Wirtshaus Lämmle in Würzburg

I haven't experienced anything so authentic in a long time. The kids were thrilled and even emptied all their plates. A great feeling, a great atmosphere, a wonderful lunch, definitely worth a repeat. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The service was unfazed, wonderfully honest. A tip more than deserved.

We were here with a larger group, and both drinks and food were served quickly to everyone, so at least each table could eat together. The inn has a rustic charm that we really liked. The service and waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. The only downside was the somewhat limited vegetarian selection (but we knew that beforehand and chose the restaurant anyway). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we'd be happy to come back.

The food is good, the beer and drinks are good, but the service has been rude, impatient, and always annoyed for years. I've been there for dinner several times a day or evening over the years. The service, whether new or old, has always been annoyed, stressed, or just plain rude. If you ask for the last receipt, you're immediately annoyed, even if you ask politely. As the last guest (well before the official closing time), you're not asked politely, but rather rudely asked/demanded, "You're almost finished, right?"

It's a nice outdoor seating area, with a pleasant beer garden feel right in the middle of town. The service is fast – but overwhelmed when we answer the friendly but honest question about whether everything was good: the bratwursts were okay but not particularly tasty, the sauerkraut was sweet from a can, and the mashed potatoes tasted like cardboard – they were definitely from a bag. So, if you're looking for good, high-quality food, this isn't the place for you.

Basically a cozy restaurant with an interesting menu. Since we only wanted a drink, we didn't eat but drank the local beer. As Swiss people do in a cozy pub, we unpacked our Jass cards and started playing Jass. To our horror, we discovered that this wasn't allowed. Why, no one could explain.

The menu offers a wide range of regional cuisine, and the drinks selection should offer something for everyone. We found exactly what we were looking for here and can definitely recommend the inn.

By far the best onion steak in the world! Incredibly delicious, superbly seasoned, and top-notch fried potatoes! Be sure to order and eat it! Tastes unbelievably good!

Update August 2025: I have to add my two cents to my own writing: I was right. :) We actually drove 2.5 hours and then decided to take a detour here again so we could enjoy the Schäufele again - that's how much the Lämmle convinced us. Even though the Schäufele has probably become a bit more expensive in the city in general, at €24.50 it's certainly still one of the cheapest in Würzburg - and still excellent! ❤️❤️❤️ The ambiance outside with its old trees - magical, just like the staff. We've decided to come here at least once or twice a year from now on. And I'm already looking forward to the next time. And I hope I never have to lower my rating. You're not allowed to play with your children at the table while waiting for your food. They also want to "hustle" as many customers through as possible. The food and service are fine, but a rule like this is unacceptable!

We were in Würzburg for the first time and were looking for a restaurant serving typical Franconian dishes. We had a lovely meal under umbrellas in the beer garden. The service was exceptionally good and fast, and the food was excellent.

The food was truly delicious, and the service was quick and uncomplicated. However, the visit leaves a bitter aftertaste. Instead of openly and honestly raising the prices, they seem to prefer cutting back on portion sizes. I ordered a roast pork – traditionally served with two dumplings and side dishes like red cabbage or salad. Here, there were only two dumplings on the plate – nothing else. No cabbage, no salad, no garnish. While it tasted good, it didn't fill you up. In the end, you feel a little deceived. I would have preferred to pay a slightly higher price – but in return, I would have received a wholesome meal that truly deserved its name. What a shame.

Unfriendly and impolite. I just wanted a cappuccino and dared to sit alone at a table in the beer garden near Marienplatz. Four of the approximately 25 tables were occupied on a Saturday at 11:25 a.m. The waitress came and said, "I should sit at one of the back tables in case a larger group arrives!" (??... almost all the tables are empty!) I replied, "I'm just having a quick cappuccino and I'm happy to get up if a group arrives." She turned around and left! Three minutes later, a waiter came and angrily told me to sit at one of the back tables. Are you even still okay? Apparently, the only thing that bothers me here is the customer! I then went across the street to "Hans im Glück" – top service and very friendly!

