Absolut empfehlenswert – besonders für Familien mit Kindern! Wir haben uns von Anfang an sehr wohlgefühlt. Die Kinderfreundlichkeit wird hier wirklich gelebt und ist nicht nur ein Werbeversprechen. Schon die Kinderspeisekarte war liebevoll gestaltet – auf der Rückseite gab es ein Ausmalbild und die passenden Stifte wurden direkt dazugegeben. Besonders beeindruckt hat uns, dass es im Außenbereich eigentlich ein großes Spielangebot für Kinder gibt. Da das Wetter leider nicht mitgespielt hat, hat das Team kurzerhand Spielzeug nach drinnen gebracht, sodass die Kinder trotzdem beschäftigt waren und Spaß hatten. So viel Engagement erlebt man selten! Auch der Umgang des gesamten Personals mit den Kindern war außergewöhnlich herzlich, aufmerksam und freundlich. Davon können sich viele andere Restaurants wirklich eine Scheibe abschneiden. Das Schnitzelbuffet war ebenfalls hervorragend: eine tolle Auswahl an Schnitzeln, leckeren Salaten und verschiedenen Beilagen – alles frisch und sehr schmackhaft. Wir hatten einen rundum gelungenen Aufenthalt und freuen uns schon darauf, bald wiederzukommen. Vielen Dank an das gesamte Team!

Wir waren nun schon mehrmals beim schwarzen Ochsen essen und fanden es jedes mal spitze! Das Essen ist sehr lecker und man merkt, dass auf frische Zutaten zurückgegriffen wird. Das Highlight des Restaurants sind die Angebotstage, an denen es manchmal ein Schnitzelbuffet, Spargelbuffet oder ähnliches gibt. Auch hier stimmt die Qualität. So möchte ich vor allem das Spargelbuffet loben, das mit seiner Vielfalt und Einzigartigkeit überzeugte. Der Service ist freundlich und schnell. Wir haben uns als Gäste sehr gut aufgehoben gefühlt. Das Ambiente ist rustikal und gemütlich. Im Sommer lädt der naturnahe Biergarten zum Verweilen ein. Wir kommen gerne wieder und empfehlen den schwarzen Ochsen uneingeschränkt weiter. Danke!

Im gemütlichen und schattigen Biergarten auf einen leckeren Burger gefreut…außer lecker und reichlich (200gramm~} das patty, war der Rest ernüchternd: ein farbloses bappiges Brötchen, eine 1!) dünne Scheibe Tomate, eine dünne Scheibe Gewürz Gurke auf einem Blatt Salat. Wie gesagt, Fleisch ok aber Drumherum, enttäuschend und das für 15,90€, ohne Pommes natürlich. Der gemischte Salat: langweiler Blattsalat mit drei bis vier Cocktaitomätchen und 4 Streifen roter Paprika, das leckere Dressing schwamm unten i d Schale….6,10€ !!! Schade, hatte den Ochsen besser in Erinnerung.

Wir waren nun zum 2. Mal hier und auch nicht das letzte Mal. Die "Maultaschenpfanne mit Grillgemüse und Kräuterquark" und auch die "Schwabenpfanne Allgäuer Käsespatzen mit gebratenen Zwiebeln, Schweinelende und Rahmsauce" mega lecker und alles frisch zubereitet. Auch der Service ist freundlich und draußen im Biergarten gibt es sogar einen überdachten Spielbereich für Kinder. Sowohl das Restaurant, als auch der Außenbereich ein schönes Ambiente zum Verweilen.

Das Essen kam innerhalb 10 min an und war einfach Top!! Man wird ganz lieb im Restaurant begrüßt und man fühlt sich einfach wohl. Die Ambiente des Restaurants ist für einen entspannten Vibe geeignet und Ich empfehle jeden von euch den schwarzen Ochsen auszuprobieren

Das Essen ist sehr gut. So gut, dass sich mein Freund, der Käse nie mochte, immer auf das Kochkäseschnitzel hier freut. Der Service ist ebenfalls immer freundlich, und zuvorkommen. Das Ambiente ist schön rustikal und gepflegt. Wirklich Alles passt, wir haben nichts auszusetzen.

