Augustiner Bräustuben in München

This is one of my favourite restaurant in München. Simple but very tasteful meals, and very often « Oktoberfest » atmosphere. In the main period hard to find place, but there are two place anytime. The Agustiner is the best beer from the München’s big brands.

If you're looking for a charming quiet place where you can enjoy a romantic dinner... this isn't it. If you're looking for a place where a table of people can speak with passion and laugh out loud while drinking delicious beer, here you are. The menu is nothing surprising but everything was tasty. The staff is curt but fair and attentive. Don't get sensitive and it will all be ok. We had a reservation for 8. That was a good thing. Smaller groups can find some free seating, but if you have more than 4 people, I'd recommend a reservation.

Authentic Bavarian beer hall. Packed to the rafters. You can go without a reservation. You wait a little while and they seat you relatively quickly. The food is very good. 💯

We've now visited several Augustiner restaurants in Munich, and in all of them we received very friendly and attentive service. The food is delicious and the price is more than reasonable. We'd gladly return.

Beware, the rude waiter will try to scam you! We had to pay €80.55 and he immediately put €85 on the card machine. If it works, it works.

I really wanted to make a stopover in Munich on my return flight from Palermo so I could enjoy some traditional Bavarian cuisine at Augustiner Bräustuben. I went in and explained this to the staff, and they immediately brought me the waitress assigned to me. I was greeted warmly, and my food was served both to eat in and to take away shortly afterward. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations. It was packed, and deservedly so, given the delicious Bavarian food! Thank you for the outstanding service and the incredibly tasty food! A great place to eat local food and drink good beer. Staff very friendly, they found a place at a table although it was many people and we didn't have reservation.

A very nice Bavarian brewery with reasonable prices. Easily accessible by tram.

Delicious food with better value for money than in the city center, a charming atmosphere, and even without a reservation on a Sunday lunchtime, we were lucky enough to get two seats in the quiet area (turn left at the entrance). The staff are generally friendly, but very busy during rush hour. We'll definitely be back!

Original Barbarian beer hall, large space, truly the temple of beer. But the best part is the service. There was a Greek in the service and it was all money!!

I had already visited Augustiner Heller earlier and really enjoyed it as well, but Bräustuben has its own unique charm that makes it stand out even more. The atmosphere here feels incredibly authentic—lively, warm, and full of true Bavarian character. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel comfortable, whether you’re visiting for a drink or planning to stay for a long evening. Even though I didn’t eat this time, the food looked amazing everywhere around me. The plates were generous, and everyone seemed to genuinely enjoy their meals. I’m definitely planning to come back to try the kitchen. The service was excellent. Despite the hall being quite busy, the staff were friendly, fast, and very professional. They create a seamless experience and manage the entire place with impressive energy. And of course, the beer—Augustiner straight from the wooden barrel is on another level. Fresh, smooth, and simply perfect. Even after enjoying Augustiner at the other location earlier in the day, tasting it again here confirmed why it’s so beloved. Overall, Bräustuben is a must-visit if you want the real Munich beer hall experience. Great beer, great atmosphere, and great people. I’ll absolutely be coming back! 🍺✨

The staff wasn't very helpful, they thought we were drunk and served us half-flat 1-liter beers.

The beer is good and cheap. The hygienic conditions are terrible, the food is poor, and it's very noisy.

Such a delicious dinner at this historic beer hall restaurant. It was full but we waited only 20 minutes and our server was so friendly and efficient. We got beers right away and then ordered traditional dishes like sausages, schnitzel, roasted duck and sauerkraut. This place also has outdoor private seating in carriages and a fun form of curling.

The food was good, although I've had better boiled beef before. I'd especially like to commend the very friendly, hardworking, and quick service – thank you so much, Helmut!

