I recently had lunch at 1821 with three people. The positive first: The ambience was pleasant and the service was first-class, so we felt very comfortable. The wines were also A1. However, considering the price, the food was mixed: the roast was good, but the spaetzle was a bit overcooked. The fries were crispy, but too salty. To a certain extent, this is also a matter of taste. We were really disappointed with the Wiener Schnitzel. The anticipation was great, because you can't get real Wiener Schnitzel (i.e. veal) everywhere. The taste was okay, but the breading looked pale and came off the meat in pieces. At a price beyond €30, something like this shouldn't happen. I would still come back and try other dishes, maybe my rating will change.

We held our Christmas party here and were completely satisfied! The onion roast was absolutely amazing – so tender and tasty, a real highlight. The service was also great, friendly and attentive. Thank you for a successful evening, we'll be happy to come back!

The food was ok but unfortunately everything was soaked in fat. The service was virtually non-existent, we had to go to the bar several times to order drinks again, but they still took forever to arrive, more than 30 minutes. I find the price-performance ratio difficult because the portions were really small. It was also extremely loud in the restaurant and there was loud music playing in the background, sometimes you had to shout at each other at the table. The restaurant is not barrier-free. I definitely won't go there again.

After I saw the restaurant on My Local Your Local, I wanted to visit the restaurant myself. So 6 of us ate here yesterday afternoon. All the dishes were beautifully prepared and tasted absolutely spot on, very, very tasty. The ambience top location. The service is world class!!! Very professional. We can recommend the restaurant 100% and would be happy to come back.

Wir waren im Rahmen einer Betriebsfeier mit ca.60 Leuten da. Der Laden ist wirklich schön und sehr groß. Man sieht auch viele schöne details und auch dass eine menge geld in den Umbau/Einrichtung geflossen ist. An dem tag war es sehr voll, insofern noch verständlich dass wir über 1,5 Stunden auf unser Essen gewartet haben. Aber leider war das Essen wirklich unterste Schublade. Man versucht gehobene Gastronomie zu verkaufen aber Geschmacklich ist man definitiv eher im unteren Bereich. Der zwiebelrostbraten war mittelmäßig und der Fisch sogar unterstes niveau. Es war kalt, zu arg gegart, zu wenig Salz darüberhinaus keine Beilage ausser ein bisschen kürbispüree. Alles schön angerichtet aber der Inhalt stimmt nicht. Nachtisch war insgesamt besser. Es wird zu viel Wert auf den schein gelegt und weniger auf den Inhalt. Ich würde hier nie wieder essen da für mich immer noch der Geschmack über allem steht. Sorry aber bitte Hausaufgaben machen

The enthusiasm is limited. First of all, on the positive side, the ambience is beautifully decorated and offers a great atmosphere. The staff was also quite friendly, but they could be a lot quicker to take the orders, they should keep an overview in order to bring the things to the right table, also clear away used glasses, etc. The coordination is completely confusing and there is no one whatsoever Assignment. This is evident here from start to finish. A half-hour wait for a beer is not the burner.... The waiting time for the food was no longer really tolerable and was 1 hour and 45 minutes, i.e. entering the inn at 6.30 p.m. and it was served at 8.15 p.m. The crowning glory came with eating the onion roast, which tasted great and was fried to perfection and then only a quarter of an hour later the accompanying spaetzle, which was also oversalted. What's the timing here? That doesn't work at all. One visit is enough here, I can tell point of view are not recommended. The prices are significantly too expensive in relation to the portions and what is offered/provided.

Excellent food, very friendly service and great ambience. Tiny drawback: Our table was diagonally to the right of the bar. Every time the door opened you got a cold draft. Maybe something could be changed with a heavy curtain? I would like to emphasize: there were 15 of us and we all had our main course with completely different dishes almost at the same time. That says a lot about the professionalism of the kitchen.

Rarely eaten so well. Meat fried to perfection. Price-performance ratio is right. The portions were enough to fill us up. The dessert was to die for. We'll be back 🙂

Since the restaurant makes a good impression from the outside, I would have liked to have eaten there. The homepage, which tries to be hip in a weird way in English, and especially the online reservation form put me off. So can't say anything about the food or the service. I'm probably not part of the target group :-(

The food was very tasty, the starter and main course were a delightful experience. Restaurant is very attractively decorated. The restaurant was packed, which probably came from the TV show. So be sure to reserve. Service was OK.

