A very pleasant atmosphere, great staff, and the way the dish was prepared and served was simply incredible. We'd love to come back.

Unfortunately, we didn't really enjoy the food. We had pike-perch with mashed potatoes and, as a second dish, Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle). The food was beautifully presented, but it was lukewarm. The pike-perch was dry. Sadly, everything lacked any seasoning. It tasted like something from a cafeteria. The price was far too high. Tiny portions and exorbitant prices. Despite the pleasant atmosphere and friendly service, we won't be coming back.

The dishes are not only beautifully presented but also taste amazing. You can tell that they work with great attention to detail and high-quality ingredients. Everything is perfectly coordinated – from the appetizer to the dessert. We'd also like to give special mention to the service: the staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and warm. You feel welcome and well cared for without it being intrusive. This is exactly what hospitality should be. For us, Restaurant 1821 is definitely one of the best places in Tübingen. If you value great food, a fantastic atmosphere, and super friendly service, this is the place for you. We will definitely come back – and are already looking forward to our next visit!

Unfortunately, the service and staff have been poor since the reopening. Some staff members are inexperienced, the wait times are long, and it takes too much initiative to place an order or make a comment. Therefore, only 3 stars. It's a shame, as it could be so much better.

The service was very attentive, friendly, and quick. We were seated in the back of the large room, in the middle, and could barely hear each other because the noise level was very high! The aperitifs, the Gin Basil Smash and Lillet Wild Berry, were delicious and easy to drink. The Beef Tartare Horns appetizer was WOW... absolutely fantastic! Roast beef with a crispy onion topping, served with spaetzle and gravy, just as you'd imagine! The One Day in Bangkok was spicy, and the chicken was incredibly crispy. A new culinary experience that was also visually stunning.

The food and service here are always excellent. Today's Valentine's Day menu was absolutely superb.

In short, simply too expensive. For every dish I like, there's a restaurant in Tübingen that does it better and for less. The food tastes good, the atmosphere is lovely, but the service is slow and inattentive. Five waiters walk right past you before anyone comes, as if they're wearing blinders. We've been there several times now, but today was my last.

I had two very different experiences at 1821, both of which were okay overall: 1. Lunch: We arrived at the restaurant after a friend's oral exam and were initially ignored and left standing around – no welcome, rather a cold atmosphere. An uncertain-looking waiter showed us to a table after a blonde woman in the background called out a table number. She didn't even say hello to us when we walked past her. Only when another server took over did everything change: very attentive, super friendly, and at the same time, the epitome of calm. She brought a vase for the flowers without being asked and salvaged the impression in record time. The food was good, prices a bit high. A real point of criticism: There is regularly no vegetarian lunch option, which caused us some frustration. 2. Graduation ball at the Altes Museum, but catered by 1821: For a buffet, the quality was solid. Unfortunately, the rather uninspiring appetizers (e.g., pasta salad) were opened at the same time as the main courses. Many people immediately opted for the more expensive options like salmon, which meant that at least four people at our table didn't get any salmon at all. When we asked if they could bring more salmon, we were simply told that they had already replenished it twice and now it was all gone – but as a guest, you expect to receive what you paid for. This caused us considerable frustration, as we had been looking forward to it. Dessert also disappeared quickly; later, they apparently improvised with an unplanned cheesecake. Overall, it was okay, but from a guest's perspective, not worth €65. In conclusion: The 1821 restaurant in Tübingen has shown how to present itself in a contemporary way. The restaurant itself looks great and isn't bad in itself, but it seems as if the focus is clearly more on the external image than on the on-site experience. With reservations, however, the 1821 can still be recommended.

We had dinner at 1821 tonight. We found the restaurant through its MeinLokalDeinLokal rating – and we can absolutely confirm its 50-point score. For starters, we had a delicious pancake soup, followed by a Tom Kha Gai soup with a perfectly cooked scallop. The lentils with Spätzle and the Wiener Schnitzel were perfect. The price was very fair for the quality. Nour's service was also excellent. We'd gladly make the 1.5-hour drive again and will definitely be back.

The onion roast beef was ordered medium, but it arrived completely overcooked and extremely tough – more like shoe leather. We sent it back immediately. The second attempt was slightly better, but still not convincing. I had specifically ordered a burger without cheese, as I have a casein intolerance. Unfortunately, the burger arrived with cheese anyway. In the car, when I looked more closely at the receipt, we noticed that my husband had been charged an extra €6.90 for a portion of Spätzle – even though these should normally be included with the onion roast beef. Overall, very disappointing. The location is beautiful, but the food and organization unfortunately don't live up to it. In retrospect, the Instagram advertising seems more like hype than substance.

