Had dinner with four people on August 28, 2024. My Angus beef steak, which was ordered medium, was a dry, well-cooked piece of meat, a disgrace. The side dish, over-salted fried potatoes, was far too little, as was the sauce. The friends' side dishes (fries and fried potatoes) were also far too salty and not enough in quantity. The main components of the meals were fine, but nothing more. The side salad was ridiculous in quantity. The price/performance ratio is disproportionate! The service had to be informed three times that we still wanted to order drinks, even though we were sitting outside in the path of three waitresses. There was also no reaction from the kitchen after we expressed our criticism of the food to the waitress. We had to pay in the restaurant as there is no other way to do this with a card. As we left there was neither a word of regret nor a farewell.

Traditional German pub with delicious food.

Delightful authentic restaurant in the main old street of Mainz. Very delicious meats and other dishes with real german twists. I greatly enjoyed eating here as it also has nice outdoor seating in the streets. Good beer selection also. Reasonably priced, i highly reccommend. If you want a real german experience, come here!

They were friendly to us, which I can't say about the descendants of the guests. Very rude and assertive, it's a shame, I think today everyone should be happy when guests come!!!

Great service, really nice, courteous and considerate. The restaurant itself has a tradition, the food is of a good standard, appetizing and comes in a reasonable time. A perfect spot in the middle of Augustinergasse in Mainz, the interior is neat, but it could either be much more rustic, as expected for such a traditional restaurant, or something more trendy and modern. But we really enjoyed being there because we were well looked after.

The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious.

Great food, even grandma could eat there and she would be happy. Had beef roulade that you could eat without a knife - so tender. Red cabbage was also great. Everyone at the table was super happy. The next visit is already coming up.

Ugly shop, no good food, pure tourist attraction

The Augustinerkeller in Mainz in the old town is highly recommended. There is still real German cuisine here. The service was very nice and quick. I really had childhood memories of my grandma while spit roasting, kudos to your cook... not everyone can do that 🥰🥰🥰🥰

The beef broth was a good starter but the hunter schnitzel was a below average, rather tasteless and loveless main course. The ambience, service and soup could get 4* but the schnitzel, salad and especially the mushroom sauce hardly get 2*. It was also quite cheap though, so 3* overall without a doubt.

Unfortunately, the food wasn't that edible and the service (I assume it was the owner) was extremely unfriendly. A pity.

Great ambience, tasty food at a fair price.

The ambience is nice and authentic. Unfortunately that's the only good thing I can say after my visit. Food was average I would have done just as well myself. Half a liter of beer costs over €5 which is way too much in my opinion. Unfortunately our service was very unfriendly. She made us feel unwelcome. Seems to me to be more of a tourist trap for non-Germans.

Had a table reserved for 9 people And got a table for 8 people. Then two people are at another table. Should come together and there is no shameful effort to change that. Even after a colleague called out that they had space in the basement, only stupid comments came back.

Solid Mainz wine bar with home-style cuisine. The waiters are quick and accommodating. The food tastes good and is served fresh. Good address for visiting the city of Mainz. It's better to reserve a table on the weekend.

Phew, what should I write about today's experience. Food was absolutely solid. Even from the name, the whole thing seems more like a brewery and less like a wine location. And incredibly average wines... Service was really great and tried very hard. The location is totally rocked and something urgently needs to be done.

We were here once a few years ago and it was excellent. Went there again today and it was an impertinence. The food is inedible! I suspect the owners have changed. It's a shame because the atmosphere is nice!

Food ok but portions far too small

I was here for the first time. The good reviews made me want to stay here. Unfortunately, I cannot fully confirm these reviews. Maybe it was just a slip. Unfortunately, the fried potatoes with bacon and onions were only deep fried and therefore not fried potatoes, which is a bit rude. The bacon described was not available. Onions were cut huge and not fried. I asked for a little more sauce when ordering. When my schnitzel came, I almost couldn't see any sauce. I was told the sauce was under the cheese. In fact, there was a little bit of sauce. The meat was okay, the service at the table was businesslike, the service at the counter was a little robust. The ambience is quite nice and reflects the charm of simpler years gone by. Unfortunately, I wouldn't eat here again in the future. Drinks are probably not made in-house. But it seems to be popular with tourists.

The Sauerbraten with red cabbage and fluffy potatoe dumplings were superb. Wide selection of beer. Atmosphere lively with happy diners. They said they were short staffed but the servers were friendly and the service was still quite efficient.

We were initially greeted very rudely by the lady and sent to a table; since we were traveling with a wheelchair and stroller, this was the only one possible. After we had made room for the wheelchair and high chair (which luckily was there) and had put the two remaining chairs aside, we had to put them away ourselves with a lot of fuss. The food was ready quickly, but the portions are quite manageable for the price and unfortunately there is nothing to choose from for little ones. It's a shame we used to enjoy eating here. So the restaurant might be recommended for long-established/regular customers, but unfortunately not recommended for non-residents as you probably won't be welcome.

I've been there several times with friends over the last few days and everyone enjoyed it and felt comfortable. Although some other guests were bothered by the fact that there wasn't a German boss. But there is still GERMAN CUISINE THAT TASTES LIKE GRANDMA'S!!!!

Very cozy restaurant with home-style cuisine. The restaurant is on 2 floors and the service was very polite. We were here and made reservations in advance. Our table was immediately free and clean. The food tasted very good and I am convinced that everything was freshly cooked. Prices are okay.

