I've never paid more for such a tiny dollop of tzatziki as an entire appetizer than I did here. The last time, my small plate was a third full. It's nice to give guests a little extra here and there despite the increased prices, and not be stingy and always give less. Yogurt with cucumber isn't exactly the most expensive thing in the world either.

May 2025 and never again Update: On the last visit, the restaurant was very empty. A wheelchair user was impossible to miss among six guests, and yet after walking past five times, the staff didn't even say hello, let alone ask for their order. The food was also barely warm, and you could count the fries. Apparently, wheelchair users aren't welcome. A huge drop in the ocean!

Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Waited over 60 minutes for the food. Fries were lukewarm, schnitzel was charred, and gyros had more fat than meat. Several guests had also complained loudly that evening. Perhaps a new chef? Unfortunately, not recommended.

Very disappointed 😞 After waiting an hour for the main course, we were appalled by the food. It wasn't beautifully presented (after all, you eat with your eyes). One dish was returned and replaced. Furthermore, the food wasn't warm. The location is beautiful and the staff were very friendly. They immediately passed on our concerns and even apologized.

Nice restaurant. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and very well organized. A large selection of food and drinks. Ordering was quick, and you didn't have to wait long for your food. Everyone enjoyed the food. There were several large groups in the restaurant that day, but everything was super organized and went smoothly. We also had a larger table of 11 people. Everyone got their food at once, which was great. The restaurant also has a very good basement, so even though it was very busy, it wasn't too loud.

Not recommended! Rump steak was extremely bad (had to return it immediately). Drinks only arrived after repeated requests! Better go somewhere else.

The two of us each ordered an ouzo grill plate. Gyro, 1 pork steak, and 1 delicious pork fillet skewer with rice/fries and onion tzatziki. 1 ouzo each. The food arrived promptly. The taste was excellent. The portions were generous. The meat was cooked well.👍 We would particularly like to emphasize the relaxed and communicative nature of the owner.👍👌 We had a very pleasant time together, which further enhanced the evening. We highly recommend this restaurant.

Yes...it was quite nice so far. It took a very long time for us to get something to eat. The chairs and tables are fine in themselves...but they don't match the height of the tables, so eating like that isn't very comfortable. The obligatory ouzo was served at the end...but they asked beforehand who wanted it; at least it was warm! I've experienced it differently. During the meal, the meat was completely covered in sauce, so no one could really tell what was on the plate, except for maybe the canned pineapple. All in all, I'd say it was moderately good. Hello I generally find it difficult to write bad reviews; I prefer only good ones, or none at all. Ypsilon was unfortunately a disappointment for me. However, it's not a Greek-run restaurant. The food is definitely of the quality you'd expect from a snack bar. If you appreciate cold beer, you should have it at home beforehand or in the drinking hall, where both draft and bottled beer were served warm. Free ice cubes are available upon request. Fortunately, those who appreciate Mediterranean hospitality will still find many alternatives in the Ruhr area.

I've visited Ypsilon twice so far. I was invited both times. I wouldn't go there myself again. An appetizer, baked bread, I can't remember the name, only recommended with a very strong purchase; it was very crispy, almost rock-hard. Be careful with dishes topped with cheese. Too much of a good thing with the cheese.

The gyros was inedible. I sent the full plate back, and they didn't ask if there was a problem. Not recommended.

It was 2 p.m. and the restaurant wasn't full. But unfortunately, the wrong drink was delivered first, and then the wrong food. There were only five of us, and it shouldn't happen that one person has to wait for their food when the others were almost finished.

The food was good!...if you sit outside you have to pull the waiter over to get something to drink!...the only drawback was that we waited 15 minutes for the drinks but the food came 5 minutes later🤣👍

After my vacation in Greece, I rate the food as not quite typically Greek... but all in all, quite good.

The Ypsilon is always a great place! We've eaten here many times and have even hosted larger celebrations there! The food is always top-notch, the service unbeatable! Tried a new Greek for the first time. In any case we weren't disappointed. The meat was juicy and good. The waiters were quick and friendly. The ambience is also very good, the seating is really spacious and not so cramped. We will definitely stop by again. 👍

I actually wanted to go out to eat and actually I really felt like Greek... But after I had my drink in front of me (a draft wheat beer), I refrained from ordering food. I certainly won't be going back there any time soon, even though I walk past the restaurant every week...

Went to dinner with my friends...everything went great. The food and wine were great. After an hour we were literally thrown out by every waiter who was there that evening... with a dirty look at the clock. We'll look for another location for our next meeting.

Top location, top food, top service

Were there last night for a family meal (12 people), very full, the service took a long time.. The food was great, drinks were served incorrectly 😄... I wanted a sweet white wine, but got a tart one (which was also tasty). Very loud, the atmosphere is more like a train station 😄😄. If that doesn't bother you, spend a nice evening there. Price-performance ratio: works like this.

My husband and I have been there twice now and were very positively surprised with the food and service. I can only recommend it 👍👍👍❤️

I was at Ypsilon with the family today. The heated winter garden was now, in mid-December, very pleasant in a T-shirt and long trousers. The restaurant has nice staff and, in my opinion, a friendly clientele. We served for 13 people. After about 45 minutes of waiting, we were all served our main course at the same time. I found that impressive. The kitchen is flexible and open to wishes. I had the goulash soup as a starter and a rump steak (medium rare) with herb butter, roasted onions, fries, mayonaise and salad (No. 62) for €25.90 as the main course. The meat, but also the rest, was incredibly tasty. Clean toilets are available. A clear recommendation from me.

