YU GARDEN Restaurant Chinesisches Teehaus in Hamburg

Had dinner with the family, service ignored us. After we organized ourselves and several times When we spoke to service, it worked. We were rewarded with an excellent meal, but the ignorance was severe. Even repeat orders had to be made several times at the counter. The restaurant was only half open. Since the food was excellent, we are giving the YU Garden a second chance.

As always, very tasty, authentic food.

I have been in this enchanting atmosphere several times now. Asian food couldn't be more authentic!

We had a business lunch. The price-performance ratio is absolutely reasonable. The service is very friendly and attentive. We liked the food, especially since the spices were anything but "standard" = surprising and good. Despite its size, the restaurant is very cozy.

The food is pretty good. The service is very attentive and friendly. They have quite large and separated areas, this makes it ideal for any type of visit. Organize events, lunches for companies, friends, as a couple or alone.

I'm always wary of "best food I've tasted outside [inset relevant city]" reviews, but on a trip to Hamburg we gave Yu Garden a try. Seriously, the glowing reviews are warranted in this instance. An awesome exterior and interior. The food was cooked to perfection. The team very attentive but not overwhelming. If we ever visit Hamburg again, we'll definitely visit Yu Garden!

All in all a fantastic place to have proper authentic Chinese cuisine. We've had a very hot and spicy beef share platter. Staff was mindfully double checking if we can cope with it and yes we loved it. Service was super quick and attentive. You feel very welcomed from the beginning you enter. Great job!

We spontaneously went to eat there on a Sunday afternoon. There was a table without any problems. The atmosphere with the bar was very nice. The food was very good and also had a good spiciness. In many restaurants the seasoning is very German, but here it was bang. I had the Argentinian entrecote. The dish is juicy, but has no real sauce. That's why I found the rice added to be "disturbing" because you have to eat it more or less dry. Very good nice service. Definitely worth a visit.

You certainly pay for the ambience here. 24€ for normal fried noodles with chicken, the starter tastes like it came out of the packaging, the service is very stressed, cocktails are much too strong and actually only taste like alcohol.

Food and ambience great. It was a bit loud, which was probably due to the full capacity. Definitely a must in Hamburg!

We weren't thrilled. The dim sum looked like it was covered in jelly and smelled unpleasant. The beef was so tough it was impossible to enjoy. The significantly overpriced prices are absolutely not matched by the quality of the food.

A unique restaurant! You can see the effort in the details. Food was great (cold starter plate unfortunately too cold “fridge cold”) everything else was well seasoned. The Yu Garden Restaurant brings a piece of China to Hamburg and impresses with authentic cuisine in an atmospheric ambience. The homemade dumplings and diverse dishes from different regions of China are fresh, plentiful and tasty. The restaurant is often busy and not exactly cheap, but for lovers of real Chinese flavors it is a special experience and absolutely worth a visit.

The first thing you notice is the beautiful outdoor area. The restaurant not only offers a sensory experience for the taste buds, but also impresses with an appealing visual ambience. The service was very attentive and responded excellently to my wishes (allergy sufferers). The food itself was extremely tasty. Made with fresh ingredients and aesthetically pleasing. Full five stars! Only the volume was really loud. I asked for a quiet table when making the reservation, but this obviously couldn't be accommodated. This was actually a major distraction for me and meant that I couldn't enjoy the food as much as I should have. After the visit, my ears and those with me were ringing. I would therefore be very happy if such requests could be addressed in more detail in future reservations. Had this not been the case, we would have been completely satisfied.

Super delicious food - especially the baked duck with wok vegetables was a dream. Very nice service staff. The ambience outside is fantastic and extremely romantic in the evening. Unfortunately we didn't have a nice table, right at the entrance next to the cutlery sorting, but as we walked through the restaurant it became clear that there were much nicer seats. There is definitely no mainstream food here, but really quality and even more unusual dishes. I would come back at any time.

This is how Chinese food works in a great ambience from the tea house. We had lunch according to the lunch menu. Soup and salad with shrimp and I had spring roll followed by Hunan spicy chicken. Full marks for each

It feels like you are in the middle of China, the service is incredibly good, fast and friendly. The food is also very good in terms of price and tastes excellent. In addition to more exotic Asian dishes, there are also more Western dishes with an Asian touch on the menu. Always my pleasure!