The price/performance ratio is not right at all. For €17.90 a small schnitzel with a dollop of sauce and a handful of fries is a disgrace. The food was hardly seasoned. I hardly ever complain in restaurants, but the only positive thing was that the waitress was friendly. Never again for me.

Had dinner there on February 7th. We expected something different from old-bourgeois food. The menu had something delicious for every taste. We had the grill plate, the salad was bland and didn't look particularly special. The fries weren't crispy, they were soft like noodles. The meat was nothing special, you could say from Lidl or Aldi. The ambience and furnishings are very old but in a clean condition. Price-wise it was okay. However, for us it's not about the cost but about the taste and this was more of a grade 4.

Das Lokal ist ganz nett, der Service auch, aber das Essen ist unterirdisch. Von der kantinenhaften Anrichtung abgesehen ist das Essen fad, das Bier warm und das Fleisch lässt einen glatt Vegetarier werden. Nein Danke.

It's a shame it's no longer what it used to be! Ready-made schnitzel, no salt, ready-made sauce and waited over an hour for food because I forgot my order. No apology and not even a goodbye at the end. Never again!

Quaint rustic inn. Cozy interior with lots of wood. The cuisine is German, the portions are generous and the service is very friendly. Requests for changes to the courts will be taken into account. Highly recommended after a stroll through the city.

KÄSE MIT MUSIK 4.Schweinshaxe 2. glasses Cola 3. ginger Ale 4.1 glass Redwine but the waitress give us the extra chicken pepper that we did not ordered..but we gave it back to the waitress because we did not ordered it but at the end she told us they delete it already but still i pay extra of the food that we did not ordered..when i check the receipt at home its too late..i paid the dish that we did not eat.i really feel disappointed .they must delete it totally when they give us the receipt.. Food was okay but over all i expected more with the taste of Authentic German Food.Not worth it to go back again.

Such a great authentic German meal! So glad they were open on Christmas Day for some stranded Americans. They gave us great food, great service and a brilliantly German setting. Sehr Gut!

Came back for old times sake. Service was rather indifferent. Ordered jägerschnitzle but came with plain cream sauce not jäger style. Love the interior.

Wir hatten einen super Glühwein dort getrunken

Bisschen einfach im Mobiliar. Leider nicht im Gewölbekeller sondern im einfachen Gastraum. Rinderkraftbrühe sehr fade, Salat einfach und recht trostlos angerichtet. Mein Grillteller für 23,50 war eigentlich ein Kinderteller. Sehr dürftig in der Quantität für viel Geld. Qualität war gut aber nicht überragend Die Krönung war das meine Frau ihre Hähnchenbrust statt mit Kroketten mit Spätzle wollte. Hat sie bekommen, aber Spätzle mit 4,90 extra berechnet, die Kroketten aber einbehalten. Ist schon frech. Wenn noch mal nach Mainz, nicht mehr dahin. Kritik an der Quantität wurde mit "wir sagen der Küche bescheid " quittiert.

Poor quality of food and stuffy air

Das ist noch eines der alten originalen Restaurants. Wobei ich finde der Begriff Restaurant drückt es nicht richtig aus. Muss man sich ansehen. Mitten in der Altstadt, Fußgängerzone gelegen kann man natürlich auch nicht davor parken. Aber es lohnt sich. Zum Essen gibt's alles mögliche, z.B. Flammkuchen, Sauerbraten, Haxe, Kaiserschmarrn, usw. Man kann aber auch nur für ein paar Drinks einkehren. Man sitzt sehr urig, eventuell wirds auch etwas eng aber das gehört manchmal dazu. Empfehlenswert

Das Essen hat gut geschmeckt, wurde aber sehr lieblos serviert. Service war größtenteils okay. Leider hat man meine online Reservierung nicht gefunden, in der extra darauf hingewiesen habe das wir einen Hund dabei haben. Ich soll beim nächsten mal ein Bild vom Hund mit schicken, ob es ein großer oder kleiner Hund ist. Sehr seltsam

Das Restaurant hat einen schönen altdeutschen bzw. Bayerischen Stil und wirkt sehr gemütlich. Die Auswahl ist groß und der Service gut. Allerdings war dieser bei uns etwas langsamer, was jetzt nicht allzu schlimm war, da es auch gut besucht war.

Der Augustinerkeller ist auf jeden Fall eine Empfehlung wert. Das Essen schmeckt lecker und die Bedienung ist sehr nett. Auch die Preise sind völlig in Ordnung. Die Lage direkt in der Altstadt ist natürlich genial, auch das Ambiente ist genau mein Geschmack, richtig schön urig. 🙂

Die nette Servicekraft und die zentrale Lage mit urig-rustikalem Ambiente der 90er trösten nicht über die convenience-lastigen, aufgewärmt schmeckenden Speisen hinweg. Nichtfleischessende bleiben lieber ganz fern.

Hier gibt's nichts zu meckern. Auch hier absolute Empfehlung. Die Gans musste dran glauben, sehr lecker.

Nettes Lokal mit einer sehr gut bürgerlichen Speisekarte

Wir waren am Wochenende zum ersten Mal dort. Das Essen war ok, aber auch nicht mehr. Man sitzt zwar in einem Gewölbekeller, aber wirklich "urig" ist es nicht, was u.a. an Plastik-Weinranken liegt, die dort vermutlich schon seit Jahrzehnten als Deko hängen. Ebenfalls Jahrzehnte hinter sich hat die Toilette dort. Es ist zwar alles sauber und gepflegt, aber es wirkt dennoch so als habe der Laden die beste Zeit hinter sich. Die Bedienung die wir hatten war sehr nett und freundlich. Das ist uns positiv aufgefallen.
