A unique location in Hamburg with very authentic Chinese food. The service is very friendly. We made a reservation and dined here as a couple. For starters, I had two spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce. For the main course, there was cod fillet with stir-fried vegetables. The food was delicious. However, I missed the hotplate, and a lid for the rice bowl would have been helpful. For dessert, there were sesame balls with lotus paste and fruit – I highly recommend it. Overall, the restaurant is very nice and definitely worth a visit. The price/performance ratio here is a bit more expensive.

We had a wonderful evening at the Yu Garden Restaurant 😊 The atmosphere was fantastic, and it felt like a vacation – for me, this is one of the nicest Chinese restaurants in Hamburg. The food is good, and you get typical Chinese fare – but for my taste, it could use a bit more spice and more Asian spices. I had the feeling they use the spices very sparingly to please the Germans. The dessert was good again, though – we had sesame balls with lotus filling, and it tasted very authentic 🤗 It would be nice if they had a hot plate for the food, like you find in other Chinese restaurants. The service was also fast and friendly. However, the price-performance ratio was a bit too high for the quality, in my opinion. I give it a solid 7.5 out of 10 and can recommend it based on the location 👍🏻

Top-quality food with fast and super friendly service in a lovely Chinese atmosphere.

The food was good, but not excellent. Too much meat was cut into the Peking duck. The service was chaotic, slow, and uncoordinated. There were very long waits for both drinks and food. The value for money was still good, but I wouldn't recommend the restaurant.

The people in this restaurant are quite friendly to the locals, but the Chinese don't seem to be treated quite as warmly—you don't get a "thank you" when you pay, and you don't even get a greeting when you leave.

We spent a short vacation in China yesterday. The Chinese teahouse/restaurant "Yu Garden" is simply impressive. We have a "piece of the Far East" here in the heart of Hamburg. We tried several dishes and were always delighted. Everything was perfect and perfectly seasoned. The staff was also fantastic. We sat on the terrace in beautiful weather. And what was special was that we didn't hear anything from outside. Not a single car noise, traffic, etc. Just the pleasant music from the speakers. It really felt like we were on vacation. The weather was also a great help, of course… warm and windless. The evening lighting was also a feast for the eyes. Parking was easy to find right in front of the door. We'll be back. Keep up the great work.

We came all the way from Bremen. We felt very comfortable, the service was very friendly, and we had a dish with duck, among other things, which was so incredibly delicious. We've never had such a delicious meal anywhere else. Thank you very much, it was worth the trip.

I wanted to go there with a few friends because I'd read some nice reviews. A quick test meal beforehand. Now I'm foregoing further visits. Alas! The YU Garden was certainly once a great location, but unfortunately, the restaurant management is unable to post a current price list here or in the display case by the street. As a result, the prices of the dishes are now around €4-€6 more expensive than indicated on both of the lists mentioned. The restaurant's architecture and ambiance certainly make it an interesting destination, and I also found the service very appealing. Friendly staff, no matter who we spoke to. We were warmly welcomed and shown to a table. Within 10 minutes, we were asked about our drink preferences, which were fulfilled within five. Our food orders arrived at the table in about 15 minutes. We were also asked whether the food tasted good. - I have to deduct points for: 1. The stated price difference between the posted menus and the actual menu in the restaurant. 2. The restrooms are clean and quite modern, but a brush could significantly improve at least the men's restroom (damp and dark stains on the walls). The same probably applies to the women's restrooms. 3. We had pork belly and duck, each with wok-fried vegetables. Both the vegetables and meat were delicious, but unfortunately—and this is where our European palate comes into play—the "Hoisin" sauce was not our cup of tea at all. A dark, slightly spicy, and very malty sauce, very thick and unsightly. BUT: Perhaps there are some Asian cuisine connoisseurs here who can enlighten us. I finally spoke to the assistant restaurant manager and pointed out the price differences. I'm curious to see whether both lists will be updated soon. He promised: "I'll pass this on." :-)

Really great food with good service. However, the gardens, pond, and the rest of the outdoor area could use a bit of attention.

For me, it used to be the "Chinese" restaurant par excellence in Hamburg. I've known this restaurant since it opened. The food is still excellent. Unfortunately, the service currently leaves a lot to be desired. It's poor. Upon entering the restaurant, no one seems to feel responsible. You're not greeted, and you have to wait a long time until you're seated. If you're seated and don't make yourself known, you simply won't be served (I was alone this time). What a shame!

