Wirtshaus beim Kesslar in Oberstaufen

Wir wollten um 20 Uhr etwas essen und wurden unwirsch weggeschickt. Es war heute wenig los, der Wirt hatte den Koch schon nach Hause geschickt.

Essen geschmacklich gut. Röstkartoffeln etwas zu viel Öl und nicht knusprig, sonst alles top. Preis etwas zu viel für Portionsgröße. Waren an einem Sonntag dort und gab nicht mehr alles von der Karte (Essen und Trinken) etwas schade, da die Bedienung eigentlich echt nett war. :)

Die Käsespätzle waren wirklich gut. Man hat zwar gemerkt, dass die Spätzle kein handgemachtes Produkt waren, aber Käse, Schmelz und Röstzwiebeln waren hervorragend abgestimmt. Damit konnte ich sehr gut leben. Der Kaiserschmarrn hingegen war für mich eine echte Enttäuschung. Die Stücke waren perfekt rechteckig, gleich groß und identisch geformt. Das war kein frisch zubereiteter Kaiserschmarrn, sondern ganz offensichtlich ein vorgefertigtes Produkt. Jeder, der schon einmal selbst Kaiserschmarrn gemacht hat, weiß, dass dieser durch das Ausbacken und Zerreißen niemals in identischen, symmetrischen Würfeln auf dem Teller landet. Dazu kam, dass praktisch keine Karamellisierung erkennbar war. Das Apfelmus wirkte sehr dünn und konnte den Gesamteindruck nicht verbessern. Und um das klarzustellen: Es geht mir ausdrücklich nicht um den Preis. Es geht darum, dass man in einer Region wie dem Allgäu bei einem Gericht, das zur kulinarischen Tradition gehört, ein vorgefertigtes Produkt serviert. Das empfinde ich als äußerst enttäuschend. Die Küche hat mit den Käsespätzle gezeigt, dass sie deutlich mehr kann. Umso unverständlicher war dieser Kaiserschmarrn.

Kartoffelsalat ist nicht zu empfehlen. Sonst alles Super. Preis Leistung top.

Ein richtig schönes altes Wirtshaus. Wunderschönes Fachwerkgebäude, innen rustikal eingerichtet, aber nicht touristisch verspielt und verkitscht, wie sonst gerne. Es wird eine kleine Speisekarte geboten plus Tagesgerichte. Alles frisch, keine Friteusen- und Convenience-Produkte. Mischung aus Allgäuer und italienischen Spezialitäten. Alles sehr gut. Sehr freundlicher Service, man fühlt sich wohl. Reservierung erforderlich, da nicht allzu gross (geschätzt 40-50 Plätze). Leider schließt die Gaststätte Ende Jahr. Also schnell noch hin!

Wir haben da spontan am 1.5. zu Abend gegessen. Wir hatten Glück und haben noch einen Außenplatz ergattert. Reservieren ist scheinbar Pflicht in Oberstaufen. 😊 Der Kellner ( grosser schlanker Mann) war wirklich sehr freundlich auch die Kellnerin ( blonde Dame) das Essen war wirklich außerordentlich lecker und auch reichlich von der Portion her. Ich hatte die Hähnchenbrust die war wirklich total zart und die Soße mega lecker. Die Kinder hatten Bratkartoffeln zu ihrem Schnitzel die waren wirklich mehr als begeistert von den Kartoffeln. Kein Fritteusen Mist sondern wirklich in der Pfanne gemacht so wie es sein sollte. Einfach ein Traum. Grosses Lob an den tollen Service und das mega leckere Essen.

War alles top. Das Essen war sehr lecker, die Portionen sehr groß und Service super nett. Kommen gerne wieder und ist sehr weiterzuempfehlen. Allerdings würden wir raten zu reservieren.

Klein aber fein! Unbedingt vorher reservieren. Wir hatten Glück und mussten nur 10‘ an der Theke auf einen Tisch warten. Cordon-bleu mit 6 verschiedenen Gemüsesorten war super lecker!

