Here you can find good food and an intimate and warm atmosphere, the numerous paintings will make you feel like you are in an art gallery. Here they offer Dunkel beer which is really good. If you want a typical Schnitzle, Haus Großjung offers numerous combinations to try! Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Very interesting account!

Großjung has new owners who are planning changes to the beer garden. Let's hope that the interventions don't damage the ambience too much.

Wonderful beer garden directly on the Ruhr. We only had drinks. Unpleasant surprise when paying: With an EC card only from 20.00 euros - but luckily there was the option of paying via Paypal via a private Yahoo address. Nice!

We celebrated our birthdays in Haus Grossjung in September 2024 with 56 guests. The champagne reception, the buffet with main courses and desserts and the location and service were very good. We were very satisfied and would like to thank the Haus Grossjung team for a very nice evening.

After a walk along the Ruhr we actually just went for a drink in the beautiful beer garden, but then the mixed starter platter for 2 people on the menu appealed to us, just the right thing for a small lunchtime snack, the freshly prepared mixture of cold and warm was perfect simple, reasonable for 20€, we always like to come here.

Extremely courteous service, ambience 10 out of 10. Everything was to our complete satisfaction. ♡

We ate the Schnitzel Trio, although we personally liked the Paprika Sause best. It was a decent portion and the schnitzels weren't dry either 👌🏼 we also had the pasta with spinach and turkey. This tasted great too! The service was very friendly ♥️ we would be happy to come back.

Today we ate at Haus Grossjung for the first time with 4 people and were very impressed by the ambience and, above all, the food, as well as the beautiful beer garden. We went here on the recommendation of the campsite caretaker on our arrival day. The beer garden is beautifully landscaped and large enough for 40-50 guests. The service was friendly and attentive. We regularly asked whether everything was OK or whether we would like anything else. That was pleasant, but not annoying. You can tell from the food here that the chef enjoys his job. Everything was lovingly prepared and very tasty. The Alster, which was mixed here with Fanta, was also perfect on this hot day. For dessert there was a fantastic soufflé. The prices are okay, especially for the quality offered. The two of us paid around €70 including tips for drinks, food and dessert. We'd love to come back when we're here again.

Tender lamb, perfect beef carpaccio, wonderful shrimp and the freshest salad, dressing perfectly coordinated! The food was a pleasure, everything was fresh and made with love! We've come here a few times and are always impressed!! Only recommended!

Yesterday after our arrival at the Ruhrcamping we stopped in for dinner. Great restaurant with a beer garden, a good menu (where everyone will find something) and nice service. The food was very tasty and sufficient.

We were there yesterday and were pretty disappointed. The starter platter for 2 was quite disappointing and no comparison to the previous offering. The young man seemed a bit overwhelmed with the service.

Update 7.8.24 Turkey with champion sauce. Whole 2 champions in the sauce is an absolute cheek. It's a really nice beer garden but the service is really terrible. Some of the girls who work there are super unfriendly and seem very arrogant. You wait over 20 minutes before you can place a drink order, and it takes another 10-15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. Food tasted so-so and yes, price-performance ratio - rather unsatisfactory!

Were there today. One star is still too many. No comparison with the previous operator. Price and performance don't match. No credit card payment possible without appropriate notice. We won't be coming back.

The food was good, reasonably priced, a bit upscale, but not too expensive, reasonable price-performance ratio! That day I was sitting in the beer garden and a few idiots said that even though I was outside and at least 10 meters away, it bothered them when I vaped my medical cannabis capsule! Cannabis is a medicine, not a poison like nicotine, nicotine smokers are tolerated, although as a sick person I can't tolerate nicotine, I won't say anything because it's in the open air, actually you should keep this neurotoxin away from a bar or beer garden keep, and not ban customers from vaping medicinal herbs, if poisons such as nicotine are still allowed, and the poison alcohol is drunk and sold in front of children, which is apparently completely normal, despite the fact that both are deadly neurotoxins from which tens of thousands of people die every year! As I said, the food was good, but I will remember this experience and will see if I eat there again, for the unpleasant treatment, albeit due to an alleged complaint from stupidly grinning smokers sitting far away, in my opinion, Unfortunately there is a 3 star deduction! The quality of the food and the price were good and reasonable, I thought the waiter's apology was good if I was really honest, so 5 stars for that and the friendliness! It was stupid to have to get up and then go to the front of the bar like a criminal just to vape my medicine, especially I was 40 cm further to the right behind the fence than where I was actually sitting! There is a lot of room for improvement, other restaurants react differently, I felt uncomfortable, despite the apology and the good food for around €60 with drinks for 2!

