We went with some friends on Wednesday for Schnitzel Day and on Thursday for Roast Day, both all-you-can-eat. Both were absolutely delicious, and the selection of meat and vegetables was fantastic. Everything tasted great and was freshly prepared. The service was also excellent—very friendly, competent, and attentive. I highly recommend it.

While perusing the menu, some of us decided to order something else. From schnitzel to rump steak to the actual goose menu, we can say it was absolutely delicious. The service was first-class, incredibly attentive and friendly. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

We were very impressed with our first stop at the Schwarzer Ochsen (Black Ox) restaurant. The lovely, cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food provided a wonderful end to our day of hiking. Unfortunately, there are far too few restaurants like this in the Odenwald.

Since a friend of mine had often raved about the schnitzel buffet, we tried the buffet with the "favorites." The salad bar was okay, but the variety of main courses was unfortunately limited, and several advertised items, such as homemade dumplings, were missing. Instead, there were pre-made croquettes, spaetzle, and rather bland vegetables. A shame, especially since the sauces could have used a bit more salt and seasoning. Two of the three roasts were dry, even when sitting in their own sauce. The included cake would have been a pleasant surprise if it hadn't been (apart from the soggy crumble topping) extremely dry and sour. The atmosphere is lovely and very homey, the service friendly and attentive, but the food was unfortunately disappointing. For the not-so-cheap price, therefore, more like 2 than 3 stars... Okay, after the restaurant's response, another star deducted, because the flyer didn't mention any examples, and anyone who criticizes the customer for poor grammar instead of addressing their obviously faulty storage and preparation (after all, other restaurants manage to keep the crumble crisp and the meat juicy) doesn't deserve any bonus for service/customer relations.

We had a very good schnitzel with various sauces at the buffet. There was also a large salad bar. Everything was perfect here. I'd be happy to go back.

A beautiful old and surprisingly spacious inn. A great outdoor area, even with a covered play area for children. It's cozy inside, if a bit dark. The menu offers the usual family favorites: spaetzle and nuggets for the little ones, schnitzel and burgers for the grown-ups. Meatless options are also available. I thought it was great!

Yesterday, Saturday, we spontaneously decided to have something to eat a little later than usual...when I walked into the restaurant to ask if they had any space...it was 9:05 p.m....I was very surprised...there was nothing left to eat, the kitchen was closed...apart from one table in the next room, the restaurant was empty and the tables had already been set for the next day....when I asked if we could have another beer, I was very brusquely told, "No, we're closing right away!" If you don't want to make money, you have to do exactly this...I won't be going back to that restaurant any time soon!

Unfortunately, the new menu no longer allows you to order snacks. You can only choose what the menu says. Let's see if that's the right approach...

Surprising experience, cozy interior, perfect menu size - there was a good selection, but rather few (but good) dishes, top service

We went to the Schwarzer Ochsen for our first schnitzel evening today and were pleasantly surprised. The buffet was very appealing and delicious, and the service was very friendly. Since the restaurant was very busy, it was quite noisy at times.

Super delicious food, extremely friendly staff, and a truly lovely atmosphere. We were there on Wednesday for the schnitzel buffet; everything was truly incredible. Unfortunately, the side dishes like kohlrabi, pumpkin, and Brussels sprouts were so delicious that we barely had time to eat the schnitzel. The cheese and sauces are all great, too. I definitely recommend it! We'll be back again and again.

It was a truly lovely evening. The food was, as usual, very good, the service was fantastic and on the ball, and the atmosphere was rustic.

We happened to be here by chance. We were in the beer garden. The two waiters, a young woman and a young man, were very friendly, very obliging, and handled our questions and requests very well. The time between ordering and delivery was very short. We immediately added this address to our navigation system and our personal address book.

We wanted to stop there on a Sunday after a bike ride. At 7:40 p.m., they said there was nothing left to eat because the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. There were about four tables left in the courtyard, some of which still had no food. I understand that if you come after 8 p.m., you won't get anything to eat, but before that, I think it's very, very weak. We then went to another restaurant, which also only had the kitchen open until 8 p.m. Of course, we still got something there. Note on the owner's comment: The waitress didn't tell us that the kitchen was about to close and that we had to hurry with our orders. Instead, the waitress said there was nothing left because the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. and the other dishes from the other tables weren't out yet. She simply pointed out to us that only drinks were available. But we had already been sitting at the table for five minutes, and the first waitress didn't even notice us. I've been working in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. And I've never experienced anything like this before: turning guests away before the kitchen closes. We're grateful for every guest who visits our restaurants and bars, especially these days. Of course, I also understand that we need the staff to do this. But I think every member of staff understands that they sometimes have to work a few minutes longer to serve guests whose visits keep the restaurant running and ensure that their salaries can be paid at the end of the month. I wish you all the best for the future.

