We had the pleasure of eating at Gasthaus Zur Sonne recently and were impressed by the excellent quality of the service. In particular, the young waiter who served us did an outstanding job. He was extremely attentive, friendly and made sure we felt well looked after throughout our visit. The food was also very good – fresh, tasty and served in generous portions. Overall, a thoroughly successful evening, thanks to the great service and delicious food. We'd love to come back!

Traditionsgaststätte ins zentraler Lage mit schönem Blick auf das historische Rathaus, wenn man draußen sitzt. Es gibt eine wechselnde Mittagskarte und eine Abendkarte, beide überschaubar, mit wenigen Desserts. Dafür war die Qualität ok, die Preise fair und der Service hat geklappt.

A really quaint, romantic hotel with cosy, tastefully furnished rooms. A room with a view of the medieval Rathausplatz square is definitely worth it. Every hour on the hour, you can hear the singing of a rooster who must be doing something for his vocal chords. In the upper town, you immediately feel transported back to the Middle Ages, with all the comforts of modern times.

Very cozy, rustic restaurant in the middle of the old town of Marburg. Very tasty dishes. However, the portions are relatively manageable and quite expensive. But you can sit beautifully with a view of the market square and the historic town hall.

The Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne is a real gem for everyone who loves rustic German hospitality and excellent cuisine. The atmosphere is really rustic German - you almost expect a Bavarian in lederhosen to come around the corner and do a hearty yodel. The service is simply top! The staff is so friendly and attentive that you feel like you are staying with old friends. Reservations are definitely recommended as this place is so popular that the tables go faster than the pretzels at Oktoberfest. The rooms are beautiful and invite you to linger. The historical flair of the inn makes the stay particularly charming - it feels like you are taking a short journey back in time. Let's get to the food: The traditional German cuisine here is simply a poem! The fresh beef fillet tartare was amazing – so good that I wondered if I should secretly sneak into the kitchen and get a second helping. The Allgäu onion roast was one of the best I've ever eaten - so tender that you could almost eat it with a spoon. And my companion’s schnitzel, “Grandpa Egon’s Schnitzel”, was also absolutely delicious – no wonder Grandpa Egon is so famous! Overall, the Gasthaus Hotel zur Sonne in Marburg is a wonderful place with historical flair, creative dishes and an atmosphere that is so cozy that you won't want to leave. Five stars are the minimum here!

It was a wonderful evening, the food was delicious, but Rainer was the real deal! The best service ever, in a good mood, always with a quick joke, super organized and just super friendly. We will be back.

Restaurant review: delicious food, very interesting menu. Would go back for the food. They brought an affogato without coffee and made a couple of other mistakes. The interior is traditional and cozy, quite packed, and the terrace is nice, on the main square.

Durante un soggiorno di lavoro sono stata portata a cena, insieme ai miei colleghi, in questo ristornate di Marburg. Il nostro ospite aveva scelto per noi un menù apposito : una selezione di antipasti misti, un piatto principale a scelta e il dolce. Gli antipasti sono arrivati in 3 piatti "impilati" per avere più spazio sul tavolo e ognuno ha potuto servirsi gustando: tartare di carne con cialde di parmigiano, tempura di pesce, una sorta di gazpacho piccantino e dolce allo stesso tempo ed altri ancora. Come piatto principale potevamo scegliere tra filetto di manzo in salsa, tris di knodel e filetto di luccio perca fritto nel burro al limone. Abbiamo provato tutto, giusto per non perderci neanche un sapore e onestamente non saprei dire quale fosse il migliore. Unica pecca il dolce, molti di noi hanno preso la cheesecake al cioccolato, per i miei gusti il rapporto base biscottata e formaggio era troppo poco... ma è solo un gusto personale. Birra fantastica e schnapps finale a concludere in bellezza. Cosa centra il gallo allora?... Il ristorante dà proprio sulla marketplatz centrale di Marburg dove, in cima al Municipio c'è un orologio con un galletto che ad ogni ora, come un cucù dovrebbe sbattere le ali. Non aspettatevi un'apertura da albatross, piuttosto gustatevi la cena!

This restaurant offers excellent food at reasonable prices. My lamb fillet was wonderful and came with an extremely tasty sauce, of which luckily there was more than plenty. The building is old and you can really feel the history. That's why it's also quite dark, of course, but that's just part of it. All in all, a restaurant visit that we will remember with pleasure for a long time to come.

Nicely located restaurant in the upper town. This time we were just there to drink wine. But we also had a good meal there. The service was very nice and entertaining. My family has been coming here for 60 years and we will continue this tradition.

We were in this beautiful place a week ago. Rainer (with ai) served us very warmly and humorously. The food was excellent. It was a wonderful afternoon and we are already looking forward to our next visit. (Hanni)

In the middle of the city. Local for over 400 years and therefore a real original. Nice service, good service. Great selection of mainly regional food. Top quality at fair prices. And so delicious. The vegetables are al dente and taste a real hit. In any case, it makes sense to reserve in advance.

