Quaint restaurant, great service (quick and friendly), fine down-to-earth cuisine

So... I basically always believed that food was just to fill me up. I've often eaten in the restaurant... but the oven did something that I didn't expect. I got a coffee and the turkey steak Ate...at first glance I didn't really know what to expect. However, when I saw the waiter, who is probably the most personable person on the planet, and the nice way he took our order, I knew I hadn't done anything wrong I ate the food more slowly than ever before... every bite tasted better than the one before it... I got hungrier and hungrier until I was finished. I didn't want to drink my coffee anymore because otherwise the taste would be lost. I don't regret anything... Not a cent... no time to drive there... it was PERFECT

At first glance, you might think it's a tourist place... but you quickly realize that there are a lot of locals. The food is simple and typical, the plates are generous and the prices are very affordable.

7 enthusiastic Sauerlanders would like to thank you for a great stay at Backöfele. The selection of dishes and their quality, prices, ambience and, last but not least, a service staff who gave their all, lead us to this praise. He also 'translated' the menu for us here and there. ;-)

Great restaurant, sensationally delicious food and incredibly competent and friendly staff.

Went there spontaneously and got a table without a reservation. Top. The food was good. The chanterelle salad could have tasted a little more vinaigrette. The lentil stew was wonderfully seasoned. Service was great!!

WOW! Absolutely wow! Incredibly good food. Very very friendly service. I came across this restaurant by luck while passing through (Bavaria/NRW) - highly recommended!!! The sauerbraten with the gingerbread sauce was incredibly good!🥹😍

Delicious food and drinks too. We had opted for typical local dishes but did not know which wine was good, this was excellently supplemented by our waiter. Later in the evening we had a fantastic hazelnut drink, not sweet but just hazelnut. This was also a regional specialty. So if you want a nice evening and enjoy the local cuisine, eat (and drink) here.

Great food in a very appropriate atmosphere and very attentive service

What a special experience!! The atmosphere is excellent. Waiters were very friendly and pleasant. Gave good tips on what food they recommend. The flavors were exquisite. We had heard good stories about the desserts, but unfortunately we didn't try them ourselves. We would like to come back here.

Was there for my mother's birthday with 20 people! Food was delicious, service was very accommodating. But be careful, if you bring your own cake you will be charged €6.50 per person. demanded - This is a rip-off!!

When visiting Würzburg, the Backöfele should definitely be on your agenda. High quality food, very friendly service and a very rustic atmosphere. Reservations should be made in advance for groups of 4 or more :-)

A great restaurant in the middle of Würzburg. Classic dishes freshly prepared and served in a great, rustic atmosphere. Very friendly and courteous service. This is what you want to spend an evening eating. In addition to the meat, the vegetarian dishes are also delicious and differ from the usual dumplings with sauce! Thank you, we will definitely come back.

We ate here because of the good reviews and can only agree. Great staff, the food came quickly and was very good, the beautiful ambience invites you to linger. We'd love to come back.

Not like it was a few years ago

Miserable food, neither taste nor consistency - and it wasn't warm either! How this restaurant made it into the top 10 in Würzburg is a mystery to us. We were a small group and were there on a weekday around 5:30 p.m. The service ok. The ambience is nice. All of us wanted some typical french food, disappointing. We *do not* recommend the Backöfele!

We had a delicious meal there and also found the service very good. There was no table available for 2, so we were allowed to sit at a larger table where others might also be sitting. This happened, a German woman alone, it was very nice! A good choice to eat here!

The baking oven. - A very good restaurant with Franconian cuisine. I especially like the atmosphere in the yard in winter. The restaurant then has very nice indirect lighting, which looks very romantic and cozy. If you want to be sure of a place, you should definitely make a reservation.

You can eat well in the oven. The restaurant is rustically furnished. Despite the full tables, the staff was friendly, competent and quick. The food was delicious 😋 and plentiful.

On a Saturday evening around 6 p.m. we asked - without a reservation and little hope - for 2 free places. The very charming and friendly Heer, who organized the seats, asked us to sit on a small bench for a moment and had us brought some champagne! After about 15 minutes of waiting (sweetened by the champagne) we got a table. We wouldn't have been angry if he had told us that everything was taken. Thanks! The following meal & service were great.