Leider nicht weiter zu empfehlen. Der Koch muss wohl verliebt sein da das Essen sehr versalzen war. Gleichzeitig war das alles aber vermutlich auch nicht selbst gemacht und daher erklärt es auch warum das essen versalzen war. Also viel fertig Komponenten also sicher Soße und Spätzle und vermutlich auch das Schnitzel und der Kaiserschmarren. Der Service lässt sich zu wünschen übrig, ein wirklich netter Kellner, aber man hatte nicht das Gefühl das man betreut wird. Also nur einmal Getränke bestellt und dann über 1,5 h nicht mehr bis zum Zahlen. Und leider haben wir auch einen Liter Wasser bestellt und nur ein halben Liter bekommen was ansich nicht schlimm ist, leider wurde uns aber der ganze Liter berechnet, was auch nicht in Ordnung ist uns aber leider erst zu spät auf gefallen ist.

Ich war heute alleine im Wirthaus um ein paar Bier als Absacker am Sonntag als Tagesgast zu trinken. Als ich reinkam, empfing mich eine Frau nicht gerade freundlich und ich solle wenn ich nur ein Bier trinke an der Theke Platz nehmen (ich könnte ja den Tisch beschmutzen mit meiner Anwesenheit und halben Umsatz, da mindestens kein Pärchen am Tisch sitzen würde dachte ich mir). Dies, obwohl der Laden an einem Sonntag mit 5 weiteren Gästen besucht war. An jedem Tisch Reservierungkarten, so als wenn man sich wichtig vorkommt (ist ja so leider in einigen Läden, die einen damit vortäuschen möchten man wäre so gut besucht). Inhaber anscheinend Italiener. Na dann guten Appetit mit gut bürgerlicher regionaler Küche und Gastfreundschaft, die seines gleichen sucht.

Liebe Marry und Team, Wir waren über Silvester häufig Gast in eurem urigen Restaurant. Eine kleine, sehr feine Karte und täglich wechselnde Spezialitäten lassen keine Wünsche offen. Selten so gut gesegessen. Zur vorgerückter Stunde hatten wir Lust auf Asbach Cola und der Service ist losgesprintet um Asbach zu besorgen. Noch nie sowas erlebt. Absolute Empfehlung des Restaurants. Haben schon für kommendes Silvester reserviert. Liebe Grüße aus der Vulkaneifel!

Leckeres Essen und sehr freundliche und herzliche Bedienung

Keine Kartenzahlung! Dann eben nicht. Viel Spaß bei der nächsten Buchprüfung, da sollte das Finanzamt ganz genau hinsehen. Dass Kartenzahlung angeblich so viel an Gebühren kostet, ist Schmarrn. Die Karte besteht aus Klarsichthüllen, das ist so lieblos und hässlich. Die Bewertung hier bezieht sich auf alles und wenn ich nicht bezahlen kann, kann ich auch nicht essen. Dass es im Haus kein WLAN oder Internet gibt, das ist Blödsinn. Man kann anrufen, es gibt also ein Telefon, und in Deutschland sind alle telefonanschlüsse IP-basiert, das heißt wenn es Telefon gibt, gibt es auch Internet und mit einem passenden Router auch WiFi. Ist so, immer! Etwas anderes behauptet, erzählt Quatsch.

Schönes, kleines, urigen Wirtshaus, freundlicher Service, sehr gutes Essen, angemessener Preis

For what we received, I personally felt the price was far too high and not commensurate with the overall service. We had reserved a table for the evening at the Wirtshaus beim Kesslar. On the phone, we were explicitly told that there were two seating times: one at 5 p.m. and one at 7 p.m. We deliberately chose 7 p.m. so we could eat without feeling rushed. Upon arrival, we were shown to our table, sat down, and wanted to order. From the daily specials menu, I wanted a Maultaschen soup, but it was already sold out – that can happen, and it wasn't a big deal for us. The food itself was good; no complaints there. The real reason for this review came afterward: After about 45 minutes, while we were still sitting at our table and about to order dessert, the server didn't tell us she was taking our order, but instead informed us that the table was now occupied and that we should go to the bar. I've never experienced anything like this before. It wasn't just the issue itself, but especially the tone: unfriendly, disrespectful, and completely uncooperative. No polite inquiries, no explanation, no attempt to resolve the situation amicably. After this treatment, we decided to pay and leave. Good food isn't enough if, as a guest, you feel like just a placeholder being processed. Based on this experience, we won't be returning to this restaurant.

