Zur Pleißenburg in Leipzig

...thanks to our hotel stay on March 13th, we (with another hotel guest) headed to the Pleißenburg. We're both from the Ruhr area but were born in Central Germany, aka East Germany, armed with a nostalgic hunger. From the hotel to the Pleißenburg, we sampled all the famous restaurants, from the Baltic Sea to the mountains. We were excited to see what culinary delights awaited us. We have to give it a unanimous 100 out of 10 points - everything was just right - a successful evening - thanks to the team. Keep up the good work! Best wishes for continued success.

Absolutely brilliant ... staff was very friendly

A quaint restaurant with excellent regional cuisine. The clientele is typically tourists, but there are also local regulars. Smoking is permitted inside. The staff is a bit gruff, but also quite friendly. We've been there twice, and the food was excellent. Advance reservations are recommended on weekends.

A nice little restaurant, the food was absolutely great, but the service left a lot to be desired. Ordered a spiced meat and 2 Strammen Max. The second tight Max should be served later. Since the portions are more than generous, the saturation was already reached. We asked the waitress if the second portion was already in progress. This would be denied. When asked if the court could be “cancelled” since it hasn’t started yet. This was denied with the statement "she doesn't have a cancellation button on her device. Then she quickly went to the kitchen and ordered the dish... The second tight Max had to be taken along and after about 2.5 hours of driving it wasn't quite as tight anymore... It's a real shame because the food was really good.

It’s a nice cafe, but inside it’s not pleasant, there’s a heavy smell of cigarettes and cooking, but on the summer terrace it’s great. The portions are very large, the food is delicious, the prices are quite reasonable, the service is good, the wait for the order was about 10 minutes.

Unfortunately I can't recommend it. This is a smoking bar. I don't think it's good because it's also a restaurant where people eat. I also find it strange when each beer is charged individually immediately after ordering. I've never experienced that before. 😐

Ambience can't be beat. Service was very, very nice. The food was lukewarm and some of the steak was still raw.

Unfortunately there are only 2 stars here, one for the friendly service and one for the great ambience. The remaining 3 stars were lost due to the food. This was ready within a few minutes and it tasted just like that. The potatoes and the schnitzel were not freshly prepared.

The combination of smoky pint and Doris behind the counter is simply world class. We'll be back at the start at the next Werder game...

Do you like rustic, down-to-earth, solid cuisine with fair prices and friendly, fast service? Then this is your restaurant in the center of Leipzig. I had tasty house pilsner, delicious spicy chicken and of course Worcestershire sauce from Exzellent Dresden, beef goulash with spirellis. You will be full and happy and not poor. Oh and there are lots of exciting decorations to discover. Thanks a thousand and see you again soon.

The most popular place for local food and a GDR touch in the trade fair city

Actually a nice old restaurant, the service is very nice, but you have to compensate for the incompetence of the cook. Ordered liver with fried onions and mashed potatoes... liver burnt, bone hard and fart dry. Complained, got new liver... Liver this time completely raw, only lightly fried... Onions burned this time and the mashed potatoes... actually just mashed potatoes... honestly... the chef doesn't even have the level of an apprentice in the first three weeks. Our friend ordered pork knuckle... it was bone with a few shabby meat fibers... not even a mini pork knuckle... Our table neighbors had ordered schnitzel or something similar... it was raw pork... so not recommended. So this chef should be fired without notice because it is damaging to business!!! Leipzig is the city where I was born and has always had good gastronomy... but I'm ashamed of that, even as a former Leipzig resident.

Simply awesome! Was there 30 years ago as a student. Still an inexpensive insider tip. With a special charm. I love it!

They still exist. The pub where smokers are welcome. Rustic atmosphere. The service direct and dominant. The food was tasty. As a Leipziger, I would often spend my evenings in the tavern. Smoke, a beer and something hearty to fill you up.

Cheap, quaint, good middle class. Flat duck (boneless) was quite a treat. Smoking bar. Great service. The Pleißenburg has charm. We felt comfortable.

