XXL Schnitzelhaus in Menden (Sauerland)

It was my first time at XXL Schnitzelhaus, and what can I say? It was also my last. The price was absolutely overpriced and didn't match the menu. The taste was okay, just schnitzel. But it wasn't particularly outstanding. I ordered takeout, and the fries were soggy by the time I got home.

Very nice ambiance 👍🏻 - Small outdoor terrace available. The waitress was very friendly and quick 👍🏻 A large selection of dishes - it's hard to choose - in different sizes! We'll be happy to come back!

The food was good, but unfortunately, I don't understand their tactics of telling us at 6:30 p.m. that the table was only free for 1.5 hours. At 8 p.m., there were 10 tables available, and when I asked, I was told they'd all canceled. What nonsense... I don't understand their statement, unfortunately. It just stressed us out while we were eating and left us with a negative feeling. We've been here several times, but this is the last time. Sorry.

The food is rather poor quality. We weren't even asked if we wanted anything else to drink the entire time. But the worst part is: you pay €4 for an empty plate because you're sharing with a child! 'Burger costs €33 plus the plate fee! Unbelievable! And ketchup with mayo costs €3... but the whole plate thing is unbelievable.... Don't go there, make your own for that money! They'll never see us again!!!!! Plus, everything is very dusty and not well-maintained. Not all of the tables outside were clean, and we found napkins on the floor when we arrived and even when we left!

Price for a family of 3 children, two adults: 112 euros! It would be nice if every schnitzel was also available in a "S" size. Unfortunately, the schnitzels were dripping with frying oil and only tasted like a heavy breading. The diameter of the schnitzels is good, though. The meat is soft to medium-firm. But, as I said, unfortunately, there's hardly any flavor due to all the fat. Ketchup, for example, costs an extra 1 euro! The order and food were served quickly, though. But hey, we were the only customers. The tables and chairs are antique, nice for the ambiance but uncomfortable to sit on. The atmosphere is generally pleasant. The restrooms are a bit cramped. Everything is clean and well-presented.

Like the previous reviewers, I was last there three years ago, and the food was good. Today I went back and ordered a schnitzel with mushrooms and onions. Within a few minutes, the schnitzel arrived, along with some fries and a leaf of salad with some dressing. The sauce with mushrooms and onions was not fresh and lukewarm. There were three small mushrooms in the sauce that just covered the schnitzel. The schnitzel was lukewarm. I ordered a large schnitzel for €26.95 and was simply disappointed. The portion of food was small and lukewarm, the surrounding atmosphere was dirty, with a lot of dust on the decor, and the salad was ridiculous. Unfortunately, a poor conclusion: this restaurant has clearly declined in recent years! Not recommended. Honestly, you could get a better schnitzel for half the price at a decent chip shop. Sorry, guys, as operators, winning a customer is one thing, losing one... they'll never come back. Think about it.

We ate there for the first time today, and it will be our last. The food was awful 👎 The schnitzel was greasy, and the broccoli was smothered in Dutch sauce. It looked awful and didn't taste good. The price wasn't justified.

PFFFFFF The XXL Schnitzel of 1000 grams is impossible. Hahaha. The Teufel with green pepper sauce of 500 grams is top. The other one definitely also with X Champion cream sauce. Highly recommended this restaurant

Today we ate there after a good two years... unfortunately, it's not as good as it used to be. Ordered gypsy schnitzel, which was nice and cold, and only the sauce was lukewarm... it was probably brought by the boss himself, and he wasn't friendly... So we'll eat somewhere else in the future.

The restaurant is terrible and the prices are also terrible. Frozen schnitzel with a sloppy breading in a rectangular shape. Rude service, then they said it didn't taste good, then the boss looks at you with big eyes and then you are asked to pay for a whopping 43 euros. Not recommended at all.

Very good and plentiful selection of dishes, in a variety of sizes. The atmosphere is casual but cozy.

Food is quantity over quality. The taste is more like a cafeteria. The menu is very confusing, and the atmosphere isn't great. Everything seems very old and unkempt. Perhaps quite nice for a bachelor party with a blood alcohol level of 0.2 and the desire to eat a 1kg schnitzel or burger. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. The service, however, was friendly and attentive.