We were there for the second time...the sweet Mediterranean ambiance in the backyard was a hit with us right away. The waitresses are also very nice...despite the extreme stress, they are very friendly and always have a smile on their faces. The food was delicious again this time. Highly recommended 👍

Very pleasant atmosphere, the waitresses are dedicated to giving their best in every situation and making us happy as guests! Especially remarkable given the current temperatures. The food is delicious, and the burgers are my personal highlight. You don't have to wait long for your food, and it's always brought warm and fresh. I'm always happy to come back :D

We moved to Sulzbach a while ago, and it's clear that Ochse has a monopoly in the area. We've ordered there once so far, and the burgers and fries were excellent. The second time, our order was declined due to overbooking (during the week). We actually found that a shame, as it was my wife's birthday. Since ordering is also advertised on the website, it should always be possible, regardless of the day's capacity.

Last night (8:15 p.m.) we entered this restaurant. As we sat down, a waitress rushed over and informed us that the kitchen was closed. That fact alone wasn't the problem. What was very odd, however, was the tone and manner of address. It's all in the tone of voice. Restaurant owners often complain about a lack of customers, but that's no surprise. We'll never go back to this place, and I can't recommend it. It's a shame, because we were really looking forward to it.

We visited the Black Ox on July 13, 2025. What can I say, it was the last time we went there. The atmosphere and service were top-notch (although extra help is definitely needed). We also had a nice seat under the kiwis. Now for the food. Paprika schnitzel that had been warmed up in the deep fryer and was consequently extremely dry. The sauce was an indefinable mush of tomato puree and a couple of peppers from a jar. The fries were okay, the salad edible. All in all, the price-performance ratio is not right, which was very disappointing as we had always eaten well there in the past. What a shame.

Two of us spontaneously stopped by the Schwarzer Ochsen in Sulzbach on a Sunday at around 1:30 p.m. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic ambiance and was overall very clean and inviting. The food was well presented. My schnitzel was a decent portion size, but the cordon bleu could have been a bit larger for our taste. Both dishes were solid in terms of taste. Service was provided by a very young waitress who was obviously still being trained. She was friendly and attentive. Overall, a pleasant visit for a down-to-earth lunch in a pleasant atmosphere.

It was our first time staying with the Rettich family. We were very satisfied. Highly recommended.

So, first of all, I'd like to say that my review isn't based on bad food, ambiance, or anything like that. Quite the opposite: the food is great. However, humanity is very low in the management department, and I can only advise anyone planning a celebration or wedding here to get a contract, read the fine print, and think carefully about whether you want to get married or celebrate here. If, for reasons yet to be determined, you have to postpone or cancel the celebration, and everyone knows that can happen quickly, your €500 deposit is simply gone. Compromises are only offered in favor of the company. (If someone else celebrates on the same day with the same size, the deposit can be refunded.) The day of the cancellation was 9-10 months earlier, so the previous planning effort for the celebration was a maximum of 2x working hours. Well, you don't learn from that, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for the company to lose customers. P.S. My fiancée also left a review here and was rejected by the Management very concerned about reputational damage and the like, dear Ms. Z, affected dogs usually bark, as you can see in this case, you alone are responsible for the reputational damage. We have a complete history of all discussions which shows that the agreements are solely in favor of the company and, another thing: a Google review is used to communicate positive and negative experiences, which is what we have done here. There is nothing reprehensible about it, but your reaction alone shows that affected dogs usually bark. I hope you rethink your approach in future so that you do less damage to your own business.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Unfortunately, very disappointing – no cooperation or communication whatsoever We had to cancel our wedding reception, planned for September 13, 2025, at the Zum Schwarzen Ochsen restaurant, early in December 2024 for personal reasons – more than 10 months in advance. There was no written contract, but we had paid a deposit of €500 for the reservation. This has not been refunded to this day – even though no compensation was paid. We tried several times to find a fair, out-of-court solution – supported by a lawyer from our legal expenses insurance and the Federal Universal Arbitration Board. Unfortunately, all our requests were ignored for months – both in writing via email and in a personal meeting with Ms. Ziegler on site. A clarifying conversation or even a call back: none. Ms. Ziegler also named the alleged managing director, Mr. Schmerreim, as a contact person – even though, according to the commercial register, he is no longer listed as a managing director (the arbitration board also confirmed this in writing). Nevertheless, we contacted Mr. Schmerreim directly on May 9, 2025 – again, no response. We are extremely disappointed by the disrespectful and ignorant treatment of us as customers. No offer of a partial refund, no voucher – instead, silence and responsibility being passed back and forth. This is no way to treat customers, especially not on such an important occasion as a wedding.

