Aao Ji Restaurant - Altstadt Köpenick in Berlin

Wir lieben indisches Essen, hier wurden wir aber sehr enttäuscht. Das Butter Chicken hat nicht authentisch geschmeckt, eher wie ein Fertiggericht für Leute, die noch nie indisch gegessen haben und das Fleisch hatte eine sehr komische Konsistenz. Kann ich niemandem empfehlen!

Nette Aussicht. Bedienung i.O. Das Essen war jedoch sub-par, und für den Preis nicht zu rechtfertigen. Schade, wir hatten uns gefreut.

Das Essen war ungenießbar, ich habe noch nie so ein Hühnchenfleisch gesehen, wabbelig, gummihaft, wir haben nein Stück probiert und nicht weiter gegessen, wirkte absolut nicht in Ordnung. Verglichen mit anderen Indern war auch die Soße nicht besonders aromatisch. Wunsch nach Schärfe wurde aufgenommen aber nicht umgesetzt. Und, wie könnte es anders sein: keine Kartenzahlung. Wird natürlich auch erst gesagt, wenn man zahlen will.

Die Aussicht war definitiv hervorragend, aber das Essen entsprach nicht meinen Erwartungen. Es scheint ein gehobenes Restaurant in einer teuren und schönen Gegend zu sein, daher erwartet man auch entsprechend gutes Essen. Wir bestellten Chicken Tekka (gebacken), aber das Hähnchenfleisch war nicht frisch. Mir fiel sofort auf, dass zwei Stücke frisch waren, andere aber nicht mehr, da sie vom Vortag stammten und einfach vermischt wurden. Ich bin ein Feinschmecker und habe schon viele Restaurants und Länder besucht, daher kenne ich den Geschmack von Speisen sehr gut. Ich wollte nur anmerken, dass sie die Kundenmeinungen ernst nehmen und verstehen. Viel Glück!

Die Cocktails waren sehr lecker aber der Service leider unfreundlich

Ein sehr schönes Restaurant mit einem sehr schlechten Essen. Ich hatte Ente gegessen und habe anschließend extreme Schwierigkeiten gesundheitlich bekommen. Ich habe entsprechenden Hinweis nächsten Tag an das Restaurant gegeben, jedoch erfolgte hierauf keine wirkliche Reaktion.

Das Ambienten, direkt am Wasser, ist natürlich sehr schön. Die Terrasse ist zwar etwas sehr künstlich (viel Plastik) eingerichtet, aber damit kann ich leben. Die Kellner sich alle freundlich aber teilweise schwer zu verstehen. Das Essen fand ich immer sehr lecker und die Portionsgrößen sind gut. Es gibt eine große Cocktailliste zu erschwinglichen Preisen. Die schmecken auch sehr gut.

Lage, Lage ! Wenn man draußen sitzt bei schönen Wetter, phantastisch. Essen wird lieblos serviert und der Geschmack, naja. Eindeutige Meinung aller am Tisch.

Essen: Also das Knoblauch Naan war frisch und lecker. So und das war dann auch alles, was an diesem Restaurant-Besuch gut war. Das in der Karte beschriebene "knackige" Gemüse war weich. Die Kokossoße war extrem süß und sonst eher fade im Geschmack, wodurch das Gesamtgericht enttäuschte. Ambiente: Die Musik war sehr laut, wodurch Gespräche schwierig wurden. Service - gleich mehrere negative Punkte: unmotivierte/unfreundliche Kellner, die Vorspeise wurde vergessen und es gab Missverständnisse bei der Bestellung, weil die Kellnerin nur Englisch sprach (das wäre kein Problem, ich habe dann auf Englisch bestellt, aber sie hat vorher nichts gesagt sondern mich nur ratlos angeguckt als ich zunächst auf Deutsch bestellte). Außerdem haben sich die Kellner so dermaßen laut im Gastraum unterhalten (klar, bei der lauten Musik musste man ja schreien), dass es extrem anstehend war, sich dort aufzuhalten) Fazit: Insgesamt eine Erfahrung, die ich nicht wiederholen möchte. Ich kann die zahlreichen guten Bewertungen absolut nicht nachvollziehen.