The schnitzel and fries were too dry; they weren't 300g schnitzels, they were 200g at most. The service was inattentive.

The food was very tasty as always. The ambience may need a tiny bit of improvement but otherwise it's great.

The food was okay. The portions were more than adequate. The wait time was rather poor. We waited almost an hour to get our food. Unfortunately, the tables are far too close together, so you're almost sitting on other guests' laps. They should consider offering fewer seats instead of sitting like sardines in a can.

Was here for the first time at 12.30 only 2 people very quiet why came later the service was quite unfriendly and when I asked if they had anything with asparagus she said no even though it was on the menu but in season they should have it. The menu was quite messy and hard to read. The schnitzel came with pepper sauce which only consisted of fixin and was a bit sour, the schnitzel was not seasoned and cooked incorrectly because a good schnitzel blisters the breading which is not the case. Overall it's OK but it's a schnitzel house and it's okay even without the cabbage schnitzel.

Extremely disappointed! Simply not worth the money! Waited 2 hours for the food (ordered 1: surf and turf, 2: crusader platter) and a few other dishes. We were there as a group and when the food finally arrived, it was nicely presented but extremely dry! The service was terrible; no drinks were offered! They simply gave us a roll of aluminum foil for the leftover food, and we had to wrap it up ourselves! That was the first and last time we ate here! 1 star is already too much!

A disaster! Not recommended! Starters are forgotten! 1.5 hours waiting for food. The second drink wasn't even delivered! Ordered without mayo because of an allergy, but got something with mayo! And then the prices. Two shrimp skewers for €19?? Lidl sells six for €5.99! Never again! - 0 stars

The portions are tiny and the prices are astronomical! For the price, you'd expect a generous portion, but no, here you only get enough to satisfy your hunger for a few minutes. The quality of the food was okay, but not enough to justify the exorbitant prices. Anyone who comes here should be prepared for an empty wallet and a half-full stomach. The bottom line: Too expensive, too little. Not recommended!

Food was ok, schnitzel was ordered in sizes M and L. At L there were two very thin schnitzels, one was rectangular. Salad garnish with ready-made yoghurt dressing. Price/performance ok, no culinary outpouring. Far too large a selection with repetitions in parts. Prompt service, but after the first drinks and food no one asked anymore. Perhaps there is a lack of staff, as we know by now. The atmosphere, old, thrown together, dusty.

Schnitzel tastes like nothing and it swims in salad dressing. Ordered fries without mayo and received them. Ordered baguette with aioli, didn't get aioli. Fried potatoes not seasoned and swimming in fat.

We went to the Schnitzelhaus for lunch. We were there shortly after opening, but were warmly welcomed and we were able to choose a table. Then we got the card and shortly afterwards we were asked if we would like to order something to drink. We ordered a 500 g Holstein style schnitzel and an Excalibur. The schnitzels were freshly pounded, well seasoned and juicy. Most importantly, they weren't oily/greasy. The fries were crispy and seasoned well too. The atmosphere is just rustic. You either like it or you don't. But it doesn't detract from eating at all! All in all, we went home full and satisfied and will definitely stop by again when we're in the area!!! P.S.: Anyone who says there is TK Schnitzel should rethink their own cooking skills!😎

It's not that tasty there. Basically, they only serve ready-made meals, everything just quickly warmed up. Cleanliness also leaves a lot to be desired.

Service arrogant and somewhat friendly....Food was good, but the ambience could use a basic cleaning, and the outdated dry decorations also needed to be changed/disposed of....Looking into the kitchen while paying at the counter....um without words.....

We were at the Schnitzelhaus on March 9, 2025, I can't understand the negative reviews. The food was great and the prices were quite reasonable. The visit was definitely worth it. We'll definitely come back.

Service was bad. You felt like a troublemaker. We were the only guests! Long wait for drinks and menu. The food came very quickly. It wasn't fresh either. The sauces all come from the bucket or bag. The fries are half raw. Nothing fresh on the plate. The food tasted very unremarkable. So no taste. The ambience, well. There's a lot of stuff lying around there. And dust in between. Not a question about whether it tastes good or whether you want to order something more. Unfortunately the prices don't match what's on offer.

They have delicious schnitzels here in all kinds of ways with different sauces. We take a detour from Winterberg. Super prepared, nice and crispy. With fries or baked potatoes. Very tasty.