Food was great, one of the best Schweinshaxe I've had . The service on the otherhand was not good, somewhat rude even. We were with a big group and had 2 tables. When 3 people from our tabke went outside to smoke, the waiter came to our table and told us we had to pay, eventhough the rest of the table was still eating and drinking. Also when we asked for koffie (it was a long day) the waiter refused and told us they don't serve koffie (it's on the menu).

The food is not tasty , the meat is drier than a heel

We arrived at 11 a.m. and our reserved table was already taken. Instead, we were seated at a cramped table with other guests. The pretzels were cheap, pre-baked goods, but the white sausage was good. The beer tasting menu was promised, but wasn't available at noon. We were told it wouldn't be available until 4:30 p.m. when the owner arrived. So we ended up paying more – without a discount or any solution. The slow waiter served us with a smug, unfriendly tone and a "tough luck" attitude. In a word, the staff and service were inadequate!

The roast was good, but could have been a little warmer. The staff were courteous and always attentive. Many thanks to the service team, Danny and his colleagues, and also to Mr. Vogl, the owner. A must-visit for anyone in Munich. Good food and drinks at reasonable prices.

A very quaint inn with rustic decor. I arrived right at 10:00 AM for the traditional Bavarian white sausage breakfast. No reservation was necessary. The pretzel was super fresh and the sausages were delicious. The beer (a half-liter of light lager) was also very tasty. The prices are very reasonable. Definitely worth a visit.

Good Bavarian cuisine and good beer, large and for many people.

A great spot if you’re after beers and a lively Bavarian atmosphere and the prices are impressively low for Munich. If those are your priorities, you’ll have a good time. However, don’t go in expecting warm service or memorable food. On both fronts, it’s been some of the least positive experiences I’ve had since moving to Munich.

The atmosphere was consistently great. Even at 8:30 PM, the place was packed. It's always like this here; some servers are rude, while others are very friendly. We were lucky to be quickly seated at a large table. There was a live band playing. A delightful evening.

We tried to make a reservation but had no chance, and while the duck was good, the plate was far too small for half a duck.

During the shift change, our table was neglected for over half an hour and there was nothing to drink. The food was okay, although the pork knuckle was dry. The beer was great as always.

A large restaurant. The roast pork was good. My colleague's chicken was unfortunately still a little undercooked. Service was good. Due to the large number of guests, it was quite noisy.

The visit was unfortunately a complete disappointment. We sat at our table for over 30 minutes without anyone taking any responsibility for us. Instead of service, we were constantly passed around – again and again with different excuses like "We're closing soon" or "No service without a reservation." One waiter even openly admitted that this was apparently a common practice to be able to close early. For such a well-known Munich restaurant, this is simply shameful. Only after we insistently asked why we were being consistently ignored did they reluctantly take our order. When we subsequently declined a tip – given the whole situation – the waiter responded rudely. Such a level of disrespect and lack of professionalism is a deal-breaker for us: We will never return to this establishment.

Awesome! Yeah, that's all I can really say. I first went there about 20 years ago and I always go back whenever I'm in Munich. The atmosphere was great. The Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle) were perfect and the Helles (light beer) was fantastic. So, best regards from the Ruhr area. I'll be back in Munich soon and would love to stop by.

Weisswurst with pretzel and half an Augustiner beer for a second breakfast

There’s a certain vibe here, you’ll have to be okay with the hustle and bustle. Service was rushed or almost non existent due to the sheer amount of people present (at dinner time). Food was good, portion and taste wise. Beer and the beer-house vibes were just amazing. The prices were very friendly too. Definitely a unique experience but just be aware of what you are getting yourself into and you’ll be fine.