A sure value...traditional restaurant with a pretty interior courtyard. Very friendly welcome. Tasty food. The wine is excellent as well as the William pear schnapps. The dessert was delicious and too filling!

We made a reservation at very short notice and got space in the “outside area”. As always, the service is top and the food was again very tasty.

We have been visiting the Backöfele for 20 years. The ambience is unique and the food is very good. If you're vegan, you shouldn't go to this restaurant - meat dishes are prepared perfectly and traditionally here.

Quaint restaurant in the middle of Würzburg. A manageable menu with regional dishes and our own drinks. Price performance was perfectly fine.

The pork schnitzel was perfect. Salad is simply great. Lentil stew is great, you don't get it that often anymore. Cordon Bleu perfect including salad. Service made it possible for us to still get seats. As always, nice, rustic atmosphere

We went to the Backöfele with a group (14 people) after the commercials on TV and had high hopes for ourselves. Unfortunately there was a lot of criticism. Schäufele burnt, dumplings cold. Not to mention the prices. The absolute worst case scenario was that the billing was not based on people, but only on a table-by-table basis. We had to pay the bills ourselves be compiled by individual people. Thank you for at least providing paper and pen😡.

The first address not only for tourists! If you would like to experience the Franconian culture and its happy get-together -> come in here! You should feel the love for culture when you look at the pictures. The candlelight and its associated warmth create an effect in every season, balanced with the interior = crazy! Unfortunately I forgot, I'm actually here to eat. The crusty roast falls apart when dipped in with a fork. For that reason alone I would like to try the other dishes (Kaiserschmarr’n). Franconian chefs can rightly be a bit unique. However, like everywhere else, I need salt for my dumplings. A delight for all tradition lovers + tourists who want to know why we all think it's so great!

The place in itself has a great atmosphere, you feel almost it’s a hidden gem in the city. The staff is very polite unfortunately the food seemed only average. We may have chosen the wrong dishes. I could easily visit the place again. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to come back on this visit to the city.

Beautiful restaurant with delicious food!

Today, for the first time in 50 years, I experienced an innkeeper in Würzburg who understands hospitality in such a way that, despite making a reservation, he refused to let my 87-year-old mother-in-law have a reserved table on her birthday because we did not obsequiously follow his instructions, but waited in a friendly manner for our table! !! Never experienced it, NEVER AGAIN! Overwhelmed because overcrowded?!

Never again. An impudent, overwhelmed manager who orders his guests around. Cramped, loud, hectic, not recommended for a nice evening.

Great food, very cozy, friendly staff

Nice and cozy restaurant in the center. Despite the crowds, we were still able to get a seat for 2 from the friendly staff. Food was delicious as well as dessert. We also enjoyed the atmosphere.

We were able to spend a wonderful evening here for two ☺️ The atmosphere, the food and the service were great and we would come back at any time!

From an atmospheric point of view, it's a real eye-catcher. Great indoor area, nice outdoor area to sit outside. However, the table for two people that was assigned to us was awkwardly located right next to the oven and had hardly any room for our feet. Food was okay, of course far from bad but nothing special. Unfortunately, the salmon gave us a stomach ache afterwards. Overall, it's okay for a Franconian experience but I wouldn't come again.

Good atmosphere, very traditional (although quite dark indoors!) We enjoyed our food for the most part- we weren’t particularly used to Franconian food as such it wasn’t our favourite, but the food was good quality and very generous portion sizes.

The food is worth every penny. There were 8 of us there, both drinks and food came to the table quickly. We had everything from vegetarian, fish and meat dishes and everything tasted excellent. People regularly asked whether everything was okay and whether anything else was needed. To round things off, our birthday 'child' was served a warm chocolate cake, which was on the house. The furnishings are super comfortable and the volume is also pleasant. All in all, I can recommend the restaurant to everyone.

I ate Wiener Schnitzer, everything was great except for the breading. It was soft and greasy, not crispy. You didn't see any blisters either. The service didn't respond to my feedback, but it was really busy. She said she would pass it on and that was it. Still looking for the perfect Wiener Schnitzel.