Seit langem mal wieder dort gewesen – und es hat sich gelohnt. Heute gab es Schnitzel-Buffet. Die Salatauswahl war top: etwa 6 bis 8 verschiedene Salate, alle sehr appetitlich angerichtet. Dazu standen mehrere Dressings zur Auswahl. Auch bei den Schnitzeln blieb kein Wunsch offen – reichlich Auswahl und für jeden Geschmack etwas dabei. Passende Beilagen gab es ebenfalls genug: Gemüse, Pommes, Spätzle und noch mehr. Preis-Leistung absolut top. Die Bedienung war freundlich, aufmerksam und flott. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder. Was will man mehr?

Wir waren dort zum Schnitzelbuffet. Das gibt es Mittwochs und ab Mai auch Donnerstags (über den Sommer) für 19,90€. Die Schnitzel waren super lecker, sehr zart und reichlich. Es gab sogar verschiedene Variationen und Cordon Bleu. An Beilagen gab es verschiedene unterschiedliche Salate, Spätzle und super leckere Pommes. Es gab 4 Soßen und sogar sehr leckeren Kochkäse. Der Service war super schnell und sehr freundlich. Das Buffet wurde regelmäßig aufgefüllt. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder.

Leider konnte sich nur 1 Person an unserem Tisch ein Schweineschnitzel sichern (Mittwoch = Schnitzelbuffet) und es war erst 18:30 Uhr. Dafür gab es genug Alternativen wie Putenschnitzel und Cordon Bleu, auch Veggie-Schnitzel wird auf Nachfrage extra zubereitet (am besten bei Reservierung schon erwähnen "1 Person vegetarisch" z.B.). Aber auch Kartoffelsalat, Knöpfle, Salat, diverse Saucen und mehr findet man mittwochs beim Buffet. Der Preis ist absolut in Ordnung. Die Räumlichkeiten sind zwar recht klein aber dafür sehr gemütlich und schön eingerichtet. Wir wurden sehr freundlich empfangen und stets gut versorgt (Trinken, Serviette, Wassernapf für Hund usw.). Alles in allem bin ich (bzw. sind wir, 5 Personen) sehr zufrieden und waren inzwischen ein weiteres Mal dort gewesen. Probiert es gerne aus, ich empfehle vorher zu reservieren, was auch online möglich ist.

Wir haben eine too good to go Box abgeholt. Das Essen war sehr lecker und das Personal freundlich. Auf den ersten Blick sah das Ambiente auch sehr angenehm aus.

Schönes urchiges Restaurant mit freundlicher Bedienung, angenehme Atmosphäre und die Kinder haben sofort etwas zum ausmalen gekriegt, was sie auch beschäftigt hat bis das Essen kam. Essen war gut.

Wir waren bereits mehrfach im Restaurant Zum Schwarzen Ochsen in Weinheim und waren jedes Mal sehr zufrieden. Das Essen war durchweg sehr geschmackvoll, frisch zubereitet und von hoher Qualität. Angeboten wird gutbürgerliche Küche, die hervorragend umgesetzt ist. Sowohl Gerichte von der regulären Speisekarte als auch das Essen am Schnitzeltag haben uns ausgesprochen gut geschmeckt. Einziger kleiner Kritikpunkt: Zu Beginn des Abends empfand ich es im Restaurant manchmal als etwas kühl, was sich im Laufe des Abends jedoch deutlich gebessert hat. Insgesamt ein sehr empfehlenswertes Restaurant mit konstant guter Küche, das wir gerne wieder besuchen und uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.