We celebrated our wedding in the ballroom at the weekend and are so happy that we chose the Zum Schwarzen Ochsen. The food was super tasty, the service was very quick and extremely attentive. Very child-friendly and very helpful with all questions and preparations. The space is beautiful with old charm. We are super happy and can wholeheartedly recommend celebrating there.

A visit to the Zum schwarzen Ochsen restaurant is a culinary experience that impresses above all with its excellent cuisine. The dishes are not only of a high standard in terms of taste, but also very generous in their portion sizes – there's something for everyone here. The restaurant's ambiance is somewhat quaint, with a rustic charm that nevertheless creates a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. You immediately feel welcome and in good hands. The service deserves special praise: The staff is attentive, friendly, and always on hand, without being intrusive. You can tell that the work here is done with passion. One small drawback is the sanitary situation – the restrooms are not located in the same building, but across the courtyard. This can be a bit unpleasant, especially in bad weather. Nevertheless, this circumstance only minimally detracts from the overall very positive impression. In conclusion: A visit is definitely worth it – for the food, the service, and the cozy atmosphere. If you can overlook the short walk to the restrooms, you'll be completely satisfied.

Schnitzel really good, hand cheese nicely presented, but unfortunately rock hard and not particularly tasty - it's hard to imagine that the "regulars" like it that much. Service was very friendly, but you wait in vain for ketchup. Therefore only 3 out of 5 stars. Too bad. We'll still come back.

We were there spontaneously (without reservation) with 4 adults and 4 children. The restaurant made special rearrangements to be able to offer us a table. The ambience was simply fantastic, with lots of lovely details that created a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and they took special care of the children, which we really appreciated. The food was excellent – ​​every dish was freshly prepared and tasted a highlight. We were particularly impressed by the variety of dishes and the quality of the ingredients. The value for money was also very good, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Another plus point is the authenticity of the restaurant. Everything, from the decor to the food to the service, was consistent and authentic. We felt completely comfortable and will definitely come back. A little tip: Be sure to reserve by phone in advance, as the restaurant is very busy. This is a clear sign of the high quality and popularity of the restaurant.

On December 25, 2024, we had, among other things, two of the dumpling trilogy: the dumplings were only lukewarm and cold, the leaf salad (lamb's lettuce) wasn't fresh, and one dish was missing port wine onions! The dishes weren't visually appealing! We also had two Grandma's beef roulades. The meat in the roulades was very tough (normally, roulade meat melts in your mouth). We also ordered one of the tender goose leg. The term "tough goose leg" would have been more appropriate! We were very disappointed with the food. We can't recommend this restaurant!!! The atmosphere is cold and uncomfortable – it resembles the waiting room of an old train station!

We celebrated our wedding here and can recommend everyone to do the same. The service was perfect, the food was very, very tasty and (small) children were also catered for with an extra play area, diapers and wet wipes at the changing table. We'd love to come back :)

The food was actually quite okay. Except for the schnitzel... it smelled sour and tasted bitter. Unfortunately the cook was already off work at 8 p.m. I declined the offered pizza as a replacement. The schnitzel wasn't charged for but it wasn't particularly friendly anymore.

Were there for Easter brunch. The buffet was plentiful, sausage, cheese, ham, various types of bread, croissants, baked bunnies, various types of rolls, jam, Nutella, small pancakes with maple syrup, homemade Bircher muesli, fruit, yoghurt...

