Ypsilon Restaurant in Essen

Very friendly waiters... Service but a lot of room for improvement... Then you could order more than one drink. Unfortunately not very attentive. Food only lukewarm, gyros were greasy, table sticky even though the waiter had wiped it...

Very tasty, a bit full, of course logical. Unfortunately it's a bit loud, but if there are a lot of people there, maybe just switch off the hearing aids next time.

To be honest, I can't really understand the hype surrounding this place! The positive thing is the location and that the restaurant is much larger and nicer than it looks from the main entrance. The winter garden is of course the highlight and you can sit very comfortably here. The service is really top! Very friendly, attentive and fun to have. You can imagine from the many good reviews that it is very well attended. We were there in July 2024 because my friend wanted to celebrate her birthday in a small group. We were there with 6 people and full of anticipation, as Ypsilon also has some fans among our neighbors. I'll start with the drinks. Soft drinks, such as cola, etc., weren't really cold and somehow lacked some carbon dioxide. It was as if the Coke had been sitting somewhere for an hour, but the reorder was the same. What was positive was that no ice was added. The food was good, but not great either! The fries weren't crispy, just kind of mushy. The meat, which is the main thing in Greek cuisine, was quite dry. There were unusually few gyros on the grill plates that my friend and I ordered. We know this differently from Greek restaurants. My father ordered liver and yes, that is indeed not easy and not everyone can do it. The liver was very thin and tough, making it hardly edible. The rest of the food was fine, apart from the fact that the fries weren't crispy! But then the sweet conclusion is forgiving: chocolate cake with a liquid center. But tellingly, it was the first time I ordered dessert from a Greek restaurant. Actually, you feel full after eating. It's a shame, somehow we expected more from the Ypsilon restaurant...

Table reserved but others got it in the middle of the room....no beer mats.....you had to constantly run after the waiters.....full tables were not cleared promptly and no attention was paid to full glasses....tables were smeared ....no tablecloths....floors full of spills....food not worthy of a restaurant...too few sanitary facilities that are not maintained....much too crowded, the main thing is sales....much too loud.. ..talking to each other almost impossible......no bread as a starter and rude staff....the previous owner was good...the current one is not.....Never again unanimously from 7 people....absolutely no longer recommended

Large portions, quite tasty food, but the service needs improvement.

Very attentive and friendly service. The prices are reasonable. We have rarely eaten so well. The pork fillet was still slightly pink and therefore very tender and not dry. The beef fillet was perfectly medium, the quality of the meat was top and the fries were also very tasty. The salad was fresh with a very tasty dressing and the tzatziki was also very good. We were passing through, otherwise we would definitely stop by here more often. The ambience is nothing special, but you sit comfortably.

It's just a shame that there aren't more vegetarian dishes to choose from. That would round off the offer even better.

Top Greek in Essen Steele. Great food, great service and nice atmosphere. Absolute recommendation

We were there again recently with five people, ordered the same dishes as on our previous visits and this time we were really shocked by the small portions. There were just two forks of gyros on the ouzo plate and very few fries, previous times there were significantly more. Exactly the same tragedy on the Ypsilon plate and the Anamikta apo to Grill plate. We hope that this was a negative exception and that next time we get reasonable portions so that you are full! The taste remained good, and the Bernaise sauce and Café de Paris sauce were also very tasty and plentiful. The tzatziki and saganaki are also very good. However, the wheat beer could have been chilled much better, unfortunately on all visits it wasn't really cold and therefore didn't taste that good.

The address in Essen Steele for Greek food for years, before and after Corona. It's worth driving 20 km.

This restaurant is pretty big with lots of space inside and out. Ambience is nice and a good varied menu. Had the mixed cold meze to start followed by the mixed grill plate. Both were very good. Service was a bit slower than normal.

It was a really nice evening with high quality food and really attentive service! I would like to point out that the nice lady saw straight away that my wife was getting a bit cold outside and immediately asked if she needed a blanket (1a with an asterisk)! 👍 the food was super delicious! And the prices are okay too! 100% recommendation!

Went out for dinner with friends who live near the restaurant, had a table booked for ca. 7pm , sat outside ( before the thunderstorm arrived ). Ordered round of drinks while choosing our main dishes e.g. 1 x Saganki, 1 x Sikoti , 1 x Ypsilon and 1 x Schnitzel with pineapple & cheese all served with side salads. Check their website and you'll get a good idea of their menu. Portions were a good size, prices acceptable, we got a round of Ouzo on the house after the meal.

