Very good German food in a pleasant atmosphere

It's as loud as a Mitropa restaurant. The food arrives quickly, but it's nothing special. We had trout meunière – completely unseasoned and bland – and "spinach dumplings" – which were just unseasoned fresh spinach, formed into a ball and drowned in oil. Luckily, after some discussion, I didn't have to pay for the "dumplings" (hence the 3 stars). I couldn't eat anything else for the rest of the evening, never again.

I've never waited that long for a schnitzel. There weren't many customers; over 1.5 hours.

It's strange that most of the reviews here are still from the previous reviewer! To begin with, we were at Prost und Mahlzeit today. The food was good, and the price/performance ratio was okay. But the service desperately needs improvement, otherwise it's a no-go. We waited 10 minutes for our wine, and the restaurant wasn't even full. The food arrived quickly, but after that, we didn't see the server again. Empty glasses and plates were left in front of us. She was chatting away by the door. She responded curtly to our repeated requests to speak to her. Here, the customer isn't king—yet! We'll try again in a few months; perhaps they'll have trained staff by then?

I ordered wedding soup, which unfortunately didn't contain any pancake strips, even though they were listed first among the toppings. The portion was very, very small for the price. The back of the restaurant smelled strongly of a toilet. The service was friendly but distant. The ambiance is okay, albeit very dark. I didn't feel particularly comfortable there.

Small selection, light cuisine, service so-so, but not exactly friendly, price and quality are okay. More of a snack bar style. Maybe suitable for a quick lunch. The potato soup with Mettwurst (a type of German sausage) was about a quarter of a sausage, and the ribs with sauerkraut were Kassler (smoked pork loin). With an outside temperature of around 8°C, the front door was open and it was cold inside – not a pleasant place to eat, feeling more like 17°C. We won't be back.

We've been to this restaurant twice. The first time we were too early for the mulled wine, but we made up for it the second time. Both meals were delicious. Unfortunately, it was the last day of our vacation, otherwise we would have continued to sample everything on the menu.

Our lunch arrived later than usual. The service was quick and friendly. We had our food after only 10 minutes. The menu was nice, small, and easy to navigate. Side dishes were available. The value for money was excellent.

We only had drinks, but we were thrilled. The young man who served us was incredibly attentive and friendly, and the selection of drinks and food was fantastic. We'll definitely try the dishes next time we visit 😋

Onion schnitzel, mushroom schnitzel

First off: I find it misleading that after a name change (and change of ownership?), the same account with all the reviews continues. This was my first visit since the renovation; at the previous location, "Bratwurstglöckle," I'd only ever grabbed something from the street vendor, which is sadly no longer there. The food was good (Frikadelle), definitely didn't look like convenience food, and tasted great too. The curly fries, however, weren't curly at all, more like crinkle-cut, and could have been a bit crispier. Prices are really reasonable for a city center location. Unfortunately, there was a rather strong smell of the toilet in the back, even after moving to several tables further away. Overall, though, it's recommendable for a quick stop. The service is impersonal but quite efficient.

Potato salad from a bucket, a small portion of cheese spaetzle, mushroom sauce from a packet – I don't think anything was freshly cooked at all.

Prost&Mahlzeit has found its way back... away from the primitive beer garden atmosphere and towards traditional German cuisine (beef goulash, boiled beef, sauerbraten, and much more). The interior is also rustic and very cozy again. IT'S WORTH GOING AGAIN!

Unfortunately, the previous owner was more comfortable. There was a wider selection on the menu. The waitresses who were there before are still there. They're still very friendly and helpful, especially attentive. It's a shame that the whole restaurant has lost its charm. The garden chairs are so hard, and the benches outside are too hard to sit on for long, especially not comfortably. It's nice that the street food is open again. Now we hope things get better. I used to love going there...

It's a rip-off, the taste is not good, and the service is not good

Close to our hotel & offered some authentic German cuisine. There are many drink & food options available (they do have an English menu as well). The service was excellent and quick. Food was great & the portions were large. We actually had to bring food back with us. Overall great experience and would recommend to anyone traveling in the area.

I've known the Bratwurstglöckle since I was a child, but what happened today is hard to put into words...there was hardly anything to eat, the old menu no longer existed...they just seem to be geared toward young guests...My girlfriend and I were horrified...it was the last time we were there...what a shame...Unfortunately, Toni...the heart of the place, was also no longer there...

I decided to have schnitzel for my last dinner in Germany, so I googled "Mainz schnitzel" and dropped in without a reservation. Perhaps because it was a busy time and the place was crowded, the female waiter seemed to be in a bad mood both when I ordered and when I paid. It was also written on the wall and I was told when I ordered, but they only accepted cash. (It's unclear whether this was because of a machine malfunction or if that's normal.) I enjoyed the meal, which came with seasonal white asparagus and beer.

I had an Argentinian rump steak with asparagus and fries for about €37. The rump steak was supposed to be served medium. It was still slightly pink inside, but unfortunately, the steak was very dry. I definitely wouldn't order it again, nor would I recommend it to anyone. There were two other people who ordered steaks, and theirs were just as dry. But the asparagus with hollandaise sauce was very tasty. However, the price was significantly too high for the service. As an apology, I received a glass of Lillet.

I want to share an experience of discrimination I faced because I’m a foreigner. After ordering a dish, I realized it contained an ingredient I couldn’t eat. Within 3 minutes, I asked to change it to the same schnitzel but with a different sauce. However, the server rudely refused, saying it couldn’t be changed because the dish was already being cooked. Then, out of nowhere, server brought the dish I had wanted to change, placed it carelessly on the table, as if she were handing out free food at a distribution center. When I paid, I noticed I was charged around 4 euros more than what I got. It made me wonder: would I have been treated this way if I weren’t a foreigner? While I’ve met many kind Germans, this experience deeply hurt me. To other foreigners visiting here: be cautious.