Wir hatten für 19:00 Uhr reserviert, waren pünktlich da und haben auch direkt einen Tisch bekommen. Getränke und Essen kamen schnell und geschmacklich war alles wirklich sehr lecker – bis hierhin hätte es ein richtig guter Abend werden können. Dann kam der Teil, der einfach bodenlos war: Um 19:45 Uhr, nachdem der Tisch abgeräumt war und die Dessertkarte noch vor uns lag, wurden wir ohne jede Nachfrage, ob wir noch etwas möchten, an die Theke verwiesen, weil der Tisch „ja reserviert“ sei. Keine Kommunikation, keine Alternative, kein „möchten Sie noch einen Nachtisch bestellen?“ – einfach weg vom Tisch. Wir hatten am Ende über 100 € Umsatz – und wir hätten noch vier Desserts bestellt. So behandelt man keine zahlenden Gäste. On Top: Keine Kartenzahlung möglich. Das sollte heutzutage Standard sein. Schade, denn Küche top – aber das Verhalten danach war ein absoluter Stimmungskiller. Wir kommen nicht wieder.

Unfortunately, we were very rudely turned away with the words, "No room," even though two tables were free. I suspect she didn't like that I had a small dog with me. We wanted to go out for dinner on a Friday in November at 8 p.m. Sadly, no chance! Disappointing.

Absolutely charming. A building dating back to the 17th century. The food and service definitely deserve 5 stars. Delicious, excellent value for money. Would gladly come again 👍🏻

A small, cozy restaurant. We hadn't made a reservation but arrived right on time, even before they opened. The Allgäu-style onion roast beef is highly recommended. The meat was of very good quality, and apart from Käsespätzle (cheese spaetzle), there were no other side dishes. The Kaiserschmarrn (shredded pancake) was very moist. They don't accept card payments. I would go again, preferably with a reservation.

The inn is charmingly rustic and cozy. Typical Allgäu style. The food was good, and the price was perfectly reasonable. The owners (I assume it was a couple) were very attentive and even joked with us. I would definitely eat there again.

We spontaneously stopped by one evening (Thursday, October 16, 7:45 p.m.). It's a small, quaint restaurant. We managed to snag a spot at another guest's table. The owner was super friendly. The food (pork schnitzel or chicken schnitzel, each with roasted potatoes and a salad) was ready very quickly and tasted delicious. A thoroughly enjoyable visit to Kesslar. Thank you very much, we'll be back.

We made a reservation by phone (Sunday at 7 p.m.) and got a cozy table for two. We were skeptical at first... but it was a great evening. If you want, you can socialize, and we had a relaxed chat with the manager and the waitress. The food was delicious. For the main course, we had Allgäu beef rump steak and cheese spaetzle. And for dessert, there was fantastic Kaiserschmarrn! It's a cozy little restaurant with very good food, and it was a delicious evening.

This summer, we made our first visit to Kesslar. We were treated to a lovely, rustic restaurant. Very friendly service, a great menu, and an outstanding culinary experience. THANK YOU! We'll be happy to come back.

It's a very beautiful, rural place to relax, and typically rustic. Anyone who absolutely wants to pay by card or needs other unnecessary electronics and overly comfortable chairs should go back to their big city. There are ATMs here where you can withdraw money. When I read some of the comments here, I can only shake my head. You're not in Berlin or NYC. You're in the south of Germany, and in the countryside, too. Personally, I think the food could use a bit less fat. However, I've realized that's a matter of taste. For me personally, the portions are also much too large. But that's also a matter of taste, as I'm a slim woman. Therefore, I think the price-performance ratio is completely justified. Since the restaurant is very small, you can't reserve tables for longer than one and a half to two hours, but you should always clarify this beforehand to avoid any bad blood and to ensure that other guests can also enjoy the experience. It's no different in popular, small restaurants in Munich (e.g., Steinheil). The waiters are very friendly and always do their best. In my opinion, they overwork themselves a bit, and I can't even imagine how much their legs and feet hurt in the evenings... All the best to you! I love your restaurant just the way it is 🤗💜