Wir waren mit ein paar Freunden Mittwochs beim Schnitzeltag und Donnerstags beim Bratentag all you can eat. Beides ist super lecker die Auswahl an Fleisch und Gemüse toll. Alles schmeckt sehr gut und ist frisch gemacht. Der Service ist auch top, sehr freundlich kompetent und aufmerksam. Ich kann es nur empfehlen

We visited the Schwarzer Ochsen with our family because of their appealing goose menu. The ambiance is very quaint and rustic, inviting you to linger. While perusing the menu, some of us decided to order something else. From schnitzel to rump steak to the actual goose menu, we can say it was absolutely delicious. The service was first-class, incredibly attentive and friendly. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.

We were very impressed with our first stop at the Schwarzer Ochsen (Black Ox) restaurant. The lovely, cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious food provided a wonderful end to our day of hiking. Unfortunately, there are far too few restaurants like this in the Odenwald.

A lovely place to relax and enjoy yourself. The food is delicious, the service incredibly friendly and attentive. They serve good, traditional German cuisine that I can highly recommend.

Since a friend of mine had often raved about the schnitzel buffet, we tried the buffet with the "favorites." The salad bar was okay, but the variety of main courses was unfortunately limited, and several advertised items, such as homemade dumplings, were missing. Instead, there were pre-made croquettes, spaetzle, and rather bland vegetables. A shame, especially since the sauces could have used a bit more salt and seasoning. Two of the three roasts were dry, even when sitting in their own sauce. The included cake would have been a pleasant surprise if it hadn't been (apart from the soggy crumble topping) extremely dry and sour. The atmosphere is lovely and very homey, the service friendly and attentive, but the food was unfortunately disappointing. For the not-so-cheap price, therefore, more like 2 than 3 stars... Okay, after the restaurant's response, another star deducted, because the flyer didn't mention any examples, and anyone who criticizes the customer for poor grammar instead of addressing their obviously faulty storage and preparation (after all, other restaurants manage to keep the crumble crisp and the meat juicy) doesn't deserve any bonus for service/customer relations.

We had a very good schnitzel with various sauces at the buffet. There was also a large salad bar. Everything was perfect here. I'd be happy to go back.

A beautiful old and surprisingly spacious inn. A great outdoor area, even with a covered play area for children. It's cozy inside, if a bit dark. The menu offers the usual family favorites: spaetzle and nuggets for the little ones, schnitzel and burgers for the grown-ups. Meatless options are also available. I thought it was great!

Yesterday, Saturday, we spontaneously decided to have something to eat a little later than usual...when I walked into the restaurant to ask if they had any space...it was 9:05 p.m....I was very surprised...there was nothing left to eat, the kitchen was closed...apart from one table in the next room, the restaurant was empty and the tables had already been set for the next day....when I asked if we could have another beer, I was very brusquely told, "No, we're closing right away!" If you don't want to make money, you have to do exactly this...I won't be going back to that restaurant any time soon!

Unfortunately, the new menu no longer allows you to order snacks. You can only choose what the menu says. Let's see if that's the right approach...

Surprising experience, cozy interior, perfect menu size - there was a good selection, but rather few (but good) dishes, top service

We went to the Schwarzer Ochsen for our first schnitzel evening today and were pleasantly surprised. The buffet was very appealing and delicious, and the service was very friendly. Since the restaurant was very busy, it was quite noisy at times.

Super delicious food, extremely friendly staff, and a truly lovely atmosphere. We were there on Wednesday for the schnitzel buffet; everything was truly incredible. Unfortunately, the side dishes like kohlrabi, pumpkin, and Brussels sprouts were so delicious that we barely had time to eat the schnitzel. The cheese and sauces are all great, too. I definitely recommend it! We'll be back again and again.

It was a truly lovely evening. The food was, as usual, very good, the service was fantastic and on the ball, and the atmosphere was rustic.

We happened to be here by chance. We were in the beer garden. The two waiters, a young woman and a young man, were very friendly, very obliging, and handled our questions and requests very well. The time between ordering and delivery was very short. We immediately added this address to our navigation system and our personal address book.

