We love going to this cozy place and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and the service is very attentive but not intrusive. Special requests are always accommodated courteously.

Wonderful and delicious cuisine, the price is very reasonable

A colleague had pre-ordered a buffet dinner for 16 people for our group. Due to illness and other circumstances, there were only 14 of us. The owner, through the server, demanded that we pay for 16 people. I intervened forcefully and found a grumpy owner in the kitchen with her husband. They explained that they had prepared the food, therefore we had to pay. I then pointed out that appetizers and dessert were also available à la carte and that with three main courses, they were bound to have more than enough food on hand anyway. While the husband said it was fine with him, the owner remained grumpy. In conclusion: the location is cozy, and the food was good to very good for the most part. Unfortunately, I got the impression that the service staff weren't performing at their best in this tense environment. A shame.

A rustic and very traditional inn. Freshly prepared food and delicious drinks. Friendly service. Parking is scarce everywhere in the upper town.

We had lunch here. The location is great, and the restaurant in the historic half-timbered house is very cozy. There's also a small outdoor area. The service was very friendly and prompt. The menu is concise but offers something for everyone. The potato and sweet potato fries were crispy and flavorful, the schnitzel was juicy with a delicious coating, and the salads were fresh. We all enjoyed our meal and will stop here again on our next visit to Marburg.

We had a delicious meal at the restaurant with friendly service—they even provided a charging cable for my almost-dead phone. The salad was excellent with the very good schnitzel. Additional requests were fulfilled. Dinner in Marburg? At the Sonne!!!

I can't say anything about the rooms, but the food in the restaurant was super delicious, we were there twice for lunch, simply brilliant, service friendly, toilet clean, would gladly go back

I really enjoyed the food; the schnitzel was delicious, but Sasha and Ali, in particular, served us very well and friendly. They work too much. I'd like to thank them.

Unfortunately, very disappointing! The food was okay, but the price/performance ratio wasn't up to scratch. The schnitzel we ordered was quite tough, and the salad was poorly prepared with very little dressing. We had reserved a table for 5:30 p.m. The waitress assigned us a small table outside, but told us we had to be ready by 7:45 p.m.! That's the lowest of the low in my opinion! We ate here for the second time yesterday. Unfortunately, it was very disappointing again! The soup I ordered was spicy, but completely full of fat. My husband had severe stomach problems after eating the side salad. ☹️We won't be coming back here.

Even in the sun, your heart melts. The location is so outstanding that we expected mediocre quality. Even in a prime location in Cologne, that would be the case. Not at "Zur Sonne." The quality and service are even better than the location... Thanks to Rainer!!! He creates space where there is none, and we received excellent service and truly delicious food and drinks. Nice atmosphere, sitting outside on the market square. Best to make a reservation or arrive early. Delicious dishes, including vegetarian options. Classic German on the one hand, but also with Asian influences, truly delicious. Prices are upscale.

We celebrated my mother's birthday today. The entire meal was fantastic! The vegan burger was also delicious. The house fries were amazing! Every dish was very flavorful and beautifully garnished. The service was excellent, and the waiter's open manner was typical of Hesse :) Keep it up...!

We recently went out in the sun and ate outside. The location is very good, the restaurant's interior is quaint but very well-kept. There's something for everyone on the menu. Both the food and dessert were excellent! Kudos to the kitchen! The only criticism, however, was the service. The waitress was rather annoyed and abrupt when taking our order, and the same was true when ordering drinks and dessert. Everyone can have a bad day, but no matter what, the guest shouldn't feel it.

We spent one day in Marburg and had a delicious dinner here. Chanterelles with spinach dumplings, schnitzel, and tenderloin with fried potatoes. The food was truly delicious! You sit outside on a hillside right in the beautiful old town. But the interior is also a very quaint, cozy restaurant! We can't comment on the hotel, as we didn't stay there. Unfortunately, the waiter doesn't do the good food justice. His flippant and bored manner (he doesn't look at you, doesn't thank you when you tip) is a shame for the restaurant.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was fantastic, and we received a warm welcome from the very friendly staff. The main courses were not only delicious but also beautifully presented. One minor criticism: the starter soups unfortunately contained a bit too much MSG. Overall, though, it was a successful visit—we'd be happy to return!