Basically our food was ok so far. Certainly located in the beginning of the upper third. However, what we ordered was actually normal Greek average, which every Greek should be able to do. I think the ambience inside is ok, the beer garden in the courtyard is also ok, but nothing more. Still, it's nice to be able to sit outside when the weather is good. However, there was no ambience when you looked at the high-rise buildings in Steele. Overall the service was ok, although I was a bit unlucky as I only ordered starters as a main course - including some pastas and tzatziki. After these were on the table I was told "bread is coming soon". Well, the “same” was about 20-25 minutes and only when asked again. So all in all not so happy.

Well.....I've been there a few times now and normal dishes taste good and can be made, but they don't have steak on them.....had surf and turf with 2 wheat for €41.50 today.....sent half a plate back .. .said it wasn't tasty but still had to pay the full amount.....so you also lose customers......not recommended.....there is better

It's one thing that we were able to sit outside and eat together again after such a long time. But the food at Ypsilon is always excellent!! The service was super friendly like a Greek, thank you😘💕

We visited the Ypsilon several times. Both the strengths and weaknesses of the restaurant were consistently noticed. The location is very stylishly decorated. I would also say that Ypsilon has the most beautiful beer garden in the district. The portions are very generous and cheap. The grilled dishes in particular are a particular strength of Ypsilon. The Bifteki is also highly recommended. Only the gyros was once again not convincing. The size of the tzatziki should also be adjusted to the amount of meat. The service was quick, attentive and friendly

Recommended Greek restaurant. Good atmosphere, everything was clean and very friendly staff. The taste of the food is great. One star deducted because, in my opinion, the portion of the liver/gyros plate is too small for a full-grown, hungry man and the beer could have used more cooling.

Greek FOOD, so-so, there is plenty of rice and chips, the entire food range is ?????Meat is very tough, like the Yugoslavian, overall not for gourmets, the Uzo served doesn't help either. Male service, very reserved, female service, very friendly.

We come here at least once a month (preferably more often) and are always happy about the consistently good quality of the food, as well as the above-average, fast and extremely friendly service, which always has a place for us, even on days that are almost fully booked (and the dachshund). Thank you for this at this point 🫶🏻 In addition, the ambience inside is really very appealing and super cozy and the spacious outdoor area in summer is also quite nice (although the tables here seem a bit bare - this could certainly be improved with some decoration and table lighting on the tables and, if necessary, around them (for example large ones). Floor lanterns for the evening) can still get a lot out of it: We'll be back...and again...and again...! :)))

Cozy and you can eat outside. In winter the winter garden is also very good for sitting. The food was very tasty and I've been there with a lot of different people and they were all always happy.

Here you don't have to wait long for the professional staff. You are accompanied to the table, drinks arrive quickly and the food is varied, fresh and very tasty (what more could you want?). By the way, a great menu at the lunch table and very good opening times. Every conclusion includes an invitation from the house for an Uzo or an espresso. Exemplary!!

Food was good, I've had better taramas. I had nothing else to complain about, service was very friendly, my octopus 🐙 was tender, and my calamari was good too. One of the better Greeks in Essen, will come again. Keep it up 👍

Very friendly staff, extremely fast, attentive service... a little too fast/hectic for my taste. I would have liked tzatziki instead of ketchup/mayo from the 20 ml sachets. Bifteki was very good, gyros with Metaxa sauce wasn't my favorite. Dogs welcome.

Their kindness and commitment were remarkable even under these difficult conditions. Overall, Ypsilon in Essen offers an outstanding gastronomic experience. The combination of delicious food, an appealing ambience and courteous service makes every visit special. Despite the small challenges on Mother's Day, we remain loyal to Ypsilon and are already looking forward to our next visit. A restaurant that we like to visit again and again!

Nice ambience, nice service and very tasty dishes.

First of all: It was certainly just a snapshot of a Friday evening, but that's how it happened. The restaurant is very inviting and there are different areas (inside, outside and outside + smoking area). There is absolutely nothing wrong with the ambience and the food. Big compliment! But the service was a little negative at times. It started with the fact that, despite reservations, we couldn't get a chair for a small child. It continued that when ordering the dishes you really wanted to have the numbers of the dishes and couldn't really do much with the name. Of course it also had to happen that the wrong dish was delivered. Unfortunately, this degenerated into a medium-sized discussion with the Sergice lady, but then the right dish wasn't served. When asked whether there would also be normal ketchup (in addition to the curry ketchup), the lady only said "no". Another service worker then brought us normal ketchup. The curry ketchup had been there for almost a year expired. The other service person apologized and then everything was fine. The place was full, a lot of people wanted something, so that doesn't really make much of a difference, but we would have liked a different demeanor.

