Great fish, as expected. Fair prices. I like going here, especially since there is enough parking space.

With self-service, prices are okay, the taste is also okay. The ambience is quite nice, nicer downstairs right by the water. A little loud inside.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly service and - most importantly - delicious fish. If you want to know what a crab roll should look and taste like, you should definitely stop by here. Addendum: unfortunately the quality of the prepared food has decreased significantly, but the prices have increased extremely. Unfortunately it can only be recommended to a limited extent.

Update: Still highly recommended, current pictures attached. This time the second menu was the giant currywurst and calamari tubes. Went there by bike, enough space in the yard. You order at the counter and the advice is just as friendly, especially if you're there for the first time. Plaice fillet and calamari tubes. You take drinks with you and find a place. There are several rooms, free choice. There are also places outside with a view of the sea. The waiting time is short and the buzzer sounds that the ordered food can be picked up. It's fresh, tasty and more than enough. Very happy again. Absolutely recommended! For those of you who aren't fish eaters, there are other dishes that also looked delicious.

We only had fish sandwiches and beer and were completely satisfied. The matjes was delicious, the staff was friendly and the seating was comfortable. Perfect.

If you want to eat delicious fish dishes, then Aalkate is the right place for you! However, you have to order food and drinks at the counter and pick them up yourself, i.e. self-service. We were there two days in a row and all the dishes were very delicious and freshly prepared in the kitchen. The plaice fillets are highly recommended and the shrimp lollies are also great. The employees were all very friendly - even in stressful situations with a long queue. You can sit outside and inside and also right by the water. There is a counter where you can buy a large selection of smoked fish and fish sandwiches. The Aalkate is a must for us when we are on Fehmarn!

Recommended restaurant. The food is super delicious. We went there for dinner twice during our vacation. The almond parmesan cod fillet with mashed potatoes was legendary.

One star deducted due to... Self-service, as nice as the “new” bar is, we found it more comfortable “before” with a beach chair in the garden.

We (8 people consisting of 2 families) came to the Aalkaate expecting to eat in a nice restaurant with service. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed because the dishes were quite expensive (17€ currywurst fries or meat dishes for 40€ without a side dish) and it was more of a self-service snack bar. After ordering at the counter, the first 4 people's food was already ready and the others still had to wait a good 20 minutes. Picking up the food was also difficult because you had to maneuver through people arriving and leaving. The food itself wasn't very good for the price asked, fries were flabby, cream sauce consisted of water but the fish was okay. If we had ordered the food we actually wanted, we would have spent around €60 per person. We gave up on that. About the service: The table was very dirty and was only cleaned upon request and there is no way to order anything (including drinks) without queuing again. The existing staff was very nice, but there could definitely be more of them.

I'm always happy when they say we're going to Fehmarn, which means they're going to "Aalkate".

Very friendly staff; Our reservation (12 people) was messed up, but they tried to fix it. The food was ok.

We always enjoy coming to the Aalkate on Fehmarn. On the one hand, because of the excellent food and on the other hand, because of the extremely friendly and courteous staff....

We made reservations in advance, which is recommended around public holidays. Worked great online. Super good food. Everything is self-service and works great. You can also take non-fish eaters with you, they will also find something tasty here. Cool atmosphere and don't forget to take a bite of fish from the counter to take home. Then see you next time.

Apparently you don't have to pay attention to or serve your guests these days!! I have rarely seen so much unfriendliness and disrespect! Can only warn everyone! Leave your money somewhere else!!

Great restaurant, beautiful pavilion, very attractive terrace that extends to the water. The fish is fresh - no matter what you order, it always tastes very good to me. The restaurant is clean. The staff is relaxed and friendly. Even when things are busy, everything seems well organized so that waiting times remain within reasonable limits.

Very tasty fish meal. But it's not a restaurant, more of a fast food restaurant. It's a bit confusing where to order your warm food, as fish, fish soups, fish salt, fish and super delicious fish rolls are sold at the entrance. Here you can sit inside and outside for warm meals. And while you're waiting, look at the ceilings.

Very tasty smoked products and fried fish, prices in the upper level

I've been going to Aalkate with my children for years. Great food and ambience. A must for all island visitors! The dishes are great! I tried a lot of things, from smoked fish to fries to fish curry, which I highly recommend.

We have been coming to the island for years - and a visit to the Aalkate is a must every time! We come here several times a holiday, because nowhere else can you find better Rollmops than here. But it's not just the food that's convincing: the relaxed chat with Christian behind the counter is just as much a part of it as the fantastic view over Fehmarnsund. If there were 6 stars to give, we would give them! Absolute highlight of every holiday!

Hello, despite all the love for smoked fish and the quality of Alkate, you rarely experience such listlessness and unfriendliness when dealing with customers. We've been getting smoked fish here for years, but today April 11th. around 2 p.m. was very unpleasant. Food and customers can't do anything for "not in the mood".