This was our second time in Würzburg, and hunger drove us back to the Lämmle restaurant. It's located in the heart of Würzburg's old town. This time, we had the Schäuferle burger with fries, and we also ordered the delicious coleslaw as an extra. The service was very attentive and friendly! We'd love to come back a third time!

Great food, nice beer garden, very central.

We ate here two years ago on our day trip to Würzburg. We actually found the food pretty good, so I wanted to eat here again recently, on a weekday afternoon when it was very quiet. But this time, unfortunately, it wasn't appealing at all. I had breaded chicken breast with potato salad, and I have to say, the chicken breast looked and tasted like cheap cafeteria food and not homemade. The potato salad was edible, but I was really disappointed and don't think we'll eat there again on our next visit to Würzburg. What a shame.

We sat in the wonderfully shady beer garden, had a very attentive and friendly waiter, and enjoyed the delicious food. A definite recommendation!

Three years later – and still great! The food was once again plentiful and good, especially the salad and red cabbage were impressive: fresh, delicious, and simply perfect. Everyone at the table was satisfied, full, and happy. The staff was attentive, cheerful, and rounded off the visit pleasantly. Fair prices, too – we certainly won't wait another three years to come back!

Well, the food was very salty, as I pointed out. So far, no one has complained. I have to say, it was a mess, the sauce was a disaster.

A great restaurant with good value for money. The portions are generous, and a side salad isn't necessary. (We didn't quite finish ours.) The service was polite and gave us plenty of time to choose without being intrusive. We feel at home here and will definitely come back next time we're in Würzburg.

We were there during the week to present Franconian food to a visitor. It was delicious, and the service staff was warm and accommodating. I chose the modern version and ordered a Schäufele burger. Highly recommended! We had a lovely evening at Lämmle :)

We ordered the wrong food, so when the food came out, they said it wasn't ours. It was our mistake, but the person who served the food (who seemed to be Asian or Chinese) had a really bad expression and even pointed at us. The service was really bad. The food came out quickly and the atmosphere was good, but I'm going to go to another restaurant now.

A rustic inn with a lovely beer garden right next to the church on the market square, very cozy and typically Bavarian. The home-style food was truly delicious and beautifully prepared. We were particularly impressed by the regional cuisine. The value for money is good, but the portions could be a bit larger. Friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere – we'd definitely be back!

We spent a delightful several hours in the shady garden restaurant outside Wirthaus Lämmle this evening. Service was friendly and wonderful, extending to great patience with our halting and imperfect German. The evening couldn't have been more pleasant, with bells ringing from nearby Marienkappelle at 6 P.M. as we sat enjoying cool Silvaner white wine and a shared mug of seasonal Fassbier, followed by bratwursts, sauerkraut, puréed potatoes, Paprikaschnitzel, and french fries. We ended the meal with apple strudel and whipped cream and felt we'd eaten royally. The price of this resplendent (to us) meal was very reasonable, a bit over €60 for two. Most of all, the garden tables were quiet, cool, seemingly far away from the rest of the touristy old city. I'd highly recommend Lämmle to anyone looking for authentic Franconian cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere with good service.

We probably just had a bad day. We wanted to have lunch there on Saturday. The beer garden was busy, but there were still free tables. Everything was free inside the restaurant. Since we're not big on animals, we went inside. We'd been looking forward to it for three days because the menu looked pretty good and everything seemed cozy. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the food because it never happened. We were completely ignored by several servers. No hello, no nothing. Nobody took care of us. We understand that it can take a while, but I've never experienced anything like this before. After we waited a good half hour, and the servers got into several arguments, and a young man argued about his break (which is understandable and important), a man snapped at us with a condition: "I'll come to you soon, maybe in 20 minutes or so." That was the only thing anyone said to us there. We then left. During our entire stay, we were treated with friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness everywhere in Würzburg. Except at the Lämmle, unfortunately. I think the staff there needs to resolve their differences as quickly as possible.

The staff is friendly and accommodating, the food comes quickly, is very good (I had lamb schnitzel), plentiful, and reasonably priced. I will definitely eat here next time I'm in Würzburg, which will be more often in the future.