I would have liked to give the ladies zero stars, unfortunately that's not possible. My wife and I sat there for about 30 minutes and the slightly stressed ladies didn't react at all to eye contact or approaching customers. We left frustrated and hungry

Was here for the second time now and am satisfied. The Pleißenburg is of course classic German cuisine. The schnitzel, which I ordered once as hamburger style and once as chicken, was good. The side dishes and fried potatoes were also good. Of course it wasn't a premium schnitzel, but I've eaten much worse and can't complain for the price. Unfortunately, as a non-smoker, if you sit inside you are exposed to the smoke. If you want, you can also sit outside. There are also fire warmers and lap blankets here during the cold season.

Cozy, quaint, very friendly staff, ideal for a stopover during a shopping trip I was here again with my girlfriend and her grandchild: it's still really cozy, the meals are delicious and the service is quick. Goscha is an extremely nice and competent restaurant employee who treats the guests in a friendly and attentive manner! It's really nice to sit here and have a good time! We don't come here often, but we come here regularly! My friend's teenage granddaughter is also well looked after here!

With a lot of luck, I managed to get a table for two people today on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. without a reservation. It was very busy. We were attracted by the offers outside. The menu includes home-style cooking, such as sauerkraut with bratwurst, goulash soup and much more. But also typical regional dishes such as Soljanka, Rostbrätl, dumplings with red cabbage and roulade. We had two gypsy schnitzels and were very satisfied. Large portions, good taste and rare - the price-performance ratio is right. We also really liked the house brand beer. The service was quick, attentive and friendly. Overall, highly recommended!

Service wasn't particularly good and it took a long time... I waited 40 minutes for my dish and then it came to the table lukewarm. Price okay, but you have to know that it is a smoking bar.

Discovered by chance and it was clear to us that we would go there again on our next visit to Leipzig. Tasty food at absolutely top prices. The portions are really really good! Normally the kitchen is open until 5:00 a.m. as the service staff told us, but due to a lack of staff "only" until 2:00 a.m.... but that alone is amazing! We sat well outside, but we only saw it briefly when we went to the toilet, so it was bad for us. We felt comfortable outside. I really liked the good woman who looked after us. A little advanced in age, but on the ball as can be! Many young talents can learn a lot from this! If I didn't miscount there were 14 outside! Tables of different sizes. Nothing was written down or typed into state-of-the-art equipment. You ordered, it was registered and a few minutes later the things were there.....great! For the hard-boiled, the “Krabbeldewandenuff” to digest afterwards. Ouch but cool :-) We'll definitely be back!

We were there today, the service was friendly. If a visually impaired person comes in, they will definitely get help.

We ate a Jägerschnitzel and a schnitzel au four here today. Both dishes were very plentiful and very tasty. I was particularly pleased that the schnitzel au four included vegetables. That's rare. The landlady was very nice and we can only thank you for the good dinner.

Nice pub, long opening hours with warm food in the evening

Somewhat slightly overwhelmed staff. My cauliflower was only briefly kissed by hollandaise sauce, while the same dish at the table next to it was just swimming. Noodles still too salty.

Whenever I'm in Leipzig, I have to eat here at least once. Always very nice and good service. Fantastic value for money and there is hot food until late at night I can recommend it to everyone! :)

A lovely little restaurant with a very cozy atmosphere in a side street next to the New Town Hall. The waitress was not very helpful, but overall ok.

The beer was hot Low quantity of food, compared to the price They serve no bread Most of the beers were not available But most of all: the water was totally unkind and rude. While talking to her, she run away several times without even listening to the order. This was a terrible experience, I won't come here anymore

The Pleißenburg is a pub like no other in the city center of Leipzig. But you have to take it as it is. It looks like it comes from another, long-time vegan era. People still smoke there, and heavily. But you notice that when you go in and the lush blue haze blows towards you. If you stay in there for a while, you will take the scent home with you. If you accept that, you can experience a rustic pub with good beer and home-style cooking for reasonable prices.

In principle, the food is good, plentiful and cheap. The kitchen should make sure that the fried potatoes are not burnt and if they are, as in our case, the service should not serve the food to the guests.

Smoking bar! This wasn't excellent, but you could smell it straight away when you walked in! We were pointed out somewhat rudely when we entered because we had a small child with us. We then sat outside. Despite there being little activity, we were ignored for about 10 minutes. The waitress was at the neighboring table several times, but didn't give us a menu or ask us about drinks. The menu in Google looked promising, also in terms of price. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to test it.