Leider kann man nicht viel positives zum Restaurant sagen. Wir haben 1 1/4 Stunden auf ein Essen gewartet, das auch noch kalt war. Der Kaiserschmarrn war so schlecht und nicht selbstgemacht, wir haben ihn zurügehen lassen. Preis/Leistung ist hier mangelhaft. Die Servicemitarbeiter waren auch ziemlich überfordert und einige von ihnen unhöflich. Zu allem Überfluss wurden jegliche Gesprächsversuche durch laute kopfschmerzverursachende Musik unmöglich gemacht.

We visited the Restaurant 1821 in Tübingen and had an overall very positive impression. Despite a full reservation list and our spontaneous arrival from Ludwigsburg, the attentive staff organized a table for us. We were very impressed by this commitment and the friendliness of the team. To eat: I had the onion roast with spaetzle, and my wife chose the "Schweinerei". Both dishes tasted excellent and demonstrated high quality and skill in the kitchen. The service was consistently competent and friendly, and the waiting time for the food was just right. The ambience of the restaurant was attractive and well-kept, as were the sanitary facilities. A small downside was the live musical performance around 9 p.m., which offered a nice change, but was a bit too loud for my taste. Overall, a successful evening in a restaurant with very good service and delicious food. We would be happy to come back and thank you again for the flexibility and attentiveness of the team!

I've never been charged for tap water - only there. Friends had already recommended the 1821 to me; they found it good during the week. We were there as a group of 7 on a Saturday and then sat at a large table with another group. The toilets were dirty (both men's and women's). The main course (the roast) came 10 minutes before the side dish (Spätzle). When paying we were informed for the first time that card payment was not working due to an internet outage. This should have been communicated straight away. Just like the point that tap water costs - this was not explicitly mentioned when ordering, nor was it listed on the menu. This has never happened to me in Germany, where I am charged €6.80 for 2 carafes of water. Which I also find the price, considering that it is calculated, really a lot and very disproportionate. I then canceled the next reservation for a larger group.

Well, if you can't order a drink with your meal because the service is overloaded, it's not a good review either, there are much better restaurants in Tübingen

Very friendly and prompt service. The menu is small, clear and very well thought out. The food was exceptionally good. The roast was to the point and the side dishes were of very high quality. The salad is super fresh and crunchy. The prices are absolutely reasonable for what you get. Gladly again

We finally got around to booking a table at 1821 - and we will definitely go there more often. Great atmosphere, beautifully presented food that was also very tasty. Great restaurant with ambience, good food - something different. However, portions are very small, also or precisely because there are a lot of components together, you can sometimes taste very little. Sophistication there, but the taste can be improved. All in all we had a lovely evening.

Ich habe alles genossen: die Einrichtung in Schwarz-Gold, den aufmerksamen Service und besonders mein Gericht (die Maultaschen). Ich würde die Erfahrung "1821" als einen modernen Spaziergang in einer kulinarischen Geschmackswelt bezeichnen, die ihresgleichen sucht, gekrönt von einem einzigartigen Dessert mit botanischem Namen... Veilchen, Aniskresse and Co. harmonieren mit dem Pistazieneis und der Käsekuchencreme im Schoko-Blumentopf auf wundervolle Art und Weise. Die Lage des Restaurants ist auch perfekt: im Zentrum und trotzdem mit einem Park in unmittelbarer Nähe. Erraten? Es ist der Alte Botanische Garten!

We were there for lunch a few weeks ago with a larger group (16 people). The atmosphere outside is very nice. The orders were taken (I had beef fillet with fries) and the drinks came after a while. Then the food was served and everyone got their food, except for me the pomme was served as a side dish. When I asked about my beef tenderloin I was told they would be right there. Auis “immediately” it was 15 minutes and the fries were now cold. Then I had to complain again and it took a while until the new warm fries arrived. Given the prices, I expect better service.

We were having lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant is beautifully decorated, the service is super attentive and the food is great. The price of the main menu is slightly higher. But in my opinion that is justified. The portions are reasonable. We'll be back.

A hip restaurant, well attended, pleasant ambience... claims to have a more sophisticated cuisine? ....at least that's what the prices are. Positive: the starter, wine Negative: the whiskey sour was watery and came after the starter; I wanted to have the appetizer (which was intended to be lukewarm) kept warm while I waited for my aperitif. It was then delivered to another table... The main course eggplant masala was not very pleasant: masala eggplant with masala sauce and masala pakora onions tone on tone and everything was too salty. To wash down the bad taste, I tried a "regional" plum brandy...it was served far too cold...in an unsuccessful attempt to disguise the poor quality. Disappointing. Paid 130 euros for 2 people. Who is the place suitable for? For young hipsters with too much pocket money who want to photograph trendy Instagram dishes at overpriced prices.