Parking is rather poor but there is a parking garage nearby. The service is super nice, although sometimes the drinks are a bit behind when it's full, but the food was really amazing! Really good value for money for most dishes. Generally good portions and it tastes really good too. And be sure to make a reservation, it is often extremely crowded.

We planned a day of vacation in Würzburg and reserved a table in the Backöfele in advance. When we got there we were sat at a table without hello, good day or anything like that, well, for free, everyone has a bad day sometimes. But there is no feeling that the guest feels welcome. We really, really liked the restaurant, both inside and outside in the covered area. The service is friendly and very attentive. The glass is not yet empty, people are already asking... We ordered 2 stews and as soon as the order was out, the food was already on the table. Yikes, so fast? Of course the chef doesn't start stewing when the guest orders, that's clear to me. But the meat tasted very dried out and wasn't really hot, and unfortunately neither were the side dishes. It's a shame and not really recommended for the price.

The food is delicious, but the service was once again very rude. We made a reservation online and called again to see if we could sit outside. This was answered in the affirmative on the phone, and we were told on site that there were no tables outside for the number of people we had and that we weren't allowed to push them together. It's a shame, given the prices you should expect better customer service.

Nice economy attentive and nice staff

The Backöfele is really an insider tip for Würzburg. We had delicious food and a great Franconian wine. The atmosphere was really cozy and quaint. We went on a recommendation and were not disappointed. All in all, a really nice evening in a great restaurant. Can just be recommended!

Delicious Franconian cuisine. Unfortunately the atmosphere is bland, narrow, stuffy and dark. Very short distances to the neighboring table. At some points you have to shout at each other. Nice service, unfortunately quite expensive.

If you haven't reserved a table, you may be rudely told that all seats are full. Even if a table becomes available shortly. I can't say anything about the food; However, the waitress seems very unfriendly and doesn't seem interested in making money.

Once upon a time my absolute favorite. This time I'm really very disappointed. The starter salad with the king prawns was very clear. You had to look for the cucumbers. The vegetarian alternative, namely green seed patties, stunned me. When it came to oven vegetables, the carrots were very hard. The “yoghurt dip” was slapped into the glass and unfortunately the patties weren’t patties. They fell apart and were so spicy that you couldn't eat them. There is a complete lack of love for the job here. The Backöfele now seems like a tourist restaurant to me. It's a real shame, honestly. Service is very nice and accommodating!!!

Great ambience. Unfortunately very listless and unfriendly service. Especially the older one. The food was just average. You can eat much better in Würzburg. For example in old Kranen.

A must-visit restaurant in Würzburg. There are several halls to choose, one has glass ceiling! The atmosphere is magical - there are old lanterns, wooden furniture and small architectural details that make the place something special. The menu is absolutely cute-designed, and the variety of dishes is great. We ordered Schnitzel and Lentil stew and both dishes were delicious. It was the best lentil dish I ever had in my life. The peach tea is something you should try in this restaurant - tasty and refreshing. For the desert we had the famous Kaiserschmarrn - it's Backöfele specialty and is delicious beyond imagination. There was the perfectly baked and caramelized dough, apple slices, grapes, blueberries, 4 scoops of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate sauce on the top. I absolutely recommend visiting this great restaurant when in Würzburg!

Very nice restaurant and the food was very tasty.

This happened to us for the first time in our lives: the three of us arrived at 4 p.m. and wanted to eat for about an hour. Were sent away even though almost all tables were free because it was expected to be busy a little later in the evening. No compromise was sought and the friendliness of the staff was also missing. A ridiculous situation, but we were able to eat a few streets away with good service and a better atmosphere.

Food served quickly and was very busy. We were outside again in no time.

Food was bland and “slammed” onto the plate completely carelessly for a “wedding meal”. I found the price to be very excessive. Service is rather semi-friendly. All in all, not a real recommendation.

VERY BAD SERVICE, VERY DISRESPECTFUL EMPLOYEE AND VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY VISIT

Oh well. The snails as a starter are poor and can be saved. Little taste, over-fried and boring. The main course “Kassler Pfännle” wasn’t sparkling, but OK. Our place was stupid, right at the entrance and it was terribly drafty. Conclusion: OK, but not a second time

Food is worth the trip. Order seats in good time. Try it yourself.
