YAU - Malaysische Küche in Nürnberg

It was our first time eating Malaysian food and our first impression of this cuisine was great! The food tasted delicious. The duck was really very well prepared. The service was very nice, sociable and cheerful and patiently explained every dish to us whose name we didn't know, which meant we found the right one for us. Since we also live nearby, nothing will stop us from coming back!

Very authentic restaurant, with dishes that you don't often get in Germany. The taste was definitely close to the dishes from our Malaysia vacation. The prices are also very fair.

Ordered Beef Rendang. What I got was something else…more like spicy beef stir fry. This restaurant is best suited for someone who does not expect Malaysian cuisine, but rather a generic Asian inspired restaurant.

I ordered fried rice noodle. It tastes exactly like the one I tried in Malaysia years ago. You can taste the smoky aroma from the wok pan. The service are also great. One of my friends orded Laksa Noodle (Noodle with coconut soup). It was also amazing. The other friend ordered curry with tamarind sauce. It was okay, but not my favorite. In General the food is great! Very recommended.

Malaysian here. The food is edible but not authentic. It is a shame really… felt a bit sad Malaysian flavours were not really represented in this restaurant. It is just another white washed Asian restaurant. They are obviously catering to German palates. We ordered the following for 4 pax : 1. Roti canai—only 1 piece came with a tiny portion of curry / dal. Roti canai seems to be the supermarket frozen kind, not made in house. 2. Wantan soup—soup was rather oily with shallot oil and salty. It wasn’t bad, just saltier than what we are used to. 3. Nasi lemak—as you can see from my picture, it is not nasi lemak. Just lightly flavoured coconut rice with 4 itty bitty little anchovies and the sambal was not nasi lemak sambal. The odd curry chicken that accompanied it just tasted of curry powder. Not spicy—perfect for the non Asian palates. 4. Sweet and sour fried chicken—didn’t take a picture. It came in a sea of red sauce with a small portion of white rice. My kids enjoyed it. 5. Nasi goreng—not bad, it came with taugeh which is not something you will find anywhere in Malaysia. It was seasoned in the same curry powder as the curry chicken that came with the nasi lemak. All the food was edible. It filled our bellies but it is not authentic Malaysian food. Uncle and Aunty need to be braver and put forward some real Malaysian flavours, please. Teh tarik was alright. They only accept CASH.

Authentic Malay restaurant. Very friendly staff, delicious food (often spicy+) and reasonable prices. Only the ambience and the music didn't fit well.

Very tasty food, one of our group lived in Malaysia for half a year and found it very authentic. As starters, roti canai and corn cakes from the daily menu. The soup with different types of meat (and mussels) and two types of flat rice noodles, the nasi goreng and the fried noodles with beef were also very good. Plus Tiger Beer. The owners are very nice and the food is on the table quickly. The only point: not a stylish shop. But the food and service make it easy to overlook it. And it's not expensive either. Any time

Delicious food for a really good price! Unfortunately the decor is very dated and it was relatively stuffy in the restaurant.

Pleasant atmosphere, furnishings could be a bit more homely. The owner couple was very nice and attentive, the food was pleasantly spicy (but can also be ordered spicier) we had crispy duck on red Thai curry and nasi lemak... both tasted very good, the duck actually deserves the rating crispy! All in all recommended, I would love to come back

Haben heute Ente in Tamarindensoße, Ente mit Wokgemüse und Rindfleisch aus dem Wok gegessen. Ein Traum. Zum reinsetzen!! Auch der Sojasprossen Salat hat Suchtpotential. Freuen uns schon auf unseren nächsten Besuch.

We heard a lot about the place before visiting it and it was the best Malaysian food I ever tried in Germany! The flavours are very nice and everything fresh with a homemade touch! Loved it!