It was great again at Yu Garden.

The location is very beautiful and special and the food is totally authentic. There is a good selection of food. What we didn't like was the waiting time after we sat down at the table and when we wanted to pay. The beginning and end of the stay were therefore characterized by a lot of waiting. However, the food itself came very quickly.

Die Pekingente als Vorspeise war umwerfend gut. Toller Geschmack. Als Hauptgericht dann die "Reste" der Pekingente und das geröstete Bauchfleisch. Super. Kellner sehr nett und haben nebenbei auch viele Kochfragen beantwortet. Gerne wieder.

Bei schönstem Wetter werden drei kleine Tische direkt vor dem Eingang eingedeckt. Trotz genügend Kapazitäten an Tischen und Stühlen wurde ich abgewiesen. Ein absolutes no go. 1 Stern ist noch zu viel.

Worst hospitality we've ever had - and food lukewarm

Beautiful Restaurant. Around 17:30 there were not so many people so we could enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant, but from 18:00 getting too crowded. Staffs are caring but can see they are stressed. We ordered a whole roasted Peking duck, tasted wonderful! I prefer the sauce here to the original one; the sauce tastes more peanutty. 3 pieces of dimsum were ok but not juicy enough. The red wine 'Wild pony' tastes flat than it's description. But definitely we would like to visit here again with our family.

Best Chinese restaurant in Hamburg, great service and very good food, including the duck

The ambience is very pleasant, the food is okay, but the service only deserves three stars.

Very good Asian restaurant. Not quite as cheap but still okay.

Ambiance outside, ok ("requires care") A little too loud in the restaurant. The food was ok. 1 dish was wrong (instead of tempura of cod fillet, there was grilled cod fillet/including various bones) I still ate it because the service wasn't working so well and we wanted to eat together. Overall conclusion, ok.

We were there a few days ago. We had ordered a table and when we entered the restaurant we stood in the entrance for a while and were ignored even though the restaurant was only half full. Finally a service employee spoke to us and assigned us a table. After twenty minutes in which we were skillfully ignored, we received the card when we asked. There were three service staff on duty! We each ordered a starter and a main course. The food was really good, after clearing the table we each ordered a drink. As soon as we had finished drinking the service employee came and said: then pay now! So after 1.5 hours including 20 minutes of non-observance, this is really remarkable behavior. We weren't asked if we wanted a dessert or something similar. want. Since we didn't behave conspicuously in any way, it was an absolute disgrace and bordered on being thrown out, even though, as I said, not even half of the seats were occupied. Hospitality and good service is different. Our conclusion: The food was ok, everything else, including the cleanliness of the restaurant and the service apart from a friendly young employee, was impossible. Clearly not recommended, it's better to just order food away from home. We will not recommend the Yugarden to anyone and will not stop there again.

A really great Chinese restaurant. The ambience was great coupled with really amazingly delicious food. We would love to come back.

We were very impressed and had a lovely evening. Misunderstandings only arose due to some communication problems. The portions are very rich!

Beautiful property and good food.

The food is great, there's really nothing to complain about. Very authentic, I feel like I've been transported back to China. However, I also feel like I've been transported to China when it comes to the ambience and the service. Used napkins were under the table. That shouldn't happen in a restaurant of this class. The service is okay. Unfortunately, since we weren't sitting in the main room, we were somewhat forgotten and had to wait a very long time to place our order. The noise level was very Chinese. Unfortunately, I don't know why the waiter who brought the bills to the individual tables had to shout so loudly that everyone noticed who had to pay how much with card or cash. All in all, it's still one of the best restaurants in the city!

The staff was super friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and tasty, some traditional dishes for some dishes.

Food is great! But poor service. We ordered duck, pork, tofu and jasmine tea. All good, I would have liked more variety of vegetables but the flavour was great. However, once we arrived and were taken to our table, nobody approached, we had to stand up and take a menu. We kept waiting, nobody came, tried to ask three different waiters and after 35 min we could order. Food came and one person didn’t have any cutlery or napkins. Funny thing is they even asked for tip ?!