The food was very tasty and the staff tried to make it as pleasant as possible. Unfortunately very crowded and lots of dust collectors that take up space and don't look tidy.

When we brought the menu, we weren't greeted, the menus weren't handed over, we weren't asked what we would like to drink, it wasn't until 8 minutes after we received the menus that the service person came back to ask us what we would like to drink. There were only 4 tables occupied in the restaurant, so it couldn't have been due to stress. For me personally, the Jägerschnitzel didn't have enough Jäger sauce and there was only 1 dollop of ketchup on the fries.

We had talked about it so many times, but yesterday we were finally there. We liked the general atmosphere and the many parking spaces. The drinks and main courses we ordered were also picked up quickly and brought to us at the same time. The service was friendly, but you could tell she was stressed. The food itself was okay and nicely prepared. I can't say for sure whether the XXL schnitzels I ordered actually weighed 1 kg. Personally, they seemed somehow too small to me, but I may be wrong (we didn't eat them anyway). The fries were a little too short in the fryer for our taste, but they were definitely eaten. Unfortunately, the situation in the restaurant changed as the time and number of visitors increased. We had to wait over 30 minutes for the dessert we ordered; the churros had only briefly been touched with the frying fat and were seasoned with nutmeg instead of cinnamon (there was no sugar at all). We didn't pay for these either. Basically, both the kitchen and service staff seemed completely overwhelmed - and I don't mean that personally, because the two ladies were visibly trying to keep up. Two people who take care of both the service and the counter service are simply not enough given this level of workload. The kitchen also seemed to have its problems and at least didn't seem well-functioning. In conclusion we can say that we would not go there again. Too many things went wrong the first time and it's not worth all the money for us. But definitely okay as a one-off XXL experience.

The ambience is slightly old but still beautiful and harmonious. We didn't have a starter. For the main course, each of the 4 of us had something different, the schnitzels were all fresh, tasty and juicy! Pictures follow. We didn't have to wait long for our food, about 20 minutes, which is perfectly fine. And no, they are not frozen schnitzels, as was already claimed in the comments. For dessert I mixed 3 scoops of ice cream, which unfortunately wasn't convincing in terms of taste, but my sister's churros were freshly hot and very tasty!! You just have to try out what you like. Conclusion, yes there are better restaurants, but apart from a few little things we really liked it. It's definitely worth a visit!

After 16 days in Türkiye, we ordered a table after landing in Germany. Wonderful schnitzel. It was like a blessing from God. Ambiance, food and everything that goes with it, simply 5 stars! Always happy again! Thanks

The customer service was subpar, I have rarely been so shocked by the way customers were treated. A hair in my food was simply ignored by the waitress, after that we were just watched from afar and also ignored. Nobody spoke to us anymore, the plate with the hair was carried into the kitchen without comment. No apologies were made or anything was offered to me. I was only offered a new schnitzel but the hunger was gone. He then had to carry the rest of my friend's schnitzel to the counter himself to have it packed. After expressing the lack of understanding about the situation, we were only asked if we wanted to speak to the boss, because the waitress didn't know how to help us. The taste of the schnitzel was okay. Really a shame.

We were there on December 26th, 2024 and were totally thrilled, the service 10 stars, the food 10 stars, my 1 kg burger was a phenomenon and the taste was 10 stars! A repeat is due, only recommended!!!!

Incredibly dirty there, orders were always wrong and both had stomach pains after eating. We were so looking forward to it but it was definitely the first and last time!

I had on October 31st. A reservation request for 2 people for the same day was sent via email, which unfortunately was not answered. Before we left I called and was told there were problems with the internet. But we could still come over. The ambience and service were completely fine, the place may be a bit dark and old-fashioned, but that's a matter of taste. The actual reason for the visit was much worse: the food. My schnitzel “Miss Piggy” was good so far, but by no means outstanding. My wife's “Schlemmer Schnitzel” already looked very unappetizing due to the sauce. The schnitzel should come with fresh broccoli and fresh mushrooms. The broccoli was frozen and completely overcooked, more like a mush with the sauce, there's no other way to say it. We didn't see any mushrooms. The sauce was more like a porridge. Looked very unappetizing. I asked my wife several times if she really wanted to eat it, which unfortunately she did. On the way home she was already feeling unwell and nauseous. At home, all the food came out completely. Incredible! Apart from the schnitzel, she hadn't eaten anything, no starter and no dessert either. That was our second and last visit there.