We wanted to stop there on a Sunday after a bike ride. At 7:40 p.m., they said there was nothing left to eat because the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. There were about four tables left in the courtyard, some of which still had no food. I understand that if you come after 8 p.m., you won't get anything to eat, but before that, I think it's very, very weak. We then went to another restaurant, which also only had the kitchen open until 8 p.m. Of course, we still got something there. Note on the owner's comment: The waitress didn't tell us that the kitchen was about to close and that we had to hurry with our orders. Instead, the waitress said there was nothing left because the kitchen closes at 8 p.m. and the other dishes from the other tables weren't out yet. She simply pointed out to us that only drinks were available. But we had already been sitting at the table for five minutes, and the first waitress didn't even notice us. I've been working in the restaurant industry for over 20 years. And I've never experienced anything like this before: turning guests away before the kitchen closes. We're grateful for every guest who visits our restaurants and bars, especially these days. Of course, I also understand that we need the staff to do this. But I think every member of staff understands that they sometimes have to work a few minutes longer to serve guests whose visits keep the restaurant running and ensure that their salaries can be paid at the end of the month. I wish you all the best for the future.

We were there for the second time...the sweet Mediterranean ambiance in the backyard was a hit with us right away. The waitresses are also very nice...despite the extreme stress, they are very friendly and always have a smile on their faces. The food was delicious again this time. Highly recommended 👍

Very pleasant atmosphere, the waitresses are dedicated to giving their best in every situation and making us happy as guests! Especially remarkable given the current temperatures. The food is delicious, and the burgers are my personal highlight. You don't have to wait long for your food, and it's always brought warm and fresh. I'm always happy to come back :D

We moved to Sulzbach a while ago, and it's clear that Ochse has a monopoly in the area. We've ordered there once so far, and the burgers and fries were excellent. The second time, our order was declined due to overbooking (during the week). We actually found that a shame, as it was my wife's birthday. Since ordering is also advertised on the website, it should always be possible, regardless of the day's capacity.

Last night (8:15 p.m.) we entered this restaurant. As we sat down, a waitress rushed over and informed us that the kitchen was closed. That fact alone wasn't the problem. What was very odd, however, was the tone and manner of address. It's all in the tone of voice. Restaurant owners often complain about a lack of customers, but that's no surprise. We'll never go back to this place, and I can't recommend it. It's a shame, because we were really looking forward to it.

We visited the Black Ox on July 13, 2025. What can I say, it was the last time we went there. The atmosphere and service were top-notch (although extra help is definitely needed). We also had a nice seat under the kiwis. Now for the food. Paprika schnitzel that had been warmed up in the deep fryer and was consequently extremely dry. The sauce was an indefinable mush of tomato puree and a couple of peppers from a jar. The fries were okay, the salad edible. All in all, the price-performance ratio is not right, which was very disappointing as we had always eaten well there in the past. What a shame.

The female waitress clearly missed her job, annoyed, unfriendly (there was hardly anything going on) the young man was fabulous, friendly with a smile, that's how gastronomy works

Two of us spontaneously stopped by the Schwarzer Ochsen in Sulzbach on a Sunday at around 1:30 p.m. The restaurant has a cozy, rustic ambiance and was overall very clean and inviting. The food was well presented. My schnitzel was a decent portion size, but the cordon bleu could have been a bit larger for our taste. Both dishes were solid in terms of taste. Service was provided by a very young waitress who was obviously still being trained. She was friendly and attentive. Overall, a pleasant visit for a down-to-earth lunch in a pleasant atmosphere.

It was our first time staying with the Rettich family. We were very satisfied. Highly recommended.

