Zenz Wirtshaus in Mainz

Es war nicht unser erster Besuch. Service wie immer sehr freundlich. Essen war auch wieder sehr lecker. Auch kann man das Treiben auf den Bahnhof sehr gut beobachten, was unseren Enkel sehr freute.

We had dinner in the restaurant yesterday, super friendly staff. We once had the beer goulash which was delicious and the portion was also right. Secondly, we had the Wirtshausschnitzel with steak fries, the fries were no longer really hot and therefore a bit soggy, the portion was ok, the schnitzel was large, but never had 300 grams. That was maybe 150g. Meat as thin as it was and 150g of breading that was completely detached from the schnitzel, and the amount of side salad for €4.90 was a bit outrageous.

The sauerbraten was very good, only the potato dumplings could be a little bigger.

Schnitzel day in Zenz. Really delicious. Very friendly quick service. I didn't expect it to be opposite the main train station.

I was there for the first time on September 12, 2024 because I wanted to enjoy good German cuisine again and the reviews of the inn are very good. The reception was very friendly, the atmosphere corresponds to that of a tavern with a bar character, overall cozy and rustic. The waiter was very friendly and accommodating, he responded to my wishes, which I found to be very positive. I then decided on the Rhenish Sauerbraten with dumplings and red cabbage. For my taste, the red cabbage was a little too sweet and a little too much cinnamon, the meat was good and the sauce was very tasty, the dumplings (two pieces) were quite small so I ordered two more, which were served a short time later. Conclusion: good regional home cooking, I will definitely go there again and then try the knuckle... Was there again today September 14th, 2024. This time I tried the knuckle, it was very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The dumplings were the same as the sauerbraten and a little too small. The cabbage was very fresh and crunchy with bacon, the sauce was the highlight and was very, very tasty. The waiter was very friendly and attentive as on my first visit. I'll go back and tell you, next time I'll try the bratwurst or the schnitzel... I'm excited...

Nice brewery right next to Mainz train station. Friendly and fast service staff. The food was very good (Brauhaus schnitzel and pizza made from pretzel dough) and the beer and lemonades were also good.

Food: 3/5 - The fried potatoes swim in oil and are unfortunately not real fried potatoes… Service: 3/5 - 10min wait for ketchup…. A gentleman at the next table was arrested for not paying for his meal. The staff shout loudly and pay no attention to guests at the next table. There was no apology for the inconvenience... Price: 3/5 - 47€ for 2 schnitzels and 2 cokes and a lot…

My daughter and I ate dinner in this restaurant. I ordered the saurbraten with potato dumplings. Both were really good. I also ordered a house made lemonade that was tasty. Service was great.

We spontaneously looked for something for breakfast and came across Zenz Wirtshaus. The pancakes are super tasty and beautifully prepared. I was also very impressed by the ambience... very stylishly designed. We recommend it 👍🏻

I was in Mainz for 3 days. My hotel was next to the train station. I discovered the restaurant by chance. I really liked the selection on the menu. Something for everyone. Then I saw knuckle with dumplings and coleslaw with bacon. I thought I'd try it. THANK GOD!!! GOOD DECISION It was heavenly and incredibly delicious. Everything! I held the bone briefly, made a quick cut into the meat and the whole thing slid off the bone without leaving any residue. The bone was snow white. The meat was so juicy. Simply delicious and great. I ate a knuckle every evening for 3 days. It's just a shame that I wasn't in Mainz for a month. The service was so incredible, friendly, quick and professional that I had the feeling that they didn't take what they were doing as work at all. Unfortunately, I was there for the first time, but not the last. Guaranteed!!!! Please please keep it up!! Boys - girls and HAXE, I'll be back. Thank you for everything!

Nice restaurant right next to the train station in Mainz, where you can also sit comfortably outside. Staff is attentive and quick and the beer is cold and tasty. I can't say anything about the food because I only ordered drinks. But the curious looks at the neighboring tables suggest that it tastes really good. Prices are a little higher than known (5.10 euros / 0.5 l beer), but still within reason.

Pleasant atmosphere, delicious food, courteous service, … what more could you want? I was stranded in Mainz because of a problem with the train. The waitresses were very attentive. My risotto was very good and the portion was quite decent. And the restaurant is very cozy inside and out. Particularly worth mentioning is the cool selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Pear and sage lemonade can be seen in the picture.

Excellent food, excellent service. The schnitzel and bratwurst were on point. The cheese with the pretzel was really good. We ate there back to back days.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. When they heard our Flemish accent, they quickly switched to English. Despite the crowds, we didn't have to wait long for our food. The homemade lemonades were delicious, as were the schnitzel and fries. The fried potatoes were a bit disappointing. It seemed to us that these were not freshly baked à la minute, but earlier in the evening and kept warm for a little too long. A cozy location with the hustle and bustle of the station in the background.

