Wirtshaus Lämmle in Würzburg

A traditional Franconian restaurant in the heart of Würzburg. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, and the price was reasonable. We had Schäufele (pork shoulder) and Tafelspitz (boiled beef). Since it was my mother's 86th birthday, and the waiter noticed, he even gave her a complimentary dessert. We thought that was very kind. I don't usually write reviews, but this place really deserves praise. Not like the saying, "no news is good news."

Quaint atmosphere, superb waitress, and excellent food. A definite recommendation for Würzburg. Reserving a table in advance is recommended, or you can strike up a conversation with other diners at your table.

We were there for lunch today with four people. All the dishes were absolutely delicious and the service was first-class, deserving of even more stars. You don't find that very often these days. We'll be back.

A good, home-style restaurant with a typically Bavarian (Franconian) atmosphere. The food was delicious and fresh. Despite our spontaneous visit, we were seated without a reservation! The staff was also super friendly. I would happily give it more than 5 stars!

A quaint Franconian restaurant. Reservations are always a must in Würzburg, especially on weekends, but at least here you're more likely to get a seat outside than elsewhere. Excellent shoulder of pork, and all beers are on tap!

Very child-friendly, we felt very comfortable. There are also plenty of vegetarian options, which are listed on the menu.

Very cozy and rustic. We've eaten here eight times and were always very satisfied. Our dog was also welcome in the restaurant.

By far the best Schäufele in Würzburg and the surrounding area. Buttery soft, full of flavor, a perfect crust, amazing sauce, and fluffy dumplings. SUPER!

A very pleasant atmosphere, similar to a basement. We've eaten there twice already. The prices are just about right. Large portions, very good food. A definite recommendation.

The food was delicious. A deep bow to the waitress who, despite the hustle and bustle, kept smiling and didn't give the impression it was busy. Kudos also to the kitchen for preparing the dishes so quickly.

Great Franconian food, very tasty and reasonably priced. Friendly service; we ate there on two days.

The Schäufele had crispy skin, but not completely. The sauce and potato balls were good. €25.50. The battered fish was crispy, but the pieces were a bit small for €18.90. The sauce was good, but the potato salad had too much mayonnaise. The cucumbers were wilted, as if they had been cooked for days. This is typical of potato salads in this city.

I haven't experienced anything so authentic in a long time. The kids were thrilled and even emptied all their plates. A great feeling, a great atmosphere, a wonderful lunch, definitely worth a repeat. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The service was unfazed, wonderfully honest. A tip more than deserved.

With a party of 10, we were able to spontaneously get a seat in the beer garden. While it wasn't possible to move the tables together, that wasn't a problem. There are decent parking spaces for cyclists.

We were here with a larger group, and both drinks and food were served quickly to everyone, so at least each table could eat together. The inn has a rustic charm that we really liked. The service and waiting staff were very friendly and attentive. The only downside was the somewhat limited vegetarian selection (but we knew that beforehand and chose the restaurant anyway). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and we'd be happy to come back.

Right next to the beautiful church and under chestnut trees. But the drinks were absolutely watery. The waitress didn't come to take our order for 30 minutes. She wasn't exactly in a good mood either. Hopefully, she was just having a bad day.

The food is good, the beer and drinks are good, but the service has been rude, impatient, and always annoyed for years. I've been there for dinner several times a day or evening over the years. The service, whether new or old, has always been annoyed, stressed, or just plain rude. If you ask for the last receipt, you're immediately annoyed, even if you ask politely. As the last guest (well before the official closing time), you're not asked politely, but rather rudely asked/demanded, "You're almost finished, right?"

It's a nice outdoor seating area, with a pleasant beer garden feel right in the middle of town. The service is fast – but overwhelmed when we answer the friendly but honest question about whether everything was good: the bratwursts were okay but not particularly tasty, the sauerkraut was sweet from a can, and the mashed potatoes tasted like cardboard – they were definitely from a bag. So, if you're looking for good, high-quality food, this isn't the place for you.

Late in the evening, we enjoyed chilled drinks in the brewery. Friendly service.

The menu offers a wide range of regional cuisine, and the drinks selection should offer something for everyone. We found exactly what we were looking for here and can definitely recommend the inn.

Basically a cozy restaurant with an interesting menu. Since we only wanted a drink, we didn't eat but drank the local beer. As Swiss people do in a cozy pub, we unpacked our Jass cards and started playing Jass. To our horror, we discovered that this wasn't allowed. Why, no one could explain.

By far the best onion steak in the world! Incredibly delicious, superbly seasoned, and top-notch fried potatoes! Be sure to order and eat it! Tastes unbelievably good!

Update August 2025: I have to add my two cents to my own writing: I was right. :) We actually drove 2.5 hours and then decided to take a detour here again so we could enjoy the Schäufele again - that's how much the Lämmle convinced us. Even though the Schäufele has probably become a bit more expensive in the city in general, at €24.50 it's certainly still one of the cheapest in Würzburg - and still excellent! ❤️❤️❤️ The ambiance outside with its mature trees is magical, just like the staff. We've decided to come here at least once or twice a year from now on. And I'm already looking forward to the next time. And I hope I never have to lower my rating. You're not allowed to play with your children at the table while waiting for your food. They also want to "hustle" as many customers through as possible. The food and service are fine, but a rule like this is unacceptable!

