Heringsbrunnen - German Bar and Restaurant in Mainz

Cool shop! Stopped by for a nightcap after the Mainz game and was very impressed by the atmosphere of this restaurant! The accents seemed very "random", but overall everything fit together very cool! The service was also very nice! We didn't eat because we were already full.

Celebrated a friend's birthday last Friday and had a very nice evening. The staff and also the boss were very friendly and attentive ☺️ my 3-month-old daughter was also allowed to come in and had fun 😁 is definitely recommended and I will stop by again on my next visit to Mainz 😇

I was a loyal guest at the Heringsbrunnen in Mainz for years and regularly visited the pub with friends. Unfortunately, on my last visit I discovered that the treatment of customers here is more than disappointing, which is why I have to write this review. E-cigarette incident: About two years ago I had a rather unpleasant encounter with the owner while I was in the pub with an e-cigarette. At the time, I blew a little steam into a glass without realizing that this could be a problem. Instead of politely pointing out that this was undesirable, I was reprimanded in an extremely harsh and condescending tone. The owner seemed visibly annoyed and upset, which unnecessarily escalated the situation. Of course I would have accepted the advice, but the tone made the whole thing unfriendly and unpleasant. Nevertheless, I decided to give the Heringsbrunnen a second chance because I generally liked the atmosphere and often went there with friends. The current incident: On the last visit, however, dealing with the guests was finally intolerable. A friend celebrated her birthday there, and it was an otherwise pleasant evening. When I came back from the toilet, I saw some 10% vouchers lying open next to the register. Next to these vouchers there were also flyers with the drink prices, which gave the impression that the vouchers were also freely available. I grabbed one as I thought it was a nice gesture from the pub to provide these for patrons. As soon as I had the card in my hand, the owner approached me directly, without warning or polite inquiry. He said I was acting like I was reaching into his closet and that it was absolutely not okay. I was completely surprised by this aggressive reaction. As a paying customer, I expect to be told in a friendly manner if something is not allowed, especially since the cards were open and accessible next to the flyers. Nothing indicated that it was something not to be taken. My disappointment: For me, this reaction was completely disproportionate. Instead of clarifying the situation politely, I was spoken to directly in a tone that lacked any respect. It would have been so easy to politely point out that the vouchers should not be taken without prior agreement. But the owner chose to confront me in a way that was completely inappropriate. As an independent small business owner, I understand the importance of treating customers respectfully. Customer loyalty is crucial, and if someone is a regular visitor to an establishment, that relationship should be nurtured, not destroyed. I took the voucher not only to make my girlfriend happy, but also because as a group we regularly leave money here and I thought it would be a nice gesture for a birthday. Conclusion: After this incident I left the pub immediately because I felt so badly treated that I couldn't enjoy the rest of the evening. My friends still stayed, but for me the evening in the Heringsbrunnen was over. I later learned from my father that the pub has a dubious reputation and is mostly frequented by unpleasant people. This incident only confirmed that impression. The Heringsbrunnen finally lost me as a loyal customer that evening. A little politeness and respectful interaction could have saved the situation. Instead, I left the pub feeling extremely bad. I definitely won't be returning and after this experience I can only advise against visiting this place.

Super rustic and authentic bar with a lot of charm. An owner who welcomes you with great warmth and great service! 👍 We have been here twice on New Year's Eve and each time we were always warmly welcomed and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Thank you very much Scholly ✨

Zum Absacker nachts um 3 uhr wurden wir vom Wirt freundlich empfangen. In entspannter Atmosphäre tranken wir noch ein Kölsch und machten uns auf den Weg ins Hotel. Sicher kann man dort auch den ganzen Abend verbringen

We ended up there spontaneously for dinner and we didn't regret it. Rustic and honest atmosphere with nice and cool service. Homemade food with a small menu, but that speaks for itself. So happy with a great evening 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

There's nothing to complain about here. Super good cuisine, you're still a guest here. Owner-run restaurant. With friendly and nice waitresses. And you meet staff again after years 👍 😂

We just wanted to quickly order 3 Kölsch at the bar and hiss away. ... 1. No, unfortunately we have to be assigned a table, so we stand at a bar table in the middle of the aisle 2. We tell the waitress twice that we want to pay quickly because these are our last 3 beers today. No, we have to pay in a relaxed manner at the end while standing in line at the checkout. 3. I stand in line to pay while my friends wait on the front steps. After 5 minutes, one of the Sherlock waiters thinks he has discovered Zechepreller and grabs my girlfriend's arm on the stairs - our table is still open. 4. After 10 minutes in the payment line, the waiter (who previously told us to go to the checkout at the end) arrives and says we should pay him because his colleague at the checkout is only responsible for the other half of the room. 0.2 stars as they fit in the Kölsch glass

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the herring fountain. Eating is ok, but it takes WAY too long. It's probably difficult if you only have 2 hotplates. Wirt is resistant to advice, doesn't tolerate criticism, doesn't accept any and just complains and argues with every negative review. It's a shame because this pub has potential.

Beer was good. Didn't try food. Bundesliga is shown. Everything was good!

The store was half full but no one was allowed in at 10 p.m. If restaurateurs no longer need it today... We've been there before and the guy was pretty unsympathetic. Today was probably the last time

Cozy pub, fair prices, nice staff.

Great location and super delicious food. We were also there on Carnival, it was really good too 👍. If only one or two Cologne songs were missing from the delicious Kölsch 😉, then it would have been perfect 🥳🥳🥳. A little Cologne music never hurt anyone and the people of Meenz will definitely like it too😜!