I loved this restaurant. Because it is hidden in Essen directly on the Ruhr. Cozy atmosphere, great food and service in the upper middle class. But now after the change of ownership we were very disappointed. The atmosphere is no longer what it used to be. Dirty window sills right at the table (even my child noticed). The service was ok and the size and taste of the food was reduced. It was positive that card payments are now possible. It's a shame, it's the last time for us and at a really stylish location with potential.

After the new takeover there is no comparison to before! No more atmosphere, the usual great food with a Mediterranean selection was not retained. Accordingly, few guests! Inattentive service, a shame for this beautifully located restaurant on the Ruhr with previously very many regular guests!

Went to the Großjung house today on a short bike ride for two, we forgot two drinks, we even had to remind them twice, the starter came 20 minutes after the children's meal. It was also full but the two waiters were overwhelming but really nice. However, food is very expensive.

The food was very good and arrived quickly. The service was friendly and accommodating. Only a little more could be done for the ambience in the outdoor area, i.e. table decorations e.g. a lantern and/or flowers on the table, a few beautiful plants around it, sweeping away leaves, fairy lights in the trees, etc. :-)

We stayed in the beer garden. You can sit there under large trees and enjoy the proximity of the Ruhr. Everyone (4 people) enjoyed the food very much. However, the portions could have been a little larger.

We used to be frequent guests at the Großjung house. After the closure and current reopening with a new owner, we were back in the beer garden for the first time. Visually not much has changed, apart from the tables placed on the extension. We only had drinks, so we can't comment on the quality of the food. The dishes at the neighboring tables smelled very tasty and also looked appetizing. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to service. The beer garden was only moderately to sparsely occupied. Nevertheless, the waiter didn't feel obliged to wipe the tables or empty the ashtrays. When this was asked at the next table, he shuffled away complaining and then came back with a greasy rag and very superficially wiped the table. When paying he couldn't remember which drinks we had... Training the staff and a lantern or flowers on the (then hopefully clean) table could do wonders for the ambience and service.

The service is rather helpless and clueless. The food was good and sufficient. The real drama is that it's best to pay with cash, as cards don't work.

I really enjoyed the food I had (Wiener Schnitzel). The portion was quite decent. The service was nice and friendly, but sometimes we didn't show up for a long time, otherwise we would certainly have drunk more. I also liked the facility. There was a TV there showing the European Championships, but it still didn't bother us. We'll definitely come back

Visited during a bike tour on the Ruhr. The gastronomy with a spacious outdoor area is idyllically located on the northern bank of the Ruhr. We tried cheesecake and iced coffee, which were very average. The service staff is friendly, serves quickly, but is puzzled about the prices of their own offerings, for example. But the price-performance ratio was still ok. Outside, the tables under the trees could be kept a little cleaner. The sanitary facilities, however, were impeccable.

How should I begin, I received a warm welcome, we sat down and a nice young man was right there with us, he handed us the cards and even recommended things to us. I ordered a starter plate that was top top top and I had spaghetti prawns as the main course like in Italy filled so mine Conclusion: the restaurant was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to, respect to the employees and the boss.

The waitresses were very nice. Drinks came within 2 minutes and food came very quickly too. It looked great, really freshly prepared and tasted great too. Price performance really top.

Despite repeated requests for fresh mushrooms in the champion cream sauce and the express wish to have a different dish if the mushrooms were not fresh, the schnitzel was delivered with canned mushrooms. Didn't quite correspond to expectations... but hey, cheers to the good know-how of the service staff 🤘🏻 Ambiance isn't everything 😉

Lousy food at high prices. Instead of chicken schnitzel, turkey was simply served, the "pepper sauce" was inedible, the rump steak was tiny and not medium fried as requested. Mushrooms not fresh but canned, even though they were specifically asked for beforehand. Better avoid!

Very nice restaurant, located right next to the Ruhr with a nice outdoor terrace. We were only there for coffee and waffles, but we were able to convince ourselves of the other guests' good selection of food. Will definitely come back soon.

During a stop on a bike tour from Herne to the Ruhr, Haus Großjung with its beer garden lined with large trees was a welcome place to rest. The location right on the Ruhr Bridge is great. Service and cake (very fresh, still a little warm) excellent.