Ypsilon war bisher mein bevorzugtes Restaurant in Steele. Leider ist das Essen oft nur befriedigt wenn das Restaurant sehr voll ist. Und am Wochenende ist es immer voll. Das Püree war flüssig. Salate werden vergessen und das Hähnchenfleisch war nicht durchgebraten. Ich habe mich wirklich gekelt Ich finde das sehr Schade.

We were there again recently with five people, ordered the same dishes as on our previous visits and this time we were really shocked by the small portions. There were just two forks of gyros on the ouzo plate and very few fries, previous times there were significantly more. Exactly the same tragedy on the Ypsilon plate and the Anamikta apo to Grill plate. We hope that this was a negative exception and that next time we get reasonable portions so that you are full! The taste remained good, and the Bernaise sauce and Café de Paris sauce were also very tasty and plentiful. The tzatziki and saganaki are also very good. However, the wheat beer could have been chilled much better, unfortunately on all visits it wasn't really cold and therefore didn't taste that good. Update: Were there recently for lunch and had the grill plate. Super tasty, grilled to perfection and a really good portion. Overall it was also significantly quieter than in the evening. However, again the beer wasn't really cold, which we have complained about on all our visits in the past. This really needs to be improved urgently!!!

The food was great, the portions were large and everything was very hot, so you could eat every last piece of meat warm. Cooking points were wonderful and the meat was delicious. Unfortunately they forgot the gyros and onions on my Ypsilon plate. When I noticed this, they politely apologized and gave me the portion, which felt like it was triple the size. I thought that was absolutely fine. Nevertheless, the service could be a little more confident in order to get a 5-star rating. With a bill of 115 euros, I think you could buy an ouzo on the house. At least somewhere else I'm used to accidentally getting drunk after eating because the Greeks are welcoming and hospitable. In summary: food great, service okay, but not special. You can still recommend it with a clear conscience and go there again.

Yesterday we went to the Christmas market in Essen-Steele and my granddaughter and I urgently had to go to the toilet. I then asked in the restaurant if we could use the toilet. The employee said of course. When we went out again I wanted to give a little something, the other employee said that wasn't necessary. I have rarely experienced something so friendly and accommodating. Really great! Thanks again.

So the food was simply delicious. I don't think I've ever eaten so well at a Greek restaurant. Unfortunately the service is a disaster. I think it's because there aren't enough people and everyone takes orders at some point. I hope it gets better and I would like to come back.

Salad was already brown, no attention was paid to the fact that something had to be cleared away. Unfortunately the food was seasoned too loosely.

We celebrated our 50th birthday here yesterday and I have to say we were not disappointed. Quite the opposite. Although we discussed the process in the restaurant months ago and didn't contact them again in advance to see if everything was working, everything worked smoothly. The tables were lovingly set and the service staff did everything they could to make this evening an unforgettable get-together. The food was great, the starters with the fresh, still warm baguette were a culinary delight. All in all, if we would give six stars for the service alone, that would be possible. Thanks again.

To be honest, I can't really understand the hype surrounding this place! The positive thing is the location and that the restaurant is much larger and nicer than it looks from the main entrance. The winter garden is of course the highlight and you can sit very comfortably here. The service is really top! Very friendly, attentive and fun to have. You can imagine from the many good reviews that it is very well attended. We were there in July 2024 because my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday in a small group. We were there with 6 people and full of anticipation, as Ypsilon also has some fans among our neighbors. I'll start with the drinks. Soft drinks, such as cola, etc., weren't really cold and somehow lacked some carbon dioxide. It was as if the Coke had been sitting somewhere for an hour, but the reorder was the same. What was positive was that no ice was added. The food was good, but not great either! The fries weren't crispy, just kind of mushy. The meat, which is the main thing in Greek cuisine, was quite dry. There were unusually few gyros on the grill plates that my friend and I ordered. We know this differently from Greek restaurants. My father ordered liver and yes, that is indeed not easy and not everyone can do it. The liver was very thin and tough, making it hardly edible. The rest of the food was fine, apart from the fact that the fries weren't crispy! But then the sweet conclusion is forgiving: chocolate cake with a liquid center. But tellingly, it was the first time I ordered dessert from a Greek restaurant. Actually, you feel full after eating. It's a shame, somehow we expected more from the Ypsilon restaurant...

Table reserved but others got it in the middle of the room....no beer mats.....you had to constantly run after the waiters.....full tables were not cleared promptly and no attention was paid to full glasses....tables were smeared ....no tablecloths....floors full of spills....food not worthy of a restaurant...too few sanitary facilities that are not maintained....much too crowded, the main thing is sales....much too loud.. ..talking to each other almost impossible......no bread as a starter and rude staff....the previous owner was good...the current one is not.....Never again unanimously from 7 people....absolutely no longer recommended

Large portions, quite tasty food, but the service needs improvement.

Very attentive and friendly service. The prices are reasonable. We have rarely eaten so well. The pork fillet was still slightly pink and therefore very tender and not dry. The beef fillet was perfectly medium, the quality of the meat was top and the fries were also very tasty. The salad was fresh with a very tasty dressing and the tzatziki was also very good. We were passing through, otherwise we would definitely stop by here more often. The ambience is nothing special, but you sit comfortably.

It's just a shame that there aren't more vegetarian dishes to choose from. That would round off the offer even better.