Quite ok to have a beer. Unfortunately, the cozy part of the bar is also the smoking part 🤷

I (female) recently wanted to drink a delicious Kölsch and even though over 90% of the guests were male, I decided to go in because I've always wanted to go here. Other (younger) women left the bar before me. I didn't stand at the counter for more than 5 seconds before the counter staff, who were quite young themselves, immediately waved me off, saying they "had nothing left". I looked around confused, because there was still space and there were guests in front of me. I asked if I could stand at the counter and was told no again. So I was actually asked out... I found it quite strange and absolutely incomprehensible.

Great team, great shop and Scholly is one of the last of its kind😉

Im Heringsbrunnen einzukehren, ist ein Vergnügen. Die gemütliche Bierbar bietet eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre. Kalte Getränke, großartige Musikauswahl, nette Leute, freundliches Heringsbrunnen-Team, Live-Fußball im TV... - alles prima für einen schönen Abend! Und das angebotene Essen ist auf einem geradezu herausragenden Niveau, gegenüber vergleichbaren Lokalitäten. Da kommt man gerne wieder... PS: Am Freitag war der Heringsbrunnen für Mainz-05-Freunde zudem DER Promi-Hotspot in Meenz! (🤗)

Wir Lieben die Spare Ribs im Herringbrunnen und kommen immer wieder gerne. Man fühlt sich dort herzlich Willkommen als Gast. Sehr sehr lecker & freundlich dort :-)

Sehr netter Wirt. Wir haben spontan angerufen. Einen tollen Platz bekommen und konnten Fußball ⚽ gucken. Sehr nette Bedienung. Wir haben leckeres Schnitzel und Cordon Bleu gegessen alles frisch gekocht das Schnitzel frisch geschnitten und paniert. Herrlich Lecker 😋. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne.

Ich war hier mit meinem phillipinschen Kumpel für eine nette Bierrunde eingekehrt. Da wir bereits vorher woanders gegessen haben, kann ich dazu leider keine Erfahrungswerte teilen. Ich bin jedoch davon überzeugt, dass das Essen dort genauso gut schmeckt, wie das Bier. Sogar der Extraswunsch von ein paar Brezelchen zum Bier wurde erfüllt. In der Tat haben wir so kleine Snacks auf der Karte vermisst. Ansonsten war unser Aufenthalt sehr schön. Gerne wieder. Bei schönem Wetter kann man auch draußen sitzen.

Super Lokal und leckeres Essen. Das ganze Team ist sehr nett. Wir durften sogar den berühmten Spund käse probieren. Danke nochmal für den schönen Abend. Liebe Grüße.... die Bamberger

Der Gastwirt mag kein Konfetti, er berechnet 30 Euro für die Reinigung wenn jemand Konfetti wirft. Großen Gruppen die Konfetti als Teil ihres Abends haben möchten würde ich vom Besuch abraten

Schöne Kneipe, super Essen und bestes Tegernseer vom Fass

Waren heute zum ersten Mal bei Euch. Die Sparerips waren super, das Schnitzel richtig gut. Sehr aufmerksame Bedienung und der Wirt ein Unikat der dafür sorgt, dass man sich sehr wohl fühlt. Wir kommen definitiv wieder. Danke für den schönen Abend.

Im Heringsbrunnen ist es immer wieder schön. Die Bierauswahl ist mit frischem Tegernseer vom Fass ausgezeichnet. Das Essen ist lecker. Sowohl die Rippchen als auf das Schnitzel oder die Fleischwurst sind bei meinen letzten Besuchen immer hervorragend gewesen. Das Ambiente ist urig und gemütlich, so wie ich eine Kneipe gerne hab. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne.

Sehr schöner Abend - Scholly und Safar haben sich für uns sehr gerne Zeit genommen und letzterer sich sogar unsere Namen gemerkt und mit Namen angesprochen ob wir noch was möchten. Ist mittlerweile eine Seltenheit und zeigt, wie groß die Wertschätzung den Gästen gegenüber ist.

Mein lieber Scholly. Immer wieder gern bei dir, heute wieder im Rahmen eines Geburtstags. Persönliche Atmosphäre, einfach eine Kneipe mit Charakter, genauso wie sein Wirt. Empfehlung für einen guten Kneipenabend in Mainz. Gruß Max

Ein toller Laden! Mit frischem, guten Essen, eiskaltem Bier, hervorragender Bedienung und einem Chef, der den Laden mit Hirn und Herz führt. Ein echtes Mainzer Juwel 💎.

Das Essen war bombe und das Personal war sehr nett und aufgeschlossen. Ich kann das Lokal nur weiter empfehlen. Kommen gerne wieder.

Richtig super gegessen, mega nette Bedienung, waren alle sehr freundlich und der Wirt weiß genau was er will. Würden sofort wieder dort hinkommen!!!!

Richtig unfreundlicher Wirt, der normale, zahlende Gäste grundlos anpöbelt. Gastfreundschaft sieht anders aus hier fühlt man sich alles andere als willkommen. Zudem stinkt es fürchterlich in dem Laden.

Frisch vom Metzger kommen jeden Tag die besten Rippchen der Stadt! Ein herrlich netter und waschechter Meenzer Besitzer mit angenehmer Atmosphäre, leckeren Speisen und bestem Bier.

Klasse Kneipe mit Livefußball, Tegernseer Hell vom Fass und dazu noch eine große Auswahl an Craft Bieren. Darüber hinaus sehr gutes Essen. Mein Schnitzel war ein Traum, es scheint alles frisch gemacht zu sein, da macht es gar nicht wenn im 20Uhr mal die Pommes aus sind!
