Very nice Bavarian atmosphere, the service staff were very friendly. Unfortunately, Stiftl's currywurst was the worst we've ever eaten. The sausage and fries were soggy, the sauce bland – it could be so much better – even if it's just a "simple" currywurst – a shame and also annoying for the price!

We went there for my brother's birthday. We sat next to tv and they started playing football, people were loud (hooligans shouting) and it is hot under the halogen heaters. Service was nothing special, not really friendly. Food was bad for the price. I have anticipated a juicy and crispy meat but the schweinshaxe tasted something that was left in the warm oven for hours... Chewy and dry. The Schweine braten was good! It was juicy and crispy. However, the table for three was very small and we felt uncomfortable with limited space to eat and drink. No coat hanger. A tourist trap.

The staff were very friendly and chatty. The food was outstanding and more than enough to satisfy after a long day. The house has a rustic and traditional German look, which feels very cozy.

The front area was a bit drafty and therefore quite cold. The food was okay, the service was initially a bit grumpy but became more conciliatory in the end. It used to be a bit cozier here.

A nice Bavarian restaurant with good food. Very centrally located, near Marienplatz. The service is a bit overwhelmed, as the restaurant is always very busy. A table reservation is recommended.

We had a wonderful, friendly, and personable employee who served us. The portions were large and delicious.

We stumbled upon this pub by chance. What can I say? A pleasant discovery in the top three. The food is very good and a departure from the classic "shins" and "sausages." I recommend the homemade cordon bleu, a real treat. Mario is truly a character. We had a few skits, and it felt like we were in a comedy show. He's great. See you soon.

Waited 1.5 Hours There were five of us at the restaurant to eat and drink. We initially ordered only appetizers, which arrived promptly. Then we wanted to order our main course, but our waiter never came. We asked the other waiters, but no one would serve us. Even the head waiter brushed us off. After waiting an hour, I went to the kitchen and asked our waiter to take our order. He told us to be patient, and we waited another 30 minutes. After waiting 1.5 hours without food or beer, we decided to pay and leave. If you don't want to wait 1.5 hours for a waiter, you shouldn't eat here!

We had a fantastic evening at the Alte Hackerhaus! If you're looking for authentic Munich flair, this is the place to be. The food was simply superb! From the pork knuckle to the schnitzel, everything was cooked to perfection, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The portions are generous, and the quality is outstanding. The service was the absolute highlight! The staff were not only extremely attentive and quick, but also incredibly friendly and wonderfully funny. You immediately feel welcome and thoroughly entertained—this is what makes a visit to a traditional Bavarian pub so enjoyable. A charming atmosphere, fantastic food, and a team that does their job with heart and humor. We'll definitely be back! Highly recommended!

The restaurant was good, but, we had a reservation and a waiter whose name was Hadid was extremely rude and refused us to give a table telling restaurant is full but it was empty. We approached another waiter who was very welcoming and gave us a table. But the rudest and impolite behavior of that first waiter Hadid who was serving in front of door section dissatisfied from the very beginning. Suggestion to management to question the behavior of their staff.

The service today was a bit grumpy, bordering on disinterested. There were leftovers from the previous guest on the red and white tablecloth. €6 for a half-liter of light beer is quite steep. The ambiance is nice, though. If only there weren't so many better options in Munich. Definitely room for improvement.

One thing you have to give Schichtl credit for: he has a really delicious vegan currywurst on the menu, which he serves with plenty of fries. There's absolutely nothing to complain about there. Nevertheless, we won't be coming back. The reasons are numerous: - The salad we ordered with it was mediocre and nothing special. - The server is patronizing and argumentative and has absolutely no clue about customer service. - The restrooms are atrocious! Even a train station toilet smells better! In the women's restroom, the toilet seat has apparently been cracked for ages and hasn't been replaced. The attendant sits there with a money tray – for what? For what service?