Wer chinesisches Essen bzw. die kantonesische Küche liebt, wird einen Abstecher in die Malaysische Küche als behutsam horizonterweiternd finden: Klassiker wie Ente, Hähnchen oder auch vegetarische Gerichte finden sich hier ebenso wie asiatische Suppen oder leckere Vorspeisen wie Hähnchenspieße mit leckeren Saucen. Sogar ein flambiertes Eis gibt es hier. Besonders angenehm fällt die freundlich-entspannte Bedienung auf: hier wird einem nicht das Glas aus der Hand gerissen und nach einem neuen Getränk gefragt, sobald es einen gewissen Pegel unterschritten hat. Sehr gut! Die Qualität der Speisen ist ausgezeichnet und im Restaurantambiente kann man sich sehr wohl fühlen. Klare Empfehlung.

Ich war wieder hier und das Essen ist immer wieder ein Hochgenuss, Probiert unbedingt die scharfe Rendangsosse zum Hauptgericht eurer Wahl (ich liebe die Entenbrust)

Da das Lokal kürzlich übernommen wurde, möchte ich das Ambiente nicht so erwähnen, aber es hat nichts mit Asien zu tun, abgesehen von dem kleinen Schrein an Eingang. Die Vorspeisen sind lecker zugegeben, aber die Hauptspeisen sind echt "nur" Standard . Das Fleisch ist sehr zart und top zubereitet,aber die Saucen, sowas von 0815. Malaysische Küche, so wie hier verkauft, hebt sich nicht ab von den anderen Asia Restaurant. Preislich ist es schon OK.

Hier kann man sehr gut essen. Große Portionen und wirklich leckeres Essen. Nur die Ausstattung Bedarf der Überholung

Wir gehen fast jede Woche zum Essen dort hin. Es ist alles sehr lecker und frisch zubereitet. Für heute hatten wir Fisch vorbestellt und Chicken Wings. Der Fisch war geschmacklich einsame Spitze, knusprig gebraten mit Sojasoße, Gemüse und Reis. Auch die Wings waren sehr lecker Außen kross, Innen weiches Fleisch und nicht trocken. Und es war so schön angerichtet. Auch die Besitzer sind sehr nett und hilfsbereit, wenn man nicht so scharf essen kann wie ich. Es werden Alternativen dazu angeboten und ausführlich erklärt, dazu auch Bilder gezeigt, so kann man sich vorstellen, wie das Gericht aussieht. Finden wir klasse. Wir kommen immer wieder gerne.

Nette Wirtin, die gern mit Rat und Tat zur Seite steht, wenn man sich nicht entscheiden kann. Essen ist günstig und schmackhaft. Es gibt auch Spezialgerichte, welche jedoch meist vorbestellt werden müssen. Das Roti Canai als Vorspeise schmeckt authentisch, so wie ich es in Singapur serviert bekommen habe.

Das Rendang, im Original mit Rindfleisch ist sehr gut, und sehr authentisch. Ich habe allerdings gleich beim ersten Mal dazugesagt, daß ich es gerne Original, also etwas schärfer und würziger (also nicht eingedeutscht) haben möchte, und es war unglaublich gut! Seit dem esse ich dort nichts anderes. Freunde haben etwas anderes gegessen, was ich als einen guten Durchschnitt bewerten würde. Es ist allerdings anders als das legendäre indonesische Rendang der Nasi Padang Küche aus Sumatra. Ich würde sagen, würziger und nicht ganz so gefällig- was aber keine Kritik ist, wenn man es mit einem der besten Essen der Welt vergleicht.

Un restaurante asiático, algunos sabores interesantes pero no destacables. No encontré mucha diferencia con otros restaurantes.

We were here with 2 children and a pram. The service is friendly and there is enough space for a pram or two in the restaurant. The toilet has no nappy changing station, and is clean. We ordered Roti Canai, prawns and a dish with duck. The roti canai is simply that from the frozen asian section, and not freshly made. The curry is in a tiny little ramekin but tasty, though inadequate for a real asian eating. The food came amazingly late. My husband joked it would take 2 hours, and true enough in our group gathering, it took me two hours to get my food, and everyone else was almost done. The prawns were not fresh, some had a squishy taste instead of crunchy. And the sauce was telltale paste from a well known brand in asia. What I could not understand was how they could charge 14 euros for the prawn and still break even since the instant cooking pastes aren't that cheap either. But someone on the inside told me the owner could buy it in bulk from home... So instant paste... a little pimped. Not my idea of malaysian food. My german hubby was satisfied, and I am sure many are. Just that if you know what instant pastes taste like (tasty but identifiable), you wouldnt go back here again and rather prepare at home. Overall I give three, since I still enjoyed my food, and because the service staff responded well to my kids needing food fast.