Imaginative, original and very tasty food at reasonable prices

Unfortunately, a bitter disappointment. The Swabian dishes were far from good food: the soup was cold and completely tasteless. The Maultaschen (Swabian ravioli) had a dubious filling, and the potato salad was swimming in a strange onion sauce. Even the cappuccino arrived cold. On top of all that, the prices were completely exorbitant—the portions were nowhere near as large as the price. A shame, because the "1821" inn actually has potential.

We attended the New Year's Eve party with a four-course meal at 1821 in Tübingen and were absolutely thrilled. The food was a true culinary delight – each course was perfectly balanced, creative, and of the highest quality. The New Year's Eve celebration itself was also a complete success: a fantastic atmosphere, a great DJ, and an impressive fireworks display that made the turn of the year unforgettable. A thoroughly enjoyable evening in a special setting. We felt very comfortable and are already looking forward to next year! Don't expect anything special here. We were a group of four at 1821 Tübingen, and none of us were truly satisfied. For over €20, you get, for example, half a small eggplant with some garnish, or a relatively small hamburger with a tiny portion of fries for €21. We mentioned the small portions to the server, who told us they were intentional, as they wanted guests to order an appetizer and perhaps even dessert. We won't be coming back!

A kitchen that dares to take things seriously. Please, more of these concepts. I have to admit that starting out at 1821 wasn't easy because I received some criticism here and there. It was too expensive here, too experimental there. There was always something. Definitely not something that made me think I had to go there. It wasn't until a friend "dragged" me there and we were greeted warmly, even without a reservation, that a solution was found, despite the restaurant being packed. Rarely have I eaten classic Swabian cuisine interpreted this way. You immediately noticed that someone here wanted to combine tradition with modernity, and they succeeded. From then on, it was clear to me that this would be one of my favorite restaurants. I'm not even talking about the interior design. It's a place where you feel at home, and despite the high noise level, it still exudes a pleasant atmosphere. The Kabel1 segment of "My Local, Your Local," where the guys also gave behind-the-scenes insights (a greenhouse in the kitchen, a dream) and, of course, won among their colleagues, was, in my opinion, the absolute game changer. From then on, a reservation is required. I like going there and am happy to see that the courage to try something new is also rewarded. In my opinion, this restaurant simply fits Tübingen.

While the food was delicious and the service extremely friendly, I find it incomprehensible that an establishment of this size doesn't accept card payments – or rather, only accepts them for amounts over €15. In my opinion, there are neither plausible technical nor operational reasons for this. We were there with a large group, consumed a lot, and still couldn't pay by card. I understand that card payments involve a certain amount of effort, but a restaurant of this size and price range should be able to offer this basic service without restrictions. Otherwise, in my opinion, it has missed the boat on modern guest service.

We ordered Wiener Schnitzel and Herrgottsbscheisser for food, and Holunder-Lime and Waldbeere lemonades for drinks. The lemonades tasted like sparkling water with a few pieces of fruit, which I found mediocre. The food was slightly above average but didn’t justify the price. Additionally, the service was very slow. Overall, I can’t say I left with a positive experience.

I had asked in advance whether my dishes could be prepared gluten-free (due to my celiac disease), which was no problem at all. Even ingredients were swapped, and every server knew about it. The quality was also outstanding, whether it was the product, the food, or the atmosphere – everything was perfect down to the smallest detail. I was particularly impressed by the attention to detail: Everything seemed well thought out and implemented with a lot of heart. I can definitely recommend a visit to 1821!

Unfortunately, for €21, I expected more than a tablespoon-sized blob of mashed potatoes and two pieces of meat not even 4 cm long. We naturally asked the waitress if something was wrong with the portions, but unfortunately, there was no response; the service was rather unfriendly. It's just not nice when you pay a total of €35 and then have to go get something to eat. A quick note: about 10 other guests had the same experience. A tip for the kitchen: it's still worth it and economical if the portion is a bit larger and a normal person can still be roughly full.

For starters, we had the fresh Salad de la Casa, followed by a fantastic roast beef with onions and Watergrass Hill beef, and the 1821 Smashed Burger with dry-aged beef and crispy fries. The meat – premium quality, tender, and flavorful – a real treat for the palate. Positive highlights: The special ambiance, the extremely friendly service, and the excellent quality of the food and drinks. Small deductions that make you smile: the flashing "Emergency Exit" sign was more like a disco ball than a guide – we almost ate in time to it 😅. And yes, the wait for the food was a bit longer, but with this taste, it was immediately forgiven. Conclusion: We'll definitely be back!