After a long time of ignoring you, we were served just before we wanted to leave, but it would have been better if we left. At least the food was expensive because it didn't taste good

Very friendly staff with a warm welcome. We ordered 1x small portion of liver with mashed potatoes and apple slices and braised onions. My wife had potato pancakes with salmon. Both eat in small portions. The food was very tasty, the puree was refined with a little curry. Price and performance match. The house should be beautified. There are no flowers, the tables in the upper area should not be left so bare, place mats, place a small vase with a flower or a pot with spices such as rosemary or something similar. Advantage chef always has fresh herbs. My conclusion here is that you become a repeat offender.

After the change of ownership, nothing is as beautiful as before. Some of the food is inedible. The special ambience that defined the rooms has largely disappeared. I am very disappointed.

Nice, rustic restaurant, located directly at the swimming bridge on the Ruhr in Horst. The food is very good. Fresh seasonal vegetables. The meat is fried to perfection. Lots of sauces to choose from. There were seven of us and all the food was served almost at the same time. The service is top. The staff very nice. The price-performance ratio is also okay. I'm looking forward to better weather because the outside area is also neat and clean. There are also dishes for small appetites. I'm pleased that this "cult restaurant" has now reopened and that there is once again an alternative to Krone here in Horst

No more prawns in stock, no baguette/bread/toast could be offered with the feta starter, unfortunately you had to wait a long time for drinks and only got them when you asked, the pepper sauce was sour, the portions were much too small. Price-performance not ok! Service borderline! A pity...

Today we had a breakfast buffet with many other sports girls - really great! The food was replenished quickly, everything was fresh, a very varied buffet and the friendly service was always on hand! It's a shame that the restaurant no longer runs with this crew 😩

Good price/performance ratio. The food is good, the service is good and the atmosphere is cozy. The location directly on the Ruhr and the Ruhr Valley cycle path. Always a good recommendation for cyclists to take a break and strengthen themselves.

Wir haben uns an den schönen Nachmittag draußen hin gesetzt und uns an der Getränke Karte draußen orientiert, da wir nach einem langen Spaziergang noch was trinken wollten mit mehreren leuten. Als wir dann später zahlen wollten hat uns der Schlag getroffen. Man sachte uns das draußen die Karte nicht mehr aktuell sei, was eine Sauerei ist. Der Preis unterschied zwischen Karte draußen und den Preisen die aktuell sind liegt bei dem Landbier bei 1,20€. Insgesamt für ein 0,5l Landbier was dem Preis nicht gerechtfertigt wird stolze 5,80€. Viel zu überteuert. Nicht empfehlenswert.

Ein sehr schöner Ort zum Genießen und Entspannen. Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Bedienung super nett. Vielen Dank! Ein paar Schritte laufen und man hat einen super Ausblick.

Ein Mittags - Stop auf meiner Radtour von Steele nach Hattingen. Habe im Biergarten Platz genommen. Sehr aufmerksamer Service, sehr schnelle Aufnahme der Bestellung, sehr sehr leckeres Essen bekommen. 👍👍👍 Das Lokal an der Ruhrbrücke zwischen Horst und Überruhr kann ich bestens empfehlen 👍👍👍.

Wir waren nach einer ausgiebigen Kanutour hier im Biergarten, die Bedienung war überaus höflich, der Service prompt und unkompliziert und das Essen war frisch, heiß und sehr lecker. Eine angenehme Überraschung, die etwas versteckt liegt, wo man aber durchaus nach Fahrrad- oder Paddeltour einkehren kann und es sich gut gehen lassen kann! Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!

Sehr unfreundliches Personal. Plumpe Fragen und slang. Machen Druck, dass man was essen oder trinken soll oder gehen sollte und hingewiesen, dass man die Sitzplätze auf der Brücke nehmen soll, obwohl man reserviert hatte. Schöne Gegend, aber sehr bitterer Beigeschmack.

Gerne zum Essen oder ein Getränk nach der Radtour - beides kann sehr gut im Biergarten genossen werden.

Essen sehr lecker (Hähnchenbrust Haus Großjung). Gemütlich. Sehr guter Service. (Herren)Toilette etwas altbacken aber sehr sauber und richtig eingerichtet. Alles in allem empfehlenswert und gerne wieder

Außergewöhnlich gemütlich im historischen Ambiente. Von Nachbarn und Freunden wurde und das Lokal empfohlen und unsere Besuche konnten diese Erfahrungen bestätigen. Das Essen wurde zügig, freundlich und sorgfältig zubereitet geliefert. Uns wurde eine Speise empfohlen (hausgemachte Chips mit Aioli) welche aber leider nicht mehr auf der Speisekarte standen. Vielleicht ein andermal? Wir haben unseren Besuch sehr genossen.

War leider nur im Biergarten und hier war die Atmosphäre sehr gut. Leckere Speisen und freundliche Bedienung.