Unfortunately, our visit was disappointing overall. The staff seemed unprofessional and lacking in service. At the end, we were assured that the owner would personally come by to pay – unfortunately, this never happened. This behavior doesn't leave a good impression on us.

Slechte ervaring bij dit restaurant op het terras. Koffie kun je alleen bestellen als je wat te eten hebt besteld. Alcoholische dranken worden je opgedrongen. Vervelende bediening, irritant mannetje. Tafels staan op gereserveerd terwijl dat niet zo is. Ze hebben geen lunchkaart. Enige pluspunt was de Aperol Spritz.

It is highly recommended. The food was excellent and the staff was friendly too. The emphasis here is on quality and not necessarily on quantity. It's a little cheaper, but totally okay for the service and food.

Great restaurant right on the market square in Marburg. The atmosphere and furnishings are very quaint and cozy, but not old-fashioned - in keeping with the building itself. There is a tiled wood-burning stove in the dining room on the ground floor. The restaurant consists of at least 2 floors. The food is home-style dishes that are beautifully crafted. Grandpa Egon's schnitzel is great and the best I've ever eaten. The prices are a bit high, but still appropriate for the quality. Schnitzel (Viennese style) with side dishes is available for €21.50. I will definitely come back.

Any hotel would have done it for this one night. But this was a recommendation and the dull hotel stay became an unforgettable memory. A very old, narrow half-timbered house in the middle of Marburg city center is like traveling back in time with the comforts of today. Beautiful and particularly different. I have rarely slept so well and peacefully in a hotel. Thanks!

The restaurant is recommended, even though we apparently caught it on a bad day. The liver and fish were excellent. However, we waited over an hour for the main course (7:05 PM appetizer - 8:15 PM main course). The service was excellent, my fish was completely overcooked - the food was reordered without complaint (after 20 minutes).

I can't rate the rooms as I didn't use them. The food was delicious 😋 and the service was OK. I would definitely go back.

The service was polite, the food was okay. Looking into the open kitchen, we had the pleasure of seeing a chef who had dropped some ingredients on the floor pick them up and quickly put them in the pan. Luckily we already had our food on the table. We were happy to treat the other guests to this.

This place has so many different dishes that it's hard to choose. The home-made fries are unbeatable, as are the various burger variants that the restaurant has to offer within a year.

For the Christmas party we were again with a larger group in the festively decorated room and had a wonderful evening: The food was perfect, there were no long waiting times and the service from Rainer Linker and Co. was, as always, great, with a lot of good humor and personal commitment - thank you very much!

Wir haben mit Freunden und Familie den 80. Geburtstag meiner Mutter gefeiert. Alle waren sowohl mit der gemütlichen Atmosphäre, dem guten Service als auch mit dem wunderbaren Menü sehr zufrieden. Toll war auch, dass wir mit einer großen Gruppe eine große Auswahl an Hauptgerichten hatten. Auch bei Vorspeise hatten wir eine und beim Dessert zwei Alternativen. Die vorherigen Überlegungen, Absprachen und Wünsche waren im freundlichen Austausch alle aufgenommen und umgesetzt worden. Rundum hat alles gepasst. Von Allen an Alle ein herzliches Danke für die sehr gute Bewirtung!

We organized a private crime dinner as a team event in a separate guest room and were served a wonderful menu. At the event it was important that the respective courses were served in time with the game, which worked extremely well. The food and service were great. We would love to come back, even just to eat.

The food is good, but expensive by Marburg standards and unfortunately I experienced very long waiting times (at least 50 minutes) every time I was here.

Unfortunately I can't say anything about the food, we left the restaurant after the waiter was incredibly rude and annoyed when asked about a drink menu. They probably don't need any guests.

