Nice decor and plenty of space around the tables. There are small tables for two, but also tables for groups. The service is friendly and attentive. I enjoy coming to this cozy inn right by the train station. The food is fine for me.

A very nice and centrally located restaurant. We really enjoyed the selection of dishes – a modern take on German cuisine. The Brizza was absolutely delicious, and it's a really cool combination. The service was very friendly and quick. Especially on weekends, be sure to reserve in advance, as it was very busy.

Ahhh, what can I say... the Zenz Wirtshaus is simply fabulous! I eat here often, almost every weekend, in fact! Because the food, the service, and the restaurant are simply top-notch, and you can't resist the temptation to try these delicacies again. I've already sampled quite a bit from the menu, but today I tried the potato dumplings with pork wax, and I was truly impressed. The potato dumplings, in particular, were truly delicious. I really have to give them a big compliment. But I really wish you could add some larger potato dumplings with chopped pork knuckle and some red cabbage and gravy to the menu sometime, because your red cabbage tastes truly wonderful, and I can well imagine it would be delicious and would tempt many sweet tooths like me who love potato dumplings 😂. But the service team is truly friendly, helpful, attentive, and absolutely fantastic. You feel very comfortable at the Zenz Wirtshaus, and it's truly comfortable and decorated with lots of love. But on special days like football matches, it can get a bit crowded, so I would really recommend reserving a table to guarantee you get one. Otherwise, on regular days, you can definitely go here without a reservation. 😊 I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for little gourmets who want to enjoy good, affordable food and who value customer service! MICE in the restaurant area around our table!!! When we politely pointed out a mouse to the server, he replied that it was normal and that traps had been set up… Unfortunately, I don't find that normal at all – disgusting.

A typical restaurant in the city center. I had lunch with a colleague and we ordered two cutlets. The waitresses wear traditional clothing and are helpful and friendly. The food is good and the portions are generous.

We were there with 15 people on a Friday evening (with a reservation, of course, which went perfectly!), and everyone was absolutely thrilled. This was due to the excellent food, the wonderful atmosphere, but especially to Björn. He was very attentive, made everyone laugh (Claudia says hello 😁), and provided us with everything we needed. The rest of the team was also great, and if we ever go to Mainz again in this group, we'll definitely come back! Thank you so much!

A very nice restaurant. The service was very good and really fast. We had a Brizza (a pizza with pretzel dough) for the first time – it was very tasty. We were completely satisfied.

Nice place, busy even on a Monday. Great beer, excellent service and atmosphere. Overall, the food was a mixed bag: the Brizza, Leberkäse (meatloaf), and beetroot fritters were really good, the Cordon Bleu was unfortunately dry, the Maultaschen (squash) were a bit soggy, and the Kaiserschmarrn (shrimp) was really bad. The ice cubes in the spritzers (apple and grape) are also rather questionable. Still a nice place to sit and have a drink, but the food could still be improved.

Very welcoming staff and a very warm environment

There were four of us, and we had a quieter table in a side room. Everything was excellent: hearty home-cooked food, outstanding handkässalat (salad with cheese). The service staff were super friendly and welcoming; we felt very welcome, even though it was very busy. A particularly nice, petite young lady with reddish hair welcomed us as if we'd come home and she already missed us, even though it was our first time there. She clearly enjoyed her job. I would have given her 6 stars for that alone.

I once interrupted my train journey to check out the Zenz Wirtshaus in Mainz. I'm practically stranded here waiting for the next train, and I thought to myself: Let's use the waiting time wisely. The Zenz has a quaint, rustic ambiance, just as you'd imagine. And if you prefer something a little livelier, you can sit at the tables right on the main street. Sure, it's a bit louder, but you can still have a good conversation – there's plenty to look at. The food and drinks menu offers classic pub favorites, exactly what you'd expect. Since I was only there for a short time, I only had a coffee this time. But it was good, and the service was quick and really friendly. The inn makes a really good impression overall, and the prices are absolutely fair for its central location in Mainz. I will definitely come back when I have more time to try one or two dishes on the menu. Who knows, maybe this will be my new favorite spot on my commute.

We were there for the first time today. The food was good, especially the Brizza. The salads (both the side dishes and the winemaker's salad) had too little dressing, and the winemaker's salad was generally lacking in seasoning. However, the service was really friendly.

Very centrally located on Bahnhofplatz, the Zenz Wirtshaus combines a modern tavern feel with cozy, rustic charm. Wooden furniture, copper accents, and historic tiles create a special atmosphere. The service and friendliness are of a very high standard. The staff is attentive and warm. But now for the most important part of the review – the food: The kitchen offers a modern take on regional favorites. From roast pork and schnitzel to Palatinate platters, beetroot dumplings, and the "MEENZER SPUNDEKÄS" – all prepared with great commitment and great taste. The portions are large enough to satisfy most people. The absolute highlight, in my opinion, are the Brizzas. I love pizza, and as a Swabian, I love pretzels – what could be better than combining both in one dish? My favorite is the "Zenzer Brizza" with sour cream, shredded pork knuckle, red onions, and white cabbage. Super hearty with a large pretzel crust – simply amazing! Why do I have to go to Mainz for this and can't get something like this in Swabia?! The drinks selection is very extensive: There are a variety of beers, cocktails, homemade lemonades, and good wines. At around €30 per person, Zenz is on the higher end of the price-performance range—but certainly reasonable given the quality of the service and food.