Sehr schlechter service, außerdem nur Barzahlung

Der Laden ist super, das Essen fantastisch und die Leute auch. Aber im Jahr 2026 gibt es dort immer noch kein Kartenzahlungsgerät. Musste also PayPal als „Zahlung an Freunde“ nutzen. Kennst du ja!

Wir waren heute zum ersten Mal hier und es hat uns sehr gefallen. Schöne Lage direkt am Wasser und in der Altstadt Köpenick. Das Essen Butter Chicken und Chicken Korma war sehr lecker. Die Menge ausreichend um satt zu werden. Der Preis Top. Wir kommen jetzt öfter

man wird videoüberwacht, bei unklarheiten wird dann öffentlich nach den gästen (vorallem kinder) gefahndet. würde ich nicht hingehen , egal wie das essen ist.

Tut mir leid, ich dachte kurz, hey, das sieht attraktiv aus, ich mag indisch, ich sitz gerne am Wasser, aber wenn ich so eine Löschquote sehe, vermag ich mir nicht vorzustellen, welchen Grund das haben könnte, außer dass da jemand zu täuschen versucht. Und da bleibe ich dann besser weg. Und jetzt gucken wir doch mal, ob ihr versucht, diese Bewertung auch löschen zu lassen.

Absolutely delicious food accompanied by a nice Spree view. Friendly staff, they know what they're offering. I could feel their smile behind the masks which is rare to find. The whole place was clean and looks like they took all necessary precautions for covid-19. Strongly recommend it. Thank you for this nice service.

Wieder die Lieferzeit wieder unterirdisch. Wir wohnen in der Nähe dennoch wieder über eine Stunde Wartezeit. Argument des Restaurants: Wir kochen frisch; aha und warum wäre bei Abholung das Essen in 15 Minuten fertig? Beim Anruf nach 1:05 h wurde uns gesagt, der Fahrer wäre gleich da. Allerdings warteten wir weitere 15 Minuten. Also Lieferzeit statt angezeigten 40 Minuten waren es insgesamt 1,5 h. Das ist irreführend für Kunden und wie gesagt scheinbar üblich, da wir dies nun zum 2. Mal erleben mussten.

Haben uns gerade den Mittagstisch geteilt- obwohl wir keinen Hunger hatten.. mega lecker- unbedingt hingehen, wenn man in Köpenick ist!

Sehr leckere, indisches Gerichte. Viele Speisen werden auf Wunsch "nicht scharf" serviert. Das Servicepersonal ist teilweise unprofessionell und etwas unbeholfen. Etwa 6- 8 Bedienungen für ca.50 Gäste ist sehr ungewöhnlich und einfach zu viel in dem eh schon engen Gastraum. Die Lage direkt an der Spree ist sehr schön und es gibt einen großen Biergarten.

Wir waren nur kurz auf ein Bierchen da. Das Restaurant an sich ist sehr klein und vollgestopft mit landestypischen Figuren und ähnlichem. Der Außenbereich, direkt am Wasser gelegen, ist bestimmt 5 bis 6 mal größer. Um den Tresen herum haben bestimmt um die 10 Kellner gestanden. Trotzdem haben wir bestimmt eine Viertelstunde auf unsere Rechnung gewartet. Auf dem Weg zum WC sind rechter Hand Fenster die vor Toten Fliegen und Staub nur so strotzen. Die Toiletten an ich waren sauber aber das Waschbecken nicht. Hier wäre eine Renovierung und Sanierung angebracht.

Bester Inder in der Umgebung Köpenicks. Nicht nur das Essen, sondern auch die Cocktails sind fantastisch, welche man auch to-go bestellen kann! Sehr freundliche Bedienung und sehr einladende Ambiente! Definitiv einen Besuch wert

Auch im Winter ein feines kleines Restaurant mit vertretbaren Preisen. Essen schmeckt, auf Wunsch macht man es auch schön scharf. Einzig nervig war, dass das Personal nicht so richtig deutsch konnte, was die Äußerung von Sonderwünsche etwas schwierig machte.

Das Essen und die Atmosphäre sind gut. Empfehlenswert.

We were there for lunch. The dishes are very reasonably priced. However, the quality isn't the best—more like fast food. I can recommend better Indian restaurants in terms of taste. It's definitely adapted to German palates. The staff was friendly, if a bit reserved. We might try it again in the summer, but then probably for drinks on the terrace. It looks quite nice with its view of the water.