We were at the Gasthaus zur Sonne on Saturday evening and had a wonderful experience. The main course was excellent and the dessert was a perfect ending - everything fresh and wonderfully prepared. We would particularly like to highlight the young waiter. He was very friendly, attentive and gave us great recommendations. He answered each of our questions with in-depth specialist knowledge, which impressed us very much. His advice on the main course and dessert was perfect, and he looked after us well throughout the evening. With his warm and professional manner he made our evening even more pleasant. He was extremely attentive, friendly and made sure we felt well looked after throughout our visit. The food was also very good – fresh, tasty and served in generous portions. Traditionsgaststätte ins zentraler Lage mit schönem Blick auf das historische Rathaus, wenn man draußen sitzt. Es gibt eine wechselnde Mittagskarte und eine Abendkarte, beide überschaubar, mit wenigen Desserts. Dafür war die Qualität ok, die Preise fair und der Service hat geklappt.

A really quaint, romantic hotel with cosy, tastefully furnished rooms. A room with a view of the medieval Rathausplatz square is definitely worth it. Every hour on the hour, you can hear the singing of a rooster who must be doing something for his vocal chords. In the upper town, you immediately feel transported back to the Middle Ages, with all the comforts of modern times.

Very cozy, rustic restaurant in the middle of the old town of Marburg. Very tasty dishes. However, the portions are relatively manageable and quite expensive. But you can sit beautifully with a view of the market square and the historic town hall.

The Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne is a real gem for everyone who loves rustic German hospitality and excellent cuisine. The atmosphere is really rustic German - you almost expect a Bavarian in lederhosen to come around the corner and do a hearty yodel. The service is simply top! The staff is so friendly and attentive that you feel like you are staying with old friends. Reservations are definitely recommended as this place is so popular that the tables go faster than the pretzels at Oktoberfest. The rooms are beautiful and invite you to linger. The historical flair of the inn makes the stay particularly charming - it feels like you are taking a short journey back in time. Let's get to the food: The traditional German cuisine here is simply a poem! The fresh beef fillet tartare was amazing – so good that I wondered if I should secretly sneak into the kitchen and get a second helping. The Allgäu onion roast was one of the best I've ever eaten - so tender that you could almost eat it with a spoon. And my companion’s schnitzel, “Grandpa Egon’s Schnitzel”, was also absolutely delicious – no wonder Grandpa Egon is so famous! Overall, the Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne in Marburg is a wonderful place with historical flair, creative dishes and an atmosphere that is so cozy that you won't want to leave. Five stars are the minimum here!

It was a wonderful evening, the food was delicious, but Rainer was the real deal! The best service ever, in a good mood, always with a quick joke, super organized and just super friendly. We will be back.

Restaurant review: delicious food, very interesting menu. Would go back for the food. They brought an affogato without coffee and made a couple of other mistakes. The interior is traditional and cozy, quite packed, and the terrace is nice, on the main square.

Durante un soggiorno di lavoro sono stata portata a cena, insieme ai miei colleghi, in questo ristornate di Marburg. Il nostro ospite aveva scelto per noi un menù apposito : una selezione di antipasti misti, un piatto principale a scelta e il dolce. Gli antipasti sono arrivati in 3 piatti "impilati" per avere più spazio sul tavolo e ognuno ha potuto servirsi gustando: tartare di carne con cialde di parmigiano, tempura di pesce, una sorta di gazpacho piccantino e dolce allo stesso tempo ed altri ancora. Come piatto principale potevamo scegliere tra filetto di manzo in salsa, tris di knodel e filetto di luccio perca fritto nel burro al limone. Abbiamo provato tutto, giusto per non perderci neanche un sapore e onestamente non saprei dire quale fosse il migliore. Unica pecca il dolce, molti di noi hanno preso la cheesecake al cioccolato, per i miei gusti il rapporto base biscottata e formaggio era troppo poco... ma è solo un gusto personale. Birra fantastica e schnapps finale a concludere in bellezza. Cosa centra il gallo allora?... Il ristorante dà proprio sulla marketplatz centrale di Marburg dove, in cima al Municipio c'è un orologio con un galletto che ad ogni ora, come un cucù dovrebbe sbattere le ali. Non aspettatevi un'apertura da albatross, piuttosto gustatevi la cena!