Wir waren nach einer Empfehlung der Rezeption heute zum Essen im Zenz. Der sehr sympathische Keller war exzellent. Allen Gästen zugewandt, immer ein Lächeln, nachfragen ob was fehlt, höflich und extrem hilfsbereit. Ich habe seit Langem keinen besseren Keller Benjamin gesehen. Das Essen war sehr lecker und auch zeitgleich und recht schnell am Tisch. Tolles Ambiente innen, auch relativ schön außen. Würde das Lokal immer wieder besuchen und sehr empfehlen. Danke, Benjamin, für den tollen Service!

Restaurant in front of the Mainz train station. Spacious inside and out. Very attentive employees. Perfect cleaning. Letter in German/English. They do everything possible to understand you and you have a good time, they are very friendly. We ate German sausages (naturally) and delicious stew. For dessert, chocolate ice cream with cream. The dishes are very generous (you won't leave hungry). I would definitely repeat.

Schnitzel was delicious. So was the pasta with goat cheese sauce and beet root. Nice breezy outdoor seating area.

By far the worst food in Mainz!! Schnitzel with fried potatoes lukewarm, of the 300 g schnitzel offered there were probably 150 g of breadcrumbs!! The taste is also not enjoyable! Therefore I cannot recommend the food!! Service was good, friendly, fast and competent. Beer was good (helles). Conclusion: What use is friendly service and a good beer if the food isn't satisfactory! Price/performance therefore not satisfactory! I won't come back!!

No star, I'm really angry. I ordered Allgäuer Kässpätzle and received a very strange shape - very runny and definitely not Allgäuer Kässpätzle. I didn't like it at all. The waitress asked in a friendly manner and offered to swap, very nice. Five minutes later the “boss” came and explained that costs had been incurred and that I had to pay. I then turned off the alternative and am very disappointed with this type of service. I love Allgäu spaetzle and have probably eaten it 15 times in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Austria and Switzerland. No recommendation, full money taken and zero courtesy shown. Sorry, that doesn't work. I hope that the nice waitress didn't get into trouble because of this. The boss's behavior in all directions is not customer- and service-oriented, only sales-oriented. I was very irritated that after I agreed to pay, he said "Ok", turned on his heel and walked away - I'm not interested in the €14.80. Regarding Zenz's answer: I didn't hear any reason, except that I should please pay because costs were incurred. There was no accommodation of any kind - I had to move on, angry and hungry, after not eating anything but paying for everything. I hate cheese sauces and it doesn't matter at all that other guests like it and agree not to receive the dish they ordered. And to the point again - you can't call spaetzle in cheese sauce “Allgäuer Käsespätzle”. The latter are always gratinated - the cheese is in layers between the spaetzle, usually garnished with fried onions. When I order fried potatoes, I don't expect boiled potatoes. The owner's answer glosses over it and doesn't help me - I didn't get what I ordered - the rating remains as it is and is still far too good for the owner's behavior and answer.

This is an amazing restaurant. I went here with the people of UIB (business party) So I don't know what the prices are. But the food and drinks were amazing. Staff is very friendly and bilingual. Due to its proximity to the main train station (80 m), the restaurant is ideal as a stopover during a train journey. The service was friendly, the food was delicious, not too expensive and, in addition to the permanent menu, there was also what seemed to be a daily changing lunch menu. There are a few tables outside in front of the house and three guest rooms inside, the back of which was cordoned off. You can reserve a table online in advance, which worked well.

Aufgrund der Nähe zum Hauptbahnhof (80 m) eignet sich das Lokal sehr gut als Zwischenstopp während einer Bahnreise. Die Bedienung war freundlich, die Speisen lecker, nicht zu teuer und es gibt, neben der ständigen Karte (täglich?) auch wechselndes Mittagsmenü. Einige Tische befinden draußen vor dem Haus und es gibt drei Gasträume drinnen.

First of all, great service. The waiters successfully tried to find a good seat for me. Thank you for that and also 5 stars for service. Almost no waiting time. Food arrived very quickly, paying was even quicker ;) It looks cozy. Well visited. To eat: The drink (homemade lemonade) was delicious! The Cesar salad looked good, but I'm afraid I was missing the Ceaser dressing. There was something there but it tasted like almost nothing. The leaves were too big to eat properly. If you like it rustic, the bacon tastes good...But dry bacon and anchovies...That's not to everyone's taste The fried potatoes were quite good. The portion is completely sufficient.

The schnitzels and wine are great - try the mushroom or pepper schnitzel! The salad had too much dressing but the side order of chicken was generous for the price. Our waiter was friendly but he made it clear that the tip was not included in our bill and was basically asking for a tip - likely because he knew I was not from Germany. I would definitely suggest trying this restaurant!