I wish there were 6 stars here. Our food was really incredibly good, from the fish to the side dishes. We were also impressed by the atmosphere in the cozy smokehouse and the uncomplicated self-service. The staff should also be mentioned positively here. We're definitely not coming for the last time. Thanks for the great food! Update 2025: Unfortunately it's no longer what it used to be. We were really looking forward to our meal at Aalkante after a great visit last year, but unfortunately nothing came of it. Despite being directly present at the counter, we were ignored for a full five minutes while the chef was on the phone. No quick note, no “just a moment,” nothing. The rest of the staff didn't seem to mind, even though the restaurant was pretty empty at the time. A professional service would have at least given a short feedback instead of simply ignoring guests. After five minutes we finally left the restaurant, disappointed and without dinner. It's a shame because we were really looking forward to this visit.

We have been coming to Aalkate for many years and it has always been one of our favorite restaurants. A lot has changed there in the last few years. We really like the extension with the winter garden and boathouse. We always liked the very warm welcome, but unfortunately that changed with the departure of the long-standing staff. But what really shocked us this year is the hidden price increase 😟. While there used to be 2 pieces of cod, now there is only 1 piece on the plate. You now pay extra for the side dishes that were previously included in the price. We paid just under €90 for 3x cod + side dishes and 3 drinks and that was self-service. It's a shame, but it doesn't work for us anymore

Besonders heute, als wir von Lars bedient wurden, waren wir total begeistert. Der Fisch, die Saucen und die Beilagen (Grillgemüse und Bratkartoffeln mit Speck) waren ein Traum! Everyone who visits this beautiful island has wanted to visit the Aalkate, a quaint restaurant.

Absolutely overpriced but good quality food. You probably pay for the location on the Baltic Sea. The staff is friendly and helpful

Eel isn't really my thing, but I ate delicious cod and sat on the terrace and looked at the sea - what could be nicer? Nice (self) service, clean toilets.

No visit to Fehmarn is complete without a visit to the Aalkate. The best fish ever and great wine. Comfortable seating and a relaxing atmosphere. It's always worth it :)

The Aalkate is rightly known throughout Germany as a prime spot for smoked meats and fresh seafood. Reservations are a good idea, even in the off-season, if you want to spend a cozy evening with a happy stomach. Thanks to the team! We'll be back.

Great food..... we ate there almost every day on vacation... Self-service, but that doesn't bother us

We were in the Aalkate today and stood in front of the ordering counter a little too long for the chef, even though there were no customers at the counter. There were about 10 guests in the restaurant. We just wanted to read the offers written above the counter. Without asking what we would like, the chef snapped that we should take the menu from the table in the front of the house because the menu above the counter was the summer menu (probably from the previous year). He turns around and disappears without us being able to order anything. So service looks different for me. Unfortunately, we can't give a rating for the food, but we've lost our appetite and won't be coming back... it's a shame, it's such a beautiful day today

Great advice for non-fish connoisseurs. Super tasty fresh fish in an absolutely great atmosphere. Simply awesome. Whether sandwiches, fresh squid rings, great tuna. I'll be back when we're back on the island. See you soon. ;)

Sensational! This is the place/the fish/the preparation we were hoping for on Fehmarn! If there could be 10 stars/Aalkate would have gotten them from us! Super deliciously prepared/great side dishes/everything fresh and the sauces for the fish: a dream! The atmosphere is super nice and super cozy with gas ovens! You order & pay directly from the chef and receive a pager/ which notifies you/ when the food is ready/ whereupon you pick it up from the kitchen. For us, this is not a deduction in the “B grade” / rather a very nice contact. We are already looking forward to the next time! (and the treats/that we took home with us🥰)

We ordered takeaway at 8:30 p.m. and it wasn't ready when we arrived at that time. The team immediately apologized and drinks were provided on the house. The chef and the staff were super friendly, even when the stress was very high. There was a lot going on that evening. Really exemplary! The food itself was very good. The next evening we bought smoked eel and seaweed salad at the fish counter. The employee there was also very friendly. Conclusion, a great restaurant/fish sale.

Quite overpriced. Especially considering it is a self service. We waited over an hour for our order during off season(january). We were quite disappointed with a cold and tasteless meal. Plate was half empty. Definetely not worth it.

My darling and I are thrilled! A weekend in Lemkenhafen and every day in the Aalkate - because it was soooo delicious. Great service, great chef and absolutely fair prices for this quality. We even took the food with us, we can't begin to imagine how outstanding the food there must be. Thank you, you made the weekend perfect for us. We will definitely be back and will tell everyone in the Bay of Lübeck about the Aalkate in Lemkenhafen :)

Would have liked to eat there. After calling to make a reservation, we were told that no more reservations would be accepted as there should still be places available for spontaneous guests. We should just come over like that. When we got there two hours later, we were told that all the seats were reserved. It wasn't that nice.

