Absolutely delicious! The apple pie is sublime. One of my best dinners in Berlin. You must book before going.

Their food was amazing. I found this gem through ChatGpt for good pork trotters and the first one popped out is here. I ordered a pork knuckle, a mash potato side, and a beer with lemonade. They were all good. I’m from the Asian background and we cook pork trotters well, so my standards are high. This place killed it. The pork skin was crispy outside yet the inside fat was juicy. The pork was mostly tender and seasoned well. The food portion was satisfying (I’m a big eater) and the price was reasonable. Another highlight was their service. Gianluca was super friendly and his English was fluid. I even met a YouTuber who had two-million subscribers and his girlfriend next to my table! Apparently this place is a well-known restaurant with a good long history. I highly recommend it!

Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante in quanto è il più antico di berlino e abbiamo visto delle ottime recensioni. Confermo tutto ...intanto il ristorante è una piccola casetta attorniata da palazzoni e già questo dall'esterno salta all'occhio perché è una struttura chiaramente datata e davvero carina. All'interno tipicamente arredata come era un tempo. Siamo stati serviti da un ragazzo spagnolo davvero gentile, ma soprattutto il cibo...signori il cibo oltre ad essere di eccellente qualità era cucinato davvero molto molto bene , come può fare una nonna nostra a casa! Noi abbiamo preso, una specie di canederli ( non ricordo il nome ) , lo stinco e uno strudel di cui ci siamo laccati i baffi ..bisogna attendere 20 min per quest'ultimo perché lo fanno al momento, ma ne vale davvero la pena. Posso dire che è uno dei migliori ristoranti in cui ho cenato durante mia vacanza a Berlino.. Consigliatissimooooo

This restaurant was great to go to being the oldest restaurant in Berlin. Food was good, staff friendly but poor at clearing plates away after eating.

I visited this restaurant with my sister about 10 days ago and would like to leave my positive review. I found out about this place because some scenes from my favorite movie “Seventeen Moments of Spring” were filmed here. Later, I learned more about the history of this establishment and made it my goal to visit it. A place with its own soul, with a special atmosphere. Although there are many comments about the staff being unfriendly and rude towards foreigners, I can safely say that this is just a myth. The waiters were always very attentive to us and the speed of service was very good, so thank you to the restaurant staff. The food is very simple and at the same time very tasty. We ordered grilled knuckle and Berlin veal liver. A lot of people have praised the beer here in the reviews, but for me it's just a good beer, nothing special. Or these visitors have never tasted good beer. Overall, I can only recommend a visit to the restaurant if you plan to come to Berlin at least once.

Perfect for a typical German lunch at a very good price in a lovely place. Napoleon is said to have been here. A place in the center but you have to know, so it is not advertised. It is the oldest bar in Berlin. Very attentive staff. If I come back to the area I will repeat.

Price-performance ratio is more than overpriced, the portion sizes are very manageable. You can only pay per table; if you have a larger group, you have to figure everything out yourself. The table was reserved for 5:30 p.m. and the restaurant didn't open until 5:30 p.m. sharp, but we couldn't expect a friendly greeting. The service was very overwhelmed. The toilets could use a cleaning and a scent tree. Maybe the portions are so small because otherwise you can no longer fit into the toilet, which is very limited in space. All in all, unfortunately, more of a tourist trap.

U2: Get off at Klosterstr. and walk for 3 minutes. It's a little hard to find as it's located behind a large building and there aren't any stores around. It faces a narrow street. You can make a reservation on the website. We were seated at 18:00 on a Saturday, but I recommend making a reservation for the evening. It was around dinner time, so it was a popular restaurant with a lot of customers. The staff are friendly, hard working and lively. It's best to let the staff know that you have a reservation, leave the rest to the staff, and wait for guidance. Drinks and food were served smoothly without any wait. The menu is as shown on the website, so if you're unfamiliar with the language, it's a good idea to do some research in advance. This time I ate alone, but you can enjoy a meal in any situation, including couples, friends, and families. The seasoning is just right, with just the right amount of salt, and goes well with any kind of drink. This time I ordered pickles and cabbage rolls. For my sluggish stomach, I was grateful for the pickles as a vinegared dish. The cabbage rolls were also served piping hot, and felt even more delicious on my cold body. Minced meat contains cumin, so those who don't like it should avoid it. The pork belly is roasted to a crispy skin, but the meat is tender enough to fall apart with a fork. This is a restaurant I would like to visit again during my stay. Thinking I had had enough, I walked a little and arrived at Alexanderplatz. The location is easily accessible by bus, tram, S or Ubarn.

