Thank you, dear God, that this wonderful place exists, because there is no better place for an after-work beer with the very best. The waiters were all friendly too.

Unfortunately, none of us were happy with our food. Cheese spaetzle without any cheese taste and the sauce for the schnitzel is underground. It's a shame, there's still room for improvement since the tenant changed.

The visit to “Alter Simpl” was great! If you want it to be a little quieter because you want to chat over lunch, try to get a table in the back. The dishes (meat patties and roast pork) were tasty, but unfortunately only lukewarm (which is why it was given one star less than the maximum rating). The white sausages were great. The service was friendly but one had the impression that the team was a bit understaffed. The poor waitresses had to dart back and forth extremely quickly.

The food was mediocre, dry fried beef in the burger, which was very "sparingly" filled, fries okay, house wine but great for the price. Nice, quick service, ambience very loud and now too pink for my taste.

Unfortunately the quality of the food has declined. The service was understaffed.

I've never had a restaurant call me before they release the reservation... After an event at LMU, we didn't make our reservation at 9:30 p.m. An employee (Valli) called me on my cell phone number to ask if we would still come, otherwise the kitchen would close. We arrived at 10 p.m., some of our group arrived a little later and the kitchen stayed open longer. Valli served us very friendly and with a lot of humor. His colleague Nora was also very nice and we spent a really nice evening in the Altes Simpl. Thanks!

Classic and another one of the best places for a few beers with friends

We are disappointed. We had to wait almost an hour for our Kaiserschmarrn. The price-performance ratio is also not right.

Well done, noble revelers and happy warriors! A truly hearty spectacle is revealed in this venerable inn, as the true Bavarian beer tent flair is brought to life here. Crowds of happy guests fill the hall, so that a loud but cheerful babble of voices echoes through the halls. The wooden seating may be rough in nature, but that doesn't detract from the joy of being in good company. The dishes are a real treat for the palate, prepared with care and craftsmanship, so that even the most spoiled stomach is happy. The service is quick and friendly, always keen to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. This means that this inn remains an excellent place for all those who want to experience Bavarian hospitality in its original splendor!

I have known the Alte Simpl since my childhood and went there with high expectations when it reopened. Unfortunately we were bitterly disappointed. We ordered a schnitzel, a children's schnitzel and a currywurst. Instead we were served two schnitzels in the same portion size. When we complained that we had ordered a children's schnitzel and a normal schnitzel, the waiter explained to us that two children's schnitzels had apparently been prepared by mistake. However, these would both be calculated as a child's portion. However, when it came to paying they didn't want to know anything about it. Despite multiple complaints, no one was willing to adjust the bill accordingly. So it happened that we had to pay a price difference of 6 euros for the same portion. In addition, the staff booked their own tips using the card machine without consulting them. This was really disappointing and not at all the service you would expect.

Staff and guests “very nice”. You even meet “real Munich residents”. The history of the restaurant is “very interesting”.

Cozy, rustic and very good food

The place is a classic Bavarian restaurant with a good atmosphere and lots of beer. Unfortunately, the food is not the best they have to offer, sometimes burnt, sometimes undercooked. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place to meet friends, but don't go there if you want good Bavarian food.

Go somewhere else haha. The food is frozen and prefabricated and costs more than 10 euros. Actually, almost all restaurants in Muenchen are like that, but I'm not sure... whether it was worth paying for other than the beer.

It is not one of the classic brasseries, noisy and crowded, rather a place where you can also stop and have a calm conversation. It is pleasant to observe the photos and memories that testify to the frequenting of artists and intellectuals in the 1920s and 1930s. We are near the Universität and I had the impression of a young clientele and mainly friends. The food is good and the service pleasantly informal.

If I didn't know better I would say that my mom is in the kitchen making the dumplings!!!!! Excellent roast pork with hand-rolled potato dumplings... Extremely rare in Munich at a fair price and available here. Nice service in a historical atmosphere... Everything fits!!!!