Great service, very friendly staff, and delicious food. The cocktails were a bit different than what you'd expect, but still very good. We spent time outside and really enjoyed it. It was cozy and had a view of the water. Unfortunately, there was no soap in the women's restroom!

I came in sober and crawled out completely drunk—exactly what a cocktail bar should be like. The drinks are brutally strong, but taste so good that you quickly forget to count. After the third cocktail, it was clear to me: There would be no straight way home today. A perfect blend of enjoyment and absolute escalation—five stars for the most sophisticated crash of my life.

I was absolutely thrilled with my visit to Aao ju in Köpenick! I received a very warm welcome upon entering and immediately felt at home. The ambiance is tastefully decorated – warm, cozy, and modern at the same time, allowing you to immerse yourself in the Indian atmosphere. The food was simply fantastic: every dish was freshly prepared, beautifully presented, and full of intense flavors. The butter chicken and paneer tikka masala in particular were a dream – creamy, spicy, and perfectly seasoned. The side dishes, such as naan and rice, were also fresh, fluffy, and incredibly delicious. The portion sizes are generous, so you'll go home full and happy. The service was attentive, friendly, and authentic. It never felt forced – but genuinely warm. Special requests were also immediately accommodated. The value for money here is absolutely spot on: you pay a fair price for the quality and freshness of the food. In conclusion: If you love Indian food (or want to get to know it), you should definitely come here. For me, this is clearly the best Indian restaurant in Köpenick—I'll definitely be back! 🙌

The restaurant is located in Köpenick's old town, right on the Müggelspree River. The service is okay. Unfortunately, you can only pay in cash. This is also stated on the menu.

I haven't been to an Indian restaurant in a while – my cousin and her husband invited me to their regular restaurant here. The value for money is very good, and I highly recommend the cocktails. It was still quite busy just before 9 p.m., and we had to wait a bit, but it was more than worth it. :) Thank you!

Very friendly staff! (The best thing about the place)! Unfortunately, the food wasn't impressive. The curry tasted like it had been diluted with water. The same goes for the cocktails. Low prices are tempting, but unfortunately they don't deliver... I'd rather make my own curry.

A super nice location right on the water. The service is fast and attentive without being intrusive. We enjoyed a leisurely cocktail here, all of which were delicious and you could taste the alcohol. The price, at €5 to €8, is really good value for this location. The restrooms are very clean. We can recommend the Aao Ji Restaurant.

Today I visited this restaurant and was a bit surprised that they only accept cash payments and don't accept card payments. Initially, I didn't have any cash with me, but I was able to organize it and pay. I wonder why such a large restaurant doesn't accept card payments—perhaps for practical reasons or due to certain accounting preferences for the tax office. The option to pay by card would certainly be very convenient for guests. The employee I dealt with was very friendly and helpful. Thank you for the service, and I wish the restaurant continued success.

Discovered by chance, right on the water, everything was top-notch, delicious food, and very friendly service. We'd gladly return.

A fantastic location in Köpenick's Old Town, by the water. The food was absolutely fantastic. The duck was incredibly crispy and the nut sauce was very flavorful. I personally would have preferred a bit more vegetables, but that didn't detract from the dish. Unfortunately, the service wasn't as great as the food. We often sat there with empty glasses and no wait staff in sight, or we chatted amongst ourselves without even glancing at the guests. A real shame!

Very beautifully designed restaurant. The food was really delicious; I've never had such tender chicken in a curry! The margaritas were also delicious. A bit pricey, but still within reason, and the food tasted really good. We waited at least 20 minutes for the food, but it was fresh and the drinks came sooner.

First of all: we enjoyed the food! On Thursdays, they offer a variety of dishes, including a soup starter, at a reasonable price. The small bread that accompanied it tasted excellent/was very interestingly prepared. But (!): Cash payment only. Of course, you only find out about this after the meal... The waitress completely ignored us. Didn't speak to us; the food was simply placed on the table and goodbye... Restrooms... Oh well.