Absolutely amazing traditional food-not like other typical touristy restaurants. A hidden historical gem

We ordered Königsberger Klopse. As a side dish there was coarse herb mashed potatoes with melted butter. The service was great. The prices for the drinks are fair. All the employees were friendly and kept an eye on all the tables. The service speaks German and English (this is not the case everywhere in Mitte). We lost track of the time there, so we sat in the restaurant for 5 hours. We would love to come here again.

wir haben im zur letzten instanz zu abend gegessen und unsere erfahrung war sehr positiv das personal war äußerst freundlich und professionell die speisen waren frisch und lecker besonders die fleischgerichte waren hervorragend das innere des restaurants war gemütlich und geschmackvoll dekoriert die preise waren ebenfalls angemessen

Ci siamo stati per cenare, camerieri per nulla educati ,di un inglese poco comprensibile, tra l'altro ci hanno anche deriso quando nn capivamo. Tutto troppo esageratamente costoso, addirittura per due pezzettini di pane ci hanno fatto pagare 6€. Menù scarno. Posto isolato. Millantano anni e anni di esperienza ..ma....ci hanno chiesto la mancia ( che im tutti i locali abbiamo dato) ma nn se la meritano...

Nuestro último intento de conseguir una mesa durante las vacaciones terminó siendo exitoso como un paseo - en el postre y café en su acogedora zona de bar. Fue un final perfecto para nuestro tiempo en Berlín, caminando por la calle desde nuestra habitación para este delicioso postre horneado. Tenía un toque festivo, en forma de estrella con un rico helado de vainilla cubierto con un crujiente disco de azúcar carmelizada! El café era excelente también.

Lovely food, enjoyed the veal, amazing bread, and the cheese and pear soufflé. The location is unique and the personnel work great together to keep things in good harmony. Worth a visit!

Nice atmosphere but the food is average and overrated in my opinion the service was average as it was a single serve and they didn't refill the wine, the shank was definitely dry cooked hours ago maybe even the previous one, the soup was good, the meatballs indifferent as well as the dumplings which had a special cheesy taste of strong milk but that's about it. I wouldn't recommend it but it's not worth a second visit maybe just for a wine.

Really enjoyed the food…so much that I inevitably “stuffed” myself. The duck was amazingly good (!!) & a great wine selection!

This restaurant rips off customers!

We went in knowing it's the oldest restaurant/bar in Berlin so probably touristy. The prices might be a bit higher than one would expect for Berliner/German food, but the quality of the ingredients, taste and care that went into our meal was noticeable. We went in for lunch had the Klopse ("meatballs") and half a duck, and the flavors, textures and presentation were on point. We also had the homemade pickled winter vegetables, and they were superb! They were quality veggies cut perfectly for each veg type and complemented our meals with a nice zing. We're big eaters, so I was a bit worried because the other reviews talk about leaving hungry. Our portions were big and so filling that we felt full well into the evening. We were too full for dessert. The service was great! Very friendly and the server spoke both English and German. She was patient and very helpful. The wine menu has a nice selection, and we were happy to try different Sekts that were delicious. I definitely expect to return when I have friends visiting the city or when we have something to celebrate.

Zur Letzten Instanz is a must-visit for incredible German food! The dishes are rich in flavor and tradition, and the staff is wonderfully kind and welcoming. Highly recommended for an authentic dining experience!