Table reservation was confirmed but tables were all occupied

I don't understand how this restaurant gets such overwhelmingly positive reviews. We had roast beef with onions and grilled pork loin. Both were served with the same overly salty instant gravy. The beef was tough and burnt around the edges. The onions were a mushy mess. The roast potatoes were soft and lukewarm. The pork steaks were dry. Only the beer and the rustic ambiance won us over, but they couldn't make up for the disappointment of the poor food!

It used to be better. Service was sometimes overwhelmed.

August 10, 2025. 5:12 p.m. I'm not greeted when I walk in, even though the lady standing at the bar looked at me. Card payments aren't accepted either. It's best to leave. And eat somewhere else, like we did. Schäffler in Missen is highly recommended.

The restaurant was really beautiful, the typical German half-timbered house... the daily menu outside was very appealing... my mouth was already watering and I was looking forward to the delicious dish.... it was a shame that the person at the door who disgustedly told us that the kitchen was closed!!!

Gorgeous little place with absolutely fantastic food. Definitely will be back. Reasonably priced, lovely accommodating staff and a great (although small) choice of local food and drink.

A very rustic ambiance and very attentive service. The food came quickly, and the meat was cooked to perfection. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, and everything was served hot. Since the restaurant is very small, I recommend making a table reservation.

The bench we sat on was rather uncomfortable, and the backrest reminded me more of a deck chair. The cheese spaetzle was delicious. The waitresses were very friendly.

We had a schnitzel with fried potatoes and one with spaetzle, unfortunately the schnitzels were very greasy and the spaetzle came from a bag, but for the price we would have liked fresh and good ingredients. Service is very nice and accommodating.

The service is extremely questionable! After 3 years, the temporary waiter neither knows that there is a website with a menu nor what dishes can currently be found there, so we got up and left after a very rude answer. The rabbit at the next table was also probably a tough pig, which doesn't necessarily speak for reliable cooking. We'll save ourselves another visit!

Extremely warm hosts. Every dish shows just as much love for cooking as the outstanding product quality and craftsmanship are convincing. Simply a real pearl of good Allgäu cuisine.

The Kesslar Oberstaufen is a really lovely inn that I can highly recommend! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, you immediately feel at home. The food was excellent – ​​regional specialties, freshly prepared and simply delicious. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive. A real insider tip for anyone looking for a cozy and authentic Bavarian inn. The only note: Since the Kesslar is very popular (and rightly so!), a reservation is definitely recommended in order to be sure to get a table. We'd love to come back!

We spontaneously ate here today and it was very, very tasty. The children rate the cheese spaetzle and the pancake soup as the best they have ever eaten (and they have eaten a lot of them! :-) ) My onion roast was medium rare as ordered and also excellent. We'll go straight back tomorrow.

We had delicious goulash soup, risotto and pike-perch here. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere and the service was fast and friendly.

The inn is very nicely decorated, and the service is excellent; they always check to make sure everything is okay. The food is delicious, and the soups are also very well seasoned and piping hot when they arrive at the table.

We got a table for 6 quite spontaneously. Although the place was very busy, we received a warm welcome, and after a short wait, our seat was free. The parmigiana is highly recommended as a starter! For my main course, I had the very large portion of cheese spaetzle, which I also highly recommend. The onion roast beef was tender, cooked to perfection, and the sauce was fantastic (because it was homemade, not from a packet). The service was very warm, attentive, and quick. The wait for the food was also short, considering the number of guests. A lovely stop at a quaint restaurant in the heart of Oberstaufen. We definitely would have stayed longer if the bus hadn't been running. Thank you 😊

Very nice staff and delicious food, the small salad was too expensive for me in terms of price-performance ratio, there should be more for the price apart from iceberg lettuce and 2 slices of tomatoes and a few cucumbers. Otherwise very well prepared and cooked to perfection. I had a roast with vegetables, but you had to pay extra for each additional side dish, which disappointed me given the overall price of the roast.

