A dream ! Just remember to make a reservation if there are several people.

Yesterday we were guests as a family with 3 adults and 2 children. The restaurant is comfortably furnished and the service was very friendly. Everyone enjoyed the food and the portions were sufficient. There is no drinks menu, which I don't think is good. I was really speechless at the value for money for my meal and the two children's meals. A small goose breast with 2 dumplings made of ready-made dough, red cabbage and a mini jar of apple compote for 40 € and the children's portion of fries with chicken nuggets and a little curry sauce for 16 € almost border on highway robbery for me. We decided not to let the bill spoil our otherwise nice evening, but I certainly won't be eating there again on Sunday.

Das Essen war eine einzige Katastrophe. Als Wiener Schnitzel erwartet man 2 dünne panierte Scheiben Kalb ...wir hatten cm dicke Schnitzel, die nach Reklamation erneut serviert wurden. Die andere Dame bestellte Kalbsleber mit Kartoffelpüree. Es kamen 3 winzige Stücke Leber und extrem viel Kartoffelpüree. Nach Reklamation wegen des Fleisches (Menge) wurde das Gericht ausgetauscht und der Teller kam zurück mit etwas mehr Kalbsleber, aber im Püree befand sich noch eine halbe Kartoffel. Die anderen beiden Gerichte waren auch nicht lobenswert, aber wir verzichteten aus eine weitere Reklamation. Wir werden dieses Restaurant auf keinen Fall mehr besuchen!!!!!

The place itself is pleasant enough, cozy, located in the middle of the forest. Attentive and friendly staff. ⚠️Unfortunately, we did not know that there is an extremely limited menu on the weekend, so our holiday was a little spoiled. If we had known this, we would not have considered this establishment for our holiday gathering (20 people). ℹ️ Today's menu consisted of about fifteen (15) dishes, printed in large type to take up all the space on a sheet of A4 paper, but you can say that there were fewer dishes, as some were similar, like schnitzel with fries (dry, it is difficult to eat without drinks) and schnitzel with scrambled eggs and potatoes, ketchup or mayonnaise were portioned - separately in fast food-type bags. The choice of drinks was also very limited. For dessert, mainly variations with ice cream were offered. Based on the above, I do not rate the food highly. But based on the reviews of other visitors, it should probably be better here on other days. ❕ In general, I observe that it is a general problem to find a nice place to meet on weekends, especially with a large company or family, and it is extremely difficult to get used to it.

We stopped here spontaneously as part of a hike on the Baldeney Steig. The reception was reserved but not unfriendly, the service without complaint. The selection on the menu was clear (maybe it was on the October 3rd holiday). We ordered 2 hot drinks and 2 goulash soup. When asked if bread was served with it, this was surprisingly answered in the negative; but we could get some for a fee. All right! Hot cocoa was delicious, as was the latte macchiato. The soup came quickly, tasted okay, the portion wasn't large but so be it. After the meal the bill was paid (at first without a receipt) for €32.20. When I did the math, I was puzzled because the soup costs €8.00 each, so a total of €16.00. Where does the other half of the bill come from? So I asked for the receipt and took a look: cocoa €5.50, latte for €4.70 and the four slices of baguette for an impressive €6.00. When asked whether this was correct, the waitress confirmed and apologized: “I don’t set the prices”. With respect, performance has to be paid for and everything becomes more expensive. But I think it's cheeky to charge €6.00 ​​for 4 slices of baguette! We probably won't come back.

Im Rahmen einer Wanderung der Baldeney Steig sind wir hier spontan eingekehrt. Der Empfang war reserviert aber nicht unfreundlich, die Bedienung ohne Beanstandung. Die Auswahl auf der Karte übersichtlich (lag vll am Feiertag 3. Oktober). Wir bestellten 2 Heißgetränke und 2 mal die Gulaschsuppe. Auf die Nachfrage ob Brot dazu serviert wird, wurde dies überraschend verneint; aber wir könnten kostenpflichtig welches bekommen. Na gut! Heißer Kakao war lecker, Latte Macchiato ebenfalls. Die Suppe kam rasch, geschmacklich in Ordnung, die Portion nicht üppig aber sei es drum. Nach dem Essen die Rechnung (zuerst ohne Beleg) zu € 32,20 beglichen. Beim Nachrechnen wurde ich stutzig, denn die Suppe kostet je € 8,00 also zusammen € 16,00. Woher kommt die andere Hälfte der Rechnung? Also Beleg angefragt und mal nachgeschaut: Kakao € 5,50, Latte für € 4,70 und für die 4 Scheiben Baguette stolze € 6,00. Auf Nachfrage ob das korrekt sei, kam von der Bedienung eine Bestätigung und die Entschuldigung: „ich mache die Preise nicht“. Mit Verlaub, Leistung muss bezahlt werden und alles wird teurer. Aber für 4 Scheibchen Baguette € 6,00 zu verlangen, finde ich frech! Wir kommen wohl nicht wieder.

