The worst restaurant I’ve been :(

The best pork knuckle in dark beer sauce I've ever had. The tavern's atmosphere and decor are spectacular.

Very nice, rustic ambiance and friendly service. It was very busy, resulting in a high noise level. You get the impression that you're being "processed" a bit faster to make room for the next guests. The quality of the food was okay, but not superior. Since the prices are on the higher side, you can expect a bit more in the details. Overall, though, a good experience in Würzburg.

We reserved a table for the evening at relatively short notice. It worked out perfectly. The parking situation there seems to depend critically on the time of day. The ambiance was great. The service and food were both very good. The Franconian Schäufele (a kind of dumpling) is superb. For dessert, the Kaiserschmarren (smothered pancake) was incredible. I'll definitely order it again if I get the chance.

The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, perfect for a relaxing evening with friends or family. The service staff was extremely friendly and attentive, which made the visit even more enjoyable. The menu offers a wonderful selection of authentic dishes, all prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The atmosphere and decor are tastefully chosen, lending a special touch to the whole experience. Hygiene is also a top priority here, which is very important these days.

We were privileged to enjoy the Backöfele! With super attentive service (thanks to Mr. Thum), we were guided through the evening, and we were able to more than enjoy the excellent cuisine and the ambiance. We would gladly return! And can recommend it to others.

A place for an alternative evening. It's very nice, I must say, medieval style, very noisy, people talk loudly 😂 to talk to the person in front of you you have to shout, but it's still a fantastic place. Excellent food, excellent service, obviously good beer, generous portions 😋

We were in Würzburg for the first time and discovered this wonderful restaurant in a side street. We were absolutely thrilled. A fantastic atmosphere, incredibly friendly staff, and incredibly good food. We had Schäuferle (a kind of pork shoulder) and Franconian Sauerbraten (a kind of sauerbraten), and we absolutely loved it. The draft beer that accompanied it was also very drinkable. We'll definitely be back. Highly recommended.

It's still the same as it was 20 years ago. Nice rustic ambiance. The food isn't bad, but comparatively expensive. It's always packed. The service seemed irritated. It's worth going there once. As a Würzburg native, I'd go somewhere else for Franconian food. What the Hofbräuhaus is to Munich, the Backöfele is here. Such a touristy thing.

We made a reservation the morning of the same day and got a table. It was very cozy in the hunting room. The waitress who served us was friendly and competent. The food was delicious. The chef himself is actively involved and is very friendly, approachable, and open to conversation. We would love to come back.

I explained the gluten issue, and they said it was no problem. The salad arrived with three slices of fried bread on top. They brought me a plate so I could put the bread aside. I told them that wasn't the case. I needed a new salad. They took it away, and a little while later, they brought me the same one. My body confirmed it in less than 30 minutes.

The Backöfele is an institution in Würzburg. We've been here so many times, and the food has always been delicious! Great service, but you should make a reservation!

The food is okay, but the waiters are a disaster, and the service is terrible. The waiters act like they don't want customers, as if they don't care about you. If you ask for something, you might get a scolding or they might even talk to you like you're beating you up. Be careful.

We spontaneously dropped in at Backofen yesterday around 6:30 p.m. – and were absolutely thrilled! The ambiance is simply fantastic: quaint, charming, authentic – you feel like you've traveled back to the 18th century and are dining in a cozy dive bar. This atmosphere is unique and immediately makes you feel at home. The staff was outstanding – super friendly, attentive, helpful, and always courteous. The motto "The customer is king" is truly lived here! Even though we arrived unannounced, we were immediately given a table for six, which we shared with a very nice English couple – which was absolutely fine. The restaurant was quite busy, but the warm atmosphere and cozy decor made us feel immediately welcome. The exceptional menu with regional dishes made the short wait easier. We started with liver dumpling soup – a poem! For our main course, we chose a pork chop with bacon-wrapped beans and mashed potatoes, and two bratwursts with sauerkraut and black bread. The cutlet was tender as butter, perfectly cooked, and served with a wonderfully balanced gravy – simply fantastic! The sausages were also of the highest quality, and the sauerkraut was perfectly seasoned. A cold Kellerbier with it – what more could you want? Around 7:45 p.m., we left this wonderful restaurant, completely full and happy – about €60 lighter, but richer for a fantastic culinary experience. Conclusion: An absolute must for anyone who appreciates a rustic atmosphere, excellent service, and outstanding regional cuisine. We'll definitely be back!

Highly recommended! A highlight for families or larger groups. The food is incredibly delicious and regional. The service is suitably rustic and hospitable. The atmosphere is fantastic and very stylish, perfect for anyone looking for an authentic Würzburg inn. The location is two minutes away from the hustle and bustle but still easy to find. There's seating inside, as well as in the courtyard. It's also a highlight in the evening with the lighting. Parking directly at the restaurant is probably a bit difficult. This is probably the biggest drawback; it's definitely a gamble for spontaneous visits. We would return without hesitation anytime and thank you for the wonderful evening.

It's 100% worth visiting the Backofen. The food was delicious and the selection was huge. The staff is very friendly and speaks German and English. Even our dog got a bowl of water. The restaurant itself is quaint. Great atmosphere and very clean. We'd love to go back.

Quaint restaurant in Würzburg's old town. The service was very attentive and friendly. The food was good, but not outstanding. The chicken breast fillet was, in our opinion, pressed meat, which is disappointing for a restaurant like this. The Schupfnudeln dish, however, was very tasty.

The restaurant is a bit hidden, but once you enter the courtyard, you'll be immediately surprised! Candlelight is everywhere and the glass-roofed ambiance is breathtaking. The view of the house is also very beautiful! The service is very friendly, and the food arrived quickly and was truly delicious! We'll be back!

A classic pub offering local food and beers, in a simple and pleasant setting. The first thing is the division of the space into separate areas, so as not to overcrowd. Porcini mushrooms abound.

The food was delicious, but I found the restaurant itself a little less cozy due to the large number of people. What was truly outstanding, however, was the service. When I called to ask if we could arrive earlier than our reservation, Veronika was very friendly. And when an appetizer was missing from our table, our waitress noticed it and immediately took care of it, apologized, and informed us. Mistakes can happen, especially with such a large number of guests, but how you handle them really makes the difference. Isabell served us with exceptional warmth and friendliness throughout the rest of the evening, ensuring that we were satisfied at all times.

A definite must-visit in Würzburg. A perfect combination of a rustic Franconian atmosphere combined with modernly presented dishes. The Kaiserschmarrn is highly recommended! (It was the best tasting experience I've had so far)

Very busy when we arrived at 7pm so we had to wait for a table. Very nice waiter who sat us on a "waiting bench" in the heart of the restaurant and offered us a Secco while we waited. The service was fast and very nice, the food was absolutely fantastic! Large portions! Wonderful environment!

A few minutes out of the busy center, this is a place to enjoy the best this region has to offer. I had the excellent Sauerbraten, which took me back to my childhood with its discreet sweetness and the surprising presence of cinnamon. The double portioned wine glasses were exceptionally good as well.