They could do with a stronger internet. Not only as normal use for costumers but also for the payment. The place is beautiful and comfortable and the service is very kind. The food was excellent.

Restaurant 1821 is absolutely outstanding! The food is not only incredibly tasty, but also boldly and creatively put together – truly a culinary journey of discovery. The service was super attentive and friendly, you immediately feel at home. Particularly noteworthy: The whiskey sour was absolutely on point! All in all a fantastic experience – definitely worth 5 stars!

Food for a C grade. The appetizer was in the form of fried Burata. The idea itself seemed dubious, but aroused curiosity. The dish arrived in 3 minutes. The edges of the plate were hot, but the bottom was icy. This happens when a dish with a restaurant price in a good atmosphere is taken out of yesterday’s refrigerator and heated in the microwave. (This is possible at home, if the wife is not older than 22 years old and has experience with a refrigerator and microwave) This is not possible in a restaurant. The second courses took 45 minutes to arrive. Pork called Schweinerei cost as much as heating and lighting in Schweinerei, and tasted just good. The signature dish (according to legend, it was prepared by the Chef's mother) attracts the most criticism. The sausages and spaetzle tasted as good as Lidl and Aldi's budget options. And Linsen (lentils) were overcooked for about 10 minutes and turned into puree. The menu is large and varied, but the quality does not match the price. 100 euros for two allowed us to also try Kaiserschmarle and ice cream with berries and an edible cup... The chef is lucky that Tübingen is big and the street is busy.

Durchdesigntes Restaurant…. Trotzdem das Restaurant fast leer war dauerte es fast 20 Minuten bis wir die Menü Karten erhielten. Weitere 15 Minuten später wurde die Bestellung aufgenommen. Der Service ist freundlich, aber wirkt überfordert. Die Gerichte waren sehr schön angerichtet . es fehlte fast überall der Pepp, die Würze. Für das gebotene leider zu teuer.

Very nice atmosphere, in the middle of Tübingen. Unfortunately, both drinks we ordered were not poured to the full. It may sound petty, but it should be fine in this price range. When this was pointed out, a minimal amount of refills were given without an apology, rather grumpy. Wanted to eat pulp, unfortunately not available, otherwise food so far good, pork parcels very tender, puree good truffle taste, Viennese schnitzel OK, but breading not optimal, potato salad with mustard, unfortunately the instructions are not listed

Our evening at 1821 was one of the best positive surprises we've had in a long time. Everything really fits here. Ambience, service, food, drinks. Everything exceeded our expectations in some way. We found it particularly great that the service always dealt with our concerns directly, regardless of which of the many employees we spoke to. Clear recommendation, we are already looking forward to the next visit.

Very nice and stylish atmosphere. Certainly one of the best in Tübingen. The service was very friendly and answered questions competently. The food is comparatively expensive. We had a total of two starters, two main courses and one dessert. Not the standard things like schnitzel or burgers, but from the more unusual part of the menu. Everything tasted very good and was lovingly and creatively prepared. We were really excited and it's not that easy anymore. Highly recommended. The cocktails were good. But in my opinion very small for the high price. To have a drink I would go somewhere else. But absolutely recommended for eating!

The food selection is very extensive - everyone will find something here. Service was excellent. No sign of a staff shortage. Only the noise level is high when the restaurant is busy, as it was today at lunchtime.

After the 1821 was shown on the show "My Local, Your Local" and won with 40 out of 40 points, I wanted to try it out because we were in Tübingen anyway. It is really recommended that the food was very tasty, the portions were not too small, a good selection of wine and a very friendly, attentive service. Although the location has a lot of seats and was very busy shortly after 6 p.m., you didn't have to wait long. The ambience is great. It was a great evening and the journey from Heidelberg was worth it.

I don't know what made it easier for Mike to declare this a good thing! First off, the young waiter was OK and on his toes! Abeeeer the Wiener Schnitzel was not well breaded and it was bone dry, the potato salad was impossible to eat, the potatoes were still hard and swimming in an indefinable salad dressing as if they wanted to spice up bought bucket salad! The lentils with spaetzle and string sausages for 17.50 euros were unbelievable, the sausages were greasy, definitely the cheapest Metro or very bad butcher, the lentils were like that and the spaetzle was too soft and too dead in butter and the melted one was still light, unfortunately when it was already The previously ordered Kaiserschmarrn didn't get any better, it was neither risen nor fluffy, nor was it tossed or caramelized. My wife and I will definitely not be coming back and I will also write an email to Mike Süsser!