Cozy restaurant with a historical ambience and very friendly service. The classic Berlin dishes were consistently very good and beautifully presented. Given the prices, the portions could be a little larger.

Very good food with particularly generous portions! We had a reservation and even though we were late they served us excellently! We got 3 dishes and 2 drinks and the bill was €93! On the downside, they told us that we can't pay by card!

Friendly and warm place Good traditional cuisine but at a price that is much too high

Location molto bella, personale gentile. I piatti sono visivamente belli, ma le Porzioni sono scarse, così come il rapporto qualità prezzo. Due calici di vino a noi consigliati , 22€ e una bottiglia d’acqua 8€. Menu ristretto , per poi scoprire dal servizio offerto alla coppia a fianco, che ce n’era anche un altro , che a noi non è stato proposto. Le porzioni sono piccole : Gli gnocchi come antipasto, sono 2 come le polpette che sono un secondo ed entrambi i piatti non sono stati un granché . Totale 66€ e siamo usciti con la fame. A Berlino ci sono locali dove si mangia meglio e si spende meno .

Pedí el "codillo" de cerdo. Viene sobre un colchon de cebolla morada dulce. Estaba riquísimo. La carne estaba suave, se deshacía y la combinación con el dulzor de la base era perfecta. Lo pedí acompañado de un puré de papas. El restaurante es muy antiguo (del 1600) y la atmósfera obviamente acompaña. La atencion fue buena, lo cual contradice alguna de las críticas que vi antes. El precio razonable para la califad y la historia del lugar. Le habia pedido a la chica del hotel que me recomendara un lugar NO turístico de comida tradicional alemana y no me defraudó

Classic German cuisine! It’s a small place with maybe 8-10 tables , but they sat us easily as a large group (6) on a Thursday! I had the meatballs and I thought they were wickedly good. Nothing overpowering, just good classic food. Beer was good, felt so nice and cozy and what I expected in Germany as a Canadian. Although, the apple tart looked beautiful and smelled amazing, it was just okay tasting. (I’ll take a Canadian apple pie any day over it, sorry!)

Super cozy but very popular. Reservation recommended. The food is varied and you can also order small portions (e.g. mustard eggs). Staff speaks several languages, very international crowd. Prices are very reasonable for the food but not a cheap restaurant. But there are inexpensive dishes on the menu.

Apart from the declared age, the restaurant actually has nothing to surprise you with. Unexpectedly small portions, the specific taste of some dishes, unfriendly service for foreigners, unavailability of WiFi for guests, although the turned on router was lying directly in front of us on the windowsill, are unlikely to leave you with the desire to ever return here.

I came with my family, and as the only vegan, I wasn’t expecting much. The restaurant is definitely not vegan-friendly, so I assumed I’d end up with just a side dish. However, they went above and beyond and created a custom vegan dish for me, which was quite good! The restaurant staff was very attentive and friendly too.

The culinary offering is quite clear, but the price level is sporty. We were in a group of 5 people and - since everyone was self-paying - we were allowed to calculate the total bill. Individual invoices will explicitly not be issued.

We visited the restaurant as a last resort for dinner. We were looking forward to the great dishes. Unfortunately we were there on a Wednesday. On Wednesday it's cold food! The service served us a large selection of different cold dishes: Sausage, cheese, bean salad, vegetables. We enjoyed it excellently! The service was very friendly and attentive.

Could not recommend this place enough. Everything was absolutely delicious and it’s rare that I have three courses and feel so great so that speaks to the freshness and provenance of the ingredients. Our first meal in Berlin and I would be surprised if anything could top it!

Food quality is good but overpriced. I think cabbage roulade with mock belly and additional mashed potatoes for 28 euros is much exaggerated. Railings on the stairs in front of and in the restaurant would be helpful for disabled people.

We went here for dinner with work colleagues. Super quaint and rustic! The food left nothing to be desired, the portions were large enough and the service was also good. The wine list was also extremely good, although such establishments tend to focus more on beer. The pickled vegetables with the bread and the knuckle are particularly memorable.

