The best Italian in Göppingen!
I was at Gran Duca last night and I'm still loving it! There are many Italian restaurants, but this restaurant really tops them all. You feel comfortable here from the first second. The evening started fantastically with a warm welcome.
The food was an absolute dream. I had the truffle pasta, and I'll be honest, I haven't had something that delicious in a long time. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the truffles were very aromatic. My companion had a Pizza Reale and it was also amazing: thin base, fresh ingredients - just the way you want a pizza.
But what made the evening even more special was the service. So friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The waiters always had a smile on their faces, were extremely knowledgeable about the menu and had the best recommendations.
At the end there was of course a homemade tiramisu with espresso. If you are looking for an Italian restaurant in Göppingen, you should definitely go here. I'm really looking forward to the next time!
A little tip: A reservation is highly recommended here, as the restaurant is very busy - and rightly so!
We were in paradise on February 20, 2025 and very satisfied. Ms. Natalia served us very courteously and with recommendations. We'll be back. The mixed roast was really tasty.
Unfortunately unfortunately unfortunately not so good anymore...
Since the change of ownership, the snack bar has been downsized. Unfortunately, the gyros from then to now are worlds apart.
The good thing first, the meat still seems to be the same, it's neither tough nor are there any gristly parts in it.
The new owners personally also deserve a positive mention. Regardless of what they offer there in terms of cuisine, they are very friendly and accommodating. You feel welcome. The prices are still the same and the portions themselves are very fair.
BUT:
- The pita bread is another one that doesn't taste good, it's tough and doughy (maybe not even all the way through), almost reminiscent of the sole of a shoe.
- the meat in the gyros box was literally swimming in fat.
- Some of the meat was very light, but others were obviously burnt (it tasted that way too). It was also no longer as thickly cut as it used to be, but rather thinner. Almost reminded me of kebab. (And I go here specifically to NOT eat kebab, that was just a bit of a change from the run-of-the-mill kebab that you can find on every corner)
- the tzatziki now tastes different, unfortunately like almost nothing at all. It even tasted sweet, unfortunately no longer good in that context, no trace of garlic. Unfortunately -10 points in terms of taste. I just missed the refreshing feeling of good tzatziki
- With halloumi there are no longer several smaller strips on the pita, but one big block, it's just not well distributed, one moment nothing, the next moment you just have cheese in your mouth. And it was therefore only lukewarm at its core.
- unfortunately the end product tastes bland, due to the lack of seasoning on the food or in the tzatziki.
I can say:
It's a shame that things have turned out this way and that the old suppliers haven't been taken over, but rather changes have been made in so many places. If you took over the snack bar and the really No.1 name, you should have also taken over the RECIPE for success (literally at that point). But if you change everything that made the store the absolute No. 1 in GP, that's a big risk, which backfires in terms of taste. In our opinion, the change is absolutely negative and we will probably have to look for a new regular snack bar :(
We went there for the first time today on a whim. We had a super delicious schnitzel with fries and salad. The portions are very generous...there's definitely enough to fill everyone up, and the price is very fair. The quality of the meat, fries, and salad is also really good.
Finally, I have to particularly emphasize the friendly, attentive, and prompt service.
We'll definitely be back...keep up the good work!
To comply with the guidelines, here is my personal experience in a factual form:
I ordered a pizza one Sunday evening. Unfortunately, it was very greasy, the dough had an unusual consistency, and I wasn't impressed with the taste. During the night, I suddenly began to struggle with severe vomiting, which continued throughout the rest of the night and the following day. The pizza was the only thing I ate that day—although I can't say for sure, the timing seems striking to me.
We had a great time on Easter Sunday.
The roulades, cheese spaetzle, and dessert were excellent! Very friendly service :-) Keep it up!
A small play area for the little ones would be nice, perfect!
So there really isn't a better kebab anywhere in the area. I always come to Göppingen with my heart to eat here. The owner is a great host. It's a shame that you can only give it 5 stars!
Great food, nice ambience and above all very nice service. Guess father and son. Very hardworking, super nice, we really enjoyed the evening and felt very comfortable.
We ate there 3 times.
We had the problem several times that the side dishes were served cold.
There is a lack of spices...
Eg unsalted fries and the meat was tough.
We also had to give food back because the minced meat was still raw in the middle.
The side salad is delicious and the schnitzels are also good.
The service is friendly.