I'm almost completely satisfied here, but first of all all the best :-), The schnitzels make me happy (craftsmanship, quality and quantity). I find the atmosphere pleasant. The staff was friendly and quick. I'd love to come back. Now to the negative, the seating outside. They are too narrow or uncomfortable for me.

The largest schnitzel was strangely rectangular and was very reminiscent of molded meat! The rest was standard, nothing special! The waiting time until we could order was about 30 minutes, and the food then took another 30 minutes! My colleague got the wrong schnitzel and the wrong drink! But since we wanted to eat together, he made do with that! All in all I was very disappointed!

I ordered a Jägerschnitzel. The schnitzel and the fries are good. However, the sauce wasn't to my taste. It was clearly a sauce that you mix together with a bit of powder and water. I think that's a shame, especially since homemade sauce isn't rocket science.

It was our first visit and I won't eat there again. It took 1 hour from arrival to receiving the food. I ordered a gypsy schnitzel with a small side “Litte Kiss” salad. As I said, after we sat down and I made a reservation, we waited 55 minutes for the food. There were several small pieces of bone in the schnitzel. The fries and the mayo were ok, the gypsy sauce was boring, had no spice and the schnitzel and the sauce were too cold. But I was really annoyed by these little side salads. Hardly any yogurt dressing, 2 half slices of tomato, a slice of onion and otherwise just iceberg lettuce. It was the shittiest salad I've had at a restaurant in my life.

Went there yesterday with 15 people. Table reserved, food pre-ordered. Not enough space. Food served before drinks. Cold . Bud Spencer Schnitzel not edible. The stars I have to give are flattered. A chip shop can do that too. Sorry to every chip shop. XXL schnitzel house never again. Then I'd rather go to a chip shop.

Unfortunately, things are no longer the same as they used to be. You can get frozen schnitzel now, it used to be fresh (but it was a while ago when we were there). Unfortunately we can no longer recommend the schnitzel. We can't say anything about burgers etc. as we all had a schnitzel.

Ambiente ist recht chaotisch aber uhrig. Leider wird kein Wert auf saubere Tische und gutes Besteck gelegt. Es standen Brot-Marmeladen-Messer bereit, für ein Schnitzel Haus unpassend. Die Tischbeleuchtung blendet, da sie direkt und nicht indirekt strahlt. Nach dem ersten Getränk bin ich fast verdurstet, keine Bedingung in Sicht. Das Servieren von Essen sollte hier noch mal geübt werden und auch wenn die Person keine Getränke bringt, sollte sie leere Gläser bemerken. Nach dem Essen musste ich zur Theke um zu bezahlen und selbst hier wurde ich eine gefühlte Ewigkeit ignoriert. Der Spruch "oh, ihr habt ja schnell aufgegessen" passte zu meiner Warnung, sie hatte die Zeit mit Quatschen verbracht. Den Zigarettenqualm Geruch konnte ich gerade so ignorieren. Naja, dafür das der Laden nur 2 Besetzte Tische hatte war keine Zeit für die Gäste. Für das Erlebnis hab ich 65€ bezahlt... TK Schnitzel mit Fertigsoße.... Gastronomie geht anders!

So the atmosphere is great, there's a lot of cool stuff hanging around and you always have something new to discover while you're waiting. The music being played is more suitable for a foggy shisha bar... The menu, with nice and funny names for the dishes, leaves you wanting more I've actually had better food but it was okay so at least it was plenty The best thing to recommend is probably the ribs, they are good! but not the schnitzels... The service left a lot to be desired. I felt a bit overwhelmed. They didn't ask for a second drink and just disappeared straight into the kitchen. Maybe there's still a lack of staff

A middle-class schnitzel house with a certain ambience that is made to be funny. Unfortunately the schnitzels are just ok. From the taste of the schnitzel to the sauces, everything is unfortunately just middle class. The food was ok. We've been here several times before and it was much better. At 9:35 p.m. we were told that we should please pay because they wanted to close now. So unfortunately it was our last time in this restaurant.