It was our first and last time there. The rump steak was dry and tough. The homemade one Kochkäs was a greasy mush that tasted sour, as if it had already been passed over. The spaetzle were knöpfle that were so greasy and hard as if they had been baked in the pan many times. There was no trace of friendliness in the service. For 70 euros (which we spent) you can probably expect quality. Never again

Waren zum ersten Mal da aber auch zum letzten Mal. Das Rumpsteak war eine Katastrophe, ich habe noch nie so ein schlechtes Rumpsteak gegessen. Meine Frau hatte ein Schnitzel mit Kochkäse. Der Kochkäse schmeckte säuerlich als ob er schlecht war. Die Spätzle waren gebackene Knöpfle die schmeckten als wenn sie zum xten mal in der Pfanne aufgewärmt wurden. Zum Abschluss noch die Toiletten über den Hof in ein kleines Häuschen das nicht beheizt wird. Für 70 Euro kann man mehr erwarten.

Great ambience! The cook had an appointment and the only thing that could be ordered was food from the pizzeria next door. No problem at first…the taste is fine. In terms of price...the prices on the menu (pizzeria) were not valid, but rather the in-house prices. With this strategy you lose customers instead of gaining new ones.

We became aware of this restaurant in the north of Weinheim through the Schlemmerblock. On a Saturday evening, the two of us got a table without a reservation at around 7 p.m. However, according to previous reviews, it's better to make a reservation as it can get crowded. About the ambience: very tasteful, a mix of rustic and modern. Nice decoration on the windows. The food was undoubtedly the highlight. My companion has never eaten such a good barbecue burger. The salad bowl with chicken skewers also scored points; The dressing was particularly tasty. Unfortunately there was no dessert. Nevertheless, the range of dishes on offer is very extensive overall, so that everyone will find something to suit them. There's even pizza on the menu. The prices are a bit high, but quite reasonable considering the high quality. The sanitary facilities (very modern) are, somewhat unusually, in another building on the opposite side in the inner courtyard. You just have to hope that it doesn't rain when you have to. Unfortunately, we only realized afterwards that we had been overcharged. The waitress just handed us her small tablet device and told us the final price, but didn't give us a paper bill. Update: The receipt has now been emailed to me. It was because some prices on the online menu were no longer current. We learned from this: Always ask for a paper invoice and check it briefly before paying.

Urige Location & großer Biergarten. Bisher immer tolles Essen @15.10.23: Leider heute harte Bratkartoffeln mit viel zu viel Rosmarin. Außerdem war die Rahmsoße vom Schnitzel total dünn und schmeckte künstlich. Hoffentlich wird’s wieder besser🤔

Die Qualität und die Auswahl des Essens hat nachgelassen. Viele Pizzen. Ausserdem war der obere Bereich vom Biergarten für die Gäste geschlossen und das bei dem super Wetter.

Wir hatten dort unser Klassentreffen im großen Saal und es hat mir gut gefallen. Essen sehr gut, Service optimal. Was nicht so gut war, zum Ende des Treffens war mir kalt im Saal.

Gestern Abend konnten wir uns von der netten Atmosphäre im Innenhof des Zum Schwarzen Ochsen überzeugen. Die Bedienung war freundlich und auf Zack. Das Biergartenfeeling ist sehr angenehm und das System mit dem Getränkeausschank gut durchdacht. Das Essen kam nach nur wenig Wartezeit, die man gut gut damit verbringen kann, sich den Hof anzuschauen. Beide Gerichte waren sehr lecker und die Beilagen überaus reichlich. Ebenso war der Salat frisch und geschmacklich super. Auch auf Sonderwünsche wird eingegangen. Die Parkplatzsituation ist allerdings, da an der Hauptstraße gelegen, etwas schwierig.

Sehr schönes Ambiente und freundliche Bedienungen! Essen war OK. Portionen ausreichend, aber die Qualität ist verbesserungswürdig. Das Grillgemüse war nur lauwarm, und die "scharfe Paprikasauce" bei den Grillpfännchen schmeckte leider original wie der Salsa-Nacho-Dip aus dem Supermarkt. Hat einfach nicht so richtig gepasst. Ebenso die Knoblauch-Kräuter-Sauce bei den Peperoni. Vielleicht hatten wir einfach nur bisschen Pech an dem Tag.

Wir haben hier die Abschlussfeier des Sportvereins gefeiert. Die umgebaute Scheuer ist klasse für geschlossene Gesellschaften. Der großzügig Hof vor der Scheuer bietet außerdem Kindern die Möglichkeit zum toben und spielen, damit wir Eltern unsere wohlverdiente Ruhe beim Essen haben. Der Service war gut und hat hervorragend geklappt trotz der großen Anzahl an Gästen in unserer Gruppe. Das Ambiente in der Scheuer und dem Hof ist echt toll und bietet auch im Sommer Schatten zum ausgiebigen Feiern und Schlemmen. Diese Qualität der Speisen war hervorragend. Besonders die mega leckeren frisch zubereiteten glutenfreie Pizzen sind hierbei besonders hervorzuheben. Der schwarze Ochse ist auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert, vor allem bei gutem Wetter im Biergarten.