Hello dear people, Oh, where should I start? It's been a long time since I returned to the traditional sun. It is always a pleasure to enter the house. Now even in a completely new flair. A half-timbered house meets modern. Lovingly furnished and beautifully lit. Harmonize old and new. You can tell that thought has been given here to preserve the historical and sensibly incorporate the new. There were two of us on a Tuesday evening. Reservation no problem. Was warmly welcomed by the service staff and immediately escorted to the table. We waited less than 5-10 minutes and our drinks were already in front of us. We didn't wait long for our food either; Grandpa Egon's schnitzel was a classic and was lovingly prepared. The fried potatoes with bacon, red onions, spring onions and a nice touch of butter was very convincing. My companion had the family-style beef tartare, it was very nicely presented and the little sun of parmesan was an eye-catcher, as well as the little rolls. Really tasty! I can only say we liked it and will definitely come back again, that much is clear, Thank you for the great hospitality and see you soon!

We wanted to eat and drink something at Edlunds today and sat down at one of the tables in front of the restaurant. Then a waitress from the sun came to the table and snapped at us that the table didn't belong to Edlunds, even though it was on their street side. Friendly and professional is different.

Here the name says it all and you sit facing “Towards the Sun”. Grandpa Egon's schnitzel and the seasonal dishes are highly recommended. The service is also very friendly and accommodating. Deserved five stars.

This review is only about the food & restaurant. Which was amazing! I can't believe other Americans always hate on German cuisine. We had (3) dishes and loved them all. Schnitzel was delicious, the Käsespeztle and other cheesy noodles we had were out of this world. We definitely hope to come back to Marburg and try this place again!! Life changing meal lol. Zur Sonne, I see the light!

The food was very tasty, especially the schnitzel. Fresh and crispy, as it should be. We came with a group without a reservation and were quickly seated. Sitting outside in the romantic market square location when the weather is nice is simply lovely. Reservations are probably recommended. The service was friendly and quick, the food came very quickly. The price-performance ratio is also right.

Parking spaces are few and far between. However, you feel like you are in Lord of the Rings. It is a beautiful building and has its charm! The food is excellent! Just like the service. The rooms are an experience. All in all, a MUST for anyone looking for good cuisine and experiences.

Old inn in a beautifully restored half-timbered house. The Brothers Grimm are said to have stayed here. It's worth taking a look here.

I haven't had such a good schnitzel in a long time, TOP! The Bernaise sauce is homemade, a dream.

The quality of the food is good, but we waited a long time for dinner. The restaurant operators thought it was okay that you had to wait 1.5 hours between the starter and the main course. I don't think that's okay.

We were welcomed very nicely. Yannik Meinhard served us very well. Everything was to our satisfaction. Quaint hotel with a very good atmosphere. The food in the evening was amazing. We were served very well by Rainer (and no one else) 😜. So if 6 stars were available we would give 6 stars. Keep it up, we'll be back......👍

We didn't have a reservation and therefore had to wait a few minutes (Saturday evening), but it was really worth it: - The innkeeper was very nice - The food was really fantastic, especially the salad and the fried potatoes - Furnishings and ambience are rustic + cozy Thank you for this lovely evening! If we are in Marburg again, we will definitely come back.

Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed. At first we were here just to have something to eat in the evening. The cellar lady was very unfriendly and first said that it was full and when we asked the second time she gave us a place for two. She then took our order as normal, which was okay so far. In my opinion, food was too expensive. Schnitzel for 17€ and burger for 20€ is not really reasonable. Finally, I wanted to pay and the waitress really wanted me to type in the tip on her digital device. Since I wasn't satisfied, I decided not to tip, which she wasn't entirely happy about and gave me the right amount. At the end she couldn't even say "have a nice evening". In summary, very tasty food and a beautiful location, which was unfortunately overshadowed by the friendliness of the service and the prices.

Beautiful, old half-timbered house with narrow stairs and winding rooms. The rooms are furnished like beautiful farmhouse parlors, clean and functional.

Location very good near market square. High quality food and very fair prices. We had several vegetarian and meat dishes as well as dessert. Staff could be a bit friendlier and more dynamic. Benches are quite hard if you sit all evening, but are part of the rustic and historical furnishings.

We were there for dinner with a group. The waitresses were friendly, the boss himself also served. The food was very tasty, we had three excellent courses. The atmosphere is partly rustic and therefore charming. The location is of course in a great location on Rathausplatz, where everything happens...

Kleine Karte, hochpreisig, Beilagen musste man extra dazu bestellen, Gerichte durchschnittlich, Service okay, man zahlt den Namen und die Lage in der Oberstadt mit.

Ottima cucina topica, atmosfera tradizionale e accogliente, soprattutto nelle sale al primo piano. Divino il ragù di cervo accompagnato dagli spatzle. Buona l'anatra fritta, non morbidissima ma con contorni deliziosi e salsa all'arancia. Sulla birra margini di miglioramento. Conto onesto. 28 euro a persona per una cena gustosissima, non turistica e super abbondante.

Die Sonne ist super am Marktplatz gelegen und da ich schon mehrmals dort war, auch mit vielen schönen Erinnerungen behaftet. Auch diesmal haben wir gut gegessen und auch die Einzelzimmer waren Ok. Da dort kein Frühstück angeboten wird, wäre es passend zu erwähnen, dass die umliegenden Restaurants zwar Sonntags Brunch anbieten, man aber auf jeden Fall reservieren muss, denn Sonntags in Marburg ist sonst alles ausgebucht.