Am letzten Oktober Tag war ich mit meinen Eltern, die vor 2 Jahren Malaysia besucht hatten im Yau. Wir waren sowohl mit dem Essen als auch dem Service sehr zufrieden. Die Gerichte wurden alle frisch zubereitet bereitet, zur Vorspeise gab es eine Wan Tan Suppe und Hühnerspiesse. Die Pause zwischen Vor- und Hauptspeise hätte einen Tick länger sein können. Auch mit den Hauptgerichten waren wir sehr zufrieden; das vegetarische Laksa war ausgezeichnet (gut scharf) und die Ente nach Malaysia Art ebenfalls sehr lecker. Wir können das Yau uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen und werden sicher wiederkommen.

Wir probierten das YAU am Mittag aus. Wir bestellten als Vorspeise Hühnerspieße welche nichts besonders vom Geschmack waren. Die Nudeln als Hauptspeise waren gut. Bei der bestellten Ente war die Soße aus meiner Sicht etwas salzig. Und leider war das bestellte Bier sehr schal (vermutlich weil wir die ersten Gäste am Mittag waren). Was uns aber am meisten störte war, dass sich die Dame welche uns bediente, ausführlich in die Hand genossen hat und danach ohne die Hände zu waschen weiter bediente...

Nürnberg has many Thai, but few Malasian restaurants. We had an enjoyable meal here. We started with Roti. I then had duck Laksa. It was spicier than I prefer, but very tasty. Surroundings are pleasant, but not luxurious. Service was friendly.

Wir waren mit Freunden aus Asien zum Abendessen hier und wurden mit guter authentischer Küche überrascht. Wenn man es wirklich original malaysisch mag, sollte man es dazusagen. Es wird auch Chinesisch und Malaysisch gesprochen.

Ich war jetzt schon öfters dort und habe nur sehr positive Erfahrungen gemacht. Das Essen in dem kleinen Familienbetrieb ist stets frisch und sehr lecker.

Das Ambiente lädt zum gemütlichen, entspannten Essen ein und die Auswahl an Gerichten war übersichtlich und außreichend. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und nahm sich für uns die Zeit alle unbekannten Gerichte zu erklären und Empfehlungen zu geben. Es dauerte zwar fast 1 Stunde bis wir unser Essen erhielten, aber das Warten hatte sich gelohnt, denn man schmeckte das das Essen frisch zubereitet wurde. Über die Preise der Gerichte kann man sich für die dargebotenen Qualität nicht beschweren und auch Getränke haben moderate Preise. Meine Familie und ich können das Restaurant nur empfehlen und werde selber des öfteren zu Besuch sein.

Good service. Lady boss can speak mandarin. Love the char kway teow with the wokfire! Very delicious! Satay was delicious and the satay sauce was expertly crafted with a great taste of lemongrass. I like the sauce here more than the one in Malaysia. Nasi lemak is not authentic tasting so I don't recommend it if you have tasted it in Malaysia countless of times before. However, it tasted good in its own rights just that the rice is not lemak.

Wir waren am vergangenen Wochenende dort zum ersten mal Essen. Nach unserem 4 monatigen Aufenthalt in Kuala Lumpur hat es uns in Deutschland dann doch mal nach der malaysischen Küche gelüstet. Das Essen schmeckt authentisch und es gibt eine gute Auswahl. Die Preise sind günstig und der Service sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Für 4 Vorspeisen, 2 Hauptgerichte und 2 Getränke haben wir 37,50 bezahlt. Da kann man wirklich nicht meckern. Wir werden definitiv wieder kommen.

Ich weiß nicht, ob der Koch einen schlechten Tag hatte. Aber alle unsere Hauptgänge waren leider total versalzen. Und ich...

Heute haben wir auf Empfehlung von Freunden das "Yau" aufgesucht. Wir wurden freundlich empfangen und sehr zügig mit der Speisekarte...