The waiters strangely ignore you and the food is at best snack quality. You pay twice as much, sometimes 2.5 times, and the food doesn't taste any better than the cheapest Asian restaurant next door. You pay for the location. The price is completely excessive for the quality.

Professioneller Service, allerdings extrem unverbindlich. Kellner war nicht in der Lage, zwei Glas Champagner als Aperitif zu servieren; sehr ärgerlich, weil wir einen Grund zum Feiern hatten. Das Essen (Pekingente) sehr lecker; Aufpreis für 10 weitere Fladen (8,50 €) extrem heftig und m. E. nicht angemessen. Insgesamt enttäuschend.

Excellent restaurant with a special ambience. The food was really very good, think really close to traditional dishes. I can recommend the roasted pork belly with a clear conscience :)

Service was inattentive, food was cold, not customer oriented. The fork was still in the food after we complained and got it back. Microwave?? We were promised much more, what a shame!

Waited half an hour. The waiter walked past us several times, noticed us but completely ignored us. It wasn't full! Then we left! Doesn't have to be!

Everything was perfect here: the taste, the atmosphere, the service. The two of us had the Peking duck for two courses and it was totally sufficient. In fact, we had a hard time eating it all. We were particularly enthusiastic about the second course, the vegetables with Szechuan pepper, because it always tastes bland elsewhere, but here it was a taste explosion. The only suggestion for improvement for the wraps: instead of a large pot of hoisin sauce, we would prefer 3 small pots with e.g. hoisin, hot chili sauce and sweet plum sauce. At least we also received a request for the chili sauce. The Chinese garden outside is particularly beautiful. We sat there at the end and had another drink. There were also blankets there in case it was too cold.

The Peking duck was good, but both the kitchen and the service were apparently overwhelmed by the number of guests.

I've been to Yu Garden six times. The quality is always exactly the same! The food comes quickly and hot, the vegetables are crunchy (perfect). The only points of criticism I can mention are the chairs and now also the prices. Seating comfort for longer periods of sitting isn't really there - it's very hard. For the vegetables (pak choy + a few shitake mushrooms) you now pay €19.50 as a main course (it's actually more of a side dish). I find it too expensive. For two (veggies) we have: - 1 x Pak Choi with Shiitake mushrooms (great) - 1 x Mapo Tofu (excellent) - 2 x mushroom mix (2 * because legendary :-) Already paid €82 without drinks. And yet I will happily come back here again and again because the quality of the food is incredibly good! Keep it up!

Super environment and textbook duck

I want to go back as some food from other tables smelled amazing, that got me pretty excited to try this place out. To this point I still dont know what smelled so good, but we decided to order whatever was the most appealing to us from the menu. The food got served quite quickly. When our food arrived it was pretty tasty, but it didnt meet my expectations built by the previous smell, as a final remark i think it is a bit overpriced. We ordered 1 entry and 2 main dishes, 1 beer/tee per person, and the bill was already 74 euros, im new in hamburg so idk if it is in the normal range of prices, might be! I will definitely go back as the decoration is perfect for spending a nice evening with friends or a date. And maybe if im lucky, get to try one of the dishes that smelled amazing.

Ich war mit einem Freund hier, der gerade aus einem längeren Aufenthalt in Shanghai zurückgekehrt war. Ich fand das Essen ganz prima und er meinte, das schmeckt ausgezeichnet und wie in China.

The restaurant has a great ambience. Really great and impressive. The service is... to put it politely... tried hard. The drinks came quickly and our order was also taken (paper & pen). After waiting for an hour, we asked for our order, but it couldn't be found in the system. The waiter hadn't transferred it. Therefore I can't judge the food. We left the restaurant still hungry. During the entire hour, no waiter asked whether we would like something to drink or whether everything was OK. That's definitely better. There too.

On the terrace today we had beef fillet cooked in hot chili oil with Sichuan spices and vegetables for two people, but we ordered it less spicy (see picture). It was again very tasty and the service team was very friendly and attentive. A lunch at Yu Garden is always a pleasure in every respect, it is one of our favorite places. Another wonderful evening at Yu Garden with delicious dishes and a friendly and attentive service team. It is always an experience to eat at the Chinese complex Yu Garden. As always, the food was very tasty and the service staff, as usual, were very friendly and attentive. The entire facility is a gift from Hamburg's twin city Shanghai, and the property was donated by the city of Hamburg. The facility is an interplay of culture and modernity. With the houses, the cloister, the waterfall and the green area, you might think you are in China.

