. The restaurant has a trendy style and is suitable for all ages.

Very good German cuisine. Good value for money. Very friendly service. This is the first restaurant where dogs aren't allowed inside. We thought it was great, as dogs have no place in restaurants. Not everyone likes them, and it's pure stress for the animals. We'd love to come back.

We ended up here on the recommendation of our landlady at the Muhr Guesthouse. I have to say the food was absolutely delicious. My duck was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. My wife had fish and was more than impressed. Top quality at a fair price. The service was very friendly, and we sat on the terrace, sheltered from the wind. Anyone who eats here won't regret it. I definitely recommend it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The food and drinks were excellent – ​​kudos to the chef! It did take a while for the food to arrive, but the quality more than made up for it. The ambiance/decor was appropriate, clean, and very well-maintained. The only thing that marred the overall impression today was the service. She wasn't overwhelmed – how could she be, it wasn't particularly busy at the time we were there – but rather unfriendly (if not even a little annoyed). Maybe she was just having a bad day… Nevertheless, I can highly recommend the restaurant!

The food was excellent, and special requests were accommodated with gracious care. Update 5/30/25: Unfortunately, despite the sunshine, we didn't have a choice between the terrace (two occupied tables), where we would have liked to sit (the sun was shining), and the dining room. It's a shame about the unnecessary trip, but we'll eat somewhere else now.

We wanted to spend a nice early evening with friends and went there without a reservation. There was only one server. Our friends' meal consisted of gravy with a dollop of mashed potatoes, and there were about five pieces of veal goulash. Our fish dishes were okay. However, my side dish was inedible. Since the fried potatoes were black, I complained and received a bowl shortly afterwards. I claimed, however, that this was my old one and only the top slices had been replaced. Why is a guest treated like this? Does the chef think the guest won't notice, or will they eat it anyway? I like roasted flavors, but here the side dish was charred/burnt. The actual fish dish was okay and filling even without a side dish. Unfortunately, the server only got the heat. Very disappointing, and the kitchen's audacity annoyed me for days afterward!

The food is very good. It's definitely worth reserving a table in advance. If you're bringing your dog, you can sit on the outdoor terrace; dogs are not allowed inside. The ox cheeks are highly recommended. In bad weather, we've even ordered takeaway, as we have dogs ourselves and don't leave them alone on vacation. The service is friendly. We enjoy going there again and again.

So far I have always given 5 stars here. Since the last visit in June 2024, today has been an absolute disaster. Our popular fish platter was simply not edible, let alone tasty. The interior is barely warmer than the 10 degrees outside. Despite the warming plate, the food got cold faster than it could be eaten. An absolute mistake today.

A beautiful, sweetly decorated restaurant with really delicious food as well as a starter with greetings from the chef, which came to our table as a small gift. Very nice service. I can only recommend it.

We decided to stop by the old customs house because we were in the mood for German food. We sat outside in the patio because we had a dog with us, which is not allowed inside. The food was very tasty, we had fish and schnitzel😋. The service could be a little more communicative😀 All in all a recommendation 👍🏻

Had dinner there today at 5:30 p.m. It was very tasty hot. The service was good and quick. We really enjoyed it and enjoyed it.

We waited over an hour for the food. The fish plate was subterranean. Three types of fish lay on top of each other and were mushy. The vegetables were next to it and the fried potatoes were on the other side. All in a slush of hollandaise sauce. The North Sea crabs were forgotten but added later. We still had ox cheeks, making two cheeks from one ox cheek. The staff wasn't attentive. It never saw that the drinks were empty. Price-performance? What an achievement! High price! A no go for us!

I can't understand all the positive reviews. You'll be treated like dirt there if you're even noticed. After what felt like an eternity of waiting, my husband and I left without ever being able to place an order.