This restaurant offers excellent food at reasonable prices. My lamb fillet was wonderful and came with an extremely tasty sauce, of which luckily there was more than plenty. The building is old and you can really feel the history. That's why it's also quite dark, of course, but that's just part of it. All in all, a restaurant visit that we will remember with pleasure for a long time to come.

Nicely located restaurant in the upper town. This time we were just there to drink wine. But we also had a good meal there. The service was very nice and entertaining. My family has been coming here for 60 years and we will continue this tradition.

In the middle of the city. Local for over 400 years and therefore a real original. Nice service, good service. Great selection of mainly regional food. Top quality at fair prices. And so delicious. The vegetables are al dente and taste a real hit. In any case, it makes sense to reserve in advance.

Hello dear people, Oh, where should I start? It's been a long time since I returned to the traditional sun. It is always a pleasure to enter the house. Now even in a completely new flair. A half-timbered house meets modern. Lovingly furnished and beautifully lit. Harmonize old and new. You can tell that thought has been given here to preserve the historical and sensibly incorporate the new. There were two of us on a Tuesday evening. Reservation no problem. Was warmly welcomed by the service staff and immediately escorted to the table. We waited less than 5-10 minutes and our drinks were already in front of us. We didn't wait long for our food either; Grandpa Egon's schnitzel was a classic and was lovingly prepared. The fried potatoes with bacon, red onions, spring onions and a nice touch of butter was very convincing. My companion had the family-style beef tartare, it was very nicely presented and the little sun of parmesan was an eye-catcher, as well as the little rolls. Really tasty! I can only say we liked it and will definitely come back again, that much is clear, Thank you for the great hospitality and see you soon!

We wanted to eat and drink something at Edlunds today and sat down at one of the tables in front of the restaurant. Then a waitress from the sun came to the table and snapped at us that the table didn't belong to Edlunds, even though it was on their street side. Friendly and professional is different.

Here the name says it all and you sit facing “Towards the Sun”. Grandpa Egon's schnitzel and the seasonal dishes are highly recommended. The service is also very friendly and accommodating. Deserved five stars.

This review is only about the food & restaurant. Which was amazing! I can't believe other Americans always hate on German cuisine. We had (3) dishes and loved them all. Schnitzel was delicious, the Käsespeztle and other cheesy noodles we had were out of this world. We definitely hope to come back to Marburg and try this place again!! Life changing meal lol. Zur Sonne, I see the light!

The food was very tasty, especially the schnitzel. Fresh and crispy, as it should be. We came with a group without a reservation and were quickly seated. Sitting outside in the romantic market square location when the weather is nice is simply lovely. Reservations are probably recommended. The service was friendly and quick, the food came very quickly. The price-performance ratio is also right.

Parking spaces are few and far between. However, you feel like you are in Lord of the Rings. It is a beautiful building and has its charm! The food is excellent! Just like the service. The rooms are an experience. All in all, a MUST for anyone looking for good cuisine and experiences.

Old inn in a beautifully restored half-timbered house. The Brothers Grimm are said to have stayed here. It's worth taking a look here.

I haven't had such a good schnitzel in a long time, TOP! The Bernaise sauce is homemade, a dream.

The quality of the food is good, but we waited a long time for dinner. The restaurant operators thought it was okay that you had to wait 1.5 hours between the starter and the main course. I don't think that's okay.

We were welcomed very nicely. Yannik Meinhard served us very well. Everything was to our satisfaction. Quaint hotel with a very good atmosphere. The food in the evening was amazing. We were served very well by Rainer (and no one else) 😜. So if 6 stars were available we would give 6 stars. Keep it up, we'll be back......👍