Absolut toller Laden, das Essen ist wirklich super und die Location sehr heimisch und traditionell.

Wir waren auf Empfehlung im Restaurant. Meine Mutter bestellte die 1/2 Ente, ich bestellte das Risotto. Als das Risotto kam war dies hart und nicht durch. Ich teilte dies dem Kellner mit, worauf dieser das Essen ohne zu zögern mitnahm. Nach 2 Minuten kam dieser mit dem selben Teller wieder hoch, stelle diesen vor mich und teilte mit: „der Koch sagte das ist hier so bei uns. Entweder Sie essen dies oder bestellen neu“. Wir waren sehr verdutzt und fanden dies unverschämt. Daraufhin sagte ich, dass ich das nicht essen werde und den Burger nehme. Die 1/2 Ente meiner Mutter hatte scheinbar bereits sehr viele Flugstunden und man musste dementsprechend sehr und zu lange drauf kauen. Wir werden NICHT wiederkommen.

Wir haben hier sehr lecker gegessen, der Zander auf Risotto war vom Feinsten! Grüße an die Küche und vielen Dank auch für den tollen Service, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt.

Visited the restaurant for lunch. It was wonderful. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming. The food was AMAZING! Fresh and homemade. We were a big group and ordered multiple different dishes. Every single one was delicious. They also have an entire section on the menu with vegan and vegatarian options. The location is also perfect in the Altstadt looking over the town square, what more can one want. Definitely worth a visit!

Ich hatte hier einen wunderschönen Aufenthalt, das Fachwerkhaus, die Zimmerchen, die Ordnung, Sauberkeit u. Hygiene und der Service spricht für sich. Ganz tolles, nettes, hilfsbereites Team. Hatte meinen Ladekabel in Zimmer vergessen, sie haben sich drum gekümmert und den Kabel mir nachgesendet. Nochmals besonderen Dank dafür 💓

Herrlich geschmaust :) 1. Petersilienrisotto mit frischem Marktgemüse, karamellisierter Ziegenkäse 2. Cordon Bleu in Butter gebraten, m. Bratkartoffeln und Salat Frisch, knackig - einfach köstlich <3

Es wurde ein feucht fröhlicher Abend mit gutem, leckeren Essen - sehr zu empfehlen - und heimischen Getränken, sowie guten Gesprächen und toller Unterhaltung durch Rainer mit ai. Obwohl Rausch hour war , hat uns der gute Rainer noch einen Tisch besorgt. Das Essen war absolut klasse und der Service war fleißig und locker drauf. Uns hat es sehr gefallen und wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder einkehren. Kellner Rainer , Grüße von Philipp (von der Ostsee). 👍😊

Wir waren letzte Woche hier zu Dritt zum Abendessen verabredet. Endlich mal wieder Cordon Bleu auf einer Karte entdeckt und bestellt. Es war super lecker! Auch die anderen Gerichte, wie Zwiebelrostbraten und Lammfilet waren auf den Punkt gebraten. Tolle Weine/Getränke zur Auswahl. Auch das anschl. Dessert war sehr lecker. Trotz voller Tische wurden wir sehr professionell bedient und das Essen zeitgerecht serviert. Danke an Alle für den sehr schönen Abend. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall sehr gern wieder.

Dachte erst typischer Touri Laden.Habe dann einen gemischten Vorspeisen Teller bestellt. War begeistert Ebenso vom gemischten Dessert Teller.Sehr empfehlenswert

Pot au Feu (Maishähnchen französische Art mit Gemüse in Brühe) und mit Polenta war einfach überragend, eine sehr positive Überraschung. Wir werden sehr gerne wieder kommen. Nochmals grosses Kompliment an die Küche!

Super gut...draussen mitten auf dem Marktplatz in Marburg. Cordon Bleu mit Bratkartoffeln und Salat war der Hammer...

In diesem urigen Lokal bekommt ihr überraschenderweise (wenn auch wenige) vegane Gerichte! Auch die hausgemachte Limonade ist ein Must Try. Leider Abzug wegen dem erlebtem Service.

Ein großer Dankeschön an das Team und die Küche des Restaurants. Wir haben uns hier rundum wohl gefühlt und auch das Essen war mega. Von einem freundlichem Empfang, über eine schnelle und sympathische Bedienung, leckeres Essen mit gutem Wein und Bier, bis zur Verabschiedung, sitzt hier das Herz an der richtigen Stelle. Wir freuen uns, dass unser Sohn (Student) dieses Team unterstützen darf; an unserem gemeinsamen Abend durfte aber auch er den zuvorkommendem Service genießen. Wir waren nun zum zweiten Mal in der Sonne. Nach anstregendem Tagungstag fühlten wir uns in der Sonne abends sehr wohl. Mit Rainer war es ein lustiger und rundherum gelungener Abend. Essen, Service und Atmosphäre gehen nicht besser...... Danke nochmal von allen aus Osthessen.......