It was a company party. The soup portion was too small. The main courses were only partially good. The dessert wasn't particularly good. The restaurant itself is cozy. The service was somewhat slow and forgetful. Too expensive for what you get.

On December 13, 2025, Munich was quite busy due to the Christmas markets. Despite this, we were greeted rather rudely at reception and immediately reluctantly assigned a table with a time limit (which, at a good hour and a half, was sufficient) because it was already reserved. They could have saved themselves the trouble of providing menus, because even after we ordered drinks, no one seemed to think it was important to take our order. And this continued for a full half hour. Several waiters skillfully ignored us, while other tables were clearly given preferential treatment. When the waitress who actually brought the drinks finally arrived, I was annoyed and ended up paying without a tip, of course.

This place is absolutely amazing. The food is wonderful and the drinks are great. If you can stomach a bit of batter the servers will happily reply!! Try this place and don’t listen or read negative reviews. Remember we dont all speak fluent German or English but go with it!!

This is my third time in Germany, and it's been many years since my last visit. I told myself I'd never go back, but my partner wanted to see Munich. This place is a perfect example of why I didn't want to return and why I hope I never will. The service is rude, unpleasant, and seems intent on spreading their unhappiness. If you don't like being a waitress, don't be one, but the way the elderly woman who serves you treats you is unacceptable. It's a shame that in Germany, finding a friendly and welcoming atmosphere is so rare. Please, don't go, and if you do, be prepared to be served by a grumpy sergeant, not a professional. The food was mediocre at best.

Cozy inn with very good cuisine.

The food arrived quickly. It was very crowded. It took a while to get the bill.

We were charged for extra drinks. On a bill of 67 EUR, about 8 EUR were extra drinks we didn't order. I contacted the restaurant when I noticed, and they wouldn't refund us the money ( sent them an email with the receipt in question ). Due to the waiter not giving me a receipt without explicitly asking for it and the fact you must pay at the entrance, not at your table, I believe this was a scam, not an honest mistake. The waiter never showed me the screen and say "look, this is what you ordered". I was directly asked to pay. They had the exact date and time. We were probably the first customers that walked in the restaurant that day.

A Christmas party is supposed to be top-notch. This was a complete disaster! I've rarely eaten so badly. The pork Wiener Schnitzel was more like shoe leather. The duck had nothing to do with poultry, more like an emu or a dinosaur. The Kaiserschmarrn tasted more like industrial sealant than food. All 50 colleagues had the same experience. Even the boss sent the slop back.

A typical German restaurant, far enough from the busiest part of town. The dishes are what you'd expect: sausages with potato salad, cold cuts and cheese salad... Hacker beer (since 1417; they have the brewers' family tree drawn on the wall) in every variety imaginable. Good value for money.

When we arrived, we were shown to our seat, but it was too small for three people, so we asked to change seats, but were refused. When we asked another staff member, they were able to change seats, so it may depend on the staff member. Generally, most of the staff were sarcastic and energetic, and the conversations were very enjoyable. Their famous dish is meat with a knife stuck in it, and everyone at the other tables was eating it too. There were many families and friends there, so it was a lively atmosphere. The beer was also very delicious, and I would love to visit again!