The ambience and the food are great. Unfortunately, the service sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. After 20 minutes of waiting to be served, you get yelled at for drawing attention to yourself. Tables that were occupied later were already in the process of ordering their food. That ruins your evening, unfortunately.

When they opened the service to the outside area, the number of tables increased, but I guess there was not the same increase in the number of waiters serving because after sitting at the table we had to wait a long time to order or request extra drinks with our meal. Apart from that, everything else; the atmosphere, the food and the presentation were very good.

Sat. 08/24/24 We were in 1821 for the first time because of the program “My Local, Your Local”. We tested all 4 participating restaurants in the area, the 1821 would have earned first place. The food (pulpo and veal schnitzel) was great, the service was impeccable. The service staff maintain regular eye contact with the guests. The beer garden is very nicely designed. However, we sat a little away from the wall of the neighboring house. The windows there were dirty, which didn't fit in with the rest. The guests next to us didn't like the seats either. According to our advice, these should be cleaned next time. We'll check it out this Wednesday, because we're going there again. So everything's great, keep it up. Wed. 08/28/24 So today we had the onion roast and the pork cheeks. And really big log, the neighboring windows were cleaned, swept and plants were put up. Exemplary. So the beer garden is nice. We'll come back more often

Wir fanden das essen ok mit Abstrichen. Die Olivensauce zum Tunfischtatar ist viel zu salzig und die Zitrone und der Tunfisch waren daneben nicht wahrnehmbar. Auf der Cocktailsauce der Krabben hat sich eine Haut gebildet, seit wie vielen Stunden stand diese Vorspeise schon im Kühlschrank? Der Burger war ok, aber weder besonders saftig noch irgendwie sonst außergewöhnlich, die Pommes waren einfache Tiefkühlware und die Portion Ketchup/ Mayo geizig. Ja,man hätte um Nachschub bitten können aber zum Service kommen wir später. Zum Wiener Schnitzel gab es einen Kartoffelsalat mit Liebstöckel (oder Maggi?), beides sind so starke Aromen, dass das u.E. erwähnenswert auf der Karte wäre, denn manche mögen das nicht. Auf dem gut gewürzten Schnitzel waren zusätzliche Salzflocken (Maldon Sea Salt?) wodurch es dann insgesamt zu salzig wurde. Und alles das hätte vielleicht mit dem Service besprochen werden können, nur der war selten da. Wir sind durstig aus dem Restaurant gegangen und haben erstmal im Auto was getrunken. Die Lokation ist sehr schön und sicher nicht billig, aber man will offenbar so viel Umsatz wie möglich mitnehmen. Manche finden das ok, wir werden nicht wiederkommen, es gibt andere Restaurants in Tübingen, wo man auch schön sitzt, besser ißt und v.a. sehr viel aufmerksamer betreut wird.

Great restaurant for a special evening. The prices are a little higher but fair. The service is motivated and nice. The food was really delicious. The picture shows an onion roast. The spaetzle was served separately in a small pot and you can scoop it in yourself if you don't want that many spaetzle. The spaetzle was homemade. The beef was ordered medium rare and came medium rare. The Back to Childhood and Pina Colada dessert was really tasty and recommended. The lemonades were also refreshing. Unfortunately, the homemade ice tea didn't suit our taste, but if you prefer something more bitter, it's a good choice. Great restaurant and would love to come back again.

Very nice restaurant. Top food. The selection is rather classic. But all dishes have their own special touch. E.g. Truffles in mashed potatoes. I am convinced that everyone will find something. No matter whether you are a meat lover or prefer something vegan. The service is really great. Our waitress was really on the ball and did a great job. The only drawback...if you want to call it that...depending on the weather or whatever criteria, it may be that only the outside area is open. Which was really great visually. But despite August, the evening was still fresh. It would have been nicer to have freedom of choice here. Otherwise, I'll definitely be back again (then just with a vest 😉). And you have to dig a little deeper into your wallet. But the quality should also be worth it to you.

