Really nice there! We went there briefly in December to eat a fish sandwich, it was delicious! There are already enough photos of the food there. The service staff was very friendly. It's definitely packed in the summer, because you can also sit outside by the sea! Recommendation!

The smoked fish is super tasty, but you have to be patient if you want to eat something there. Otherwise you can sit there nicely, we liked the atmosphere.

Formerly a rustic restaurant with delicious fish. However, after a lot of, and too modern, additions were made, it is now just a tourist destination like many others. Which also attracts too many people. Unfortunately, the ambience was lost. It's a shame.

The food is very overpriced. It's delicious. Only self-service with employees who barely understand you. Price performance doesn't fit at all.

Es empfiehlt sich, vorher einen Tisch zu reservieren. Dies haben wir im Voraus online getan. Die Speisenauswahl ist vielfältig. Wir hatten als Vorspeise die Garnelen mit Knoblauchdip - sehr lecker! Als Hauptspeise gab es Scholle und Tintenfisch. Die Portionen sind reichlich!

The Aalkate is definitely worth a visit! There is no table service (hence zero stars), but the staff is very friendly. You order at the counter and pick up the food when a buzzer rings. The food is freshly prepared and tastes wonderfully delicious. We had fresh cutter plaice with bacon, perfectly fried, crispy, juicy on the inside and cod with house breading and (mild) mustard sauce. Delicious. And if you're lucky with the weather and the restaurant's occupancy, there are also nice outdoor spaces with a sea view.

The food was very tasty and the staff was super friendly. I can only recommend it. I don't have a problem getting my own food and I don't see it as a disadvantage, but reordering drinks is a hassle when there's a huge queue there.

An incredibly great location, nice staff and the food is an absolute dream.... Visual presentation, taste and quality are worth more than 5 stars... We will come back...

Good food, good time and nice team. We eat fresh and crunchy, prepared with good ingredients and tastes good. For me, the relatively steep prices don't go well with the fact that you have to order the food at the counter and pick it up, as you would normally do in a snack bar. However, we attribute this more to the widespread lack of staff in the catering industry. In any case, the existing people have their shop under control and are working quickly. Highly recommended if you want something a little different.

Unfortunately we find that the eel and other smoked foods are very dry and the taste is no longer what it used to be, we have known the eel menu for 40 years...

Great restaurant, super nice team. The food is simply delicious and the price is completely reasonable. As a trained chef, I can only recommend it. We had the sea bream, the panfish and prawn lollipop. We ate there in October.

Very busy at peak times, the food is excellent, only the fried fish was clearly of poor quality. Beautiful lakeside terrace.

Wonderful environment as well as food

Nice excursion restaurant, beautifully located on the water, smoked fish to take away. Food quite expensive (around €20 average for self-service), ok quality. Nice seating when the weather is nice, but rather dark and stuffy inside.

Was there for the first but definitely not the last time! Excellent organization, the staff was super nice and the food can only be recommended! If you're on Fehmarn, you shouldn't miss the food here.

We ate here for the first time last week. Luckily we had reserved a table. Let's start with the positive. The ambience is really very good. The guest room is very nicely designed. The old smoking ovens are integrated and there is also a lot else that has to do with fishing and seafaring. The food was very good. We had the fish curry and the cod fillet in house breading in Dijon mustard sauce with rosemary potatoes. What we found difficult was reserving a table. We made reservations online at the boathouse. The only free tables that could be reserved. The boathouse was closed. Then there was the staffing situation: there weren't enough service staff and there was a lot going on on Saturday evenings. It was difficult to get someone (we walked through the restaurant three times) to ask for our table. But all in all, you can't blame the restaurant for that and we would come back again.

Everything is very good quality. Reasonably priced.

As always: great food, great views, places right on the Baltic Sea. Later note and corrected stars: When we visited in September we sat in the glass structure by the bar and our table was extremely sticky and uncomfortable. The prices have probably reached their upper limit, considering that it is, after all, self-service.