Auf der Terrasse hatten wir heute im scharfen Chilli-Öl gegartes Rinderfilet mit Sichuan Gewürzen und Gemüse für 2 Personen, haben es aber weniger scharf bestellt (s. Bild). Es war wieder sehr lecker und das Serviceteam sehr freundlich und aufmerksam.

Wir hatten einen leckeren und netten Abend im Yu Garden, essen war top wie immer und auch die Cocktails waren super :) Leider fanden wir den Tisch dafür dass wir reserviert haben sehr sporadisch, ich komme selbst aus der Gastronomie umd würde so ein Tisch jemand geben der als unreserviert kommt ehrlich gesagt. Wir werden trotzdem wieder kommen und dieses Lokal empfehlen.

The food was nothing special, and the service was awful. It seemed like the staff were a bit racist toward Asians, as they only praised the German customers. One of my friends ordered a beer, and they served him an already opened bottle that had been sitting in the sun. Naturally, we asked for a cold, unopened one instead. When we asked for the bill and paid, we noticed that the amount we paid was different from the amount on the bill. They had included a 10% tip without informing us. We ended up giving them more than a 10% tip because we didn't realize this. When we questioned the discrepancy, the staff responded in a rude tone. Overall, it was a bad experience that felt like a scam.

Because of the nice atmosphere and the good reviews, we wanted to try a new restaurant. Unfortunately it was more than a disappointment. To make a long story short, you are not greeted, then someone comes to the table: "YES". This is an invitation to order. Drinks came quite quickly, when we asked for ice cubes we were given a small glass with ice cubes and rubbish (very worn metal lid). This is not acceptable! After commenting that something like that wasn't right, I received a condescending answer: "They're just lids." Then I paid and got out. Simply outrageous.

Beautiful location that is reminiscent of Shanghai. Super tasty lunch but the other dishes are also highly recommended. 🥰

In short: Be very AWARE to eat at this place, if you're not German or/and don't speak German. The food is NOT really worth the price. In long: my friends and I wanted to try this place for a long time and got the chances to finally do it. Upon seeing the score on google (4.3), we were pretty confident that this restaurant was worth a try. This assumption was easily turned upside down after these things happened: 1. While ordering, the waiter gave me an already opened beer in front of my eyes, which was already not a good thing. I asked for a change and they did it. 2. The waiter pressed a friend, while he's still deciding to choose what to drink. I've worked in gastro in my college years and this is a no go. 3. This peaked my interest to look at google reviews. Boy oh boy, there were complains about the service in general and open racism towards foreigners. Tbh this reduced my appetite. 4. They were looking at our table in a subjectively demeaning way, didn't ask about how the food was etc. 5. During payment, the waiter just gave me the card reader with the price, which I thought was really not that weird at first and we normally give tips, because we know how hard it is to work as a server. Then, when I received the bill, there were 15€ difference 🤯. I asked why, he showed me, that he just tip himself a bloody 10%!!! I was so shocked and not in the mood for a fight over 15€ so we went home and swore to never go back again. Plus, the waiter had the audacity to shake our hands at the end, which was really mind boggling. I know a few far better chinese restaurants in Hamburg, that's respectful to any guests. At the time, I was really not proud of being a chinese descendant. My thought: they are really confident of their regulars, that they treat foreigners awfully. I advise you to really think 10x before eating here and look for other chinese restaurants first. Hopefully, you don't encounter this behavior. 1/5 is already stretching it.

The ambience invites you to linger for a long time, it is extremely pleasant and even stylish in YU GARDEN, and the location also exudes a great sense of calm. However, my family's dishes seemed more perfect than mine. Of course I know what I'm getting into with fried noodles with chicken, but the dish could have been a little less dry and perhaps a little surprise for the taste buds. So: to match the wonderful ambience, maybe a little more creativity in the kitchen?!? A small note: I would remove all clothing and other items (from the staff?) from the area, that would be suitable to improve the mood again :-).