We were there for lunch today. The restaurant is stylishly decorated and the food was great. Unfortunately, what severely diminished the overall impression is that it took forever. First the waiter forgot our entire order, including drinks. Stopping him every now and then to ask questions wasn't that easy either. Once we had done that, we had clearly completely forgotten. So after 25 minutes or so we only had drinks. That can happen. The food was very tasty, we had another coffee and then asked for the bill 3 times before we finally went to the bar to pay. So we were there for over 2 hours in total, which is extremely long for a restaurant with lunch. The Benjamin Blümchen episode that was played on a continuous loop in the toilet was also more strange than suitable for the ambience. So the food was good but at least today the service could unfortunately be extremely improved.

Enjoyed wonderful food in the cozy outdoor area. The quality and presentation of the food was perfect...the desserts in particular are hard to beat in terms of creativity. The service was very friendly, attentive and quick. We would love to come back.

Dear friends of fine dining. We were in 1821 and were impressed by the taste. The menu is a successful mix of regional specialties and creative, international dishes. We particularly recommend the Wiener Schnitzel, which is cooked to perfection. The cheese spaetzle royal with truffles on top also impresses with its sophistication and taste. Our conclusion: The 1821 is a jewel in Tübingen that impresses with its historical atmosphere, excellent food and first-class service. Try it and enjoy!

A really nice restaurant with very accommodating, nice staff! I felt welcome at all times. But unfortunately I don't agree with the price performance. I had a steak with fries for 38 euros. Unfortunately the steak was sliced, which I don't like for various reasons. Then the extremely tasty sauce was only available in very small quantities. The fries came with a shot glass full of ketchup and mayonnaise. Everything tasted great, but I couldn't get enough for a meal that cost 38 euros and I just went to the fridge when I got home. So I won't eat there again in the future.

Fantastic food is accompanied by wonderful service in a cozy, chic atmosphere. Whether it's dinner, brunch or lunch, 1821 has become an absolute favorite address for us in Tübingen. Even in the event of small mishaps, the staff reacts immediately in an absolutely professional and perfect manner. What's also special is that the map changes seasonally, although the favorites remain the same; a perfect mix of new and familiar - and the standard has remained the same since it opened and hasn't fallen yet. Simply tastes good!

We saw it on “My Local, Your Local” and went straight there today. So, you have to go there. Like on TV, exactly the same. We are absolutely thrilled.

There is an appealing menu for vegans and vegetarians. Regional, down-to-earth cuisine - nothing particularly creative, but excellent craftsmanship and taste. The eyes don't miss out either and can look forward to an appetizing plate of food. Portion sizes and prices very fair. We were only missing a larger selection of creative non-alcoholic drinks, but the offer of having individual favorite cocktails/drinks mixed made up for it. We spent a very nice evening in an appealing atmosphere and will definitely come back.

Handwerklich hervorragend zubereitete und geschmacklich ausgezeichnete vegetarische und vegane Gerichte, die appetitanregend angerichtet vom freundlichen Servicepersonal serviert werden. Vegetarische Gerichte sind nicht als solche gekennzeichnet, was zu (vermeidbaren) Rückfragen führt, die vom Servicepersonal allerdings nicht auf Anhieb beantwortet werden konnten. Vegane Optionen sind als solche gekennzeichnet. Lobenswert ist auch die Flexibilität der Küche, nicht-vegetarische/vegane Gerichte auf Wunsch anzupassen und/oder einzelne Komponenten separat erhalten zu können, was die Auswahlmöglichkeit weiter erhöht. Portionsgrößen sind moderat, tendieren jedoch eher zur kleineren Seite. Ein großer Hunger kann womöglich nicht mit einem einzelnen Gericht gestillt werden, aber ein Drei-Gänge-Menü mit passenden Getränken sorgt für eine zufriedenstellende Sättigung. Preise sind angesichts des Handwerks fair. Das Angebot an alkoholfreien Getränken könnte eine größere Vielfalt vertragen. Die Getränkekarte bietet nur zwei alkoholfreie Cocktails an, jedoch wird darauf hingewiesen, dass individuelle Wünsche gerne entgegengenommen werden, was positiv ist. Es gibt jedoch sicherlich Gäste, die gerne neue und innovative Kreationen ausprobieren möchten. Die beiden alkoholfreien Cocktails sind preislich angemessen, was ich von den alkoholischen Varianten nicht unbedingt sagen kann. Für jemanden wie mich, der keinen Alkohol konsumiert, stellt dies jedoch keinen negativen Punkt dar. Das Ambiente des Restaurants ist jung, modern und ansprechend gestaltet.