I was at the restaurant with my wife on 1 Dec 2025 for dinner. We are both Asians and we speak fluent English. A senior female German woman came to serve us. When my wife asked for a menu in English, all she did was tap her finger at the part of the menu that has a QR code for an English menu. She didn’t say anything about scanning for an English menu. Just tapping her fingers on that part of the menu that I was holding. We ordered 2 main courses, a tea for me and an apple strudel to share. When we were eating, she came over, pointed her finger at the thermos flask my wife had on the table and loudly exclaimed “What is that?” My wife replied it contained water. She didn’t order any drink as she wasn’t thirsty and just wanted a few sips of warm water. The waitress then loudly exclaimed “This is a restaurant! You can’t have your own water here! Please put it back!” I understand there may be a different etiquette in restaurants in Germany that we as visitors should respect but the tone and manner in which it was said was rather disrespectful by any country’s standards. She could have just politely explained that we needed to order water from the restaurant and we would have. It was even more shocking later. The apple strudel had come in a bowl and a saucer underneath. When my wife asked for a small plate to divide the apple strudel between us, she dislodged the saucer underneath, banged the saucer in front of my wife and said she can use this. Imagine asking for a small plate and the waitress tells you to use the saucer underneath your coffee cup. When my wife continued to ask for a small plate, she had the audacity to shout “What’s the problem!”. And all we wanted was a small plate. I went to read the reviews of the restaurant today and saw that there were similar experiences shared by others. So I have decided to write this review about our unpleasant dining experience. This German woman should be ashamed of herself. I doubt she cares about the reviews or what people think about her. But anyone thinking of visiting the restaurant should know about the experiences we had here. The world has changed and it is simply not good enough to explain this away as a cultural difference. Maybe if she travels a bit she might learn that there are actually some basic levels of courtesy that people afford to one another, regardless of nationality or race. I wish her well and hope she learns something decent in the future.

Located in the heart of Munich, it's a true German beer stop with waiters dressed in local attire. With the waitress' attentive help in choosing the food, we had the opportunity to enjoy a delightful and delicious meal. It was a pleasure to sit at both the tables outside and inside. Being open until 23:00 was also a good alternative, as generally everywhere closes around 21:00.

The food wasn't really to my taste, but my colleagues loved it. I had the Hüttenburger, which was incredibly greasy. Otherwise, the atmosphere was nice and the service was friendly.

A very nice Augustiner restaurant... However, as expected, the roast pork can't compare to Munich's. But they do offer a small 250ml Augustiner beer. 😀

We went there for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. The food was truly excellent, and we also really enjoyed the restaurant's ambiance. Unfortunately, the otherwise lovely evening was marred by an extremely unpleasant experience with the waiter. When we went to pay and the bill was somewhat higher than expected, I politely asked for an itemized list of the food and drinks we had consumed. The waiter's initial reaction, however, was that I should pay first, as I would see the details on the bill anyway. This made me suspicious, so I explicitly asked for an itemized list again. The waiter then suddenly quoted a price that was about 10 percent lower and explained that the previous amount included a tip. I found this very strange, as I always leave a 10 to 15 percent tip, but voluntarily, not because it's added on without my asking. When I insisted on a proper itemized list, the waiter became increasingly unfriendly and resorted to comments like, "We're not in Austria here" and "Those Austrians..." A truly disappointing and unprofessional end to an otherwise very pleasant restaurant visit.

We were here for lunch with work. Unfortunately, everyone who ordered the Kaiserschmarrn from the lunch menu had stomach problems afterward. The Kaiserschmarrn was clearly just reheated and was therefore extremely greasy/buttery. There were also many hard pieces of sugar mixed in. I definitely wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise, the atmosphere was charming and the waiter was in a joking mood.

We spent our evening at the Altes Hackerhaus with several guests, and I must honestly say everything was fantastic and went perfectly. The food and portions were incredibly good and generous – plenty! The service was also very nice, polite, and friendly. Adi recommended all the best things the restaurant had to offer, and everything worked out perfectly. Many thanks again for the quick and excellent service. We'll definitely be back. In fact, I went for the first time. We had a reservation, which was a good thing because the place was getting packed. We were greeted warmly and shown to our tables. The waitress was very friendly and super funny. The food came quickly and was consistently delicious. I also really liked that it wasn't too loud and that it didn't smell like a brewery.

Prominent location, which probably explains the prices. The food was tasty, but not outstanding. The interior was rustic Bavarian, quite nice. However, we sat at a small high table next to the stairs to the basement, which had a rather minty smell. And the service was nice, but unfortunately not attentive.

