Backöfele in Würzburg

I had the wedding meal. For the price, the food wasn't very good. The sauce was very bland, barely tasting of horseradish, there was just a tiny spoonful of cranberries, and the pasta was cold and quite hard in places. The server took forever to take the payment. The restaurant itself is incredibly beautiful and very large! The drink prices are okay, but not the price of the food, especially since it was served on warm plates.

The food and service were great, but despite having a reservation, it was very cramped. When we mentioned this, we were simply told that's just how it is on Saturdays. Therefore, the ambiance only gets one star – the room was far too crowded, dark, cramped, loud, and it felt like there was no oxygen. We paid immediately after eating and left in a hurry, even though we could have stayed for almost another hour. Apparently, tables are only available in two-hour increments.

Absolutely outstanding food! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The dumplings were divine, the pork shoulder incredibly tender, and the roast pork so lean and succulent. Perfect. We sat in the front "winter garden." One minor drawback: it gets a bit noisy and very warm there during guest turnover. The service staff is incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient. Even special requests were handled without any problems. Thank you—despite the restaurant being packed—for this lovely evening.

Bring some time! Backöfele is a great place to sit and chat, so ordering might take a little longer. Reservations are a must. The seasonal menu and the dishes were absolutely fantastic. Even the classics were incredibly delicious.

The atmosphere is rustic, the staff friendly. The food wasn't bad, but nothing special either. The pork shoulder was good meat-wise, the sauerkraut well-seasoned and not as sweet as you sometimes get it, but unfortunately the sauce was very bland and there wasn't nearly enough for two dumplings. The crispy breaded turkey steak tasted good, and the hash browns as a side dish were okay – unfortunately, there were no vegetables at all, and the sauce, like the other components, was lukewarm rather than hot. You can tell they're trying to handle a lot of food here. For what you get, it was a bit too expensive.

An interesting and unusual ambiance. Unfortunately, my cordon bleu and potato salad were disappointing. Only half of it was very thinly filled, so you could barely taste it, and it was bland. I had the impression it wasn't seasoned. The potato salad was too cold and also poorly seasoned. Was it dressed with hot water instead of hot broth? My son also had a cordon bleu and agrees with me. The kitchen's performance was below average. My son's girlfriend had the vegan lentil roast with red cabbage and dumplings and was satisfied. The dish is a great option and stands out from the "Käsespätzle" (cheese spaetzle) at other restaurants! My wife was very happy with her venison patty.

The friendly service staff were very sweet. We had a meat dish, one of their signature dishes, with ginger sauce, which might be enjoyable for those who want to try something different. The atmosphere was very nice.

Absolutely great! There are cozy corners and brighter, more lively tables... just the way you like it. On their website, you can choose between different table sizes and times! It's always a good fit!

Unassuming from the outside, a real hidden gem, quaint atmosphere, perhaps a bit too dark for some, but I like that sort of thing. The food was delicious, the service very friendly, we had a bit of bad luck with our order, the food took a little longer, but we got a complimentary schnapps – we thought that was great!

The food was very good, as was the service. However, the tables were very close together, the noise level was extremely high… and the air in the windowless, dark, and extremely tightly packed room was correspondingly stuffy.

We came on a recommendation; otherwise, we wouldn't have found the restaurant. A quaint little place. The service was very friendly and attentive. However, the food: the pork chop was overcooked, the supposed pepper sauce had no pepper but plenty of thyme. The pork shoulder arrived five minutes after the other dishes and was unfortunately only lukewarm. We must have caught the kitchen off guard. A shame.

A wonderfully decorated restaurant with great attention to detail, offering typical Franconian specialties, from Blaue Zipfel (blue sausages) and Grupfter (a type of dumpling) to Schäufele (pork shoulder)... simply fantastic and incredibly delicious! Whether in the heated courtyard or the rustic tavern: this visit will be a treat, not least because of the ambiance 😀

I recommended you to my friends, and unfortunately, they were very, very disappointed. We had a reservation for 9:30 pm, and the food arrived at 9:45 pm, all three dishes at once. The ice cream melted because we had to eat the appetizers first. The waitress was incredibly unfriendly; she either didn't want to be there or probably couldn't speak English, who knows? She should be ashamed of herself for treating guests like that. It's ridiculous that you can reserve a table for 9:30 pm on the website, and then the kitchen closes at 10:00 pm. I will not be recommending you again. Very disappointed 😞

We’re reserved at 21:30 , arrived at 21:30 and our table was not ready … the time we had a seat they asked us to order because the kitchen was closing. We ordered our food and they asked us to order even the desert . So we ordered even the desert thinking it will come after the food , instead they brought everything together .. it was rude , and the staff was rude too … we didn’t really understand if it was racism or just a bad day . Would say the first one because we saw the others were not treated the same.

We received a recommendation and were very satisfied. We hadn't made a reservation, but got a table without any problems (2 people, 6:45 pm). We recommend making a reservation for larger groups. The food was delicious, and there were no long waits, even though it was very busy. The only slight drawback was that we were seated by the outside door, and it was quite drafty there, as people were constantly coming and going. Although there are two curtains to provide some protection, it's still quite chilly at the tables.

We were a large group of 13 people, and the service was good and efficient, more on that later. The wine selection was excellent, and the food was great. We were all very satisfied. Due to a reservation that followed us, we only had just under two hours from sitting down to finishing our meal – but we knew that beforehand. It was still a shame, but it doesn't affect my rating at all. I'm still deducting one point for the service. As I mentioned earlier, the prompts to order "next" were quite amusing at first, but after a while, it became rather annoying to constantly hear "it's not your turn." While they understand that you have to assert yourself in a group, they can certainly order another beer in the three-second window while your neighbor is considering their order. Or so you'd think... In short, they were a bit too assertive. With an average age of around 50, we weren't exactly teenagers who needed to be told how things work. But: all in all, highly recommended.