So, first of all, I'd like to say that my review isn't based on bad food, ambiance, or anything like that. Quite the opposite: the food is great. However, humanity is very low in the management department, and I can only advise anyone planning a celebration or wedding here to get a contract, read the fine print, and think carefully about whether you want to get married or celebrate here. If, for reasons yet to be determined, you have to postpone or cancel the celebration, and everyone knows that can happen quickly, your €500 deposit is simply gone. Compromises are only offered in favor of the company. (If someone else celebrates on the same day with the same size, the deposit can be refunded.) The day of the cancellation was 9-10 months earlier, so the previous planning effort for the celebration was a maximum of 2x working hours. Well, you don't learn from that, and it doesn't seem to be a problem for the company to lose customers. P.S. My fiancée also left a review here and was rejected by the Management very concerned about reputational damage and the like, dear Ms. Z, affected dogs usually bark, as you can see in this case, you alone are responsible for the reputational damage. We have a complete history of all discussions which shows that the agreements are solely in favor of the company and, another thing: a Google review is used to communicate positive and negative experiences, which is what we have done here. There is nothing reprehensible about it, but your reaction alone shows that affected dogs usually bark. I hope you rethink your approach in future so that you do less damage to your own business.

⭐☆☆☆☆ Unfortunately, very disappointing – no cooperation or communication whatsoever We had to cancel our wedding reception, planned for September 13, 2025, at the Zum Schwarzen Ochsen restaurant, early in December 2024 for personal reasons – more than 10 months in advance. There was no written contract, but we had paid a deposit of €500 for the reservation. This has not been refunded to this day – even though no compensation was paid. We tried several times to find a fair, out-of-court solution – supported by a lawyer from our legal expenses insurance and the Federal Universal Arbitration Board. Unfortunately, all our requests were ignored for months – both in writing via email and in a personal meeting with Ms. Ziegler on site. A clarifying conversation or even a call back: none. Ms. Ziegler also named the alleged managing director, Mr. Schmerreim, as a contact person – even though, according to the commercial register, he is no longer listed as a managing director (the arbitration board also confirmed this in writing). Nevertheless, we contacted Mr. Schmerreim directly on May 9, 2025 – again, no response. We are extremely disappointed by the disrespectful and ignorant treatment of us as customers. No offer of a partial refund, no voucher – instead, silence and responsibility being passed back and forth. This is no way to treat customers, especially not on such an important occasion as a wedding.

Nice to sit outside in the large courtyard, very good food, very attentive service. Our club had also booked the hall for a dance ball, it was beautifully decorated, great service and good food. There are also various events/promotions such as late riser breakfasts and schnitzel days, etc.

We celebrated our wedding in the ballroom at the weekend and are so happy that we chose the Zum Schwarzen Ochsen. The food was super tasty, the service was very quick and extremely attentive. Very child-friendly and very helpful with all questions and preparations. The space is beautiful with old charm. We are super happy and can wholeheartedly recommend celebrating there.

A fantastic beer garden with a children's play area. The food was very good, especially the pizza. The service was often a bit off-key and messed things up, but they made up for it with a friendly and helpful demeanor. Excellent value for money!

Die Gerichte auf der Karte gibt es oft nicht .Die Salatschüssel war eine der schlechtesten im meinem Leben ! .Pommes darf man alleine nicht bestellen . A visit to the Zum schwarzen Ochsen restaurant is a culinary experience that impresses above all with its excellent cuisine. The dishes are not only of a high standard in terms of taste, but also very generous in their portion sizes – there's something for everyone here. The restaurant's ambiance is somewhat quaint, with a rustic charm that nevertheless creates a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. You immediately feel welcome and in good hands. The service deserves special praise: The staff is attentive, friendly, and always on hand, without being intrusive. You can tell that the work here is done with passion. One small drawback is the sanitary situation – the restrooms are not located in the same building, but across the courtyard. This can be a bit unpleasant, especially in bad weather. Nevertheless, this circumstance only minimally detracts from the overall very positive impression. In conclusion: A visit is definitely worth it – for the food, the service, and the cozy atmosphere. If you can overlook the short walk to the restrooms, you'll be completely satisfied.

Schnitzel really good, hand cheese nicely presented, but unfortunately rock hard and not particularly tasty - it's hard to imagine that the "regulars" like it that much. Service was very friendly, but you wait in vain for ketchup. Therefore only 3 out of 5 stars. Too bad. We'll still come back.