The selection of freshly prepared fish and seafood is unbeatable. Whether it's delicious smoked eel, juicy mackerel or tender salmon - everything tastes as if it came straight from the Baltic Sea to your plate. The smoked eel in particular is an absolute highlight for us, a real classic that we always like to take with us to enjoy the taste of Fehmarn at home. When we eat on site, we enjoy the relaxed, maritime atmosphere of the Aalkate. The rustic furnishings and the view of the surrounding nature make the visit an experience that goes far beyond the food. No matter whether you take a seat inside or sit outside when the weather is good - you just feel comfortable. The service is equally excellent. The staff are friendly, courteous and take the time to answer questions about the different types of fish or give tips on how to prepare the products you bring with you. Conclusion: For us, Aalkate Fehmarn is a place where we have been able to enjoy consistently high quality for years. First of all, we come out of the pot really angry and totally disappointed, we go on holiday on the island and before we go home we always go shopping in the eel menu. Now we want to do it too. Opened at 10 a.m., normal posted opening hours, go in and get next to nothing, no stremel salmon no gambas no halibut when I go to the bakery when it opens and I don't get any rolls because I think the Aa card isn't exactly cheap and I always didn't care about the price but didn't get anything Just sad when it opens in the morning

When we are nearby we eat there, a top seafood restaurant. Very nice atmosphere, great friendly, guest-oriented team. We're looking forward to being able to sit by the water again in the summer and enjoy the great fish. Keep it up. P.S.: If the self-service bothers you, please go somewhere else. In my opinion, it's a great concept to continue to achieve a good price-performance ratio in the catering industry.

We had three nice and delicious hours there on New Year's Eve 2024. The staff yesterday was great. So friendly, accommodating and funny too. The food on site and also the smoked products outside the house were really great. An absolute recommendation 👌🏻👌🏻

Cool location with a beautiful view. Fish also good, but you have to know that it is self-service. So, in the cold I had to run back and forth several times. I didn't think the prices were cheap...

One of, if not the best fish restaurant in the area. Well presented fish dishes, cleverly prepared and always to the point. It's particularly nice to sit in the boathouse. Good portions at completely reasonable prices. Caraway schnapps is available on the house after your meal. The restaurant is self-service. However, this in no way disturbs the ambience. Particularly noteworthy are the scallops and the fish plate. Always happy 🫶🏻

The food was delicious and the winter garden was beautiful. A point was deducted because the waiting time for the food to arrive took almost 45 minutes.

On the evening of December 20, 2024, after our arrival, we ordered a fish platter with rosemary potatoes and fried potatoes with bacon for 63 euros. Unfortunately this time not as good as usual in previous years. The fish was fried to death. The rosemary potatoes were ok and the fried potatoes were unfortunately not. You simply took rosemary potatoes and mixed in a few cubes of bacon. Were very disappointed this time.

Really nice there! We went there briefly in December to eat a fish sandwich, it was delicious! There are already enough photos of the food there. The service staff was very friendly. It's definitely packed in the summer, because you can also sit outside by the sea! Recommendation!

Formerly a rustic restaurant with delicious fish. However, after a lot of, and too modern, additions were made, it is now just a tourist destination like many others. Which also attracts too many people. Unfortunately, the ambience was lost. It's a shame.

Es empfiehlt sich, vorher einen Tisch zu reservieren. Dies haben wir im Voraus online getan. Die Speisenauswahl ist vielfältig. Wir hatten als Vorspeise die Garnelen mit Knoblauchdip - sehr lecker! Als Hauptspeise gab es Scholle und Tintenfisch. Die Portionen sind reichlich!

The Aalkate is definitely worth a visit! There is no table service (hence zero stars), but the staff is very friendly. You order at the counter and pick up the food when a buzzer rings. The food is freshly prepared and tastes wonderfully delicious. We had fresh cutter plaice with bacon, perfectly fried, crispy, juicy on the inside and cod with house breading and (mild) mustard sauce. Delicious. And if you're lucky with the weather and the restaurant's occupancy, there are also nice outdoor spaces with a sea view.

The food was very tasty and the staff was super friendly. I can only recommend it. I don't have a problem getting my own food and I don't see it as a disadvantage, but reordering drinks is a hassle when there's a huge queue there.

Good food, good time and nice team. We eat fresh and crunchy, prepared with good ingredients and tastes good. For me, the relatively steep prices don't go well with the fact that you have to order the food at the counter and pick it up, as you would normally do in a snack bar. However, we attribute this more to the widespread lack of staff in the catering industry. In any case, the existing people have their shop under control and are working quickly. Highly recommended if you want something a little different.

Great restaurant, super nice team. The food is simply delicious and the price is completely reasonable. As a trained chef, I can only recommend it. We had the sea bream, the panfish and prawn lollipop. We ate there in October.