We had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. Our terrible schnitzel (for 29 euros) was served after an incredible 1.5 hours! We suspect our order was forgotten because after an hour we had to ask. Then it took another half hour until the terrible food finally arrived. The schnitzel itself was a disappointment. It was dry and tasteless. The service was also poor. The waiters were unfriendly and not attentive. Overall it was a very unpleasant experience that we cannot recommend.

Das Essen schmeckte gut. Es kam nach persönlicher Aufforderung über eine Stunde später. Wir wollten eigentlich einen Geburtstag feiern und ärgern uns noch heute. Das war bereits das dritte Mal. Einmal wurden wir trotz Reservierung wg. einer Hochzeitsgesellschaft ausgeladen, ein weiteres Mal mussten wir ebenfalls über eine Stunde warten. Zum Schluss bot man uns am 28.9. an: "Sie können ja stornieren!" Bestimmt kommen wir nicht wieder!

A nice little restaurant near Villa Hügel. It is just as hidden in the forest as the Klusen chapel that gives it its name. A parking space is available and guests will find a cozy spot outside and inside. The cuisine is varied and good, the service is fast and friendly, reservations are recommended. Payment only in cash or with Giro (EC) card.

This was my third time there and I was very satisfied every time. Both the terrace area and inside are beautifully designed. Every time we were served very friendly and attentive and the food always tasted good. Afterwards you can take a wonderful little digestive walk here. I would happily recommend it.

Totally idyllic and beautifully done beer garden. Had dinner there before the concert. Mega tasty, good portions and fresh ingredients were the order of the day here! Fast and friendly service. Next time we're in Essen, we'll definitely be back at Zur Kluse.

Wir waren zur Firmenfeier da. Das Essen (Fisch) war in meinen Augen ungenießbar: zäh und schlecht schmeckend. Auch die Vorspeisenplatten ließen wirklich zu wünschen übrig: Lachs, Schinken und Feta auf einem Teller, völlig unpassend, zusammengestellt. Leider hat die Kluse in den letzten Jahren TOTAL abgebaut. Es gab Zeiten, da ist man sonntags zum besonderen Essen dorthin gegangen, konnte dort besonders gut Fisch und Fleisch essen und es gab hervorragende Antipasti- Platten zu Vorspeise. Es war sowohl optisch als auch geschmacklich ein Gaumenschmaus. Schade…

At first glance it seems like a pretty decent place, but, unfortunately, the service is disgusting. We came as a group of three people and the waiter, until we called him twice, didn’t even plan to bring the menu. At some point we thought it was self-service, but no, it’s a pity. As soon as the menu was on the table, the waiter’s heavy and arrogant gaze began to put pressure on us, saying that you would “eat”, we hinted that we had not even opened the menu, but this did not stop him and he asked directly: what would you order. Still, we asked him to come a little later; after which every 30 seconds, like a general of troops, the waiter stood at our table, repeating his question, as per the regulations. Having placed our order, we had to wait 40 minutes; apparently, the restaurant is so chic that they grow their own vegetables and slaughter animals right on the spot. The food was mediocre, definitely not worth the money. As for the service, I just want to add that we waited more than 10 minutes for the bill. If you don't want to be treated with disdain, choose more pleasant places. I don't recommend it.

Terrible place. I asked to speak to me in English, the waiter started shouting at me in German. I won't understand you if you speak louder! The waiter ignored me, didn't bring the menu and the bill. The food took 40! minutes to prepare.