Price performance doesn't match front and rear

After the renovation, the old Simpl has lost a lot of its old charm. Obviously they want to be more of an in-bar than a student bar or tavern. That would definitely have its charm if the sound wasn't sublime. Then let someone from the neighborhood hang up the phone. Food, drinks and service were good.

The food was good and the waiter was friendly. The points are deducted because there was a confusion between the currywurst made from meat and a meat substitute. We ordered both, but the wrong ones arrived. It was only noticed by both people after the first bite. In our case it's not that bad since none of us are vegan, but in other cases it can't turn out so well. This should urgently be paid more attention to.

I've been using it since 1998. Before, we were neighbors. Since the days when stores were closed due to the coronavirus, I haven't been able to go there much due to work commitments. So yesterday I went with two friends for the first time in a while. Axel was very kind as always, and the person in charge of us was also very attentive, making sure we got our food and beer at the right time. It's been a long time since I've had a good time drinking with my friends.

I've been eating at Simpl often to very often for about 15 years, and I've always said that Simpl is the better restaurant in the area for a decent meal! Now I haven't been there for a while, I come over and we get ham dumplings on our table as if we had ordered them from the children's menu. I can confirm the rapid price increases from other reviews. For ham noodles with a side salad it costs almost 20 euros. The small side salad costs 6 euro 20. It was clear to us yesterday that we wouldn't be coming back. So you have also contributed your contribution to the gentrification of Türkenstraße, the new interior confirms this wonderfully in my opinion, ugh! The ham noodles were okay, but with a dish where you make such margins you really wonder why you are served such a stingy portion!

We celebrated our company Christmas party at the Altes Simpl and had a great time with good drinks, a Christmas menu and Christmas sounds at the bar piano. The service is quick, friendly and caters to every request. The agreed menu of pumpkin soup, venison ragout from regional hunting and Kaiserschmarrn arrived on time and everyone enjoyed it wonderfully. Particularly noteworthy is the selected drinks menu, which shines with organic wines, but also with tasty non-alcoholic drinks. Big praise to the team and in particular to the landlady Sina von Tongelen, who accompanied us openly, warmly and imaginatively at the Christmas party. Gladly again & a 100% recommendation for a company party in an artistic, original Munich restaurant. 🩵

Unfortunately I have to agree with the other reviews. The prices have risen disproportionately, the service takes a long time to take the order and then execute it. It's a shame, I enjoyed going here but I won't be coming back any time soon. There are too many (better) alternatives for that.

Nice Bavarian restaurant in a good location. Service was OK. The burger was very disappointing. The patties were most likely from a frozen package. Lettuce, sauce and onions carelessly in one place. Definitely too expensive for the quality. I won't be eating here again.

You should bring a lot of time with you when visiting, as the service is very comfortable. The food is very bad.

Newly renovated, the Alte Simpl impresses with a cool new interior, but also loses a bit of the student flair it once had. The food is super good and there is warm food until 10 p.m. Reservations on the weekend are definitely worth it!

Unfortunately disappointing. Nice old place. Schnitzel with fried potatoes. Fried potatoes lukewarm or rather steamed potatoes that have passed the pan onto the plate. Show the cook what fried potatoes are and why plates where the schnitzel is on the side dish are far too small. Service overwhelmed.

Unfortunately we had to wait a long time before our order was even taken. During this time we heard customers at the next table complaining about the cold fried potatoes and the burnt schnitzel. Our choice also fell on this meal and when it finally came (after we had to politely point out one of the forgotten drinks three times), it was disappointing for us too. Fried potatoes old and warmed up, some burnt and others raw inside. The schnitzel had definitely been fried in old fat. The meat quality was a disaster and onion roast didn't have a single fried onion. Paying €55 for this and two drinks is simply not appropriate in these times and is a shame. We won't come back again.