We wanted to eat at this lovely restaurant today. Unfortunately, even after 25 minutes at our table, we weren't served; we weren't even given a menu. What a shame.

You'll receive a very friendly welcome and service. All the staff are very attentive. The interior is a blend of traditional and modern. The outdoor area is very traditional. The restrooms are very clean and tidy. The food is super authentic and extremely tasty. The crispy pork belly is highly recommended. The meal was also delivered very quickly. All in all, everything is simply perfect, and I would be happy to come back.

I've never eaten worse Peking duck. The duck was limp after four minutes on the plate, it had no flavor, and the hoisin sauce was warm, flavorless goo. I'll never have Peking duck there again. I can't comment on the taste of the other dishes. The ambiance is nice. The service is quite attentive.

We drove from Bremen because several friends recommended it to us. It was absolutely worth it! Absolutely loved Yu Garden! It feels like a little escape to China right in the city—with traditional architecture, koi ponds, and a peaceful courtyard. The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor (we especially enjoyed the Shanghai-style dishes). It’s a calm, relaxing spot with great service—perfect for a quiet lunch or just soaking in the atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!

Really a great place and the duck was great

Been there several times. Everything was great. Just two minor criticisms: At least one meal offered a choice between barbecue or sweet and sour sauce. It was certainly our fault for not mentioning the sweet and sour sauce. However, they simply didn't ask and brought the barbecue sauce. And unfortunately, there were no hot plates for the food, so it cooled down considerably after a short time. Next time, we'll point these points out directly on site. Otherwise: delicious food, great service. We'll be back!

First, we waited 20 minutes before a waiter even came. The menu listed boneless roasted duck, but what arrived was more like the typical deep-fried duck with stir-fried vegetables that you'd find at any Asian snack bar. The duck was very dry, and the stir-fried vegetables were bland. It's a shame, having traveled 600km because it's supposed to taste very good and authentic here. Because of all the social media hype and other people's posts, our expectations were high. We often like to go to Chinese restaurants and almost always order the roasted duck. For €32 per person (without drinks), you'd expect something good here. The location was very nice, very traditional, and with lots of wood. The food and service really need to be improved.

The ambiance of this restaurant is unbeatable, and sitting outside on the terrace is a delight, especially in summer. The food and wine selection are also excellent, and the service is very professional and attentive. It would be fascinating to experience a tea ceremony sometime.

The business lunch is on the high end for a lunch menu, but the quality is good. The service could be a bit more attentive. If you can sit outside in nice weather, you feel like you're in Shanghai. The architecture is very much a replica of the real Shanghai New Garden.

This was our second time here, and we really enjoyed it again. Seven of us had the surprise menu, which was very authentic. The price/performance/service was excellent.

Maybe I had too high expectations, I don't know. A top location and generally average food. The staff is untrained. Some of the guest areas were dirty. There's a definite lack of attention to detail. The restaurant is still an undiscovered gold mine if it were in the right hands. What a shame...

Best Chinese in Hamburg in a dream ambience

Never again... Couldn't get a seat on the terrace, even though there were plenty of free tables. Waited forever for the server. The kids' meal was totally peppery = returned. My soup tasted absolutely nothing, and the salad was gritty, tasteless, and without any dressing. No thanks, we won't be back.

Terrible service. Four of us were here this evening with a 7 p.m. reservation. After 30 minutes, we were noticed, given menus, and allowed to order. After 60 minutes, I asked for our drinks at the bar. Someone else came, again with menus. Then someone came and asked for our drink order again and actually found it on one of their slips of paper. The drinks arrived, one of which was not the quantity I ordered. Three appetizers and three main courses were served. My appetizer arrived five minutes after my main course. The fourth main course didn't arrive at all and had to be reordered. Everything was very unloving and the taste was below average. We won't go there again, even though it could be nice on the terrace.

On our first visit, we were very impressed by the authentic ambiance. On our second visit, we focused more on the food and found it less authentic: While the taste was pleasant, it offered little surprise or challenge. The food didn't compare favorably with experiences in China or the smaller food stalls we've visited in Germany. Everything seemed very much tailored to German tastes. We would have preferred more intense and surprising flavor experiences.

We had Peking duck. It was super delicious and very filling. It was prepared right at our table. The staff was very friendly.

We were here on a Sunday lunchtime and were the only customers for quite some time. The food was great, although I've had better dim sum. The facility is truly impressive, but also a bit dated and could use a bit of TLC. The restaurant interior, however, was very nice. The only real downside was the service; our drink and food orders took 15 minutes to take, even though we were the only customers at the time. However, we were served after the waiter had finished his lunch.