The service was always attentive and very friendly despite the restaurant being packed, which leads me to my only complaint. Because it was so full, it was a bit noisy at times. Of course, we'll still gladly come back, thank you so much to the whole team for a wonderful evening! 🥰

A very quaint Franconian restaurant; we were a party of seven. It was very busy, practically packed, but we still had friendly and efficient service. The food was truly excellent and incredibly plentiful! Almost none of us could finish everything. The daily aperitif recommendation was superb! The only downside was the Kaiserschmarrn, which unfortunately wasn't quite what we expected; we've had better. But still, full marks because it was a really lovely evening at the restaurant!

Absolute mass processing. The curtains in the entrance area make you feel like you're entering a haunted house. The quality of the food was substandard. There was absolutely no value for money. The condition of the restrooms and toilets was appalling; the authorities should definitely take a look.

Nice ambiance, very stylish, authentic. The staff is friendly but not particularly nice or anything like that. The food, unfortunately, only lived up to expectations, if not less. The Wiener Schnitzel, unfortunately, wasn't recognizable as such. Two schnitzels on the plate were the size of one regular schnitzel. The breading was smooth, as if prepared in advance in large quantities and fried in a little oil. The roasts lacked zest, no bacon, and too little salt, pepper, and nutmeg. The Sauerbraten was good but not outstanding, and definitely not worth more than €30. Ultimately, it's nice, but you definitely shouldn't go there expecting a German culinary highlight. You'll be disappointed.

Nice shop, pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately, the service wasn't very friendly and seemed quite annoyed. The order was taken in a listless and annoyed manner. Furthermore, they strictly adhere to the two-hour time limit. If you want to eat in peace and without time pressure, this is not the place for you. After two hours, an inappropriate comment came up, and we were rudely informed that we were already six minutes overdue and should please leave. I think customer satisfaction should be our top priority – unfortunately, not the case here.

Fantastic! We're here for the second day in a row today – absolutely thrilled – and we've already made a reservation for tomorrow. The food is delicious, wonderful, home-style cooking. The staff is super friendly, accommodating, and very welcoming. If you leave yourself some room (the portions are large), you should definitely order dessert – I highly recommend the apple pancakes! In short: Go eat there! 😄 10/10

An exceptionally good restaurant with delicious regional cuisine, good wines, and outstanding service in a very pleasant setting in Würzburg's old town. Since I was invited there, I can only comment on the prices to a limited extent. The portions were relatively generous. The quality of the food was above average. As far as I can tell from a quick glance at the menu, the prices are high, but reasonable.

This was my second time at Backöfele. The first time, both the food and the service were really great, and there was nothing to complain about. Yesterday was different. I ordered the onion braised roast and was a bit disappointed. The food was hot, but the sauce had partially gelled and formed a skin. The meat was a bit tough and dry, which even the delicious sauce couldn't make up for. The highlight were the perfect dumplings. There was nothing to complain about. My companion's meal, the wild boar with mushroom ragout, was also fantastic. Overall, the food isn't bad, but I think dry meat and sauce with skin are a shame for the price.

A very beautiful, traditional restaurant with a very special atmosphere. A little tip at the beginning: Make sure you make a reservation!!! When you walk in, it's not easy to find the way to the check-in area, but you'll be directed there very kindly. The service staff are very attentive, friendly, and competent. The wine list is very extensive and well-explained, even for a layperson. The menu offers delicious regional delicacies, from which we chose the roast beef with onion dumplings in beer sauce and the cordon bleu with fried potatoes (not quite so regional 😉). The portions were just right. The meat was tender, like butter, and the fried potatoes were crispy. An all-around lovely evening, and we'll definitely be back.

The place was very busy, and the noise level was correspondingly high, with a lot of service personnel. The food was on the table within minutes. I would have waited a bit longer and expected a meal of the same quality given the rather high prices. As it was, it was average at best. Two servers collided during service, and while I was waiting, I was already looking at a schnitzel with fried potatoes on the floor. No chance of a repeat, as we visited several restaurants in Würzburg. Our table server (I think it was Lisa) deserved full marks.

The restaurant is very tightly packed with tables. The waiters constantly gave the impression of being overwhelmed. The food was okay, but the service was very subpar, also due to the conditions described above. Requests to change or adjust the side dishes were categorically rejected, citing the restaurant's busy schedule. A splitting of the bill—we were a group of seven—was rigorously and very rudely refused. The manager of the restaurant acted arrogantly and very smug. We heard how other guests who had similar experiences were "brushed off." We've spared ourselves any complaints, but we would neither recommend the "Backöfele" nor visit it again ourselves.

The quality of the food was okay, but not superior. Since the prices are on the higher side, you can expect a bit more in the details. Overall, though, a good experience in Würzburg.

We reserved a table for the evening at relatively short notice. It worked out perfectly. The parking situation there seems to depend critically on the time of day. The ambiance was great. The service and food were both very good. The Franconian Schäufele (a kind of dumpling) is superb. For dessert, the Kaiserschmarren (smothered pancake) was incredible. I'll definitely order it again if I get the chance.

We were in Würzburg for the first time and discovered this wonderful restaurant in a side street. We were absolutely thrilled. A fantastic atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, and incredibly good food. We had Schäuferle (a kind of pork shoulder) and Franconian Sauerbraten (a kind of sauerbraten), and we absolutely loved it. The draft beer that accompanied it was also very drinkable. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

A place for an alternative evening. It's very nice, I must say, medieval style, very noisy, people talk loudly 😂 to talk to the person in front of you you have to shout, but it's still a fantastic place. Excellent food, excellent service, obviously good beer, generous portions 😋