The Alte Simpl was a favorite place for me before the tenant changed: great atmosphere, super-friendly service, delicious food. Today I tried it out again to see if it was suitable for a Christmas party. I didn't like the food (fried chicken salad with potato salad and chicken schnitzel in cream sauce with spaetzle) except for the fried chicken. It really took a lot of effort for me to eat it and I didn't even feel like eating a scoop in my favorite ice cream shop afterwards, which is rare. It's a shame, because I would have liked to have the Christmas party on Türkenstrasse again. I would still go for a beer, but the food disappointed me.

The location is great, and the service is really nice. The food is delicious, with large portions at great prices. They’re definitely busy! We were lucky enough to get a table when we arrived, but later on, we noticed it was packed, so I would recommend making a reservation. Overall, it’s a great spot to enjoy tasty food at a good price.

It's a shame what this place has become. I've spent many great evenings here, but since the change of ownership the menu is completely different, the prices are higher and the atmosphere has been completely lost. The service was also very slow. It's really a shame what has become of the old Simpl. It has simply become another interchangeable Munich restaurant. From favorite pub to never again...

We were out having few drinks and ended up here. Athmosphere was nice and we had first class service. Too bad they close so early.

The food was really bad, I had the worst roast pork I had ever eaten, and the sauce was also subpar. The whole thing for over €20, I can't recommend the restaurant.

Rustic original. Inexpensive for Munich standards and large portions. The food is down-to-earth, delicious and the service is top. Sometimes it takes a while if it's very busy. But never harm the cause. Love it there

Quite a popular establishment in online reviews of inexpensive local restaurants. Usually reviews write about affordable prices, but here I have to disagree. Prices correspond to prices in establishments located in the very center of Munich. Therefore, there are no very cheap or very expensive dishes here. The establishment itself is furnished quite nicely with a summer veranda. In the afternoon, on Sunday, there were almost no people. We were able to grab a table of our choice. The service is good, the staff is polite and helpful. We took meat cutlets with potato and cucumber salad. The portion is large, everything is very tasty. The food is home cooked. The wait time for food was average.

We were there for lunch with our child at the weekend. Very nice service and super delicious food. The pumpkin with buffalo mozzarella was great and the little one was thrilled with the children's schnitzel. The large selection of vegetarian dishes is particularly commendable. You can also eat Bavarian food here as a vegetarian 👍

A favorite for years! Good Bavarian food and a very good beer selection with Guinness and Kilkenny. Edit: I've been here a few times since the change of ownership and I'm very happy that the "new" Alte Simpl is still a great restaurant - even much better in terms of veggie options!

The NEW Alte Simpel - after reopening in April 2024 with a new tenant and new concept - offers a good standard menu with vegetarian/vegan alternatives and a Simpel plate that changes daily and is affordable for around €8.50. Sometimes they are a little simpler, sometimes they are very elaborate, like today the wild mushroom with fried chichore in a honey-mango dressing with basmati rice was excellent. Personally, I like the concept.

Very nice pub in the heart of Maxvorstadt. The beer tastes good and is usually poured well. There are the “typical” dishes that you would expect in a pub these days, such as burgers, currywurst, fries, but also a lot more. Personally, I really like the atmosphere. Even though the pub is bigger, it still seems a little cozy. The staff is generally very friendly.

Yesterday we were with 6 people in the “new” old Simpl and were welcomed by very warm staff and served very attentively and personably for over 2 hours. A big thank you to Kevin and his colleagues! From the fresh Obatzn, the tomato bread as a starter, the legendary ham noodles, to a super tasty roast pork, to a creative pretzel carpaccio, everyone was thrilled by the very good cuisine. We had a great table outside in the middle of Schwabing's nightlife and inside, the new mix between historical flair and new and very clean toilets was extremely successful. Two other highlights: I'm not a Löwenbräu fan, but fresh from the barrel it's a good light beer and the cellar beer from Franziskaner was also very tasty. The schnapps, both the fruit schnapps and the hazelnut schnapps, were super mild and even those who didn't like schnapps enjoyed it. All in all a lovely evening! A new highlight in the Munich gastronomic scene!