We were looking for a table for 4 people for dinner at short notice. Called the inn at Kesslar with the answer: Unfortunately, unfortunately nothing was available anymore. But!!! After a minute we received a call back with the information that guests had just left and there was a table available if we came straight away. Wow - I've never experienced anything like that before, we were very surprised. So we went very quickly to the restaurant. Everything was occupied except for our table. We received a very friendly welcome and were served very quickly by the competent landlady. The drinks were ordered quickly and brought to the table quickly. We chose our food from the not very large but varied menu or the daily recommendation and that was soon served too. We enjoyed it excellently, everything was fresh and carefully prepared. We were all very satisfied. During our stay we noticed that many visitors came and unfortunately some had to be turned away. We were all the more grateful that the landlady even called us back and offered us a table. We say thank you for so much hospitality and the delicious food. The Cordenbleu was delicious fresh from the pan and a delicious salad

The inn makes a good impression. Is very comfortable. The service at the table and bar was very nice. Not completely satisfied with the meal. The dishes with fresh fish or meat and pasta are quite well done. The breaded items, such as schnitzel, cordon bleu or even the fried potatoes are unfortunately from the frozen range. Very unfortunate!!! There is more!

It started at the entrance, where a stressed, unfriendly lady came to us and said without a “hello” that they didn’t have any free tables. Well, we were there at lunchtime and reserved a table for 2 adults & 1 toddler with a high chair. She first wanted to sit us on a bench in the corner where unfortunately there was no room for the high chair. When we told her that we also needed a place for our little one, she just said “the colleague forgot to write that down”. That can happen (but it's not our fault) but then she simply pulled away a chair at another table without communicating with any of the guests sitting there and said we should sit at the table with them in another place she has for not us. We then left the restaurant. Other guests who noticed the situation also left. We have never experienced anything like this, something so unfriendly to guests and especially unfriendly to children. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone who would like to have a nice evening with the family.

Super friendly, very helpful during reservation, it's a pity that during dinner the owner forgets her guests a bit and sits at the table with friends.

Nice atmosphere and friendly service. However, food is not recommended. Schnitzel and cordon bleu, frozen rather than the promised Allgäu pork schnitzel. Prices too expensive for that. Table water in a liter jug ​​seven euros, very expensive! Too bad!

However, I was very surprised by the fact that I wouldn't be able to pay with an EC card in 2024?! As a tourist, I like to be milked on vacation. But not in cash. 2 stars deducted for that! The “Schnitzel”. TK goods?! The reader of this comment should judge for themselves whether this dish is worth 20 euros.

Very tasty food, nice service, good value for money. Quaintly furnished. Popular music was playing. Not my thing, but it fits the ambience. Reserve if possible.

Unfortunately there is not enough for more stars. Went there for dinner with a group of 12 people and wanted to spend a cozy evening. Of course we had reservations. The salad was covered with a little oil and vinegar, if you're lucky you get a good mixture. Unfortunately, price/performance is not right here. The guest's used glasses are simply refilled unwashed with the statement "We don't have enough glasses right now". The hammer... after 2 hours we were politely asked to pay because the table had already been taken. Our glasses were still half full. An absolute no-go. For this reason alone I would never enter the restaurant again. ------------ Addendum to the owner's answer: 1.) The salad was fresh and would have been even better with an even coating. Sometimes you catch a lettuce leaf with vinegar, sometimes one with oil. This has also been mentioned in previous recessions. That has nothing to do with freshness either. 2.) Unfortunately, this doesn't change the matter. As an innkeeper, I don't give away a table twice without informing the guests first. As we found out afterwards, that's what they're known for. I don't even want to talk about the two individual guests behind us who had just finished eating. 10 people, we ate and drank with them for around €300 - €350. This has actually never happened to me before. 3.) I don't think I misunderstood anything about the situation and you confirm your intention behind it. Furthermore, I'm not making you or your restaurant look bad, I'm describing the facts. This was the last evening in Oberstaufen and we ate and drank in a restaurant every evening and no restaurant was like theirs. So sorry. I think telling a guest what they should have done differently to have a nice evening is the wrong approach. Continued success.