I ordered food here for a short trip to Berlin. I was craving curry with naan, so I ordered it. Unfortunately, the food wasn't as good as described in the online reviews. Positive: + The curry sauce and raita yogurt tasted okay + Fast & uncomplicated delivery Negative: - The chicken was almost pink and bordering on undercooked - the squeaky texture spoiled my appetite after a few bites - The rice smelled 100% exactly like Uncle Ben's 3-Minute Rice and not homemade - The sauce was way too watery - The naan was completely tough as leather; you needed the strength of two chariots to chew it in one bite Overall, I'm really VERY disappointed; this was truly the worst Indian food I've ever had. Unfortunately, it doesn't even deserve two stars. What a shame.

The lunch menu is supposedly inexpensive, or rather, cheap and of good quality if you're happy with a small portion, a tiny piece of bread, and cold rice. The terrace desperately needs a cleaning crew. The toilets aren't great either. Card payments are nonexistent, which says a lot about where certain funds are "accounted for." My receipt also didn't comply with the new TSE system. But spending money on flashy boxes on the sidewalk in the entrance area, which guests have to pass reverently, spoils the appearance.

I ordered there many times and it’s damn delicious. They have awesome curries and veggie soup. I love their vidaloo curry. Their salad is funny, it has fruits. In my opinion a fantastic place to eat.

I had hoped to find a very good Indian restaurant in the center of Köpenick. I really enjoy Indian food, but above all, I like it to be at least somewhat authentic. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. Both the lentil soup and the curry were thickened in some way, which reminded me of German flour soups/sauces. However, since I haven't eaten Singaporean food before, I couldn't rule out whether that was necessarily the case. In any case, I can say that it was far from the food I know as Indian. And I know that Indian food is multifaceted and can vary depending on the region or country within India. Unfortunately, I was also very disappointed with the seasoning. Spicy food is practically nonexistent there, and no one asks if you'd like it "Indian spicy." In addition, no papadums or anything similar were served. However, we didn't ask if this was just an oversight. Well, finally, the mango lassi tasted like mango, but somehow it wasn't what it should be. Even the palak paneer didn't have the spice level I'm used to. Bottom line: I'm used to something different when it comes to Indian food.

Absolutely recommended! I was on vacation in Berlin and spontaneously tried the restaurant on the first evening - and was so impressed that I ate there three days in a row. A different dish every time, really delicious every time! We were particularly impressed by the curry, the mango curry and the peanut satay skewers. The naan bread was also super fresh and fluffy. The cocktails are not only great in terms of price, but also taste fantastic. The service was consistently very friendly, attentive and warm and you just feel comfortable. Beautiful terrace for sitting outside and also lovingly furnished inside. Thank you for the great experience!!! I'll definitely come back on my next visit to Berlin!

Was good food and very nice staff

Even the guest room smells like urine, the toilets and washrooms were dirty. The food we took home was obviously made with thickeners and additives. The service staff could hardly speak any German. Someone had to come out of the kitchen to take payment. The female service staff were apparently not allowed to have their wallets. I have no idea why there were almost 15 guests eating there. In any case, we will give the restaurant a wide berth.

butter chicken was unusually watery, very little flavour, slow service, would not recommend. also the same song is played on repeat, extremely annoying.

I give this rating because food quality is not good .and service a little bit normal.

Been here before in the summer, when they have a huge terrace by the water, which is in my opinion the best time to come here. However in winter just a few tables inside. Food is all well cooked, the Linsensuppe (lentil soup) was surprisingly good. Some dishes are a bit mild. Cocktails - good selection and not bad prices. Although everything comes with crushed ice and if you are after your favorite cocktail that you know well , then you might be disappointed. However this isn't really a problem, just keep open mind.

What can I say? The food is very tasty, the atmosphere is authentic by the water, very nice even in winter! But back to the food, the food was very tasty, not to say almost perfect. My colleague had duck itch, I had lamb vindaloo. It couldn't have tasted better. There was also naan bread with herbs and naan bread with garlic. It really tasted very good. The beer could have been better because there is only bitburger on tap, but everyone tastes it differently. In conclusion, I can say that please eat here if you want Indian food or if you want a little Chinese touch.

It wasn't really that convincing on the first visit months ago, but it deserves a second chance. And rightly so, this time I ate it spicy and it was delicious. Staff quick and very friendly. Gladly again.