Sehr schöne gemütliche Stube für Kalte Tage und ein sehr schöner Biergarten für den Sommer. Zudem extrem freundliches, aufmerksames und schnelles Personal. Essen ist geschmacklich und von den Portionsgrößen sehr gut. Preislich absolut fair. Zudem mit Mikes Pizza noch einen der besten Pizzaslieferdienste in der Umgebung ( Die Pizza schmeckt fantastisch!)

Uriges Gasthaus mit schönem Biergarten und üppigen deutschen Speisen

Das Essen war sehr lecker und die Bedienung sehr sehr freundlich und aufmerksam. Auch mit Kindern sehr zu empfehlen. Bei der Essensauswahl ist für jeden etwas dabei und das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt auch. Eine Reservierung im Vorfeld ist empfehlenswert, weil dort auch häufiger größere Veranstaltungen (z.B. Hochzeiten) sind.

Früher waren wir mind. einmal die Woche im Biergarten, jetzt gehen wir nicht mehr hin, obwohl nur ein paar Minuten Fussweg. Das Essen ist nicht mehr frisch, sondern alles schmeckt von Gefrierfach in die Friteuse. Schnitzel kleiner und teurer, Pommes extra, Salat extra und schwimmt in Salatsauce. Küche macht zu wenn immer die möchten. Einfach mal ein Bier trinken nach 21 Uhr an einer heißen Sommernacht geht nicht, da entweder geschlossen oder schief angeschaut. Eine Bedienung ist so nett, aber wehe man erwischt die Andere, die steht wohl jeden Tag mit dem falschen Fuss auf. Man fühlt sich nicht willkommen, man möchte sich fast entschuldigen, dass man Gast ist. Mein Tip, endlich mal eine andere, nette Bedienung und wieder frisches Essen, das nicht von Metro geliefert wird. Sehr Schade, da das einzige Restaurant im Dorf

Lecker Essen, freundlich nettes Personal,

Mit Fleisch kennen sie sich sehr gut aus, das Rumpsteak war genau auf dem Punkt wie ich es gerne wollte. Der Salat und die Ofenkartoffel waren sehr gut. Ich war rundum glücklich. Die Getränke die ich hatte waren sehr gut (wenn auch etwas zu viel). Der Service war top, nette Bedienung und gut auf meine Kundenwünsche eingegangen. Das Ambiente ist besser seitdem es (direkt an der Hauptstraße gelegen) 30 statt 50 ist, allerdings ein wenig langweilig und nicht so hell.

Sehr schönes rustikales Ambiente ich mag das sehr. Mein Sohn fand des Essen auch gut und der ist da überaus anspruchsvoll! Un die Mädels die hier am Start sind und den Laden führen sind auch schwer auf Zack :))) ... also Fazit: liebend gerne wieder :)

Na ja, war nicht das gelbe vom Ei. Wir wurden nicht gerade freundlich begrüßt, war wohl schon vor Arbeitsbeginn gestresst. Hat alles etwas länger gedauert, ob wohl kaum Gäste da waren. Das Essen ( bis auf den Salat)war in Ordnung, mehr aber nicht.

Ungeniessbarer Kochkäse auf Pressschnitzel vorfrittiert und ebenso eklig schmeckend. Lediglich gute Pommes waren genießbar. Nie wieder!

Hatten Ofenkartoffel mit Hähnchenstreifen (außer den Hähnchenstreifen war nix genießbar; die Ofenkartoffel noch in recht ursprünglichen Zustand). Bauernfladen und Grünzeug (lt. Karte) na ja. Der Biergarten war ganz nett; leider sehr dunkel. Die Bedienung nahm noch halbvolle Gläser mit. Mit der Entschuldigunng, daß es dunkel sei. Die Bedienung war sehr flapsig. Kein Bitte oder Danke (Service?). Das vorletzte Wort vor Rechnung lautete 'Last Order'. Schlechter Tag? Die Preise sind günstig, was nicht rechtfertigt grottenschlecht zu sein.