We were there spontaneously (without reservation) with 4 adults and 4 children. The restaurant made special rearrangements to be able to offer us a table. The ambience was simply fantastic, with lots of lovely details that created a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and they took special care of the children, which we really appreciated. The food was excellent – ​​every dish was freshly prepared and tasted a highlight. We were particularly impressed by the variety of dishes and the quality of the ingredients. The value for money was also very good, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Another plus point is the authenticity of the restaurant. Everything, from the decor to the food to the service, was consistent and authentic. We felt completely comfortable and will definitely come back. A little tip: Be sure to reserve by phone in advance, as the restaurant is very busy. This is a clear sign of the high quality and popularity of the restaurant.

On December 25, 2024, we had, among other things, two of the dumpling trilogy: the dumplings were only lukewarm and cold, the leaf salad (lamb's lettuce) wasn't fresh, and one dish was missing port wine onions! The dishes weren't visually appealing! We also had two Grandma's beef roulades. The meat in the roulades was very tough (normally, roulade meat melts in your mouth). We also ordered one of the tender goose leg. The term "tough goose leg" would have been more appropriate! We were very disappointed with the food. We can't recommend this restaurant!!! The atmosphere is cold and uncomfortable – it resembles the waiting room of an old train station!

We celebrated our wedding here and can recommend everyone to do the same. The service was perfect, the food was very, very tasty and (small) children were also catered for with an extra play area, diapers and wet wipes at the changing table. We'd love to come back :)

Nice atmosphere, good food, very nice beer garden, despite the large group, everything worked very well and smoothly.

We will be happy to come back again and again and celebrate our daughter's wedding with you next year

Very nice restaurant, great beer garden, and especially the schnitzel is highly recommended. I always enjoy going there and can only recommend it.

I ate there with my husband and we were more than satisfied. The fries were really a treat, the cooked cheese tasted really good, unlike other cooked cheese but it tastes really delicious. The vegetables were on point. We'll be back 😄

Nice beer garden, very tasty food and very friendly and attentive staff.

The food was actually quite okay. Except for the schnitzel... it smelled sour and tasted bitter. Unfortunately the cook was already off work at 8 p.m. I declined the offered pizza as a replacement. The schnitzel wasn't charged for but it wasn't particularly friendly anymore.

Were there for Easter brunch. The buffet was plentiful, sausage, cheese, ham, various types of bread, croissants, baked bunnies, various types of rolls, jam, Nutella, small pancakes with maple syrup, homemade Bircher muesli, fruit, yoghurt...

It was our first and last time there. The rump steak was dry and tough. The homemade one Kochkäs was a greasy mush that tasted sour, as if it had already been passed over. The spaetzle were knöpfle that were so greasy and hard as if they had been baked in the pan many times. There was no trace of friendliness in the service. For 70 euros (which we spent) you can probably expect quality. Never again

Waren zum ersten Mal da aber auch zum letzten Mal. Das Rumpsteak war eine Katastrophe, ich habe noch nie so ein schlechtes Rumpsteak gegessen. Meine Frau hatte ein Schnitzel mit Kochkäse. Der Kochkäse schmeckte säuerlich als ob er schlecht war. Die Spätzle waren gebackene Knöpfle die schmeckten als wenn sie zum xten mal in der Pfanne aufgewärmt wurden. Zum Abschluss noch die Toiletten über den Hof in ein kleines Häuschen das nicht beheizt wird. Für 70 Euro kann man mehr erwarten.

Great ambience! The cook had an appointment and the only thing that could be ordered was food from the pizzeria next door. No problem at first…the taste is fine. In terms of price...the prices on the menu (pizzeria) were not valid, but rather the in-house prices. With this strategy you lose customers instead of gaining new ones.

Delicious food, it's just a shame that the service was so stressed and came across as unfriendly even though only 3 tables were occupied. Some pleasant music would improve the atmosphere, otherwise hats off to the chef, we'd love to come back!