For over 20 years we have come by more than once on every holiday. We always enjoy the delicious fish sandwiches.

We were 3 times on Fehmarn & at the Aalkarte twice, just because we only discovered the restaurant on the second day. Both the fish counter and the menu are excellent! 10/10 we'll be back! 🐟🐡🐠🍤

Just great👍👍. Everything freshly prepared, large portions, tasteful. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff. We didn't regret spending our 41st wedding anniversary in the restaurant with good food and great wine.

Das Essen sowie die Portionen sind gut. Allerdings ist es Selbstbedienung. Deshalb einen Punkt weniger. Für Familien mit Kleinkindern eher weniger geeignet, da die Tische sehr hoch sind und durch die Selbstbedienung eine hektische Stimmung ist.

We had dinner there. On the one hand, we were a bit disappointed that there was no service here. Self-service food and drinks. It was also really cold. There was therefore no restaurant feeling, just a snack bar feeling. My husband and daughter had leftover paper in their food. After returning both meals, my husband found paper residue in his food again. Although we received the price for both meals plus dessert, something like that is NOT allowed - especially at such prices. For example salmon (just the salmon) €21.90 plus extra vegetables €5.90 and potatoes €4.90. Pay everything extra. Sorry, we are disappointed!

So for us Fehmarn lovers it's the best way to eat fish! Whether it's a fish sandwich, as a snack with a great atmosphere or as a full meal, you can simply enjoy it! The big thing yesterday was that we were undecided and were personally advised by the chef 😀... Great service with great food! We'll be back!

A self-service system like in the large hall near Gosch on Sylt. We didn't understand it right away, but then it worked really well. Service staff very friendly and helpful. Food prepared quickly and really tasty. Recommended Addendum a year later, today we were there again for dinner. Like last time, friendly and helpful staff. Delicious food, still recommended.

We reserved a table in the “Boatshaus” for 6 p.m. today. I started looking for a parking space, far too little for the size of the restaurant. We got a table right at the entrance door and sat completely in the train because people were constantly going in and out (self-service). After 20 minutes my feet were cold and there was a draft coming from the door. The atmosphere in the “Boat House” reminded me more of a train station hall (in the Boat House everyone was constantly running across the restaurant, sometimes to amuse the children or to get food from the main building or to order drinks at the counter). The concept of self-service wasn't entirely clear to me, as you had to walk a few meters across the yard from the "boathouse" to the main building (I wonder how you get your food over in the pouring rain 🤔🤔). At Gosch you at least have your cutlery at the table and don't have to fetch it in addition to the plates of food. I had imagined the ambience of the “boathouse” to be more comfortable, but as I said, the station hall (Gosch and even McDonald’s were nicer). And you pay over €30 for some dishes!!! NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

Self-service is O.K. But in other self-service restaurants at least the cutlery is on the table. We sat in the boathouse, but it was like being in a train station. Even the canteen at home is beautifully decorated, but there is no boathouse decoration here. The food was delicious, but that's the only positive thing. Parking spaces are also in short supply. No recommendation, prefer to cook yourself in the apartment. 👎👎

The ambience of the outdoor seating area, with a view of the Fehmarnsund Bridge illuminated by the evening sun, is a dream. The staff friendly and competent. A fine selection of drinks and the almond parmesan cod fillet is delicious. Nevertheless, to my disappointment, I miss the eel on the menu, but also simple types of fish from the region, such as unfilleted plaice, herring, garfish and mackerel.

The self-service food here is really good, but it also comes at a price. But the dishes are very attractively prepared and taste very good. You can eat outside or in the winter garden. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

Food as always excellent. Unfortunately, many tables with a view of the bay were reserved. Unfortunately you didn't see the signs straight away and then it was annoying that you had to get up.

Very, very beautiful natural picture outside on the terrace, service was very nice and the food was very tasty. Had the tuna steak in a sesame crust and was surprised at how delicious it tasted.