Been a big fan of Augustiner beer i did ask our waiter if I could buy the beer glass i was drinking out of but the answer was no.. this is understandable. 5 stars, and Markus really deserves his own star! We were at the Augustiner Bräustüberl and have rarely experienced such top-notch service. As soon as the beer level dropped below 80%, Markus was already back at our table. Our thirst was kept consistently and professionally quenched throughout. 😄 The rest of the team was also fantastic. 🫶🏻 We'll definitely be back! 🍻

We went there on a Friday evening without a reservation and were immediately seated in the dining room. The service was friendly and excellent. The food, of course, was expensive and unfortunately rather mediocre. I had the beef strips with fried potatoes. The four pieces of meat on top weren't worthy of the name "fried potatoes," and the few thin strips of meat were drowned in a liter of sauce. My companion had Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle). The only positive was that it came with a salad. The Käsespätzle weren't anything special. The dining room wasn't packed, but it was very loud. For me, it lacked a cozy atmosphere, and I wasn't impressed with the food. Sorry, but it could be better; to me, it felt like mass catering.

Very loud, conversation hardly possible

The Augustiner Bräustübl is an institution, probably serving the freshest beer in town. I ate there many years ago and was thrilled. That wasn't the case yesterday. We had Oktoberfest chicken, fries, etc. While the food was okay, it was clear the chicken had been sitting around for a while—it wasn't hot anymore. The fries were below average. The next table sent their roast beef with onions back because it was cold. We were disappointed, especially since the Augustiner Bräustübl in the city center serves top-notch food. Always fresh and delicious, but unfortunately, this wasn't the case at the original location.

My personal impression of the place is mixed. It's an option, but not a must-visit. The service was okay, the drinks were okay, the food wasn't really okay—not bad, but nothing I'll remember.

Been there several times, always made a reservation, never disappointed, the food was tasty (small selection of vegetarian dishes and one vegan option), typical brewery atmosphere and not too big, good value for money, conversation was possible even though the place was full.

The food is absolutely delicious, but the real highlight here is the team and the service. It's incredibly welcoming and you just feel right at home! Adnan and Mimo, in particular, gave us fantastic service!

Everything here is great, the food is inexpensive and delicious. Sometimes it takes a while to be served, and it's often very busy, but if you only come with two or three people, you can almost always find a seat. They even have a lunch special during the week, and when the sun is shining, you should definitely go to the sun terrace.

What a shame, the food and beer were tasty. The service was nonexistent, or rather, they took the wrong order. Then they tried to upsell us. Absolutely unacceptable.

The head of the department on November 7th, 2025 is simply a criminal/outrageous!!! And all the waiters are like sheepdogs... Not every one, but most of them.

We had a really nice meal and drinks in the lively beer hall. Our waiter was super friendly, proactive and enthusiastic. Overall we had a much nicer experience here than in other brewery venues elsewhere in the city, and we would definitely recommend coming here

An absolutely disappointing visit. Not a single waiter acknowledged or served us – we were completely ignored for over 30 minutes. Instead, we were repeatedly sent from one station to another, each time with a different excuse ("We're closing soon," "You won't get anything without a reservation"). Another waiter even openly admitted that this was probably their usual tactic to close early – a disgrace for such a well-known Munich restaurant. When we finally asked, somewhat more insistently, why no one was serving us, we were finally allowed to order. The waiter then became rude, simply because we didn't want to leave a tip after this experience. Such behavior is unprofessional and simply disrespectful to guests. For us, it's clear: never again.

A very atmospheric brewery restaurant. We only went for drinks, so I can't comment on the food. The beers were heavenly.

It's nice and quaint, but simply catastrophically overcrowded. No matter what day it is. The staff are helplessly overwhelmed by the sheer number of people. Conversation is virtually impossible due to the extremely high noise level. You have to shout to be heard.

Honestly, this place deserves 0 stars if it were possible. We had a deeply uncomfortable experience at this restaurant in Munich. Upon arrival, we were led past the toilets into a dimly lit basement corner, where 3 out of 4 tables were occupied by Asian guests, including ours. The seating arrangement already felt questionable. When placing our order, the waitress repeatedly pressured us to order more drinks, despite us politely declining multiple times. Her tone was dismissive and pushy. We noticed she behaved similarly toward other Asian tables, showing clear bias and rudeness. This was not just poor service, as it felt targeted towards Asians. Reading other reviews afterward, we realised we weren’t alone in this experience. Please do avoid this place at all costs. Update: This is definitely not the wrong place, it was not a cellar but a corner in the lowest floor. To potential guests, dine at your own risk.