Saturday we had something to drink outside. Unfortunately, the waitresses were questionable in their communication with each other and with the guests. I found a waiter's statement to a woman to sort herself out before she ordered a bit too cheeky. In a rather mushy way. Hmm... The food was unfortunately touristy.

Very nice atmosphere, rustic and Franconian, just the way we wanted it. The food was OK. As already written in other comments, the food lacked love.

An inn next to the Lady Chapel with good home cooking and a very nice beer garden under old chestnut trees. The friendly and courteous waitresses always had a quick saying, which we really liked. The food was tasty and plentiful and the prices were reasonable. We were always here after 8 p.m. and never had to wait until we were assigned a seat. We'll definitely be back 🤗 P.S. The menu is available on the homepage as a PDF file 👍 Been here again. Food good and service super friendly. The only point of criticism is the entrance to the beer garden. Sometimes it's on both sides, sometimes just from the right. If you're not good at walking, it's stupid if you can't get in on one side and have to walk around the entire beer garden to the other side. My tip is to leave both entrances open and have a sign indicating that you should report to one of the waitresses and then be assigned a free seat. Would make some things easier🤗

Food tastes good, it's very nice

Cozy outdoor area in the city. Service was ok. Unfortunately, the food is just average, a bit bland.

The location is centrally located, relatively quiet and shady. The kitchen offers traditional Franconian dishes. We were only there for a quick drink stopover. Therefore, certain points cannot be evaluated. The portion of fries for an unbeatable 9 EURO was absolutely extortionate! The “large” portion of fries was the size of a normal portion of fries for 3.5-4 euros at the kiosk. Visually the size was increased by a larger than average plate. It was just the classic, industrially manufactured fries (without any special spices or similar) from the frozen food store. The price for a portion of fries was not written down on the menu. The price does not correspond at all to the quality, size or ambience. Even in Munich at Marienplatz, a portion of fries doesn't cost 9 euros. The complaint about usury can be found here because we were told in response to inquiries/feedback that we should complain here. The rest (drinks) were ok. Unfortunately no picture was taken because the overpriced surprise came at the end.

The sour bratwursts were great. The staff could be a little friendlier and less grumpy.

Absolute secret tip if you want to enjoy the best Schäufele in the city at a great price. You can find the Wirtshaus zum Lämmle behind the Marienkapelle on the market. Beautiful beer garden. At around 1 p.m. it is already lying in the sun. Recommendation, the dark Distelhäuser country beer, which is also the basis for the excellent sauce of some dishes, including Schäufele. A very cozy inn, rustic. Because the Schäufele was so excellent, I ate it there two evenings in a row. That speaks for itself. Thank you for the lovely stay. We, my sister and I, felt very comfortable. Very friendly service staff, “inside and outside”. I, we will definitely come back.

Last Saturday we were traveling in Würzburg with a larger group. The beer garden was just right for our purposes. The three slightly spicier “Franconian Bratwursts” with delicious “Sauerkraut” and “Mashed Potatoes” were definitely recommended.

Beautiful old inn in the middle of Würzburg. The Schäufele and the wine that went with it were great and the service was very friendly and always had a smile on her face. You feel comfortable here. In summer there is a beautiful beer garden right in front of the house.

Located in the heart of Würzburg, behind the Marienkapelle (St. Mary's Chapel), is the Lämmle. Reservations are recommended. As far as I know, there is no parking on site. The seating is cozy and rustic, and the service has been remarkably friendly and witty a few times now. Very pleasant. The food came quickly and was good. We'd be happy to go back. Thanks for the lovely stay.

Wir, 2 Pers., waren gegen 16.00 Uhr dort essen. Sehr freundlicher Empfang und sehr nette Bedienung. Das Essen war sehr gut und für Würzburg relativ günstig. Wir waren auch woanders mal einen Schoppen trinken und haben uns die vorbeigetragenen Teller mit Speisen angeguckt. Aber, hat uns nicht überzeugt. Deshalb am nächsten Tag noch mal zum Lämmer.
