African House in Frankfurt am Main

The food was very tasty and the atmosphere was nice. We sat on the really quiet terrace. In general, the service was very nice BUT I find it outrageous that the prices on the homepage are significantly lower than those on the menu in the restaurant. The dessert, for example, cost €6.90 instead of €4.50. My girlfriend visited me in Frankfurt and wanted to invite me to dinner as a thank you. We only noticed that the prices were so different on the train, but when we noticed it, it was very unpleasant for me because I had picked out the restaurant. In addition, her little daughter spontaneously joined us, who actually didn't eat ANYTHING from the buffet, which we expressly said and was apparently still billed under "Various dishes" at €5. Now you might think that this is due to a short-term price update, but when I told my mother she said that they had already done so last summer!!!! was also annoyed about the significantly different prices.

Beautiful backyard with very tasty food! Addendum from August 2025: unfortunately the service was subpar. The waitress only spoke English, which wasn't a problem for us, but didn't know what was on the menu. There was only one white wine and it wasn't on the menu. Unfortunately, when we wanted to order the coffee ceremony, she didn't even know what it was and then said that it didn't exist. Very slow and listless. The owner was friendly and accommodating, but spent most of the time (I guess) in the kitchen and not in service. The food was still super tasty!! The ambience was nice again in the back yard, but we were almost the only guests and in the end they didn't ask for any more drinks (the waitress was standing at the front and talking on the phone), so we left. Unfortunately, that ruined the atmosphere for us.

It used to be really good....The change of ownership wasn't good..... Unfortunately there is no advice in the service because no German communication is possible... it's a shame...

we had dinner there last night. The food was fantastic, generous portions and tastefully prepared. The service was a disaster, she only spoke English. Our drink order was a bottle of still water and a mixed wine with sparkling water, i.e. a spritzer, a glass and bottle of sparkling water came, we tried to complain, but that wasn't possible Lack of language skills on the part of the service staff. The toilets were also a bit of an adventure, there was water on the floor and there was no visible separation between women's and men's toilets. The outside signage explicitly said cocktail bar, but there were no cocktails, which we found very disappointing. Then it was time to pay, which was also very, very difficult, we wanted our bill to be split (3 people) that wasn't possible, as I understood it, because it wouldn't be possible in their cash register system, it would also be due to the language barrier failed. Card payment would also not have been possible since the day before yesterday due to a disruption, this should definitely have been communicated. Conclusion: Food absolutely recommended, everything else could be improved. We were asked if we could speak English, which two confirmed, but the waitress spoke English but didn't understand the orders at all.

It wasn't a failure. The food was quite ok. The waitress couldn't communicate well. Everything was a little chaotic.

We find out this place by chance and we are glad to have it now as an option for African food. The food was very tasty 😋, we ordered the vegan plate and it was more than enough for 2. Their African‘ Beers and Sodas are also very good!

Unfortunately, things are getting much worse here. The restaurant used to be really good. Little by little, many things that made it so attractive were changed. But the highlight came on my last visit: I ordered a dish that I have ordered several times before and when it arrived it looked completely different. I then asked and was told the menu had been changed and that was correct. At the end of the visit I took a second look at the menu and lo and behold I wasn't wrong, it was still there as before. I found it cheeky and the “new version” didn’t taste good either. All in all very disappointing and a shame about the loss of a beautiful restaurant.

Today - 8 years after the last visit - the shop proves again how good an African restaurant can be with its top service and excellent food. The attention to detail is unbeatable and provides the dopamine kick you need when eating. Be careful - you will stay pregnant afterwards. I'm glad that he survived even after Corona. I would give it 6 stars and would love to take all the plates, DjuDju Calabesh bowls and decorations home with me.

I've always been skeptical about East African cuisine for the last few years, but today I ended up in this restaurant on a whim that I've often passed by. The plate for two was great - a real treat. The ambience is stylish, comfortable but informal. The employees shine with their friendly, relaxed and people-oriented nature. I will be happy to come back.

The food wasn't special! But it could also have been because it was only available from the “buffet”! And if this was supposed to be a buffet...well!? Maybe we should rethink the concept!? I would not recommend this restaurant!!!

Unfortunately, the buffet was completely torn apart, wine and other drinks were all out, and beer was lukewarm. It's a shame but unfortunately very weak overall. The condition is nice but ultimately nothing for the money.

The food is just amazing, I go to the restaurant here every week and it tastes great every time! The mixed platter is recommended, as you get something from every dish. The Dju Dju Beer Mango is recommended for drinking and there are other varieties such as banana and pineapple. The service is also very pleasant, hospitable, flexible and even on special occasions such as birthdays, the service chooses the right song. The restaurant definitely gets 5 stars from me.

Very nice cozy restaurant. The food tastes really good and tastes like you are in Ethiopia. I can only recommend everyone to eat here, even if you've never had African food before, this is a good opportunity to try it.