We once again felt very comfortable. Nice restaurant. The food was very tasty and the team was very friendly. Ambience very nice.

Das Personal ist freundlich, aber das Lokal ist ziemlich laut. Das Angebot an vegetarischen Gerichten waren ein Gemüseteller bzw. ein Nudelgericht. Das Gemüse war ziemlich zerkocht und qualitativ mäßig. Die Nudeln schwammen in einer pampigen Sauce und die Portion recht klein. Wir kamen nur wegen unserer Freunde dahin, würden es aber nicht bevorzugen.

We were there for the second time now. Unfortunately, something was repeated which seems to be a fundamental problem. But first the positive. All the food we had was tasteful and delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive and orders come quickly. Unfortunately, the first time the entire food was only lukewarm. On the second visit, the food was warm, but got cold very quickly (no, it wasn't because of the speed at which we eat). It was noticeable that the plates were not warmed up. This may be due to the material the plates are made of. This should be improved. Hot food, warmed plates and I would have given full marks.

The service is always premium. Everyone is very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is very nicely decorated. The outdoor area is very well thought out and classy. Wheelchair users can come here without any problems. The toilet, however, is very small.

Very friendly welcome and extremely warm service. I had a lunch special. I have one Grill plate with rice ordered for 13.20 EUR. I was amazed at the large portion. It was very delicious. My friend's portion was also very sizable And delicious. This restaurant is absolutely recommended

Today we were in the Ypsilon for the first time. The food tasted very good. The portions are so large that I couldn't finish it all. The very friendly waitress immediately asked if she could pack up the rest. The food was delivered quickly even though the restaurant was full. The prices are completely normal. Unfortunately, the noisy backdrop is not quite as pleasant. Thanks to the friendly service. We will definitely come back.

I was here again after 2 years and it got significantly worse. I had a grill plate and the meat was fried to death. This means: fried until the bones were dry. Unfortunately all the dishes arrived lukewarm. Plates were also returned to the next table to warm up. It's a shame again, a restaurant that I won't visit again.

The food tastes very good, the service is extremely friendly, but the lady behind the counter without work clothes is extremely unfriendly. None of the guests who were there (3 including us) had no problem with our son playing there and being a little louder (he was playing with a car and the car was probably very loud - not a battery-controlled car), the lady in front said My son should please be quieter. Quick question: what's worse? A toddler screaming or a toddler playing with a plastic car? Therefore, we will not recommend this restaurant to families and our customers! Obviously no children are welcome here!

Es war ein schöner Nachmittag/Abend gestern im Ypsilon Super lecker gegessen und getrunken.Petsonal sehr freundlich. Ich war nach langer Zeit wieder in meiner alten Heimat, und zum ersten Mal im Ypsilon.Werde ich bestimmt weiter empfehlen,und beim nächsten Besuch bestimmt wieder besuchen. Wir waren mit 8 Personen, trotzdem alle gleichzeitig Essen und Getränke bekommen, obwohl das Lokal sehr voll war.

Das Essen ist nicht der Hit!!! Wir waren mit 4 Erwachsenen da und jeder hat was anderes gegessen. Bei jeden von uns war es vom Geschmack her lecker aber das Fleisch, egal welches, war so fest, man konnte es kaum schneiden und trocken ohne Ende. Ich hatte Souflaki, Steak, Gyros, eins wie das andere, verdammt fest, trocken und kaum zu kauen.... schade!!! Während wir vor der Tür noch auf zwei Personen gewartet hatten, kamen 3 Frauen heraus, da wir aus Bremen kommen, kannten wir das Restaurant natürlich nicht. Ich fragte die Frauen, ob das Essen hier gut ist, sie hatten uns den Mund wässrig gemacht und ich hatte mich wirklich drauf gefreut... vergebens wie sich herausstellen sollte. Auch das mitnehmen der Reste.... nicht wahr, der junge hatte Bifteki in Metaxa Sauce und hatte noch 1 1/2 Bifteki über, die wollte er gerne mitnehmen. Zu Hause die Überraschung, nur das halbe Bifteki, keine Pommes... Nichts Seine Freundin, Hähnchenfleisch, Grillgemüse, Pommes. Mitbekommen hat sie nur: das angeschnittene Stückchen Fleisch, von den anderen 4 Stückchen, nichts zu sehen. Auch kein Grillgemüse oder Pommes, keine Spur!!! Ich frage mich ob die das sauber machen und dem nächsten Gast servieren?!? Auf jeden Fall, für uns, NIE WIEDER YPSILON SCHADE