The newly opened Alte Simpl hasn't changed that much, the Maxvorstadt institution Axel is still behind the counter and the feared pink turned out to be a solid old pink. And Ringelnatz's rhyme remains unchanged (for me): "And I'm drawn by ghostly hands whether I want to or not, I have to go to the Simplicissimus after the walls decorated with pictures." Addendum on July 23rd: Great that the Alte Simpl is becoming a place for culture and art again!

Old wine in new bottles... Old Simpl in a new guise? Wasn't convinced. Price level for a student pub is high. Currywurst tasty, but not outstanding. Service friendly and fond of children. Positively surprised because there was even more than 1 vegan dish available. Staff very friendly. Location good.

Unfortunately the kitchen is underground. Even under new owners. Given a chance again and again since it reopened, disappointed every time. Good atmosphere for drinking, nothing more.

For years now in the old Simpl. To the Germany game. The store is jam-packed. Top! Enjoy your meal. Great selection for everyone (meat and vegetarian). Simon, who served us, was quick and super personable. What more do you want. We will be back.

The meat from the onion roast (24.80) was tough, had too much sinew and was well cooked, even though it was ordered medium rare. The beer (Helles, 4.70) was too warm. Service was nice, but hardly there. All in all it wasn't a hit

We were 8 people and the service got lost and the charge us drinks for other tables. We paid them to not cause any issues but I won't come back nor recommend this place.

Was here with my brother. We were both hungover, but we were able to muster up the strength to leave the inn we had gone to after we had been ignored there - despite being overstaffed behind the counter. But here the service was keen to take care of the physical well-being of its guests. After we drank our first Helles, the friendly man asked us: Would you like to drink another Helles? We were unsure. We could afford to drink another light beer. The handsome man saw our doubts and added: One more beer; for calming. It's rare in life that you feel as good about buying a good or service as my brother and I did at this moment. We were inspired. We sat at the back of the restaurant feeling inspired, the light was soft, the glasses were stacked, the flowers were fresh, and there were other happy people wallowing around us, whose physical well-being was, quite noticeably, very well taken care of. Familys. Friends playing cards. Sole readers with red wine. We left Old Simpl with a softness and newfound capacity for hope and, with it, kindness. The wonderful man was just standing outside having a smoke. Quite unobtrusively and without a super-cool habitus, but just in a cute way, he told us: Come back guys, we have more of this. He meant beer.

The Old Simpl got exactly the fresh new coat of paint it needed. The new facility is bold and extremely successful, and the prices are still reasonable for Munich standards. The juicy roast pork, the fluffy spaetzle, the huge schnitzel and the onion roast roast, we enjoyed everything. The service was super friendly 👍

Newly opened, therefore with reservations. It is clear that not everything is going smoothly so soon after the reopening. The two very young waitresses were always attentive and friendly, there was only a problem with the process (e.g. wrong drinks, salad with the main course came 20 minutes after the main course). However, I was disappointed with the food. Both in terms of what was on offer (there wasn't much to be seen of the announced combination of classic and modern). Schnitzel was then at best okay. Very greasy, so there was a lot of liquid fat on the plate, which wasn't particularly good for the fries either. As I said shortly after unlocking, not everything is going smoothly, I hope it gets better!

Had a great evening yesterday at the pub quiz in the old Simpl. It was really a lot of fun. Fast and courteous service, good food. We will be back!

I was there on a Saturday evening, Service attentive and very helpful in all matters. Drinks came quickly and were tasty. About the food... The schnitzel was prepared with almost no fat and was completely flat and dry. The fried potatoes were okay All in all okay for the drinks but I wouldn't come back for the food. Resume I cannot recommend the restaurant...

Were there for the pub quiz after reopening. Unfortunately, operation was a total failure. It takes forever until you can order and then almost as long until the order comes, a food order was also completely forgotten. Guys, this has to get better! Beer price a little above the university district average. More than three stars are initially not possible.