Low ceiling + short menu = excellent food and cozy atmosphere

Küche hat mit bayrischem Wirtshaus leider so gar nichts gemeinsames. Serviert wurde schlechte Convinience Küche. Bratkartoffeln blass und fettig. Zwiebeln oder gar Speck Fehlanzeige. Salat, einfachster Blattsalat lieblos daher kommend. Schnitzel trocken das es staubt und aus der Tiefkühltruhe. Es sollte ein Allgäuer Landschwein gewesen sein, was hier das Leben gelassen hat. Ich behaupte es war eher eine Warenunterschiebung. Für so einen Grusel dann noch 25,00€ aufzurufen ist eine Unverschämtheit. Solch Wirtshäuser braucht es nicht. Aber Oberstaufen ist wohl zu touristisch. Da ist es dem Wirt wohl egal wer des Weges kommt.

Regional, super tasty dishes, manageable dishes but homemade and of high quality. ! If Oberstaufen then here :) What I liked best was the loving staff!

The atmosphere is really great and the service was also good. However, there are much better restaurants in Oberstaufen for a better price. We didn't find the price-performance ratio good. The food was good but not for the price. The salad is a simple iceberg lettuce with a very simple oil and vinegar dressing. It's not served beautifully, somehow it reminded me of my 11 year old daughter 😂 All in all, our meal was 55 EUR with 2 main courses and 2 beers (I think cordon blue was 23 EUR, which is very steep since there wasn't even a salad).

We hadn't made a reservation and were still offered a place to eat something even though the table was reserved for later. Friendly service and fine food

I have reserved for 5 people. Mine is incorrectly recorded in the reservation book at the agreed time. But the restaurant is full and we are simply sent away. Really rude and dismissive. Don't ever go here again, what an idiotic situation. I hope they can sleep well after giving us such a bad evening, because on Friday evening I'd better find another restaurant for 5 people.

Ein typisches nettes kleines Bayrisches Wirtshaus mit schönem Ambiente. Das Mittagessen war sehr lecker und fein, ebenso die Bedienung zuvorkommend und freundlich. Wir kommen gerne wieder und danken für die Gastfreundschaft und das Gebotene herzlich.

Sehr leckeres Essen, liebes Personal und die Chefin ist eine Top Gastronomien. Weiter so liebe Carmen 👍☺️

Leider fragwürdig warum die Bewertung relativ gut sind. Die Portion war überschaubar, im Gegensatz zum Preis. Wir hatten Codon Bleu. Das Essen kam sehr sehr schnell, was nicht unbedingt ein Qualitätsmerkmal war. Der Service war langsam und zäh.

Kleines familiäres Restaurant. Unbedingt vorbestellen, da immer gut besucht.

Vom Essen und Ambiente Top. Preislich etwas gehoben. Service seitig aber ein no go wenn man schon vor der Getränke Bestellung gesagt bekommt, das man den Tisch in einer Stunde räumen muss, ohne das vorab bei der Reservierung gesagt bekommen zu haben.

Wir waren mit unserem Knobelclub dort. Wir waren auch mehrmals Essen. Alles war perfekt und sehr lecker. Insgesamt ist das ein tolles Team. Dieses Restaurant ist sehr zu empfehlen.

Selten ein Gastroobjekt mit so flexiblem Personal/Chefin erlebt. Freundlich, extra essen für uns eingekauft. Besten Schweinshaxe ever. Auch ala Card zu empfehlen. Sehr gutes, kaltes Augustiner vom Fass. Einfach mega.

Wer hier nicht glücklich wird , sollte sich selbst hinterfragen , das beste Bier in Oberstaufen und das beste Team hinter der Theke und der Küche !!! Danke das wir euch kennenlernen durften