YU GARDEN was the best Chinese restaurant I've ever eaten at. Very attentive and friendly staff, top-quality food with excellent taste. Yes, the prices are higher than usual, but they're completely reasonable for the quality. I'll definitely be returning to this place for culinary delights on my next trip to Hamburg.

This place is one of the best Chinese restaurants that I have visited. I tried meals from A la carte menu, but also from the Bussines lunch menu. The ingredients were fresh and aromatic, meals were done perfectly. Atmosphere, food, and staff were perfect, but for me, there was one thing that stood above all - the overall calmness of this place. I would be more than pleased to visit this place on my journeys in the future.

A total disaster! The table was reserved. After 15 minutes, we asked if we could order. The response was extremely rude. We could see that it was full and we would have to wait. Furthermore, the place was very messy and somewhat unkempt. The food, some of which was being wheeled around on old serving carts, didn't look very appetizing either. We decided to leave.

A truly great Chinese restaurant. Authentic ambiance and fantastic food. Because it was very busy, it took a while for a server to arrive, but otherwise it was really great. We'll be back.

Super nice ambiance, inside and out, very good menus with everything that's typically Chinese (not a "plate of seven delicacies" with rice). The Peking duck is highly recommended: crispy and not at all dry, and the xiao long bao are also homemade.

Authentic place and good selection of foods

A lovely oasis with good, authentic food in the beautifully situated park behind the Marks Museum. The ambiance, with its large terrace and well-spaced indoor seating, reflects Asian culture. My favorite dishes are dim sum and the filled yeast dough dumplings.

An PF Chang in Germany. If you are an American, you know what it means when it comes to the authenticity of the food being served.

The ambiance is magnificent. From the outdoor area to the building to the decor...it's like being somewhere else. The food was also delicious. The tempera shrimp is fantastic. The duck was also excellent. I'd be happy to go back.

We ate duck with sweet and sour sauce. Unfortunately, the duck was extremely unappetizing and barely edible. The skin was extremely wobbly, the meat was of inferior quality and drenched in fat. The sauce consisted of an indefinable, thick liquid without any fruit, such as the usual pineapple. We asked the staff to rework the duck. Unfortunately, we got back an even greasier duck with wobbly skin and a disgusting appearance. We have probably never had such bad Chinese food. In the end, we stopped eating the food, paid, and left very disappointed. We do not recommend this restaurant. If you want to enjoy delicious Chinese food in Hamburg, you should go to another restaurant.

Great place, I recommend it to everyone

There were four of us, we had made a reservation, and we were immediately assigned our table. It's a huge place, with a large outdoor area. (It's very loud inside, so a conversation can only be had at a moderate volume.) The food was very good, with a very good selection. Drinks were also reasonably priced and of good quality (at least those from Weinkontor Rindchen). Ordering drinks took a long time! Despite all that, we'll definitely be back!

Curious, I went there... The food was great, BUT the main course was unfortunately only lukewarm (rice, meat, etc.). By the time I got to the restaurant, it was already cold. The surroundings seemed a bit dated, but everything was still okay. The service was good; I don't know if they took my comment about the cold food seriously. The best part was the heavy metal music in the background 😅, I wasn't expecting that. It didn't really fit, especially since the music was quiet and all you could hear were screams and some guitar riffs.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Germany I have seen so far. The atmosphere is incredible. The architecture, pond and plants look so nice, that I should remove 1 point for atmosphere for every other restaurant I have seen so far, to make it fair. And the best thing is, that even the food itself is amazing. It's not excessively salty like in other restaurants that "adapted" by using more salt. I can recommend the seafood dishes, tofu and all vegetable dishes.

We came specifically for the tea house. But it doesn't specialize in tea. Just a regular tea bag in a pot for €8. It wasn't served with any ceremony, either. White tea is allowed to brew for a maximum of three minutes, and removing the tea bag was impossible.

Wonderfully beautiful garden and delicious food

I had the crispy roasted pork belly on vegetables - the taste was really great, everything was excellently prepared and there was absolutely nothing to complain about. The service was very friendly at the beginning: we were served attentively and warmly when ordering, serving and clearing away. However, another employee was responsible for paying, who unfortunately seemed rather rude. It felt like he wanted to get rid of us quickly. No “goodbye” or anything like that. I was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere in the restaurant. I wouldn't have thought that there would be such a beautiful building in the middle of Rotherbaum. Really a great atmosphere! Overall, the price-performance ratio was reasonable, even if it was on the more expensive side. Despite small compromises in service in the end, I can clearly recommend the restaurant overall.