I've been going to this restaurant for 30 years...I also really enjoyed celebrating my birthdays...Yesterday I was there again with a hiking group...and I was speechless when I found out the price for a piece of cake ..6.00 euros.. .The ratio is not correct....the beer garden was almost empty....It's a shame....do you want to reduce the number of visitors through the prices????The menu has been redesigned...with corresponding prices.. .I don't have anything more to say...find out for yourself.

Wir waren am Abend mit vier Personen in der Aussengastronomie der Kluse. Sehr angenehmes Ambiente in historischer Umgebung der ehemaligen Eremitenkluse. Wir wurden freundlich begrüßt, trotz der hohen Auslastung war die Rüstung freundlich und gut. Das Essen mit 2 vegetarischen Gerichten und zwei Schnitzeln war gut, Gemüse und Salat knackig und frisch. Der Preis war im Vergleich zum Essener Süden angemessen. Trotz der Hitze mit 32 Grad war es durch die vielen alten Bäume schattig und angenehm. Gerne wieder.

Schöner schattiger Biergarten, freundlicher Service. Die vegetarischen Speisen waren sehr gut, der Preis ist i.O. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Ich bin gerne bereit für gutes Essen mehr zu bezahlen, aber mal abgesehen von den Portionen ist das Essen das Geld nicht wert

Very nicely located. Next to the old Klausen chapel. Lake Baldeney is in the immediate vicinity with many walking paths. Great outside area and quaint inside. Chef typical Ruhrpottler. Warm and friendly. The staff very attentive and friendly. All in all, a highly recommended location, especially on sunny days. Book a table in advance otherwise everything may be occupied. Wir waren hier im Januar im Rahmen eines Geburtstagsessens zu Gast. In der gemütlich Lokalität wurden wir freundlich empfangen und gut bedient. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Portionen mehr als ausreichend.

Bei meiner Ankunft habe ich sowohl sofort einen Parkplatz als auch einen feien Tisch im Biergarten gefunden. Das Lokal war gut besucht, aber nicht überfüllt. Die Servicekraft nahm meine Ankunft wahr, grüßte knapp ... und verschwand. In der Folgezeit bediente sie die Nachbartische, räumte Geschirr ab usw. Trotz Blickkontakt erhielt ich weder von ihr, noch von ihrer Kollegin eine Speisekarte. Getränkewünsche wurden nicht entgegengenommen. Ich saß wohl in der No-Go Area. Mittlerweile waren mehrere Tische frei geworden, es kann also nicht an Überlastung gelegen haben. Nach 35 Minuten habe ich mich entschieden das "gastliche" Haus zu verlasssen, ich möchte ja niemanden belästigen. Hinweis: Die Speisen werden von den Servicekräften mit weißen Handschuhen serviert. Ich fand es etwas " drüber" , denn der vornehme Stil passt nicht ganz zur Sauberkeit der Gartentische. Jedenfalls war die Hinterlassenschaft der Singvögel offensichtlich schon länger auf der Tischplatte. Fazit: Schade um einen schön gelegenen Gasthof im Grünen, der durch seinen unprofessionellen Service nicht zur Besuch einlädt.

Ambiance was nice, service was friendly and top but the food wasn't convincing for the price range. We had looked at the menu online in advance, there was a lot online that appealed to me, but the selection on site was much smaller. ordered across the menu including starters. The portions for the main course were ok, the starters were really just a bite. In terms of taste, neither one blew you away. You could eat everything, it was delicious, but given the high prices you would have hoped for a little more sophistication and specialness. I wouldn't eat there again, but I would definitely drink a coffee in the beer garden.