Best fish restaurant in Fehmarn. Mandatory every time you visit the island. Absolutely fresh food and a great atmosphere

First of all, I have to say that the quality and taste of the food was exquisite. The size of the portions of the fried fish leaves a lot to be desired. When we were here four years ago, we were full after eating. Today we had to order another meal so we wouldn't leave there hungry. This at a price of over 20 euros per person. Oh well.

A super nice restaurant with a view of the sea and great food. There is something here for fish lovers, but also for those who don't eat fish. Dogs are very welcome here. The only drawback is the self-service for drinks and food. Here it would be nicer to be served and not have to clear the table yourself. We'd love to come back! :)

Unfortunately we were very disappointed this year! We've been coming to Aalkate for dinner every year for my husband's birthday for the last four years. The first 2 years were really awesome! Last year we were very disappointed because the food had already deteriorated significantly. But this year really wasn't good at all! The portions have been halved and the price has gone extremely high. The price-performance ratio is no longer right here! In addition, the food is no longer beautifully presented! It's a real shame... We won't be coming back!

The Aalkate Lemkenhafen is a self-service restaurant for fish lovers. The food there is great, the quality is excellent. Even if it's not necessarily cheap, the food is definitely worth it. Highly recommended.

The eel cat was recommended to us. The food is good and plentiful. Staff only speaks broken German. Everything is kind of like a big canteen. You have to get your own food and drinks and clear the dishes yourself. The staff doesn't have time for that and has to play on their cell phones. The tables are also only wiped sporadically. In any case, we won't be eating there again. For 75€ for two main courses, with two side dishes each that you have to pay extra for, plus a drink each, I think it's more like a tourist option. As I said, the food is delicious and good, you can forget the rest.

Hello, my dears We went to Aalkate and ate there. The food was phenomenal and the smoked eels were also great. We were even allowed to take our dog (border collie) with us, the service was great, so we absolutely recommend it. We had 3 pieces of mashed potatoes Salad and Zero Cola totaled 54€ which was appropriate... so rush there if you're in Fehmarn 👍👍👍🌻

Delicious food and if you can sit outside you have a nice view of the water and the bridge. Idyllic.

This restaurant was reminiscent of a canteen where you had to get your own food, which took forever. However, you also have to admit that this restaurant is obviously a victim of a lack of staff.

The best fish I've ever eaten: "sesame-crusted tuna with wakame". It's expensive, but very tasty and I think it's worth the money. Disadvantage: I would like to drink some tea. I was supposed to get it "at the front" where the out-of-home sales are, but there was a line there... Guys, you can't seriously expect that I, as a guest of the restaurant, will stand in line at the sales counter again... that really has to be organized differently. Therefore 1 star deducted.

For 35 years, when I was still a student, I have been coming to the Aalkate every time I am on Fehmarn. Great quality. And it has retained its character and has not succumbed to “Goschization”. A prime example of how to gradually develop and expand a business. Bravo.

We were a bit skeptical at first because of the self-service concept. In terms of price, we think it's a bit too expensive. But the quality is good and given the number of guests, it wouldn't be manageable with service. The staff is very friendly. The plaice and salmon were nice and crispy, just the way we love it. Unfortunately a bit too dry. The bacon with onions and apples on the plaice was an interesting variation and very tasty. We both found the lime sauce that was served with the salmon very tasty. Despite the small criticism about the fish, it's still worth recommending. We'd love to come back again. Update 9/2024: We also visited the Aalkate several times on our third vacation on Fehmarn. We always eat here. Reservation is definitely recommended. With a bit of luck you can even sit down somewhere.

A beautiful location in itself. Unfortunately, the fact that you have to order your food yourself at the counter, pick it up and finally clear it away (should) give you the feeling of being in a beer garden (to put it nicely) or a canteen. In addition, what we ate was just “okay” and not really tasty. Little seasoning (lobster sauce was very thin and tasteless, mashed potatoes were plentiful but also boring, almond parmesan crust tasted neither of almonds nor of a hint of parmesan) and the prices were relatively ambitious. We got pretty full. But nothing more. Too bad. At least the employees are friendly

Für ein lausig belegtes Fischbrötchen 4,50€, das ist Abzocke hoch drei. Nachdem der Rennboot-vernarrte Sohn das Restaurant und den halben Ort übernommen hat, gehen die Preise durch die Decke! Wir sind mit 5 Mann weiter, wir finanzieren doch nicht das Hobby.....