On the terrace today we had beef fillet cooked in hot chili oil with Sichuan spices and vegetables for two people, but we ordered it less spicy (see picture). It was again very tasty and the service team was very friendly and attentive. A lunch at Yu Garden is always a pleasure in every respect, it is one of our favorite places. It is always an experience to eat at the Chinese complex Yu Garden. As always, the food was very tasty and the service staff, as usual, were very friendly and attentive. The entire complex is a gift from Hamburg's sister city Shanghai, and the property was donated by the city of Hamburg. The facility is an interplay of culture and modernity. With the houses, the cloister, the waterfall and the green area, you might think you are in China.

Der Yu Garden in Hamburg ist ein beeindruckendes Beispiel traditioneller chinesischer Architektur und zugleich ein sichtbares Zeichen der Städtepartnerschaft zwischen Hamburg und Shanghai. Er befindet sich direkt hinter dem MARKK (ehemals Völkerkundemuseum), im Stadtteil Rotherbaum. Die Anlage wurde nach dem Vorbild des berühmten Yuyuan-Teehauses aus der Ming-Dynastie in Shanghai errichtet und bildet ein harmonisches Ensemble aus verschiedenen Gebäuden, Pavillons und einem Garten im klassischen chinesischen Stil. Das Restaurant ist integraler Bestandteil dieser Anlage, aber nur ein Teil des gesamten kulturellen und architektonischen Konzepts. Wir besuchten den Yu Garden im Rahmen eines kleinen Treffens mit Freunden. Preislich empfanden wir das Angebot als angemessen, besonders im Hinblick auf die besondere Atmosphäre und das authentisch gestaltete Ambiente. Dank eines unserer Freunde, der chinesische Wurzeln hat, konnten wir auch ein paar interessante Einblicke gewinnen. Dabei fiel uns auf, dass das aufmerksame und freundliche Personal aus unterschiedlichen asiatischen Ländern stammt – ein sympathischer Aspekt, der zur kulturellen Vielfalt des Ortes beiträgt. Wir entschieden uns für das Peking-Enten-Menü und ein paar Vorspeisen, das preislich eher im unteren bis mittleren Segment angesiedelt war. Geschmacklich war die Ente für mich persönlich absolut in Ordnung – zumal es meine erste Peking-Ente überhaupt war. Unser chinesischer Freund hingegen merkte an, dass es in Hamburg durchaus Lokale gebe, in denen diese Spezialität noch authentischer oder raffinierter zubereitet werde. Die Vorspeisen waren sehr gut. Alles in allem ist der Yu Garden nicht nur wegen seines kulinarischen Angebots, sondern vor allem aufgrund seiner besonderen Atmosphäre und der liebevoll gestalteten Umgebung einen Besuch wert. Für ein entspanntes Essen mit Freunden oder kleinere private Anlässe eignet sich das Restaurant sehr gut – insbesondere, wenn man einen Hauch von fernöstlicher Kultur mitten in Hamburg erleben möchte.

A place with a fascinating atmosphere with its traditional Chinese architecture. Although it needs some maintenance, the garden you pass through on the way to the restaurant is really impressive. I ordered Wan Tan and Dim Sum Mix. It was really delicious and worth the price. I will go again, I recommend it.

I had dinner here with my wife. I ordered the Peking duck for myself which was really delicious. It doesn't get any better. My wife had surf and turf and she really enjoyed it too. We will definitely come back, we were very satisfied. The ambience and service were also great.

We enjoyed the food. The dishes were well prepared. Unfortunately, in the small adjoining room at the height of the chairs, the wall around it was very scuffed. So that you always looked at the dirty wall while eating. At home, a nogo. In the restaurant too, everything should at least be a little cleaner. The front room to be China. But if you put people back there, it should be clean there too.

O lugar é lindo! Vale muito a pena só pela decoração e a fonte. A casa de chás é encantadora. A comida é muito boa com o preço justo. As porções são enormes então eu pedi para mim um Noodles kids e uma porção de bao. Meu marido pediu o tradicional pato e era uma delícia. Tudo muito bem feito. O creme brule muito gostoso e crocante. Recomendo e quero voltar!

A WANG TANG soup that seemed to be infused with "hot water". Meat dishes ok but just ok. Vegetable side dish that had an overpowering garlic aroma and was therefore inedible. (Situation: Saturday evening, 6 p.m., it was very crowded and a bit hectic overall)