We were in Würzburg for the first time and were looking for a restaurant serving typical Franconian dishes. We had a lovely meal under umbrellas in the beer garden. The service was exceptionally good and fast, and the food was excellent.

The food was truly delicious, and the service was quick and uncomplicated. However, the visit leaves a bitter aftertaste. Instead of openly and honestly raising the prices, they seem to prefer cutting back on portion sizes. I ordered a roast pork – traditionally served with two dumplings and side dishes like red cabbage or salad. Here, there were only two dumplings on the plate – nothing else. No cabbage, no salad, no garnish. While it tasted good, it didn't fill you up. In the end, you feel a little deceived. I would have preferred to pay a slightly higher price – but in return, I would have received a wholesome meal that truly deserved its name. What a shame.

Unfriendly and impolite. I just wanted a cappuccino and dared to sit alone at a table in the beer garden near Marienplatz. Four of the approximately 25 tables were occupied on a Saturday at 11:25 a.m. The waitress came and said, "I should sit at one of the back tables in case a larger group arrives!" (??... almost all the tables are empty!) I replied, "I'm just having a quick cappuccino and I'm happy to get up if a group arrives." She turned around and left! Three minutes later, a waiter came and angrily told me to sit at one of the back tables. Are you even still okay? Apparently, the only thing that bothers me here is the customer! I then went across the street to "Hans im Glück" – top service and very friendly!

This was our second time in Würzburg, and hunger drove us back to the Lämmle restaurant. It's located in the heart of Würzburg's old town. This time, we had the Schäuferle burger with fries, and we also ordered the delicious coleslaw as an extra. The service was very attentive and friendly! We'd love to come back a third time!

Superb classic Franconian cuisine, top service! Excellent value for money! Unfortunately, that's no longer a given these days. You can rely on Lämmle.

We ate here two years ago on our day trip to Würzburg. We actually found the food pretty good, so I wanted to eat here again recently, on a weekday afternoon when it was very quiet. But this time, unfortunately, it wasn't appealing at all. I had breaded chicken breast with potato salad, and I have to say, the chicken breast looked and tasted like cheap cafeteria food and not homemade. The potato salad was edible, but I was really disappointed and don't think we'll eat there again on our next visit to Würzburg. What a shame.

Three years later – and still great! The food was once again plentiful and good, especially the salad and red cabbage were impressive: fresh, delicious, and simply perfect. Everyone at the table was satisfied, full, and happy. The staff was attentive, cheerful, and rounded off the visit pleasantly. Fair prices, too – we certainly won't wait another three years to come back!

Well, the food was very salty, as I pointed out. So far, no one has complained. I have to say, it was a mess, the sauce was a disaster.

A great restaurant with good value for money. The portions are generous, and a side salad isn't necessary. (We didn't quite finish ours.) The service was polite and gave us plenty of time to choose without being intrusive. We feel at home here and will definitely come back next time we're in Würzburg.

We were there during the week to present Franconian food to a visitor. It was delicious, and the service staff was warm and accommodating. I chose the modern version and ordered a Schäufele burger. Highly recommended! We had a lovely evening at Lämmle :)

We ordered the wrong food, so when the food came out, they said it wasn't ours. It was our mistake, but the person who served the food (who seemed to be Asian or Chinese) had a really bad expression and even pointed at us. The service was really bad. The food came out quickly and the atmosphere was good, but I'm going to go to another restaurant now.

We spent a delightful several hours in the shady garden restaurant outside Wirthaus Lämmle this evening. Service was friendly and wonderful, extending to great patience with our halting and imperfect German. The evening couldn't have been more pleasant, with bells ringing from nearby Marienkappelle at 6 P.M. as we sat enjoying cool Silvaner white wine and a shared mug of seasonal Fassbier, followed by bratwursts, sauerkraut, puréed potatoes, Paprikaschnitzel, and french fries. We ended the meal with apple strudel and whipped cream and felt we'd eaten royally. The price of this resplendent (to us) meal was very reasonable, a bit over €60 for two. Most of all, the garden tables were quiet, cool, seemingly far away from the rest of the touristy old city. I'd highly recommend Lämmle to anyone looking for authentic Franconian cuisine and a pleasant atmosphere with good service.

We probably just had a bad day. We wanted to have lunch there on Saturday. The beer garden was busy, but there were still free tables. Everything was free inside the restaurant. Since we're not big on animals, we went inside. We'd been looking forward to it for three days because the menu looked pretty good and everything seemed cozy. Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the food because it never happened. We were completely ignored by several servers. No hello, no nothing. Nobody took care of us. We understand that it can take a while, but I've never experienced anything like this before. After we waited a good half hour, and the servers got into several arguments, and a young man argued about his break (which is understandable and important), a man snapped at us with a condition: "I'll come to you soon, maybe in 20 minutes or so." That was the only thing anyone said to us there. We then left. During our entire stay, we were treated with friendliness, courtesy, and helpfulness everywhere in Würzburg. Except at the Lämmle, unfortunately. I think the staff there needs to resolve their differences as quickly as possible.

A lovely and cozy restaurant with an old wooden floor and plenty of seating. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the food comes quickly, is very good (I had lamb schnitzel), plentiful, and reasonably priced. I will definitely eat here next time I'm in Würzburg, which will be more often in the future.

I found a waiter's statement to a woman to sort herself out before she ordered a bit too cheeky. In a rather mushy way. Hmm... The food was unfortunately touristy.