We ordered and enjoyed the juicy pork knuckle, Bergkäseknödel, and Perlhuhnbrust nach Winzerin Art. One staff member speaks several languages, making our visit more accessible and enjoyable. We will definitely return. Tip: make a reservation in advance.

Ich kenne diese Restaurant schon seit sehr längeren Zeit. Vor einigen Jahren das Essen hat noch geschmeckt. Die letzte paar Mal das Essen war fürchterlich. Alles war über salzen. Das Geschmack... wie soll ich das nennen... Uber salzen, komisch, geschmacklos. Z.b. über salzene Fleisch mit ganz komischen (Reste aus der Dose?) Fisch Soße. Und so waren alle Gerichte, die wir bestellt haben. Schade. Kann man nicht anderen Koch einstellen??? Dazu auch sehr teuer für so ein... Nie wieder.

We came here for a nightcap on Wednesday after a great “cultural experience” - we were warmly welcomed and served quickly. Quaint pub that has retained its charm. Then the last round was “called” around 10:30 p.m. - and around 10:45 p.m. the chairs were put up at the free tables, even though there were still enough guests present… a somewhat “guest-unfriendly” atmosphere arose, and that at this price level… DIT IS BERLIN

Every time you visit you are warmly welcomed and the dishes are very delicious and creative. The service is very good. I can highly recommend the restaurant.

If you are looking for a great pork knuckle this is the place, and also very famous because one of their past clients, Napoleon. The place is cozy and the staff is friendly. If you are vegan or vegetarian you might have some trouble eating, there's almost no options.

We had dinner at this oldest restaurant. The servers were very polite and helpful. They provide us with an English menu and also recommend their dishes. We had ordered broccoli with almond cream, pork knuckle, and mash potato. All are delicious.

The atmosphere was so warm and cosy, they were very busy but the hearty meals were delicious. A smaller menu but everything was delicious and homely, perfectly complimented the old history of the restaurant. The best thing on the menu was the dessert and the roasted pork knuckle

Excellent dinner on Saturday evening with super service, there is also a boy who speaks Italian, the food is really good and the courses are right and fill you up. I ate the best shank so far 😋😋 but the meatballs and rolls were also delicious, as were the bread gnocchi (of these perhaps it would have been better to have had one more to be a complete dish). The right bill for quality and quantity. The attentive and kind service as well as the very friendly staff (which is not negligible in Berlin). In short, I recommend it, just as I recommend booking to be safe.

Arrived 2 hours before closing, ordered food and the waitress forgot to place the order. After over 1 hour of waiting, went to complain and they said the kitchen was closed and that no order was made. Left without having eaten. Ridiculous

Terrible... I received poor service... they simply forgot the order that was made and written down... we only stayed for 1 hour and the staff cleaned the restaurant... we went to Doner and in 2 minutes we were treated very well... I don't recommend it!!!'

We sat outside and a bird literally pooped on our dinner plate half way through dinner. When we told the waiter, he says yes it happens. We expected some sort of compensation for the ruined dining experience and losing our appetite half way through the meal but none was given even after we asked. Very very bad experience!

We were there on September 6th, 2024 with 4 families = 8 people. The reservation in the beer garden worked very well, the weather cooperated. On the menu there was a note that billing was only per table. We asked that the order be taken per family and billed accordingly. This was rejected very arrogantly, we don't do that here. I had the 3 small meatballs on egg potato salad for 21.00 euros. A small bowl came lined with butcher paper and the 3 small meatballs on it. (At a party, this size is served on a small skewer with cucumber) The egg potato salad also came in a small bowl, the bottom was just covered. My wife had the salad of grilled apricots, goat's milk cream, tomato mamande, pine nuts. A plate was served with a thin layer of the tomato mamande, on top of which lay 3 half apricots and in the opening where the apricot kernel was, there was a blob of goat's milk cream and 5 pine nuts; there was not a lettuce leaf to be found. Cost 15.00 euros. Two people also ordered mountain cheese dumplings and light Veloute Panko for 15.00 euros. Two small dumplings were served, the waiter came with the sauce and spilled some of it on the guest's pants. There was only a half-hearted apology, which can happen from the waiter's mouth. Grilled knuckles, malt syrup and spiced red cabbage were also ordered for 28.00 euros. The red cabbage was floating on the plate and a small knuckle was placed on top. Additionally, mashed potatoes were ordered so that the colleagues were full. The restaurant was well filled with Asians, but there were very few local guests present. The last authority lives from tourists and the tradition of being the oldest inn in Berlin. Prices were completely exorbitant, only the colleagues who had ordered the knuckle were full, everyone else got up hungry.