They saved the day, being the only one who served us without a reservation after 1 p.m.! Everything we tried was delicious, with authentic Bavarian flavors. We only stopped for a quick meal, so we were left wanting more desserts… we definitely have to go back to try them. The staff was very attentive, although the atmosphere was a bit stuffy, too noisy, and we were squeezed together between tables. The restaurant also has a terrace and several tables right in front of the door, however, we sat where they offered us.

The food was a bit expensive considering the portions weren't particularly large. The ambiance is beautifully furnished and decorated in typical Bavarian style, but the staff is as cold as ice and pulls a face as if they have no interest in the activity.

A cozy, beautiful place... not just for tourists, but also for locals enjoying an after-work beer. I'd especially like to highlight Mario; he's been in charge of our table three times already, and we always make sure we return to his area. This consistent joy in his work, his sense of humor, his attentiveness... we've never experienced anything like it in the restaurant industry. The restaurant is his stage! He loves his job. A great asset to the business and his guests! We always had a great time.

The Highlight of my first trip to Munich. My wife and I loved it. Staff were so accomodating, very patient as we didnt speak German. I had the Ghoulash and what I was told was their Oktoberfest beer. Both were absolutely exceptional. The Ghoulash in particular was one of the most enjoyable stews I have ever had. Hope to return to Munich again so I can come back and try more of the menu!

We spontaneously stopped in for a final round after our first day in Munich. A nice, friendly welcome and a seat at the bar. A cozy restaurant with extremely friendly staff. We ended up with two rounds of Hacker Pschor and two schnapps. The Pschor is a more bitter beer. We then got a sample of Wiesen Bräu. Wow, that had more alcohol... a nice way to end the day. Highly recommended.

Been for an early dinner without reservation. Got a table for 2. It was very tight. No extra space around the table. Both got beer house from the tab. Both tasted and smelled buttery. The draft system is contaminated needs cleaning. It’s a shame that this is happening in the German traditional brewery restaurant. Had a pork knee. It was very dry. Needed a lot of effort to cut and chew. Disappointed

Unfortunately we were turned away quite rudely by the staff as apparently the Oktoberfest vouchers did not work until the Monday after which made zero sense. The vouchers did not mention this. This has left us severely out of pocket and a bad ending to what would have been a great weekend 👎

Beautiful, historic house. A traditional atmosphere during the Wirtshauswiesn (Wednesday evening), good food, and good beer. Plus, attentive service from the cheerful Mario. Perfect.

The waiter was visibly nervous when we asked for water for our dog and made a rude comment, saying, “Soon we’ll be serving dogs too.” The apple strudel was good, but with service this poor, it’s better to choose another place. At the end, the waiter was outright rude and demanded a tip, which we of course did not leave due to his inappropriate behavior.

When I pass by on the street in the autumn, I always want to sit down and drink pumpkin soup. And it's delicious.

Typical Bavarian restaurant in terms of interior and staff, friendly German, generous portions, very tasty, with classic Bavarian dishes, despite being in the middle of the square and crowded place we found it almost immediately at lunchtime, and fast service.

The food is delicious, and the place is very nice for a German atmosphere. But the staff is very grumpy and rushed. The service is inadequate.

Within very close walking distance of Marienplatz in Old Town, this restaurant and Biergarten offers a slightly quieter experience with plenty of outdoor seating and a good menu selection. We stopped for beer and dessert, which was delicious. The staff had some English proficiency, and everyone was kind about our lack of German. The menu has a QR code for an English version, which was very helpful.

Good place, but not as it should. We tried some of the dishes in other restaurants and it wasn’t as good. But the food was nice, just not amazing! In the end a blowfly appeared which is never a good sign as they come in environments that are not as clean and tidy…

Sweet Jesus the service is terrible - alright Bavarian cuisine comparable to any other traditional restaurant in Munich. Ill tempered waiters will ignore you (it took nearly an hour to order food) and prefer to sit gossiping to themselves and openly drinking on the job. And yes, as per the other reviews they have a definite problem with race here.