There were 2 waitress ladies that were in a different race. They were trying to win who can make the guests more uncomfortable and unwanted. I picked the lady with darker hair for repeating my friends complain in funny voice and then saying “oh, god!” and leaving. Don’t even bother, food was also not great at all.

Rude staff. Don’t go if you don’t know German as they won’t serve you. They need to take a course on how to be an employee in service and hospitality as they were freaking hostile to every tourist. Also the food is extremely mediocre.

At first we spent quite a while waiting to be served and no one took us into account. But after a few minutes the waitress arrived and was quite friendly. Prices are low compared to other places downtown and the food is good, although not great. Yes, the portions are huge. Good variety of beers to choose from.

Our “regular pub” for more than 20 years. Always good conversations with regulars and random guests over a nice beer and good, regional food. Bad luck, if the long-standing "head of service" doesn't like you (for whatever reason??), then you have to respect that and look for alternatives, which, thank God, there are plenty of in Leipzig.

The waitress outside was so unfriendly and unprofessional, I've never experienced anything like that in my life. Overwhelm or not, but as a guest you don't have to be told why you didn't bring in the previous guests' glasses. After the third unfriendly statement, we got up and left.

I have rarely been treated so unkindly in a restaurant. At the beginning there were two waitresses, but at some point there was only one alone. And of course I understand that it may take a little longer. At some point we were no longer paid attention to, other guests simply left because they weren't served. When we wanted the bill we were told that we had to pay for it because she didn't know what we had. Once inside, we observed another unpleasant behavior towards other guests. It was really unpleasant and had nothing to do with good service. No thank you, no please, no smile. We've never experienced anything like this before. Unfortunately there was no tip either.

Super cool the woman and of course her pub. And the heart is in the right place. Very open communication. Attends to her guests. Clean toilets and a generally great atmosphere. Would love to come back. 😃🍺

Great restaurant that you can always go back to for home cooking because it's open for a very long time. Very inexpensive and charming waitresses.

We were very hungry and needed something good to eat on the way. I'll put it this way: you could eat everyone else's food (steak or four) and it was good. However, my food (schnitzel and asparagus) was very poor. Unfortunately, I had to give my food back after it came to our place. The asparagus was absolutely woody and not cooked through and hard. On the second try, the asparagus was a little softer but still very woody. With the toilets you could make sure that the door is functional and can be locked!

Not necessarily with food (hamburger schnitzel), the H. schnitzel was a bit tough. We cannot evaluate anything else.

The waitress was alone and visibly overwhelmed. The chicken fricasse was supposed to be with rice, we got potatoes. The cocktail wasn't beautifully made and had to be returned because there was no cream. Unfortunately I have to say that it is not recommended. It's a shame, it used to be better.

Very well located restaurant with an international audience. Seating inside and outside, unfortunately a smoking place that is not clearly marked enough. We sat outside because of it, but we still became passive smokers. The food is okay, even if you have to wait longer. The service is quick and friendly. The portions are sufficient and reasonably priced.

Unfortunately I can't give 0 stars because this restaurant more than deserves it. On a Friday evening, four of us young ladies (not drunk!) wanted to eat something and enjoy a beer after work. Unfortunately we were greeted very unfriendly by the waitress and it was immediately made clear to us that we were unwelcome. After we politely asked for a free table (there was one available) we were "thrown out". It's a shame, people in the restaurant don't seem to want to take care of their guests. I personally have never been treated so badly. I will avoid the place!

Unfortunately, we didn't manage to eat in the restaurant because the waitress didn't even go out to the garden to see if there were any customers for over 15 minutes. Wanting something to eat, we finally went inside and asked if we could order. The waitress was standing with a phone at the bar and in a dismissive tone replied that she didn't speak English, still looking at the phone.

A small pub, East German style, with an outdoor area - for non-smokers. German cuisine with an Eastern twist, no kebabs, sushi, tortellini or anything like that. Just like it used to be. Highly recommended!!!

Completely overrated! Rostbrätl consists only of gristly, sinewy, barely edible meat. Too few fried potatoes. Glasses are dirty and smell/taste like beer. The whole place smells of cigarette smoke, and people are smoking happily while food is being served. I can well imagine that many people had to wait forever for their food or for their orders to be taken, as it is very important to the waitress to have long, detailed conversations with individual guests about their health problems. Absolutely not recommended! I would be interested to know who and why gave this cute shop 5 stars.