German inn with a modern interpretation. I happened to catch the scavenger hunt on Tuesday and ordered at 4:43 p.m. The nice waitress kindly pointed out the offer from 5 p.m. I put the money I saved into a second beer 😉. My Jägerschnitzel was excellent, tender and crispy at the same time. It was great that I could also use fried potatoes instead of fries. These are also very tasty. There are also several beers to choose from, although there doesn't seem to be a typical Mainz beer. Nevertheless, I was very happy with this Google Maps chance find and would love to come back again. Food delicious, service great and very attentive, atmosphere modern yet hospitable. Tip: a reservation is recommended during classic meal times.

Today we ate another schnitzel with fried potatoes, cranberries and salad. Had a wheat beer with it. I thought the summer salad version only with leaf lettuce, especially radiccio and red beetroot cubes, was great, nothing against coleslaw and potato salad as usual, I also like to eat it. Schnitzel and fried potatoes are delicious. There are better products/suppliers when it comes to cranberry compote, but it's great that it comes with it, it's part of the schnitzel. Gladly again sometime!!!

Went to Zenz for breakfast with friends. Rustic/cozy atmosphere (adjoining room), very nice service, even when making a reservation. Coffee was delicious, breakfast was good and sufficient (for older people 😊). Bread (for me) a bit dry. Prices fairly moderate. Zenz can definitely be recommended. Lunch dishes we saw looked appetizing/rich.

I paid €4.10 for a small beer plus a tip of one euro. I sat outside and smoked CBD flowers in a vaporizer. There were eight smokers next to me with cigarillos cigarettes etc. The waiter was instructed to tell me to stop smoking. In principle no problem, but he could have saved both the waiter and me from this embarrassing situation by hanging clear signs on the outside facade. As has been confirmed to me by others, the managing directors don't have the courage because it looks intolerant. They sell hard drugs in the form of alcohol (40,000 alcohol deaths per year). Smoke cigarettes, but for God's sake, as soon as someone uses a long-standing legal non-tobacco substance in a vaporizer, the world falls apart. One may ask oneself what the background is.

I visited the inn opposite the main train station for the first time when my train connection was canceled. I was pleasantly surprised because there were vegan options on the menu. Down-to-earth, rustic German cuisine. The vegan schnitzel was nice and crispy and with fried potatoes. Delicious food, like at home with grandma. Interior is bourgeois comfortable. You can also sit outside. Waiters are also very nice. Gladly again.

Essen war spitze (Schnitzel mit Spargel und Kartoffeln + Dessert)! Bedienung auch top - sehr freundlich, immer wieder nachgefragt, ob alle in Ordnung ist, schmeckt, man noch was möchte etc. Auch die Lage ist sehr zentral - direkt gegenüber vom Hauptbahnhof. Wir kommen immer wieder gern 😊

The inn is centrally located opposite the main train station. The food was good, the menu was plentiful and the staff was extremely friendly and quick. The price-performance ratio was also okay. We would be happy to come back on our next stay in Mainz.

On a Sunday we were looking for a restaurant that offered us “European cuisine”. That wasn't easy and we were very!!! Surprised to find good cuisine, top service and a pleasant, quiet atmosphere and a good audience right at the main train station. The beer goulasch was a poem and the Wirtshaus schnitzel was golden, tender and very tasty. With two large beers we paid a total of €42 and that was a good price. Because it was so good, we had dinner there again the following day. A 100% recommendation.

We came as a group of 8 people later in the evening to end the evening together. We had beer and cocktails. Pale Ale was on the menu, but unfortunately it wasn't available - none of the ones on offer. The happy hour cocktail was cheaper, but 3/4 of the glass was made of crushed ice. But the taste is ok. The ambience was very nice - the service was also excellent, the waiter was helpful and friendly. We didn't have anything to eat - so no judgment from me.

Were there for a registered family celebration. Suddenly there were more and more other guests in the next room...which I found disturbing. No proper place to store and supervise your wardrobe. Experimental menu like the Brezn pizza...the veal meatballs were very bland = tasteless. Unfortunately the dishes are incomplete, so you have to order salads separately and of course pay for them. Unfortunately I didn't tolerate the ultimately heavy food well overall. There was actually no parking space and we didn't receive any advice on how to park. I spent an additional €8 in parking fees and had to feed the parking meter on time every hour. Conclusion: I have had more relaxed and comfortable family celebrations. Please say straight away if you don't know how to do something like that...

Everything perfect. I did not expect. Bars and restaurants in the train station area are often a bit shabby. But not here. Top service, damn good food (cheese spaetzle) and delicious drinks.

Food was very good and value for money was okay. Really unusual but regional specialties. The Meenzer Brizza, a pizza made from pretzel dough with Spunde and hand cheese - simply great! It was only very loud in the back due to the height of the room. Otherwise nice atmosphere with reference to the wine region