The venue is very cool, it is very well decorated. In general the food and atmosphere is great, prices somewhat high but adequate for the standing of the place. The service is somewhat slow and dry but they serve everything perfectly. Very good food and within Chinese food they offer all kinds of food, meat, fish, pasta...

Great restaurant, a real gem located in a quiet residential area. Unfortunately, the noise level inside is very high, but the garden and terrace are just great. Food is good, unfortunately a bit missing from being too very good. The price structure can be assigned to the higher category.

A group of us who were in town for a conference, all highly educated scientists, from all over the world, who also happened to be brown and non-German speaking, visited this restaurant on July 11th, Thursday around 7-7:30 PM. The head waiter was super rude. He could not communicate in English, but our French friend tried to speak with him in German. Throughout service, he was rude and impatient with us and kept telling us to hurry up with ordering when we were asking questions. The food was mediocre, all the people saying on here that this was authentic Chinese food and very good, have never eaten authentic and good Chinese food. I'm from the US, and we have excellent restaurants here with amazing food and great, courteous service. We were so disgusted by his treatment of us, especially as he forcibly added a 10% tip without our permission. When I discovered what he was doing, he insisted it's mandatory in Hamburg to add 10% tip automatically. That is not true, tips are reserved for good service and are up to the discretion of the customer. Normally, I always add tip, but I have never encountered such rude, horrible service anywhere in the world!!!! Afterwards, our friend who understands a bit of German overheard him bitching about us to another customer and he even made a rude gesture to us, when we were leaving! Can you believe the audacity?! This guy is an awful, awful human who shouldn't be in the restaurant/hospitality business, and I hope the owner deals with him. I never wish ill on someone, but I sincerely hope karma prevails! From what I've read of some of the reviews below, there are other POCs who also had a terrible experience dining here, so please consider this a PSA!!!! Very friendly staff. Good food and pleasant atmosphere.

The Peking duck is really tasty and recommended; For us it was enough for 3 people, but that depends on how hungry you are. The Cantonese Barbecue Pork Bun was also delicious. The dough got a little too much moisture but overall they were good. Unfortunately, the Dim Sum Mix was less convincing: all the dumplings had a shrimp filling. A pleasant surprise for some, less so for others and should therefore be mentioned on the menu. In terms of taste, the mix was rather monotonous. The dim sum platter with black truffles joins the mix. 2 of 3 varieties are also included in the Dim Sum Mix (the white and the green), so the higher price compared to 2x Mix (approx. €7 more) is due to the 6 slices of truffles. The price-performance ratio wasn't really good for me. The dumplings with meat and broth were the most disappointing, as all 3 dumplings were full of holes and there was no sign of the broth...

As always, a great restaurant. Location is great and attractively designed. The vibes really come across. The food is tasty and well prepared. The last time I was there with friends and we had whole duck for 3 people including all the trimmings. That was unique. This time I had half the bone-in duck. It was delicious. Unfortunately I wasn't informed that the duck comes cut up. So some parts were just bones and others I would have to scar like a tiger. Again the breasts and thighs were as you would imagine. I just wanted to read that on the menu, then it would have been a different dish. My wife had the duck fried.(boneless) That was also very tasty. As always, the sauce was great and the vegetables were perfect. Not too well done and not too raw. And plenty. About the ambience: Very nicely decorated but too loud. I would perhaps put something between the wooden panels to reduce the sound. Still, full recommendation!!

The Chinese restaurant Yu Garden in Hamburg offers an authentic atmosphere that feels like a trip to China. The Peking duck was good, but a bit bland in taste. Nevertheless, Yu Garden is definitely a different kind of Chinese and worth a visit.

Very good food, large portions, friendly staff

This is definitely a MUST try if you are in the area of Hamburg and on the lookout for real, authentic Chinese food!! Not only do they serve the BEST Peking Duck that I/we have tried outside of Beijing (and I have triede many) this is by far the best and most authentic and best tasting food in the "Northern part" of Europe (until I am proven wrong)!! I/we will come here again to eat - no doubt - we will even drive a detour to come and eat here...

Beautiful location, traditional Chinese style, exceptional menu with excellent quality products, generous portions and honest prices especially for Hamburg!!! It's really worth it! Peking duck must try!!!

It's really super super expensive, so please pay attention to the menu. The waiter wanted me to give him an extra pinch of salt out of shame.