Totally overpriced and very poor quality, especially the ice cream and desserts

Wer pampige Bedienung, miesen Service, eher schlechte und überteuerte Küche schätzt und außerdem gern als Bittsteller (statt als Gast) auftritt, kommt hier auf seine Kosten. So unsere Erfahrung. Der Hintergrund: Wir waren eine zehnköpfige Gesellschaft und hatten zum 90. Geburtstag unserer Mutter einen Tisch für den frühen Abend bestellt. Um keine Überraschung zu erleben, hatten wir uns zuvor gleich dreimal (!) telefonisch die Zusicherung geben lassen, das Lokal habe abends auch noch nach 22 Uhr geöffnet. Und dann das: Die Bedienung verdrehte zu unserer Begrüßung um 18:30 Uhr sichtlich genervt die Augen („schon wieder so lästige Gäste“). Die Bestellungen wurden im barschen Kommando-Ton aufgenommen, der ganze folgende Service vermittelte uns einen lieblosen und ruppigen Eindruck. Die servierten Speisen (u.a. Sauerbraten, Hackbraten) waren allesamt lieblos zusammengekocht und gemessen am Preis eine kulinarische Ohrfeige. Wir wollten dann noch Getränke bestellen, um unseren Groll herunterzuspülen, aber trotz der dreimaligen (!) Zusicherung, man habe bis mindestens 22 Uhr (oder gar länger) geöffnet, wurden wir um 20:45 Uhr dann aufgefordert zu zahlen. Und noch bevor die Jubilarin ihr Geschenk ausgepackt hatte, wurden wir allesamt auf die Straße hinauskomplimentiert. Protest zwecklos, wir hätten uns ja im Internet über die Öffnungszeiten schlau machen können, belehrte uns höhnisch die dreiste Bedienung - entgegen allen zuvor gegebenen Zusicherungen. So also standen wir dann gegen 21 Uhr verärgert und ratlos auf dem Parkplatz, die Stimmung zu Mutters Neunzigstem war ruiniert. Vor unseren Augen lud der Chef seine ruppige Servierhilfe in den Porsche. Für über 300 Euro hatten wir statt eines fröhlichen Geburtstagstreffens einen miserablen Abend erlebt. So also läuft das Geschäft in der Kluse, dachten wir uns. Und vermutlich hätten wir uns in jedem beliebigen Schnellimbiß mehr amüsiert. P.S. Null Sterne kann man hier leider nicht vergeben. Deshalb gibt es den einen Stern für das gepflegte Sanitär.

Essen eigentlich gut aber: Hauptgerichte fair im Preis aber die Karte noch vollständig; Getränkekarte nicht verfügbar - Vorspeise teuer, wenig 2 kl.Baguette Scheiben, Rückfrage nach Brot , es kamen 6 kleine Baguette Scheiben, zusätzlich 6 €!! Wasser 8 € So machten die sonst üblichen Bisides 40 % der Rechnung aus! Daher nie wieder

The schnitzel dishes were ok, but we had to return two other main courses because they really didn't taste good. A lot of finished products, which unfortunately you could also taste. There is room for improvement in how staff deal with criticism. Not only us, but also other tables commented on the frozen herb butter in the starter. Then everyone got the answer that that's how it was in this restaurant. When we received honest feedback about the food, we were no longer served...very unprofessional. Just a nice ambience is not enough for us to visit this restaurant again.

Catastrophe! You want to go out for a nice meal with your family on a special occasion and then this! The high prices were well known, but of course they raised expectations of fresh, high-quality dishes. What you get: 6 slices of baked baguette with two ready-made dips and a frozen herb butter for €12. Mini edition of "Antipasti" for €16. When asked about the butter, also by other guests: "That's how it is here." Main courses: all ready-made products! The schnitzel variants were ok. Grill plate for €30!! Only bad! Fried potatoes are not edible because they are completely peppered, vegetables are unseasoned and only warmed up, the sauce is watery. After complaining, I received completely unseasoned fried potatoes, the rest as usual. Pasta with salmon for €26 is completely tasteless. After a complaint it was 'refined' with garlic oil. After that we weren't served anymore. Neither asked for drinks nor showed up to pay. Then we went to the counter. Overall, catastrophic at the prices and not open to criticism. There was a half-hearted apology when paying. This works better even in system catering! In any case, the Kluse has seen us for the last time. What a shame for the beautiful restaurant!

Das Essen war lecker und der Service schnell und recht aufmerksam aber insgesamt war es VIEL zu teuer. Spargel und Beilagen kosten 25 €, ein Kalbsschnitzel dazu kostet 20 € Aufpreis. Das Schnitzel mit Beilagen kostet 22 €. Sehr fragwürdige Preispolitik. Auf Nachfrage sagte man mir, das berechnen wir halt so. Ich will nicht alles schlecht reden aber bei den Preisen könnte man zumindest einen gefegten Biergarten und einen sauberen Tisch erwarten. Das habe ich in anderen vielen Restaurants schon wesentlich besser gesehen. Ich kann von einem Besuch abraten.