First things first: Presenting printed order slips ON THE FOOD IN FULL SIGHT OF THE CUSTOMERS??? Whether it's meat, salad, or sauce, when the food arrives from the kitchen on a tray at the station/table, the slip from the cash register/kitchen is stuck to the top of the plate, ON THE food...YUM! Then quickly shake it off and hand the plates to the guests...Yuck! Food: predominantly meaty (which is fine), I recently had "Braised Oven-Roasted Vegetables" - translated: 10 pieces of vegetables smothered in tomato sauce, with 4 cubes of feta cheese thrown on top. All for €14. That the ingredients were poor, that the price was exorbitant, well, okay, but that the vegetables weren't properly washed and there was a stone in the dish...sorry, no. Atmosphere: loud. Forget about having a normal conversation, it's a pub-like atmosphere. Service: pleasant, often at the table. Service: pleasant, often at the table. Table: clean, correctly labeled, and the online reservation option is excellent. What we didn't like: We made the reservation a week in advance and thought we'd be seated in the room with the copper barrels. Nope, our table was to the left of the entrance where there were many small tables. On top of that, the table was 5 meters from the restrooms, which reeked incredibly of urine (as several other reviewers here have also mentioned). I wouldn't recommend it, and this was definitely my last visit to a place I had praised so highly.

Typical, well-prepared food, characterized by strong, authentic flavors. A typical, shared atmosphere and authenticity. Cleanliness isn't the best, but you wouldn't expect more from a place like this.

The food was average, quite traditional. I tried the lunch. For the price, it's pretty good value in Germany! However, the service was so-so. They didn't seem to care much about serving us. But it's worth a try; the atmosphere is very German.

Last week, we were at Augustiner Bräu with 10 colleagues and were very disappointed with the service and the food. The waiter and the kitchen couldn't manage to bring out all the food at the same time. One of us had to wait 15 minutes longer, and another colleague 20 minutes longer. When the food finally arrived, it was almost cold. That was very disappointing. When we wanted to order drinks before the two main courses arrived, the waiter said, "All the food has to be here first, then we can order drinks." I've never experienced anything like that in any restaurant before, especially since the restaurant business makes its money from drinks... After we repeatedly asked the waiter for more drinks, another waiter took over our order. The original waiter refused to serve us. The same thing happened with the desserts. Of the five desserts we ordered, only the ones that were the same type arrived. That took another 20 minutes. On top of that, there was a huge shard of glass in the last dessert. That shouldn't have happened. The food was taken away for 5 minutes, but whether it was actually replaced is questionable. Perhaps the restaurant was very busy, but they had a lot of servers working. Ultimately, it was so loud that you had to shout to have a normal conversation. It's a shame it turned out this way, and we all had to be annoyed by the service and the food. We can only hope that on our next visit, they'll have more welcoming servers. As colleagues, we certainly won't be returning to this restaurant after our workshops.

Worst restaurant I've ever been to in Munich. The food was okay at best. The schnitzel was a bit greasy, and the potato salad just tasted sour. The apple strudel was terrible. There was hardly any apple in it, and the ends were basically just hard dough. Everything seemed disorganized. The waiter was overwhelmed and unfriendly. He was gone most of the time, almost never responded to hand signals, and part of our order was forgotten. On top of that, reservation signs were placed on tables after the fact, forcing even more people to sit at tables that were already full.

We were there with a group of 35 people. Everything went perfectly. Our waiter, Liviu, organized everything superbly. The food was excellent and arrived very quickly. A wonderful evening.