Nice gastronomy with bad, high-priced food. For 21 euros without any side dishes, I don't expect a breaded and deep-fried fast food style plaice fillet! Every fair can do a better job with the fried fish. Unfriendly service including. This restaurant thrives on the hype of days gone by. Nice restaurant, poor food! Never again!!!

A visit is mandatory at least once when we are on Fehmarn. Super tasty fresh fish......Zander fillet and tuna in a sesame crust....a dream........the additional boathouse restaurant and bar also make it even more perfect

The food itself was very tasty, but the prices were very high. My Steinbeisser was delicious but with baked potatoes it cost just under €25.

Unfortunately, I didn't like the plaice at all, or rather, it didn't taste like anything. I also assumed it was a restaurant, but you had to serve yourself, so you can't call it service. The only really nice thing was the terrace outside on the Baltic Sea. Very nice and lots of ambience. I will not recommend this restaurant. I was very disappointed.

The food itself was tasty and of good quality. The self-service didn't bother us either because it meant there was less pressure when choosing dishes. What speaks against the restaurant is that the dishes are relatively expensive and you have to order a side dish separately. I was also disappointed with the keisergranata for the soup because it had almost no fish in it. The tiramisu, on the other hand, is very good. A bit disappointing overall, but still a good restaurant for fish fans. Gladly again.

Dieser Laden und Inhaber bekommt den Hals nicht voll genug. Vor 8 Wochen da gewesen. Preise waren schon sehr teuer. Im Internet geschaut ob es Preiserhöhung gab nicht aktualisiert. Vor Ort alle Preise um 20 Prozent erhöht. Aalkatenriesling von 6,90 auf 8,40 Euro bei Selbstbefriedigung. Dem Mann gehört die halbe Lemkenhafen. Bei den Preisen will demnächst die ganze Insel kaufen. Ich kann hier wirklich nur sagen es wird nichts mehr billiger aber hier ist das Ende der Fahnenstange erreicht. Bitte, bitte meidet diesen Laden mit der Ausverschaemtheit an Preisen. Setzt Euch hier schön hin rsst und trinkt nicht. Doll alles selber essen und trinken....es ist eine Frechheit...so gierig und Ausverschaemtheit zu sein 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Authentic restaurant with high-quality and delicious food. We were there three times and were thrilled every time! The kitchen team there does a great job and it's really fun to watch them give full throttle as a well-coordinated team. Always my pleasure! ♥️

We have really enjoyed being here over the last few years. But it gets harder every year... Unfortunately, it has long been obvious that there is a complete lack of proportion when it comes to drink prices on the island. Also here in the Aalkate. But this year you really hit the jackpot with a fried fish roll for €9.90! The price is difficult to justify. But the size of the portion!! That's really cheeky... and there's not even any service! You have to get your own food at the counter. That was probably our last visit because the price-performance ratio has unfortunately been completely wrong in recent years.

As in every summer, no Fehmarn holiday is possible without a stop at the Aalkate. Service and food were also great this year and the extra tasting by Christian led to the purchase of various spirits, which we can only recommend (Aalkatenlikör; Feldler rööv): Fehmarzz to take away!!! Disappointing value for money. The stremella salmon roll had a mild taste, the fries were insufficiently seasoned, but the prices were high

The food was okay, not overly good, but not bad either. The service, on the other hand, is a joke because it doesn't exist! Order at the counter…After 10 minutes of queuing…20 minutes later you can bring your food to the table yourself. Like in a cafeteria, only much slower.

I regularly get fresh smoked fish and fish sandwiches here. These are A1 across the board and there is absolutely nothing to complain about here. As far as the lunch and dinner menu is concerned, I have always skipped this so I can't say anything about it.