I've been going to the Kluse very often for years, and every time the food is great! Large portions for a reasonable price. But today I thought I wasn't seeing right. If you have a schnitzel with fries (which isn't exactly cheap), you'll get 4 times of mayo on the table and the bill will show you 4 * €0.80. The starter was frozen herb butter, and asking for two more slices of bread cost €6. This is a rip off!!

Hallo ,waren heute das erste Mal in der Kluse und mit Sicherheit auch das letzte Mal, haben Kalbsleber bestellt und hatten tatsächlich 2 dünne scheibchen Leber gefunden unter halbgaren Zwiebeln und Kartoffelpürre und das zu einem Preis von unglaublichen 20 €.Das preisleistungsverhältniss stimmt in keinster Weise, es sei denn ich habe irgendeinen Stern übersehen !!!!

If I'm honest, these 3 stars are given with a lot of goodwill from me. Today we had dinner in the inn with 3 adults, a toddler and 1 baby. When we arrived at 5:30 p.m. there were only 3 other tables occupied and we were asked very quickly what drinks we wanted. A high chair for our daughter suggested by the service person also arrived immediately. The food order was also made very promptly after the drinks were brought. Since we had some requests for changes due to preferences and allergies, you could tell that the service person's mood was noticeably declining. A children's dish and 3 schnitzel dishes were ordered, of which the children's dish was served very quickly and well before the other dishes. Unfortunately, I have to say that in my opinion it doesn't make much sense to offer a spaghetti dish for children, as other types of pasta such as penne or fusilli are better suited for children, especially since only a large spoon was served with the spaghetti dish and only on Demand a fork was brought. (The service person was no longer in the best mood, they were still friendly to all the other guests, but things were getting icier for us) Then came the 3 schnitzel dishes and when you had to go to the front in person to order a component that had been specially ordered and was missing until then, you were very rudely reprimanded by the service person for not having ordered this component. It was just strange that everyone at the table had heard this extra request when ordering (it was herb butter - so nothing out of the ordinary). This was then brought at some point and “slammed” onto the table, which was already a step away from normal service. Unfortunately, the herb butter was frozen, so it wasn't possible to enjoy it as we would have liked and as we were used to. I would have liked to have noted this situation promptly, but the service person did not react to my signals; they were more busy folding napkins, looking at their cell phones or at the table at the most inopportune moments (when 3 adults have their mouths full). Right to look. When we then asked for a fourth napkin for our daughter, who had eaten her own children's meal, it was "slammed" on the table like frozen herb butter with a "please". (The service person's mood was almost icy) But the climax came when we were asked again about our satisfaction when paying and we finally said without a full mouth that our enjoyment had been spoiled by the frozen herb butter. The service person got really mushy and said we could also talk to her normally . I did... it's just funny that the others at the table found the wording of the complaint very friendly. To be honest, I am extremely disappointed with the service this evening and am really wondering whether our upcoming family celebration with small children makes sense at all in this location.

Hidden away in an idyllic, very nice restaurant in a half-timbered house, with a small chapel in front of it. Not a very large selection of dishes but very tasty.

Nice location in the forest with its own parking space in a half-timbered house. Fast and very friendly service. About the food: There was a special menu on Sundays with many interesting dishes. At the end there was also a special menu with delicious small desserts. The restaurant is highly recommended and is certainly pleasant in the shady beer garden on sunny days.

The evening with the family there was simply lovely. We felt very comfortable. The service was very quick, super attentive and friendly. The food was really tasty and the portions were very generous. We're really looking forward to the beer garden in the summer, but we'll definitely stop by again first! :)

Schöne gelegenes Restaurant. Essen und Service waren sehr gut.

Essen war sehr teuer – für eine eher trockene und geschmacklich schwache Entenbrust. Essen war jedoch schön angerichtet, aber bringt nichts wenn’s nicht schmeckt. Nachtisch war auch einfallslos und das Angebotene sehr einfach. Hauptsächlich kann man vorgefertigte Mövenpick Eisdeserts bestellen (wirklich aus dem Mövenpick häftchen) und vorbereitete Einmachgläser. Wer 34€ für eine trockene Gänsebrust nimmt, sollte dann auch beim Dessert etwas mehr bieten, meiner Meinung nach. Sonst war der Service top und das Ambiente sehr nett. Würde es nicht empfehlen.