Wir waren am 06.09.24 mit 4 Familien = 8 Personen vor Ort. Die Reservierung im Biergarten klappte sehr gut, das Wetter spielte mit. Auf der Speisekarte gab es den Vermerk, Abrechnung nur Tischweise. Wir baten darum die Bestellung pro Familie aufzunehen und auch so abzurechnen. Dieses wurde sehr arrogant abgelehnt, das machen wir hier so nicht. Ich hatte die 3 kleinen Buletten auf Eier Kartoffelsalat für 21,00 Euro. Es kam eine kleine Schale mit Butcherpapier ausgelegt und darauf die 3 kleinen Buletten. (Bei einer Party wird diese Größe mit Gurke auf einen kleinen Spieß gereicht) Der Eier Kartoffelsalat kam auch in einer kleinen Schale, der Boden war gerade bedeckt. Meine Frau hatte den Salat von gegrillten Aprikosen, Ziegenmilchcreme, Tomatenmamande, Pinienkerne. Serviert wurde ein Teller mit einer dünnen Schicht der Tomatenmamande, darauf lagen 3 halbe Aprikosen und in der Öffnung wo mal der Aprikosenkern war, befand sich ein Klecks Ziegenmilchcreme und 5 Pinienkerne, ein Salatblatt war nicht zu finden. Kostenpunkt 15,00 Euro. Weiterhin hatten 2 Personen Bergkäseknödel, leichte Veloute Panko für 15,00 Euro bestellt. Serviert wurden 2 kleine Knödel, der Kellner kam mit der Soße und verschüttete ein Teil davon auf der Hose des Gastes. Es kam nur eine halbherzige Entschuldigung, kann ja mal passieren aus dem Mund der Bedienung. Weiterhin wurde bestellt Grillhaxe, Malzsirup, Gewürzrotkohl für 28,00 Euro. Auf dem Teller schwamm der Rotkohl, darauf wurde eine kleine Haxe gelegt. Extra wurde noch Kartoffelstampf bestellt damit die Kollegen satt wurden. Das Lokal war von Asiaten gut gefüllt, einheimische Gäste waren sehr wenige anwesend. Die letzte Instanz lebt von den Touristen und der Tradition das älteste Gasthaus Berlins zu sein. Preise völlig überzogen, satt geworden sind nur die Kollegen die Haxe bestellt hatten, alle anderen sind hungrig aufgestanden.

Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Attentive and friendly service. Dishes with interesting and not banal combinations. Overall very good. For all this the price stands out.

Kändes som en turistfälla. Maten var antingen smaklös eller alldeles för salt. De hade inget som passade barn. De skulle kunna göra så mycket mer med en såpass anrik restaurang där historien verkligen sitter i väggarna. Dock god öl och trevlig personal, även om en kunde önska att de hade erbjudit något bättre till mitt barn.

I really liked it. Polite staff, attentive. The food is very tasty. Thanks to the cooks. The food is served quickly and of very high quality. I recommend it. We came with a child and the service was at a very high level. The interior is very interesting. Yes, this restaurant is shown in the film “17 Moments of Spring”. Don't believe bad reviews. Those who write bad reviews, smoke on the sidelines in silence.

I can't give a lower rating, just don't bother if you don't have a reservation...which they should announce because of how "requested it is" the place is big and even if more than half of the place is empty they receive you badly and with a bad face. Shame about the fame, because in my experience I won't go back.