We visit Mainz with our children two to three times a year and a visit to Glöckle is simply a must! The food is always very tasty (we have already tried some of the menu) and we have never been disappointed. The staff is always very friendly and never seems stressed (even when the restaurant is full) and the food is always perfect and fresh. Service + food is top! We can only recommend it and are already looking forward to our next visit!

Yesterday we went on a day trip to Mainz. We chose this restaurant because we found the price for the daily menu reasonable and the location was also great. Unfortunately we were really disappointed. I don't want to make false claims here, but I am 100% sure that the breaded redfish fillet was frozen. You just see things like that. In addition, the potato salad was definitely not homemade and the remoulade was also from a tube. That was really very disappointing because I don't even offer something like that to my boyfriend at home. You can't call that cooking and it simply doesn't work in a restaurant. Explains the cheap price. Even that was really too high for that. The wine we had as a spritzer didn't taste good at all. I couldn't drink my glass. And that is very unusual. We won't be going there again on our next visits. I'm just talking about the experience with our menu. I can't comment on the other dishes.

There are two stars for the fast and really friendly service as well as the delicious beer - unfortunately that was the only positive thing about our visit. The meal itself was a disappointment. Everything seemed like simple frozen food, far below what you would expect in a restaurant in terms of taste and quality. The grill plate was a disaster: the meat was only served lukewarm, the beef was completely cooked and dry, the schnitzel tasted like cheap frozen food. The feta-filled minced steak was completely missing - instead we got a compact, hard, dry industrial product from the cutter. The only thing you couldn't go wrong with was the bacon. The second dish was a complete miss as everything in it just smelled and tasted like a uniform fatty taste. The side salads and main courses were more reminiscent of a bad canteen than a restaurant. Conclusion: Absolutely not recommended. Anyone expecting good food will be disappointed here.

Went here spontaneously for dinner today, so the food was very good. Except for one small thing: my wife's asparagus wasn't peeled properly, but it was still very tasty. The service was courteous and attentive. Price performance is right and we would like to come back.

The Glöckle is located in the heart of Mainz, a 3-minute walk from the cathedral. Of course we sat at a table outside in the beautiful weather on Monday March 10th, 2025. I have been a vegetarian for 1.5 years, my husband is a flexotarian. Everyone will find something tasty on the menu. I had a baked potato with semolina sauce and a very fresh and delicious salad with a really good vinigret. It was tasty and fresh and there was absolutely enough of it. You sit directly in the pedestrian zone. If you don't like being watched by people passing by, you can sit in there. For me as a wheelchair user, the table was a little too low at the tables outside - but I'm happy to live with that for a delicious meal. The service was very quick and very friendly. We'll definitely be back...

Very tasty home cooking at fair prices in a nice inn atmosphere. We had a daily special from the table that was set up... delicious. Definitely worth recommending and we will stop by again and again when we are in town.

If you order the Schnitzel Trio, you can taste schnitzel in three different sauces at once. If you're wondering where to have your first schnitzel experience after coming to Germany, you might want to try this place. I know the taste of Mainz-style pasta, but it's greasy and salty, so it's delicious.

As satisfied as we were on our first visit shortly before Christmas, we didn't like it much when we were there last Monday. The first time it was quite full, but the service was super attentive, friendly and on the ball. Last Monday there was little going on and the very young wait staff stood around and chatted and an Asian young woman was probably in charge that evening. Half the time she talked to her colleagues, delivered the menus quickly but with little empathy, but the other half she sat in the corner with her cell phone or did the billing there in the middle around 8 p.m. The food was again very tasty, but the atmosphere was just not pleasant. If the staff stands around and chats more, it's just not comfortable. We would have liked to order drinks, but since no one came or asked, we paid and left. First of all, we won't be coming back.

Five of us came here for dinner after making a reservation. First to the positive points: The service was really exemplary and the waiters were very friendly. My wife's cordon bleu was also somehow tasteless and barely seasoned. A little ketchup would also have been nice, but we didn't ask, which is why the restaurant can't be blamed for this. All in all, we personally wouldn't eat there again, which is purely due to the food and not the restaurant as a whole.

A typical German pub, very close to the commercial pedestrian zone. During the summer, you can probably sit in front of the pub right on the pedestrian zone. The food was good, I tasted goulash soup, and some bratwurst, I don't remember the name. Draft beer was good, circled. The service was nice, at dinner time it was full, it was necessary to look at the service to order a longer beer, then it came. The toilets were clean, the place was warm, but it was a bit noisy when the pub was full.

Customer service is not a priority here. The beer glass was not filled to the calibration mark and was only refilled after request. No one asked if it was tasty and the pumpkin soup was too salty and a thick paste. Almost the entire pot was left inedible. Nobody asked. Something like that is impossible

Although I grew up in this wonderful city, I have never been to Glöckle. Today, on the recommendation of my father, we are here for lunch. Nice, rustic, middle-class atmosphere and wonderfully delicious food. At least the sauerbraten. But given how busy the place is, this obviously applies to the rest of the menu.

Typical German dishes such as sausages, sauerkraut and mashed potatoes are available. I enjoyed the Knudel with mushroom cream sauce from the vegan menu. Comes with vegetable salad. Since it was a large amount, I left a little bit. My daughter ate the sausage and sauerkraut, but the sauerkraut was quite sour and there was a lot of it, so she ended up leaving some left over. My friend ordered red cabbage sauerkraut, boar and deer sausage, and mashed potatoes. I sampled the red cabbage sauerkraut and mashed potatoes and they were very delicious.