Sichtlich unerfahrene Bedienung, Getränkekarte musste erst angefordert werden. Das Essen kam sehr schnell und hätte wärmer sein können. Für den Preis, hätte ich mir etwas mehr Qualität und Ruhe im Ablauf gewünscht. Die Frage nach einem Dessert blieb dann auch aus. Im Sommer im Biergarten sicherlich zu empfehlen. Im Dezember im Weihnachtsgeschäft sicher nicht.

Wir sind erneut positiv überrascht worden. Nach unserem letzten Besuch im Sommer (im Biergarten) waren wir heute erneut in dem tollen Fachwerkhaus "Zur Kluse" mit unserer Familie zum Abendessen. Die freundliche Mitarbeiterin im Service hat uns nett begrüßt und uns zu unserem Tisch begleitet. Die Speisen sind ausreichend und lecker. Das Preis/ Leistungsverhältnis stimmt. Wir kommen mit Sicherheit gerne wieder und können das Lokal nur weiterempfehlen! Danke für den tollen Abend:)

Überzogene Preise und ein sehr miesen miesen service

Der Empfang in traumhaftem Ambiente war nett und zuvorkommend. Man geleitete uns in die obere Etage, die weihnachtlich geschmückt war. Wir fühlten uns sofort wohl. Die Bedienung ließ nicht lange auf sich warten. Die Speisekarte war edel gestaltet und vielfältig. Wir haben schnell etwas gefunden. Es war ein kulinarisches Erlebnis bei guter Weinbegleitung. Auch unsere Lieben waren von der Kluse begeistert. Wir bedankten uns ausdrücklich bei der Bedienung und kommen gerne wieder.

Haben unsere Jährliche Gans dieses Mal dort gegessen. Geschmacklich war die Gans, Rotkohl usw. hervorragend. Doch für den Preis hätte es ruhig etwas mehr sein können was auf den Teller liegt. Als wir wieder zuhause waren mußten wir noch ein Brot essen um satt zu sein. Bei 100 Euro für zwei Personen hätten es ruhig 3 Klöße sein können. Die Bedienung was sehr nett.

The historic house and the small chapel aside are very nice, and everything is surrounded by a forest. But the food was not that special, neither the local beer!

Sehr nettes Lokal mit grüner Umgebung. Bei Wanderungen ein interessanter Zwischenstop. Müssen den großen Biergarten im Sommer auch noch besuchen.

Sehr schönes Ambiente. Leckeres Essen. Auch mit Kindern gar kein Problem

Wir waren hier mit Freunden zum Gänseessen. Das Ambiente ist sehr schön und gemütlich. Gerade zur dunklen Jahreszeit ist es hier innen und außen sehr ansprechend. Geschmacklich war die Gans sehr gut, allerdings für 38 Euro in einer überschaubaren Portion serviert. Leider waren die Kartoffelknödel bei einigen Portionen in der Mitte noch nicht ganz durch. Die angebotenen Nachspeisen waren durchschnittlich. Für 10 Euro ein einfaches Gläschen ohne Unterteller oder ein wenig Deko, ist für mich nicht angemessen. Der Service war präsent, allerdings wohl so stark beschäftigt, dass die Freundlichkeit ein wenig litt. Schade, da ein wenig Herzlichkeit und Witz den Besuch positiv abgerundet hätte. Aber gut, Personalknappheit in der Gesatronomie lässt grüßen.

Essen sehr lecker. Für mich passt nur der Preis mit der Menge auf den Teller nicht zusammen. Für mich überteuert. Alles andere stimmt. Ambiente sehr ansprechend. Bedienung nett.

Wunderschönes, leicht unscheinbares Restaurant im Wald. Uns hat der Besuch hier vor allem aufgrund der sehr netten Bedienung und des Ambientes gefallen, obwohl wir nur einen Kaffee bestellten. Beachtet den kleinen Geocache in der Nähe :)