We had a wonderful evening here. We have tried the buffet, it had 4-5 vegan choices and 2-3 meat ones, which was perfect for us. We have also shared a desert, which was also delicious and beautifully plated. The service was also very friendly and attentive. There was some nice music playing but not as loud that you could not have a conversation. We will come again :)

Inspection by the public order office on August 14, 2023: Not insignificant hygienic deficiencies were found that had a negative impact on the food and dishes. A mouse infestation was discovered. The rooms were so contaminated that a thorough cleaning of all equipment and surfaces was necessary. The company was officially closed.

Die veganen Portionen waren gestern viel kleiner als jede andere Portion mit Fleisch. Vielleicht schlechten Tag gehabt, aber nicht satt geworden.

Super leckeres, interessantes Essen, vor allem die gelbe Linsencreme hat mich überraschend überzeugt. Die Platte für mehrere Personen hält was sie verspricht und ist tatsächlich so groß, dass wir alle trotz großem Hunger satt wurden! Auch die Kellnerin und das Küchenpersonal waren sehr freundlich!

Wir haben hier mit unserem Kindern (5 & 8) einen sehr schönes Abendessen verbracht. Ok, es war nicht viel los, aber die Bedingung ist super auf unsere Kinder eingegangen und hatte eine tolle Empfehlung fürs Essen für die beiden. Auch unser Menü war total lecker. Wärmstens empfohlen.

Wir kommen hier so gerne hin. Das Essen ist super lecker!! Der Service ist einfach nur 1A, sehr herzlich! Zu 100% kann ich die Restaurantbar weiterempfehlen.

Wir lieben es hier. Meine best Freundin und ich gingen Jahrelang zu Abesinia am Zoo um afrikanisch zu essen, bis sie leider zu gemacht haben. Dann haben wir mehrere Restaurants getestet und sind schließlich hier gelandet. Wir lieben es es dort. Der Inhaber ist sehr nett und aufmerksam. Das Essen ist super lecker. Die Preise sind angemessen. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön, Voralpen nach der Renovierung. Und man kann auch schön im Innenhof sitzen und das Essen genießen 🤩 Für Neulinge der afrikanischen / eritreischen Küche würde ich auf jedenfall den Montagabend empfehlen, da hier ab 17 Uhr ein Büffet ist und man alles probieren kann. Wie nehmen immer eine vegetarische und Fleisch Platte auf einem Tablett und haben genug Auswahl (wenn wir nicht Montags da sind). Unser Favorit und neuer Stammrestaurant. ☺️

Ich habe vorher noch kein afrikanisches Essen gegessen und muss sagen, dass es ein gelungenes Erlebnis war. Wir haben den Mix-Teller für zwei Personen gegessen. Das afrikanische Bier kann ich sehr empfehlen und auch die Bedienung war absolut freundlich und zuvorkommend. Ich persönlich mochte das Brot nicht so gerne, aber ich glaube das ist reine Geschmackssache. Auch hätten die vegetarischen Komponente mehr Würze haben können. Mir kam es ausserdem so vor, dass die Musik drin zu laut ist, deshalb haben wir uns rausgesetzt. Draußen war die Lautstärke der Musik sehr angenehm. Der Preis ist angemessen, nicht durchaus günstig aber dennoch fair für Frankfurt City

Went here for dinner. Service was exceptional. Staff was very friendly and attentive, and gave us a description of all the sides that existed in our meal. Our leftovers were packed very nicely as well as a little extra. Definitely look forward to dining here again.

Vandaag zijn we min of meer toevallig gestrand in Wertheim an Mein, autoproblemen. Toevallig lopen we langs het African House. Een keer Afrikaans eten? Leuk idee. Maar wat een ervaring, briljant! Mooie ruimte en sfeer, fantastische bediening en bovenal een eetervaring die je niet wilt missen. Restaurant blijkt pas twee dagen open. Alles heeft een reden blijkt maar weer. Aanrader voor een ieder die een keer wat anders wil.

Die Bedienung, die Frau war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Die Atmosphäre ist 1A. Die Ausstattung ist so schön und die Toiletten sehr sauber. Die Dekoration in diesem Restaurant ist der Hammer. Ich kann es jedem weiterempfehlen👍.

Waren mit vier Top-Männern im African House, da das Ertra Ale im Stadtteil geschlossen war. COVID19-Regeln werden gut gehandhabt (2+). Unser Essen war sehr lecker, man musste allerdings auch lange darauf warten. Würzung, Portionsgröße und Frische waren absolut in Ergebnis. Der original eritreische Wirt war sehr freundlich, gab uns am Ende sogar noch einen feinen ostafrikanischen Whisky aus.

Schönes Ambiente & extrem leckeres Essen! Wir wollten für unsere Date Night mal was Anderes probieren und haben und für das African House entschieden. Der Service war super freundlich und hat uns gut beraten. Auf Wunsch haben wir eine komplett vegane Platte bekommen die einfach so lecker war, dass wir noch mehr bestellt haben. Von der Vorspeise über den Wein bis zum Dessert einfach nur top. Wir kommen sicher wieder!

Sehr köstliches Essen, neue Erfahrung mit den Händen zu essen (Besteck aber auch verfügbar), afrikanisches Bier aus Schalen. Lecker Nachtisch, schön eingerichtet und netter Service. Kann das Mango Bier und die Nummer 74 (Kürbis und Lamm) empfehlen.