Yes, I do have a suggestion for improvement. Cappuccino has potential for improvement in both taste and size. Cappuccino only gets a grade of 4-5. Especially in terms of taste.

The Zenz restaurant impresses across the board. The service is exceptionally attentive, friendly, and professional. While visiting Germany I had the pleasure of visiting this Wirsthaus called Zenz. Between its elegant dishes, fantastic choices of beer and cocktail happy hour after 10 pm, this is a must stop place if you are visiting the beautiful city of Mainz! Björn, Bernadette, and Anas are among some of the best staff to have served myself and my group. They are always friendly and accommodating.

The service, Albiente, and the food from Proton are all excellent, and the taste is excellent! I'm very impressed, and this place will immediately become one of my go-tos.

This is where our stay in Mainz was saved. After our train was cancelled, we spent several hours enjoying food and drinks at this inn. Björn, our server, took excellent care of us and shortened the hours we spent waiting for the next train immensely. The food and drinks were delicious. We would go back anytime!

I had a knuckle of pork with fried potatoes and a schnitzel with fries – both were delicious. The knuckle of pork could have been a bit crispier, but the flavor was excellent. The atmosphere is perfectly fine for its proximity to the train station: cozy and clean. The service was friendly and attentive – nothing to complain about.

With opening hours until midnight, it's quite surprising that the kitchen closes at 9:50 p.m. Breakfast and lunch times are listed on the menu, but dinner isn't. Not a good move after a long journey to Mainz.

The price/performance ratio is good here. The food was delicious, and there's a wide selection of drinks. Some dishes needed more seasoning, but that wasn't a problem. Modern decor with outdoor seating, where you sit right on the street. The service was super friendly and quick to take our order. The ordered dishes arrived promptly and were all beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. There's also a small selection for kids, and the portions are quite large.

I'm not normally a fan of system catering, but Zenz somehow manages to make you feel comfortable there - the waitresses are very attentive and friendly. The right concept in the right place - with outdoor dining in summer.

The inn is located right next to Mainz main train station and can actually be easily reached from anywhere. The inside is very lovingly and rustically designed, the service is very nice and attentive. If you're looking for good, home-style cooking, you're in good hands here.

Unfortunately, unfriendly service. We were immediately reprimanded just because we moved a table by 30 cm so that six of us could sit together.

I ordered a simple cocktail (margarita) during happy hour. Since it wasn't on the menu, a 50% surcharge was charged over other cocktails despite happy hour without informing us in advance. In conversation: “you were unlucky”. Rip off.

Simply great for waiting time at the train station, but also just because. The menu and the drinks menu are lovingly designed. Super nice service, the food was fresh and tasty, there are lovely vegan options, delicious aperitif... And the espresso is excellent too. There is also right next to the train station and space for the miserable suitcases. Big recommendation.

We had the fried fish and the Wiener schnitzel, each with potato salad and cucumbers. It only took 5 minutes for the food to arrive after ordering. The veal schnitzel was tough and unfortunately so was the breading on the fish. The potato salad is supercooled. Only the beer tasted good. Therefore no recommendation, even if the interior looks very pleasant.

I came to eat food. The wait person was impatient and laught at me when I could not understand her at first because she was yelling truncated words at me. And since when are we using Du? Food was ok but portioned was very small.

The asparagus with hollandaise sauce was pretty bland. But the vegan schnitzel was just amazing. Even though I knew it, I wouldn't have recognized it as a meat-free alternative based on the taste.

8.50€ for 3 dead pieces of fillet with asparagus (with 6 potatoes already 16.90€) is simply over the top. Ambience really nice, service without any real joy in the job.

On Schnitzel Day the price/performance ratio is very balanced and fair. Salad is worth considering at over 5 euros... Service was very friendly and attentive, not intrusive. Lots of people, but not too loud and you don't smell like you've come out of a frying pan after your visit.

Delicious and fresh food, very nice staff

Today we ate another schnitzel with fried potatoes, cranberries and salad. Had a wheat beer with it. I thought the summer salad version only with leaf lettuce, especially radiccio and red beetroot cubes, was great, nothing against coleslaw and potato salad as usual, I also like to eat it. Schnitzel and fried potatoes are delicious. There are better products/suppliers when it comes to cranberry compote, but it's great that it comes with it, it's part of the schnitzel. Gladly again sometime!!!
